Cancel Culture and Abraham Lincoln
Episode description
The nation's first Republican president who signed the Emancipation Proclamation and supported the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery in the United States is among the latest political figures slowly being scrubbed from history. Just last fall, the Black Student Union and the Student Inclusion Coalition supported removing the statue of President Abraham Lincoln from the top of Bascom Hill at UW-Madison. Schools across the nation are eliminating Lincoln as their namesake to avoid political controversy. In this latest episode of Fact Check, La Crosse County Republican Party Chair Bill Feehan shares his perspective for why a president who was assassinated nearly 155 years ago is making headlines in 2021.
