¶ Kimi Antonelli Dominates Monaco Grand Prix
Hello and welcome to your checkered flag podcast where we're gonna look back at the Monaco Grand Prix. What a race. Kimmy Antonelli winning the Monaco Grand Prix for the very first time, his fifth consecutive race win this season.
What a performance from the young Italian driver. We're gonna analyse everything we've seen. I'm Rosanna Tennant and joining me here in Port Hercule, the incredible harbour in Monte Carlo is our lead commentator Harry Benjamin and the BBC's F1 correspondent Andrew Benson. What a setting we have for our podcast today guys. The beautiful harbour, so many boats around us, music blaring out, the party's really started, but the party, the biggest party is for Kimmy Antonelli, surely tonight.
I mean oh I it is I don't know about you Betty my brain's still fried from those last 10 laps I'm just trying to get around what a Grand Prix that was but real test for Kimmy Antonelli today to lead every lap from pole position uh To the victory to deal with that restart the lengthy wait with the red flag a fast starting Lewis Hamilton alongside him at the restart. So impressive and he has truly etched his name into the history books. A champion in waiting a Monaco Grand Prix winner.
Andrew, we spoke about whether Kimmy Antonelli could soak up the pressure. He came into this weekend with a 43-point lead over his teammate George Russell. Russell's been trying mind games, trying to heap the pressure on Antonelli, but It didn't seem to faze him at all and this track is so demanding.
Rosanna the superlatives just keep coming for this young man, 19 years old, as you say, five Grand Prix wins in a row. He's answered all the questions. George Russell came here trying to play psychological games. Within 48 hours or so he was admitting that he was struggling to keep pace with Antonelli. He's turned things around so much since his rookie season last year and this was an absolutely perfect weekend on every level. Brilliant pole position before this race.
He'd lost positions at the start every single time, sprint or grand prix. So the pressure was really on. But he nailed it both at the Grand Prix start and at the restart after those chaotic last uh few laps with the incidents with the crashes and the red flag and everything and just brilliant.
¶ Max Verstappen's Early Exit
Well let's go back to the race start, the original race start, where he was lining up on the front row with Max Versapa, the four-time world champion who's won twice around these streets before. He didn't get going. It was a nightmare start, or actually not even a start for Max Verstappen, DNFing right from the off. So did that let Kemi Antonelli off the hook or do you think he still uh put on a great performance holding off the two Ferraris?
I think there's a bit of both there. I think I think there was a bit of baited breath from both the front runners because actually the two Ferraris who were lurking behind, they are the ones that we know. More often than not, get a good start. And actually as Andrew said, it's Kimmy Antonelli who who struggles with his starts in that Mercedes. Max Verstappen hasn't been brilliant with his starts in that Red Bull this season. So there was a chance we could we see Lewis Hamilton nick through.
In the end, Max Verstappen's actual initial getaway was actually fine, but then he just completely bogged down and it just completely went from him. And Kimi Antoni then had Sandavot to himself.
Antonelli had a good start. I think he would have been fine. I think Max Stampen would have had the outside going into Sandavort. It's really tricky to make that work in the opening stages. So I think Antonelli did exactly what he needed to do and it's Fortunate for Kimmy, unfortunate for Max Verstappen and what happened with his suspected engine issues off the line.
Yeah, we got a bit confused, didn't we, in commentary as to whether his uh race engineer, Jean-Pierre Laviesi, was asking him to bring it home to the checkered flag or whether it was to bring it home to the garage so we can put it to sleep for a little bit.
And and it was it was uh to be the end for him, wasn't it, Andrew? And it's a shame and uh you know, after the podium in Canada, that first one for the new Red Bull Ford powertrain, it uh it's not gone his way, has it?
Well actually as Vas as Verstappen said after the race to you, Rosanna, actually this has been a really positive weekend for Red Bull. He nearly got pole position, you know, and even second on the grid he had hopes of obviously beating Antonelli off the line.
uh but it wasn't to be it was an engine problem that put paid him and of course Verstappen and Giampiero Lambiesi they had more information than we did on that first lap when they were talking to each other so they knew that the engine's problem was terminal. But of course that opened the door for Ferrari. But I think the most impressive thing about those first few laps, two laps into the race, Kimmy Antonelli was 2.9 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton.
quite a lot, five seconds or so after about eight laps, then he backed off because he had overheating rear brakes for about ten laps. Then he went again after that point. He was in total control. No one got anywhere near him all afternoon.
¶ Antonelli's Unstoppable Season
He had the purple little symbol next to his name saying that he'd got the fastest lap, pretty much exactly, for the whole time. And it was Peter Bonnington, Kimmy Antonelli's race engineer, who said, we don't need these fastest laps. Of course you don't get a point for fastest laps. Just chill out, bring it home, like we don't need to push.
But you know what? Antonelli will have been sitting in the car and I bet you he says in the press conference, which hasn't happened yet, we're doing this so quickly after the end of the race, that he was so in control. And when you're in c that much control, you're filling up one with your car.
especially when it's the fastest car and you're the fastest driver in it, a fastest slap's no big deal. In fact it's better to keep going at some kind of speed'cause then you don't lose your concentration.
I think it was a drive beyond his years as well. Forget he is 19. I know Formula One drivers are getting younger and younger by the year, but Just to put this into perspective with what we saw from Kimmy last year, you know, all the hype and just I think we all thought, is this actually the wonder kid that Toso all thought he was gonna be? Toto told us to told us to shut up about that a few races ago now.
And we're continuing to sort of allude to it but I think we really have gotta to shut up about it now because this is Kimi Antonelli. He is out and out putting in the fastest laps. Let's not forget pole was sealed by what less than half a tenth of a second on Saturday.
And to have the frame of mind to have Bono in your ear, a man of wise words telling you to slow down, but he's got it all in hand. He's the youngest ever Formula One driver to get the grand slam. So pole, lead every lap of a race, fastest lap. and take the victory, he just keeps breaking the records.
Harry, at the moment he looks unstoppable. He could break like every record. You know, I'm starting to think about, you know, nine wins in a row for Sebastian Vettel in twenty thirteen, youngest ever world champion, ten wins in a row. You know, Max Verstappen, it's just they just keep coming and it's like, you know, it is the fastest car and we've we've had a race this weekend where overtaking is basically impossible as we saw through the race. Um
But that's gonna go away again from now on because overtaking is always possible this year after Monaco. So even if he you know that they've got the fastest car, even if he loses the position at the start again, you can expect him to come through. George Russell's admitted he needs to go away and do some homework to try and Understand why he can't keep up with Antonelli at the moment, and let's not forget, I think probably the most statement statistic of the weekend.
is Russell is not even second in the championship anymore. He's now two points behind Lewis Hamilton, who I think if I've got my mask right is 60 points behind, more than 60 points I should say, sorry, behind Kimi Antonelli. How is he going to be stopped at this rate?
Do you know what, just to finish off the Kimmy Antonelli point, even the world's media are trying to throw the European season as a bit of a banana skin in there for Kimmy Antonelli. Oh well last year he struggled with the European season. Well, uh hello, newsflash. We've just started the European season. It doesn't seem to be a bogey track for him. I don't know whether next weekend will be as well in Spain. It feels like nothing is gonna stop Kimi Antonelli this season.
He's learned the hard way in that European season. I remember it was Immela, you know, he's home raised, he was born in Bologna. He brought all of his schoolmates last year and it was a distraction for him. And he has learned the hard way. That first ever practice outing the year before in Monza looked super quick. Crashed it into the wall quite badly before he'd even signed the contract. Didn't even have the best F2 season either.
He's clearly incredibly talented and raw, but he's had to develop and learn actually quite quickly and the hard way in a short amount of time.
There's really some specific and really important differences between last year and this year. First of all he's not a rookie anymore. Second of all Uh there were some changes to the Mercedes car at the start of the European season-ish last year, which really knocked his confidence with the way it was turning into corners.
And it's it took him, they had to revert to their previous rear suspension, which was the change that had affected him later in the season. Then he got his confidence back and towards the end of the year he was coming back towards George Russell's sort of pace.
Now also this year the cars have changed completely, different aerodynamic philosophy. They they respond in a different way. We're seeing this with Lewis Hamilton. You drive them in a different way. A much more aggressive sort of almost like go-kart. ta kind of driving style. Antonelli is really getting on with that in the same way Hamilton is at Ferrari, whereas Russell's struggling with that. He's a much smoother driver. He's not getting the tires to work for him.
So there's no reason at the moment to think that Antonelli will struggle in that way because the the circumstances are different.
It's I think it's also perks of a second year with a team. you know, you have a bit of an input into how the car's gonna feel ahead of the season. We're seeing it with Hamilton as well. You have more comfort, the communication is better with your engineering team around you as well. That doesn't happen overnight. Some people it just clicks.
Some people, in whatever industry you're in, you might not click immediately and now things are firing on all cylinders for Antonelli. He's got great people around him and that will be a massive benefit too.
Of course he will hit trouble. No season runs perfectly smoothly. There will be reliability problems you assume. He'll probably make some mistakes along the way, but he's got such a big lead now that he can kind of relax into it. The pressure is almost off, even though the pressure's never off in Formula One. It doesn't even look like he's under any pressure up up to this point. But he's got no reason to be anymore.
So he can just relax into the driving in the way that he already is doing. Um and I'm I'm sure he can ride out those storms. Of course, Ferrari could progress. Uh McLaren could get their car more on the pace. There have been threats to Mercedes so far, but there certainly weren't to any Antonelli and them this weekend.
So Kimmy Antonelli, your race winner here in Monaco, extending his lead in the championship.
¶ Lewis Hamilton's Resurgence
We then got to look at P2, and that's Lewis Hamilton, both here in Monaco and now also as we've already mentioned in the standings. It's finally clicking with Lewis. It feels like he's getting uh more comfortable with the car, more comfortable with the team. He's got his new race engineer. Are we expecting these sort of results now on the regular from Lewis Hamilton? Because it was the same in Montreal last time out.
Well he's been he made some pointed remarks earlier in the weekend about, you know, people writing him off last year. Um which we never did. But of course we even the BBC were asking questions about Lewis Hamilton. What's gone wrong? Because he had such a difficult year. He w you know he was wearing his heart on his sleeve as you know Rosanna number of the interviews that you did with him.
It was like I'm not enjoying this, I'm not looking forward to coming back next year, I'm not quick anymore. You know, he didn't understand what was happening. He's really got his mojo back this year. Of course he didn't never lost his self-belief. He ha he believed there were reasons last year.
Uh but he's now ahead of Charles Leclerc on the head-to-head in qualifying and that's really saying something because Charles Leclerc is incredibly fast. He looks at home in the Ferrari car, more at home in the Ferrari team.
He's not going to challenge Antonelli for the lead of the championship because Ferrari aren't in a competitive position to do that. But we're definitely see we're back to seeing more the Lewis Hamilton we expect to see. The ground effect cars that he didn't like so much since twenty twenty two to twenty twenty twenty-five. are behind him now and he's reveling in this new situation.
I loved listening to Lewis yesterday when he was talking after qualifying, obviously out qualifying Charles around the streets that Charles Leclerc grew up on. I think he saw that as a small victory and he was very quick to point out. He obviously listens to you, Andrew, a lot because you often say Charles Leclerc is the fastest driver over one lap in Formula One and he said, you know, a lot of people talk about Charles Leclerc being the fastest over one lap, but I think I kinda still got it.
Yeah. But he was quite tentative. It was actually quite endearing to be so tentative about blowing his own trumpet. I mean we're talking about a seven time world champion. Of course he's rapid over one lap, but I do think the self-belief must have been wavering slightly over the last few years. So it's great to see him challenging right at the front and it's such a romantic story the link up with Lewis and Farage.
Well the thing about Hamilton Rosanna is that you know whether he's doubting himself or not because he wears his heart on his sleeve and he tells you that he's doubting himself. He literally almost said it in those words, didn't he? I'm not quick anymore.
Perhaps surprise. Perhaps surprise.
Ferrari need to change driver, you know that's one thing he said last year. Of course he doesn't really mean that deep down, but he was questioning why, why, why am I not performing in this car? But here we are, new season, new types of cars. He's much more at home. And you know, we started this day thinking maybe he could win the Monaco Grand Prix. Maybe we even looked at the restart Harry with ten laps to go, thinking maybe Louis, in fact we even said it on commentary, didn't we?
Maybe Hamilton can get into the lead. There was all sorts of shenanigans with safety car distances and what have you going on at various points. but he escaped a penalty for that. Um and um it's great to see Hamilton back where he belongs, you know, because this is, you know, one of the greatest drivers of all time, statistically the greatest driver of all time.
It wasn't the real Lewis Hamilton the last few years. And uh here he is again, being the real Lewis Hamilton, and uh I'm sure he's looking forward to the rest of the season as a result.
I think Hamilton will get a victory this year in Reds for Ferrari. I think Back to back second place finishes. I think the main thing holding him back at the moment, we'll see, look, every track we go to in this new era really presents something quite different with the way the characteristics affect the car, the engine recovery systems and whatnot.
I think Ferrari just missing a little bit and hopefully they can bring that with upgrades across the European season and just find that little bit that that Hamilton is missing in particular. But I think with this engineer, even though I know he's an interim engineer, Carlos Santi seems to really be getting on with him as well.
His his off track life seems to be booming as well. You know, well I know he laughed about it, but Kim Kardashian was here this weekend with also you know his mother was there in Canada last weekend and he he just seems
Happy in all sense of his life now and to come back to your point about wearing heart on his sleeve he needs that in order to perform well and you know he's still got it. We had a 19-year-old take the win, we had a 21-year-old finish third and a 41-year-old finish in the middle of them. He's still got it.
There's hope for everyone.
¶ Ferrari's Performance & Engine Update
Before we get too excited about Ferrari, you know, they are a long way off Mercedes on average on qualifying pace. and uh this was probably the m circuit most suited to the characteristics of their car. So we'll go to Barcelona next weekend and I don't expect Ferrari to be a threat to Mercedes there. There are
There's some politics going on at the moment in Formula One around engines to do with next year's rules, linked in with the development and upgrade opportunities that are part of this year's rules. We don't quite know how that's gonna all f pan itself out, but it looks like Ferrari have got a new engine in the wings for potentially the Austrian Grand Prix, which is the one after Spain.
Let's see what they can do if that's true, let's see what they can do with that new engine because if they don't get an engine upgrade, I think it's gonna be hard for them to beat Mercedes in a normal race without anything strange happening.

¶ Charles Leclerc's Brake Issues
Let's talk about Lewis's teammate Charles Leclerc then because he definitely had the favourite tag I think on his back coming into this weekend. He's gone so well here in the past with some bad luck, but he knows what it takes now to win around these streets. He was right up there. Until he was in the wall. He'd been complaining about his brakes and he's been complaining about them for some time now.
But he says that's what led him into the wall this afternoon, not the asphalt coming away at Anthony Noages, the final part of the track. He's convinced it was the brakes. What do we reckon?
I mean he said it in the heat of the moment, didn't he? A and uh look but he obviously hasn't liked the brakes all weekend long, didn't like them in Canada either. I think he'll he'll look back on it and the fact that Lance Stroll, you know, two laps prior had a carbon copy incident.
I think it was more of an effect of the trap breaking up and asphalt uh the the marbles, the bits that break off from the tyre really building up there. Because as soon as both Stroll and then Leclerc Uh took the wide entry point into Anthony Noges, the front left just stopped working and it picked up all sorts of marbles and then straight into the barrier.
Yeah, I don't think he's gonna give up on this break thing. I'm gonna read I'm gonna read to you what Leclerc said after the race. He says it doesn't help to have asphalt that's coming off, but the data speaks for itself. It's extremely frustrating. I've always been very honest, no matter how many mistakes I do.
I would hate to look at myself in the mirror and see myself finding excuses when I do a mistake. So that's why I'm always bluntly honest when I'm in front of the cameras. I'm not going to take any of it today. I touched the brakes. On the front brakes it just braked a lot more than I thought.
And in the brakes though and the rear brakes there was no deceleration at all. That's what I've been dealing with for two races now. He was talking about this in Canada. It's not what led to the error that he made in qualifying when he crashed at Tab.
No, but he's making a marked point with that statement to his team that he's really not happy. Having just come into this weekend signing an extension with Ferrari, he feels like he's clearly not being listened to with what he wants. And equally we saw that in the first part of the race where you know l he was behind Hamilton.
and Hamilton had um had a five second time penalty hanging over him for speeding in the pit lane and then we had the s the first safety car come out and they decided to double stack under that uh safety car.
And Hamilton was ahead, the crew don't touch the car for five seconds and that held up Charles Leclerc and he could not understand why that happened because if if that hadn't happened and a normal race ensued, Charles Leclerc was a net second. He would have inherited that from Lewis Hamilton.
Yeah, there was some sort of internal inter team politics going on there, wasn't there? Because uh Leclerc was set to take second place, but then they the way they did the shape the situation with the pit stops around the two safety car periods. Uh he didn't get that second place, so maybe he's annoyed about that. But it doesn't sound like that that's the main thing on his mind. You know, just to carry on about him, he's talking about there's been some differences with the brakes.
between the cars. He didn't think it had been a disadvantage for him, but here and in Montreal with cold tire temperatures and the tires being more sensitive when you're on the limit, it's been an absolute nightmare. I'm weighing my words. He's obviously very, very upset. Today I look like an idiot. When you look like an idiot for a mistake of your own, it's fine, but this is borderline dangerous.
Well, we'll have to watch and see what happens when we get to Barcelona to see whether they can rectify something. Not but not much time to do that, is there?
I mean is he suddenly regretting signing this contract?
Yeah.
Get his Inca razor out. That's a bit old school. I'm sure it was an No. Electronic signature, surely. Uh so yeah, a very difficult day and weekend for Charles Leclerc, who I'm sure wanted to take poll and the win here in front of his home crowd.
¶ Isaac Hadjar's Strategic Podium
not to be but Ferrari pick up some points nonetheless with Lewis Hamilton. And then we've spoken about Max Assapan cr like unable to take part in the race essentially right from the off. His teammate Isaac Hajar Another driver we heard a lot from over the radio, not enough power. He kept on saying that to his team. I don't have any power, I don't have any power. And yet a P3 for the French driver.
Yeah, I mean good on the face of it, really good recovery drive. Uh Red Bull played a blinder with the strategy to overhaul uh a load of cars with the pit stop under the safety car and then red flag. allowing you a free pit stop initially, that shot him up the order, because up until that point he was probably looking about
Man a seventh place maybe? Cody was fighting with Russell and he kept Russell behind. Russell couldn't find a way through and the engine issues were plaguing him all throughout the race. As you say, no power. Uh but he is under investigation as we talk right now for uh safety car infringement, which we believe is to be more than ten car lengths away from the car in front.
uh uh during the safety car period which George Russell has dubbed him in for. Now I I I think he will make the case and Red Bull will make the case that there were clearly power issues that circumnavigate
the the normal rule being adhered to but I I I in a way I think you know I I feel like it's a deserved podium in a way because they had a good strategy. He f he stayed in it till the end and you know if it's the first Red Bull podium for Isaac Hadjah in Monaco I think that's a really nice story.
Let's not forget he was reversed into a wall earlier in the weekend.
Yes, there was that.
An amazing recovery in a sense.
Yeah, I mean, you know, after the race he was like, Why does it have to be so hard? you know, complaining about the engine things. Well he's like, I'm sorry, it's Formula One, it's meant to be hard.
I do love him on the radio.
But a good drive and as Harry said, what Red Bull did with the strategy was they left him out under the first safety car on old tires. Which meant that other people who had penalties to serve dropped behind him, he moved up the field. And so that gained him those positions that we're talking about now. I think a good solid podium, a good drive, and it's what just what Red will need, you know, for the last few years we've been talking about
Second Red Bull drivers who are not doing the job to back up Max Verstappen when he's not in the picture. Isaac Hadjar has done that today, so he's done himself a lot of good.
Yeah, a really nice result from him and you know, you you're right, it is a hard business Formula One. It doesn't feel that hard bobbing around in the harbour on a lovely luxury yacht, but you know. No, I'm I'm finding it relatively easy. Um so that's your top three. Uh Kimmy Antonelli, your championship leader, Lewis Hamilton and Isaac Hajjar.
¶ Race Attrition and Pit Lane Penalties
Um it was a bit of a race of attrition, I think, you've got to say, and reliability rearing its ugly head. Maybe we should expect that more given we are essentially at the beginning of a rule and regulation change. But it's something the teams have got to get on top of. We lost uh I'm gonna have to read it now, where am I?
Fifteen cars finished the race, I think. Yeah.
Fifteen cars finished. We lost Lando Norris. Yep. We lost Sergio Girls Bell Tree Bottas.
Boss as Batman.
Into the wall, Charlotte Clare into the wall. And Versappen. And Verstappen. And they weren't those those wall moments, they weren't just driver error, those were, as we've already alluded to with Charlotte Claire, brakes, that's the same with Lance Stroll.
Well actually, you know, Damon Hill and I had an argument about that on air. I think they are driver mistakes because the other drivers didn't make them, right? I mean, Damon was a bit more He was a little bit more uh you know lax with the drivers. Oh, you know, give the you know, the track was breaking up but you know, the other drivers didn't go in the wall. So I think that is a d a driver.
With stroll.
Not with Leclerc. Leclerc's very clear about, or at least he's saying, from his point of view, it was my brakes, it wasn't the track surface.
Stroll was very clear about it being his brakes and engine brake kids. So yeah, engine braking for storage.
To be fair.
Yeah we don't w I don't wanna digress on Trust and Martin too much but just briefly those drivers, Stroll and Fernando Alonso have been complaining about the bizarre characteristics of that car and corner entry all weekend, so that may well be the case.
So the drivers who didn't make it to the Czech and Flag kind of then explain the rest of the top ten for you. So Oscar Piastri P four, his teammate not finishing the race, Liam Lawson, P five, Arvid Limblad, P six. Pierre Gasly, P7 in the Alpine. Then it was Alex Albon, P8, his teammate. Carlos Sainz, that was the other driver we lost. Yeah.
But uh also just uh I mean uh w just going through that list, Oscar Piastri actually kinda lucky to be fourth. Pierre Gasly crossed the line in third. If he hadn't uh if he hadn't have gone too quickly in the pit lane He wouldn't have got a five second penalty applied and he was absolutely fuming about that. And also, we've really got to get to the bottom of this. What on earth was going on in the pit lane today? The amount of uh speeding five second penalties that were given.
I don't think I think it must have been a record. I think we counted six different things.
I think it's Hamilton, Colapinto, Russell, Gasly and Piastri who all got penalties for speeding in the pit lane. I don't think there are any others, but even so, five that's uh nearly a quarter of the grid.
I would say that's unprecedented. Something must have been going on in that pit lane. I don't know what it was. Uh we haven't had chance to find out yet. I'm sure it will come to light later on. Um but of course, you know, one of the people who did suffer from penalties was George Russell who had two.
¶ George Russell's Difficult Weekend
And uh I guess we should probably talk about him Rosanna because uh his weekend's just been pretty dire from start to finish, hasn't it? And I think you know the qualifying pace definitely that's on Russell. But the failing to serve the penalty, that's on Mercedes. You know, he came in for a pit stop. If you've got a penalty pending, whether there's safety car or not, whether you're gonna lose a million positions or not, you have to serve the penalty if you make a stop.
Gasly ended up being penalised because he didn't serve the penalty, but he didn't serve it because he didn't stop and then didn't stop again. Whereas Russell did stop, so that there was no way he could get away from not taking the penalty and that's why he got the penalty. The drive-thru penalty afterwards, that's why he's got no points.
and that's why he'll go home to his flat in Monaco somewhere away around the corner from here tonight, licking his wounds and thinking I've really got to get on top of this because this season's falling apart for me at the moment.
P thirteen for George Russell. Um really, yeah, a terrible weekend for him. He described the season so far as torrid, which it really has been a torrid season. He has so much bad luck. Um, you know, if you didn't have bad luck he'd have no luck at all.
Yeah, but you know, you make your own luck a little bit in this life, but equally
Not at the casino.
But I also, you know, he was four tenths away from his teammate in qualifying.
Four ten.
And hasn't looked at any stage this weekend like he could challenge to be bet to be better than Antonelli, to be faster. And the fact you know when a driver is kind of lost for exactly what the reasons are, that's that's that's Danger territory I think for George Russell. So he hasn't got long before we go racing again in Barcelona to to try and reset because we've got races coming thick and fast now. And what is it? Yeah, it's over sixty six points that that uh Kimmy has on on Lewis Hamilton.
This is a mighty, mighty amount of points to overhaul at this stage of the game.
Well I would say about Barcelona, it's a very different kind of track. There'll be no problem with tire temperatures there because Barcelona is very tough on tyres. Presumably it'll be hot. It usually is in Spain in June. The corners are long and medium speed and fast.
So this uh this aggressive driving style that he talks about with Antonelli, it's not the ideal thing that's gonna get you lap time in a way that it does at Monaco and Canada, for example. So you may find that Russell's right back on the pace in Barcelona, we'll have to see.
And also because the races come thick and fast, I think drivers are gonna get into a bit more of a rhythm. We've had such a stop-start season with the cancellations of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and I feel like suddenly we're gonna get into the groove and maybe that will help George Russell as well.
¶ Monaco GP Wrap-Up and Future Outlook
Well, what a weekend we have had here in Monaco. Super Saturday, I think, delivered on all counts with qualifying, something we were all looking forward to. I think the race actually delivered as well because a lot of people were worrying it was going to be a procession. And it sounds like everybody's having a good time.
Well I tell you what Rosanna, there's two crates of Apriel spritz down there. Maybe we should take them with us.
There really is a lot down there. I think I mean look there's celebrations to be had all over the shop isn't there? I think just a few uh just one final word. I think really good result for the racing bulls guys today. They did a spectacular job. Big double points for them. Marvid Lindblad in his first Monaco Grand Prix, really good. I think also, uh whilst there is a disclaimer over this.
P10, the final point, is currently in the hands of Cadillac and Sergio Perez in what would be their first point in Formula One. However, he is under investigation for being out of position on the second restart. If he loses that because he was given a penalty for the first start where he was out of position, if he loses that, the guy behind him that could inherit, who is it Benny?
Alonso and I can tell you he won't be bothered in the slightest whether he scores one point for tenth place. But for the team, both teams, either team, it would be massive because at the moment Aston Martin are having a terrible, terrible season with Honda. We all know about that. Not an upgrade on the engine, the Honda engine, until at least Zanvor after the summer break.
So they could do with a break even though it's their fault I guess that they're in this mess. And as for Cadillac, okay, they've done it through inheriting it, through various crashes and so on.
