This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jagon Zalis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen, powered by Nova Insurance Services. Make sure your most prized possessions kat z R two SAD and iHeart Radio Station. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivero alongside partner Jagon's Oss. Welcome to Wednesday. Show should be a fun one hump day, Steve, I'm ready, man, hump Day. It's not. This hasn't been too slow, hasn't been too fast.
So we're good. Yep, we're good. You won't be Friday. You won't be here. I won't be here Friday. I got ah. It's the family memorial service that I've got to attend. So I'll be out out again on Friday. Just one of those days that you gotta take. So that said, we're gonna make our picks tomorrow, right, We're can do our our Friday picks on Thursday again. This time, I've promised I'll get them up. That's close for me, and I was happy I didn't last
week because that was so bad. I'm awful. I'm two for ten Steve's seven for ten. So I'm getting killed already and I'm okay with this. We'll wait till the end of the year when I'm probably my Champagne. Okay, no, cool, cool. We have a guest in the house, Sammy. Yeah, Sammy might join us, potential U intern for US. Uh. He doesn't know what he's getting into. He has no idea what
he's getting into. But welcome. Thanks for being here, Sammy. Hey, thank you guys for having me. And excited for what's to come. All right, we might eventually get him to stop being a journalist, trying him go to the business world. Well, Chris isn't gonna be in here, so that Oh yeah, take god, Yeah, we're already step ahead. We are, we are so anyway, the good thing is you've got
and pointed out that he was totally wrong. He was, and yeah, we got him convinced that he was wrong and saying that Arizona was supposed to be I tried to convince him, and you got him convinced because there was all his word, his verbage. Yeah, he was saying they were supposed to beat him. No they were not. Yeah they were not. They
were never supposed to beat him. They could have beat him, and some might argue say that at the in the you know, at the end of the game, they should have beat him, but they weren't supposed to be. They were ten nine and a half, ten point underdogs, these country guys. Okay, so cool, okay, uh calls today, who do we have on the should well we got we hadn't heard from Greg Hanson a couple of months. Uh, We're not gonna go back and rehash all the
stuff. I'd like to hear what he's got to say about, you know, the Wildcats right now? You know the Pac twelve. What's going on? I mean, you know the paclass twenty and three in in non conference games and uh, just you don't see what he's doing. I can assume he's still up in Colorado playing golf or whatever. Took him forever to get back to me this morning, so I figured he was. He was,
you know, out on the links. But Greg will join us, a good old friend, and then we're gonna go through a little learning uh uh, a learning session. We're gonna learn about college triathlon. We got the head coach of the Arizona women's triathlon team, West Johnson. It's a new sported Arizona. They've had their first meet and apparently it was a very good showing. They took second place in a in a meet up at a s
u as us A triathlon power I guess six national championships. So the fact that Arizona finished second to them in their first ever meet, uh, it was a pretty good deal. So we'll talk to West. So we'll we'll we'll introduce him, he'll will introduce ourselves to him, and uh, talk a little bit about what traathlon is all about. I really, I mean I had to go look it up. But you know, a traathlon is officer, you compete in three good types of events. I had to find
faut what are they? Right? Well? Really, yeah, it's it's cycling, swimming, and running. Sure, right? And uh, if you're making me exercise so I'm already tired. Yeah, it's gonna you know, I would do each of those once a month. I'm not sure I'm going to do them all within a couple of hours of each other. Give me, give me a mile on each of them. Okay, you don't give me a time limit, Steve, I still haven't gotten on my bikes since the l Tour two years ago. I don't plaids gathering doesn't. But
we're on a record pace to get them the most ever. So okay, So that's one of those guests. On the other one is well Greg and the and the graphic Greg at three fifteen West Johnson, the traathlon coach Pad four fifty. Okay, mister, okay, cool cool? What else is going on? Just they had another press press Cusha. Did they have anythings tomorrow? Yeah, we'll have Jet, We'll have je Fish tomorrows will play some clips of getting ready to go, you know, go play play U
tap you know to me Steve, the buzz around. Uh, the football team is really all about Jaden, Laura. That's all. I'm sure you know. And I'm trying to tell people what I thought we heard from Jed Fish was deal with it. Yeah, this is who he is, This is who he's gonna be. You just hope that when he when bad Jaden is out, it doesn't cost you a game, but you're gonna see bad Jaden sure probably from here until he leaves. Get the good with the bad.
You just you just do. You just hope that the good Jaden is way better than the bad Jaden is bad. Right, it comes to me and I tell you this all the time. Well, they'll learn from this, No, because if you are who he knows, Yeah, of course, should I put this ball in that place? Let me try. I'll give you a perfect example. Nine out of ten quarterbacks, nine out of ten, ten out of ten. I give you ten quarterbacks. How many are doing that sneak without permission? None of them? Exactly except for one?
Right right? What he's your quarterback? Yeah? Here, Michael Wiley. You know he's in the backfield. He did not know that was happening, and he just he and then all of a sudden he sees Jayden trying to pile through the through the line. Then he sees Kyle H. McLaughlin go up and start pushing him. So he jumps in and pushing it. So let me, let me make let me make this example, because I
know your history with you with your father. You do something, he tells you, how you do this, you're ask his mind, but you're gonna do it. Hell no, Well, let me say this. I'm glad you. I'm glad I'm gonna I did a lot of things my dad didn't know didn't know and didn't I knew he didn't want me to do, but he didn't know. Okay, but what if he would have did? And what if you would have got in trouble for it? I mean got in
trouble for it and then he found out. I you know, I'm not gonna say that I took time a lot of time in doing this, but I evaluated my risk and my reward even every time you're following run into my trump. So so now I think that Dolora knows exactly what that risk. He knows where the line. He knows where that line is. Had he not completed that, everything changes and everything changes with the game, But what
does a change with with the relationship. While you would think I would think that and that the trust factor would take a bit of a hit, I don't know how much of a trust factor. He did it without anyone, but the point being that right now jet Fish just trusts him to to to make make make decisions that work. Okay, that would happen to work, now, you know? Is it? The other way is that did his trust and Jade and Dolora increase because he made that play? This is different
though, this is different and give you a scenario. Okay, they go to the line, they're they're talking over the play before it goes to the line. He'say, coach, I have na idea if I see something catty womp us on their end, I'm gonna try this, right, I'm gonna try this. If I don't, I ain't doing this. Yeah, he didn't even go didn't do that. He just did it. But wouldn't you say, Okay, if I see And then Jenna say, but however you feel if you see it, go for it. Does that make sense?
Yeah? And I think you know, I put put myself in in more of a dad position, right. I think my kid does something like that. He does something that I probably wouldn't have given the okay, or I would have thought, but it works. I'm like, Okay, I get it. You know you didn't crash the car. Uh, you didn't screw up your life, right, right? But you know what, don't do that again? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, you know
what you do? Sure, sure, don't do that again. But do you know he's gonna well that and that and that's the that's the day, Delora that I think we all have to get used to that that he's gonna take chances. Sometimes they're gonna work and sometimes they're not, and you just hope the ones that don't work don't kill you, right right, I think that's I think, and I think that we're looking at a season long. But but think of it, Steve, were you happy that it worked?
I was. I'm like, okay, he you know, he pulled it out. Now I saw the film. I don't know if you saw the the you know, the number of replays, I don't think he ever got in, but you couldn't tell. And the rest said he was in, So that was all that mattered. So the gut one, I think that I didn't I see. I was watching where his feet were, okay, because everybody was standing straight up, nobody, you know, he didn't dig in. He went in, you know, so all you saw were feet.
His feet never got to the goal line, and with the angle that he body was, body was thinking. I don't know that he got in. And then he got the ball taken away from him and the guy and he falls into the endzle but now he doesn't have the ball. But they called it a touchdown. If they had called it no touchdown, you would have been, they wouldn't have turned it over because you couldn't see him. Yeah, well so it worked. I'm like, Okay, it worked,
but I'm kind of like the same thing. I'm like, now that I found out that nobody else was in on it, I'm like, Jaden, you maybe shouldn't do that, or at least he said, tell, you know, tell Jed you know if if if there's an opening, I'm taking it and he and Jed says okay, sure, then you go right right, So there's that trust factor. Jayden didn't tell him and he didn't know, nobody knew. How's that trust factor? I would have said to coach, there might be a chance where I might do this and and I hope
what do you think? And Jed would have says, well, just kind of okay. If you think that your confident, don't have to get in you can do it, right. But that didn't happen. That didn't happen. That could have borrow the keys. You're crazy. Yeah, I've seen you drive. Hey Dad, I'm gonna go ring this doorbell and run. What do you think You better hope they don't have a door dash thing doorbell? Yeah, you can't do that. You can't do that kind of stuff.
You get caught. But you know again, you know just what what you know, it's my Wednesday launch. We talked about the game, We talked about everything, and all of the conversation was about Laura and it's gonna be. I don't think you've had a quarterback like him. We talked about this right never. I still think Khalil just kind of Cli wasn't okay, but Click wasn't a gambler. Well, I don't know, but I don't
I don't feel I don't know. I don't know about that because here's the guy who wanted to pass, I know, but all of them, but all those runs that he made, you know, the sea, the sea parted for him, But they were those weren't you know, gambles except for the issue game when he got hurt on the shoulder before you But yeah, but you know, in terms of a guy that just you know, thinks he can make all these plays and sometimes he can and sometimes he can't.
I don't recall a guy like that. I mean, I guess i'd go back to you wouldn't You wouldn't even seen him? Was Tom Tounecliff who you know who limited athletic ability, short guy, but a good quarterback. He was a good, good, solid quarterback, a very smart quarterback. If you if I you know, if you want me to rank quarterbacks in terms of you know, how I think they saw the field and their intelligence on the field. You know, you gotta go to guys like ton of Cliff,
Nick Foles. But Johnson Tom Toncliff was you know, was that kind of guy. But he didn't have Jane Delord's athletic ability to do the things that Jane Delord's. But he would make throws that you thought you saw him winding up to throw. He said, don't throw that, and then he would throw it. So, Sammy, you're a young dude. You played ball probably what's Woodwood sports pretty much? So you you know the deal.
You you work for the PGA. You know some of those big ego guys, there's not anything they can't do, right, They've been doing this. No one's gonna tell him no. So this is Jaden's been this guy all his life, right, no one's gonna tell him. I could I could pull this off him just to be a little to use a golf thing. Tiger Woods never never saw a shot that he didn't think he could Yeah, because he was that guy. Well, I think you can look at Jordan
Spi, I mean he's the main guy. Him and him and his caddie go back and forth all the time, and at the end of the day, Jordan will hit the shot that he wants to hit before the caddy will get in his ear. And half the time he's good enough to make that shot work. But there's a handful of time it doesn't, right, Sure, But that's the ego in them, This is you can pull this off. And there are a lot of golfers like that, right those guys are you know there the best, the best they see a shot and they they
see something we don't see and they hit that shot. And you know, the great ones make the shots all the time, and the bad ones are you know, on the corn face. You also don't know the limitations, right, they don't. There's a there's a saying there's there's no golf shot. A golfer doesn't think you can't hit. I'm dude, I do that. I'm sitting there and I've got I've got ten feet between two trees where
i could chip straight out left, get back on the fairway. I'm going between the trees because I think I can make that shot and then I hit the tree every time, well every time. It doesn't surprise you. Come on, That's that's the way it is. But but you know, I again, we're you know, we're uh, I'm I'm I'm dating myself, you know, more and more towards Okay, just you know, close your eyes sometimes and see what happens and hope, hope for the best, you
know. And and Steve, there's gonna be times when you're gonna want that. You know, You're you're playing against Washington. You you know, you need a guy to make a play, and nobody's making plays and Jane Delord makes a play and you go, I'm glad we have it, right. I mean, I feel like that. That's what it's going to kind of be like here the rest of this year with with de Laura. Okay, yeah, uh you want to take the break out. We're just about a
few seconds ahad. Yeah, so yeah, yeah, we're gonna get Greg Hanson in. We'll talk about all the stuff going on and uh, just you know, getting some of his thoughts. I'm I'm guessing he'll watch the game because it's still it's not a job, but he's still you know, talking about the wildcats and stuff. So see what what what he's got to say, and uh, where things are at. And then again you know, to maybe talk a little bit about the PAC twelve they're having they're having
a huge year. Uh and the and the SEC on the flip side is looking down. So we'll talk to Greg Hanson here in a couple of minutes. So stick around. Greg you're there, Yeah, how you're doing. We're trying to call you. It's just like, oh
no three men a baby. No, it was our fault. I kept saying this called can I go? Can I be completed? So do I hate? It's us? It's our Do I hate you? And you're probably living in the seventy two degrees so you stop in Colorado? Man, Yeah, it wasn't. It was fifty eight today. I'm cold. It's supposed to snow. I heard sometimes it's on the top of the mountain yet almost time to pack. Do you just not even live here anymore? Do you just like to come here like a couple of weekends a year. What's your
deal? No, man, I'm mister Tucson him. I'll be there in about two weeks. Okay, all right, you're not miss much. Hundred and two. I heard it was raining today in the middle of the day. My sister got her roof torn off in Scottsdale last night. The rich people problems. Oh wow, yeah. Yeah. So anyway, hey man, so what are you up to you? I'm I'm I'm I'm assuming you're watching what's going on out there with with Colorado, with Arizona with the pac
twelve. Oh yeah, you know, first of all, let's talk about Arizona. You watch the game Saturday, But where do you think they are? You know, with this whole thing about Jaden Delora and he's, you know, the gun slinger and I call him bad Jayden comes out and all that kind of stuff, some of your thoughts and all that. I thought by the fourth quarter and after that that Arizona had the better team. They
just obviously, you know, I couldn't pull it off. But after that first quarter, I thought the boy Arizona is actually the superior club here. And I couldn't turn out that way. But I still think Jaden Delora is really when there was going to had a better quarterback than Jane Delora ex said
Nick Foles. Well, we were just talking about that, and I threw it back to you know, I'm trying to think of a guy who just a type of Yeah, who was the type of quarterback who got back there and felt that he could make every throw, whether he could or not. I threw it all the way back to Tom Tunecliff that, you know, because he threw a ton of interceptions. You remember that, Yeah, I do remember that. Why do you do that? Because he because he thought
he could make the throw. There's your guy, Jane, there's it's a good pick. Yeah to Jane knew him and I knew him. I was the beat man man. He was just he was a self believer. He was like five eleven if that, and he just was tough as nails. I mean, how many big time games did Tom pull out? Beat number one USC beat number two, UCLA knocked off a su when they were going to the Rose Bowl, in nineteen eighties, eighties too, but he had
nowhere near the physical tools that do. Laura asked, right again, if you were the beat guy, what was the underlying thing about Tom that struck you? And I'm hoping you answer how I was asking a question. Well, those those Larry Smith's teams were built on toughness. Yeah, there was no finesse, and Tom was tough. I don't think he ever missed the game. In fact, I'm sure he didn't miss the game. And he was knocked around, knocked down. But I remember the first first time I
ever talked to him in person. I was bigger than him. I couldn't believe it, and he was just gutty and I was a winner. And of course he wasn't NFL material, and it wasn't anywhere near as fast as do Laura didn't have the arm do Laura asked, But that's who I think. The Lord just has the the dare in him the ton of Cliff had. That's great. I was thinking, confident, that was the word I was. Dare. Yeah, the dare the fearlessness they believe in himself.
And yeah, I mean that's that, That's what it seems to me. Is that, you know, he doesn't have any fear about stuff, and sometimes you wish he had a little bit of fear, you know, in a couple of things. I know Jed tried to tell, you know, tell us on on Monday that some of those throws weren't bad. They all the picks looked bad, you know, they were late that he threw the you know, he tried to say, well, the defensive back made a great play on on one. Well, he never should have thrown the ball
there. You know, it was a deep pass and the guy was bracketed and and he threw it in and he tried to, you know, squeeze it in there, and it got picked off. And yet I thought his worst passid the night was when he missed cowing and the overtime when he was wide open he could have taken into inside the tenny arm line. He really wasn't under pressure. He just missed the pass. But how about him trying
that quarterbacks to make nobody know about we're we're just talking about that. I mean, come on, the when I say you're ten, I'll give me to give you ten quarterbacks, Jake, how about Jay Greg? How many you're going to actually do that, man zero. You know, you couldn't tell watching TV. It looked like a called play and the announcers were didn't really know what was going on. The only one that did was Jake I know. I mean, the offensive lineman didn't even know enough to push him
in the end zone for a while. Yeah right, And I still don't think he got in. I still don't think he ever got across the line, but you couldn't tell. And then they called it a touchdown, touchdown, so that that was it. But you know, I'm trying to get the people that I'm talking to, and you know, the crowd that I talked about about. Guys, get used to this, get used to the fact that Delora the rest of the season is going to be the guy who
takes risks. He's gonna make some throws that you're gonna hate, and then he's gonna that you're gonna hate that that turn out to be bad, and now you're gonna hate and turn out to be good. You just hope that the bad ones don't kill you. I mean you, I feel like that's
what we're dealing with. I think it one I think at least one or two Saturdays this year he's gonna pull off a colossal upset over like a Washington or not USC or an Oregon. And then maybe the other day he's gonna lose the Oregon State or Washington State because of the same stuff, No question, no question. But he's in't that typical Arizona quarterback throughout the years? Bingo? God, I kind of hate that. Yeah, I kind of hate that. That's how it's always been, right, well right, the
expectations again. It's like, oh god, here we go again. Yeah, I hate I hate seeing you guys suffer. No, you don't know, you don't. You take so much pleasure in it. No, I do it. I just say, you know, these guys need to change the leasion. Have you have your overall impressions of in these first two games? I know you know, any of you. I don't know how much we learned. You saw this this uh Mississippi State game. Are your impressions of the team as a whole kind of where they were going in? You
think they changed a little bit? You think, wow, with what they did against Mississippi State, even though they didn't win them, maybe they're better than you thought they were going to be. Where were you at on that. I think you're about exactly where I I thought they might be. I was wondering when they would take advantage of team acting. And I think all of us, anyone who watching that game last week, thought this guy is
really, really, really special. I mean, what if you did what if you didn't tip co out of bounce in the last series, he would have had to have been the best the pactball player of the week. Yeah, even ahead of the Colorado guys. Yeah, because you gonna win on the road, you know, in a game like that in the end, in the SEC and not against one of the SEC scrubs, right, one of you know, one of the good teams in the league. So yeah,
I thought that. I just thought that was a game that got away that they they would win if they played again, and they would definitely beat him in Tucson. And maybe now they know, I'm looking back at we should have won that game, and maybe it'll help them when they go when they play Washington in two weeks. Yea, all right, you're up in Colorado. I was going to do, you're up there? U is that thing spread out all over the state? I mean, are you is it
just NonStop conversation about these guys. I mean, what are you what are you experiencing up there with them? Well, in previous years, I never heard one single word about Colorado football in with the guys I play with in golf. And last week I was playing this guy named Jamie McCoy who's a CEU grad, and I was asking about him, and I said, are you going to go to the game against Nebraska? And he goes, I paid fifteen hundred dollars each for two tickets yesterday. Wow. So yeah,
I mean, it's a buzz. You can imagine if Arizona since was swishing, it was Arizona. Deon Sanders was at guys who never said a word about him, they're talking about him all the time. Well, and I was. I was looking at it. Think Jody Ailer today he's ripping ASU for not going after him when they you know, when they had the chance. And he compared to say you went after herm Edwards. Yeah, but and you know you stretch, you stretch yourself to take him. But you
thought Dean Sanders was a risk? What the hell are you doing? But guys, but guys who knew, I mean, come on, you're taking him who knew. I mean, it's like Betty five bucks on a roulette wheel for number one, number one and hoping number one comes in. Did you want remember last year when Jackson State was in that playership game, Yeah, their bowl game. I remember watching that game and I didn't come away thinking it was any special. And Shader the quarterback, I can't even remember
him in that game. And suddenly she's as good as any quarterback in the league. Man, But let's see, let's see what happens when they play USC and when they play USC in Oregon back to back. That's the whole thing. I don't want to poo poo that, but come on, I'm gonna ask you, Jay, you're gonna take the chance twelve months ago? Are you gonna take the chance? Well, and not because he's whatever,
But you don't know this is gonna happen. You don't, Yeah, you know, No, you don't know, all right, you don't know what you don't know. But but when you put it in the context of what did they know about her Edwards being a college? Right, they went ahead and took her Edwards, But they didn't think that they you know, they thought, you know, Jan Sanders was more of a risk and they had nothing, didn't even try. Greg, are you taking this chance? Well?
I just think back to how many bad head coaches have been hired just in the PAC twelve. I mean, starting with Kevin someone number one. Why don't ever take a retrout again? You don't take a chance with Deon Sanders, right, or take a chance with Jed Fish? Yeah? I mean who I mean? Who I mean? What was the reaction when they went and got Jed Fish? We all lost our minds exactly. And I'm
not saying that he's he's not. We don't know if he's going to be the greatest coach in Arizona history, but he's on a nice trajectory so far. Can you imagine if they had hired Brent Brennan instead, he wouldn't have done any of this off the field stuff that Fish does to row as support in the community and to recruit, Like can you imagine Brent brannon recruiting team making those guys no way? Yeah, I hear you, yeah right, yeah? No? And I mean, Greg, there were forty five thousand
or more at the NAU game. It was a legit crowd. Well they announced forty eight. It wasn't forty eight, but it was forty five. It really was. By the time you know, how we are, right, the fans show up in the middle of the first quarter. By the time it filled in, there were a good forty five thousand there. I thought, I don't know if you thought that. Yeah, yeah, I guess it's too late of a game. It's an eight o'clock game. You
lose some people right there. You're greg by first quarter. Man doesn't come on here exactly, It's my point. But no, you know, but but again, you know, but still the fact that it was even forty thousand, like you know, against an Au you know, on a hot you know, Saturday night, on Labor Day weekend, right, So yeah, I mean, you know, again you don't know, and you're right, I mean nobody, I mean, did Colorado hope something. Colorado couldn't
even imagine that this was going to happen. I mean, they got you know, best case scenario was that he draw some interest that be in the conversation because he was Dion Sanders, but not that they would be doing. You're talking about the guy who's a program that was at the bottom bottom bottom. What what's what could they lose right exactly. I mean they rolled the
dice because they had nothing right exactly. So I go in the I go on the local library here about twice a week to read the Denver Post sports section. And in previous years you you never saw a Colorado football story, page six maybe, and now it's it's all over. I mean, it's above the it's above the Broncos. It's unbelievable. The Broncos are bad. We'll see it's gonna be fun because well wait, wait, I can't remember.
If we had you before the years started and I asked, or did I ask you how many wins they had in them Arizona, I would have said seven. Man, you are drinking the cores up in THEAD. I had five. I had five, ma six. But now Colorado was Colorado is not one of those gwins? Now, will you can't mark it down like you you're like you thought you could for sure? Do you want to revise? I would revise, not to six. Okay, I don't think
they'll be Colorado unless Shader Standards is injured. Yeah, then it's up there and it's up there. Yeah okay, Well we'll be safe coming back, so you'll be here for the Washington game. Where is that what we're hearing? Yeah, I wanted to say something to ruin Jay's day. Oh god, it's the golf course today. We have a home and home against the men's club from Lakewood Country Club. And guess who's in their country club and played here's a Goose gossage. Oh no. But I finally got up enough
courage and I went over and said, thank you for nineteen seventy. Well, you know what you just did, ruin this whole thing, and we're just gonna we're just gonna hang up on you now. Who's nice knowing you'll never be back on the show now, I'm sorry, not for a while. Yankees in the last place. Anyways, maybe we will, all right, Greg, Hey, thanks a much, man, Stay cool up there, be safe doctor later. Thank you. Guys. Hey, do you ever read? Do you ever read? How many reads you today? Okay?

I think DC Baltimore. Yeah wow. So he just chimed in, thank you for listening on the iHeart up. So so okay. I saw on sports betting time dot com that the Dolphins on there on some who are whatever sports book thereies you are now the favorite to win the AFC. I'm looking at Draft Kings. It's still the Chiefs, the Bills, Yeah, then the Dolphins. What would that be because the Chiefs are partly a five to
one, four thirty three forty fourth row even after the loss. Yeah, Oh that was just that, just something that happened that Yeah, it was that messed me up. I wrecked my whole weekend. Steve started Thursday, It started Thursday night, and it never got better. It never got the game you hit, I hit Oklahoma. Oh yeah, they barely covered by half a point. They were not. I was I was looking at the score and they were only up. I think they were up three with like
middle of the fourth quarter, and they scored two touchdow. I said that before the week, I thought last week's games were weird because they're obvious, obvious covers for that obvious, and they were not. They were not. They were not. Then this week it's just like a terrible college football schedule. Yeah, but at least, you know, and you know, I was hoping that our special game this week would have been the Jets and the
Cowboys until until Aaron Rodgers got hurt. Bengals Ravens Okay, should be Bengals got beat. But they're at home now and their favorite. The Ravens are pretty good. Ravens are pretty good. Yeah, they're not among the leap, but we're going Bengal. We're going Ravens Bengals at the Bengals right now. The last I saw, Bengals were a three point favorite. Okay, so I think Burrow was horrible. But the only game really of any interest
I know there's a lot of interest in the Colorado Colorado State. Did you see that both the Fox pregame show and Game Day are gonna be at Colorado. Fox was there last week? Yeah, Yeah, they were there last week too, sure, and it's Colorado, Colorado State anyway. If there's anything, He's brought ratings to a lot of things. Yeah. But the only really other game of any consequence I think is the Washington Michigan state game. And uh and last I saw, Washington is a pretty big favorite.
But they're on the road, so who knows what the hell is Gonnachian State. Their situations, you know, and it's to me that's a that's a completely stay away from game because you don't know if they can't come out fire, if you're they're gonna come out, you know, their seasons over already or how they're gonna come out of that. But uh, you know it, I think I'm trying to look up this line. I believe it was. It was sixteen and a half or fourteen and a half or some number
like that. Uh, it's a it's app Michigan State. So that's the first thing. It's it's sixteen. Washington is a sixteen point favorite app Michigan State. So other than that, it's it's an awful schedule the following week. Next week, it's a great schedule. You got Ohause State and Order Dame, you got Colorado and Oregon. There's a whole bunch of games. So we'll we'll pick one of those for our special next week. But yeah, we're gonna be doing our fab five Friday picks on Thursday again this week
because I will be out again on Friday. We can Steve your boss was like, my boss doesn't know who my boss is. That that's an issue. Interesting conversation I heard this morning. I was listening to the to the College College Football in Choir. Dan Wetzel, Pad forty and Ross Dellinger and Dan Wetson went out and did a bunch of re chearch which is unusual for
him. But but basically it was going through because because remember with the transfer portal and and all this stuff, you know, all the a lot of the coaches are saying, it's gonna it's ruined, it's gonna ruin college football. The rich are gonna get richer, the poor are gonna get poor. It's gonna suck for everybody. Well, he went and did a study, not a study, you know, it's a research on where recruits are going, all right, And what he's found is that the recruits are spreading out
more than they were, partly because of NIL. Right that Whereas whereas you know, like you said, as an example, he said, the third only thirty four of the top forty recruits from I think he said, rivals are two four seven sports have committed nine They've gone to nineteen different schools. Whereas in the in the general year, where it's you know, one team is getting you know, all all the all the recruits. That of the top forty, they generally spread around to only twelve to fifteen teams. So
players, probably because of NIL, are going all over the place. Now
Alabama's not getting them all, George is not getting them all. And and the recruiting rankings, the gap, you know, the scores that they give, the gap is closing between the top, you know, and then you get down to ten, fifteen, twenty, that it's closing that and essentially saying that there's more parody in recruiting than there ever has been recruiting, because you're including that in the recruiting right, and then when you throw in the
transfer portal, how an Alabama can't stockpile, you know, to a tongue of Iloa and Jalen Hurts and you know all these quarterbacks, you know, Bryce Young or whatever that now Alabama essentially doesn't have a quarterback right now because because a quarterback doesn't play, he leaves. Yeah, right, you know Jalen Hurts left. Uh, you know, a quarterbacks leave when they So,
now Alabama doesn't have a quarterback. Then two or three games this year, they've already lost one and and you know they lost one at home, you know, Texas and m has lost a game at home. So for essentially what they were saying and what I agree with, because look how quickly Arizon has been able to rebuild. Look at how Colorado is able to rebuild.
You wouldn't have been able to do that without the transfer portal, and then without you know, being able to go out and get recruits that otherwise weren't available to you because they just went to Alabama and Georgia High State in Michigan. I'm curious, and good stuff, I'm curious. Of the two thousand people who transferred, I'm sure there was more than that, right,
how many didn't end up anywhere? Yeah, because there's not enough places to go and have phil rosters and in your mind you're thinking I'm good enough to play here or there, but maybe not. Well, how many of them just ended up staying where they were because you can enter the transfer portal, you don't get picked up, you know, stay if they you know, would you want one of those guys? You know, you know, it
depends, Okay, he's good? No. Well, if if I thought the player thought he had an like like if I'm at Darian Singer, No, no, no, okay, if he had entered the transfer portal, tried to get you know, tried to get a US here in a house state away and none of them took him, and he wanted to come back, I'm saying, welcome back, okay, okay, right, because let me give you somebody a little less than that. Somebody like that, okay, okay, looked into the portal, didn't know Tommy Lloyd, you know
whatever. And you know he came back and I was fine with that now, you know, uh, you know last year when when he got into transfer portal, to me, that was all Tommy. I think I think he understood that, you know, his days here we were pretty much over that. They were bringing in guys that you know, he was he need. So, you know, a lot of a lot of that depends.
I'll tell you what, if Kurt Chrissa had come back, I wouldn't have had a problem with that again either, you know, so it part of part of it depends if if I feel like the guy wasn't just looking for a ladder or just want to get the hell out because he didn't feel like he was getting enough playing time, then go. If you don't want to
be here, then go. But you know, if a guy like like a Dorian Singer wanted to try and get in at USC or AHU State or whatever and then it just didn't work out, I'd take him with open arms, because when he's good and two. I felt like he was trying to better himself. I mean, like, look, I mean I you know, I supervise people, and if they if I found out they were looking for a job, but they were looking for a job at a place that was better than where they were, I had no problem with that. Did
that happen? No, because everybody loved me. Welcome to the show. That's not real, right, Yeah, I think the betterment argument is a great point. Singer is going to go play with Caleb Williams, and not to say Delora, like we talked about earlier, isn't a great quarterback and can't get you the ball, but Caleb Williams is an all time talent, and so to go play with him a huge state. They're fifth best team exactly, and now he's gonna be a draft pick. Yeah. So I
know. It's not to say he wouldn't have been here, sure, sure, but more visible. Yeah, you're going you're going after the prettier girl exactly to be kind of stupid with that, but yeah, exactly. He may have been a fifth round pick if he stayed here, and now he could be a second third round pick. Yeah, good enough. I Yeah, so you know I mean again, it depends on the circumstance and everyone probably probably a little bit different than good enough. You said, okay,
good take care of thanks. Right, And if you say okay, you suck and I don't want you back, well then you know, go go play a thousand state or whatever, right, well where that come from, You'll play in Jackson State. I know what I consider, you know, I know what you say. All right, let's say here break, we'll be back. We've got some breaking news. We'll see how much drinking come up with between now and the top of the hours, and stick around.
