hey guys I'm Hayden I'm Jacob welcome back to Fitness tested today we're reviewing the new Nike Vero 18 so Jacob uh the shoe got a big update tell me about how Nike is kind of restructuring their whole trainer model yep so yeah Nike they're switching the veromos to now more their Max cushion line which is part of their new system with the silos they're going to have um one Silo for cushioned field one for responsive and one for more of the support and the Vero is going to be the the icon in the
cushion line Pegasus the icon responsive line and then the Nike Air structure will be the icon in the structure line or I guess have more of the support line and then each of these yeah each of the silos too they're going to have a a premium version and a plus version of all them so it's pretty exciting what they're they're doing with really cool there's a lot of trainers but um some exciting stuff they're coming out with so from the icon to the plus of the premium they're going to go up and
performance in price um so yeah they're starting to roll out this new kind of system so I'm excited to really see how it how it kind of rolls out so we've got some relics for you this is the vomero 5 this was released a long long time ago and I wear it now as a lifestyle shoe but I mean I wanted to show you guys really how far this model has come like it's crazy how different these two shoes are and how just I feel like this is representation of how far running shoe
the running shoe market has come in general just the last 20 years like the these two shoes are just insanely different so crazy I just want to pull that out for you guys so I wanted to start out so I have been to veromos about 2 three years now it's what I train in every single day this is the vomero 16 believe it or not I've been through 11 of these models so I know this shoe super well I think for its time it was an okay shoe it has a little bit of zoomx in the heel and it's
primarily um Air Zoom foam throughout the whole midsole I'd say it's a pretty cookie cuper upper I would say it's a good shoe it's not great but it got the job done for me so fast forward to the 17 I think this update was a good update yeah tell me what you think I mean yeah so before Nike before they had this new system with uh all these like three tiers of the cushion models I would say before this was kind of like the Pegasus premium that's what the was but now they have like a whole
different for it so this was the pest cream before but now it's like going into its own line as a Max cushion trainer obviously you can see a significant difference it's not as much catered towards like the responsive ride they're lean way more towards the max cushion comfort so it's a big update for sure yep so let's break down the Romero 18 um it has a 46 mm stack height in the heel 36 in the 4ot giving it a 10 m M drop that is 6 more mm more than the 17 it is 10.4
o in a men's 10 um actually 11.4 11.4 o yeah it's it's it's a it's a heavy one the big shoe um I will say so the midsole is composed of two layers the top layer being zoomx the bottom layer being react X so the zoomx is the foam is the People based foam that's found in shoes like the vaporfly the alpha fly and the react de is found in the Nike react and star to roll out more of their kind of Base models y so I mean I mean in general I really like the shoe what
do you think yeah I would say you know this shoe is one of those rare phenomenon uh that we call love it first run like I just knew I just knew I was going to love the shoe like right from the first few steps like it felt like I'd been running them for months it felt very natural like right off the get-go you know I just wanted to keep these shoes on like for the rest of the day after I run I just want to like wear them to bed you know sleep with them all night like they're they're that comfy
yeah honestly yeah the main thing that I got from them is the flow in them is super nice running in them is super enjoyable and fun I think the upper I think they actually did a really good job with it it's very secure and I didn't have any problems like sliding around anything the tongue is super thick and I think they added some some cushion in in the kind of heel collar area that I think is fine um I think it helped kind of just locked me in a bit more like Hayden said there it's going
to be just a lot more padding um there around the heel collar um plenty of padding around the tongue so just super comfortable around the foot um and that that does contribute to like a little more weight but I think with the added comfort you know it does help a bit got to trade off yeah yep I mean the midsole in the previous veromos they use the combination of the zoomx and their kushon foam and this they switch to um the zumex top layer and react X which
was uh seen in the Nike pigs say 41s and I think that was a really um solid update to the yeah with these guys yeah I think the the tread is pretty pretty pretty standard I think there's some areas where there maybe could be some durability issues if you're using them on like hard Trails or anything but I think in in general it's going to do just fine for you I think they took out some of the tread to help with the weight cuz it is so heavy so I think that's kind of a um a tradeback but I
think it's like it's like a lot more like rubber coverage in the 17s but it's not as like thick and bulky as like this at theot and the heel so still think it's going to it's going to hold up pretty well and obviously so we addressed how this Sho was so heavy it's 11.4 ooun that is unartistic heavy for a trainer but I think in general the whole running shoe market is Shifting towards a heavier bulky more chunky kind of kind of shoes in general because that's what
people like under their feet they like something comfy they like something soft so shoes are just getting heavier at year year after year so I don't think this is like something that's super crazy I think it's something maybe you get used to I didn't really notice it too much especially we're just using it for easy runs which I mean what do you think I think yeah people they trip out about the weight like a lot and like the important part is like how is the shoe
feeling um Weight Wise like when you're running at the intended Pace yeah which you know for these shoes you're going to be running like your regular average pace or maybe you know 15 20 seconds faster than that and like that pce for me between you know 7 to 730 Pace like they felt silky smooth like they didn't feel like they're weigh me down at all mhm um you know I did try to pick it up into like a 630 pace and you know that's where you kind of feel yeah they're a
little heavy they don't feel like it feels like you're he taking a toll on you for sure it definitely like I really I really enjoyed this shoe at like seven flat Pace I used it for a long run where I was kind of progressing down and it starts to kind of feel like you got chunks on your feet at like 630 620 but it's still giving me the responsiveness I need it's just oh yeah kind of a little bit more than sometimes you want so I mean the really good update with
this shoe too is like the nice um rocker geometry to it um i' say one of the most underrated part of a shoe is just how natural it feels through your stride um you don't want a shoe it's going to feel like it's kind of clapping down on the ground and you're just feeling you know it's it's just not vibing with your stride with this you're just really able to glide through each of your stride and like really smooth um so it felt really good on the run very natural very nice
flow when you're running I love that so overall I ended up getting about 45 miles on these um the first run of them was you know a 12 mile after a hard 5K effort um for a race day and usually the legs are feeling like really tired after uh you know that type of effort but you know legs felt really good especially in these shoes um just throughout the Run um and then use it for variety of other efforts throughout the week um you know just those easier days uh slightly Up
Tempo and you know for all the mileage they just felt um nice and smooth comfortable especially through the upper um so overall really great improvements to the shoot I would say too obviously it can be used for running but I think as a walking shoe I think it's a great option with the new rocker geometry I feel like it gives it a really nice flow so as a walker I think that'd be super enjoyable to walk in especially with the high stack height too it's going to be
super cushion and come for you yeah and especially with the walking you know like the lifestyle use like Nike they're popping off with the design like look at these shoes it's a good looking shoe it's got the zoomx right here on the front like this is a really nice looking shoe this is the woman's colorway we've got here yeah this is the men's color way like the Pure Platinum I think is what they're calling it yeah good looking shoes yeah so where would you
stack this shoe up um against like other brands like what are like some of his competitors you say so I'd say with the characteristics of it being super super balancy and fun to run in and just a little bit heavy I would say a good comparison is the Brooks Glycerin Max um I think that's a shoe that's going to be that's fun to run in it's a little bit heavy but like you're going to enjoy putting on your foot every day like you're excited to get out the door and
run if you have the shoe with you um yeah what do you think I think even like yeah some of like similar price points you know they're they're very competitive against now um you know A6 GEL Nimbus um just like the Brooks spit in 22 um Hoka Bondi yeah and those all like at 165 170 price range guys 150 they knocked them down from 160 to 150 yeah it's a great great price for them I think this is like this arguably like a way better shoe than all like not even arguably like it is a way better shoe
than all those in terms of the responsiveness the Comfort the ride um and it's you know $15 $20 cheaper which is it's insane it's really hard to beat that yeah this is Fitness tested today you learned all about the new Nike vomero 18 thanks for watching um come grab a pair yeah come in and try them on that's good a [Music]
