This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jacon Zalazn Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions, katz R two SA and iHeartRadio Station A. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jacin Zows got our guy, Adam, say it ain't so Adam and Henry here in the house today, last time we'll see you Adam. Yeah, it's pretty best for you. Yeah, he won't be bad influences
on here. He loves us, man, I know that. But he keeps coming back and we can't stop it from coming back. That's right, you have million us to do because come and see us. Gotta make this the best show. Yeah, are you going? Are you going home right away? Saturday? And then then then you're looking for a job right the mean streets? Really? Okay, Well, thanks for coming. Henry's in here to take over once you're gone. It's kind of like, what's that
movie? What was that movie in Vegas? Dream Girls? Was the one where she tripped the girl and the I didn't see that that was what's the name from say by the bell? Uh, you know, the apprentice comes in and trips the other one. So get the hell out of the way. And we're not talking like Nancy car again, right, something like that. This is it for you. Don't screw it up. You will get paid at the end of the day. Hey, hey, everybody, welcome
to the show. We've got some new first time callers calling in. That's great we've had that's great. Great to hear from the people that spend time with us in the day. We have a good show today, Yes, I think so. Yeah, we've got some guys that we know we get for a while. Yeah, catch up on some softball, right, insider stuff. Right. So we're gonna start at the the first segment, the
first hour. We're gonna have rich Tomy from the Positive Coaching Alliance. Uh, somebody's been doing some good work up in Phoenix with this, with this alliance to just you know, get people to coaches to be good coaches and people to be good people. Right. He's he's got a nice little grant from somebody. I can't remember who it is. We'll talk to him about that and then I Yes, yesterday I mentioned that that Brennan. We were
trying to evaluate Brennan right that. I thought that he's probably more toy like than anybody. That's anybody, And I'm sure Rich will be nice to talk about what he knows of him and just you know, the background and all that. And then the other side. Then the other side. We we've been wanting we wanted to talk to some softball. We couldn't get Caitlin Lowe just you know, he's busy trying to get a team ready for this packed
off tournament. But the director of operations, Danny Martinez, longtime friend, good good, good guy pa announcer for the for the home games. Uh, been involved with softball for hundred years. And so Danny's gonna join us from from Paulo Alta where they are they're they're they left, they left yesterday, so they're they're up in Polo Alto. So we'll talk to Danny just about you know, some feelings going into this tournament. Uh, you know
what they're trying to accomplish. Obviously they want to win it, but you know, start playing well and get themselves into the NC tournament. But I saw the coaches their eighteenth in the country with the you know, UCLA sixth I think it's Yeah, So UCLA isn't the UCLA from the past, you don't, I'm sure they're good. Well, I think it's what it's that the other teams have gotten so much better. We were talking about this and
we talked about it with Mike Candre at one time. You know that, you know what what Mike Andre did here, you know, who's the ground for bringing bringing softball up to the level of popularity that it is. You know, kind of created a monster. And there's so many other good programs now that weren't there. You know that that when when Arizona and UCLA were just running the show. You know, Oklahoma has just been crazy good. But you know, you've got a lot a lot of teams and a lot
of the particularly in the SEC, that are really damn good. And so you know u c. L A is really good. I mean they swept airs or no, they beaten two out of three. But anyways, you know there's still UCLA. They're still really good. But yeah, they're sick. They're number six in the country, not number one. Well in fact, in fact, let me go through the list and I'm I'm shocked, to tell you the truth, Who's guess who's number one? Oklahoma. No,
that's why I'm shocked. They're not even number two, They're not even number three, number four. So Texas, Okay, I had forty five and six. Oklahoma State had no idea. Tennessee had no idea. Oklahoma Duke, then U c l a Duke. Duke. Duke plays softball exactly. Hold on, I'll pick you up on the floor to the terms. He just fell off as you get him up. I never never would have gained if you'd have said, if you'd have asked the truck question, does
Duke have a softball team? I would have probably said no. And then if you sitting the top ten very much exactly. Yeah. So Arizona, it says, is nineteen nineteen and Washington is eleven. So they're the Stanford eight, right, And that's and Arizona plays Washington top top four teams, the top four teams in the in the the Pols twelve. Yeah, so I think I think Arizona safely in the tournament. You know, they just gotta you know, you like anything else, right, you get out there,
you want to get on a roll. And uh and uh, you know, and start playing and start playing. Well, this is the time. There's you know, there's nothing left to wait on, nothing unless I have to hold back on. So I'm sure that's what what the conversation. Yeah, so no, that's good because you know, Dan, like you said, it has been there with the hundred years, we'll see how were you actually and you tell him that he's been there one hundred years and he's
only like twenty five. Danny's like thirty five. Okay, that'll make you feel, it does and married. Yeah, that makes me feel right now with disappointed. Well that's yours. That's that's a you problem, not a Danny problem. Daddy. You didn't have time to consult with me. I guess a good thing. Good thing. He saw what a great marriage I have and said I want to do that. Okay, you can talk about the first one. Well, you know, Steve, sometimes, you know,
sometimes you just got to try things out. Okay, Okay, you have some facts out of your story. You know, sometimes you just gotta you know, you know, you push on. Yeah, you take a couple of swings. You don't like that bat, you get a different bath. The peribial. I'm at the bad place. Okay, cool Cool, let's allow to digress. We did, okay, no cool. A lot of things going on. Baseball two up the Big Series this weekend. Oregon State, no Utah. They got Utah Big Series at Utah. Did you
see what happened they did last night? They went up and beat ASU, which they again, you know, in the grand scheme of things, it's a game that really doesn't matter. He doesn't. It's not a it wasn't a conference game, but but you feel better winning it than you, you know, the alternative. Yeah, they alternative, so you know, and I mean I think they used like nine pictures or something in that game.
Is that one of your breaking news? Sorry? But you know they used nine different guys out of the bullpens, so they didn't use any of their you know, we regular starters, which is and then they went up there and won that game. And you know SU had handled them, uh you know before this, so you know, good for them to come out of playing the Grand Canyon. I don't understand. I don't understand the whole Grand Canyon, so you know it is what it is. Okay, no cool.
A lot of things going on, of course, at the end of the year. We're gonna have you know, we'll be in and out throughout the year, summer in the summertime, and you know, well you and I'll either be the birthday tomorrow. So he's leaving two days, actually leaving for four. I'm not one of those birthday months. But I'm leaving tomorrow for a couple of days. Yeah, so I'm gonna have a couple of
guest hosts coming in. We have more fun with all with me. Well, your son, your son, my son will be here, he'll be here tomorrow. We'll bring some youth. We'll bring some youth into the uh, into the into the studio. And then Dave Silver will join me on Friday. I just just confirmed that with him a little bit ago, and uh, we'll you know then not well, we'll go young, then we'll go old. We'll go young, and then we'll go old school with Dave coming in here on on Friday. That'll be fun, be a lot of
fun. And then I don't I have no idea what I'm getting forgets though. Yeah, it's still figure it out. Oh you mean for tomorrow, Yeah, for tomorrow Friday, but uh, you know, we'll probably talk some NBA because that was a big NBA guy like that. Would imagine going on to some some go down memory lane a little bit. That's always fun in sports here in touc Soon. Yeah, that's always fun, and we do. We did that a couple of weeks ago, and we had him
on the show. You could tell that he was bored because he's already tired and he can I talk to you guys. You really dave us. Okay, okay, okay, yeah, well that's goodways you guys give to go back to memory. One of the all time good guys in media. Yeah, here Inchiufson, one of the all time good guys. So it'll be good to have him. But okay again, if you got to call it, if you'd like to call us five to two oh four one six seven four four zero, that's the best number. And in fact that's the only
number. Yes, then our only line. Yeap, So you'll you'll be fine. Yeah, all right. Dodgers won again today. They're on a roll, six in a row. Yeah, thank you, Henry. You're not a Dodger, correct, Just you and meet kid against these Dodger guys, it's all they want to talk about. Six straight man, including a three game sweep of the Braves. Okay, so they had been playing mediocre. They were well, they were doing they weren't doing what you would expect
the Dodgers to do. They were the first month of the season, they were, you know, twenty and thirteen. Not great, good, not great in our first place. Yeah, their division is I think is kind of weak. Uh. And then they they and then they had the Braves coming into Dodger Stadium and they swept them, which was a surprise to me, I think surprised to a lot of people. And they sent the Braves off, who are now behind the Phillies in the East because the Phillies are
just gone off with with Bryce Harper and stuff. So but now they've won six and now they're you know, twenty six and thirteen. You know, they're they're they're doing pretty well. Yeah, it's seem that they're leading almost every offensive category as a team. Just crushing, crushing. It shows show he's been doing great until today. Kissed me off. They didn't even get a hit today, because that costs me a little bit of money. But what are you gonna do on eight hundred next step? Well, I'll give
you that number. On it's it's it's one of my favorites on my phone. Oh what except yeah? Idea is think about is you don't think you have a problem. People have to tell you they think you have a problem. See that's my point. Do you drink too much? No, I don't drink. You drink your prop No, I don't. I don't speel anything. You thing have a gamily problem? No, No, that took you a while to get to that. Henry's not ready to take it. Took a long time to get out. Did you have to think about it?
Just maybe? Maybe a little bit? Maybe, because what's the right end? It's like, do you think of the if your your girlfriend? Do I look at these jeans? What's the answer? No? No? With quicker response, she's about respond yes yes. Okay, so that was confirmed your don't you know you're fine? I know my wife thinks I yes, Well that's all that mattered. And she thinks I rubbed it off on my kid. I said he did it on his own. Yeah, okay, he did it on his own kid only kid, not kids? No,
okay, good the other one the other two don't smart? Yeah okay, what else? The calls were good with that we have football. Football is pretty much done. Although I think that's it. They had to get together. I did not go yesterday last night. I did not have a lot of people obviously excited to see everybody h coach. I don't even sign anything on social media about it was there. I saw some yeah yeah, people say, oh they loved it. It was good at union. The
Union. Uh, you know everybody Paul in love with Tommy tom what's his last name? Friends of mine got sad when I told him I couldn't remember Tommy Lloyd's thing. Yes, you put like stuff on your shorts to say, if lost, take me to this place. I know. I just figured they'll they'll get my phone and they'll figure you'll find my phone. Figure out. Yeah, okay, oh way, I shouldn't teach you because I get that way to that guy. That guy, Yeah, that's why we
I know. But to not be able to remember Tommy Lloyd's last week, that that's that's more than just you know, I feel like I need to go in and get checked for a stroke or something. Okay, I don't give CPR, so don't do it, you know, And you know what, I don't want you to get a CPR if I if I drop in this room, you guys just leave me alone. I'll call it and I will just leave you. Yeah, just make a call. Yes, call, that's all you do. All right? All right, so you're gonna
miss this stuff, won't you? I will? I will back and forth? Good, Yeah, be stuff. Okay, we're gonna Rich told me just texting me. He's ready to give us. All right, get a call from us. Sports fourteenth fifty. Hey, welcome back, joining the ball here Fox Sports fourteenth fifty. I'm Steve Hugh's Jay. Now on the phone, we have Rich Tomy from Positive Coaching Alliance. How are you Rich doing great? Thank you very much. Good to hear you guys. Boys. Yes, it's been a while. I just recently saw some big post and I think it's maybe a while back you received a huge amount from was it the dbats or
the Cardinals or somebody. Yeah, the Arizona Cardinals. We've been working with them over the years, and this year they stepped up and gave us a seventy thousand dollars grant to work on some mental health initiatives and girls like football initiatives in concert with them. So it's we're really excited about that for sure. So when we talk about the Positive Coaching Alliance, Rich, what are
the what's the primary thing that you do. If you said, Okay, this is what we stand for, this is what we're trying to accomplish with this organization, what is that. Well, we you know, we provide training and resources for parents, coaches, and athletes basically to you know, all the all the life lessons that sports teaches us. You know, those are the things that we really embody and and you know, we try and give everyone the big picture of the importance of sports and the power a coach
has in a young person's life. So, you know, there's a lot of coaches that do it the wrong way, and you know, studies show that, you know, if you stay in sports, you have a less chance of dropping out of school or doing drugs or you know, just going down the wrong path. So it all connects, and it's it's sort of a giant spiked or spoke of a wheel. You know, it's all connected.
So we try and create a path, and you know, hopefully the light bulb comes on for all the amazing things that sports teaches us, and a good coach will extend that. And you know, we all been played for good coaches and bad coaches, and we know the difference. So it's obvious that the lessons a good coach will teach obviously are something you can carry on for the rest of your life. What are the I had to go
negative here, but what are the pitfalls of a bad coach one? And I'm sure there are bad parents that you have to kind of deal with too. Oh yeah, well parents are I mean, we have a lot of parent training courses as well, and you know that we have what I call our single goal parent, which is basically, your only job is to is to cheer on your kid and support them. And uh, you know, a bad coach obviously can make a kid quit. I mean, seventy percent
of kids will quit sports by age thirteen. And that's due to a lot of factors. So you know, if we can have a good coach, give someone the tools and want to hang in there and stick with it and keep playing, I mean, you have a chance to. Really we all grow at different times and some are late bloomers, so like I was, and you know, I stuck with it long enough where I had a chance to play in college and you know, really played for some great coaches.
And I think, you know, the lessons we can all learn from sports. Uh, you know, ninety percent of Fortune five hundred CEOs played high school sports. So I think there's a there's a connection, and there's a reason why sports than business, you know, intersect a lot so rich with with all with the way things are changing, you know, you know, all the way down to the you know, high school level, loving before that. Because now you've got with with things that are going on with NIL
and those kinds of things. You got parents probably who are out there, you know, their kids are seven years old. Instead of saying you need to get to the NFL, they're just saying all you need to do is get to college and you can make a lot of money. Do you are you, are you starting to see some I don't know, the differences in the way parents are being, the way coaches are being because of all the money that's suddenly gotten closer, you know, to the younger ages. Are
you seeing anything like that? Oh yeah, I mean it's it's I mean, obviously with the whole club club scene, whether it's basketball or baseball or even football. I mean, it's the parent issue with that. And you know, the pressure that kids have today is so much greater than for instance, when we were in school or we were probably none of this was there. And I think kids today are dealing with the social media aspect of things
and feeling they're like they're always having to promote themselves. I think it's it's a it's a challenge, and you know, one of the things we really focused on too is social media and how to handle your own your own brand. And you know, you are your brand. So like if you were going to go hire somebody, the first thing you do probably is go check out their Facebook or their LinkedIn or see what kind of person they are.
So people can really destroy their career just by what they do online. So I think, you know, having said all that, I mean I mean, obviously the nil and the way college sports is today is just completely different. So it's it's a it's a moving target that we're all trying to figure out. Sure, how is that moving target? And what would you know, the question that I want to the moving target? How would your dad reacted to it? You know, I'm talking to a doctors the other day.
I you know, I think he I don't know if he would really enjoy this, But at the same time, I think he would be of the mindset where this is what it is, and we got to deal with it and let's go make the best of it. And because he loved the game and he loved coaching, and I don't think this would have chased him off. But I think it's you see what happened to like Nick Saban, and it is you know, some of these old coaches, And I've I've
actually talked to some old U of A coaches. I saw Charlie Dickey over the summer last summer, and he absolutely hates it, you know. I mean there's there's coaches that just old school coaches and having a deal with recruiting your same players every year to keep them on your own roster is just it's
it's just such a weird time in sports, you know. And I don't envy a lot of this stuff the coaches go through today, No if for sure is I mean, we've talked to guys, you know, Ca Andrea, you know, Dave Rubio, Andy Lopez, all those guys have said, never in my wildest dreams that I think I was gonna have to do that, and I was, and I'm not gonna and I'm not. I'm glad, I'm great, right it is. It's insane. So but again,
it's it's the reality. I don't know if it's going to hold up, and I know it's going to change a lot over the years, so I hope it doesn't. You know. I just worry for the smaller schools and how they how they're going to compete, and it's just going to be interesting decade. Can you imagine what you know, you were a college baseball player, you played in Arizona, what it would have been like to be
on a team that's going through all that stuff. I mean, have you ever even put your mind to that or you just say I'm glad I'm not in there. How have you taken all of this as a form of contact.
Oh, I am glad. I you know. I talked to Todd Brown, who's the head baseball pitch in New Mexico, and I played with Todd and we're good friends, and he's like, this is it's it's almost like you just at the end of the season, you just basically cross off your best player because you know they're going somewhere, and uh, you know, it's it's like you can't you can't compete with big, big money that
these schools have to hold on to your best players. So it's just sort of you know, everybody's recruiting the portal and high school athletics is and of becoming a little irrelevant and a lot of sports. So it's almost it's just really it's tough. I feel really bad to the high school athletes these days. Actually, yeah, no, you make a great point, because it's true they're chasing after the players who have experienced rather than the ones that don't.
Right, yep, absolutely, so, yeah, you're you're bringing me down, right, You're bringing me down. You asked I did I know, I asked the question. But you're bringing me down rich, And that's tough to do because he's always down, So I don't know how much Stee is the grumpy one in the room. So rich If people wanted to be involved with you guys, coach or not coach, how do they do that? I mean first first door would be go through Positive Coach dot org.
It's our website. It kind of tells you all about the things we do. You know, from there you can sort of learn about the different programming and there's ways to reach us through that, and uh, you know, we we've got some really great partners school districts across the state. In Tucson, Tucson Unified is one of our best partners. So just a lot of great resources we offer, and we're always trying to find funding to help underwrite
our programming for underserved communities across the state. So just a lot of great ways to get involved. So it gets a couple of things that you I'm I've got a twelve year old kid and you know, I'm coaching his little league team, and I don't know, I feel like I need some help. What kind of help can I get from you guys? What can I
you know, whether it's attending a program or whatever. Yeah, yeah, we work you know, with a lot of leagues and across the state where we'll come in and before the season we'll do training for coaches, parents,
whatever, whatever the league wants not. You know, one size doesn't sit all, so we'll we'll come in meet with the league or the coaches, and we've done things for one team or one league or an entire you know, school just really depends, and you know there's different levels of training from our beginning double goal coach all the way up to stuff for college. We just did a we did a coaches clinic at u of A recently for their their U of A coaches clinics, So Brent, coach Brennan had us come
in and we did we did some stuff there. So we have a lot of different opportunities from the youngest level all the way up to the college level. So let's go there with with coach Brennan, how well do you know him? And I said this yesterday with with with Jay here then and we talked about the past, and I think, you know, I think coach Brennan is probably the most most like your dad in terms of coaching since your
dad coached. Would you agree, Yeah, I would agree. I've known coach Brennan since you know, he was a g a at u of a and obviously his brother played for my dad, so I've known the family a long time. You know, I'm still just so elated that he's got this opportunity. I just saw him at Keith Bray's celebration of life they had last Friday, so we spent a lot of time to get and I'm so excited for him. And I'm just with the people he surrounded himself with too.
It's just it's almost, you know, it's almost funny in a way, just how this this coaching staff looks a lot like you know, one where we've all been familiar with back in the day. So it's just really, uh, it's kind of interesting. So I'm so excited for them. We'll ask you that, what I mean, what do you think? What is it about him that you think will help him or make him be successful here?
When you know it's hard. This is a hard job. Arizona's not you know, you don't walk in and start winning ten twelve games a year like you can at some other places. What's going to make him be a good coach and succeed here? He's he's just so genuine. I mean, you know, in a lot of ways, you know, I kind of my dad was the same way. I mean, it's like you get what you get, and when you talk to Brent, you don't feel like you're he's just putting on a show to make you feel happy. I mean,
he honestly cares. And I think the players are already seeing that. I mean, I know there's guys that have left and guys that have stayed because they get to meet coach Brennan. And I just think he's a genuine person that's going to be, you know, not not sugarcoat anything. But at the same time, he's he'll be out in the community great, and they'll be working with the schools and and you know, you're if he's at the grocery show, they'll have a conversation with you. I mean, there's not
going to be any agenda there. So I think Tusson really embodies and embraces that kind of person. So I'm excited for him to get an opportunity. And again it's it's not an easy sled by any stretch, with with the way the conferences are now, so he's got his work for that for him but I think he's got a good shot. Man. I think he's right man for the job, for sure. It's when you use the word genuine yesterday, we're trying to find the word. You kind of said, matter
of fact, that's how he is when he's at the podium. Yeah, he speaking. He just kind of just says that he has a conversation with you. Genuine is the word, because he is just a dude who's coaching. Yeah, totally, I mean he is. He loves this, He loves the players, you can call him. I mean I've talked to him, you know, a bunch of times since he's gotten the job and before that, and he'll pick up the phone and you know, again he's he's He just reminds me so much of the way my dad was. And he
just you could, you could approach him at any time. And you know, I think that's that's gonna that's gonna bode well for for what's going on there. So I know the players are going to love him, and uh, you know, I'm excited to see how it goes for sure. Uh. You we're talking to Rich to me from Positive Coaching Alliance, Rich, what are you liking this move? To the Big twelve. I mean, love just forget the pack tell blew up. So do you think Asa landed
in the best possible place he could have? I mean, at this point, I guess it is absolutely. I mean it was that that three day stretch or whatever it was, was amazing to watch this well thinking unfold. It was almost like, you know, get what you can get, you know. So I think, I mean, they're in a great spot. I mean, they still are playing, you know, some pretty good school. That's sad to see the traditional rivalries we had and things kind of fall
away. But I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be the only change that happens in college football in the next five to ten years. So I think it's it's just going to be an ever evolving kind of revolving door, you know. So I guess you take what you can get. But yeah, I'm excited. I think it's going to be fun. I'm a little more worried about the non football sports like baseball and these others are having to travel to play, you know, school across the country, different things. It's
just it's going to be interesting to see how it shakes out. Having been a sport you know baseball player too. What do you think it's going to do for those you know, the swimmers and the baseball players. Everyone says it's going to be a lot of travel and students, you know, the student part of it gets lost. Yeah, yeah, you know, I think a lot of those type of sports, you know, they sort of create their schedules differently than football per se. So I think, you know,
I know, swimming, My daughter's a swimmer. She's she's going to be swimming up at Utah this year, so I think, you know, they definitely have a different way of creating schedules. It's more of a year to year thing. So I think, you know, with baseball and swimming in some of the Olympic sports that are around still. You know, I don't know if it'll affect it too much, but I definitely think it's going to have an impact on the students, and especially if you have to fly
across the country to the East Coast or wherever you might have it. But you know, I think more like with UCLA USC that conference, you know, having to go play Rutgers and different you know, it's just like it's just going to be really interesting to see how how they kind of handle things for sure. Well, okay, one last thing, give us your website for people to find you and help you or get more information. Yeah, it's a positivecoach dot org and you can go right there check it out,

So thank you Rich be well say here to your family, and again, congratulations on your daughter scholarship. That's very cool. Appreciate it. Thank you guys do great stuff. Thank you rich Tolmy obviously, Uh yeah, exactly what I thought, at least with with the Brendan thing. Yeah, kind of
just a dude who looks kind of like Tommy. Yeah, just just a dude out there coaching that. You know. It's funny because one of the guys that I have lunch with on Wednesday was commenting, Now, one of the guys that my brother was saying this. He was just I don't he saw something, you know, coming out of Washington or whatever. He said. Basically, Jedfish has just lifted up what he was doing here and he's
doing it over there, it's the same thing all over again. Yeah, you know in terms of you know, promoting and you had and all that stuff, you know, and it's the different beast over here over there, you know. And he he said in the context of I'm over being mad at him because because I feel like, you know, because of the way
he left. Now not sores did he left, just the way he left, sure, but just kind of to understand it, you know, you see, you see that he's got he's got a plan and we all need that when you know when he came here, when he came here, yeah, you could tell that there was a well thought out plan for what he was doing. Well, if the script worked here, try it over there. Yeah, so we'll see what we'll see if it works over yeah. Okay, all right, that was great, rich Tomy joining on us.

Win on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve, pj To Adam and Henry with us UH today. What's going on for we got fourteen minutes. He was on a call five two o four one six seventy four forty to finish out the first hour. Yep, it was good to reach out, took to it was it's all great to talk to Richie said, you know, he's such a good guy. How old did he say?
He was? Fifty four, Steed fifty four, you know, fifty four again he you know, he came out and played with us on that on that baseball team, that played with his dad, and he was I think he was even still in high school. He started having a great photo of a child. I have a great photo of him and his dad at the mouth at the mountain. Yeah, that was the first story that started that started. Yeah, yeah, I saw that. That's a Creative Awards
That's how I saw. Yeah. Yeah, no, it was, uh again when one of those one of those things that you know, look, if you're a sports guy and and you love playing sports, team sports, whatever, and uh that that picture came on on Dick's fifty fifth birthday. We let him play every position in the game. Yeah, and when he played hatcher, he rich was pitching, so he caught his son. And
then when he pitched, rich caught. So that was a very cool thing for them that that night that you know, big memory for those guys and just a lot of fun again, and I said a million times about that. You know, Dick was just a guy. He was just a guy like the rest of us, you know, on that team, just having fun out there playing. Well, if you're that dude, you're that dude like Brennan or Tommy, you're that dude. You don't change because of money
or what exactly exactly you know. So yeah, so no, you know, really good, really great, well just you know, comes from a great family. What that's all about. Very awesome, all right, So you reach out to his website. That'll be great to help out if you can, or see maybe just see more about it. Did you have did you ever coach your kids in anything but soccert little my ex coach my oldest store kids in soccer, Christian played it, but you know, no baseball.
Did you get any training and did you go to a seminar or soccer? Yeah, any any any of your coaching gigs. Did you have to go learn how to be a coach or learn what to do what not to do? Teach me a little bit of patience, especially when they're eight and six and they're hitting. Oh yeah, hitting the T ball in your hands, still on the ball. Have you seen okay today? Did do you follow Pat Forty on Twitter? Okay? He he reposted a video of a T ball game. Okay, it's just one a bet in the T ball
game and the chaos. I'll show it to you. Hit the ball. Yeah, Well, the kid hits the ball and then all the kids jumped on. But then the kid who hit the ball runs the second instead of the first, and then somebody comes out of the pile and throws the ball to the first basement and it hits him in the head and he looks like he got shot. He just drops to the ground. It's just the total chaos going on in this thing. You remember those days? You don't remember
those? I do? Do I do? Those kids you know who didn't really want to play, they were out picking flowers. Yeah, we had a kid played in the farm back in the day. It was like, holy crowd. We had a kid that we could we could not let him play first base or third base because because he loved the chalk, So he'd go sit out and he'd fill up his hat with chalk. Okay, so this one, this one time, he's you know, he comes out of the dugout he had gotten it was hot, so he'd gotten a glass of
water. He poured it over. So his hair's all wet and his face is all wet, and he's at third base and he's filling up his hat with chok and I think his name was Joseph. Joseph, put your hat on. And he just threw his hat on and the chalk went all over his face. All you could see was his his eyes and his mouth and the rest of him was white. He looked like it goes. That's the
stuff that you know, that that you're talking about. You deal with you and you just deal with it. You just do and you do little things like that like we, like I said, after that, we didn't let him play third base or first base anymore because he just loved playing with the ye. It's funny, you know, he was. He was five years old. It's funny now, it wasn't it, Especially when I try to put the ball on and in my hand and the one thing I would have
cussed like crazy. But you know, they were four years old with their parents watching. I can't start or you know, they you know, they swing and just let go of the in this in in that in that video, the kids swings the bat and it's he lets it go as it comes around and it hits the coach right in the shin. So, I mean, there's all this stuff going on in this video. It'sy. Sure you've seen videos where the kids have their own walk up song. Oh yeah,
they don't know what the hell they're doing. Listen to his TV, you know, or whatever. All that stuff. It's it's it's awesome stuff. Yeah, but I mean I loved coaching. I had a great time. And you know, I coached my son all. I mean, I literally I coached him all the way up through high school, which was fun. I mean, all of a sudden, I'm a high school baseball coach and not one person had ever I'd never gone to a clinic. I'd never gone
anything else but the game. Well yeah, but still you got to deal with stuff. I was a high school girl softball coach. Now that's something that you should have a clinic, you should be required to go to. We talked. It's one of the questions we ask and now in a sexist way, is this how different they are to coach? Exactly, very different, just different personalities and all that stuff. Okay again by nine minutes, if anybody wants to call, please, do you got to shoot case?
Athletes? You played? I did? I did? I played baseball, basketball to your senior to your high school senior year. I played. Okay, hockey, that's different. That's just different. Fights. Did you get any fights? That's that's like being kind of pregnant. What do you mean really? Either you did? You did? Maybe a little scuffle. Okay, yeah, okay, that makes sense. You were the intimidator. That's
cool. I mean that would have been fun. Scuffle and air and now and again drop the gloves, man, No, keep everything on, keep everything on. Oa. Okay, No, that was good talk to Rich. Yeah, but I thought he is a great program, and I thought his analysis of the football situations, you know, and you really got to put it together for that organization to further to even be an organization. Yeah, that does that, right, because I mean you kind of take it
for granted. How hard can this be? It's not. It's not easy. And the older the kids get, you know, the the the more let's say, engage the parents kind of seem to get and you have to deal with a lot more stuff, you know, with that you know, and I mean I you know, I started dealing with that stuff, you know, pretty young, but you know, on up through high school and you just do and it's it's not easy. It's still if you love the game and if you love you know, doing that kind of stuff for the
kids, then you're okay with it and you deal with it. But sometimes it's not. It's just not very easy at all. Right. No, of course, look again, if we're gonna do it, you have to have patients and have good assistant coaches. Yeah, yeah, because they help you like crazy. Yeah yeah, yeah, you do, you do. Because I really felt like my job as a coach, I wasn't you know, I couldn't teach you how to anything about your swing, Yeah I can't.
I managed the team, you know, just made sure that we had enough baseballs and equipment and we the buses were ready for us, you know, But I had I had a couple of guys that knew baseball who could coach baseball, right right. No, I enjoyed it. The one thing I did coach basketball for one year and my youngest Trey, who played, and we played against a team whose dad who whose other team was a dad and his son was obviously the best player. And one of the reasons why
he was coaching. His son was a player, and anytime you got the ball, he shot. So I told my son, Tray, whatever he does, you follow him. I don't care if you're on top of him, you're gonna be on you're gonna I'm gonna let him. I don't want that guy to be like the show off of the team. So go if he goes to the restroom, if you follow him, follow him because I don't want him to score. And he did. You know, Dad,
why do you do? Is just just do what I say? Just go kind of, you know, tell him because the other dad was one of his sons to score all the points. Right, that's not what this is about, right, and probably not to my end too, But you don't
prevent him from being that guy, right. So that's what I rememberable and my my my kind of memory of that is that all of a sudden, I show up and we're gonna play push Ridge in a baseball game, and I look across the way and the head coach is Doug Jones, who's major league player. Uh yeah, he was their coach at the time. I'm like, oh no, right, oh no, they don't know such special
secrets. But no, you know what, at that level, it's kind of like either you have good players or you don't, right, And I knew his players would be coached and you you know they're gonna throw the right bases and stuff like that, But beyond there, it's kind of okay, right whatever, he was as good as your talent exactly pretty much, and they were more talented than me. Right. Well, the other day,
I mean you have players, you have players. Yeah, Okay, again, we have maybe chances for a call or two five minutes left to five to two, oho, four one, six, seventy four, forty uh anything going on tonight, well that's not breaking news. Baseball and Pacers like next game two, that should be fun. Nick's Knicks won the first one they did, squeaked it out. Okay, yeah, Game TWESDA tonight, five o'clock. Henry said Knicks are favored by four and a half. That's
in New York. In New York next by four and a half. Oh oh, prediction, you got a prediction? I think that Indiana has to have to win it. Well, not really, I don't have to win it, but I think they will. I think they will. I think it's a bigger deal if the Knicks lose, you know, I mean, because you're supposed to win at home. So uh, it's kind of like, you know, if the Knicks lose, then people are saying, oh,
the Knicks are in trouble. But if the Knicks win, I mean, you can't really say that Indiana's in trouble because they're not supposed to win on the road. And did you write that stuff down when he just said if he could just listen and learn from his own his own philosophy. I just that's that's how seven game series are, you know, you go when you go too and two it's like, Okay, we're supposed to win at home. Take let's take care of him to well, just not in anything.
Just and Mitchell Robinson their starting center. He's out six day weeks. He's out for the series for the Mitchell Robinson Okay, defensive anchor. Yea, So my favorite ending we'll see Okay, Well, t J McConnell, the secret weapon nobody knows about. Well again, guys like fantastically just normal good. Yeah, yeah, there's one who needs to go like him, whoever it is. I did see somebody posted that maybe some good news comment like Luke is it? Luke did that? They never mind, it doesn't
mean anything. I didn't see who. I just saw that. I just saw that. It was like Luke, Okay, it's it's because the guys are not being invited to camps. You'd expect something to happen sometime soon. I can see Caleb still leaving though. Yeah, me too, me too. It's neither to me. It's neither here nor there. And last night I was with some people that says, you mean to tell me you don't want to pack ten reigning player of the Earths. Okay, he still has
his issues. He's got to score, he's got to make things happen, and he's got to play well in the stretch. Yes, I mean, same same things you've seen. Yeah, I'm sure he didn't wake up one day and say I'm gonna do better. I mean, you know, I was saying he is what he is. Yeah, I agree with with the people. With the new people coming in, how's that gonna work? Yeah? No, I get it, you know, And I mean I don't know did this last guy, that Tommy guy, is that his replacement or
if if love leads, does he go get one more guy? Yeah? What happens there? Right? Well, like we said yesterday, they said no movement until I hear from these guys and the and then he got a guy. Right. You know, I'm not going to date anybody until well, hey, you to dinner, let's go out. It is not the right analogy. Is that that's a perfect analogy. Okay, there she is. I'll go out with her guys out of town. You have a chance my girls outtown since yeah, no, I so we'll see, Yeah,
we'll see. You know, I sit here and I think about the fact that we're still talking about football. We're still talking about basketball still. You know, it's kind of like it never ends. Well, it never ends, and we'll talk about this before we go for summer off. But to this point, how would you rate the school year? School year? Athletically? It's been pretty good because the tone was set by football, right And I know in the end people feel like it ended bad because because Jed Fish
left and all that, all that went with that. But we still feel pretty good about Bran Brandon. But you don't know, is you know, on a scale of ten seven and a half, maybe inching towards an eight. Yeah, yeah, because the women's basketball team kind of was rocky rock and then it got kind of good. You know, basketball had a great regular season. It fell a little bit short. So that that's why maybe
that's why you don't give him an eight. You know, baseball is going well, softball is pretty good, but it's not yeah, classic Arizona softball. I'm gonna I don't know, I'm gonna say like seven and seven eights. Okay, No, No, that's that's pretty much an eight. I
mean, I agree with you. It was a fun year. The only thing that wasn't fun, And mister Dave he keeping that go and the president and the whole financial thing and the big twin Big twelve, and that's that doesn't really nothing, because I think it's gonna be a bresting in disguise in terms of for Arizona athletics. Well not well, because the future looks very good, I know, but in the end, I mean I'm still sitting here today in the end wishing that the PAC twelve what didn't go away.
I'd still rather be in the PAC twelve. True, true, But that's a you problem, you said, But I still feel like I still feel like it was bad for college athletics that the PAC twelve is not around anymore. Yeah, yeah, no, I don't disagree with that. But for Arizona's case or situation, I mean, yeah, there is Arizona in a basketball conference. Yes, are they in a football conference? They have a better chance to give the league to compete at the at the highest level.
Yes, I agree with those things, but I already missed the PAC twelve. You already missed the ex girlfriend. Get I miss Yeah, you know, I miss not sitting here planning for an l A trip next season or whatever all that stuff. Let's go. We have Adam on the hook, all right, breaking news, Okay, take any of them him, anything from him. All right, get ready to get ready to go. We'll be right back.
