Episode description

The Elaine Massacre is one of the bloodiest race riots in U.S. history. Yet it is a tragedy about which few people know. In this teach-in Dr. Jemar Tisby explains what happened over those fateful days in Arkansas in the Fall of 1919 when Black sharecroppers were targeted by white mobs. He explores the aftermath and the critical legal cases in subsequent years. And he sits down with filmmaker Nolan Dean of Cherry Street Productions to talk about "The Valley of Dry Bones," a documentary film project they are co-producing.
