late July. He had to put out sort of a public He wrote a letter that then got put out on social media saying that he thought Bruce Hill was his quarterback when he got here back in nineteen seventy five or nine seventy three, was ended up being one of the great quarterbacks at Arizona. How he thought he should be in the in the Ring of Honor at Arizona Stadium.
He is already in the you of a athletic Hall of Fame. But school announced today that's like program announced say that Hill will be added to the Arizona flip Our Ring of Honor at the homecoming game on November fourth. So, whether Jim's letter or somebody else called attention to this deservedly in the Ring of Honor. And you know I got you know, I was a teenager when he was playing here. Got to see those three teams that he that
he quarterbacked. They were really fun to watch, you know, just I mean, the guy had a rocket for an arm, he had some guys to throw too. He had t Bell one another one of the all time great receivers at Arizona. And so he's, uh, he's in the ring. He's gonna be in the Ring of Honor this year. Cool. It's very cool. Uh, it's cool. And look those teams were he would a lot of a lot of has talked about that. Larry Smith put you
know, Arizona on the map. But even before that, Jim Young came over here, and you know they had three great to three or four great seasons beat as U at a time when the Arizona just never never beat ASU. They had some some really good players. T Bell was in the NFL for a lot of years, I think with the Steelers, So you know, these guys were these guys were really good. I mean they're in the whack. You were ranked a bunch, So you know, again, well
deserved for Bruce Hill to be getting into the ring of monor cool. All right, So, hey, I know if you saw this creeped up on me. I hadn't seen it until last night. And it's something that happened on Sunday. But there was a Patriots fan who got in a fight. Ye died. Now, as of last night, they were saying it was a due to an injury in a fight because he got punched a couple of times. But now they're saying it was after an autopsy's saying it was it
was an unrelated medical issue. Now, he wasn't a fight, there's no denying that the video of it. But they're saying that the fight and there was not not a traumatic injury that he had, and they called it an unspecified medically. So you're telling me, Jay that this guy older guy six Okay, that's even sad because he's younger than me. So he stopped to six years old. Had he just gotten up left and and I'm not talking about fight, he's just gotten up, said you said goodbye to the game
and went home, this would have happened. He might have. Now there they called it unspecified. Did he have a you know, did he have a heart attack because of the fight, right right? Or did he have did the fight cause some other medical issue? Legal? What the what they're saying is he did not have a traumatic injury. So he got punched in the face. People though we got punched in the face, so you know, he got a brain hammers. It wasn't anything like that. So now,
yes, you get in a stressful situation like that. Yeah, so does it say what happens to the guy who hit him or who There's still been no charges or anything filed, nothing legally that guy saved Oh maybe maybe he maybe? Now you you can bet your you know whatever that this guy's family is going to get a lawyer, sure, and they're gonna go try and and squeeze something out of the guy who you know who you know was
in the fight with him. But we don't know who started the fight, how did they They've got all kinds of video of it, so I'm sure some of this stuff will come out. But but they're just saying that an autopsy showed that he died of an unspecified medical issue and it wasn't a traumatic injury that caused his death. But how do we get into Monday night before this word got out about this, this guy died. I mean we didn't know about it yesterday. No, No, he had seen it again early
this morning and saw that. This is what you see him a lot well cameras now we everyone has in one camera. Right. You see all these fights you watch, you see video of the fight, and all you see a people instead of people around him trying to stop the fight, everybody's trying to video of the fight because they know exactly exactly. It's funny because I don't know, and I don't go to games that much anyway. I went
to a Diamondback game a while block. But the last thing I would do Jay, the last thing I would do, and I don't do it. Now we're an opposing uniform of some other time somewhere, like the Dodgers and the Giants. It's like every other day. It's something. I would never wear Dodging gear to a Giant's game, but I will to a diamond Backs game because I'll keep it a harmless He's about five day everybody, he's about five foot eight, five foot time, but overweight, gray hair. You
can't miss him. Looks at George Lopez again. So letters to me sending letters to this guy. All right, I'll be looking for another partner and I'll have an unspecified medical that's right, right. He died from diabetes, not from being beat All right, okay, hey women, Arizona women's basketball has lost another player, a transfer who was supposed to be sort of a developing player, Fantag Gussama has left the program. So they're down to ten
players, uh for for the season right now? Who's Arizona women's basketball? Oh? Yeah, wow? Because they had season an injury month. Montea do had it season? Any injury? Now? Uh? Is that a good This is dumb question. Well, now you can have the graduate assistant the guys kind of play a practice, so sure that happens already. Where the guys have enough players? I mean Aery McDonald's she was you know, she was stuff. But they're they're down to temple if she was a front
court player. So I don't know, we'll see, but uh, you know, numbers of numbers appear to be started to become an issue for well, that's the whole thing Jay for her. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, because I think one of the things that's pragged her in the past, and I don't know this to be. In fact, I'm just a doctor playing in the radio. That depth in terms of making everybody or keeping everybody happy hard, it's hard. So now that
you only have ten, it will be that hard. Yeah, it shouldn't be that hard, you would think. So. Anyways, let's see what's my next thing. Okay, another hazy and scandal. UH Boston College. I'm shocked, JA, the swimming and diving has been suspended. They're just they stopped the entire program because because of hazing. The statement from UH from
the I guess the athletic department. The Boston College Men's and women's swimming and diving program has been placed on indefinite suspension after university administrators determined that hazing had occurred within the program. The university does not and will not tolerate hazing in any form. During the suspension, all swimming and diving student athletes will continue and have access to academic and medical resources provided to all Boston College students.
Jayden, just an estimate, and I have no idea. I'm throwing numbers out now. The hundred and whatever Division one programs out there whatever. The twenty five percent of them at least go through this, yeah, at least without without looking into it, right, right, no, no doubt. And twenty five being conservative? Uh no, yeah, I think a look at the probably right yeah, probably a little higher than that. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely all right. Kind of a mysterious thing going up going on
with the Bears. Their their their defensive coordinators suddenly resigned today. He said he's taking a step back to take care of his health and his family. But you know we're talking, you know, three games, two games into the season, and he has quit. There was some rumor that there was some sort of a law enforcement thing going on, and that's been shot down. They said they had nothing to do with any of that. But you know, Alan Williams, the defensive coordinate in Chicago, Bears just up and
quits. They also got rid of one of the backup quarterbacks, so and and the problement is one of their leading quarterback there's not doing very well. Very good, yeah, very good. So you know, jumping on the on the uh uh deon Sanders bandwagon is none other than Nick Saban, who in all that's right, that's why I never mind it. There there it's a whole marketing things. His quote was, they play with discipline, they do a good job of executing, They've been able to score points, playing
decent on defense. All those things to me are indicated. Jay, there's one hundred and thirty whatever. Do as you would football prographs. Who in the right mind, whether you playdon or not, would be asked the question what do you think about Dan and say something bad? You're right, I would, I could, I wanted. You know what I'm saying. I know they're not gonna say any bad, whether they believe it or they do. Plus, he's I forgot, he's sort of a business per together.
Yea, a flat commercials together. All right, See this one's right up
your alley. Poker care about this? So a poker player went on social media said he's got stage four colon cancer, started to go fund me page, go fund me account he raised because he wanted to he wanted to play in the World Series of Pokers. He raised I think they said fifty thousand dollars in donations, including donations from another poker player who who has who has cancer, And then it came out that he in fact does not have cancer.
And after he played, you know in the uh in the in the World Series of Poker, and he says he's not giving the money back. So I said, his name is Whereas Rob Mercer from Baiejo, California. It was it was figuring. People started getting suspicious because he was seeing gambling on the floor at the casino where this was all going on. So they're saying, is he gambling the money that that was donated to him. People started asking questions, and then he finally came out and he said, I
did lie about having colon cancer. I don't have colon cancer. I used that to cover my situation. What I did was wrong and I told people I have colon cancer. I did that just as a spur of the moment thing when someone asked me what kind of cancer I had. I'm sorry for not being honest about what my situation was. If I would have done that from day one, who knows what would have happened. And but then again he said he's ai, Okay, okay, so did you go don't do
that. I know you're thinking about it, but you will take donation if people want to give him to you. I'm on. I feel like I told some of the other day. I'm like, we can. Bernie's guy. I'm Steve Rivero, you're Jakins as Now on the phone, we have bow Breck from p h n X Cardinals who in Phoenix. How are you both? Great guys, Thanks for having me. Great to have you on the show.
We're kind of kind of curious what is going on with the Cardinals. I mean, that's that's a tough question to ask right there. I mean we could go several different directions with it, but as far as you know, blowing a twenty one point lead in the fourth, you know, in the second half, that's probably the biggest question. You're asking, correct, Yeah, yeah, and we only have thirteen minutes here, so we will solve the world problems. What what what do you see? You know,
are they you know, just because they don't have their starting quarterback? You know, are there some good things going on? What do you set so far? No? On a sense is a team that's competing in the first two weeks of the season that everybody counted out before the twenty twenty three season kicked off. Obviously, you know a fan base watching their team relinquished two leads, it's it's devastating, right, two games that they could have won.
That's heartbreaking, right, that's a tough pill of the swallow. But I think you're seeing the new coaching staff gets put its fingerprints all over this team, and it's a rebuilt at the end of the day. I mean, this is a team that hit the reset button in January, hired a new coach, hired new GM, hired a new front office, scouting department, and they're putting in motion trying to build a new culture. And it's
tough to do that on the fly. And you know, I don't think that the expectations were far off for this team, where if you're gonna base it off of just how many wins are they going to get, you're gonna
come away disappointed. But if you look at them developing a culture and setting themselves up for success in the future and sustained success, something that this organization hasn't had and it moved to the Valley of the Sun back in the late eighties, I think that you should be, you know, encouraged by the
direction of this team. It was funny to me. I watched some of the game on Saturday or Sunday, and I'm thinking to myself, as they were losing the lead, I said, the bit of old party gave again in a call about late in the fourth courses, you know, we're supposed to be losing these games, right, Tank didn't get the memo, right, No, I mean it looks I mean they couldn't get off the field
in the second half. I mean that was a big problem. Through six quarters, their defense was their strength, and then things just fell apart and it was five straight scoring drives, including four touchdowns from Daniel Jones and the Giants who had been shut out at that to that point in the season, and it's just it was inexcusable. I mean, at no point can you say, hey, you know, you could joke about a tank or or
whatever is going on. You can't ever say, hey, it's you get a pass for giving up, you know, a twenty nothing leading in a twenty eight seven lead. It was. It was a brutal, brutal hit for this organization. But I think some encouraging things and you're hearing some nice response from the coaching staff and the players early this week. The past gets even harder now, I mean it's well, Washington, it's not the Giants, it's two of the powers in the NFC right now, one of the
teams that are playing the best football. Dallas comes into town this Sunday, and then you've got the San Francisco forty Niners the following week. You know, this was this kind of came up with a with a guest, a couple or maybe even just last week. You know, how much does the winning and losing actually matter this year? Right? You mentioned it's a rebuild
and I'm not talking about actually tanking. But you know, is whatever the record is at the end of the season any kind of a really big deal to fans or you know, fans want to win, but in the end, it's like, you don't expect him to do much this year. No, and you know, this roster isn't in a position to compete right now,
and I think everybody realizes that. But they want to see this team get elevated from its coaching staff if they want to know that they made the right decision and hiring Jonathan Gannon, he made the right decisions and hiring a staff, and that the guys that are making the calls as far as offense and defense and special teams are the right people in place, and they want to try to use this where the expectations aren't high as far as wins and
losses, to kind of decide that right. And if the team just sudden't come out and compete and they're getting blown out each and every week, which hasn't happened yet. They've been competitive, and they're taking their lumps as a new coaching staff, which was expected. You know, that's fine, But at some point, if they lose the locker room, if losing really just
kind of wears on everybody, then that's where it becomes an issue. I mean, if they're struggling and they're owing ten and Week ten and they've lost the locker room and you see a horrible product out out there on the field the rest of the way, then that's an indictment on the coaching staff, albeit where they set up for success, probably not, but it's it's going to be important to kind of keep these spirits up in that locker room and
in the FA based they'll be able to tell throughout the way. UH. That's that's just gonna be the most important thing. I mean, you can you can lose games, but you can't not be competitive, and so far we're seeing the best of both worlds. What the necessary medicine is for this organization, you know, find out a lot about your coaching staff, your players who you've been moved forward with, and then also maybe be in the
best position possible to draft the best players come next next Springs draft. So I'm curious, how long have you been covering the team and how young are you? And I asked that from two old dudes. Yeah, I mean, not that young any longer. But I've been covering the team for over a decade. Started at Fox Sports nine ten, the ir Heart affiliate up here in Phoenix. UH, covered the Cardinals and and got got a press credential that way back at the end of the ken Wizzen Hunt Europe and then
you know, went from there and I'm in the late late thirties. Okay, so perfect question. Then, So I wanted to engage your your fandom, not your fandom, but the fan base because you've seen it, you've seen it for for a while. Now, can they continue to be patient and are they? Wow? Man? That that's that's a really tough question. I mean, if you looked at the stands on Sunday, you would have seen that the patients has kind of run out and there wasn't a huge
appetite for the beginning of another rebuild. I mean, it's going to take a lot of faith from fans that to buy into another rebuild and say, hey, this, we've got it wrong the previous ten times and now we're going to get it right this time. But I think that you're seeing some encouraging things from Gannon and Mania Support, who took over for the time,
who left this the organization ceremoniously in December resigned. You know, it's it is tough to be at the very beginning of this, but to see like the positive direction and already see all the draft capital that they've accumulated, and we're gonna make a decision as far as what the franchise quarterback is, you know, soon after the season. I think that that's it's a it's a it's I don't know, it's exciting is the right word. But uh, it just really feels like, for the first time or a long time,
things are trending slowly, albeit in the right direction. So if you didn't have a big fan base over the weekend, I guarantee you'll have one on Sunday. But they'll be worrying Blue. I was just gonna say, now you got the you got the Cowboys coming in for what will probably be more of a home game for them. Yeah, it's gonna be. That's always a tough pill to swallow, but I mean that's they travel so well, they're all over the place. It's it's kind of a disease. It's it's
across the United States being Cowboys fan. I'm glad I got over my disease. It is it is and they're and they're you know, they're they're not fun. They're not fun. Kind of wait, because they're you know the Cowboys. Here's the here it is, here's why, because the Cowboys haven't been good, but they think they should have should be Wait wait, wait this boat. Let me tell you this is coming from a Dodgers guy. Well, they haven't won a World Series in a thousand years until a couple
of years ago exactly. So tell you, right, So tell us a little bit about what what need what needs fixing more than anything? Obviously, you know you got you got Kyler Murray on the sidelines, and I'm gonna ask you about him in a second. But what needs fixing? Is it? Is it stuff on the field? Is it? Culture? Is it? You know? Management of the roster? I mean, where do you
think the big issue is right now? You know it was there was so many issues and they had to clean up such a mass from the previous regime that it was trucked to really kind of PenPoint. But you know, the roster is is one where it can kind of pivot in any direction. But you know, I think that the biggest thing is if there's not a whole lot of talent on this roster, and they want to be a draft and developed team, so it's gonna come via the draft next spring, so that's
where they're going to kind of expedite this rebuild that way. And then as far as the culture, there's been an extreme culture shift with this organization. You know. DJ Humphreys, their left tackle, said, uh, you know, this was a culture shock. So things have changed drastically as far as the people kind of making the decisions there for the Arizona Cardinals, and I think people are excited about, you know, the direction that it's going.
So, you know, with with a better culture in place and soon to get some better players on the roster and hopefully better drafting and developing. You know, I think that that finally some consistency you'll see through this organization going forward. That does Gannon look like he was ready for this job?
Yeah? He does. I mean he was completely prepared for this. This was a job that he turned out maybe some collegiate opportunities because he was dead set on being an NFL coach and this is this is the job that he wanted and he was prepared for it. You know, people ask, well, did he compromise his preparation for the Super Bowl? Uh? In order
to get ready for this job? And I'd say no, I mean this is a job that he'd been preparing for for his entire coaching career, and Monti Austin Ford identified him the previous summer, and he saw that he was an up and coming guy as far as leader of NFL players, and you're starting to see that, you know, he's really got the command of that locker room here in Arizona. How I don't want to go backwards, but I'm going to do it anyway. How bad of a decision was hiring Cliff
because it didn't make any sense at the beginning nor at the end. Yeah, it was a bad decision. It was one of the more unprecedented moves in NFL history to take a guy who's a failed to college coach thirty five forty at Texas Tech, fired from his alma monitor uh, and then make him an NFL coach. It was It was really one of those weird, weird moves. But you know, it really was unfortunate, and you know, it looked like it might have been the right move because you saw him
improve your year in and year out. He went three wins, the five wins, eight wins, solemn wins, and then he fell off a cliff for lack of a better term, and Max now he's the quarterback coach for USC and probably a better spot for him. Yeah, made no sense to me go ahead and ask me a question. Okay, so Kyler Murray. First of all, I'm not even get into whether or not they should have
