Episode description

Communicating expectations is the key to relationships (but it's not always easy)

In any relationship, personal or professional, communicating expectations is key. By clearly communicating what we expect from the other person, we can avoid misunderstandings and frustration.

When expectations are not met, it can lead to disappointment and resentment. Good communication is the key to any good relationship, whether it be with a significant other, friend, family member, or co-worker.

Oftentimes when expectations are not met, it is because they were never communicated in the first place. If you have an expectation of your partner, friend, or family member, be sure to communicate it clearly and early on. This way, there can be no misunderstanding and everyone will be on the same page.

When expectations are not met despite good communication, it can still lead to disappointment and resentment. In these cases, it is important to take a step back and examine the situation objectively. Are your expectations realistic? Are you giving the other person enough time to meet your expectations?

It's ok to let the other person know that you can't meet their expectations. At that time, have a good discussion about alternatives that are realistic & can make both parties happy.
