Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News.
Tai-Ex opening
The Tai-Ex opened up 58-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 23,070
on turnover of $6.5-billion N-T.
Shares in Taiwan closed lower amid continuing concerns over volatility on the
U.S. markets and inflationary pressure after the return of Donald Trump, who
has vowed to raise tariffs, to the White House in January.
And analysts say the financial sector came under heavy pressure, contributing
to the downward movement of the Taiex.
Miaoli Hits 1 Degree Early Morning
Parts of Miaoli County have recorded the lowest temperature of the season
this morning.
According to the Central Weather Administration, monitoring stations
confirmed that San-wan Township reached 1-degree-Celsius at around 7am.
And nearby, Hsinchu County's E-mei Township recorded temperatures of
2.1-degrees.
Meteorologist Wu De-rong says the extreme low was likely caused by clear
skies and strong radiative (輻射的) cooling.
He says skies will likely remain clear over the next two days with warmer
daytime temperatures, but cold early mornings and nights.
Then on Wednesday, another front carrying cold air and rain is expected to
move over the island for another two days.

Taiwanese artist wins international postcard contest in Japan
A Taiwanese artist was awarded the top prize in a postcard competition at a
regional art museum in Japan.
Lee Li-chin was the first non-Japanese competitor to win the annual 10x15
World Contest.
On Saturday, she received the Mayor's Award for her postcard depiction (描寫)
of the Kawai Shrine in Kyoto, which combined embroidery and oil painting.
Lee says she was inspired by the striking red color of traditional Shinto
gates against surrounding green mountains, during her first visit to Kyoto.
Speaking to the Japanese media, she said wanted to enrich her world by
participating in the art contest and hoped to convey a message of love
through her work.

AP correspondent Julie Walker reports
Turkey Rescued Gorilla Recovering at Zoo
A young gorilla rescued from a plane’s cargo hold is recovering at an
Istanbul zoo while wildlife officers consider returning him to his natural
habitat.
The 5-month-old gorilla was discovered in a box on a Turkish Airlines flight
from Nigeria to Thailand last month.
After a public competition, he has been named Zeytin, or Olive, and is
recuperating (正在康復中) at Polonezkoy Zoo.
The director of Istanbul nature conservation says it's important to return
the gorilla “to an absolutely safe environment.”
Both western and eastern gorillas, which populate central Africa’s remote
(偏僻的) forests and mountains — are classified as endangered by the
International Union for Conservation of Nature.
