Fantasy football frenzy. M. That is fantastic. You're right, You're right. I'm not you know, I don't have kids and stuff yet. I'm not married yet. But I'm surprised he's got close on him. That's true. But do you think I'll wear anything more than a shirt? Now? I'm picturing this and I can't. I can't focus on what I need to talk about next. All right, So relax, fancy football frenzy. We're gonna break down. Obviously we did. I can't see chief say we're almost done with team previews. Imagine took
us two months, but almost done. I want to do the Chargers today, who also went twelve and four like the Chiefs last year, but they did not have the tie break, so they were a wild card team. Um. Charges once again, pretty stacked team, although some may say
they're unlucky. Uh. They lose Derwin James uh this year for the whole season, which is a huge loss for them defensively their safety, um, you know, and then you have Melvin Gordon's hold out of course, which you know just continues to be an issue for everyone fantasy owners alike. So yesterday we had the preseason games and I know you said. I didn't mean it's born like I'm not
gonna lie. I only watched the Giant game, or parts of it, and I saw Paul Paul Perkins cut someone up, get it like a ten yard run, and I was like, all right, I'm good. I don't I really don't watch Paul Perkins. I watched a whole season. And we watched the whole season of Paul Perkins as are starting running back, which was brutal. That that what must have been the worst rushing season for the Giants I've ever seen in my thirty two years of his of existence, which I
just turned thirty two, by the way. So um, you know I'm getting all I'm getting up there now, you guys. Um. But I guess there was a couple of things that stood out yesterday. I'll mention a couple. One thing I think it stood I was Donchrill Hi Hilliard, um, who looks to be the past catching back possibly for the Cleveland Browns. When when the season starts, hat twelve rushes sixty five yards, two catches thirteen yards in a t D.
So we had a nice little game. Wait wait, wait, wait, let's let's let's make sure we're clear on this with the people watching and listening to the show. Yes, you're saying he's gonna be the past catching back. Possibly, let's not forget, and let's make sure we tell everybody in
case they missed it. This team also wants to get Chubb much more involved in the passing game, So to call him the receiving back is taking some of that off a Chub And right now, that's what's putting the glimmer on Chub is the fact that he has a chance to catch more passes. Now that I think of that, Now, here's the thing. They say this about Nick Chubb. They
say this about Chris Carson. But my, when I watched the games right and I see these players play like I just to me, Chubb and Carson, these guys aren't there average to below average pass catchers. They're not great pass catchers. So I feel like they will get their targets. But are they gonna get fifty receptions sixty receptions? I don't think so. Would you say they're gonna get fifty
sixty receptions? Those two guys, no together, I mean no individuals together, No individually each Well no, maybe not, but I could definitely see Chubb coming out of this with thirty catches. Okay, so if you if he's got thirty five forty catches, I mean that just that really limits what the Hilliard can do. Yeah, I mean that's true.
I just think that, you know, obviously, listen, every NFL team uses a second running back unless like like the Giants will probably use Barkley eight eighty five percent at the time, But most teams are gonna use they're running their lead runner fifty sixty maybe sixty at the time, and there's other running backs they get involved. So I'm just saying, Dontral hill You is gonna get involved because you want to keep your your running backs fresh. You don't want to overuse them and then at the end
of the season they burnt out. So Hilliar's gonna get his fair share. And I think it's gonna mostly come in the passing game on third downs. It's logical, right, um, But Chubb will also get his fair share of targets as well. Just because someone's a third down passket pass catching back doesn't mean that the lead runner isn't gonna get targets either, you know, I mean, And it also doesn't mean that they're down past. A lot of people
have it in their head. A lot of people here when they hear, you know, pass catching back or third down back, you know they've taken into their mindset that that that's gonna be his role all the time, right and that you know, like you said, he's gonna have a little bit of a role, but you know they're gonna use Chubb or and often to start the season. And I just don't see Hill you're having any value
at all until at least a few games in. I mean, Bill maybe catch a few passes, but you're probably looking at four to six touches of max a week right now, right right, minimal touches. I'm not saying we should draft this guy in deeper leagues. Maybe at the very end you want to take a shot. But also you don't forget cream Hunt comes back, uh, you know, week ten or something like that, So that could steal a lot of pass catchy work from top. But we'll come right back.

of dollars. I'm giving you a fight like this guy seriously, week days to the four pm Eastern on the Fantasy Sports Network and on your popular podcast Providers. All right, baby, that dad? All right? I'm learning dead. Turning out to Dore. You made you welcome back fancy Football Frenzy on a Friday, And I'm glad, Jim you brought up the the past catching back, not the dad biding. I just killed that dad. By the way nine out of ten. Ryan now was like seven out of ten. All right, I'll take it.
You guys. Keep this up. I am literally going to come to that studio and ncap both of you. I want that to happen. I want to see you come to the studio. I would love to see you in. Keep doing that, you might just get your wish. All right, Well, he doesn't like the dam day Apparently, I'm not a millennial. I'm past that thirty two years old. Then stop acting
like I like messing with the millennials. Um So, I'm glad you brought up the past catching thing because I did a draft recently which was a good friend of mine and a young kid who's looking to become, you know, an analyst in fantasy sports and sports in general. He has a website called Sony plus dot com that's s S Sony plus dot com, and I did a podcast
with him last night. We did a draft. I was in his home league, and it seemed like all the kids in his league, we're drafting everybody else except these valuable pass catching running backs. It's a PPR league by the Bay one point PPR. They were all falling down the draft board. There was a ton of running back
value in that draft. I I don't think a lot of people realize the concept that, like, the pass catching backs are very valuable, just because they're the backup doesn't mean that the lead runner is always the better running back. Duke Johnson went in the seventh round of this draft. End of the seventh round. That's a steel right now. I mean, the guys the starting running back right now, and he's a great pass catcher. Um you had obviously Terri Cohen, guys like James White and uh Austin Ekeler.
Seventh round, eighth round. This is this is where they were going in this draft where you're seeing a lot of the expert or analyst drafts, they go a little higher than that fifth, sixth. So you know, I don't think a lot of people realize the concept that pass catching backs dird down backs, or sometimes they just split carries. Okay, you don't know exactly what the touches are gonna be.
The volume obviously volume is king, but you know, just because the guy's a lead runner doesn't mean he's going to be an RB two or uh he's gonna be the better running back on the team. That he's splitting carries with it just means that he's the starting running back. He's the one that's gonna get the carries earlier on the other guy could have just as many touches in the game. So I want people to realize that and not just say, oh, I'm taking this guy because he's
the starting running back. You know, do your research and know exactly what's going on, uh with you know, running back situations, because sometimes it could get foggy. Uh and that's how value falls down the board. A lot of running backs went super late and it was unnecessary, uh, you know, because the Chicago Bears again draft in the eighth round. The Bears defense. That's a big no no,
you know. Uh well, yeah, like what you're saying. Dontrell Hilly yesterday catches thirty touchdown to Marius Thomas seven catches eighty seven yards, two touchdowns yesterday. Are we buying this, George Kurtz, Are you buying to Marius Thomas? Is he someone you might now take a look at in drafts? Am I buying to Marius Thomas because he had a big game in Week four of the preseason against a bunch of nobody, Yes, Uh, listen, you want to take
him last round? You know, dartboard, throw mud against the wall. See if it sticks. I've gotten I never have a problem with that. I don't care that drafted Chris Venture in the last round. Give a shot. Maybe Chris can have a big year. You never know, lighted up through. I mean, well, I mean the same Chris Venture that's now in Sports Illustrated today, am I Yeah, very good. You had your right up in there from our our auction who did the write up? Because I forgot to
do the right up I was on. I apologize. We were gonna talk about that. Yeah, well, well we'll talk about it. But George, go ahead. Finished what you're saying, Uh to Thomas, Right, Okay, So that's I don't have a problem with anybody drafting anyway. The last I never do nearly anybody you want to take. Uh, there was the first guy you're gonna move on from anyway, when you know, you know, the hot guy, or when you're
the bye weeks come you need that filler. Oh, I don't want to play with twelve, you know, eight guys that week instead of nine, So I gotta release this guy. You know, the first guy you move on from So I don't have an issue with it. Do I think there could be something there? Hey, you never know. But now that Josh Gordon's back, I mean, even if everything goes right, Edelman is going to get his assuming that injury from last night, it's not all that bad. James White,
who we just talked about's gonna get his. Uh, Gordon's gonna get his. The deep shots there, Thomas caught the ball, but he looked like look like De's Bryant at the end. There no separation. He's gonna catch the book. He's a bigger body. Is that speed's gone? So you're not gonna be a few few and four between the big plays here. So I'm not overly excited to get him. No, But do I think there could be a role for him? Sure?
But then again he might be cut today also, Yeah, I mean after that performance, I'd be surprised if he gets cut. But like, who is the third wide receiver on this team, Josh Gordon, Julian Edelman? Is it the Marius Thomas or healthy? And that's that's what it looked like to me. It looked like he wasn't fully a dent. Sure that he was ready to go. Uh, there were a couple of times he pulled up afterwards and you can almost see him like want to reach for the leg,
like it wasn't quite right. And I think that's where he's at right now. I'm just not sure he's a hundred percent certain that it's gonna hold up if he starts playing at full speed. So yeah, look, it's a good thing. I don't think they cut him because of their needs at wide receiver. Um, if if he can hold out a little bit longer, and then you know, I'm sure he'll get a slow start to the season, but look, if he comes on, you know, even from like week three on, you're still going to get a
serviceable wide receiver. And like George says, he's cost you nothing. Now, you can grab him in the last round or grab him in the second the last round, because you're gonna grab day Ogawally with your last round pick. Uh. So yeah, those two picks at the end of the draft, why not, they're all dart throws. Anyway, this is a guy that
has a history, he knows the game. Uh, if he gets healthy in this New England offense, heck, he could be the number two if Josh Gordon decides to walk off the field and we three, we just don't know at this point, but is he worth a dart throw? Absolutely? Yeah, yeah, So they and I like that you mentioned dare ogonowly. I pronounced that perfectly nice. Alright, So these two guys are becoming, uh you know, new additions to the end
of the draft board. Uh, you know, flyers last round picks that you could potentially get some you know, production out of. So Marius Thomas, for those of you who are young and don't know, this guy, used to be one of the best war season in the league, Like this guy on Denver, Like I remember at times he was like I'm choosing between Leo Jones into Marries Thomas in my draft at one point. Like he was that good in his prime, but he fell off pretty quickly
and now he's just pretty much an afterthought. But yesterday he showed flashes of still having what it takes to maybe give you some production new England offense that's looking better than it did before, you know, before the preseason started. Um, so we'll see what happens with that. Other things that stood out to me that might have potential in fantasy leagues or Ogoomba Wally Uh eight rushes nine yards, not very good on the ground, but you get two catches
for seventeen yards. Um. It looks like he might be the past catching back here in Tampa Bay. There's a chance that he who win that role, and Ronald Jones and Payton Barber will be splitting carries as the lead runner, you know, between the tackles runner. I just I don't know. We'll see what happens with that. Another dark throw might be worth the shot in PPR leagues past catching back
right there. Uh, Jordan's scarlett the handcuffed too. Christian McCaffrey looks like right now not a lot of people talk about and burn deeper leagues. It's a guy you can draft in the late rounds. Eleven carries twenty two yards, not great in the ground, but did have three catches twenty yards in a touchdown. Paris Campbell for the Colts had three catches forty two yards. Haskins ten for seventeen hundred four yards in a touchdown. And a guy that
I really like, but nobody drafts. And he's really probably not gonna get a lot of burn when it comes to the Baltimore Ravens running backs is kenn Of Dixon thirteen carries sixty six yards. I I love this guy when he was coming in because he was great past catcher, talented kid. Just go. He's just been getting hurt every single season that he's played and at this point you can't rely on him. So uh, you know, he's an afterthought. But somebody maybe to keep on the watch list. Will
see what happens in Baltimore. But right now it's mark Ingram and Justice Hill looking to lead that running back crew. Any last thoughts about preseason before we had to break guys, George, it's over, Thank god, that's Jim. Hey, I'm gonna say one thing. Look, I'll be honest, Daniel Jones looks so much better to me than I expected. Um, he just does. He throws with such nice accuracy, He throws with touch. He you know, is not hesitant when he gets him once he lets the ball go, he lets it go.
He is surprising the heck out of me. I am I have been very pretesment what I've seen from this. Yeah, he's been doing good. I still think it's a bad pick though. You talk about the draft, but if you come right back starting quarterback for the next ten years. It won't see it big then. Full time fantasy boys never really there on my radar. It's not that I don't like him. I do like Tyland Boyd, and I really like him for the first four or five weeks. I think in round five where you would take him,
I've been taking a running back. Okay, I think even the receivers too. Again, it depends who's on the board. But yeah, I'm trying to think I have I might avoid him one league. I definitely don't have much. I just feel like there's other players in that range that I've been taking week days to to four b m. Let's get into the the Chargers, Los Angeles Chargers, who uh that that team has a ton of fantasy weapons here, um, and this is why they they don't really want or need to orfer Melvin Gordon a deal. I think that they'll be just fine offensively without him. I think a lot of people feel that way. So let's break it down.
Let's start with the the running backs, where you have the Melvin Gordon situation. There was a report that said that Melvin you know, might be there for week one to hold that one week one, But I don't I don't believe that. That was not a report that was exactly yeah, and it was just part of something else. And his opinion was he thought he would be in for week one. Now I don't like that. Yeah, And of course it got all blown up. Everybody's reporting that
Melvin Gordon is gonna be in for week one. Now, Yeah, I don't believe it. I don't believe it. You know, it's it's clickbait. There's a lot of clickbait out there. You know the days exactly everything is fake. No, no, it's not true. Not everything is fake, but a lot of things are. Most everything is except for us. We're real. Where all give it to you real? Even Chris that's true. Yeah, no, true, that's true. Everybody I tell you I like I draft. I'll tell you right now I have Josh Allen almost
every team I've drafted so far. We'll see how it works at backup Q. He's real, he's I may lose every league. Actually, you know what I'm doing great and fantasy baseball this year. I'll tell you that I'm in the playoffs four to six leagues and kill in it. But it's football season, so it's hard to manage both. People don't realize that that right now is the baseball playoffs, and that's really more important than what's going on in
football right now. But we're talking about the Los Angeles charges here, all right, Melvin Gordon, Uh, we know the situation here at this point, it looks like he's falling further and further. Uh fifth round right now, I'd say it is where he's he's going in that range. But there's a lot of you know, it depends on the draft. Like in a homely draft, he might go in the third round or the seventh round. I've seen him go. He's going in. His range of outcomes is freaking us over.
I'll give you something. Let's see Melvin Gordon trying to find it right now. He's gone everywhere from thirty ninth to sixty second. So you're talking to beginning of the fourth round to the sixth round in a lot in the most current full time fantasy uh, you know, overall rankings.
So his range of outcomes and if you start adding in you know, local leagues or you know leagues among people that just do it for fun like we used to um, then you're you're looking at the range of outcomes is even gonna be wider because there's gonna be a lot of people that don't know what's going on. There's gonna be a lot of other people see the headlines. He's not gonna be a camp and bail on him. So the range is gonna be huge. Yeah, absolutely, because
you know, obviously we don't know. I still think Zeke has a better chance than Melvin Gordon of playing uh week one. I just I just don't see Melvin going playing at all the season. I don't think the charges are gonna do anything. I don't think they're gonna give him what he wants. It's just not gonna happen. Uh, So he can't, he can't stay out the whole season. I've tried to read everything I could on this so far, and from all indications I can find, and remember, we
thought to this about Bell as you two. But from every indication I could find, and the people that wrote this, I mean, we're talking to ESPN, you know, all the big sites are saying he has to be in by week ten to get as as an accrued season so he can become a free agent at the end of the year. Well, okay, so he has to he has to come in at some point. But what happened with Bell last year, didn't he also have to do the
same thing. No, he wasn't under contract and he'd already had enough accrude time, so it you know, it's a different situation. Alright, good, thank you for clarifying that. So he has to all right, well, I could see him missing a good portion of the season at least, That's where I'm with you. Yeah, so you have if you want to. I would say this if similar to like
we were talking about Zeke last week. We said, you know, if you're in one league and it's a big money league and that's the only league you're in, don't take the chance, play it safe, go a different route. I would say the same thing here with Melvin Gordon, of course, but if you're in ten leagues and you want to draft him in one maybe two, I would say that one maybe two out of the ten. Uh. And I
mean because you know what, why you know what. I understand what you're trying to say, But my question is why why take the risk at this point when you know there's just we just every negative news. I'm with you, Zeke, I do If Zeke is not in week one, I think he's gonna be in week two because if he's not there week one, the Giants took Gona, spank Dallas and Jerry Jones is gonna freak out, So so I
expect him back by week too. Gordon, we can absolutely see a retract, you know, a long extended time off here for him, and Nan scares me. And at that point, you know, it's the same thing as looking at Kareem Hunt coming back in week ten, right, you don't you tell everybody not to draft him. Seventh and eighth round is way too early. Well, at this point, I'm looking
the same thing for Gordon. Okay, So if you're looking at it like that, then yeah, because Kareem Hunt right now is getting drafted in the double digit rounds, so you know you're you're getting him at the end because you know, for effect, he's not coming back to like week ten, whereas Melvin Gordon you don't know for sure, but everything's pointing in that direction. And I get it only reason why I say one out of ten. So let's say you play ten leagues. Maybe you're cheapest league,
you're ten dollar league. You want to take a chance on Melvin Gordon in the fifth round or something like that. He's sticking out to you. You know, I take one chance maybe in a in a cheap league like that, but otherwise it's hard to touch him. Now. You do have these running backs that are there right now, and that's Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson. Austin Ekeler being the one that everybody would rather have right now. He's going higher in drafts. He's going in the six, fifth, six,
seventh round range, sixth round range. Um. He's a great pass catcher, as you could tell from last season. Had fifty three targets, thirty nine catches, four hundred and four yards, three touchdowns through the air, three touchdowns on the ground. He also did well on the ground five point two yards to carry five hundred and fifty four yards on a hundred six carries. This guy could get it done. He's talented. Let me jump in here. There's a few stats. Again,
this is from Throw Football Focus. Not for me. I am not this smart um Austin Ekeler. Last year, he ranked six out of six one running backs in PF grade with an eighty three point sixth grade very good grade, six out of sixty one. He was seventh out of fifty six running backs in elusive rating. He was six out of fifty six running backs in yards per carry average, seventh out of thirty one running backs in yards per target average, and all of those numbers were better than
Melvin Gordon's. Just say, yep, they have it. That's the thing he's like, he's great pass catching ability. I think you know he's that elusive Ward Nett. You know he wasn't like a Duke Johnson thing. I thought that Justin Jackson was going to be the guy who was gonna get all the early down work and the goal line work. Now I still think he gets a decent amount of coal line work, But so far, Austin Ekeler, when given the chance, has looked so much better as a running
back than Justin Jackson has. So I'm I'm at the point where I'm buying all in on Ekeler, and I'm leaving Justin Jackson down quite a bit in my rankings because of it. Uh, he may get some of those touchdowns, but Eckler has just looked so much more explosive than Jackson has. Right, Yeah, I'm I'm with you all the way, and I was with and the same thing you said about um, Justin Jackson looked like he was gonna be the early down guy and Ekeler be more of the
past catching and you know he'll also get carries. He had a hundred and six less year. He did very well with them. He did better than Justin Jackson with them. Like I said, five point two yards per carry um. But it looks like this he's just a better back overall. I know he's he's five ten, two hundred pounds. Now, that doesn't mean he like he can't take a full workload. Uh. You know DeVonta Freeman does that and he's only two
under five pounds. He's a little heavier. But Ekeler has just more dynamic I feel like abilities than Justin and Jackson. Justin Jackson right now, like he's got the pass catching ability, he's elusive. Uh. You know, he's shifted, he's agile, He's got a lot of things you covered in uh in a running back. So I think this guy right now is kind of a Steel George. Where he's going uh in that sixth round range. Uh? And like I said, the last draft, I didn't in a home league type
of draft. He went in the mid to late seventh rounds. I think that's a steel right there. That's a great value. Well, mid to late seventh rounds certainly. Yeah, sixth value steel their sex is still a good value. I mean it's starting running back for a team that we expect to be very good. Assume they don't all end up on I L. So I have no problem with Austin club. I think he's going to be a good, solid running back. We know what the charges are doing, but they don't
believe in paying a running back they have. They have low balled Gordon. They did all from a deal one year, ten million. That's a low bowl offer. Uh, Gordon knows it. It's pretty much told him all They all he needed to know about how the charges feel about him. They feel he can be replaced, and I'm not really necessary blaming the charge. They have other contracts they have to worry about. Philip Rivers needs to be resigned. He's gonna make thirty million a year next year or whatever it
might be. They have defensive place who need to be resigned. They have good backups. This is not the same situation as Dallas where zeke. There really is Apollo who knows charges have good backups, so that this is where they're going with him here. Like Jimm said earlier, I think Gordon does come back, but I think it's week don you know. I don't think it's coming back anytime soon.
So the only way I want Gordon is if I if I'm want return later in drift, I get good at extra back to back, I would think about doing that round six seven, round seven eight if I can last that long. That's interesting. Right on the turn you take them back to back, you lock up. You know Chargers running backs basically beside Justin Jackson, which you can get at the end of the draft. Really in double dige a round. So we'll be right back fasty football friends,

Because we become best friends, the best friends forever. I haven't really moved Dante Pettis at all. I got convinced that, like, hey, he's extremely talented, he's an early round traffic. He was great towards the end of the last season. None of
that's changed. But he's healthy he's still is talented and healthy. He's dealing with like this groin injury right now. But like he played entire preceson game, they pull him out. I mean they're playing him deep into the fourth quarter. I mean they're trying to use it as a as a motivational tactic, but it seems like they almost hurt themselves and hurt Dante Pettis by doing so. What the live week days to to four pm pastern on Sumo

Do you know they just grab you know those lyrics. It's just so deep. I don't like anything that's not real music. I want to see a damn Jim. Please. Yeah, you keep looking, it's not happening.
Welcome back. Fancy football. Frenzy were talking Los Angeles Chargers UM and we talked about the running backs Austin Ekeler, Like we said, we like the value their sixth round if you can get him there, uh any later, any later's great value, I think, and uh George mentioned a good point. I think if Melvin Gordon falls that far and you could do it back to back Melvin Gordon aust Ecle thing. The problem is, I just feel like Melvin Gordon might end up being being a wasted pick.
But we'll see what happens. So much draft capital and invested that early for those two picks, and you know, I mean, Neckler will have a little of his own value, but if Gordon is back, that value takes a massive hit. I mean, he could still end up is a running back too, So it's not terrible, but I mean you need both of them to hit for that strategy to work with that much draft capital and invested. Yeah, you
definitely need that to hit. And like I said, I would do that in something like one or two like something with the Gordon thing. I would do that and maybe one or two, uh dress if I can. You gotta get both at the same time. I would be more interested in trying to Gordon Jackson thing. They're just because I don't have to spend that high on Eckler with Jackson, you know, I mean, I don't know. It's a tough situation. Back to back with Gordon and Eckler.
I don't like that at all there's three running backs there, and one is the is the guy, and he's not there, he's holding out. And then you've got two other ones that could be very useful. But Eckler looks like the most useful and that's why he's going higher. And it's a messy situation, but I honestly would just say take Eckler. I would take Eckler. I want Eckler the most right now. Um, I think it's the best value. Anyway, Let's go to the Let's go to the war receivers here in l A.
And I absolutely love one of them. I mean, I like Keenan Allen. Allen is a very very good wide receiver. Um. You know, he's had his injury injuries in the past, he's had a history with that, but he's been, uh, you know, pretty solid with that past couple of years, right Jim. Yeah. The one thing with Alan note and
it's kind of weird. I really want to go back and check this, but I was looking through some stuff yesterday and I made a note at some point in the past where I wanted to look at the numbers closer and just haven't done it yet. Time has been like the killer. These days. But uh, I made a note at one point about how he starts off kind of slow in the beginning of the season and then
really ramps it up at the end of the season. Again, I need to go back and check the numbers fully, but at some point I had noted that, So I really want to look at that. I'll have an answer for you next week, but I gotta go look go
back and look at the numbers. But I remember seeing, you know, that he did seem to get off to a slow start the last couple of years, and I want to go back pass that and see if that was a trend from even before that, right, right, because if that is a trend that needs a slow starter. But um, you know, then that might could be. I mean we do this a lot in base yeah by low candidate, uh you know, at some point in the season,
maybe week five or something like that. I don't know, but you know we do this a lot in baseball. George could have tested this where you know, you have your slow starters. Mark two. Sharer was notorious for that. Um and you know you draft or you wouldn't draft him and try to trade for him mid season. Those type of guys that start slow and they pick it up in the second half when it gets warmer. Uh. I guess a similar thing here was Keenan Allen. I
will tell you this the last two years. Last year at nine hundred thirty six targets ninety seven catches, eleven hundred and ninety six yards almost basically twelve hundred yards and six touchdowns. Year before, hundred fifty nine targets, a hundred two catches, thirteen ninety three yards and six touchdowns almost fourteen hundred yards. There it was sixteen fifteen where he had a you know, he was dealing with a lot of injuries. He only played eight games, only one
I remember that in uh, and he was done. He got he got hurt pretty bad. I remember on a play I think it was Week one. So um, but this guy, you know, he's a steady in PPR, he's steady. He gets a ton of catches nineties seven and a hundred and to the past two years. That's elite. Um. The yardage is pretty much elite. I guess the only thing you would say is the touchdowns. He's never cracked double digit touchdowns. But touchdowns, yeah right. He's not a
Renzo guy though, I wouldn't put that against him. There's a lot of guys I like that. Julio Jones. Look, look, I'm not putting Julio down, but for whatever reason, you know it, getting touchdowns has always been slim for him. He's not a guy who throughout his history has caught ten eleven touchdowns every year. You're talking about Julio, Yeah, I think. Now I gotta tell you though, because obviously
you know we all watched the games. I I've had a Julio every single season he's been in the league, of course, but like, it's just it doesn't make sense that he's not a touchdown guy because he's huge. It's just they don't target him there in some seasons they didn't. The one season where they had Dirk Cutter, which who he is now back on the team, he had ten touchdowns. He had his only double digit touchdown season. He should be used. That's the thing. These bigger guys should. They
should be Enzo targets. The bigger guys are usually logically the end zone or red zone targets, and Keenan Allen is six to two eleven, He's a big guy. He he could get targeted the end so I could see him having a ten touchdown season. Why not touchdowns? Sometimes it's just a flukey thing. But he did have six back to back season, so you gotta assume more than likely he's not gonna crack ten. But if he does,
you're talking about top five wire receivers here. I mean, that's that's the numbers in terms of receptions and yards that he has. So he's always capability. He always has that capability. The only thing you really gotta worry about what him is I guess you know, because he has that injury history and we've seen he's dealing with injury in preseason. You worry about that a little bit. But he's still a pretty safe pick. The Chargers offense is very good. He's the number one target in that offense.
Don't worry about Keenan Allen. You want to take him in this middle second round, late second round by all means, uh, do it because he's that type of receiver. He's that good um and the offense is that good. My big Mike Williams is the guy I kind of want more. Uh, he's going later, of course, he's going high and high. The hype is real with all these guys, all these second year wid receiver, well not second year Mike Williams is the third year wid receiver. Actually, he's going too
high for you, Jim. He's too high. He's absolutely too high. Look again, round we're talking late fourth round, early fifth round. If you're lucky, I can't do it. Um. Look, I love the ten touchdowns, but those numbers were so inflated last year that you have to wonder if he can do it again. Um, you know, his number of receptions to number of touchdowns just don't meet. Well, there's too big a discrepancy there. Thirty three of his fantasy points came off touchdowns. Um, you know, and that to me,
that's just a too big a percentage. And I think there's definitely room for regression there, especially now that Henry Hunter and damn I always getting backward tight end is there, Henry is there in his playing with him. Now, this is a guy who definitely always had a good report with Rivers, was always a good red zone threat with Rivers. I think he's gonna take some of that off of Mike Williams. Plate the way Mike Williams has to get better. He has to get more receptions and I'm just not
sure he's gonna see a ton more receptions. See that. Now, I get the thing what you're saying right now, But let's make this clear to everybody right now. Um, the targets last year, that's the thing here. Okay, he had four, he had sixty six targets. That's not uh, he was a wire receiver three last year barely. I mean it was Tyrrell Williams and it was Keenan Allen Hunter. Henry obviously missed the whole season. Yes, Hunter Henry's back, but
Tyrell Williams is gone. So really, to me, there's three major targets in this offense. It's Keenan Allen Hunter Henry and Mike Williams. Austin Ekeler and whoever else comes out of the backfield will get their little share of targets as well, but those are gonna be the big three guys. And I love these offenses that are good offenses that have a trio of targets. I think big Mike Williams because of the price that you're getting him at two, I'm taking him early fifth. We pull him up to
the early fourth. I think the targets go up I know touch ten touch on is a lot for a guy only had sixty six targets and didn't play a lot of snaps, But those targets should go up too close to a hundred maybe more this year. Okay, he's gonna be starting. He's a starter now. He wasn't a really starter last year. You know he's moving up to the Only problem I have with that is that you know which Rivers do we see um Rivers through the least amount of passes last year that he's thrown since,
like you, I don't know two thousand nine. I think I only attempted five and eight passes last year because the defense is so good, because they got a good running game. Now you know they lost Darwin James, so maybe that takes a hit on their defense. So maybe the game script turns a little bit more in the favor of Philip Rivers. Don't forget Melvin Gordon. Without Melvin Gordon are probably gonna throw the ball a lot more too. Well,
we'll see. I mean, it really does depend on these guys behind him and whether or not they are good enough to supplant Melvin Gordon in the role. And that's what it really comes down to you're playing Russian Roulette there. But man, look, you guys know I love Mike Williams. I was all over him last year. I love what he brought to the table and I still do. I just think his a DP is too high for my
liking right now. I only have him in a couple of leagues because everybody's buying into him, and man, I want to see more receptions before I buy into him that high. I just do it is it is a high price tag. What do you think, George about big Mike Williams here and his price tag? I mean, I like Mike Tyrell is no longer there. Running game is not gonna be the same without Melvin Gordon, So theoretically there should be more balls going to him, not a
lot more balls. Was Keenan Allen still banged up? Uh? Hard may to rely on him being healthy with sixteen games either, Uh, Mike Williams sort of the anti Keenan Allen. Keenan Allen's gonna get more volume. Mike Williams likely to be more of a red zone threat. That's once again the bigger body theory there. That's what the Philip Rivers likes to go to a lot of teams have that.
So I like Mike Williams within reason. I mean, to me, he's on that borderline wide receiver to wide receiver three between that twenty two and uh previous twenty eight range, with a lot of other white receivers there a lot of guys who are in my mind, are just the same as him. But I'm a little higher on him than I would have been had the offered state the same.
You know, if Melvin Gordon was day where they might run the balls same as as last year, even more, or if Tyrelle Williams was there once, you gonna get three receivers there rather than two now. So I like Mike Williams. Yeah, I mean for me, by the way to um Jim, you're right. Two thousand nine was the last time Philip Rivers had less than five hundred and eight attempts. Um that would that year he had four eighties six he lingers around in his career. Philip burrs
around five hundred and seventy attempts. It looks like anywhere from five fifty to five seventy one year he had six sixty one. But you don't want to be doing that that means you're probably losing a lot of games or you're down in a lot of games and you just gotta throw. But at the same time, five o eight seems fantasy. Yeah, we like that fantasy, but that's what I mean. Five oh eight seems low for him. So I think a regression to the mean this year,
especially for Movin Gordon is not around. You're talking maybe five uh, And I think that's an assumptions education. But because look, it really does come down to how big of a hit the defense stakes without Darlin James, it really does. I mean, the guy is an outstanding player for them, one of the leaders on that defense by far. Losing him could hurt. If it hurts a lot, then you're right. Then Philip Rivers is throwing the ball more.
I get that. But if they can make up for that with adjustments, and they have a great defensive coordinator, if anybody can do it, he can do it. So I'm you know, I'm not thinking they take as huge a hit as everybody else seems to think. And if that's the case, then that defense stands up strong again. Then Rivers isn't gonna have to I think that defense is gonna be good. I think it's gonna be good. It's just tough for me. You know, I love Mike Williams.
You know I hate staying away from players I love, but I can't. The thing is, I can't do it. I understand. The thing is, it's it's very hard to get him. In general. I've already done four or five league drafts, managed drafts, and I haven't got Mike Williams yet. Why because people are pulling him up the board. There's no chance to grab him sometimes. Uh So I do want him, and I will pull him up the board if I have to, because I do love him that much.
I think maybe he regresses very little in touchdowns eight or nine, but I think the targets go up, the receptions go up closer to six, and I think the yardage come close to a thousand. I'm I'm all, I'm all in on the guy. I'm all on the guy. Update in the chat, Henry Mudo doing a draft right now. Mike Williams went at six and eleven, a great price. I can't take them as early as I've been seeing him, all right, And hunt to Henry, of course, one of the tier two guys that you want to grab on
the charges as well in this offense. Great offense to have. All Right, there, we have it ended the show. Have a great week, Laby the weekend. Everybody Football starts next week. Here's what you missed on fantasy football Frenzy. I didn't want it to plus dot com and I did a podcast with him last night. We did a draft. I was in his home league, and it seemed like all the kids in his league, we're drafting everybody else
except these valuable pass catching running backs. So pp a league by the Bay one point people are. They were all falling down the draft board. There was a ton of running back value in that draft. I I don't think a lot of people realize the concept that, like the pass catching backs are very valuable, just because they're the backup doesn't mean that the lead runner is always the better running back. Duke Johnson went in the seventh round of this draft. End of the seventh round. That's
a steel right now. I mean the guys the starting running back right now, and he's a great pass catcher. Um you had obviously Ter Cohen, guys like James White and uh Austin Ekeler. Seventh round, eighth round. This is this is where they were going in this draft where you're seeing a lot of the expert or analyst drafts, they go a little higher than that fifth sixth. So, you know, I don't think a lot of people realize the concept that pass catching backs, third down backs, or
sometimes they just split carries. Okay, you don't know exactly what the touches are gonna be the volume. Obviously volume is king. But you know, just because the guy's a lead runner doesn't mean he's going to be an RB two or uh, he's gonna be the better running back on the team that he's splitting carries with. It just means that he's the starting running back. He's the one that's gonna get the carries earlier on the other guy
could have just as many touches in the game. So I want people to realize that and not just say, oh, I'm taking this guy because he's the starting running back. You know, do your research and know exactly what's going on uh with you know, running back situations, because sometimes it could get foggy, uh and that's how value falls down the board. A lot of running backs went super late and it was unnecessary, uh, you know, because the
Chicago Bears again draft in the eighth round. The Bears defense just that's a big no no, no no, you know, uh well, yeah, like what you're saying. Dontrell Hilly yesterday six two catches, thirteen touchdown to Marius Thomas seven catches, eighty seven yards, two touchdowns yesterday. Are we buying this, George Kurtz? Are you buying ta Marius Thomas? Is he someone you might now take a look at in drafts?
Am I buying ta Marius Thomas? Because he had a big game in Week four of the preseason against a bunch of nobody. Um, listen, you want to take him last round? You know, dart board throw mud against the wall. See if it sticks. I've gotten I never have a problem with that. I don't care that drafted Chris Venture in the last round. Give a shot. Maybe Chris can have a big year. You never know, light I mean, I mean the same Chris Venture that's now in Sports Illustrated today. Am I Yeah,
