Family Secrets is a production of I Heart Radio. I'm Danny Shapiro, and this is family Secrets, the secrets that are kept from us, the secrets we keep from others, and the secrets we keep from ourselves. I've heard from so many about your own family secrets and realize that what we are creating for each other on this podcast is a community, a community for those who are looking

for a safe and supportive space to unburden themselves. To that end, we've created a number for listeners to call in to record stories to share here in this space. This week, I'd like to share a few of those stories from our community. Thanks for listening. Hi, um Mom would just want to share my family secrets. I was either four or five, and I'm fifty five now, but as I was a little girl, woke up milba night, went downstairs to go pee and was grabbed by some

man in the dark. He put his hand over my mouth in the back of my head, so picked me up by my head and he walks me to my parents bedroom and says there's nothing they can do to help you, now, which I well. I he said this. I was looking in at down the sleep I just went lamp. Never remembered any nothing after that. Still to this day do not remember anything like that. So for many, many years I was haunted by this this what happened the spear at eleven? I asked my mom if this happened,

I told her about it. She said no, so okay, so still terrified my whole life. About nine years ago I asked my oldest sister, who has since passed away, about it. She said, well, this is not the story that happened. She said, what how en was? Mom and dad had a party. She said, some man grabbed me and took off with me. And she says, Mom, Dad, somebody's got you know, said my name, somebody's got me. And she said they tackled him, got me away from

this guy. So if that actually that version happened, then it happened twice. This man, whoever he was, came to get me twice. I had no one else to ask now, because both parents are dead. You know, Mom initially denied it, and my only school, you know, my older sister who's dead, said,

you know what happened. But what I do remember was, you know, all through life, you know, if I would be so scared, scared of you know, leaving the house, you know, because he came into my house obviously twice, but I get so scared I would actually literally wake up and not know where I was, no talent, how much time had passed. I you know, my first memory of that happening with me missing time was thirteen. The last time it happened was probably you know, I think

twenty five years ago was the last time. But it only happens when I get severely strussed, and I know, you know, whatever, you know, whatever this happened, whatever this guy did, I don't know, but you know, still to this day at fifty five, still haunts me, and this want to I guess actually voices Hi. I just wanted to share my stories. I had been told live and UM other stories to make me believe that I was the natural child of my parents UM and then also UM.

I come to find out later, much later in life, that my mother, her mother that raised her, was actually her grandmother and she was born to who she believed was her sister. So that was kept hidden from everyone. It someone had brought it to my attention, and next boyfriend of mine UM had brought it to my attention that they look a lot alike, and I never really thought about it much. I had just kind of accepted the story that my grandmother was my grandmother, not my

great grandmother. And then I saw a picture one of um my sister, well my aunts, sorry, and it looked exactly like my mom, and it just all kind of clicked to me at one point that yes, this is

actually her her biological mother. Um. And so that's there's kind of a lot of shame and secrets and things, and my family, um, you know, include myself and my mother included, and my mom and my dad are both deceased now, so the secrets are kind of buried with them, and there's no more information than I can get about what had happened or anything like that. So it's my league story. Hi Danny, Um, I really first of all, I want to thank you guys for putting up this podcast.

I'm a little late at the party and just now getting privy to it. But I want to also admit that I am the family's secret. I I don't know who my biological father is. I've never met him, and as far as everything goes, he doesn't know like this, and I've been on the search for him for about eight months now, I joined a DNA site and nothing nothing fitting. And it's really heavy to be that burden.

And I don't want to cause them any trouble, but I just want them to know that I'm out there and I would like to know what they look like. I want to cause anyone any drama or anything. And you know, as far as like Frank's story goes like, I don't want to uproot anyone's I guess perception of what their reality is. I just want to kind of know a little bit more about me and maybe stuff relating to So thank you very much and I love

your podcast and I will keep listening. If you'd like to share your story, call one eight eight eight Secret zero and record your story. We won't be able to run all the stories, but we do want to shine a light on as many as we can. The number again is one eight eight Secret and then the numeral zero.
