Episode description

Ash Wednesday

(February 26th, 2020)

Matthew 6 : 1 - 6, 16 - 18

Homily from Redemptor Mundi Church by Father Filemon de la Cruz Jr, OP

We begin the season of Lent, Lenten season is very simple and bare, it calls us to silence. The call to repentance marked this Lenten season's beauty, in the first reading God calls us, He calls us because He loves us, a love that doesn't want to give up on us even when we gave up on ourselves, it's hard on God's part to wait with patience for us to return. When we sin we are separated with the people we love, sin is destructive. We are sinners, we are far and we are called to journey back. Ash Wednesday is powerful in reminding us for a basic truth that we are all mortals, we forget this when we achieve so many things, it reminds us that life is short. What do we do with the little time that we have with our loveones? like the athletes they have an end game attitude, they give it their best, they give it their all, they prepare and fight for victory. We are invited to be focused and be prepared, do not postpone, because you won't have the opportunity, be more focus and intense. This 40 days is a practice in spiritual life, it invites us to almsgiving, prayer and fasting, they take us away from too much self-indulgents. We fast and say no to ourselves, almsgiving direct us to think of others, prayer teach us to think of God. God call us as His beloved, we are mortals and we need to be focus, and let us enroll in this 40 days of spiritual practice in almsgiving, prayer and fasting.
