Welcome to the Fantasy BFFs. I am Frank Standfeld, live on the Sportscred TV Network. No Greg Susman out playing bingo in Fort Lauderdale, but no fear. The Closer is here Chris Ventra joining me, the Leader, the leader of the Goon Squad and the host of the Fantasy Football Frenzy. Ventra.
What's going on, buddy? How you doing? I'm good? How are you doing? Buddy? I wish I was the leader of the Goon Squad. I lost a big time in the championship. Big timer who went undefeated currently took over the uh the title of the leader of the Goons squad. Got a fun show plan for today. I want to look at a review of everything that happened this fantasy football season, the leaders at the quarterback, running back, and wide receiver positions. There's a lot going on today as well.
The playoffs are set in the NFL, or at least the wild card round for now, so we'll go through some of that. There's coaching carousel, there's people being fired, ers, rumors about, you know, people meeting with potential coaching candidates. So I do want to get into all that. I want to congratulate you and your boy Gucci Garoppolo. Yeah, and it done last night. What a way to close out the NFL season final game there Jacob Hollister getting
tackled at the one inch line. Hey, look, you were the first person to back Gucci Garoppolo the way that you did. You were all over the forty niners and they put it together this year. So congratulations to you and Gucci, thank you, thank you. I hopefully Gucci wins a super Bowl, maybe he wins a championship. I mean he's a winner. Let's slow it down a little bit
here invention. I don't know if the forty Niners are ready to win a super Bowl yet, But who's scary in the NFCS Not not getting a top seed, not getting a bye in the first round. Here, the wild card round, I think obviously hurts the New Orleans Saints. They don't have um home field advantage throughout the course of the NFL playoffs. But they're still a really good team. Man Drew Brees, Michael Thomas breaking records out here. Defense is playing well also, so uh, there's scary. They're a
scary team. We will see. Uh. I think the NFC, actually, I think the entire playoffs is pretty wide open right now. But I mentioned that we were going to talk about that wild Card weekend being set up. I do just kind of want to want to run through the schedule of these games. Venture this was the lack of the century.
We always know that the Houston Texans played that first game wild Card Weekend four thirty every single year, doesn't matter who they're facing, And of course it is against another team that you were touting this season, the Buffalo bill So that will be your first game on Saturday, the Buffalo Bills traveling to take on the Houston Texans. The Tennessee Titans will be the night game, going up
against the New England Patriots. And I'll say this, the Tennessee Titans the way that they are playing right now, and I mentioned this last week with Greg. I said if I were a playoff team, I wouldn't want to see the Tennessee Titans right now. They don't have the best defense. They have a bend but don't break defense is actually a lot like the New England Patriots have been for years. Patriots defense was a lot better this year, but the Patriots normally don't have a an elite defense.
Ben but don't break defense good against the run, That's that's what the Titans are. But with that offense right now, Derrick Henry running the way that he is, a J Brown, Ryan Tannehill, the Tennessee Titans are gonna be a tough out here against the New England Patriots. And I see some money already coming in on the Tennessee Titans because that spread has dropped from five and a half to five. Anything interest you there these first two games. So I
honestly think this Tennessee New England. Game might be the toughest for me to call because they're one of the hottest teams, if not the hottest team to come in the playoffs Tennessee. Right, they've won one, two, three, four, five out of their last seven. It lost two in a row against Houston New Orleans, that big game against Houston that could have won the division, but they're still hot. Those are tough games, right, Those are tough games. So, uh,
that spreads tough. But I do like the Bills, and like I said, I've been telling the Bills pretty much all yeah. I love Josh Allen thought Josh it will take a big step up this year, which he did. Uh, he's still not quite there yet. This team is a little young, so it scares me. But at plus three, maybe I buy the half of point, make it three and a half. I kind of like that, uh to win the game outright, I might put a little money on it, because I do think they could win this game.
You're right, Houston every year, I got this four o'clock game on Saturday every single year, every single year, and they usually lose it. So I think, uh, I think Buffalo definitely has a shot to beat this team, and I think I think they will. I think I think it comes down to that that the Buffalo wins this game outright, I don't know about closer Chris Venture. Even more money coming in on Tennessee Titans. According to the Vandal Sports Book, I saw this open up at plus
five and a half of Tennessee. Now down to plus four and a half. So people are hammering the Tennessee Titans right now against the New England Patriots. That's what scares me. Everyone's gonna be on the Titans. It kind of scares me, right, It's you know, everyone remembers what they see last, right, So the last image we have is Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Miami Dolphins going into New England and knocking off the Patriots. The Patriots for a
seventeen point favorite. They lost the game the Dolphins one. Outright. What was the money line on the Dolphins, man, I should have looked it up at fourhanded. It had to be. I look as a seventeen point plus plus nine hundred thousand. Probably. Yeah, it's crazy though. Sunday, This Sunday, uh the NFC Divisional Round, the NFC wild Card Round, the Minnesota Vikings at the New Orleans Saints. That will be your one o'clock game.
The Seattle Seahawks at your Philadelphia Eagles. That game is at for forty the spread in those games as of now, the Saints are laying eight points at home. I like the total in that game. I like that game going over forty eight on. The Seahawks are laying one and a half points on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles. Again, the Eagles are dealing with a ton of injuries, so uh, we'll see who's gonna be able to suit up in
that game for the Eagles. Seattle too, of course I had a I had a Cowboys playoff tickets, so yeah, great, thanks thanks Cowboys. How is it's it's two o'clock right now on the East coast? Jason Carrott still has a job. What's going on? Well, Kurt said it before, what is going on? Jones loves his guys. Jones loves guys, gonna try to do. I mean, something's gotta happen here. If you haven't heard the news, where are you? You live under a rock? Freddy Kitchens is out in Cleveland, Patch
Strmer is out for the New York Giants. I know that you are a Giants fan. We're hearing some rumors about Matt Rule, Ron Rivera, Ron Rivera meeting with Washington as well, Josh McDaniels. Is that what you want? Do you want Josh McDaniels coaching your franchise? I mean, I feel like it's better than a lot of what's out there right now. This guy's flaky, man, I know, I mean, I don't. I really don't like any of the any
of the options Rivera. I feel like Rivera could do a good job, but I don't think you could do a good job with Gettleman. There history together in Carolina. I don't know. I saw a report Dave Gettleman has to improve his batting average. That's what That's what the Marras are saying. Well, wrong, sport, Buddy good try. I guess um the Panthers apparently looking at Mike McCarthy as well. The Matt Rule thing would hurt because I wanted the
New York Jets to sign Matt Rule. He stayed at Baylor this year, and of course he's done a phenomenal job at the collegiate level. He hasn't been a coach head coach at the NFL level, but I think that would be an interesting one of the Browns. This is I like this because we could segue this into talking about the quarterbacks next segment. The Browns have requested to meet with O. C. Eg Roman of the Baltimore Ravens. That is interesting for Lamar Jackson heading into next year,
and I will tell you why after the break. This is the Fantasy best Friends Forever right here, live on the Sports Grade TV Network. I want to be the next Daily Fantasy Millionaire. Welcome back to the Fantasy bfs live on the Sports Grade TV network. That is the Closer. Chris Ventra, I am Frank Stanfeld. No Greg Susman I mentioned he is out in Lauderdale, hanging with his mom, playing some bingo. I do have a quick story for everybody. Greg Sussman called me Sunday morning and tells me you'll
never believe what happened to me last night. He was out drinking with Judy, his new wife, Congratulations, and he says somebody comes up to him, a stranger and says, me and my buddies are talking about how old you are, and we have an over under on how old we think that you are. He said this to Greg Sussman, So I'm not making this up. He'll tell you the story when he comes back. These were just people in a bar for Lauderdale. I don't think you knew them.
I wasn't paying enough attention. What else is new? He tells me that they set the over I'll ask you first, so what do you think? And this has been a this has been a long running joke here on the BFS. I say, Greg Sussman looks like an old man. He acts like an old man. What do you think that the over under they set for Greg Sussman's age was. I would say there the thirty eight thirty seven very close.
They said thirty six and a half they come up to Greg Shutsman, they say, the over under for your age is thirty six and a half, which is crazy because I mean normally, I say it because of the way that Greig acts, not personality. They said like, oh, yeah, there's your hair looks old. I'm like, I never I never said that your hair looks old. What does that mean his hair? I didn't think his hair looks bad. I just thought then the way that Greig carries himself,
you know it's he's he's more mature than the average. Yeah. Yeah, you know, the guy goes to mind early at night. Yeah he's not like the closer goes home and plays Fortnite, and you know, Greg Susman hasn't played video games since he was five years old. So yeah, he's like an adult. He's just you know, he's a he's a mature gentleman. That's that's how that's what we'll call it. So he's
out playing Bengo, he's cleaning his monocle. He's not here until Thursday is the next time that Craig will be back, and that is the day that I will be gone. So we'll be reunited on Friday. Venture I mentioned I want to recap this year's top finishers at each position. Let's go over the quarterbacks first and foremost. Here, four point passing touchdowns half PPR. That's the way that you should be playing fantasy football. If you play in a six point passing touch on league or a full PPR league,
you should probably look into change again. I just you you don't like full point PPR. I don't like full point PPR because if you catch a screen pass for zero yards, you should not be awarded a full point for that. That is my opinion that you didn't do anything. You called the ball. I could catch the ball too, you know you didn't. There was no skill involved catch a ball for zero yards. You shouldn't get a full point for that. So in me, in my opinion, I
think that over values wide receivers as well. Um so I'm not really it's a full PPR like half PPR. More in four point passing touchdowns. Here were your top twelve quarterbacks. We have a little graphic downstairs. If the gentleman downstairs and the pit can throw that up for me. Number one Lamar Jackson, of course, the most fantasy points per game of all time. Number two Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, DeShawn Watson, Jamis Winston. After yesterday, so fitting throws a
walk off pick six. First player in NFL history with thirty touchdowns and thirty interceptions. Guess how much money he wants to make this allseason? Thirty million dollars. The jokes on you. Jamis Winston number six, Josh Allen number seven, Patrick Mahomes eight, Kyler Murray nine, Aaron Rodgers ten, Carson Wentz eleven, Matt Ryan number twelve, t F B tom
Efan Brady go. According to Fantasy pros ADP, I looked us up before the show venture, five of these top twelve quarterbacks were drafted out of the top top twelve a DP before the season. That would include Lamar Jackson, jack Prescott, Jamis Winston, Josh Allen, and Kyler Murray. Makes sense. I mentioned that Gregor Roman leaving the Baltimore Roavens potentially leaving UH. The Cleveland Browns have requested to interview Gregor Roman for their head coaching vacancy. Nobody knows if he's
gonna leave or not. I know. Mark Ingram set out a tweet saying fail, Well, it hasn't happened, yet mark Ingram would slow down a little bit. Uh. I have Lamar Jackson as a serious regression candidate going into next year, like for for obvious reasons, right, you know, you were just about to bring up Patrick Mahomes, and I think that's a great place to start. Mahomes last year eight point six percent touchdown rate, this year five point four percent.
He regressed by nearly by over three percent. Touchdown rate is the rate of how many of your past attempts go for touchdowns. In the NFL SO league averages right around four and a half percent. If you're an elite quarterback, you can consistently go for over six percent, maybe seven percent. Lamar Jackson this year is at nine percent. That is astronomical. The rushing production is likely going to be there, although
if he loses Greg Roman. Roman has been the o C of Tyrod Taylor Colin Kaepernick in their career, so he knows how to get the most out of mobile quarterbacks. There's no I don't want to take anything away from Lamar Jackson. If people who are listening watching this thinking, oh, you're just a hater Lamar Jackson, that's not true. I drafted Lamar Jackson, you want me money this year, and if it weren't for him going in the first or second round next year, I would like to draft him again.
But because of that, I think that he is going to be a prime regression candidate in I will not draft him in the first two rounds. What say you, I'm with you. I mean, I think it's just obvious. You know, he's done so much that how could he not regress. We saw happy with Pat Mahomes, who had a ridiculous season. We didn't think we'd see a season like that again from anybody. We thought, Wow, look at this guy, first first full season playing and he's breaking
records touchdowns. Now, here's the obvious thing. Here's the thing that stands out. This is why you're right. Four hundred one pass attempts, okay, and he's not gonna pass the ball a lot. It's gonna be around four hundred fifty tops. Most quarterbacks that throw the ball a lot talking about six hundred plus. So he had thirty six touchdowns, that was most in the league. That's passing, that's not including rushing. That's very hard to do. And you know, touchdowns are
kind of a fickle thing. So for sure, I just see the passing touchdown regression to be heavy. Maybe he rushes for a few more because he had seven, he bounces out a little bit more. But there could even be some regression on the rushing side. No, I mean he ran for yardage, that's a lot of He was six in the NFL and rushing. He had a freak athlete. The things that Lamar Jackson could do, it is uncanny. But you've got to realize that heading into next season,
people are gonna scheme for him differently. They're gonna play more dbs on the field. They're gonna try and get more speed on the field in order to track him down and not let him break off these huge chunk rushing plays. They're gonna scheme for Lamar Jackson a little bit differently. So everyone looks at what he did this year. He just had the most Fantasy points by a quarterback in NFL history. Venture realized this. He played fifteen games.
What he did was historical. It was amazing. He just averaged the most fantasy points per game in NFL history. Seven point anyone for any anyone. This is in standard leagues. In PPR, that would be Marshall Folk in two thousand average thirty two point eight five in standard leagues. Lamar Jackson just average nearly twenty fantasy points. That was the most in NFL history. But he is a prime regression candidate.
You can't just look at what he did this year and say, oh, well, I'm gonna expect that production again next year. He's worth of being a top five pick. Greg Susman, I hope that you are out in Florida listening right now, because Lamar Jackson is not going to repeat what he did this year for many reasons touchdown regression. Greg Roman might not be there uh the league. I
think he's gonna scheme for him differently. I want to go to the other side of this, a positive touchdown regression candidate and somebody who everyone's gonna be excited about. I can already see the hype getting out of control. It's what is it. It's the it's December nine time we are drafting August one. The hype on Kyler Murray is going to be out of control. Ventra, I'm telling you that right now because he just finishes QB eight
as a rookie. As a rookie, this guy ran for over five hundred yards second one quarterbacks with five four rushing yards behind Lamar Jackson. And he had a touchdown rate of three point seven percent in so if we're just talking about statistical regression, he's up he league averages four and a half. If he had a league average touchdown rate, he would have had four more touchdown passes this year, and he would have finished a the QB six as a rookie. This guy is going to get
better now. You can I just play Devil's advocate and say teams are gonna start to scheme for Kyler Murray and and that's fair. You know he's gonna lose some rushing yardage, but I think that the passing yardage and the passing touchdowns are going to go up. Second year with Cliff Kingsbury. They run high octane offense, and I frankly, I think that they're gonna surround him with better weapons.
I think Isabella is gonna get more involved. Dan Arnold has come on late this season here for the Cardinals, Christian Kirk, I think they probably draft another wide receiver, signed somebody, or you know, Kim Butler will be back for this thing. Will be the running back. Maybe maybe if they resign him. I think the sky is gonna be the limit for Kyler Murray. The problem ventures everyone else is gonna think so he's gonna I think he's gonna be againting drafted too high. Way want to draft
the quarterback. This is the fact of the matter is at quarterback that I know you want these guys, but there's just too many good ones. My plan before we head to the break, I'll tell you this is what you should do next. This is what I did this. You draft the cheapest quarterback that runs the ball a lot, because they'll give you a nice floor. That was Josh and you were all over Josh Owen and what else see you? Yeah, So you do something like that, I think it'll pay off. I don't think you want to
pay up to too much. You're right to Kyl Miley in for a big yaoute. I agree. Everyone's gonna be all over Kyler Murray. We'll put a bow on the quarterback discussion when we come back. Move over to the running backs as well. You are watching the Fantasy BFS live on the Sports Grade TV network. Don't go anywhere, We'll be right back. I want to be the next Daily Fantasy Millionaire. New Jersey only. Eligibility restrictions apply. See website for details. Welcome back to the Fantasy BFFs. I am Frank Stamfle, joined by the Closer Chris Ventra No Greg Susman today or tomorrow. He's out gallop vanting in Florida right now,
he's in Fort Lauderdale. I mentioned I wanted to put a little bow on the quarterback position when we came back, and I remember telling everybody my advice on the quarterback position coming into draft season was I was targeting, and I know a lot of people don't like to draft two quarterbacks, but I would take one safe quarterback and I would take one upside quarterback. I did this in my NFFC league that I shared with my buddy Constantine,
who was in the chat. Shout out, Shout out to Constantine, Shout out to the shout out to the whole chat, Shout out to the goon squad while we're at it as well, and we drafted Tom Brady and Lamar Jackson. It worked out perfectly well. Now, of course you have to hit on that upside quarterback, but the upside quarterbacks coming into this year venture were Dak Prescott, Jameis Winston,
Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray. Like the fantasy in the tree is very sharp nowadays, and a lot of people kind of realized who these upside quarterbacks were the only difference that I will make heading into next year. And I've said this, I'm gonna do it at the tight end position, at the quarterback position. I don't care about wasting my bench spots. Everyone says I want to load up on running backs and wide receivers on my bench. False. What
I'm gonna do. I'm gonna draft two upside quarterbacks and two upside tight ends late in every one of my drafts, and I think, based on our knowledge, we'll be able to hit on one of each of those between a quarterback and a tight end. If you did that this year, you would have wound up with a Mark Andrews, with a Darren Waller, and the same thing at the quarterback position. So that's what I'm gonna be doing heading into next year.
You know, whether the hype guys are Daniel Jones or Joe Burrow or Sam Donald in his third year if he could take that next step, or finding another quarterback that can make plays with his legs. Whoever it might be, um, but that is gonna be the strategy for me heading into quarterback position and just say two upside quarterbacks late so bigly one that could make plays with his legs. I agree with you there, Yeah, just so you have
that nice floor. I think at this point in time and fantasy used to maybe in a standard twelve team league. Not standard, but I mean like typical twelve team league. Uh, you're not drafting a backup quarterback always, like if you drift down Rogers. Now I drifting a backup normally, but yeah, you would have had to this year if you had Rogers because he didn't really get it done as a
QB one for the most part consistently this year. So I think having two quarterbacks is fine, and I think you should do that because you could have your upside guy with legs, you know, so like a Josh Allen. You might be worried. I was worried about drifting Josh Allen this year had scared me. You don't want him as a QB one. So I took Golf. Now that didn't work. Josh Allen saved me. So that's why you got the two took similar to me, you know, I
took Brady in and Lamar Jackson. You took Josh Allen and and golf and it worked out, right, It worked out. So that's why I think instead of just wasting that roster spot on the veteran next year for the safe guy like a Jared Goff. You thought he was safe, Brady ended up being fine. I never used him because I had Lamar Jackson. Just take two upside guys. You could do that, yeah, and just hope one of them hits it. I mean, you give yourself a higher percentage
of hitting the more upside quarterbacks that you draft. So I'm with you. I think Daniel Jones is gonna be one that people are gonna be really all over because he can make some plays with his legs. He has a solid supporting cast. They should improve the offensive line in the off season. I we'll see what happens. You donna have a bite. Twenty six touchdowns, twelve picks total. I mean, yeah, did you really throw? He threw ran
for two Wow. I mean that is pretty impressive. He didn't even play what the first two games of the year. What do you do coming in the third, fourth game? Yeah, So yeah, that is pretty impressive. Man. I think Daniel Jones is gonna be one of those players heading into next year. There's so many you could wait, there's not as many. It's actually kind of scarce, but you get a lot of good ones late. Right, you can find those guys this year was kled. You're gonna find the
no offense next year. T J. Hockenson. Those are gonna be players that we know. They have pedigree, they have talent, they got the experience. You're hoping that their role is expanded. Excuse me, So between No and and and Hockinson, I brought up you know, John hu Smith I think is gonna be an interesting name next year. And Thomas. I think Tyler Higbie would have been in that mix. But he's just been so good. I think he's kind of he's gonna be a tough past past that, he's gonna
be a top ten tight end draft. I mean the end of the season a half point, people like you said, crazy, five straight games with at least und yards or a touchdown. Yesterday, Oh my god, he didn't get to a hundred yards, doesn't matter. He had eight yards and a touchdown. The monster insane. So I think Tyler would have been in that group, but he's he's done a lot for himself, and because of that, he's gonna be drafted as a
top ten, maybe even a top eight tight end. I think the strategy with tight end is a little similar to wide receiver. But the thing is you have much less guys to choose from, so you want to go for a tight end that I think gets a lot of targets in the system that they're in, like Waller. A lot of people predicted rightly that Waller would be a big hit because tight end. Yeah, the year before
it was Jared Cook Exactly, targets are king. I think with tight end, you know you get with any position, with any pass catching position or any targets are king. But it's harder to what wide receivers. Sometimes it's hard to find who's gonna get a lot of targets who's not at tight end. If you know he's a big party system or if you know the receivers aren't great around him, you know he's gonna get a lot of targets, a lot of receptions and a half point PPR PPRF format.
You're gonna get consistent points. I give you a hot take right now at the tight end position, I know the system you should be avoiding at all costs. You ready for this Bruce Arian system? He killed me all yeah, Howard Man, I mean everybody else was on it except me. Well you're doing Frank god I. Arians doesn't use the tight end, and I still took O. J. Howard to So talents. Don't draft O J. Howard, don't draft Camera Breake, do not draft a tight end of Bruce Arian system.
It's interesting about how you know. I still think Howard is really good. I still think he's one of the most talented guys. Everything went wrong for him though, because he struggled earlier on in the season, and then he was in Bruce arians dog house. He wasn't playing. Cameron Braid started eating into his playing time. They started using O. J. Howard Moore as a blocker. Again, the targets weren't there.
Chris Godwin broke out, Mike Evans was amazing at the end of the season, Brashad Perriman broke out, and on top of all of that, Bruce Arians doesn't like to use tight ends, so it was just a recipe for designs. Thing went wrong for O. J. How and Howard move. I heard I'm here to pu up his contract situation, but I believe he's still under contract. I'm here rumblings that he might get traded to New England. Well, that's what people were talking about at the deadline, and would
be Tampa Bay shot everything down. They're like, no, we're not We're not doing moving o J. Howard, which I understand. They used a top I believe, top ten pick, top fifteen pick onward. It was a first round pick on J. Howard. The Tampa Bay Bucks invested a lot of draft capital in O. J. How so they shouldn't give up on him. But at the same time, you gotta use the guy, right, so trade him for some stock, get some stock back for him. And what are they gonna get from though
you gotta second round pick. What would they really though? Maybe failed tight end prospects so far not failed. Yeah, he's still young, and yeah he was. He was really good last year. That's why you know, everyone thought he was gonna break Bruce. He is under contract through through, so it was under free. Please somebody comes SA If New England gets him, I say, he goes into top eight tight end territory. Even more than that, yeah, maybe even higher. I mean, look with New England. They're gonna
have decisions to make too. I mean, we say this every year, but it is becoming a question as to whether or not Tom Brady is gonna be back with this team. It really is. I don't know that he's gonna be back, so interesting, we'll see what happens. Let's throve over to the runn back position. We'll kind of preview this before we hit the break here and just let you know the top twelve finishers in half PPR in the fantasy football season. Of course, Christian McCaffrey was
number one, Completely ridiculous. How about this venture. He had a hundred and twenty two point nine more fantasy points than the second running back that was closest to him, which Jones. Aaron Jones finished is the RB two. CMC had a hundred and twenty two point nine more points than him, and half PPR think about this. Duke Johnson finished with a hundred and thirty two fantasy points himself. Christian McCaffrey was an RB one and a flex running
back combined in terms of his fantasy output. It's just completely ridiculous. I understand that from year to year it's kind of hard to repeat being the number one overall player in fantasy football or at the running back position. But he's done it two years in rows. I can't see how you can go anybody go with anybody outside of Christian McCaffrey barring some kind of like crazy offseason
surgery or injury. When it comes to McCaffrey, Your RB two I referenced him, Aaron Jones, then Derrick Henry Ezekiel. Elliott hasn't finished below RB five in any season he has been in the league seventeen. I'll use fantasy points per game because he only played ten games due to suspension. He finishes RB three in Fantasy points per game. Uh in tween here, he's so safe. Your number five running back Dalvin Cook, then Austin Ekeler, Nick Chub, mark Ingram
Leonard four Nette. I was wrong about four net for sure, Sae Kwon Barkley, Chris Carson, and Alvin Kamara. How about this. Alvin Kamara has exactly eighty one receptions in each season he's been in the NFL, exactly eighty one wild that's safe. That's safe. That that's consistency. Right there, You're gonna be able to get Kamara at a discount next year, late
first round pick, mid to late first round picks. And if you look at his yardage, the only thing that came back was his touchdowns, and that's a fickle thing. It's hard to predict us. His first two seasons, he had at least thirteen total touchdowns. We knew at some point that that was gonna come down. But this year, for example, I'll pull this up for you, it was he had what do he had like six seven touchdowns total? Had six. He finished with five rushing and one receiving.
So he had six touchdowns, which still isn't horrible, but he had a three in one game in this offense, he should have had more, but he had three in one game also. And if you remember, there was a lot of weeks where he had touchdowns called back. I remember the Tampa Bay came comes to mind. Over this final month he had he had two or three touchdowns called back due to penalty. So if he finished the season with nine total touchdowns, we're talking about this completely different.
He's a top six seven running back once again. So the touchdowns, yes, they're hard to predict. I mean, that's why we say it every single year. Davantae Adams. Each of the past two three seasons was up over double digit touchdowns. This year he didn't score week eleven or week twelve, so you know, touchdowns are really hard to predict. And Camar just to say how efficient he still is? Four point seven yards per carry on the ground on
a hundred seventy one touches. He should get more touches, I think too, but the eighty one catches and five three yards, so he's doing everything else great. I will say this, does it worry you that his yard per touch has gone down every season he's been in the NFL seven point seven as a rookie, five point eight in year two, five point three in year three. I'm not worried. You're not worried about it. He was badly injury as well. Let's talk more about the running back position.
Maybe we'll get to the wide receivers as well. You're watching the Fantasy BFS live on the Sportscred TV network. That's Chris. I am Frank will be back right after this. Welcome back to the Fantasy best Friends Forever, that is the Closer. Chris Ventra, host of The Fantasy Football Frenzy. I am Frank Stanfeld. You're watching the Fantasy bfs right here on the Sports Cred TV network. Get on the grid. I wanted to uh kind of talk about some more
of these running backs here the top twelve finishers. We went over it before the break and I mentioned how great Christian McCaffrey was this year, mentioned Ezekiel Elliott how consistent he has been in his NFL career so far. Alvin Kamara has been extremely consistent as well. I think you'll get him at a bit of a discount. I didn't want to mention this and get your thoughts on
it as well. Venture four running backs inside the top twelve this year had under forty receptions and half half PPR Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram, Nick Chubb, and Chris Carson. This is the most since two thousand and sixteen, the most running backs UH to finish inside the top twelve with under forty receptions. Now, these are guys that dominate carries for their team. They come from great rushing offenses. UH, they dominate red zone work as well, so they score
a lot of touchdowns. So they were safe in that regard. And obviously that's how you identify the running backs that you can draft who don't catch passes. It's, you know, it's guys that have to get it done in touch in a touchdown department and and with the big chunk plays. And that's exactly what Derrick, Henry, Ingram, Chub, and Carson
were all able to do. What is your biggest takeaway from that heading into the season, Because I feel like more often than not, fantasy analysts and it's the entire industry people kind of shy away from players like this because they don't catch passes. Everyone plays in either half PPR or full PPR nowadays. There's a lesson to be learned from this. E Y spoke a lot about this throughout the course of the season. He said, fantasy points are fantasy points. I don't care how you give them
to me. Yeah, touchdowns might be a little flukey, But when when you're the only running back on your team that's getting that red zone work, is it really that flukey? I would say with running backs like this, it wasn't flukey. So what's your biggest takeaway from this? So? Yeah, I think the thing is you have to understand is as we think as analysts, with thinking in a half point in a full point PPR, you're looking at the running backs.
If they could do both run and catch the passes, they give you a safer floor for consistency throughout the season. That's the idea. The problem is you could have a Derrick Henry who's consistent without doing that. Consistency can come from a running back who doesn't catch passes. And that was my big mistake this year. I was touting all guys that catch passes and not guys that don't because the first year I hopped off Henry because I do like Henry because he's a freak, but word means he
doesn't catch passing. Michelle Michelle worried because he doesn't catch passes. Now, they do have these low flaws at times, but if they're in a system, the right system, you know, they run the ball a lot. You're the RB one like Derrick Henry is. You know, I get in touches stolen from you. All that counts. So a lot of it
is opportunity and where you are. But it taught me the lesson that I can't just stay away from guys that don't catch passes when they're the main running back on their team and they're a good quality running back, a true old school running runner, you know what I mean, without catching passes. I was buying into that too much this year, and I think for the past few years I was. So I learned something this year, and I will buy back into Derrick Henry next yet and guys
like Nick Chubb. As long as there's not people taking away too many touches from them, I think those guys will still be at the top of the game. Yeah, that's the biggest takeaway. And I agree with you right like you could identify We easily could have identified this before the season. We didn't. We knew that Dean Lewis was not gonna have a big role in this Titans offense. While they were talking about all preseason was how this team was going to run through. The offense was gonna
run through Derrick Henry. He was gonna be the workhorse you know people were talking about. But you're having this monster season. I'll tell you the only reason why I got off Derrick Henry was because he had an injury during the during training game during preseason. I believe you
had a hamstring injury. Normally, when you see something like that, when you see it was either hamstring or calf, right, But either way, whenever you see a soft tissue injury like that before the season even starts for a running back, nine times out of ten, that is something that lingers all season long. So that's why I was off Derrick Henry. I mean, I knew that he was gonna be the guy for his team. I just I got off of him for a different reason, ultimately the injury being there.
But I mean, look at the running backs that we did like this year because we thought that they were gonna catch passes, David Johnson, James conn Or Levi on Bell right, we also, oh, these guys are gonna catch a ton of passes this year for their respective teams, and they didn't show up, and they didn't show up Ultimately, Soler, did I think that you will be able to identify those players, like, for example, Josh Jacobs next year, I think he's capable of catching passes. John Gruden and the
Oakland Raiders offense hasn't used him that way yet. But even if he catches thirty to forty passes next year, he is someone that is going to consistently see close to twenty touches and he's gonna dominate red zone usage for the Oakland Raiders. Like There's no other running back on that team that I'm scared of. I believe DeAndre Washington's a free agent too, and they shouldn't cut into his time anyway, because he had a fantastic season. I mean full point eight yards per carry. Uh. He had
fifty total yadds on the ground, beautiful. Uh. The only thing he lacked in was yet even touchdowns. You want to see a little more. But like we say, next year, you could have twelve. Would you be surprised? No, you're not, because it just so happened. He had seven this year, but twenty seven targets that's where you want to see the improvement. You want to see closer to fifty to sixty targets. I'm hoping forty catches. The guy can catch the ball. He showed it. You already talking. You're already
doing the reception thing again. Venture Look, you're already doing it again. See you falling into the same trap. You're falling into the same trap once again. He's the RB one. So, like you said, even if he ends up with thirty catches, thirty five catches, I'm happy with Josh Jacobs to me as a solid RB two that I'll draft. If he does that, he's gonna he's gonna go high. I don't know. Because the talent is there, we've seen it. And the guy who's playing with a fractured shoulder too. So he's
gonna be an RB one. We talked. I think he's gonna be a low nd RB one drafted. He's gonna be a solid second round pick. Believe that. Would you buy into him as your r B one, your first drafted running back, Well, it'll always depend on who you take in the first round. But yeah, if I got like a Dre Hopkins in round one, if you start de Hop Josh Jacobs, that's pretty good, or even like, look, it's early ADP. We don't know where these guys are
gonna go. But if Josh Jacobs slips to the end of the second round, if you could start your draft, Michael Thomas, Josh Jacobs, that's amazing. That is beautiful. Yeah, I mean that is great. But why do I feel like kind of uncomfortable as Josh Jacob says my RB one. Maybe that's just me and I shouldn't feel it. Might be the recessions thing again, man, maybe telling you like it might just go something. It's so ingrained. It's your brain, and a lot of people think that way because you're right.
When you catch passes as a running back, it does raise your floor, right because you know, even if you don't do a lot with those passes, if you say you run it inefficiently one day, or you know you don't have high yards per carry, you don't get a lot of yardage on the ground, or you don't score a touchdown. At least if you catch four or five passes for thirty forty y helps your floor. I mean, come on here, what you're saying, Mar is a great example.
This year, regress severely and touchdowns right, uh, and didn't carry the ball ton like he normally doesn't. Still finish RB twelve because he So that's what it brings to the table. If you could get a guy that could do both. The problem is you gotta be careful to guys like Duke Johnson who's not getting any carries on the ground, only getting stuff through the air. And it's not always consistent, you know, it's hard to find. Yeah, but is kind of a satellite back himself. But but
he's just a freak dude. He's just really but the way that he does it is just it's insane. And that'll be in a situation to pay attention to in the all season because Melvin Gordon is the free agent. So if Austin Ekeler has his back field to himself, man, you're talking about him as you know, a first round pick as well. Yeah, at least maybe the worst early second round. Yeah, he would probably be at that turn, right at that turn. Yeah, and I would touch it. Yeah.
And again look just to put a bow on the running backs that don't catch passes. Again, it's hard to it's hard to trust it completely. But I think for the most part, you know, when those guys are gonna be the main backs in their backfield. We knew that about Chubb, We knew that about Henry for the most part, we knew that about Josh Jacobs. When you have that combination of talent and Jacobs has a great offensive line,
Derrick Henry has a great offensive line. The Browns didn't, but opportunity Chub is that great of a talent where you know he was able to exceed that. UM. I think it'll be easier to kind of point out those running backs heading into the two, like third, third, fourth round picks this year. Think about it. They all went in kind of that area except for Chubb. Yeah, but Carson Henry all third round picks because of their you know, they're not able to catch those passes and now look
what they are. The thing is, will you go back into the well and draft these like, why would you drift Derrick Henry? Now you're paying up for him, that's the problem. Now you gotta pay for him coming off a season where he's gonna regress from or at least we think, because he's not gonna have however, you know, touchdowns again rushing, which he could do, but he carries. I mean, I don't know. It's he could regress pretty easily.
Look here, he had sixteen rushing and two receiving. The guy had eight team receptions and two of those went for touchdowns. He had eighteen total touchdowns. So you have to imagine that's gonna that number is gonna come back a little bit. But you're right, you'd you'd end up paying for what might be a career year for Derrick Henrys. Are gonna be all talking points throughout the course of the off season, um heading into the Fantasy football Draft.
I didn't want to get your thoughts on this because I know that you're a big Dalvin Cook guy. And I said this last week and I started to look a little bit more into it. But I think Kareem Hunt is gonna leave the Cleveland Browns. I don't think he's gonna be back with this team. He's a restricted free agent. I think some team is going to sign Kareem Hunt to starter money and I don't think that the Cleveland Browns are going to match whatever contract offer
he gets. Don't need to do makes sense. They have Nick Chubb. You know they can find uh you know, uh supplementary running back in the draft, or you know, maybe it's Doncharle Hilliard, whatever it might be. I think Kareem Hunt will be gone. And last week I said, if he has gone, I would take Nick Chubb over Dalvin Cook next year as a top five pick. And I know that you are a You're a Dalvin Cook guy.
And I thinks, like, I think it's close, Like you're literally nitpicking between Cook and Chubb here because they're both super talented. But for me, I look at what Nick Chubb did this year and the fact that all we kept talking about was that his offensive line wasn't great. The Browns offense was dysfunctional, it wasn't great either wasn't good at all. And he for half the season he had Kareem Hunt and he still finishes the RB seven. He nearly led the league in rushing if it wasn't
for Derrick Henry going off again yesterday. He did all that under the circumstances that he was in. Right, I think that he has higher upside than than Dalvin Cook. I think it's so close. I think the differences and this is what washes each other out, is that Dalvin Cooks has this injury history now because now it's been three years in a row. We got injured at the end of the season this year. But he showed what
he could bring to the table and how good he is. Chubb, his only flow is that he doesn't catch a ton of passes. Cream Hunt became that specialist. I'm happy himself. He might right, and he's a great runner, and he's just super talented. Both these guys super talent. I think you can't go wrong either way. The thing is the injury history lingers in your mind with Dalvin Cook. But I have a bit of taste from Chubb. In Week sixteen, douted it from me and that kind of left a
bit of taste in my mouth. Uh yeah, the clothes. That doesn't forget five fantasy points for me. So but listen, I just like Dalvin Cook. So I think it's a preference thing. I think it's really that close. They're both gonna be there, guys, They're both gonna get a ton of touches. I just think I think the upside is almost exactly the same, and I also think the floor is similar. I think maybe Cook's floor is a little higher,
just because they'll catch more passes. Once again, I'm going back to this, but I had to break out of it. It's a little higher for that reason. You know, I don't know how many passes Chubb is gonna catch. You know, I'm happy you brought up the targets and receptions because for these two Dalvin Cook on the season had fifteen percent of the target chair for the Minnesota Vikings. In games that Nick Chubb played without Kareem Hunt, he had a twelve percent target share, So he wasn't far off.
I mean, we're talking about over the course of a full season, Nick Chubb. If Kareem Hunt wasn't there. Remember Kareem Hunt came in and soaked up all the running back targets and receptions. If he's not there, Nick Chubb probably finishes the season with close to fifty receptions, maybe even more than fifty receptions. He could be a true elite work he can. And you know, I looked at these advanced numbers that we like to use the analytics for running backs, and Chubb was first in breakaway runs
those are runs of more than fifteen yards. First in yards created This comes according to Player Profiler. Second in yards after contact per attempt. That's from Pro Football Focus second in avoided tackles. So Nick Chubb has the ability to break out long runs make opposing defenders miss, and Dalvin Cook can do that as well, but the numbers at lie he doesn't do it as good. Six and breakaway runs fourth in yards created, sixteenth in yards after
contact per attempt, tied for eighth in avoided tackles. So look, this is what we're gonna have to do next year. We're gonna have to split hairs. You don't you don't want to get your first round pick wrong because we were doing this this year for you know, David Johnson versus Ezekie Elliott, and if you chose the wrong one, you were screwed. Then you were screwed. I don't think in this case, if they're both healthy, I don't think you could go wrong. Maybe because of the healthy Chub
you take over call. Yeah, I owe either way you're you're going. I'm getting the closer in on the Chub. I'm getting the closer give him ub. I know you heard the promo a million times from spitting speeds, give the closer all of the Chubb. I want to take Chubb as well. Man top five pick for me in We'll be back. We'll wrap up the show.
