Hello and welcome to episode 84 of the nourishing. Amy podcast, welcome back, welcome back.
Now, this episode is actually going to be broken up into two because I realized as I was making a few little notes for this episode, like, whoa, I actually have so much to say on this and there's quite a few different things that you can do different things to implement actions, to take and mindset changes that you can have that. I'm going to take it.
Back to like the real basics of what I tell every single one of my clients when they first sign up with me is that you are really only going to get three main takeaways from any coaching session that you have any Workshop that you attend? Any seminar that you go to any self-development stuff that you do, at the end of the day, those top three things that you hear are going to be the three things that make the biggest difference
for you. So there's not really much point in me giving you like Ten different takeaways and things to go in action because that is just going to feel overwhelming and you're not going to do any of them. So I want this to feel simple for you because this is a huge topic. Now, it's a question that I get asked pretty regularly especially now that I've had Ali and there's quite a few mums that follow me on Instagram and they really resonate with that idea of like I just feel like I
don't know who I am anymore. Now, please don't get me wrong. This is not just for the mums, but I've just noticed that the increase in messages that I get is from mums recently. But this this question, this topic. This sense of who am I like, what do I like?
What do I not like, who am I as a person and that sense of sometimes like I feel a little bit lost or I feel like my Sparkle is a little dimmer than what I would like it to be or what it normally is. It's just such a huge topic and it's not one that I take lightly.
It's definitely something that every single one of my clients works on with me and it's that sense of finding your identity and figuring out like who you are, what you like, what you don't like what lights you up, what makes you feel like you? Now I've done a few kind of similar issue episodes to this, you guys would have heard me talking about episode 2, which is who are you? And I know I've told you before, that is my most popular podcast episode ever of all time.
So yes that does touch on I guess some of the things that I'm going to be talking about today but I'm going to go deeper because I think we need it. Like obviously, if it's a question that keeps coming to me, I think that we need it. And I know that, you know, for me, personally myself, it's something that I've had to do quite a bit of soul-searching around in the last six months or so. And it's been a little bit, like it's taken me aback a little bit. And I've been like, wow.
Like this is, this is a lot. This feels a little overwhelming, and I feel a little bit sad that I don't really know who I am anymore. I don't know what lights me up and this can kind of come about from really any change that's happening in life. Whether it is the state of the world at the moment, whether it is that you're going through some change in life, Maybe. Moving house, maybe you're changing relationships, maybe there's some things happening
with friendship groups. Maybe you're questioning some things in your career. There's just so many things that can change day to day in our lives. And it's just such a huge, huge topic. So, Before I really dive too deep into it, I know I normally do a recommendation for you guys. The recommendation that I've got for you. Let me go and actually get the spelling for you. Now, if you live on the Central Coast or in Sydney, we are in
lockdown again. And so, we are back to Jim's being closed Pilates studios, being closed needing to organize our own workouts. So, I've got to Two different recommendations. Sorry, I'm losing my train of thought to recommendations for you this week. Now, one is the amazing pilates pilates studio. That I work with Belle movement, they have an online to week challenge, and they've actually broken it up into two sections.
So let me just grab the different sections for you, so I can give you a little bit more information about it. So they've got a two-week hit challenge or a two-week. Total body challenge. So essentially there's an option that if you're really looking to, like, sweat it out, get moving really get into like the hard core Pilates, that's there for you. But then you've also got your mix of like smooth and stretchy, and you know, that that really
nice like standard. I guess like, Pilates option, that you would think about in your head there, too. So, they've got the two-week, hit challenge, the two-week, total body challenge. And basically, it gives you You you've got 14 days and there's ten classes for you to complete in that 14-day period. So I just thought like I know that's an initiative that they have come up with that Jenna has come up with to help just kind of help us to feel like we're
still on track. And I know she's had a really great response to it, so she's decided to actually keep it on, not just during lockdown, that is going to be an option there for you. So you can head over to the Belle movement website, and the options are there for you, but also another I'm that I have joined up to recently.
They've got a 30-day free plan and then the plan continues on after that if you would like to continue and I'm really enjoying the workouts because they're a bit different and it's it gives you your workout every day. Like I literally just log onto my canvas. Like, here's your day to work out. So it is the formula. I see I don't know if I'm saying that right the formulaic.
Anyway, it's the so formula with an icy at the end, so the formulaic.com and it's a mix of. So I did a bar workout this morning, I did a pilates workout yesterday. There's somebody waitstaff. There's really light dumbbell weighted exercises in there. I'm really enjoying it. I like the program and you guys, if you follow me on Instagram, would have seen that. I've really been focusing on moving my body for my Until health.
I do find that these days having Ali and trying to balance that, like, mum life and working and, you know, just like cleaning the house, cooking the meals, like, all of that kind of stuff. It just feels so overwhelming, some days. And I just sometimes feel like I'm going to explode, if I'm
going to be honest. So, I have just found that moving my body in some way, even if it is like a 20-minute online YouTube video, or Or the online Bell movement classes or the formulaic classes, then it just moves that energy around my body and helps me to feel really good. So they're my two recommendations for you this week. As usual, all of my recommendations, I leave in the show notes for you.
So if you have heard me talking about any of the other recommendations from any of the other weeks, they're all in the show notes for you. So just scroll down if you're listening on like Apple Podcasts or go into the Press details and it will give you the details of what I brief rundown of what I talked about in the episode but also the recommendations as well. So let me jump into essentially the question that I get help. I don't know who I am anymore. I get it. I get it.
I get it. So I think the first thing that I wanted to touch on because it's something that I think we forget we go through life and we forget that life is always changing. No, two days are the same. You are not the same person that you were yesterday. You're not the same person that you were last week last month. Last year, we as a collective. I always changing.
And if that is true for you, that is also true for everyone else in your life, every single person whether that is your friends, your family, your partner, your work colleagues, your children, we are ever evolving. And I think that when we feel like shit, like, I don't know who I am anymore, like, it's just like, Life has passed me by, and it's like, I blinked and all of a sudden, it's 12 months down the track and I've just been so caught up in life.
I've been so caught up in the busyness that I have Put myself second or third, or fourth, or 100th. And I've been putting all of these things before myself. And now I feel like I just don't know how to sometimes. Crawl my way back. It feels like, you know, I don't know who I am. I don't know what lights me up. That was a real light bulb moment for me. I had a coaching session and my coach Declan said to me, well, okay, what do you do to get back to you?
Like, who are you? What do you like? And I was so upset because I didn't know. And that is the first time in my whole life that I have felt like that and it was really jarring because like I said, it's something that I work on. So regularly with my clients and help to support them with and really nourish and encourage them to, you know, be the best version of themselves and find what it is and take these little steps.
But I had never felt like I needed to do that myself because I felt I felt empowered, I felt like I had that real strong sense of who I was and I think that it was really the first time in my life for me that I didn't have that sense of self-confidence but I couldn't really strongly give an answer for who I am, what I love the activities that I enjoy and what lights me up. And that was hard and guys, this is only, this is recent, I've only just been working through
this recently. So, you know, I don't want you to think like, oh yeah, but that was like seven years ago and you're doing amazingly now and you feel fantastic. No that's not true. And the reason that I talked about this as well, is because I want you to know that, like I said, life is always changing. We are ever evolving and we are going to have abs and flows. There is always going to be ups and downs in. Your life.
And it's the way that you can move through the downs and the self-awareness that you can create in those lower moments, that really shaped who you are in those ups and those flows and those higher moments as well. I guess like this is probably the perfect opportunity to talk to you. A just, for a brief moment about coaching because this is exactly why I still even as a coach do regular coaching sessions because I know that this work, it never stops.
Yes, there's moments and times and periods in life that I feel fantastic. I feel really good. I feel like I'm in that sense of flow. I feel like I have that good sense of who I am and Coaching only benefits me more in those moments because it means that I'm feeling on top of my game, I feel like I'm achieving. I feel grateful for my life. I can set those big goals and I can really take those big action steps towards achieving those
goals as well. It's essentially the exact opposite of what everything I was talking about last episode. So, if you haven't listened to the previous episode, go and have a listen, I talk all about when it's not time for big. Big goals in your life when when it's time to just kind of sit back and give yourself that space, that love that empathy that you give other people in your life, because it's not always going to be time in life to set.
These really big big goals and to be really taking these big action steps. And that's okay. So go and listen to the previous episode if you haven't already, But you know, when you do feel like the best version of yourself coaching is so fantastic because it helps to
keep you accountable. You're setting those goals, you're setting these action steps that you want to be taking and they can be big and exciting but gosh they can be so nerve-racking to because a lot of the time when you're setting those big action steps, it's pushing you out of your comfort zone and you need that accountability. That person to answer to. That's like, okay, so how did you go like Did you do those three things that you said you
were going to two weeks ago? Have you taken action on them yet? And if the answer is yes, amazing. Like, how do you feel, how did they go? What is your next steps? Are you still focusing on them? Is there anything else that you want to be achieving? And if the answer is, no. Okay. Well what's happening here? Are you getting in your own way? And that's the beauty of a coach in those real high moments and those like peaks of life that you like. Yes, I'm killing it.
I feel really great. That's the benefit of coaching there but in the low moments and you know, the moments that it's not time for the big goals and you do feel like you need to just kind of chill out a little bit, learn how to relax and what that looks like for you. That's also when coaching can help you move through things like limiting beliefs, and self-doubt and talking down to yourself, right?
So coaching honestly I cannot speak any more highly of it because I know I say it all the time but it Has absolutely changed my life and I know that it can change your life too. So if you're listening to this and you're kind of like, oh gosh, I hear Amy talking about this or I see people talking about having a coach or doing self development courses online and I really feel like I'm interested in it.
I'm nervous about it but I'm interested I feel that pull I really I'm questioning it. I feel like I want to know more. This is your sign to get in contact with me because I only have three spaces available. Now, I've had two new clients sign up in the last few days. And I wish that I could just Say that my books were fully open but guy's mom's, you will fill
me with this. I can't get all the into Child Care at the moment and the waiting list is two years long, so he's on that waiting list, trust me, but at the moment I can only do what I can do. I can only have the availability for when I can get Ali looked after by friends and family at the moment and as much as yeah, that sucks.
It means that it gives me the opportunity to only work with People that really want this that really feel like coaching it that it's time that coaching is the right opportunity and choice for you right now. So if you're listening to this and you're like shit, I don't want to let this opportunity pass. Send me a message. Come over to my Instagram, come over to my Facebook. Come over into the podcast, community group on Facebook groups, getting contact. See what it's about.
I can tell you a little bit more. And let's chat. Anyway, that's all that. I'm going to say about coaching for now at the moment, but let's let's get clear on some different things that you can start to do. To build up that sense of self-confidence and to really start to feel like, you know who you are. So, my first question that I have for you is, do you feel like you are holding on to goals or things that you think that you want that are no longer
relevant? Like I said earlier life is always changing you as a person as a human being you are always changing and evolving, have you updated your goals and the things that you want to achieve? When was the last time that you actually sat down and thought about what it is that you want to achieve and what direction you want to be heading to? I'll use a really simple analogy here and I think I've probably mentioned this before on the podcast a million times.
But if you want to go to Queensland. So you want to drive from Sydney to Queensland and you put in Queensland into your GPS. Where is that going to take? You probably right smack. Bang to the middle of Queensland. Maybe it might take you to let's say, for example, the Gold Coast. What if you don't want to go to the Gold Coast? What if you want to be going to Brisbane? Well, your GPS doesn't know that you haven't been accurate
enough. You haven't been specific enough that your GPS is taking you to the Gold Coast and you're still, I don't know an hour, two hours, maybe away, from where you actually want to be and where you need to be. The same thing happens with your life. If you haven't been specific enough about where you want to be heading, and what you want to be doing, and how you want to be
feeling. I'm going to be honest here, you're just flailing around every day, whether you noticed it or not, you're just kind of putting one foot in front of the other. You've got your normal day-to-day everyday habits and that's fine. But there's no intention to your days, there's no intention to your weeks. There's no sense of accomplishment achievement or direction and you need those three things to feel like the best version of you. They might be some hard-hitting truths.
Here are some things that you listen to in these episodes that you kind of feel like, ah, like that's a bit much or jeez. This is a bit rough. But guys, this is what coaching is about and I say to all of my clients, yes we are going to create a friendship, most likely through being through our coach and client relationship. Because how can we not write? Like we talked about if that client is willing In to go deep.
We talked about some of your life's deepest darkest, Secrets, questions, feelings, and how can you not create a beautiful deep relationship with that person but at the same time, yes, I can be your friend but I am not. That's not what you are employing me to do because otherwise you could go and talk to your hairdresser about this stuff you could go.
Go and talk to your best friend's about this stuff and they might give you like surface-level advice or they might tell you what they might do in that situation. But that's not what my job is. My job is to go deep. My job is to get you out of your shell to push you to those limits. So that you feel good. My job is to push you past the moments that you can't.
And that's why sometimes in some episodes whether it's this one or previous episodes, you might have felt a little bit uncomfortable, answering some of the questions that is a good sign. That there's an area there for you to work on when you feel uncomfortable and it's like, oh I don't know how to answer that or I don't want to answer that or that doesn't feel that doesn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling of like yeah that feels really good.
Like there's a little bit of Business around these answer. All these question here. That is a flag. That there's an area for you to be working on there and to dive deeper and trust me on the other side of that nervousness and that uncomfortable feeling is such a beautiful opportunity. Such a beautiful moment for you to have when you realize that you've been able to work through something, that maybe has been holding you back for a few days, maybe a few weeks, maybe a few
months, maybe a few years. Are you holding yourself back? Are you holding on to goals or things that you think that you want that are no longer relevant? So when was the last time that you checked in with yourself? So I'm going to talk about goals. Now, this is going to be the main part of this first section of this episode. And I'm going to talk about a few other things in the next episode as well.
So, like I said, I'm going to break this up into two, but let's just talk about goals today because that is enough in itself. This is a big section here. So there's two main components. When I look at setting goals, the first section that I'm looking at here is like My goals actually whether they're big goals or whether they're small goals like, these could just be things that you want to be achieving with your goals every single day.
Like drinking 2 liters of water or moving your body or having a piece of fruit every day, I don't know, like whenever I talk about goals, I'd give quite General examples because your answers are so individual to you and I don't want to paint a picture in your head of what you feel like your goals big or small should be. Because it's whatever is coming up for you. That is the perfect girl for you. Whatever comes to mind for you.
Now, instead of being generalized, like I was kind of mentioning before, let's get more specific. So what I actually want you to do, I want you to grab a pen and paper or grab the note section in your phone. Or if you don't like writing things down, and maybe you just want to do a voice memo. I want you to break your goals into topics. so, the topics that I have for you is Fitness, Health. Nutrition. Work or career self care. Personal life and growth. Social life. And relationship.
Now I'm going to put all of those topics in the show notes because I know there's quite a few. So if you feel like oh shit I didn't get a chance to write all of them down, go and check the show notes, they'll be there for you. I will run through them really quickly again for you. So the topics we have is Fitness what a my fitness goals. What would Fitness look like to me? If I was achieving my goals and that might be. Moving your body, three times a
week. And when I say moving your body, that might even just be getting out and going for a walk doing a YouTube video at home, jumping on and signing up to the Bell movement, classes, like whatever it looks like for you amazing, no judgment, whatever your fitness goals are here is fantastic. Next topic, health. What does Health look like to me, what specifically do I want to be achieving with my health? Now that can be sleep, maybe Health encompasses Fitness for you.
What does the healthiest version of you look like? Next topic. Nutrition. What am I nutrition goals? Is there something that you want to be? Adding in? Maybe there's something that you want to be taking out. Maybe you notice there's been some habits that have been creeping in lately that you would like to change. What does your nutrition goals look like to you? Your next topic is work. Or Korea. What are your career goals? What is the direction you want
to be heading to? Do you notice that again, there's been some habits that have been creeping in that you would like to change. Have you been over prioritizing? Things like overtime or working extra and you're feeling burnt out, do you notice that maybe you could be pushing yourself a little bit harder? Is there something specific you would like to achieve in your career?
Your next topic is self-care. Now in the next episode I'm going to be talking about the three different types of self-care and what they look like to you. I'm going to be looking at. The different ways that you can start to bring that empathy and self-love that I was talking about last episode. I'm going to be talking about the different ways that you can start to bring that into your life. So that's in the next episode.
This episode like I said is more about the goal setting and steps to achieving that But I guess just thinking about well what would self-care look like to me at the moment? Now, your next topic is personal life and growth or maybe for you that feels like or looks like self development. So with your personal life with your growth, what does growth or self-development look like for you over the coming weeks and months? What are your goals there?
Your next topic is social life. What does your friendship group or Friendship Circle? Look and feel like at the moment to you, is there anything that you would like to be doing more of doing? Less of? Is there certain people that you would like to be spending more time with less time with What are your goals or how specifically can you evolve your Friendship Circle and your social life to fit you and to fit where you're at right now in
your life? And the last topic that I have for you is relationship now this doesn't mean that you need to be in a romantic relationship right now. It could be that you would like to change the relationship that you're in. It could be that there's aspects of your relationship. You would like to focus on that. You would like to change that. You would like to really really bring that Focus to and maybe that means that there's conversation topics that you would like to have with your
partner. Maybe if you don't have a partner at the moment, it is bringing back to that personal life and growth and self development. Like how can you focus on your relationship? Cheap with yourself. If you would like to be in a relationship and you're not right now, what are you doing to look for that special person in your life? What steps are you taking? Because if you're still staying home every day and not doing anything to push yourself out of
your comfort zone. How are you going to meet that special person? Maybe it looks like going and doing different. I don't know, yoga or pilates, class somewhere that you haven't before, maybe it looks. Like going and doing a painting class. I don't know. There's like you guys. I'm so out of the game, I don't know, I it's really not
something. I've put a lot of thought or energy into, maybe it looks like going and grabbing a coffee at your local cafe, and going and saying, hi, and putting yourself out there and saying hello to somebody that you have seen recently that you would like to chat to, you know, so many different things that your goals could be here. And like I said, big or small, I do.
Don't want these to be like, obviously this this, I feel like this is stating the obvious, but I'm going to say it anyway, it's literally impossible for you to focus on every single one of these aspects of your life at one time. And it is literally impossible for you to set big goals in all of those fields or all of those topics at one time.
But just think about, like I said, when was the last time that you checked in with yourself because you could be Still trying to achieve or take action on goals or things that you thought you wanted to achieve from a year or two ago that just don't feel relevant right now. It just doesn't feel good for you. so, it's all about just redefining What do these things actually look and feel like for me now, how do I want to feel in these areas of life and what are
some small things? that I can be doing every day or once a week, or once a fortnight To really bring a focus to these things because these are the main areas of your life that are going to make a huge difference. Now, with my clients, what we actually do in your first session which is a strategy session is you go through all of these areas of life and we do a
deep dive in these areas. And then what we actually do is we pick three of those areas that you would like to focus on and we really deep dive into those three areas. And I'm not going to go into that in this podcast episode. But if that feels good for you and you feel like, okay, well, three of these areas feels good for me to focus on, I can do that, that doesn't feel like biting off more than I can chew.
What would three of those areas be that you would really like to bring that focus into and really like to be putting your attention and intention into in the next few days. Few weeks, few months. Now, redefining or reflecting and pivoting on your goals is actually a really good thing. So if you find that you notice that, when you're thinking about maybe your nutrition or your self development sections, that you had a goal, and you set that for yourself and that doesn't
feel good for you anymore. That's amazing. That is such a good thing to notice why you might be asking Because that is creating another layer. Of self-awareness for yourself and you know that there's something that doesn't feel good for you. So just as important as it is to pinpoint and create Direction around where you want to be and the things you want to be doing, if you know that you've set yourself a goal or you've set yourself an action step that you want to be.
Let's say, for example, going to the gym, four times a week, and, you know, that you've tried doing that and that didn't feel good for you. Well, you can cross that off your list in that one more thing that you Know about yourself. Hey, I don't like going to the gym four times a week, when you know what you don't like. It means that it gives you more Direction. Into pushing that or moving that into okay, well if that didn't feel good for me, what would
feel good for me? How can I change that? So that it does feel like something I would like to achieve Now, the last thing that I'm going to get you to do in this episode, we've been talking for half an hour so I'm not going to keep you for too much longer. but the last thing that I'm going to get you to do, Is to just write a list of everything that you can think right now just really, really quickly. This doesn't need to be a huge
journaling, exercise. I want you to do bullet points of every single thing, you can think right now that you have done in the last two weeks. That you enjoy. It could be absolutely anything. It could be waking up and making your bed. Maybe that's something that helps you to feel really refreshed. It could be waking up. Making your bed, putting your essential oil diffuser on and turning on your favorite playlist. It could be having a shower, exfoliating your body, and washing your hair.
It could be putting your favorite candle on having a warm cup of tea. Reading your favorite book watching your favorite reality TV show and just switching off, maybe it's going for a run. Maybe it's doing a pilates class, or a boxing class, or doing a really sweaty hit session at home. Maybe it's sitting down and listening to a podcast episode and writing out a whole heap of self-development journaling questions and spending some time
on yourself. Maybe it's purchasing a self development book and really working through that. There's so many different things that can come up for you and like I said, I don't want to taint you into giving you ideas for things that you feel like you should be wanting to achieve. I just want you to think about, if I look back at the last two weeks, What are the things that I've done? That have helped me to feel
really good? And even if there's only one or two things that come to mind, that's okay, that's amazing. It's one or two things that, you know, you would like to focus on. Now, I feel like I'm going to leave it there. I feel like that's good for today. That's enough.
It's actually quite a lot when you think about it to really, even just take in that concept that we are always changing your relationships, every single relationship in your life as well as your relationship with yourself is ever evolving and always changing every single day. That is a big concept. It's a lot to think about you're not the same person that you were last month. You're not the same person that you were last year and so how can you still have the same goals?
And really, you are doing yourself a disservice to not reflect on these things more regularly. Whether that means that you sit down once every three or six months, or once a year and just reflect on these things and think about, okay, Where am I actually going here? What do I actually want to be doing? And like I said, if this feels like something that is hard for you or that you want or need that accountability.
Maybe it's time for you to reach out and start some coaching sessions because accountability is what I can offer you. My friend, I can keep you accountable. That's what I am here for.
