Maine is not just the Pine Tree State but a safe one as well. Following the fall of Roe, Governor Janet Mills signed an executive order that safeguards health care providers, patients and abortion access across the state.
As of 1994, Maine law has protected access to abortion in general, with the only requirement that abortion-seekers under the age of majority have the consent of a parent or older family member. Uniquely, Maine requires insurance companies to cover abortion through telemedicine, allowing access to abortive pills if needed.
