Consequently, his mother, Mabel, made the decision to return to England, bringing along her two sons, Ronald and his younger brother, Hilary. Tragically, young Tolkien would never see his father again, as he succumbed to a hemorrhage in South Africa, never having the opportunity to reunite with his family in Great Britain.
