Story Transcript:

En: Bram stood at Schiphol, busier than ever in the winter.

En: The aroma of coffee floated in the air, mingling with the fresh winter wind that blew in through the automatic doors.

En: He had heard about the new coffee shop with the famous 'Vlaamse Truffel Cappuccino'.

En: His friends, Janneke and Pieter, were standing by the baggage carousel.

En: “Bram, don’t forget to watch where you’re going!” called out Janneke as she grabbed her suitcase.

Nl: Bram knikte en glimlachte.
En: Bram nodded and smiled.

En: But his thoughts were already wandering, in search of coffee.

En: He saw a queue of people and felt his heart beat faster.

En: 'That must be it,' he thought excitedly.

En: Without thinking twice, he joined the line.

En: He said hello to the person in front of him, but they looked puzzled.

En: “Are you also racing?” asked the man, staring at Bram.

En: Bram nodded halfheartedly, not hearing well because of the noise around him, his thoughts full of warm cappuccinos.

En: However, instead of heading for coffee, he suddenly found himself at a registration form.

En: Before he realized it, he had signed his name next to "participant."

En: Janneke and Pieter were meanwhile at the doors, looking for Bram.

En: Pieter pointed at the group of people in line.

En: “There he is, but what is he doing there?” They hurried to the crowd, just as Bram was led by an organizer to a large hall.

Nl: De ruimte was vol met koerende duiven.
En: The space was full of cooing pigeons.

En: “Bram, what are you doing?” asked Janneke, suppressing laughter.

Nl: Bram keek verward rond.

En: “I thought I was in line for coffee,” he said.

En: “Do you even know where you are now?” asked Pieter.

En: Bram looked up at the banner above his head: “Schiphol Duivenrace Kampioen 2023.” “Oh, what harm can it do,” he sighed and decided to participate, hoping for a miracle that would still bring him coffee.

Nl: De race begon.
En: The race began.

En: Bram had no idea what he was supposed to do, but the pigeon in his hands seemed to know.

En: With a fluttering noise, the bird shot away.

Nl: Tot ieders verbazing, won Bram de race.
En: To everyone’s surprise, Bram won the race.

Nl: De menigte applaudisseerde luid.
En: The crowd applauded loudly.

En: It turned out the reward, besides a trophy, was also a voucher for free coffee, sponsored by the new coffee shop as a promotion.

En: Bram stood with the 'Duivenrace Kampioen' trophy in his hands, laughing at the adventure.

En: He turned to Janneke and Pieter.

En: “This wasn’t what I expected, but it was definitely worth it.” They all laughed, and Bram learned that day that, although it was important to pay better attention, unexpected adventures had their charm too.

En: And yes, he finally got that delicious cappuccino.
