At last, an episode all about talking cats (sort of)! Abbie cracks open a new book to tell the Japanese tale of the Vampire Cat of Nabeshima, which is pretty much just as cool as it sounds. After, Kelsey brings you the adorable palate cleanser The Small, Small Cat.
We got a new book, River Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland by Lisa Schneidau and it is FILLED with some fantastic stories. Kelsey reads some poetic nonsense that leaves us feeling dreamy with The Stars in the Sky, and Abbie reads a much darker but super cathartic tale The Wounded Swan. Moral of this episode? Don’t eff with swans. Ever.
It’s random reading time and Abbie reads Johnny and The Witch Maidens which sounds sexy and is but in an unexpected way, and Kelsey reads Herr Fix It Up which is like the off-brand version of The White Snake, with even more horse murder than before.

Anna and Lindsey from the true crime and paranormal podcast Ghosts in the Attic Bodies in the Basement join us for “Scary Tale Fix!” Lindsey tells us the origin story for Maui, AKA the strong chaos baby, and Anna tells us a Russian folk tale that inspired Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride, simply called The Finger.
Abbie & Kelsey talk *The Witcher season 2! Oh, and I guess they also read some stories. Abbie randomly chooses a story from the Russian Fairy Tale Pantheon and stumbles upon The Golden Slipper, which most definitely should have been called The Fishy Godmother, while Kelsey chooses a random story from A Book of Sorcerers and Spells and reads about a daring adventure in The Sleeper.
Kelsey and Abbie get into the holiday spirit the only way they know how – with some sad, existentially dreadful tales written by a couple of sad Victorian bisexual boys. Kelsey reads Hans Christian Andersen’s The Steadfast Tin Soldier, while Abbie opts for Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince.

It’s time for a blind reading! Abbie & Kelsey let the fates decide two randomly chosen fairy tales for some genuine, organic reactions. Abbie reads the terrifying tale of Lu-bo-bo, a hungry beast out for teenage blood (at least we wish), while Kelsey reads the classic Little Brother and Little Sister, and are once again disappointed by creepy old kings preying on young maidens in the forest.
