Episode description

Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 59-points this morning from Friday's close, at 22,839 on turnover of 5.4-billion N-T. The market closed slightly lower on Friday as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing recouped most of its early heavy losses following a plunge by I-C stocks on Wall Street at the end of last week. Work to Restore Power and Access to Typhoon-Hit Villages Continues The Central Emergency Operation Center says efforts to repair the damage caused by Typhoon Kong-Rey are ongoing. The statement comes as more than 8,000 households remain without power and access to several rural communities remains blocked following last week's storm. According to the center, 8,164 households across Taiwan are still without power and work to restore electricity expected to wrap-up later today. A total of 965,342 households experienced power outages as the typhoon battered Taiwan and several locations remain cut off due to damage to access roads, which continues to hinder progress in restoring (恢復) power. Water supplies have been restored to all 63,016 households affected by the storm. 2nd Taiwanese Volunteer Soldier Killed in Ukraine The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of a second Taiwan national in Ukraine. Deputy spokesman Hsiao Guang-wei says his office was able to confirm the death through the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine. According to Hsiao, the foreign ministry has contacted the man's family and will offer assistance (協助) to them should they need any in dealings with matters related to his death. D-P-P lawmaker Puma Shen has named the volunteer soldier as Wu Chong-da. Shen says the 44-year-old Kaohsiung native was a veteran of Taiwan's Army Special Forces Command and was killed fighting on the frontline in Ukraine. Israel Military Seizes Syrian Citizen The Israeli military says it has carried out a ground raid into Syria, seizing a Syrian citizen involved in Iranian networks. It was the first time in the current war that Israel announced its troops operated in Syrian territory. Syria did not immediately confirm the Sunday announcement. The Israeli military said the seizure was part of a special operation “that took place in recent months,” though it did not say exactly when it occurred (發生). It says the man seized had been under military surveillance for many months and was involved in Iranian initiatives targeting areas of the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. US Trump and Harris on Campaign Sprint White House hopefuls Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are tearing through (匆忙行動) a number of swing states in the last days of the US election campaign - whose undecided voters could ultimately decide the result of this race. Our US Correspondent Jagruti Dave has more. Congo MPOX Shows Signs of Stabilizing Some health officials say mpox cases in Congo appear to be “stabilizing.” It's a possible sign that the epidemic for which the World Health Organization made a global emergency declaration in August might be on the decline. WHO says Congo has reported about 200 to 300 lab-confirmed mpox cases every week recently, which is down from nearly 400 cases a week in July. But the U.N. health agency acknowledges (承認) that only 40% to 50% of suspected infections in Congo were being tested. That was the I.C.R.T.
