How to stop being insecure?
Intro:
Do you always feel you have low self-confidence? Do you feel like you don’t deserve your achievements even though you have worked hard to get them? Are you always feeling miserable because of the way you look? Do you feel intimidated when socializing in a gathering? (The 3 most common causes of insecurity and how to beat them)
Well, you might be feeling insecure. It’s okay to feel insecure. In fact, most of us feel insecure on a daily basis. You might ask yourselves, why am I feeling insecure? Or how do I stop feeling insecure? But before we address those questions, we must understand what insecurity actually means and where does it come from.
According to The American Psychological Association, insecurity is the general feeling that arises when a person is uncertain/anxious about their abilities or skills. (LPC and MD Insecurity: Definition, causes, & 7 Ways to Cope)
It can also be described as the conscious feeling people develop after having instances where they are uncertain, where lack confidence and have self-doubt. (Or and Name Always remember why inc..)
This shatters their confidence to tackle similar situations in the future, and as you can imagine it has a lot of negative effects. It’s like they get stuck in a vortex of negative feelings.
Negative Effects:
So let’s move on and talk about some of the negative effects insecurities can have on you.
Your insecurities can really mess up your mental health, making it difficult for you to socialize with others. Insecure people find it difficult to socialize and build relationships. You will always feel that everyone present around you is better than you and that you don’t belong there (you don’t deserve to be there). This feeling of being intimidated is fueled by low self-esteem. When you feel intimidated, you are less likely to engage in a conversation with someone (you feel you’re not worthy of being around). This cycle makes it difficult for you to get out of your shell and make new relationships.
Another sign of people struggling with insecurities is that they struggle with making decisions, all the way from what flavor of pizza they want to get, to important life decisions. They don’t trust their judgements. Due to this they take a lot of time to decide what they want.
Another sign is when people are very critical of themselves, that is a sign that they are surrounded by people who expect a lot from them. Lack of certainty and self-doubt can be very common when we are trying to achieve everything perfectly, allowing the feeling of insecurity to creep in.
Now before we move on to discussing how to overcome our insecurities, it is important to educate us on the roots of insecurities.
It’s going exciting cause this will open up the door for you to realize, uh! something has to be worked on here.

Causes:
Insecurities mostly take birth from traumatic past life experiences and through inheritance of biological traits. From being emotionally or physically abused in your childhood to the loss of a loved one, insecurities start to creep in when a person has been scarred by a traumatic past life experience. For instance, you might know a person who is insecure of their body figure because they were bullied in their childhood because of being obese. Such past experiences tend to leave an imprint on a person of what to avoid or be conscious of. (Kristenson Why am I so insecure? 7 common causes of insecurity)
“Perfectionism is self-abuse of the highest order.”, Anne Wilson, an American author, got this absolutely right. Some of us strive for perfection in every aspect of our life. Be it our dream job, car or house, we want everything to be perfect and tailored to our liking. Unfortunately, some of us often forget that life doesn’t always pan out the way we want. This unrealistic want of perfectionism drives one of the most prevalent forms of insecurity there is. When people fail to complete a task with a certain level of unattainable perfection, they start to feel depressed and anxious. insecure and unworthy. This feeling can develop into long term depression and anxiety. (The 3 most common causes of insecurity and how to beat them)
Another type of insecurity which is common amongst people stems from past failures or rejections. We all know that experiences such as failure and rejection can seriously affect our confidence. Failure and rejection can trap us in a vicious cycle in which our self-confidence shatters and we walk into every challenge already thinking we’ll fail. This insecurity really messes up the mentality of a person and makes them think they can’t achieve anything. (The 3 most common causes of insecurity and how to beat them)
Overcoming Insecurities:
So having discussed how insecurities take origin, let’s now talk about the possible remedies to overcome insecurities.
Well, the first step to deal with a problem is to recognize there is one! To start off, I would recommend you guys to just take some time out and reflect on how your insecurities affect your daily life. How it hinders your potential. In what situations do you become uncomfortable/anxious? What are the sources of your insecurities?
It will help you to focus on what to work on! (LPC and MD Insecurity: Definition, causes, & 7 Ways to Cope)
Regardless of the severity of insecurity you experience, you should definitely not bottle your feelings up but instead talk about them with someone you trust! If you feel like that the situation is really bad and has gotten out of hand, I would recommend you seek professional help immediately. (LPC and MD Insecurity: Definition, causes, & 7 Ways to Cope)
Afterall, it is a matter of your mental health!
In the end, it is important to realize that although you should try your best to work on yourself and overcome your insecurities, you cannot change everything. You should learn to accept your imperfections and celebrate them! We should also celebrate and accept insecurities in a positive way. Like if a person is financially insecure, he/she will work hard to get a steady source of income and become wealthy. So, we can use insecurities to fuel our motivation to work hard and achieve our dreams. (LPC and MD Insecurity: Definition, causes, & 7 Ways to Cope)
