Episode description

New York, the subject of today's State of Roe, has long been a safe harbor for those seeking access to safe and legal abortions, legalizing the right to choose even before Roe v. Wade. State governor Kathy Hochul has emphasized that abortion will remain safe and accessible in New York even after the fall of Roe, with the state updating and codifying its laws in 2019.

Medicaid covers abortion for New York residents and undocumented individuals, extending health care coverage for an individual up to a year after the termination of their pregnancy. The state also has non-extradition rules in place to ensure that abortion providers are not prosecuted for this key service.

If you live in New York, be sure to vote in 2024 in favor of a equality amendment to the constitution that includes the right to abortion.
