Breaking down the hall, the ex's and alls. It's Steve Rivera and Jagen Salmons. This is I on the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen. Hey, welcome back to I'm the Ball, your own Fox Sports fourteen to fifteen. I'm Steve, He's Jake. That's Sammy with breaking news. But first, what are you too degenerate? Stuck? Then we do have some breaking That was my breaking Go ahead, Okay, go ahead, go ahead there on the ball breaking news. Yeah, turn out, there we go, so
breaking news. At the break, Jay and I have updated our bet. We're doing two separate bets, one on the total of the game under one the over. You have the under one fifty five and then ten bucks ten bucks, and then we decided to go you have a under seventy two points. Uh. Jay's on the over, I'm on the under. I'm not saying you've a can't win or won't win, but I think seventy two points at Cameron in Door for the first time in a long time is a lot
points. Okay, and I'm confident that they're going to get to eighty, but I'll go seventy two over. That's fair, all right? Tell me. I always like to do with those. Yep, we love it. We will keep it posted and maybe I'll be using that money this weekend and then I and then I will I will put out my put out my bet on the over under because I'm gonna I'm taking I'm taking the over fifty two and a half. When I go to Vegas, I'll show my ticket to you, guys. Good. I love it even more. But the college
football playoff rankings came out last night. Nothing changed in the top four, but they did have Arizona two spots ahead of the AP at twenty one. So I found that a little interesting in it. It kind of is food for thought of if we do get to ten wins, or if we do win out and get to nine wins before a bowl game. In this theoretical world of Oh, next year's the twelve team playoff. If you have a does win out, could they find themselves in the twelve or higher to end
the year? Well, yes, we'll go ahead. Yes, no, the simple word yes, because we've talked about the competition in the Big twelve, right, Arizona will be, you know, in the top half of the league right when they get in. Plus, they're gonna be good right, plus are gonna be good if all things turn out to be okay, you know return. I mean, it's funny because you look at it right now and you go, you know, when Arizona goes over there next year,
you're thinking Oklahoma States having a great year. They be they started out okay, went in the tank for a little bit, if come back. They beat Oklahoma last week. But when you think about who who are you gonna look at the schedule and go, hmmm, I don't know that, you know, that's gonna be a tough, you know, tough team or some You think of Oklahoma State and Utah and that's it. Kansas State, I think, yeah, but yeah, but you know, Kansas State,
Kansas State and Kansas are Arizona in that regard. They can have a good year, none of those they don't sustain it. You know, they can have a good season, but the program doesn't ever sustain, just like Arizona never has. You know, they've been good a couple of years. Yeah, you know, but I'm gonna say it this way, Kansas State and Kansas don't scare me. Yeah that's fair. I think Oklahoma State is the
team Gundhy's had that program really really good for a while. Yeah. And the team that's been bad recently but has had historically been okay, it's Texas Tech. So we'll see if the we'll see yeah exactly, and it's exciting. But I do think if U of A does went out, especially beat Utah, top twelve is definitely on the table, depending on what else happens, right, and that'd be a shame. That'd be fun to time. It would theoretically who would be playing the prayoff? But YOUUVE is also one
of the only three teams to be ranked in basketball in football currently. The other two were Alabama and Texas, which I found pretty interesting. So U of a sports, especially football basketballer, who I didn't see the number ste Who's the number twenty on that list? Do you have the list twenty? I can pull because I saw I was twenty two when I'm taking leads. That's that's my point. I mean, if you're twenty one and I was twenty two, how good is that list at twenty? Well, that's Tulayane's
twenty three. I think they don't they don't make anything big. I was twenty two. Notre Dame is twenty Okay, they've lost three games, right, Yeah, when when you get into that neighborhood drops at eleven, you got Louisville, Oregon State still at twelve, which yeah, you know, yeah, I know that seems high. Tennessee, Missouri at fourteen, Oklahoma State fifteen, Kansas sixteen. Oklahoma's dropped to seventeen, Utah eighteen, LSU nineteen, Notre Dame twenty, Arizona twenty one, Iowa twenty two, to
Lane, North Carolina, and Kansas State. Yeah, that's the neighborhood that Arizona belongs in. Yeah, yeah, no, truly, it is the neighborhood that Arizon to be long. Yeah right now, right now, it doesn't seem like like but they do. Yeh. I'm saying they should be higher than that. Well, it's surprising to hear that they're in there, right, come on, who thought this was coming? What's today? November, October, September, August? Come on, if we're talking about we
did in August, they're gonna win five? I was thinking we're just saying, how are they going to get to six wins? Right? I mean, you had to be a real optimist, Jake, Jake me to think that they were going to get to six wins. You know, on the surface, it didn't look like there were six wins in there. Something surprising had to happen. And then Colorado. Colorado plays out of its mind, you thinking they're not going to get to, say, get six, and
then they win the games that we thought they needed to win. Yeah, go after the USC and Washington. Their record was what we thought it was going to be. They were going to be three and three at that point, and that's what we expected. And the three the three wins and the three losses were the three wins and three losses that we predicted. Well, nobody expected was three ranked teams in front of them. They were going to
beat them all and convincingly. Yeah, the difference was our record was our record, but the play on the field, especially against USC and even that you hung around against Washington, you had a feeling that these next three or four weeks, you just gotta oh we got a car. Yeah, let's take this. Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. Hey, you know, I just wanted to talk about pretty crazy that the accomplishments were making a football right now are with a bunch of red shirt freshmen
freshmen and sophomores. Right, you know, when you look at the next couple of years, barring Jetfish potentially leaving and or the transfer portal fighting plucking McMillan, let's say maybe Moni is something like that. And a big part of this is Moni's staying healthy because he really is the engine that makes the defense wrong. From my perspective, that is true. And Jet asked asked that question, lat because that recruiting class has been fantastic. Yeah, Well,
he's talked about the twenty twenty two recruiting class. One because they came here when there was nothing to hang their hat on. They were being recruited during the one and eleven season, and then two that they all came and actually turned out to be what they hoped they were going to be. Well, you look at and you look at all of it. You know the model is Utah, Right. I look at Arizona, when I look at Oregon State, they look a lot like a you to framework of how to
play football. Uh. Special teams are solid, uh strongest because I mean we're pushing dudes off the ball on both sides of the ball, and we're getting pressure with former and our offensive line is a problem. I mean, it's when was the last time that you could say any of those things on any level about Arizona football A long time ago. A long time ago. I mean we're talking you know, even in Stoops era. Stoops era would
be you know, last time I thought that we could be physical. But even still, I mean, it's a product of being welcome, developing count and you know me, I'll put it this way. We're playing Duke on Friday, and a lot of us are still on football right now exactly, And that's what's crazy to me. So which is the game? Which game is bigger this weekend? A well proceeding purposes? This is his game at Yeah, dude, you win that. That helps you become a one or
two seats. So from that perspective, it's a bigger game. From the standpoint of the Vapian, it's still going to Duke. I'm going to do it. You're winning a Duke. That's that's not just you any of a fan and and really you want to be Duke, you do so. But with that said, you know, the football program borring anything crazy acting with the transfer portal, it's they're building it the right way. They've got good coaching. They're spending money on the infrastructure on it to make sure that it's
run right, that they can pay the coaches. Right. It's been awful fun to watch. I didn't think we could run pro style offense here. I really do not think we're going to be able to recruit pro style offense. And we are dominating teams right now. It's we're dominating teams. Yes, yes, that that. The game last week was an ask kicking. It wasn't It wasn't a fluke. It was in Arizona got lucky. Arizona was just better and they beat the hell out And the week before they played
so sound and structured. You know, it was just so you know, Washington State. That's when I started to believe. And that was a pretty impressive game, right the second game was even more impressive, and then last
week was even more impressive. Yeah, every week, but you've got you've got a quarterback Day does basically he executes the whole vision of the program, which is all control on offense with you know, play action and run, control the crock a little bit, rester defense, rotate a lot of players. Next year, defense is rested and strong, I mean when he's executing, he's for forty four for fifty six on third downs. Yeah, I mean that's a crazy statistic, crazy numbers, lots of the exciting for and
let's go on to dude can get a victory? Boys, sounds good man. Could be a big week Yeah, big weekend. Hey, thanks for the colle You appreciate good stuff, all right? Makes that good come? Yeah? Really could be yeah all time. Well, there's no you know what, there's no wrong answer to that question. Ste right to the Duke. You know, Colorado game question. Neither one's wrong answer because again, it is Arizona Duke. No if Ari Zone was playing Tennessee or even Texas
Tech or something like that. Okay, okay, yeah that's a big game. But it's Duke. And you're right if somebody said, you know, if somebody says, you know, Duke's the big, bigger deal, you really can't argue that either. It's a it's a matter of you know, which is more important to you as to me. I think the Colorado game is a bigger deal because it keeps the ball rolling on what's been a great
season already. And I think the majority of Tucson would say the Colorado game, given that if they lose this game, it feels like the train is kind of stopped right as opposed to, Okay, this is the second game of the basketball sea you're at Duke. You lose that game, so what it's going to the next one. If you win, it's a oh we beat Duke. But if you have a football loseres to a what's now pretty disappointing Colorado team, it goes, oh, were the what were those three
games? And then you and then you host Utah and it's like, are we going to get crushed? Like so that it should be interesting. But speaking of the Utah game, we talked about it before the show. It's probably not gonna happen. But if Utah beats Washington this weekend, will probably be a top twelve team. If you have a wins, maybe they move up a couple of rankings. Maybe TWU songs hosting College Game Day next Saturday. Wow you heard fifteen? You heard that somewhere and I, you know,
don't do that to me. I know, but like it could you know it could? Well, it's not hot and it's more a product of it's not a great football schedule. It's not a great college schedule. Next Saturday, a week from Saturday. All the you know, all the great games are the following week, right, what we call rivalry weekend with well House Day, Michigan, Auburn, Alabama. You know, all those games on Thanksgiving weekend. So who knows, man, maybe maybe you know what,
let's throw it out there. You heard it, and I on the ball, and we're starting the rumor that game day could be here next week if all things falling, let's do that. Yeah, let's do it. Rumors. Yeah, but like we might as well just do it. You wouldn't want college game day here. I'm sleeping through that in the morning, big weenie. I've been to both of them. I haven't been to the football ones. We got our sign taken away at the at the Oregon one
that had a great sign. That's something I need. It said. It said, no ducking way, what right? You know it's kinda today. They wouldn't and the and the A and way was the was the it was? I mean it was a professionally done something. Well I professionally did it. You were well, we had we had it made. Oh wow, we actually had it made. And we got we got it on a couple of times, but then they saw it and they took it away from us.
Dang, all right, well that's enough college football. College basketball talks. Enough about Arizona Duke Michigan's date lost. I'm sure you guys talked about it yesterday. James Madison will make the rest of this quick. Kyler Murray will start. According to the Cardinals, Will Levis has taking over Ryan Tannehill's job, which is I think fair. I think if you're the Titan, you want to know who's wrong with Ryan Tannehill. I can take what went
wrong with Ryan Tannehill. I got him on my fancy and then and then and then lastly, Carson Wentz is back in the NFL with the Rams. He's probably better than Stafford. Is he going to start? I don't know if he's going to start. Ripen I think is the guy they have right now ripping, and they got crushed this last week. They did They're no good. And then two things on the NBA, the NBA two minute last two minute report. I don't know if you guys pay attention to that.
The refs go and they analyzed their last two minutes of reffing. They came out and said they missed a bunch of calls in their most recent Lakers game with Lebron. I just don't think they should have that in general, I want to do that. Yeah, no, one, we don't have that. Last we don't need to know it. Go aheadry dood, but don't tell us. And then Bradley Beal should make his son's debut tonight against the Bulls. Could be good, it could be could be big for us,
and then I know what, we can talk about it later. We got forty seconds, but it wasn't national signing. Yeah, there's a bunch of stuff. Well we'll get to that. I'm good, How are you fine? Thank you? What a fantastic career you had, saving goals, kissing babies,
shaking hands. How was it for you? Thank you? Yeah, it was the best experience of my life being able to play for you, BA, like it was the dream come true. And I feel really at peace of how everything turned out. It was a great experience, and I'm really proud of what's happened along the way. So, so you grew up here, went to CEO. As I mentioned off air, I remember you running around thank Gregory Jim when your mom was working over there. So you've got
a history here in town. As you said, you know, dream come true to play for Arizona. First of all, tell us you know when did soccer become the sport? Right? Because you know your dad's a baseball coach, you know, you know us. You know, small minded people think, well, then you're going to be a softball player. But at some point soccer became your sport. How did that happen at a young age.
Yeah, I played a lot of different sports growing up. I played softball, basketball, volleyball, even a bit of like flag football and stuff. Just I didn't actually diversify into soccer specifically until my later years of high school. I always played club soccer. That was the one club sport that I've played, And as far as college recruiting goes, this is very heavily reliant on club sports. So that was kind of what propelled me to choose
it to play in college. But I still played basketball and volleyball going into high school, and yeah, I tried to not diver I tried to diversify what I played as much as possible, making sure that you know, I didn't get burnt out right, you know, just focused on one thing. It's funny because we have this discussion every now and again, Jay and I, where you have kids who are doing one sport all year round and how
good they become or whatever. But you're an example of doing a lot of different things, probably becoming a better overall athlete, and then your playing goalie. So I guess there's a debate for both ways. Yeah, there's definitely a debate, but I would argue that, like I see it with my friends, who I think probably specialized a bit too early, they get burnt out a lot sooner than say, you know, people who play multiple sports
later on into their high school careers. I think it's also, like you said, it's great cross training, and it just gives you a different perspective because you're on multiple different teams with different types of personalities. And I think that it's really beneficial for kids his parents to continue to play as many sports as they can for as long as they want to. So at some point you're playing club soccer. Now you're starting to get recruited. When did Arizona
enter the picture? And once they did, was that kind of it or where else did you think about going? My recruiting process started very early. I was a freshman in high school. It was before the rule change, so you could recruit like people were getting recruited in eighth grade pretty much.
But I was a freshman in high school and Paul Magee, who was the former University of Arizona goalkeeper coach and current director of goalkeeping net stts On Youth Now he you know, approached me and started recruiting me and I went on a visit to campus, and like, the goal was to play college at as high a level as I could and have a real shot at being able to play and make an impact on a program. And I felt like Arizona gave me the best chance to do that, and so I made a pretty
big decision when I was fifteen years old. I hadn't gone on any other visits, but it just felt like the right thing in the right place to be. So that's kind of how it all transpires. You and you played right away. I mean you you started right away, right, didn't you? Your freshman year and I had a great, great accomplishments. I mean, were you surprised even but you know, did you spray yourself even at the beginning when you were starting right away? Like I said, I wanted
to go to a program where that was a good opportunity for me. So I knew that if I put in the hard work and I extaally did what I needed to do, that I would have the potential to be the starter my freshman year. So that was something that was a big goal for me freshman year, was to become the starter. And I was able to achieve that. So yeah, that basically that was a goal of mine my freshman year coming in, and I knew it was very real possibility, and it's
one of the reasons I chose to come there. So let's talk about your time in Arizona and being a goalie. You know, you're you're you're the last line of defense. You know, you don't have to run around as much, but certainly there's you know, all kinds of pressure on you because you're you're it. What's that like? You know, as you know, really at a young age, but in a situation like playing it at the University of Arizona, I mean, how nerve wracking is it? Yeah?
I would say like on a game day, it's probably the least physically taxing
position, but it's the most mentally taxing eruction. I think there's there is a lot of pressure that comes with it because the best way I can describe it is that usually you're able to diffuse responsibility between people, but when it feels like it's only you there, like you're the only person able to use your hands, you're the last person that the ball has to get passed, you can put a lot of pressure on you, and especially when I was younger, I eat that pressure, you know, was a lot to deal
with and it was something that I've had to deal with more and more the
older I've got. But I think, you know, you find a community within goalkeeping and that's where the goalkeeper coach comes into play and helps you so those stresses and that's at the end of the day why I believe it's the most rewarding position as well, because you go through all of that, you know, mental strife now within your own head and then for other people too, and when you're able to be successful because of all the work that you
put in that maybe people don't really see or know. Right So hope my son was was a goalie too. He played the next level. What he ran up against was concussions and the collisions and all that. Did you survive being hit hard or those crashes at the goal? Yes, I think a lot of that. You know, obviously you have to be brave to play the position and with that comes you know, putting your body on the line. And that's again why I think that the position is so unique and so
I think rewarding in a sense because you do make that sacrifice. But Luckily for me, through my entire five year career, I never had to miss a game due to injuries. So you know, it's definitely taking pride in like taking care of my body, and then also you got to have a bit of luck along the way, but you also want to make sure you're being brave and making sure that you're trying to do your best for the team. This is gonna be kind of a weird question, but I'm just curious
about this. So you know, as you said, you know, you're you know, you don't have to run all over the field, you know for every match and those kinds of things. You've got a different kind of position. But what's the training like as it compares to other players in terms of conditioning and you know, any weight training you do or whatever, do you train differently from the other players or you just kind of one of them when it comes to you know, practice and conditioning and off season and all
that kind of stuff. Yeah, we do have a different training regimen than the field players because like the best way people describe it is it's like a different sport within a sport is goalkeeping. So you know, our lifting schedule is going to be different it's going to be more based on you know,
fast explosive movements, more like aerobic movements than anaerobic. So making sure that like the quick, fast, like twitchy muscles sort of all firing and training is you know, your hardest days as a goalkeeper physically are actually the days
of training, not the games. And that's a lot of just up, you know, up and down, getting up short skirts that's really tiring, and then long periods where you're not doing much, which is uh kind of what it's like in the game where you could be asked to do something really physically taxing for about thirty seconds and then you have like twenty minutes where maybe
you're not doing as much. So it's definitely working different like body systems, and so we try to replicate that in the weight room and on you know, the training field, so that your body's in best position to succeed on the game day. Interesting stuff, yeah, no question, really interesting. She didn't even talk about the dives back and forth, the leaps and all
that. But I think that in having a son who did this position, I think they're the smart, very smart too, because they know angles and the balls coming in, they know angles where the ball's gonna come and where it can't come from. True. Uh, yeah, it's very masmatical in
the sense of that. And you know, it's it's a lot of different positioning techniques and even like my dad didn't know much about soccer before I started playing it, but even he was, you know, really intrigued by all the different angles and stuff and he was able to help me with that too. But yeah, it is very much about being in an optimal position to try and make the safe. You're not always going to make it, but you just want to make sure you're in an optimal position to do stuff.
So you had this great career. I think you played for the women's summer team right here FC two soon. I think I could be wrong. So what's next? What's next for you? Well, the next step would be to enter the end OFFL draft, which there's still not a date for it yet, but that would be the next step. And see, you know how that process goes, and if I get picked up by a professional team or you know, going overseas or something like that. But I definitely want
to continue and like my playing career at the next level. Well interesting, Well, and then Steve said again a few minutes ago, Mansion. You know, you got to be smart to play the position you were in. You just were named twenty twenty three PAC twelve Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year. So not only are you athletic, you're pretty darn smart. And I was looking at your bio and like, you got a degree. You got an undergraduate degree with a four point oh, a graduate degree with a
four point oh. I mean what you know, we know your dad was he that he wasn't this smart? Was he? Jason? Jason, Jason. You know, my mom and dad are very intelligent people, so they definitely helped pass those genes go along. Obviously, you know, they passed along all the work ethics things right, you know, doing things the right way as well, and I think that's contributed. And like you said, like the goalkeeping position is very mentally taxing, so I think that you know,
being able to execute in the classroom definitely translate on the field. So getting that ward, though, how much did that mean to you? You know again, you know, the season didn't go like you wanted obviously, you know you're not in the SUA A tournament, but still getting an award like that has to really be you know, satisfying for you to finish out
the season. Yeah, I think that, you know, coool is why I went to college in the first place, you know, like my you know, my whole goal was to be able to use soccer to pay for my education. And now that I've you know, developed and have the opportunity to play after college, I know that my career claim is not going to be forever. And your brain is something you're always going to have and always
going to have to use in the real working world. So the most important thing for me was to make sure that I utilized my education to the best of my ability. And like I know, you know, my grandma, uh, one of hers, she texted me and she was just she was so proud of the award because she thinks oftentimes in college athletics the school part gets overlooked. But it was very proud and you know, thought that that was the coolest award to have, And I agree because it shows, you
know, the true reason why I'm here in the first place. So we we've talked to a lot of the people of the non basketball football athletes geist in track obviously delaying dish still in in in diving and diving you and soccer. Has the NI L been able to help you at all? So are we buying you lunch or you buying us lunch? Honestly, I haven't. I didn't utilize that much of NIL. I didn't find any opportunities that I
personally wanted to use, but I know that it is. It's great for all athletes regardless, you know, like you said, and even non revenue sports being able to you knowize their name, image and likeness like I'm seeing, you know, softball girls be able to hold camps and do stuff like that. So I've done a little bit of the NIL as far as uh like coaching and little clinics and stuff like that, but I haven't done as far as stuff as much. It just wasn't really that interesting to me.
But I'm glad that that opportunity. Yeah, makes sense. Well, congratulations on your career and all these awards. I'm sure you do well. Yeah, thank you very much for having me on. Well appreciate it. And don't don't tell your dad I said you he wasn't as smart as you. Okay, Joe got the Phone's gonna ring the phone, Jason. Sorry, man, Thanks Hope, appreciate, best of luck to you. You know sometimes I open my mouth and well things come out. Here's the funny thing.
So I got into it. We just do with them, right. I hope I could outrun him. I'm not sure you could outrun Jason. No, No, you're there. Plus got just pick up a baseball. He could hit me from you, you know, from three hundred feet. So you know that's all all right. Okay, that was fun. Hope. Uh, best of luck to you that that was great. And you know again, congratulations on a great career. All Right, we're gonna take our break. We're gonna be back. We'll take your calls. This is

Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeartRadio AP just Surgery I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to IE on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen coifteen. I'm Steve, You're Jay got sending with us fourteen minutes. If you guys want to give us a quick call, what's the bigger game break question of the day or more important? We can phrase it however you want. Which game matters most, which one's more important
to you? Arizona versus Duke and Basketball. On Friday, Orse Steve will be there, Johnny on the Spot for Eye on the Ball and All Sports tas on. So we were both there. We weren't there in Albuquerque. So the anniversary just came through, I think the Florida game here and then the New Mexico in December, December, December of that day, and everyone said, oh, what a great day, all time best day. No, no, but it was a great day. It wasn't the all time
best. It was a great day. It was a great fun sports. Yeah. You know got I remember watching that New Mexico Bowl and they got so far behind it. We're pissed off, rich Rod. What are you doing? You suck? How are you losing like this to Nevada. You're making Arizona look bad? Why do you even go to a bowl game? All those things were said while we were watching the game. And then and then they won the game. You don't suck, rich you don't suck. Ritch. Nice job, way to go. You had it all the way
and it was a huge victory. And then they came back and beating Florida at Florida game. Uh with the guard what's his name, Mark Lyons. You know, we were talking about that today and my brother Jean, who's my sidekick at the stat table. He'd gone to the New Mexico Bowl. So we had a sub and it was my my, my god son, Sean Collins. You know, it was in sports and he was so he was the guy next to me. He's literally up to my ear yelling in my ear and I can barely hear. It was so loud. Oh yeah,
yeah, it was so loud. I could barely hear him calling, you know, making the calls to me doing the stats. Right. No, it was a fun time one time enough to say that this this weekend if they win both. Yeah, yeah, it's it's two separate days, but it could be it could be a weekend to remember if Arizona, you know, does does both of these things. Look, Arizona fan, Okay, if you're expecting Arizona to win this game, shake yourself. They're not
supposed to win this gamestball the basketball game. They probably shouldn't win this game. But they can't. We don't know. I mean, obviously we don't know because we don't know how to duke is. But what from what we know now, if you're thinking, oh, we're going to go in there and we're going to kick their butt and stop. No. And I don't know enough about Tommy at this stage in his career to know, but if Luke was coaching them, I would say they could very well win this catter
shot, yeah, because they just remember all the time. But tom Tommy has been been doing. He's unshakable on this stuff. He doesn't he doesn't take himself or any of this so seriously that he's sitting there thinking, oh God, I'm going to do on the road, this is gonna be a hard win. No, he's going like, we got another game to play.
It's on a court the same size of the court at Arizona. In fact, he was saying something that Monday night that I thought was very fantastic in how he speaks, because he he says, you know a lot, and he's kind of you know, but he said, if they win, figure out what we need to improve on. If we lose, I'll figure out what we need to improve on. Because it's it's second game, end right, and it is what it is. And I don't I think the
color beforeces seeding maybe maybe, but it's your help. It's the second game of the year. But down the road, it helps, you know, if that's on your look, would you like to win on your resume? Would you like to win on your resume? Absolutely not. But you don't get killed if you don't. Yeah, if you don't know exactly, and if you're if it's a last second shot, that's almost like a victory.
Yeah, So you know, it's, uh, this is fun. These things are fun, and that's that's why you've always hoped that they would play these games, because it's so much fun. We're talking about it here and it's a big deal and it's good. You know, We've got a group of there's like twenty of us going together to Vegas and we're going to a place and we're all gonna sit there and watch this game in the same place, and we're gonna have a blast. We're you know the way, are
you going to be flying and do the same thing for Saturday. Yeah, and then on Saturday, Yeah, the same group of people is going to be at the West Gate altogether, you know, watching this game on you know, on whatever screen we get. But yeah, all the you know, that's what we're going up there for. It is to do all this stuff. So yeah, you know, it's it's like a two watch parties back to back, but in Vegas, Yeah, I think I think it's
hilarious. You get the football schedule however early and then oh, You've is playing duke and you look, oh Colorado you have a football Oh that same weekend Arizona Duke basketball? Who really cares about that football game? Right now we're having like yeah, oh, this football game means way more. Yeah, which one's bigger? I mean, yeah, yeah, but which is cool? I also brought this up this week maybe on the show too.
If the roles were reversed football wise, Uh, the Arizona story would be huge, right because Dion the Don factor was huge, right, and it's not as much anymore, but they're still quoting him like crazy, you know what you eat today? And Don eight Spanish food or whatever? Ye Dan Patrick yesterday? And what do you bring to the table now? Not what
do you did three and sixteen? Exactly exactly. Jedis for apples and apples and you put the resume on. If you didn't have this, the coaches names and you put the names on their own teams, Jed would be the guy being lauded. Right. Well, that's the thing, that's what people are saying, you know, there was a tweet to that effect that,
you know, earlier this week. You know, one of the national guys said, you know, who would have thought it might have been I don't know if it was a good man or or one of the football guys. It might have been Eron Torres. One of those guys said, you know who would have thought, you know, at this in this week that Colorado would be the team that you're really not talking about that much anymore. And Arizona is, yeah, you know, and there were nine and a half
point favorite, or it was at least two days ago. It's a lot of points, Yeah, it is. But they've been so good too. But this is the first time he even favored some Stanfords seven and seven and one seven one against spread. Yeah, yeah, the one was against Stanford's. So we barely yeah, crossed our team, crossed our fingers and let me let me throw a stupid question that I'm pining with that though, would they be in the situation of DeLaura was the quarterback? We don't know.
I don't know that. Oh you guys doing speculator, No, you're gonna okay, personally, I don't know if six wins were on the table or currently with the Laura, I do think the team would still have progressed. I think Fita is being able to take care of the football and really game managers. The way that he has been able to has made this team made this team's strengths really come out. It changed, it changed things. I don't you know. I don't know if you can say one way or the
other. I'm gonna say probably not. I'm gonna say that under de Laura they would have lost one of these last three games. You don't probably most most likely or don't say a word, or stay I do not say a word, Sammy, do you did your sense? Since the since Fafida has been back, even in the staff prea game that this team has played harder for him, I don't think so. I know. I think I think this this team's always played hard. I think Jed and his coaching staff has
really progressed this team. I think when you look at what they looked like against Stanford and now what they look like this team night and day, it's I mean the defense too, especially like that things are actually starting to click. And maybe that's just they have more practices. They've gotten to know each other. They've actually become more of a team. But I don't think you can say DeLaura faa when the team plays harder for one or either. See.
I don't believe. I don't believe in momentum, as I've said a thousand times, but I do believe in confidence and and and you can see that defense with so much they're just like I said yesterday, a bunch of dogs, underrated dogs. And you give those dudes announce of confidence and they've taken a bunch of it. They've turned into this craziness, right. And I can't see where you're coming from, Steve, I really can. I
don't one hundred percent agree with you. I'm sort of more on Lamont Onnley side that we talked about yesterday, that you know, guys are gonna play for guys no matter what right we are. They playing hard for delare he thinks they were. Were they playing harder for forefeed. I don't know if they're playing harder, but maybe with more confidence, harder nothing, with more
of a belief. Harder's not the right word, with more of a belief that you know, Fafita comes in the game and he's doing these things like, Okay, now we have much more confidence in our offense to be doing its part well so that if we do our part, we're gonna win these games. Let me and you guys, you played Sammy, so you've seen this a thousand times. You you have a star, get hurt or leave
or whatever audition By substraction, we say that for a reason. Brandon Dawkins, Khalil Tate, come on, I mean, come on, you see it for whatever reason, right happens. I mean with Coli Tate, it was just because he was a freak athlete that caught everybody by surprise, and the Pac twelve coaches couldn't. It took him about five games to figure him out. But there are times, you know, you think, uh uh uh, what's his name? Drew Bledsoe gets hurt? Tom Brady comes in
and what happens? Right, so it can happen seven it doesn't. And and again it might be more along the lines of confidence as opposed to harder playing harder. And that may not be the right word. But but you guys knew what I was talking about. Yeah, no, I get it. It has looked different since Fafita gotten the game at the end of the Stanford game. It's just looked different, no doubt. But we can't we don't. We don't know if it would have looked like this if okay,
next time you speculate I'm gonna score. Hey, we could be sitting here. Here we go. How you're on the air and nine the ball. I had a call, This is Vick. You guys, what's up? Steve? You're one thousand percent right? Man? Wow? You I mean, I'll give you a quick example. Look at that raider thing that went
on last week. Those guys that we're walking on it with us, with Josh McDaniels, and they changed coaches perfect and I know that they're probably not going to sustain it, but those guys said they'd run to a wall for the new guy, for Antonio. And do you see that happened a lot too. It does. Yeah, I'll tell you. When my kids were playing high schootball, the starting pitcher went up to the coach and said, I need Jamie, who is my daughter, at third base, and don't
change. Don't make a change there again, the starting pitcher went up to the head coach and told her that. And it's just certain people bring out the best, and I can guarantee you they talk. You don't think Walls went to his dad and said, Jesus Christ, we need to change Jayden. You know, if you're a fly on the wall, you don't think that happened in between clothes quarters. Totally yeah, totally agree. And well you're right, Steve, and I still got you a stag dinner coming your
brothers. No, right, did you hear that? Take care? Guys? How's your trip? How was your trip? It was beautiful, beautiful. My cousin won. They beat Laurela Merrymount, who Arizona plays, so we we had a blast. I got to go to a high school football game and and that was so weird, Steve. My daughters graduated in twenty twelve, and the same people sit in the same seats and yelling the same
crap as a coach twelve years later. So that always is. That's why, that's why when Jay goes to the bar, he sits in the same seat. You be back in nineteen seventy you were al Bundy. You see the touchdown back to the day. Thanks Vic, thanks for the call. Okay, you guys take care all right? Well, yeah, you know again it can't happen, Steve, I think that you know, this is
a different a little different case from you know, changing a coach. I mean that happened here in Arizona, right, you know, Mike Sweeps got fired in the very next week under Tim Cash, you know, Arizona to beat the hell out of UCLA. And I'm talking about that moment, you know what I'm saying, right, just for that moment, it happens. It happens. I've seen it happen. You know, guys get a little bit more bouncing their step or something. And I get what Hanley's saying.
I totally get it. I just believe, I believe in as a player, he's saying, I would never do that. Sure, I would never play harder for the next And I don't want to argue that because he's right and he'll be yours. But but yeah, but you know I'll be beating on the floor and say I'm still right anymore anymore. Well, also, winning sure, and winning that game was a big deal. That the season was on the brink right there. You know, they had one possession and
they scored on that possession. Yeah, yeah, it was on the break, and they lose to Stanford. It's a whole different field for this season, no question, and they did no questions and they did not So yeah, it's uh, you know, it's uh. It look that that put everything in place that that's happening. Even though they lost the next few games, you know, to top five teams, but they you know, they
they established a level of respect that that they were hoping to establish. And then what that's led to his winning those next three against against ranked teams. So all right, God, that's it for today. That was really fast, Steve. So okay, to remind everybody, I'm here tomorrow. Steve's not here tomorrow. He's on He's gonna be flying on his way to Douke. It's gonna take him all day to get there. Yeah, and then so I'll be here tomorrow with with with Kevin, so we'll just kind of
keep the chatter going. We've lined up Brian Howell, the beat writer for who covers Colorado from the Boulder Daily Camera. We're trying to line up another beat rider for the other guests, and then we're both gone on Friday, so there's no show, no show on Friday, and we'll be back on Monday to talk about all that stuff. So Steve save travels real quick, give me a call on both games, real quick, Duke. They lose but played really well, and they win committing leg against Colorado. All right,
okay, guys, is it ever too early for Christmas music? Oh? Okay, all right, we'll be back tomorrow, so be sure to come back and give us a shout. Thank you. Make my own whist.
