Hello, everyone, everywhere. Pastor Bob Thibodeau here. Welcome to the Faith Based Business podcast. Today. We're so blessed that you're joining us. Praise the Lord. Now, we've been talking all week now, in past several sessions, probably watching this on a recording about understanding the power of purposeful storytelling. Okay. In your business and your ministry, whatever it is you're trying to do. Amen. Last time we covered how to incorporate scripture as a foundation of your storytelling.
Now if you missed it, go back and catch up. Okay? Because, you know, today we're going to be talking about. Let me go ahead and share the screen. We'll jump into this. Today we're going to be talking about different ways that, that you can actually engage emotions in your storytelling. And, and that'll provide a lasting impact, often long after the presentation is over. They're going to remember your presentation.
Amen. Glory to God. Now, first, you have to take your audience through the emotional journey of the story. Okay? You have to share the struggles. You have to share the high points, everything you've experienced. You have to give them an insight into your journey that you went on. And this emotional movement helps them to feel the impact of your story more deeply. All right? Then as you share about how the outcome that you achieved made you feel, they'll experience the same feelings.
Amen. Using pace to God. You just can't go rushing into it. Let me tell you about the time I did this, this, this, and this. And boy, did I feel great. Now here's what it's going to do for you. That does nothing. Okay? You have to pace yourself as you're telling the story. You know, if you're talking about experiencing trouble, heartache, you need to slow down. Let the listener, let your audience feel that emotions.
And then as you transition over to the highs, you know, you can get excited about it. Oh, and this was finally going to work. And now this was happening. And this is so great. You can pick the pace up a little bit, but you have to pace yourself to guide your audience. I said pausing just at moments just to let that message resonate for a little bit. Amen. A well paced story will build suspense. It'll emphasize the important points.
It will allow your audience to truly connect with the emotional flow of your message. Now, we've all heard someone tell a story that was long and drawn out. And all we really wanted to say, we didn't, but we were thinking it was. We just get to the point already, right? And the opposite's also true, right? How many times has. Has Someone shared something with us, and they talk like they're on a clock, and it's already ticking down to zero. You know, we can't even remember what the topic was.
We just remember they talked at 100 miles per hour. And, you know, you don't need to do that. You got to pace yourself. Because if you pace yourself, then people will understand what you're saying. Right? Did you get that? Amen. Don't be afraid to express yourself. You know, genuine feelings, whether it's joy, fear, relief, you know, sadness, authentic emotions will make your story more relatable.
Help. It'll help your audience to feel the same thing that you felt, and that'll create that strong emotional bond. If you were worried, if you were concerned. Afraid. Sad. Yes. Happy. You know, make sure you convey those feelings and emotions through the story, through your story. You don't have to say, I was scared or I was happy. Share the story in a way that conveys those emotions with examples. Okay. Say, okay.
As I carefully opened the box, I didn't know what to expect, but then I seen a little puppy looking up at me expectantly. As I share that, you probably felt a little apprehensive there at the very beginning. Right. And then joyful, all in one statement. Right? Because you weren't sure what was in the box, what was going to be. And then everybody loves the look of a little puppy looking up at him. Hey, man. Oh, don't shut me down when I'm preaching. Good. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah.
All right, so that's the sort of thing I'm talking about. Okay. You could relate to each section of that statement I just made. I created a sort of a visual journey that we both experience right there at the same time. Right. That's what you need to accomplish in your storytelling. Helping your audience visualize each part of the story by including those sensory details that help to create a vivid picture that will burn that picture into their mind.
This turns your story from mere words into an experience, making it. Making your stories much more impactful and memorable. Then, as you conclude your presentation, they're riding that emotional high with you. Amen. And that's how you can turn your stories into catalysts for. For them to take action, which we're going to get into next time. Praise God. Once again, I want to encourage you back over here.
