Episode description

Gregg Sussman and Frank Stampfl open the program with Gregg getting adamant that Frank had to say they are drafting next to Adam Ronis in a baseball draft tonight. Gregg and Frank go on to look at some updated position rankings, including where to draft guys like Adam Frasier. You're listening to the Fantasy Sports Radio Network. Fantasy Best Friends Forever. M Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do do Yeah. This is the Fantasy Best Friends Forever here on the Fantasy Sports alongside Frankie stavill I am Greg's about what's going on, Gregy, Happy Tuesday. Got some fresh news off the press here fresh excited for tonight. You got your home league draft. We have the g S

T Draft, which we all split amongst each other. I will be either face timing or skyping with Michael Florio. We'll figure that out. Yet we're texting me. I hope not really. Well, we'll hold down the draft for you. Great. You just focus on your home leage draft. Do you don't want me involve? No, it's not that. I mean, look, we want you to make sure that you have the best draft that you possibly can for your home league.

I'm going to we need a tiebreaker. Can you at least tell me, like who we're picking that I could like in my opinion? Sure, we have the fourth pick out of fifteen teams tonight, Yeah, Team Road hisstory mixed Snake draft pick four of course, right after Adam Rhonus got to be back to back. Oh, it's non Rhonus. Are you okay? I'm fine, man, Like you keep doing that,

You're right, Yeah, I'm good man. I mean kind Are you kind of infatuation with Adam Rutas that you need to get up your chest because you said, of course, is what happen? What happened Adam runs? Last time we played him frank fantasy basketball? Yeah, different sport. What happened. We took him out, We beat him, We beat him. Not scared of anybody that's scared of I'm not scared of anyone either. I'm just saying you're nervous. But it could have been anyone, like you could if it was

if it was Matt Moodika. I would say, oh, well, we're drafting next to Matt Moodiga, real recognized, real recognized on the other side. Who's on the other side of us? Exactly? That's my point. Let you know right now, I don't want to know. I don't I don't care. I don't care. So you have first pick in your home league raft tonight, correct? I do? I do? We keeper league though, already made up your mind moving bets, not thinking about it. Is it crazy that in my home league points draft that

I have Thursday night, I have the third pick. Mike Trout bets shots and the grammar all there, so I have third pick. My dad has four keepers, he's the first overall pick. They're all hitters, so he might take shots at first overall. Again, points league, Mike Trout's gonna go second. Obviously, it's crazy if I take the grom over bets in a points league, Yes, still might do it. I've been saying this all even saying this all draft season.

Just in the points league it's different. I don't know. Look, everyone's points leagues the way that the points that are calculated is different, but in mine it's very pitching heavy, so same. So now it's points like it's categories. But Holdtown Hello has been telling me, he's like, you should take shuts Are at one. That's the guy you should take. And I'm just like not doing it. And you have Eronado, Wheeler Snell and Justin Turner. Well you already have a

first round caliber hitter in Eronado. You always start three outfielders. So you said you just take a first round picture. Makes sense, right, I'd probably take sure. I'm not taking sure. That's fine. Yep, everyone's different. I'd like to get my pitching. I get it. I usually I usually do too, but I think Mookie Batts is one of those guys. It just changes everything for you, makes it a lot of things easier for you. The rest of the way I

think about this, you find some pitching. If I don't take because I'm picked three twelve teams when it was sorry, when is this shot this weekend? This is Thursday night. If I don't take, that's at three. I mean, if I do take bets at three and I don't take a starting picture, I don't know who's gonna be there when by the time I come back to me, you know, and Flaherty as keepers already, so it's not bad. It's

a fine start, but I really want that anchor. I was already kind of projecting this, and I was thinking, you know, the best starting picture that might come back to me in the second round, here's a guy like James Paxton. Because it's a twelve team league and wan you can keep up to four play here, so a lot of players off the board, so people go pitching heavy.

So I think I'm gonna take to Grom. So it's funny you say that because I'm sitting at my spot and the best picture that might come back to me is James Paxton. That's exactly that's exactly the range. But you already have Snell, so I feel a little bit better about Snell as ace rather than like ty One or Flaherty. And it's not you know, if you have thy own, Flaherty and Paxton as your three starting pitchers in a points league, that's not bad, it's fine, But I would just feel a lot better if I had

that Ace, that anchor Grom. Let's see what happens. So my dad will take trout. So for me, like, I'm thinking about a lot of the second round, and I kind of alluded to it yesterday on the show by asking you guys like rank out fielders, And that's kind of where I'm thinking to go with my second pick. I was doing a lot of research last night and into this morning, and we've said this a lot, and we wanted to talk today about like updating rankings and

looking at the potential targets. Second basis deep. Second base is really deep, and in my league where I don't eat a middle infielder, I don't want to take it. Even I love Daniel Murphy, and I think it's very shallow. Right, there's no middle field, no corner three three our fields, there two utilities, so it's much more shallow. Talked about making it deeper. We have, we're gonna we have originally started and then we we expanded to middle corner and

we added a fourth rather than a fifth. I'm gonna I am going to try to address that next year again. Um, it does is very shallow. It's twenty four rounds that rather than your standard thirty for instance. UM so it's six players shallower. And I'm thinking that anyway, for me, second base in my kind of league is very, very very deep. And as much as I love a guy like Daniel Murphy. We talked about some of the first

basement I love in Carlos Santanna. I draft every year, It's like, man, I can wait and hope that what a Murphy scooter or can you get back to me at that or five turn, which is possible certainly, And I'm like, all right, like one of them, I'm very I'm thrilled. I'm thrilled about it. So I'm gonna wait.

And I really think that the best player on the board, and I said this, yes staying on the show is one of whichever I'm gonna take a picture, and the outfield we're gonna take is one of fam Doll, Springer or Pweek And that's why I asked it on yesterday's show. And I think those four guys are the next are the best hitters that will probably be there for me at that two three turn at that two three turn. So I was trying to figure out in my league, who makes the most sense like the answer to that,

I still don't know the answer. I don't like my So the whole time when I kind of got off the Murphy idea, I was leading Springer and then after Peak get a monster home run off a Cluver and then again a monster home run of Brad Had Like, I don't want but Greg, it's spring training. You can't buy in correct, You're absolutely right, But I am buying into Springer, like stealing three times in spring and that

like kind of pushed me toward him. And then I'm like, if I want the best balance, isn't that Tommy Fam. And I'm like, I have to say, I'm probably least likely out of those four guys to draft David Doll. I would think the other three guys are more the other we are more likely For me, I'm honestly hoping like one of them go before HY draft to make my decision a little bit easier. I'm still it still feels like and I hate to do this. Rank don't go,

don't get upset at me. It still still feels like between Springer and Twig more so than Fam, even though Fam is probably like alight. Finally, I played the field yesterday for the first time in spring. I'm probably between I'm probably between Springer and Twig. That's where I am. I think I might have those guys ranked the highest group. And I'll say and I'll say this, and I would have kept Corbet rather than trading him away, and not Turner.

I probably would have just drafted both of them. So here's what I have, Greg, I have pre Get eighteen and then Springer nineteen fam twenty, and I have doll At. That's exactly that's the range, but inside the mind. But it's right there, it's right. I'm in the right spot. It's the right range. It's the right time. I get it. Oh, Man,

don't stress too hard, have fun all right? Man went through some of these, uh, some of these spring training headlines updates news Jong Hogang yesterday, I believe it was. It might have been after we got off the year. Joe Hogang named the starting third baseman. Eric Zala's name is starting short stop. So for anyone who plays in and only leagues, it's obviously huge news. But even in fifteen team mixed Rohdo I do think Jung Ho Gang

could have value? I mean, there's a guy who has five hits in the spring, Greg, all five of them are home runs, and now he's gonna play every single day. I think he's got some He's got some pop for sure. Remember back and this guy has bounced all around baseball. He's had the issues off the field with the d u I, but when he played, he had some pretty good pops. So I mean in a hundred hundred three games back in twenty one home runs sixty two RBIs. He had to fifty five The year before he hit

two eight seven with fifteen home runs. So can you get a you know, to sixty two seventy batting average with twenty home runs out of Jung Ho Gang? I mean, that's gonna bession corner infielder in fifteen team? Absolutely? Will you have another d u I? That's also the discussion. I'm joking, but I'm like, he's free in drafts. Yes, maybe after the news people might bring him up the draft board a little bit. But Floria has been all over it. Yeah, he loves him. It has been all

over him. So I think it was it should be an honorable mention because Floria is not here, so we gotta talk him up. Floria still alife, don't worry about it, but it definitely worth mentioning that Jung Hogang the starting third baseman man. What does that mean for Colin Moran? Right? He came over in the Garrett Cold deal just didn't really do much last year. I kind of had some expectations for him, but he hasn't been able to hit lefties.

Maybe you see him a few days, give Jung Hogang a day off here and there, but Jungle Gang is actually he's conversatile, like the what what he can do with the Pirates. He could play a little bit of second base, definite least to play shortstops. So they said they're gonna him the backup first baseman, and I think he's gonna play mostly every day. I'm excited about him. I think so Moran, as I was saying, was going to get the backup reps at first, the backup reps

at third, see what they can make him. But what's interesting, Frankie, is you know Junco Galley, as you said, he's going to get every opportunity to be mad again. And I think for free it's kind of lot like his adp over the weekend during the main events was three fifty three. Probably back in the middle of the order too, right,

So put that in perspective. Some hitters that went just after him, Josh Harrison, Jason Kitness, Jed Lowry, uh Damer Candelario, Ryan O'Hearn, like ohern to, people do love people love her because he was he was a small sample size last year greggy, but he was a guy who hit the ball hard, and he hit the ball in the air. Wasn't last year's He should mostly play every single game. I know he struggled against Left East. Wasn't last year's

Ryan O'Hearn. Everyone was super excited about Dozer Hunter Dozer, Yeah, I mean he was a waiver pickup in deeper leagues last year. I think we owned him in g D D did. But under Doser was like the guy, like the corner interfielder all the Royals. Everyone thought he thought he's had prospect pedigree for a while. Now he's never really come to come to fruition. And now the Royals have a bunch of these open spots, so they're letting

everyone play, letting all these young guys play. So I think Doser should actually play every day as well, Ryan o hearn. Last year, again, it was only forty four games, but it's twelve home runs, thirty rb i's to sixty two batting averages, forty two percent hard hit ry six percent fly ball rates. So talk about that forty forty club and he was over in both of those categories fly ball percent and hard hit rates. So it's not a great ballpark playing in Kaufman, but it seems like

he's gonna play every day. I watched a few Royals games throughout the spring, UM so far here and so get a few hits off lefties. I know that's where he struggled immensely in the minors. UM, but I think he has legitimate pop. He's always, you know, struck out a decent amount, but he walks a lot as well. So obi pe leagues, he has my attention. I mean real deep Jung Ho gongg Ryan O'Hearn. You're playing a fifteen team mixed rohdo or you know a L only

or and only. I mean these guys, they're they're on my radar. Enough up there's a bench bat for upside or if you miss out on a corner and fielder, those are kind of those are some of the fallback options there, Gong and Ryan O'Hearn fallback options. Indeed, check him out, Ryan O'Hearn and Jungle Gang. I'm not going to be drafting either of those guys tonight. Yeah, because you know, you're you're eight team home league. It's not very nice, right, come on, Gret, you gotta bust you

up a little bits. That's not nice, right. Do you have any expectations for Eric in Zaalaz because I'm I'm looking into his numbers now and never really done. I don't know. I don't know any when he's sixteen and triple four games, he had eleven home runs in twelve stone bases and he hit two ninety six. So al right, there's that. I mean, double digit home runs, double digit steal with batting average and it's good. Hey, I just thought it was worth mentioning his name is starting shortstop.

I can't tell if you're mocking me here. No, the minor league pedigree is actually good, is what I'm saying. Like we're not gonna do anything about it, but like, no, not really. You just told me he's good. He's a starter. He's gonna play every day for the Yeah, that's good. See what happens. Let's say it's not good. That's what happens. So today on the show, outside of some of these breaking news, really be like on the other side, let's getting Walker Bueller because I don't want to I don't

want to rush that conversation. I'm time matchup tonight, Walker Bueller against Shane Bieber. It's on television ten pm. Oh boy, you gotta watch it. I mean, I know we're gonna be drafting, but I'm going to have that on the background for sure. Sure roster Resource has Jongo, Gong bat and clean up. For what it's worth. That's interesting. It's been Corey Dickerson and Josh Bell. It's about to be in you know who's also kind of flying under the

radar that we haven't spoke about. Adam Fraser's gonna lead off for this team. So I saw not sneeky like fifteen I saw Nando tweeting about Nando and Scott Fianowski.

We're tweeting about Adam Fraser and Scooters Scooter Jeannette saying these are just like the reason that people aren't on these guys because they're not four top prospects, they're just guys that more so Genette of course in the past someone that's just has become pretty good, and Payanowski was saying that like nobody can be can claiming all I knew Genet was gonna be good and that's why there's no hype around him because nobody knew it. It's just

becoming a really good player. And it's not like it was a one hit wonder. He's done it now again and again. So that's the Guette part. Frasier. They believe can become a Scooter Geanette. It's like he's not a sexy he's not a sexy name, but a guy that just happened to be a good player finally going to get a chance to play every day, hitting on top of the Pirates lineup. I really like Adam Fraser as

a fifth outfielder. I think it's great. I think he's more of a middle infielder, like fall all back middle in. I think he has more value there than the fifth alf fielders. But I don't disagree with not just similar. Yeah, and you know he has a few minor league seasons with double digits throw on basis he had ten home runs last year and only thirteen games, So I think he's gonna play mostly all the time. He's gonna lead off. So I think that we were talking about like a

lot of contact fifteen percent strike out right. We talked about Ramon Loriato, a lot. I thought that Adam Frasier could be like that, maybe give you fifteen and fifteen seventy seven batting average, like he's not gonna hurt you in the batting at fifteen fifteen guys, that's how unrealistic. Um no, no, I think you know twelve twelves of fifteen home runs steels and look, there's a lot of players like that in the middle infielder. But he's going

later than all of them. Adam after going, after all, Adam Fraser sneaky. We'll be back after this. Daily Rhodo dot Com learned from the game's best DFS players. We don't just give you advice. When you look at Chancisco good final league numbers, having a good spring four home run so far about three thirty three, with being nothing out there at the catcher position that we just discussed a few minutes ago, you know, he's someone that you know in a deeper league, you know I might take a chance, and definitely in a two keep a two catch a league, definitely viable and and not being even looked at Saturday's eight am Eastern

on the Fantasy Sports networking on your popular podcast Providers by the Life and do you like have you the first twenty minutes, not mentioning Mike trap very the lead. She's like the very ust thing to do, wasn't really affect fantasy pace. That definitely working story. We also didn't mention Gio Gazala. Of all the time in the world to talk about Geo Gonzoz Right now, Greg, I'm talking

with my chaps. Mike Trout twelve years, four thirty, stay with the Angels the rest of his career, no opt outs. It's like a hundred million dollars more from the Bryce dif from the Phillies and one less year like Jack Kid. Yeah, twenty seven years old, will turn twenty eight in August, but shows no signs of slowing down. Um. Yeah, Bryce was the highest paid athlete in UH in all of sports for you know, a good two weeks here, and Mike Trout jumps him and rightfully so look, he's worth

every single penny. No one's gonna argue with this. It's good for baseball. I love, love, love when superstar players stay with one team for their entire career. So barring you know, I don't know anything regarding like the no trade opts whatever no trade causes that are included in the Yeah, but it's not gonna happen, but um yeah, good for Mike Trout, it's good for baseball. Should be the number one overall pick and fantasy. Don't get too cute,

don't take movie bets over him. Um yeah. I hope that the Angels can at some starting pitching because that's really been the biggest The biggest issue for all Mike Trout led Angels teams is he's never had pitching. He hasn't you know, made it. Has he made it to the playoffs? I think once. I think it was. He doesn't have a playoff win in his career. I know that. Um yeah, it's just the pitching has never been great. We know the offense has been solid, has been up

and down. But yeah, you gotta surround him with more talent. So let's go Angels, GM, let's go. Ok. You came over from the Yankees for that. Um let speak of the Yankees' goodn't see Yankee news and notes. Louis sa Farino is expected to throw tomorrow for the first time since being shut down. If all goes well, he will continue to throw and hopefully be back sometime in early May, but knowing that he won't be back to early May, the Yankees signed Geo Gonzalez to a minor league contract.

He'll earn three million on the DAL if he brings up to the big leagues, with the potential to earn to twelve million dollars, which is kind of interesting. Now Geo doesn't opt out by April. I think this is kind of an insurance policy for the Yankees. If Um, Jonathan Lowizaga and Louis Sessa and Domingo Hermon absolutely suck, they call it Geo and they'll place him on the roster. If not, she will be gone before before the end of April. Um. Jim Zala is a Yankee. Frank, Yeah,

he's pretty gross at this point in his career. It's really good in Milwaukee, by the way, putting it lightly, but look thirty three years old. The strikeouts have gone down. I mean he's down to seven point seven nine case per nine. Last year. The walks were up. Walks have always been a huge issue for him. His first pitch strike percentage has been decreasing four years now, not getting springing strikes like he used to. A four point to

one e r A last year. And you mentioned what he did with the Brewers two point one three r A. Yeah, that's great, Craig, But at four point four three xfits basically in line with what he was doing with the Nationals, I know, two years ago in two point nine six e r A. But all the peripherals say that he was getting very, very lucky. So I don't think it means much for fantasy purposes. Obviously, Ale only anyone who has a pulse is you know, worthy of picking up

an ale only if they have a job. So you might be able to win games with the Yankees, but you know, mixed leagues or twelve teamers. I had a few people asking about Geo last night. Greig. It's just don't even waste your time. I don't want anything to do with him. I think Domingo Harmon with the Yankees has substantially more upside. That's definitely a direct nu I would rather go in. I would have been own Jonathan Lowizaga over giorgan Zalis, but I really doming A Mahaman.

As you said, a lot more upside there stoking out. A lot of guys are testing out the opening period today today and tomorrow. Chad Green starting for the Yankees today. Jonathan Holders starting for the Yankees tomorrow, so there at least and it against the race today as well, recess it will come in and relief the multi ending whatever. They let him go five innings. Yeah, absolutely. Now you were saying before that Walker Bueller has been ruled out

throwing days that correct? Now is the opening day start? Mean, but that's very different than being ruled out. It's just not the opening they started. That could just be the pitches the second game, right, Uh, yeah, what's the what is the report? Did you? I got on my phone. I didn't like read it exactly, but I just saw like the headline was he's ruled out for opening day. So that's what we have. He's gonna make his spring training debut tonight. I encourage all people to to check

it out. Obviously it's gonna be a great match between him and Bieber. We know what Bieber has done in the spring. He's been rocketing updraft boards and rightfully so. But yeah, I have a you shares of Walker Bueller. He still ranked inside my top twelve. Originally I dropped him down a little bit, but then kind of seeing how everyone reacted to him, this weekend and and getting

the vote of confidence from Matt Modige yesterday. I moved him back up inside that top twelve, but he actually is behind Syndergard now, Greg, I know that that was a dilemma that we were having earlier on when we did the starting pitcher preview. We did Sinderguard versus Bueller, and it was very very close for me. Now I have Synderguard ahead of Bueller, but you are still in that top twelve. I agree, I think that makes sense. I have Synderguard over Bueller as well. Um may maybe

he's not ready opening day. It looks like he'll be back soon enough. But again, this Dodger's rotation, we know rich Hill's gonna be in it as long as he's healthy. Knows your Reely will be in Theresa will be in there the last two spots. I assume Walker Bully's Bueller is gonna be healthy enough to make a rotation turn. It's not the first turn the second term before they keep him like they might put him as the fifth starter in the rotation and then clean Kershaw certainly seems

to be working his way back as well. I know he's to rule out for opening day, but he isn't staying back in Arizona when they break camp, but he's going to l A with them. I think it's more likely he opens up on the I l Okay. The point that I was trying to bring up, though, doesn't make sense for fantasy drafts that are drafting like us tonight, for instance, the draft Ross Stripling or definitely not Hulio.

Your eyes um, I would say your eyes is behind Strippling because as of right now, this is just me speculating, and if I were projecting what the rotation looks like the opening day, the first five men, I think Kershaw is on the I l I think Strippling is in the rotation. I don't think Curious will be in the rotation. Maybe he starts in the bullpen. A long guy. They can use him as a swing man. See any reliever.

I don't think you'll be long before you know. I think at some point we'll see your eyes in the rotation. Someone else will have to get a phantom. I l stant rich Hill kent to myata, or they'll they'll bounce these guys between the bullpen and into the rotation. I still think your eyes can pitch anywhere from a hundred, two hundred twenty, maybe a hundred and thirty because if we're really optimistic this season, but he's a looked great in the spring. Um, so I'm intrigued by the upside

of your riots. But definitely Rass Stripling should be on your radar if you're drafting, either at the end of your rotation or you know, as a bench starter, because when he does pitch in the rotation, I expect him to be really good. And he was really good again last night. Speaking of a young pitchers, Dakota Hudson was very good last night, five scorels in with eight strikeouts for the St. Louis Cardinals. He looks at in a rotation spot and it certainly seems like he will. We

know Jack Flawery's number two starter on this team. I'm like a Walka, Adam Wainwright or there as well. Um Dcoda Hudson's going to start for this team. It looks like are you interested in him? He does have my attention, more so in deeper formats fifteen team roto in your twelve team standard league, not yet. I'll probably put him on my watch list. Greg. I know you love the watch list, but it's someone that I'll pay attention to in twelve team leagues. Anything deeper than that, I might

have a bench spot available for Dakota Hudson. Look at what he did last year year, Uh, every year throughout the minor leagues. Legitimate roundball pitcher. I mean, he's been at least fifty seven percent each level in the minors. Last year in twenty seven endings in the Major's sixty eight percent groundball rate. But the walks have been an issue for him, and he hasn't really missed a lot of bats. Uh, you know, only a six point to six k per nine last year in the majors, but

eight strikeouts yesterday in five shutout endings. Maybe he's doing something a little bit differently that he's able to generate more swings and misses and get those strikeouts. So, especially for the Cardinals, it's not to the same level of the Astros Greg, but the Cardinals are just an organization I trust, right like they're gonna give someone an opportunity

in the rotation. I trust the Cardinals, and I get it last year with Jack Flaherty, and it seems like they're just one of these these teams, one of these franchises that anything that they do seems to be right, maybe outside of signing Dexter Fowler, but but like the trades that they make, the guys that they call up, it's like they they they're very smart organizations. So I'm intrigued. I'm definitely intrigued by Dakoda Hudson. He's a name to

pay attention to. I want to bring a name up that I don't think we ever talked about other reasonally had I forgot about it, and that is Brandon Woodruff for Milwaukee, who I was seeing him go a the NFBC and I saw him go and you were chuckling at it. I was chucking at it. But then I was like, looking at what he was doing the spring, that the spring matters, but I was really, what he's doing the springs it matters more for guys like this than other people. And he was like pitching pretty well

in the spring. And then I looked at the numbers last year, like, I know, we only pitched forty two innings, were like, this wasn't bad last year. So I kind of intrigued by Brandon Woodruff. My question to you, Frank, is should I be you definitely should be. And I

look at what he did last year. He only made four starts, but he's mostly been a starter in the minor leagues because you know, he made seventeen starts seventeen interpal A he made sixteen starts, and so he's mostly been in a starting pitcher And you know, between his four starts and his he've teen other relief appearances last year nearly a ten k per nine A three point six one e r A. The eerie indicators were right in that range, over fifty three percent ground ball rate.

He's pitched well in spring training so far, uh here this season, and he's battling out for the fifth starter job in Milwaukee. It's between him Corbin Burns, who's another, and Freddy Peralta is also in that mix. And you know, remember how many strikeouts he got last year but was mostly fastball reliant, so Random Woodruff so far Guy Endings pitched, has twelve strikeouts, he's yet to allow, and earned run

four walks. So Random would another one of these guys similar to Dakota Hudson, battling it out for a fifth starting pitcher job in any rotation, but has upside based on what we've seen him. Do I think he might even have more upside than a guy like Dakota Hudson because the strikeouts have been a little bit better here um and he's making some noise here in Springs. So you talk about Hudson, I think it's it's a smart

move for you to bring up Brandon. Would I think he might have even a little bit more upside than a guy like Hudson. And what I'm doing right now, Frank and I obviously have our draft tonight. I have my home draft tonight as well. So all these names, I'm just kind of moving up, just moving up the draft board anywhere they need to go. Here, would you rather have Brandon Woodrife? Would you rather have Zach Eflyn? I'll still take Efflyn. There is like the right tier though, Yeah,

I think he's in that area. I think Eflyn has a more stable job with the with the Phillies. And again what I said about ff Lynn, I believe it was last week or two weeks ago, is they have this new metric. It's from Aaron Sauce ata CBS Sports Line. And I believe that you know Sarah's has worked with him as well. Some conjunction together there they made this metrocope called aces where it tries to measure how good a picture stuff is and regarding um contraprol velocity movement

on all their pitches. And Zachlan ranked in like the ninety five percentile and he had a valic velocity spike last year as well. So dak Ethlyn has my attention. I think he's a little bit higher than some of these other guys that we're talking about. For example, I have Efflyn Ranks is my eighty fifth starting picture, and I have Woodroffe at one oh one. Greg, okay, contact all right? Can you see I had a contact issue? How many figures are my holding up? Two? Three? Alright?

You probably see Bruce Pearl do that? Who Bruce Pearl did that like when one of his players out hurt. He's a basketball coach for Auburn. It was actually very cool when he did that. Um no, I yeah whatever, you yeah. Listen to Greg when it comes to March Madness and anything college basketball related. Certainly we'll see what we'll see how it goes. Um all right, So other players that are kind of in this range, I'm just gonna keep asking you about it. That's cool. Like, what

about the Houston guys? And We've had a lot of conversations about this. You've drafted come MQ pretty consistently. I've been on Brad Peacock and Wade Miley. The latest about Brad Peacock looks like he's going to make this rotation as a fifth starter. As we presumed. Problem with Brad Peacock was long term. He's not gonna not much gonna be there. Josh James is going to come out. Um, you'll see Peacock in the in the bullpen. You expected his ratios to remain good, but getting you know, a

hundred fifty innings round probably is unlikely. What do you think of the three, four and five ASTROS starters right now? I'm interested in all of them. Again, everything the Astros was touched turns to gold. And I know Colin MQ has been destroyed in the spring. He has an ear over fifteen. It's been very bad, to say the least. Greg.

I still drafted him as my fifth starting pitcher this past weekend in an NFBC main event, just because he has a track record, especially in this ASTROS rotation, but being very good last year, he was awesome as well. That was not in the rotation. That was more so as a reliever. He made fifty eight appearances last year, not a single start, but at one point nine nine e r A. He was lights out. He saw what he did a couple of years ago when he came

over to the Houston Astros. Specifically more than a couple of years ago. It's kind of a long time ago, but a two point seven three e r A the next year, a three point eight nine e r A. He actually went two hundred endings pitch, So he has that capability. I trust mceugh a little bit more than Brad Peacock, just because I think he has a higher upside to go deeper into games and to make more starts this season and have a higher endings pitched count.

Wade Miley. I also like he's pitched well on the spring. Greg He's gonna be given an opportunity. You know, at some point if one of these guys get hurt, then maybe we'll see Josh James get back into the rotation or a Forest Whitley. But Whitley has been sent down, gonna start the year in the minors. Parts Whitley is absolutely he has like four or five legitimate pitches like shore fire, strike out, like make people look foolish pitches.

He's going to be a beast. But I don't think anybody knows how many endings Forest Whitley is gonna get this here. So I like Colin mckugh the most of these these guys. Then I rank Brad Peacock, he's right around that seventies starting pitcher range, and then I have

Wade Miley a little bit further behind him. But the projection systems or for Colin mcqugh this here, Greg, they have him between a hundred and forty and a hundred and fifty innings over a strikeout per ending between a three point five e r A and a four point zero to ear a. So again, if he could give me a three point seven e r A in that, you know, with that kind of offense behind him, you're gonna be able to win games and he's gonna give

you over a strikeoup. So I talked to m the most out of these guys, not really worried about the spring that he's having because I actually looked into it. He's always had bad springs. He hasn't left a spring training without an ear a lower than seven. So it seems like, uh, you know, he he needs this more so than other guys were, Like, he really uses this to get his legs underneath him, and maybe he grooves

a couple of pitches in there during the spring. But I think once things get going, I think Colin mcqugh is gonna be gonna be just fine. I rank him the highest of the three you're still feeling good about. But I like Wad Miley. I moved away Miley up again last night. You want to talk about rankings movers, I'm moved them inside my top feeling. I moved them inside my top eighty. He's at seventy seven. I have Wade Miley ahead of Zack Godley, Gausman, Stephen Matt's, Matthew Boyd,

Kyle Gibson, Zach Flyn. So I moved away Miley up um considerably, Did I get you? Theres a lot of it is what he's doing so far, Like these are the guys, the fringe guys that I want to watch during the springs to see what they're doing. If they're working on new pitches with the velocity is that and just the fact that he pitches for Houston, and again it's I can't stress that fact enough. Dustin Verlander was always great. He won a cy young, he was great.

He's now pitching better than in his prime. And most of that is because the Houston Astros. They have the secret sauce. They know what it takes to make these guys good when it when it comes to spin rate, using more breaking pitches, you know, having these guys really go max effort on a lot of their fastballs that they throw. So they have the secret sauce. It's working out, and uh, I trust that it's gonna at least mildly somewhat work out for a guy like Wade Miley as well.

So I've moved them up. He's inside my top eighties starting pictures. Take that, man, I'll take that. I'd peacock inside in my top seventy. Let me ask about a couple more young two guys, Trevor Williams and Trevor Richards. Who would you rather have a much rather have Trevor Richards Trevor Williams I don't really want anything to do with. I think last year was a big fluke. It doesn't get a lot of strikeouts, he pitches to contact. What's

really really lucky last year, Trevor Richards. If you want to talk about amazing spring, he is doing that. The changeup is phenomenally. The strikeouts could be there so much much Rather have much, rather have Richards than I do. Trevor with well continuous give it around, preparing for our drafts when we get backs. We go out to the brons to talk to Phil. Talk Phil? Do we have Phil? Vona? Is fill there still in the Bronx? Can you hear me? We hear you now? Phil? What's up? Man? What's happening? Um? I had a question I wanted to ask you guys as far as the

analytics is concerned, Um, what what? Because I heard you talk about Frank, I heard you talking about barrel and you know, launching and all that. If I wanted to break down like matchup wise, you know, team first team kind of for the gambling purposes, what kind of stats would I What kind of stats would I need to know? You know, not the r ray and batting average, but the other things that I don't know about vote after research.

I think it's kind of similar to DFS Gregg and some of the things that we would look into would be, you know, more starting pictures going up against a certain team, or likewise, if if a team is batting against let's say Chris Sale, let's clock up the Yankees wOBA. wOBA is weighted on base average. That's a that's the saber Metric stat which you can find over on fan Graphs.

Fan Graphs is a place where you can find all these where if you just sort by team batting stats, you can kind of see what the Yankees have done against left handed pitching wOBA wise for the season or even ops. I mean you can use some of the more traditional stats as well. I mean those are things that I would use on a daily basis, So you see how the Yankees lineup has fared against lefties on the season. Um, and then you can kind of do the reverse for pictures, right, see what a pictures track

record is against certain players. I know there's a website it's called Daily Baseball Data, I believe, where you can kind of see how specific hitters have done against pictures. Yeah, it's Daily Baseball Data dot com, where you can see how Aaron Judge has done in his career against Chris Sales, so on and so forth. So I kind of use all those things. I think you could just you look at what a picture has done against that team in the past. You look at how a team overall has

fared against right handed pitching against left handed pitching. I I look at splits a lot. I think you know DFS and gambling go hand in hand a lot, Greg, But I think specifically when I'm looking at I think pitching matchups. That makes a lot of sense in that. Whatever I would do when I'm looking at splits for pictures or hitters, um, I would do that for gambling

purposes as well. Another DFS stat that I would look at when it comes to the gambling the park factors too, right, because you want to know, because you want to know high scoring, low scoring, you've been any over under in a game where the where the line is right, and what the park factors play at, how the fact park factors play into that. So that's something that came into

my mind immediately when he Askedville. Yeah, thank you. I appreciate that because typically in the history, I would bet you know, pictures like a hot picture, you know, if they there ten and one, you know, I'm gonna just following that picture. And now with the new stats of you know, launch angle and exit delo and then you

have a groundball picture versus a flyball picture. Obviously a flatball picture going against the Yanks who have the team average of you know, launch angle, and you know what I mean, it just makes sense. Yeah, I mean in terms of team specific launch angle. I know, look, if you use uh, if you go to baseball savant dot com, I'm throwing a bunch of websites your way. But fan Graphs, Baseball Savant, and Daily Baseball Data. I think those could

be three very helpful tools for betting. And I know that Baseball Savant just introduced a new daily matchups feature where or it's like it's they do these game previews where they show a specific players average eggit velocity, what their launch angle is, um, and it's it's marked out by like these heat maps too. UM. So like if if they have a high if they have a high barrel percentage or a high average eggs of velocity, like you'll see it in big red up on the screen.

So check out baseball Baseball savant dot com. They're gonna have these reviews for each game every day where you can see what a picture has done, UM, what the batter specific average egg of velocity is, um, what they've done recently. They got all these heat maps. So I think it's kind of like a culmination of things I know that you were specifically asking about, like launch angle and things of those ilk you know, hard hit rate or um when it comes to two to betting on guys.

But you think kind of all encompas in Greg, like you have to try and look at as many different factors as you possisly can. But the park factors for Shure too, I mean they come into you know, why is the game uh, why is the game over under a ten and a half? Well, it's in course field or it's in regally and the wind is blowing out the pictures like in regularly you're gonna see a high total that would have harmon Marquez's pitching. Like maybe that's a can spot the goal to go under, you know

what I mean? Yeah, all right, we appreciate the call. Phil. Let's get back to some of these players of these notes as well, uh as we prep for our fantasy drafts. Right, I'm very excited about this. We have the fourth overall pick tonight. We're gonna here and mirrors if he's there, which I think he will be. We don't think Rod is gonna take him, right, I mean, you never know. But when I asked him last week he said he was leaning towards not doing that. So we'll see what happens.

All right, So I'll take who's here in mirrors and he was there, Who's what's the plan all the way back? We actually get at least one starting pitcher in your first three rounds. But I've also thrown out the possibility if Francisco Indoor is there. I know over the weekend Matt Modika got him in the middle of the second round. There was another draft for Modika got him at pick twenty nine. He was picked two, He took movie bets. He got Francisco Inndoor all the way I picked twenty nine.

So I we want to get at least one ace on our team. I understand that. But I think if Lindor falls all the way back to us at what where, that's gonna be twenties seven. Yeah, I would be seven. It would it would be hard for me not to take. I don't think he goes there though, I really I think he goes earlier. I hope he's gone, because honestly, I'd rather get starting pitching, grabbing outfield and then yeah, I mean, I don't know if we would take Clevinger

in the third round, Crascoso potentially the Indians. Yeah, that's what it is. Yeah, but I would like to get if Lindoor is gone, probably look at a starting pitcher. See if you know Garret Cole falls down. I mean I've spoken a lot about Garret Cole up on my Patreon. I had my decision making of why it was so hard for me to decide between Garrett Cole verts. Chris said, I mean, that's how high I am on Garrit Cole.

I I pretty much have you know, Chris Sale, there is like a one A and then Garrit Coles like one B. It's it's super close for me, very high on Garicle if there's any possibility we could get him. But you know, once the Astros starting pitchers go, I think it's very close between Bauer and Nolah. I know Florio loves Bauer. Which way would you leave between those two guys Eileen Bauer as well Nick um Ni Polo. Thank you Nick Pollock talking me out of that one.

So that's why Eileen Bauer over Nola Uh. For me, I think that is that is very close. That there's a lot of guys that are in that tier. With Bueller and Cindergarten. We've kind of gone over that pretty much a nausea at this point, I think, and you know, I want one of these guys. Hopefully we can get one of these guys at our spot in the second round and then build a team. Team, right, I'm excited. Yeah.

So you build the foundation. You've got the hitting with Jose Ramirez where a lot of people are scared off, but uh, you know, still has the ability to at least I would say twenty five home runs, twenty five stolen basis, with the upside to be even better. I mean, he almost went thirty thirty in the first half last year. If thirty nine home runs over thirty stolen basis, so you know what the upside is there. He gives you a safe balance of everything. I'm not gonna hurt your

batting average. You could be you know, to to eighty hitter, but gives you that solid base. And then if you get an ace in the second round, you have your base of pitching stats and you have your base of hitting stats, and then kind of you can let the draft fall to you after that. I mean, in round three, if the best player available is a starting pitcher, if it's a synder Guard or Carrasco and we wanna, you know, double down on pitching, we have the ability to do that.

We don't have to reach on a starting pitcher because we already have one of each. Or you know, if we want to grab our first outfielder, if a guy like like Won Soto or Starle Martey, we're there, then we can go to that direction. So you know, when you start one hitter, one starting pitcher, you give yourself your that that safe foundation, that base or all statistical

categories except saves, which you get later on. But um, and then it allows you to go in different directions later on round three, round four because you don't have to take a picture because you already have one. You don't have to take a hitter. You gotta just let the draft fall to you whatever is best available. You know, it's funny because as I've learned it, as I've gotten smarter, better threat this draft season, I look at the our

our potential team. If we go with who's the Ramirez as our first pick, I really want to go pitt your outfielder, second third, either or I don't care. Like I'm very much sold on that, and I thank you for that. Frank, You're welcome. Greg. It's like, it's what we have to do. I know, the lindoor thing is very tempting, and we're gonna wind up doing Thatrez, It's gone. Yeah, who's your next hitter up? It's j D. Martinez. I'm

still on that the best. He's the best hitor. Yeah, I mean, I don't have a problem with it, But I will say this, I think you can make a legitimate argument for five different hitters there once Ramirez is off the board. J D. Free Turner two for sure, Erna, he's pretty damn good. He's very good. I would Yeah, I mean you can make the argument for him, obviously, but I think you can make a better argument for any of the outfielders, just based on having to start

five of them. And then with trade Turner the obvious. I mean, fifty sixty stolen mace outside whatever it might be this year, that's your argument for him right there as well. Um, And I don't I don't have any hate for Aeronaudo. I like Aeronauto a lot, but I just think third base is a little bit deeper and you don't have to start one of them you're not just you know, you know, to start start five third basement, Greg, do you have to start five outfields? J D Martinez?

Over the weekend see the A d P still at seven point three eight there were three there were two hitters going consistently ahead of him, Christian Yellows trade Turner, Greg, But you still prefer j D. He's an elite four categories average. Forty home runs should give you a hundred and a hundred. Do you think that we are down playing the fact that he's been injury prone every year but now we're just kind of sweeping that under the rug. I know he's gonna play DH most of the time,

so that helps his ability to stay healthy. But do you think we're too quick to dismiss the fact that everyone last year was saying j D. Martinez was injury prone, that's why he was going in the second round. Versus this year, you don't really hear anyone talk about that. Well, I mean, it's because mostly just plays d H where he doesn't really have to do very much, and he's the best hitter, and he has the green wall very very close to him and it works up very very nicely.

So no, I don't. I don't care about that answer that questions. Yeah, that's that's That's where I'm going. Um, your draft is Thursday. You you were giving us you're taking to Graham in the first round. What was the plan of the second Well at that point, my my keepers right now where I have two starting pitchers, I

have tay On and Flaherty. I have two hitters. I have Trevor Story and Whit mary Field, which allows me some versatility because Trevor Story shortstop eligible and then Maryfield is second base in outfield, so in this league we start four outfielders. So again, I could just kind of like left the draft play out to me. After that, it's you know, if if there's a second baseman I like later on, I'll take him. I'll leave Whit Maryfield in the outfield. If there's outfielders I like, then I'll

just leave Whit Maryfield in second base. And that gets me that versatility. So uh it my take to Graham in the first round. I will undoubtedly be looking for a hitter in the second round, most likely in outfielder because I would only have mary Field at that point is as my only outfield and in the league with twelve teams where everyone could keep four players just kind of you did not keep Patrick Corban? What actually did keep?

Did keep Corbyan in the league? I opted against it because the savings were just even if I was trying to Corbyn. I kept Corbyn from nine dollars over forty. Even though so now I have those are two different home leagues. They're both head tad points leagues have Verland for thirty dollars, I have tie Own for seven dollars, and I have Corban for nine dollars. Those are my three keepers to start, and I will definitely be in on the bidding for Erzer and de Gram as well

all the pitching babies. It is online, but I'm gonna be like in a room with a bunch of other people who are in the same auction. But we don't have like an auctioneer. We're staring at computer just dinging dang dang. Yeah. We I mean we do that all the time too, live auctions, live auction. I told Steve, Steve Consolino, who sets up the the g DD auction to which we now we're sure now a part of by the way, yes, uh, I told him entry fee for the league I mean the live auction is worth

the price of admission alone. It's the best part so much anything else. I like being there in that room auction. It's much fun. What's the I had? I had a few people asking us, is there like a story behind twenty seven? Not really our number Yankee fans. Maybe it's like a subconscious thing, Greg, the numbers one seven just clicks with us. Yes, Thanky Championships. It's funny because last year it was just we just having to keep bidding seven. That was it. Yeah, we're having ever been And then

this year everyone night it was just a thing. I don't even think we drafted anybody. I don't think so either. Erry pulled the draft results Max. I'm finally part of the league. Grege, what did you do that? I sent it to you two? Are you in? Alberto Monessey went for twenty seven? Like when when did you do that? Though? Well, in the middle of the night to make sure you you were the manager. I was a co manager. I did it late last night or this Morney one, And

you know it wasn't really last night. You believe that the only player that went for twenty seven in this auction was Alberto Mondessey, only we didn't. That's a good omen for Ian con about Mondesty tonight. If Mondessey is there in early third round, do we pair him with Jose Ramira as Greggy and we have a short stop in a third base and no outfielders through three rounds, so pairing him in like j D. Martinez makes a lot of sense. It does, It actually does a lot.

That's exactly what I said when remember when we were talking about Adelbert Tomonday, As I said, airing him with either j D or Erronado makes the most sense because those guys are gonna give you every other category. I'm not gonna give you stolen basis. You can absorb the hit that Rondessy will give you with the lack of

batting average because you have j D or Eronado. So if you do take one of those two guys in the first round, maybe it makes sense roster construction wise for you to get Modesty in the third, maybe fourth round in your home. With that we're in Chris ven I love about his league. I can tell you ask you my questions about from my draft and want to keep going position by position. If we could talk about our our targets. Let's do it when we come back.
