Ladies and gents, this is there. You're right, and I strongly believe is we have spent weeks and weeks and weeks prepping for our snakes drafts, going over who we have in the first round, the second round, uh so on and so forth, and yet that is by far the least fair way to have any sort of fantasy draft.
It shocks me that, in with all the advanced statistics and metrics and everything that you could get subscribing to any site, not just ours, that we still is as a majority of fantasy players playing fantasy football snake drafts. E Y doesn't make sense to me. I feel like snake drafts is just that's it's just how it's done. It's it's how the NFL does their draft. I mean they're drafting only rookies and players coming from college. But it's how they do it. I mean it's the big
thing for me is it's time consuming. And the reality is is look me and you and Frank and everyone that works there were all complete lunatics when it comes to fantasy sports. But some people, like my wife, they want to do one draft and they wanted to take an hour. It's not possible. My other big grape denist auctions, I do like them. I just haven't done a lot of them. But my big gripe is there's too much math,
and I was promised there would be no math. So I think it depends, obviously if you do a live auction versus an online auction. So for me, I've done both. And I think even if you're doing an online auction and you're sitting there with the eleven other guys or girls that are in your draft, and you have your computer and you're all in ESPN or YAH who or
CBS whatever, at least you're all around. And then like when you're going one on one with somebody and bidding up each other and you're trying to see who's gonna being first. I think there's something to that. Brian, Why are you so pro auction drafts versus the standards snake format. Well, I think you can really strategized going in. Um, you could get the exact team you want. The only player who I didn't get the player one of the most was McCaffrey, but it just didn't make sense for how
much he went for. There's been years in the past that I've been able to get the players I want from top to autumn, and uh, with a snake draft, if i want someone like DK Metcalf, now I'm gonna have to uh maybe get him in the seventh round when he would be an eleventh rounder just because I want him and I know somebody else will where instead I can get him for three bucks out of my two hundred. To me, it's it's just a it's a more beautiful strategy. Uh, there's a lot more of a
strategy to it. You're not, let's say, forced to take somebody you wouldn't want to just because it's foolish not to. Uh, You're involved in every single pick of the draft. It's just way funder and I think people that don't do it, it's just the Green Eggs and Ham sort of thing. They don't want to try it. They think it sounds stupid. They're used to doing the way they've always done it, and it's the way they do it on TV. Be it. Uh. You know, Matt Barry and the fantasy guys are on uh,
you know, Fancy Football today. They all go with the snake draft, and I think it's you can do one auction draft. You're hooked. That's my vio. So I totally, I totally, totally agree. You're involved in every pick and you were in charge. When you ultimately f up, it's because of you. And I've been on records sitting here last year in the same auction that I have this weekend, I fed up where I went and got a wide receiver.
I was trying to price and force. We're gonna talk about all of this over the next hour or so, and I got caught and then I got stuck drafting another running back. And I have two hundred dollars that's been a hundred and fifty on it on Odell Beckham, Antonio Brown, and Jordan Howard. That was not a winning situation last year, obviously, but I couldn't blame, Like all the guys I wanted were gone, I let them go.
I screwed up. And now this year I have worked really hard to come up with a plan, try to budget as best as I can, and go into the draft knowing I'm gonna stick too. Said idea, said plan. When you're in a snake draft, you don't have that control, and I think as fantasy owners, we are constantly trying to find that control. We are trying to be as safe as possible, because that's how you're gonna win. Be safe early, take risks late, and mold it together. You're
going to have a winning team. I believe you have the best opportunity to do that in an auction draft, wherein snake you lose some of that power, you lose some of that control. That's what we're trying to change. Um in fantasy sports e I ultimately fantasy football and really all fantasy sports. There's a lot of look involved. But I think in an auction draft you're kind of limiting the amount of luck that goes into it because you have the power. The percentage of luck, I think
it doesn't change. But but what I think is the coolest part of any auction draft is for me. You know. We we've been saying on the show is make make an a DP list, Make make an average draft position list of your own that you can follow in your drafts. And the reality is is you can have any player if you're willing to spend, you can have any player. So that's exciting to me. Like the guys that I'm higher on, I know for sure, you know I'm going
to get that guy. I mean, he's being said that he's worth ten to twelve dollars, but I can put fourteen or fifteen because I believe he's gonna outdo that. So I can get that guy. I can have all of my guys and the guys that I believe in, because don't there's a massive strategy for how much money you spend. And like you said, last year, you got caught. So auction is is crazy and there's not one to like. So it's a it's that's that's the craziest part. There's
not one to like. You can mock, you can destball all you want. Every auction is different. We're gonna explain why and how to rank your players for an auction. There we go back with you here today all the best joined my Eric Young and Brian Kedrick help me break down auction draft strategy and Eric, what's gonna be a little bit different for you when it comes to the auction is the way you have your rank set. You have them as all right, so and so is player thirty five? So and so is player Well that works, but not especially well for me. When I'm doing an auction.
This is truly when the tears are more important than ever, Brian, when you're ranking your guys, do you use tears for auctions? What I'll use is a cap So McCaffrey seventy and once he started going to seventy eight, I was out. Um, So i just put a dollar value to every guy, and I'll try not to go higher than that unless I've got the extra money to spend because I paid less for somebody else, right, And of course, But for me, when I'm trying to plan for the auction, I have
all my guys. I'm gonna turn my computer around here, so I have all my guys in color coded tears so I can understand, so I can understand best. Um where that's here kind of ends. And that's what I found to be the most helpful. So this top what is his running backs by receivers? Right, So this is the running backs, right, So in an auction, this top tier here, if you're watching on video, this top tier here are the four running backs. Obviously Barkley McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott,
who's still in there for now, and Alvin Kamara. Typically, I have found in an auction that the first player in a tier is usually going to be the cheapest because everyone kind of has the same idea. Like all three of us know that the top four picks in a standard Snake draft are these four guys right here.
But when all three of them are gone, the odds are that everybody in that room where everybody is in your draft knows the same exact thing that you do, that the fourth one is the last one left, and he's going to go for the most money. So I have found that in an auction, you better getting before that tier ends because you're not smarter than everybody else in that room, and e y quickly it's going to dry off, and all of a sudden you wind up paying way more for the last player. And that's here.
Maybe it's McCaffrey at seventy eight dollars. Then let's say Sikon Barkley went when he was nominated a while back. Yeah, there's tons of strategy to it. Is like you're saying, is is with the tier based drafting if you want, I mean you want one of those guys, you can have any one of them you want. But like you said, like say, and there's no rhyme or reason to win guys, Uh nominate players. Um. There's always huge discussions every year on a strategy to that. Do you nominate guys that
you want? Do you wait for someone else to nominate him and then go after him? Do you you were talking yesterday about nominating a bunch of your one dollar guys first. I mean, nobody knows how this works because every single draft is different and you're drafting with different people, different leagues, different settings. But like the best thing about these auction drafts are no matter what, you can get
your guys. And what I'm saying, uh like a DP, I'm not saying, UM, organize it in the number and like you know, the first guy is a hundred dollars and the second guys dollars. I'm just saying, have a list of guys that you like, UM, that you think could outdo their position and and a and a kind of like Brian was saying with the money, that's what the big reason I don't like them is it it's that's so hard to organize and I don't know who's
gonna like what player. So this is uh, it's definitely there's a lot more preparation in my opinion, to a snake draft, but the tier system seems to be what the best way to do that? So you wrote up something I really wanted to get into Eric today, and that is nominations, Brian. When you're nominating players, what's your what's your plan? Is there a Rhymeman reason? So typically in the past I would nominate guys that like Ezekiel Elliott, who I have no interest in UM and let people
bleed their money drive. So for the first time this year and did the draft on Sunday, I nominated guys who have wanted UM. I think it works both ways. Uh, but I agree. You know you've got that fourth guy, you're gonna spend ten more dollars than then maybe that guy you wanted a little bit more if you didn't get in early. There's a whole lot to it. Yeah,
and I entirely agree. So since we talked yesterday or two days or whatever about the nominations, I did a lot of research on it just to understand that if I was being idiot nominating those dollary guys early and from what I found, the best strategy is that everybody. Chiman of course is the obvious one, and Brian, you were right, like typically you nominate players you don't want.
You want money off the board. It makes sense if you have no interest in Ezekiel Elliott, somebody's going to pay you know, a ton of money for this guy you don't want, and then you could eliminate them. You're knocking guys off the board one by one. I think that even though it is the most basic strategy and auction, it makes sense because you're trying to get money off the board to put you in a bully position, to put you in a power spot where you have money
and everybody doesn't. But it's going to get to the point where I think you have to mix it up because if everybody knew as you're just nominating people that you don't want, well, when you do bid on somebody, they're gonna know you want them and they're gonna wind up beating you up. I think you have to mix it up. And as you get towards the middle of your drafts Uy, I think that's probably where you start nominating some guys you want and hopefully the prices are
what you want. Yeah, and it's it all depends on on league mates, you mean, like knowing them and knowing knowing who they're high on. Like I had mentioned the show before, I live in Nashville and we do a home league. It's been fourteen years running, and it's a bunch of guys that live here and there's a there's you know, five or ten Titans fans. So Titans go
higher than everyone else then in any other league. Like Derrick Henry, it wouldn't surprise me if he's picked in the first round this year, won't surprise me at all. Corey Davis in the third or fourth round. That's it's just that crazy. So I know in that league, I'm not gonna have a lot of Titans, even though I I do. I do go after them because I want to cheer for my guys. But nominating players, I think
it can do it. It's two ways. Like one, you can nominate a guy and like for me, the base strategy is you're trying to get people to spend money on players that you don't really want. But at a certain point, like for me, like that would be Andrew Luck I'm not interested in owning him, especially right now. I mean that could change over time, but right now I don't want him on my team because I don't know if he's gonna play, and if he does play,
how effective is he gonna be? So if I nominate him, but if it doesn't go up and I can get Andrew Luck for I mean, and he does play, that's a massive steel. So you, I mean, you need to pay attention to every single pick. You can't. You can't write them off because they're savings there sometimes, and that's that's an even stronger point. Like Andrew Luck. I know in draft, ui you are just you're not even touching him,
You're not worry about it, you're just moving on. But in auction the price may be right where you're like, all right, I will even you. Brian, who does not want ze Hugh Elliott, I'm sure there's a number that you would pay for him. Well sure, I mean I paid fifty four for Girly and I was nervous going in, but as you said, once guy started going, I'm desperate. And so if I could get Ezekiel Elliott forty bucks, how do I resist? You do you have because you you drafted this pass on day So do you have
how much Ezekiel Elliott went for in your auction? Um? I think he went for fifty eight dollars out of the standard two. Right. How much did the other guys go for? In his tears, McCaffrey said, you said seventy eight? Um, how much do you Barkley and Camara go for? I think they both went north of seventy dollars? So then Iszekiel Elliott just in year league? Every least different when he hit into this after the break, But Zekiel Elliott
went for a uh start discount compared to those three. Yeah, Levian bell is really Uh what's scared everybody like Styear with with his holdout being sincere um? So yeah, people are afraid of him. They're afreid of Gordon and I am too, Yeah, so am I How much how much the Melvin Gordon go for? Oh jeez about something like that? Yeah, so they are. It's very clear you gotta in his league.
And again, I'm gonna get into this in a few moments, but in Brian's league, is Zegel Elliott goes for Forget the numbers for a seconds, It doesn't matter, it's irrelevant. He goes for twenty dollars less than all of the other guys in his tier. Fine, that is a massive, massive discount. Melvin Gordon, say what you will, but when we started this draft process a few months back, he was in that David Johnson lady on bell Ish tier. He went for almost half of what those guys went
for in Brian's draft, A stark, stark discount. There. You're gonna have to do with what you're comfortable with, euy in an auction? Would there be a number for you? I know you what you how you feel about is Zekility is still in your top four? Your number one player for now? Is there a number with Melvin Gord? We talked about rounds that you would't feel comfortable paying for Melvin. There's a number for all these guys that. The truth is is because of the Levy on Bell situation,
everyone is drafting scared. He's the only big money player. He's the only guy that has ever done that ever in the history of the NFL. He sat out an entire season, made zero dollars, So that's scary. Everyone thinks Jerry Jones will pay up. The Spanos is do the same in Los Angeles. You know lit Daily Rodo dot Com guide you to victory as you swing for the fences playing Daily Fantasy Baseball. It's Greg Sausman, Eric Young, Brian Kendrick. This is the BFFs now Brian, you say that you don't do tears. You just give a sign of price to everybody and if they go over that price, you do your best to stick to your budget. How do you know how
to budget your players when you're coming up with these numbers? Well, I guess you know you have your top guys and how much you're willing to pay? Uh so for me, you know, Davante Adams, That's that's who I wanted the most. Um. But if I'm doing a snake draft, I think it's silly to take them first, because how do you not take the running back? Anyways, I'll just start working backwards, see how much money I have, and uh, you know, realizing that a lot of the guys I want I
can get for five dollars or less. I just need those three or four guys. Who are some of those guys? And I'm just kind of jumping around, who are some of those guys that you really like this year that are in the five dollar price range? Well as stupid as this sounds, their line got him for four, Mayfield for three, I got Kiki for a buck, I got uh and Kill Harry for two, Kareem for one, and
uh Penny for three. Okay, so it seems and that's a good strategy I want to get into as well in a little bit that Brian his entire bench is full of these death guys. The other thing they don't like his paying four dollars for a kicker ever, But that's that's on you, but like your quarterback at three, I love it. I don't care who the quarterback is. If you want Baker Mayfield and you get under five dollars,
that's a great price. You want to take a shot on Nikila, Harry rushop Penny under five dollars, that's a great price to fill your bench out with one to four dollar players, forget the kicker for moment. I think that makes a lot of sentence, and I suggest everybody does that. Because the quarterback position is so massive, and it so has so many players in it, you should be able to get your quarterback for eight cheap price.
And there's no reason to pay the twenty five dollars or whatnot it costs for Patrick Mahomes, or the twenty dollars is gonna cost you for Aaron Rodgers or something like that, when you could go out and get a Baker Mayfield for under five dollars. But the reason that I asked you about how you know how to price these guys is because the best research that I have found, and e Y you alluded to this a little while ago, is knowing your league mates and knowing your league. Every
one of us here and everybody watching and listening. Have been in home leagues for a decade at this point, or a really good amount of time. You know your league members. You why you know in Nashville that all these Titans are going to go for a way too much money. You know that when you know you're gonna leave with Brian Kendrick, Russell Wilson is probably gonna go for too much money. Ultimately, you want to know your league, and that's how you set up your tears, and that's
how you set up your rankings. I'm in New York, Tacon Barkley. Forget this year, he's the number one player. Last year, I knew Seagoon Barkley was gonna go for too much. I'm the one that paid too much for o Doub Beckham last year. I know that this year Levy on Bell, being that I'm in a league with plenty of Jets fans, is going to go for too much money. So I have learned to set up my tears and set up my rankings based all my league.
You y yeah, I mean, and you have to. I mean there's gonna be obviously chances where you can't like if you're in Best Ball and and other leagues like that work you're drifting with complete strangers. I mean, you can't do that, but leagues where you can prep. You need to make mental notes. Uh sometimes like I'll have a sheet of paper and I'll write down certain things. Make sure you get a top five tight end before this round. Just things like that to keep in mind.
Like I know, like, um, I'm playing in the league with miss and he's a crazy Cleveland fan and and like so like Chubb, Backham, like those guys. He's gonna take those guys before or their value makes sense. And I think in an auction, if we did an auction, he would pay a bunch of money for me, Brian with Baker Mayfield for three dollars, that's a massive steal. He's going early the top five quarterback, he's the top
five quarterbacks, so he's going super early. In the fact that he got him for three dollars is absolute insane and the value there is unbelievable. And I think he could end up being a top five quarterback. But offense is gonna be hard to stop as someone that's really good at this, Like wouldn't you want to play in an auction with them? Is then where you could then just put Nick shove up immediately and was watching blow of his budget on him or something stupid like that.
Of course, but the reality goes back to my first point I said, is it's so time consuming. Look, I'm a lunatic. When it comes up, I'll make time to do an auction draft. But the reality is is trying to get twelve guys that are on the road four or seven, three and sixty five, even to get him together to do an online draft is impossible. Seth Rawlins isn't gonna be in the country and he's gonna auto draft.
He won the whole thing last year auto draft. He's got auto draft because the day we we selected, the majority selected, he's not gonna be around this happens. I would love to do more auction drafts. Um this raality is is I don't play with people that want to do them. Sure, Brian, how long do you think in auction draft compared to a snake draft? Just time wise, it's about two and a half times longer. I would say that regular regular drafts about an hour. When I
did Sunday it took two and a half hours. But to me, it's the best part of fantasy football. It's my favorite. It's my favorite two and a half for the three and a half hours of the year. So I agree, like the draft itself is your is the most fun time of year. UM, how do you take advantage of players? Like you heard what you said about miss and Nick Schuf? How have you taken advantage Brian in the past in your auctions? The trith is I've
been taking advantage more than anybody. I would always go with Seahawk, Seahuck, Seahawks, UM, you know, because I'm gonna be watching the games and I love I love Russell Wilson, I love the defense. Uh. So you know I don't have that many fanatical fans uh in the leagues I play in. UM, and this year I made it a point to go with this few Seahawks as possible. I wanted Penny, I can get penny for three bucks, great and Seahawks for Week one against Cincinnati at home. I'll
take them for a dollar. Absolutely when you're getting when you're getting those prices, sure, but it's interesting, like when you know your own weaknesses and trying to harness that and turn it into a win. To me, the absolute best research that you can do is twofold one studying yourself, and that's what I did this past weekend. Obviously, Brian, that's what you've done, e y. We constantly talk about
how you are trying to improve yourself as well. Knowing what you did and what worked and what did not work in your past auction leagues is the best way that you're gonna help yourself. I'm not gonna do what I did last year again, and I'm sure none of you guys will ee there because he didn't. You didn't win that way. That's how you improve number two. It's
all about league history. Brian knows that the top running backs in his league go for seven, needs, seventy five, seventy eight, whatever, that is the range of these guys going. I'm sure every year. For me, I know that the top running backs go in my league, top picks go for less. And again, the numbers don't matter. It's just about your particular auction. So I can't you can't ask me how much should so and so go for because
in Brian's league, in my league, it's entirely different. So for instance, I know that Sagon Barkley at maximum will go probably for around sixty five dollars or so. Am I willing to pay that? Probably not. That's not how I want to budget my team, but that is how I wind up pricing these guys. Using league history, I studied the drafts of other participants and I kind of have a feeling what they do. I know there's certain players that don't want to spend fifty dollars for anybody.
They want to just load up on the twenty five dollar players and have a quality and ultimately turned that quantity into more quality through trades or through free agent pickups and whatnot. And that's how they draft. Other guys are going stars and scrubs. E y for you? Are you somebody that wants to go stars and scrubs? Do you want to just load up on middle of the road guys. How would you plan an auction for for me? You gotta let the it kind of come to you.
So the very first auction I ever did was the ESPN Man's League. It's sixteen team league that they have done on the show every year for fourteen or fifteen years. Uh Nate Rabbits was the host, him and Matthew Berry,
and they put me in the league. I ended up missing a flight and having to rent a car and driving from Atlanta back to Nashville, which is about four and a half hours, and I had to call the only human being I knew that would be awake at seven in the morning and log into my account and we had to do the draft over the phone auction draft. It was also the first time I had ever played in a super flex league. I did not do well,
and I definitely went stars and stars and scrubs. I had two or three really high end players that I spent a bunch of money on, and then I had a bunch of guys and at the end of the draft there was like, you know, guys that are like I would nominate and I'm like, oh, I can get this guy for a dollar, and then someone would get
him for two. But I didn't have enough, you know, I had one dollar left and I'm trying to get I'm trying to nominate these players that I want, and then guys would just bully me and and pay two dollars, which the guy is definitely worth it, like late in the draft. And I think that probably fatigue has a lot to do with this, where you just get tired, you mean like you get tired of drafting and looking and and and eventually you just like let players go
for a dollar and that's where the real value is. Brian, is there a strategy for you? Because Ei is totally right. It is exhausting, especially you're staring at your computer and you're seeing guys go and you don't have money to bid, and you're very frustrated. Is there a strategy to you when you put your bid in, Like, there's always that guy in the draft. I don't know if it's you or not, that going once, going twice. Yeah, I'll go
another dollar. You could have want the dollar immediately, but you waited until it was one damn second on the clock. Is there a strategy for you when you decide to bid. That's what I tend to do is press it immediately. I'll go that one dollar right away. Um. There's been times where there's going once, going twice and I it's threw it and I pressed the show, of course because it's worth it to me. But my strategy that I'm just dollar dollar dollar dollar every time. UM, just let
them know I'm gonna get this player. You're over so it sounds like you're overly aggressive, like they're gonna know, They're gonna know when you're in on somebody. Yes, yeah, So for me, I I try to actually again and I'm telling you, I'm thinking too much in my own head. But like I try to do a mix of bull I try to be hyper aggressive and then there's times I mix it up and then I get in a little bit later on in the bidding, just so I don't know if people throw people off. Again, I know
people aren't just thinking about me. They have to worry about their own team. But maybe they miss it. And if I'm aggressively bidding early, maybe they they don't even realize who's up and how much they are going for. I think there is something to be said for that, using people's exhaustion against them. You have to pay attention for every single pick. There is no time off during auction. It's not like when you're the end of a snake and you're at the turn, you go all right, I
don't pick another twenty four picks. You don't have that in an auction. So use that to people's advantage. We have a lot more strategy conversations, and I also want to get into players. With Brian, we know how EU I and I are thinking. I want to talk about some certain players that Brian likes and why as well. We have a lot more to come. Fantasy Sports Today with Craig Mish, you could usually expect two or three uh different times when a player would end up hitting three home runs in a game, but it's been happening
way more often in baseball this year. In fact, you've seen it two different times this year where two players in the same night ended up hitting three home runs. It's like a normal occurrence at this point, weekdays noon to two pm Eastern on the A T. S. Y Sports networking on your popular podcast providers. You never stopped researching, and I'm doing that now reading um on the Fantasy
Football and dot com. A story actually published two years ago about Michael run Rich and he just spoke about uh auction strategy and it's just so interesting how everybody has a different strategy, which makes fantasy so fun to mean, Scott Hangle said for years, there's a million different ways to win your fantasy league, and it's true. And I spoke about before how I was reading an article about nominations and how you nominate players you don't want early
then to change it up later. And he's saying, hey, nominate the quarterback early because you're not gonna be the one that pays up for quarterback. Well, that makes sense. The other piece of infot that he says here, which I find very very interesting, is that you want to nominate running max and wide receivers ahead of their ranking that because ultimately, if you nominate them earlier than they expect,
their price should be higher than you expect. I don't know if I necessarily agree with it, because the other side of that is people may wait for the guys that they value more. For instance, if I nominate DeVante Freeman relatively early in this year's draft, people may say, well, you know what, carry On Johnson is kind of in that tier. Aaron Jones is kind of in that year. I like them more. I'm going to wait for them and then maybe you get a bit of a steel
here on Devonte Freeman. Bryan, we don't know exactly how you feel most of these players you and I saw every day. Where are you on Devonte Freeman this year? Um? Yeah, So I actually paid thirty eight dollars for him? Um yeah. I think he says he's healthier than it was going into last season. I hope that's true. Uh, you can't
have a really trust what they say. Um, but I think it's he's this clear number one running back outside of those top three guys four if you include a Zekiel If if he does in fact play and for for the value getting him half the price, and I jumped on him. Yeah. I like Davonte Freeman in this range as well. And he's one of these ugly event rings that nobody's gonna want. Now again, the Atlanta offensive
line and not look good last night? How much you y do you take preseason into account for things like that? Like forget, I don't care about stats obviously, but I checked out the Jets Falcons preseason game. I know you're gonna watch all these preseason games over next week, and the offensive line was just was pulled. And I'm worried about scheme then more than anything else. Yeah, I don't worry too much about that. Like, the reality is that there's a bunch of stuff about the Raiders beating, um,
the Cardinals. Look, the Arizona Cardinals aren't even running their playbook that they're going to use, you mean, like and if they are, they're only using half of it. That this is what teams do they hold back. Um. Also with the line, it might not be set. They may have twos and threes in there because to give them
raps and and see what they're at there. Also there's this is the time of year where teams are are putting players that they don't want to keep out in hoping that they do something in the preseason so they can move them. So it's it's something that you have to pay attention to for sure. Um. Like I said, like, I'll watch all the games, but I think that just comes down to that that I'm a lunatic when it
comes to stuff, and I want to watch them. Having game passed, I can watch, you know, thirty minutes, I can watch a whole game every snap of a whole game, so it makes it way better. But I'm not worried. I'd of the Atlanta offense. Matt Ryan. I think he's gonna have a big year. The thirteen games indoors on a track is going to be good for DeVante Freeman. They say he's healthy. Um, None of the other backs other than maybe Brian Hill, like Edo Smith, hasn't looked good.
So I feel like Freeman is gonna get He's gonna get his usage for sure. How much do you pay attention to the preseason, Brian, I watched next to none of it. Um, And when I hear you say how bad or shaky the line looks for the Falcons, I just built a little bit. Um. But yeah, a lot of the starters, they're not even gonna put him out there, and I wouldn't either. Um, you know, you risk him getting injured. You know, I remember as a kid watching Jason Sehorn returned a uh kickoff for a punt and
he was out for the season. First player the first preseason game. So yeah, to me, it's there'll be guys who will lead the league in rushing yards that will never get a snap, you know, lead league in Russian arts during the preseason will never get a snap dur in the real season. And that's and that's obviously true. Again, I'm thinking more of scheme, and I spoke about this yesterday.
How when it comes to defenses and you look at the scheme, who's being aggressive with the sacks, with the turnovers, and you try to get an idea of who will be aggressive for fantasy purposes as well. The only reason that I'm not just discounting what I saw last night, and I'm with you, Ran, I don't watch preseason. I don't really care about it. I'm not the maniac that
e Y is with it. But what I'm learning is, like last night, the only reason I bring up the Falcon's offensive line again is because Matt Ryan was in there. And they're not having schmucks in front of Matt Ryan because they don't want him to get killed. And as any Jett fan will tell you that watch the game from New York last night, they're going to They Jets
got to him over and over and over again. I understand the Jets defensive line is nothing to sneeze at, but Matt Ryan was getting pummeled last night and it was just a small cause of concern for me, whatever that means when it comes to Arizona You, I'm glad you brought that up. Did you see any of that game yet? I haven't. I saw some stuff on Twitter. Um was was reading through some articles today on the Athletic So I haven't watched it yet, but I will
probably watch it at some point today. Yeah, so they Kyler Murray was like decimated last night. He just he looked overmatched. And I'm wondering, and I know we talked about this in the betting portion of the program that Jon Gruden is also a maniac and he cares about preseason probably more than any other coach because he's Jon Gruden and Live Kingsbury. I don't know if he wasn't and you know, he wasn't running plays and he didn't scout or any of that nonsense, but he looked overmatched
as well. And I have to pause now when it comes to everyone jumping in here on Kyler Murray, jumping in here on David Johnson, because that offensive line was a major worry of mine coming into the season, and I've seen nothing to disprove that notion. Yeah, I mean, I think the hype, it is quite a bit out of control. Like I told you earlier, a couple to go, I bought a Cardinals hat because I'm curious. I mean,
I don't think that where Murray's going right now. I don't think I have him on a single best ball team that I've drafted because he's going way, way, way too high for a rookie quarterback. Um, I think he's the real deal. I think that the Cardinals offense is going to be awesome. You're going to want to own pieces of it. I think David Johnson is going to
have a massive year because of his running ability. Uh, because of um, the quarterbacks running ability and the scheme that they're going to be in the much more fits his outside running. UM. So yeah, I just the hype is out of control for sure, And hopefully this game will squell shot and I'll be able to get some of these players out a better value. Yeah, that'd be
I ideal. One word I do have about David Johnson the more I've looked into it, I think Michael Salfito wrote this on The Athletic was David Johnson and out of the shotgun because you're gonna un exclusively shotgun for the most part in Arizona, and I am a little bit concerned how things will go for him out of the shotgun. We'll see on the other side, Brian, Lamar Jackson looked great last night for the Ravens, and running quarterback mark Ingram looked good too. Are you You know
mark Ingram this season? Much more so than I am on Lamar Jackson. I get nervous with running quarterbacks and it scares me with how much Russell Wilson has to scramble because sooner or later those two hundred pound killers are gonna blow your knee out. Yeah, absolutely, Li sa Lamar Jackson last night not sliding after the game out and Rodgers like try sliding, man like. He scored a touchdown that was called back. He looked explosive, electrifying. I
do have him ranked ahead of Kyler Murray. But I'm buying that the Ravens and John Harball gonna run this dude into the ground and ultimately it could be major fantasy success. But it's also kind of scary. Eric, Yeah, it's obviously scary, But Brian was just saying, this is its risk and reward fantasy football. I mean, look at it running quarterbacks. I heard us that today Josh Josh Allen, in the last seven games of the season was the
number one quarterback to own in fantasy football. Think about that. This is the guy that has no accuracy, could hit the broadside of a barn. He can whip the ball, there's no doubt, like the armed town is there as far as down the field. But if he is not a good passing quarterback. But because of his rushing he was the number one. Not Aaron Rodgers, not Deshaun Watson, not not Andrew luck, not not any Ryan Carson went none of those big name guys. The number one was
Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills were awful. Awful. What This is one of the reasons that every year I like Cam Newton for everything that you're describing. And he's a better pastor than Kyler Murray and a better passer than Lamar Jackson. And he's a better passor than Josh Allen too. That's why I like Cam Newton again this year,
same thing. Um totally totally in love with what he can do, and of course with c mac behind him, Brian, because we're not with you every day who are some who are some of your higher price guys that you're targeting in both auctions and snakes. If if I had to do it again, I probably would have spent the eighty bucks on McCaffrey. Um. You know, it's just when I'm looking at it, I could have saved some money
on Ingram. Was still only twelve bucks of an Ingram, but uh, I would have rather spent those few extra dollars to get the guy who I wanted. Uh. And then after that, you know, I got Davanta Adams for forty nine dollars and I would have been happy paying fifty five for him. Um. I think he's as reliable as it gets at that position. So there you go, Davante Adams and Christian McCaffrey, two guys that Brian Kendrick here really really liked this year. Brian, what pick in
a snake draft? Do you do? You have one that you're like, oh, I really want to get that pick. No. I saw some stat that, uh, if you're one or two or eleven or twelve, you have the best chance of winning. Um, but I think you're kind of screwed any where you anywhere you sit, you're screwed um. But I suppose I'd rather sit at a level or twelve than than one or two. Al Right, so eleven and twelve wanted too. I actually want to be on the ende one to three. I'll take four because I still
believe in Zeke. I want ten, eleven, twelve. I think that middle of the draft ey this year. It makes it very, very tough for you. How do you think about that? Yeah, and this is this again. It just depends on your your roster set up. UM a league that I'm in with a bunch of the guys from n x T. This will be uh my third year in it. It's highly competitive. We do a live draft on flying down to Orlando to to do it with
the guys. UM. It's fourteen teams. It's super flex. This year it went from a standard to a half point PPR and you only have five bench spots. I did a couple of mock drafts last night, and I got sick looking at my team, Like, but all teams look like that? You mean, like the reality is is having super flex and having all that stuff. It just depends. And I'm picked thirteen. They did. They did a live
pick through uh through the chat group that we're all in. Um, they walk around, they have guys pick and actually Morrow, the announcer for an x T, was the guy he picked my name out number thirteen. So next time I see on my home a beating yes him hope. Potentially for that draft, that could be the auction. That could be the auction lead man, because it's clearly n x T guys or the people in the n x T league.
They're all about changing, right, I go into the super flexx FANI League, going to half point PBR, They're willing to make changes here. Yeah, maybe next year if I'm still in it and I'm able to be in it, I think that would be something I probably would bring up at this draft. Um, we changed a bunch of the stuff. We vote on everything majority wins, uh. And I know none of the guys are gonna probably listen
to the show. And I know having a super flex, having a super flex, it's going to give me a massive advantage because I don't think anyone else in the league has played super flex. So I'm gonna take two super stud quarterbacks really early. That's my plan right now going in, and I'm gonna dominate, love it. I love it. That's their own fault for not listening to show, not not following what you're doing on a regular basis, because that's the thing we're we're revuling everything here. We don't
hide anything. I said this yesterday, like I reveal everything. Anyone of my league mates want to know anything. I literally turned to my computer this way to like, whoever you want, it doesn't matter to me. But that's your own fault for not listening or not understanding here. Uh. I regret saying that because they are psychos too, so they probably are listening. They're doing research and what you're saying.
Forget like doing the mock drafts. They're doing research and what you're saying, and p to just taking notes seeing they definitely follow you on Twitter at least. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Okay. Uh we had a minute ago before the break. When we come back, we're gonna do three questions in three minutes with Brian get his take on a couple of other things. I have a few more auction strategy points, uh that I do want to bring up here that
I've read. Whether it's with the Fantasy Footballers or whether it's on the Action Network. It's just a couple of ideas that I have seen that I think it is worth bringing up, and it's it's really interesting, including the
tight end position. How you shouldn't potentially nominate some of these tight ends yesterday that we were talking about yesterday, Eric that's not in the top tier but not below where you want and kind of just throw him out there who you don't want, like you and I have Evan Ingram and Hunter Henry, Bob Howard Howard first see where he goes, and then you get an idea how much it will take to get Hunter Henry and Evan Ingram. It's a little bit interesting strategy that I was reading today.
All Right, we'll take a break here, three questions, three minutes. It comes your way next with Brian Kendricks to stick around or on the way right after this. Alright, three questions, three minutes with Brian Kendrick. Here, Brian, a scale of one to ten. How concerned are you about Todd Gurley's knee? Continuing? You drafted in this past weekend? Uh? Yeah, sumwhere between eight and ten? Then why did you draft him? Because
I was a fool? Uh you know once once, once all those players are gone and they went for a little more money than you're willing to spend. You just gotta take a risk, and so I spent a little bit more of what I had. Uh, because you know he's the number one. It could be the number one, if he stays healthy. Which question number two? Which Seattle running back? Would you rather have Chris Carson or shot Penny when it's all said and done? Man, As a fan,
I go with Carson. Go with Carson. He's I understand Penny went uh in the first round, and I'm excited about him, But I don't think Carson has done anything to lose that job. All right, Chris Carson doing enough uh to still have his job. Obviously with Seattle, the more you read, the more you hear from Brian Schottenheimer, the better it does seem about Chris Arson. Okay, pick one for question number three, Philip Lindsay or Royce Freeman. I go Freeman. Why is that? Uh? Well, because I think,
you know, I like Philip Lindsay. I like, but he just seems too slight to me. And I'm much slighter than than Philip Lindsay is. But I think he's bound to uh to get hurt. I don't know why. I'm not hoping he does. I feel bad for saying that, but yeah, I and that's just a gut feeling, I suppose understandable. Brian Kegick, we appreciate the time, man.
