This is I on the Black with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services. Make sure your most prized possessions katz R two side and iHeart Radio Station The Good Afternoon, everybody, welcome too. On the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jakins. Also got our guy Jason in today on a Wednesday, Yes, ump day, up day. Only one more day for Steve. Yes on Friday, taking a long weekend, leaving me behind. Yes, you
have you a long weekend here, I gotta travel yesterday. Good afternoon, everybody. A lot of things going on. Exciting news on the baseball front. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and talk about it. Yeah. The Wildcats baseball team. I pulled off. It was a nail bider of a win. I got. I got caught up, and then I'm watching it at home, and then I went out to lunch. I was out with my Wednesday crew. Were over at Postino on on Grant Road. And it's it's not a sportspark kind of place, right, It's more of a kind
of a fun restaurant, people hanging out, having a good time. But we've had we had like three phones on the table, all had the game on, and you'd have thought we were Bob Dobbs or something. We're yelling and we're clapping, and um, we're pissed off because they were. They gave up a lead and then they wanted in a walk off bottom bottom of the ninth inning. Um. Uh you score, uh score run to to
win it. Um. One of the interesting thing UH stats on that was Chris Barrazza relief picture for for Arizona, comes in, gets himself in trouble, then gets out of trouble. They had a first and third nobody out in the top of the ninth, got out of it and then uh um. Then they come up and win in the bottom of the night. But Chris Barrazza was on the losing end of two walkoffs at Oregon stage back to back, so he was on the mound for both of those and then he
gets a walk off. He gets a walk off today in a win puts Arizona in the in the semi finals of the tournament. If you believe Troy Hutchinson, he thinks that they might be in the NC Double A tournament with this win. I reserve my judgment judgment. A couple of stats on that. Brian Peterson posted this that Arizona is now forty eight in the RPI. They're ahead of USC and ASU. They're nine and twelve. Record against Quad one opponents is better than both of those schools, so they might they were
they were those two expected to get in. Well, those two were seeded ahead of Arizona in the in the pactual, but not the NC Double. There are other factors, I honestly, these are these guys are gonna have the same trouble the women did. Yeah, because of other other factors.
I think I think they need one more and that that one's gonna be hard because they're guaranteed to be the lowest seed of the four teams and in the semifinals, so they're probably gonna play Stanford and that's gonna be a hard They did give them a good series. It's yeah, you know, well exactly. I mean, Oregon State was the number two seed and they beat him. So you know, I'm not saying it can't happen. It's just gonna be hard, difficult, but they've got it, you know, they put
themselves. Look, they've done what they needed to do to put themselves in position. Now they've got a chance to get themselves even beyond then if they beat Stanford, who the hell knows what, Now you can win the whole Dame thing. So we'll see. But a huge win again, you know, just one of those nail biting games. You know, they were down four, Oregon State scored four in the top of the first. Chase Davis hit this home run. Steve, you know, I've been watching airs on
a baseball for a long time, forever and ever. I mean, Frank ConA, Dave Stegman, hitters that have come through that have just been incredible. I don't remember a prettier swing than Chase David. Yeah, yeah, I've seen him hit a few balls now, yeah, no question. You know who I really like? Uh is the shortstop? Yeah, just a defensive guy, but he can but he can stick. He scored the winning run, you know, he got on with a base hit. Um they
got, you know they got. They actually almost blew it. They had first and third with with one out, and um and and uh, Chase Davis. It's a hard ground ball to second base, and but it wasn't a hard but it was like a short liner, and so the runner on third because it's kind of held up and hesitated. Then the guy one hopped it and then he tried to go and they threw him out of home.
So that was two outs they had first and second, and then then then then they get the base hit by a Kiko Romero, the kid from CEO gets a base hit up the middle to win it. Mclaurie scores. That scores the winning run. But back to Chase Davis. He hit a home run today. You don't normally from the outfield camera, guy hits you know, guy hits a rocket. You always see the ball off the bat right, you see the trajectory of the ball. Chase Davis hit this so hard
you could not see the ball off the bat. The ball was just gone. Yeah, he's a tough he you he does not get cheated on his swing, does not. He does not hes. He's gonna make some money in Major League. He's unbelievable swing. He's like Tiger when he goes up and takes at it. Well. I, you know, earlier in the day, just I came across the video of of Ken Griffy Junior. He hit three homers in a game on this day and whenever and his three swings.
I said, that looks like Jase Davis, you know, or Chase Davis looks like Ken Griffy jus unbelievable left hand swinging, beautiful natural swing. We do. You're on the R and I on the ball. How are you guys? This is Gabriel calling from California. Hey, how are you guys doing? Gabriel? Gabriel, Fine, let me let's let's first see what you're gonna talk about, because I have some talking to you. Okay?
Cool? Um? So I think so um? This was reported today that uh that it called you call that a reporter from O calif Home who works along the Oklahoma talks about basically reported on how Colorado is, um crazy is almost not not necessarily necessary, almost going. Well, they're gonna be Their decision about going into the BIT twelve is gonna happen soon. So I saw a report, Yeah, I saw a report like that yesterday where Arizona was mentioned that they too want to jump. Obviously, M Gabriel, just
because you want to jump doesn't mean they want to take you. But but I saw the same report. I saw some some preliminary reports yesterday and Arizona was mentioned. But that doesn't shock you, does it? Um? So I don't know what's going on behind the scenes. I'm not going to speculate by just hope day Peki and President Robbins have every have all their ducks in a row and do and do all just talking to their legals, defense were
not legal, defendious, every everything. I hope they have all their doc mts cross and also uh and also, um, let me give you this scenario. So when Arizona and Colorado get them, when they decide to go into the Big twelve, and then and then a FU decides to stay in the past twelve because of their whole because of the whole arrogance or stupidity, and I think it's more stupidity. But can ken ken ken that happened? And can a reason to go to the Big twelve and then a SU can
stay because because they're not there? Very bright, I'm gonna say it can technically happen. I doubt that that would happened. I doubt that the border regions, which which has control over this, would allow one to go without the other. Um Can I say this? Um? Well? In Oklahoma, Oklahoma, left to going the SEC and the Oklahoma State didn't didn't like row Row Road, Oklahoma, Oklahoma. So I'm just very interested in in
BA Scen area. From from from my experience with the Board of Regions and no actually knowing some people on the Board of Regions, I'm gonna say it's highly unlikely, probably nine unlikely, that the Border regions would okay Arizona going without Arizona State. And that's just the way it's always been here. Way back when Arizona and Arizona State went into the pack what became the PAC ten,
Arizona State did not want to go to the PAC ten. The Border Regions said Arizona is going, and guess what you are too, and they went kicking and screaming. Arizona State would still be in the Whack or the Mountain West if it was up to them. So just politically in this state, it's different from Oklahoma, it's different from Texas, that's different from anywhere else. I don't believe that Arizona can go to a conference without Arizona State. So so if if, if, if Colorado go to the Big Twelve,
great let Colorado go to the Big Twelve. Who are they gonna go with maybe nobody Arizona. I'm pretty sure Arizona Arizona State are staying together. Well, let's just see what happen, right, all right, and and I'm looking at I'm looking at the article that have right, but hold on, hold on, Gabriel, I'm looking at the article that I think you
you were talking about it in the Oklahoma It's a Big twelve source. So again, everybody's got an agenda when they come out with stuff like this, and so you know, maybe the Big twelve is trying to make something happen, trying to get PAC twelve, you know, schools to work against each other, YadA, YadA, YadA. Again, I caution everybody, don't believe anything until you see something signed. And that's that's basically all we can
do. It's gonna be all kinds of all kinds of speculation between now and until a deal is done. Well, let me also say this, I think Arizona's a deal. Why it's best for Arizona, right, not the whole conscience. That's a there's no loyalty in the past. Well, that's a that's I didn't see and you see that they didn't have any law see
when they left. I think that that's a joke. Yeah. I think Dave hen made that pretty clear that they were gonna do what's best for Arizona, and some people took that to mean Arizona jumping to the Big twelve. I don't take that to mean anything other than Arizona is going to get do what's best for Arizona. Okay, Well, thank you you guys, you're rock. Thank you Gabriel. I was gonna ask him, Uh, Gabriel,
where did you stand on the the Tommy Lloyd situation? I think he was critical of him early to say, like many others, like any other that that said, you know what about what's going on with Paddick in the streets, fire in the theater there, they's gonna be okay. They're turning out to be okay. We'll probably have something in breaking news about another recruit that could be coming here. At least time I was on a list. So yeah, I mean it's not even June, right, Relax exactly exactly.
You know now, you now you got people talking about the lineup that oh they got this, they got that that they didn't have before, and they got like we're you know, go back to your basement base. Right. Well, there was one today on Facebook that was very interesting talking about Arizona. Some guy just randomly said, you know, all those guys can shut up now, blah blah blah. Another guy came in, well, now about his coaching. Now it's gonna be you know, if it's not
one thing, it's the other wrong. You know, he could throw with his right, but he can't he protect it with his left. You know, come on, really, really, you know, what about what about that? What about that guy? Enough? I know guys, well again getting back. You know, Arizona is such a it's a crazy thing watching them play, because you know, they got up twelve to eight, they were down eight to five. I saw that. That's when I got up twelve to eight, and you just knew got up twelve days Yeah, well
they had the league. Yeah, and you just knew four runs wasn't enough and it wasn't and it wasn't Oregon State game. They get they got up there, tied the game, but then Barazza came in and shut things down. They're good, so good, good on Chris Barron, how old um, We're gonna have a chip on it. Later on in the year. How old is he? I don't know, but he's ages a lot.
That's where I was gonna go with it, because he graduate. His last year at the Arizona was nineteen eighty seven, so that puts him about six years younger than he's about my agent. He's twee six. Yeah. I didn't want to say that, but yeah, so the same same we're not doing the same time. Um. Yeah, this year has been so crazy. I'm sure he's got a few great hairs now a few more. Well, he doesn't have much. Oh yeah, I guess he's yeah, just
had a lot too. He's a little thin. Hey, let's talk about real quick about our show today, right, um um um at at three fifteen coach coach who are you? Uh? Cindy. Cindy kulbe is the head coach at Sabino won a state championship, but a delayed state championship. Had they want they were gonna play it on Tuesday, then on Wednesday, then on Saturday. Uh stuck around beat him another local team, Empire for the state championship. Three. A state championship that's their fourth in a row,
fourth fourth or fifth year, fourth in a row. Last time. So because we previous we have the other guy on the guy on right who had Sabino right. Yeah, so U Cyndy Kubi, Steve. I mean, I'm telling you, I just put that up with three hours agoing I forgot who think that's on the things? Who are you? I don't know man? Four fifteen and then a four fifteen big game boomer John Whittaker coming
in. We had some fun with one of his UH with one of his UH posts posts yesterday talking about the most sensitive and least sensitive fan bases, and he had Arizona unexpectedly on the least sensitive side of the ledger. We're gonna fill him in a little bit more on that, but always fun to look at him, the stuff that he puts up, and you know what he gets. He does what he intends to do, which is to get guys like us and others talking about some of these some of these things that
he puts up, which is a very interesting one. Catt or I. We reached out to him. He's gonna be on the show. He was on a few months ago. We'll talk about other listen to Yeah, okay, you know we're we've talked about we did spend some time talking about how he does this, but we want to talk about now, is you know some of the stuff that he's done? Um? What else you know? Are we gonna see college football season coming up? You know what types of
things is he gonna be? Uh? Is he gonna be putting up there? So John Whittaker from Big Game Boomers. So let's go and take our break right now, We'll be back. Cindy Kabi has had softball coach ats being a camp Inasrita Kenny Sabino High School three A state champions over right back.

I think last year at this time we've spoke to you and had a good time. It's gonna let's just make it routine. We'll get you again next year. Yet put us in your calendar for this day next year. How does this one feel? Um? This one, this one feels I mean, you know, just as good as as the last one. And um, you know, teams were a little bit different this year. Um, trying to get this game done. But um, you know, it's still a good feeling. So let's let's talk about that a little bit because
that was quite a quite a grind over at Hill and Brand. You get postponed, you get postponed again. You played, you know, on a Saturday morning. Um, was there any any I mean both teams were having to go through it, right, But still, how does that affect How does that affect a team trying to get ready for a game like that. Well, you know it was hard because you know, the girls get hyped up and they get pumped up, ready to go, and then okay, now it's a let down. We have to wait and then we have to
try to build them back up again, and then we're almost there. We start the game, and then weather hits and then it's okay, we've got to We've got to keep them up and motivated and focused, and you know, it's hard for them. But at the same time, you know, I'm really proud at how they overcame the issues that they were you know, they were faced with. And our principle said it very, um so eloquently. You know, from the beginning, we talked about um, you know,
adversity that we might face. When we saw our schedule. We had to play a lot of teams that were four, five and six A teams, and we talked about the pressure as a privilege and so, you know, at the adversity that we knew we were going to face throughout the season, we thought was just going to be scheduled wise, and so our principal, mister Ramadan, was able to say, you know what, everything that we prepared them for to face was actually the adversity we were going to face.
With the weather, and so we just really felt like the girls were prepared and they did the best that they could and couldn't be more proud of them. So I can't remember the record, but obviously three we had the Stu Point on they had lost one. I think the one they lost one. We gave her a little grief about that one. Let me give you a grief about the three. What happened? So the three that we lost are was one to South Point, Wow, and that was actually that was
a really good game for us. Um. I think that's the best we've played them in years. Um. You know, we were leading until the fifth inning and then um, you know they just caught onto our pitcher and yeah, that but we were we finished all seven innings, so we were sad excited about that. And then we also played Cdo in our opening tournament and so we lost three zero to them. Um. And then the other loss we had was Paradise Honors, which is a phoenix another four eighteen.
Okay, so very good teams obviously legitimate when you when you're playing as well agin you win thirty games, How much did the losses help versus how much wins help? Well, I mean that's you know, when that's how we learn, UM, that's how we make changes, that's how we adjust and and that's how we learn. Resiliency is when we're able to bounce back, we're able to use it to propel us and to learn from instead of let it define us. So I think that you know, we am We accept
those just as much as we accept our our victories. UM, they're just as important. A lot of those lines and Jane knows this. I asked this question all the time about coaches. Just what do you think your secret sauces? You want? Two? Now? Right? Is that right? Tune a row and well this is my third with Sabino, but my second as head coach. Okay, okay, so you're okay, So what is your secret sauce me in being uh the coach that has won these two or
three. I think it's trying to create a culture and environment that really encompasses UM team first, and you know, the girls not being afraid to make a mistake, UM, not being afraid to take leads, to take charge, to ask questions, UM, to be students of the game. I think it's just creating that culture of a team first that really creates. You know, that really makes a difference. You know when you when you talk about that, there's you know, there's the culture that you want, but
then there's the culture that you have. Um you know, how what what does a coach like you do to to create that to get the girls to you know, understand, this is what we want, this is what we need, and to kind of buy into that. So the last couple of years, you know, we we start our season off with a breakfast and we all get together as a whole program, UM varsity and jv and we talk about the subneer standard and we let you know, we may guide them
as coaches, but their input is what drives this. And so if they feel like they've got input and who we are as a program, we feel
that that really helps them to buy in and have ownership. And this year we had Stacy Iveson come out and talk to the girls about what it means to be a champion and what it means, you know, what it's going to take the stay a champion and it's her the way that she spoke to the girls, and you know, one of the things we really embraced was she talks about, you know, be where your feet are and take it one hurdle at a time. And so you know, of course we always
you know, we want to be in this endgame. But you know, if we had to walk it back and we had to say, Okay, we're going to do one game at a time, We're going to prepare you know, our biggest in our biggest rival, or our biggest game is the next one we're going to play. And so that's how we really tried to prepare them and they embraced it. We went from there. So you said, is it five straight? Is that what you said? Prestreight for you
guys have won four straight? Right straight? So a little dynasty. What's the what is it? Michael over there? Now? It's almost expected or maybe not it is. And you know, we've talked a lot about pressure.
Um. We have a shirt that we wear. On the front it says Elite Mindset and on the back it says pressure is a privilege, UM, And we've talked a lot about that and embracing embracing the pressure because you know, we've worked really hard as a program, even before you know, I came to Sabino, they've worked really hard at creating a culture and creating a program that you know, with these standards. And so now that we've done, you know, well we have to embrace the pressure and then um
and prepare for it. And that's how we kind of try not to let the the circumstances or the events become more than what they are. So um. You know, one of the other things that we've talked we always talked about is that, you know, having to have a leader or leaders on the team. Sometimes it can be players, sometimes it can be a coach, you know, who leads in a way that you don't have to have an on the field leader. But what what what did you see from your
team in that respect? Who do you think were the leaders on your team and how did they lead? What did they do to say earn that earn that title? I mean our seniors, our seniors were great this year. UM as far as stepping up as leaders, you know, we didn't have to really, we didn't name a captain, but I think our leaders stepped up in so many different ways. You know, we had a leader as
a short stop, um that really works with the infield. We had you know, two leaders in the outfield with our little twins that you know, and and then we had you know, our leader behind the plate that was, um, you know, leading from leading the whole field. And then we you know, those are our seniors that you know that are just in in our third basement. Is that she, you know, is one that leads by example. Our seniors just in their own way have stepped up to
help lead their teammates. Um. So you know, I think I've read somewhere that they said, I have you know, a bunch of coaches on the field. Well, when you've got you know, kids that are students of the game just as much, they just naturally fit into that position. So our seniors have been incredible this year. So how many do you lose and what do you get back? Um? So we lose six seniors this
year, and who returns and how does that look going to look? Well, you know, we we uh, we still have our two pitchers that predominantly pitched this year, which was our sophomore Avery and our junior Soriyah. And you know, we've got a sophomore and a junior middle infielder that will probably you know, take over. Um, we've got a catcher that's played first base for us this year. So she'll try to fill in behind the plate um. And then you know, we've been bringing up and keeping some
of our younger athletes the program. We carry them with us as much as we could through our tournaments and then through postseason so that they could experience postseason and they could experience the fastness of this level so that it wasn't it wouldn't be a shock for them, you know, next year, it's something that they can kind of flow right into. So just a question, as you
know, someone who's who lives here. You know, it used to be that, you know, the good teams where the teams where the kids were in their neighborhood went to the school. How has that changed over time?
You know with open enrollments and things like that. Where do your players come from that allow you to continue to be this good Well, I think we're still pulling from our you know, from our area and that's you know the success of the program really helps as far as bringing the interests to abino Um, you know, but it makes it difficult when you have you know, programs like uh, you know stell point Um for example, and I went to the stoll Point and so you know, it's uh I understand that part
of it. I understand that, but I think we're still pulling from our area, and um, you know, hopefully the program will continue to be as successful to be able to retain students in our area. Yeah. Well so having said that, then you know, how how is it that you you know, you have a program then that that is getting the neighborhood kids and that is you know, why is softball that good out there? Who
helps along with that? That's far I'm not sure. Well, I'm like, like, you know, when you're talking about if you're getting kids from the neighborhood, you're eight year olds, ten year olds, twelve year old you know, teenagers, they've got to be playing softball out you know, in the in the Sabino area. How is that happening that your your program can be this good by really drawing from the region or from the area.
You know, Club softball Okayum, you know, Southern Arizona has has some really good softball talent and you know, just the club softball teams and good coaching continuing to to build athletes as they're coming through the ranks and coming through the levels, and um, you know that's it helps make high school coaches jobs a little bit easier when you know you're getting players that are playing for quality teams and coaches and um, you know, it just makes things easier.
And also you can have some competition now that we saw the Empire is building something over there as well on the east side, so that east side both softball is gonna be pretty good. And I'm sure a lot of them play together. Well, yeah, after the tournament or after our championship game. You know, we have two players on our team and I think like three or four on Empire's team that you know had to go, you know, take off to the tournament and Phoenix to play together. Um, so
you know that made for an interesting dynamic. But I'm sure, you know, they've been playing together for a while. I'm sure that everything just kind of fell right back into place a minute. They were able to take the
field together. Well, we talked about this yesterday. I can't remember with who, maybe it was the coach from yesterday, but these girls have grown up together, right, even little little girl ly little league, I don't know what it's called now, um, where they're eight years old and they by the time they're sixteen, seventeen, they know exactly how good they are because they're grown up together playing. Yeah, so it helps you helps with chemistry and all that. M that sure does, all right, it sure
does. So so next year, you know, are we're gonna be here talking about this again? Or you know what, how do you go into next year? You know you've won four state championships in a row. How do you go to the next year? One you want to have expectations, but two you also want to make sure that people keep their wits about them on stuff like this. How do you do that? Well, I think the biggest thing is you have to stay humble because one thing about this aim
is that you know it. If you're not humble, it's going to humble you pretty quickly. Um. I've learned that as a cot and as a as a player, that you have to stay humble. Um. You can be hungry, but you need to stay humble. And so I think, you know, as we get back together and we prepare for next year, you you know, we have to keep that in mind. And um, we you know, continue to bring resources to the girls, to pour into
the girls. And um, I think there's enough girls that have been around as we talk about our core standards that will help carry on the tradition and the leadership. Um. So it's I think we'll be I think we'll be okay. Um, you know it'll be a different look, but um, I think we'll be okay. Do any of the any of the the young women are going to be going to college playing? Yes, we have,
Um, we have one. Our short stop is still undecided. Um. We are two of our outfielders, the twins, they're going to East as on A College. And we have our surveaseman who's going to Scottsdale Community College and our catchers that's going to Fort Lewis College in Colorado. Okay, great, congratulations to them. Yeah, man to you again. I just opened up a Facebook post. There's an art. There's a let's say, discussion going under Andy Morales's uh Facebook Facebook feed about it's it's referring to South Points five stad I read it earlier and people being you know, well, they get to recruit and yadda YadA, y hadda and that kind of stuff, and it's like, I get it, But then how do you explain Sabino's fourth straight state championship? Right? Right? I thought that
was one of the first things I thought when she came on. Yeah, no questions again parents, right, uh, talking about stuff they know or don't know, but bringing out in the public. Hasn't this always been the case with this specific topic. Yeah? Well again, you know, they're a private school. It's not their fault, right, They're a private school. Go ahead and tell you explain. Okay. The argument is that let's let's let's just say the name, that's South Point as an advantage because they
can get students from throughout the area. They do offer scholarships and so you know players they say, you know, they feel like, well, you know, the good players you know get attracted there. But still one, you gotta like the school. Do you gotta be smart enough to get in the school? Right? Three? Afford the school, and afford the school because not everybody gets a scholarship, right And and is there some recruiting going
on, no doubt. I mean, you know, suth Point actually got in trouble remember a few years back for football recruiting you're not supposed to. We know that that private schools do. Um. You know, my kids went to a private school and I was a small school, private school. But there was this one particular athlete who wanted to leave the school and go somewhere, to go to a bigger school. And and our athletic director basically told me, he said, you know because he went through he went there,
you know, in middle school. Right, so he wanted to go to high school at a big school, you know, frankiemboo And uh right, great. It was a really good athlete. He would have been a good, good player no matter where he went. But um, you know, Paul Bernoski, who was the athletic director at the time, convinced him and said, you know, wherever you go, they're gonna find you, so just stay. And he was right, and he was right. He was Frank, you got a four year scholarship, got a master's degree.
He's an investment banker now and doing really well and taking a large part because he stayed where there were people that cared about him and and all those things. Now, you know, these kids that go to South Point, it's because they can't, right, And there's nothing wrong with that, right, you know, my son wanted to go to South Point, and then he went and he did his visit, and then he decided to stay at Saint Gregory. Right, And he had a great time at Saint Gregory. Right.
Right, my son had the same opportunity. It was soccer. It was soccer because they have Wolfgang. He played for Wolfgang forever, great soccer program. Uh, the same group that the Cameron was in. A fantastic team. They went all over the country and the paper are just closed. The paper are just closed. There's no way we're gonna be able to send him to South Point. The paper had just closed. What are we gonna
do? And half went to South Point, half went to foot Hills and they went both won state titles and everything was fine, right, eventually, guess what it all turns out fine? It does look south Point has always been south Point without questions, and they have not always been good at everything?
Correct, right? Correct? I mean there was I mean they didn't win a state football championship till just a couple of years ago, and they've been around forever and ever, and they didn't want it was the state basketball championship they had won one. His dad dad. No, No, the you a Miller's guy, Miller's assistant. God, we had them on the show from Cincinnati. The dad the dad no, yeah, uh um.
The dad was the coach. Okay, mister, yeah, but you know so south Point A. South Point has always been a private school that can draw players from everywhere, and they've not always been good at everything. Well, so you know they are now aren't Aren't schools able to kind of recruit outside now? Well, they Cindy said, She said they might drop mostly from their area. With open enrollment they can get But you know that's what are you gonna drive across the time to go to Sabino probably when you can
probably go to CDO or Flowing Wells or one the other. No, but if you're this parent spending enough time to write this, you're gonna be a guy or a woman who says, m where's the better programs at form my daughter or boy to have a success athletically? Right? That I might? I might, you know, I mean so it's look, it's it's a it's an argument that's been going on forever, forever and ever, and to to to bring it up now, you know, to kind of maybe take
away from what some of these kids are achieving. It's like, go to bed. Well that's all that. What's your point, right, It's like an old point. I mean, okay, you threw it out the somebody tests that their kid didn't win a state championship in salth Points won five in
a row. The sun will come up tomorrow, it will, It really will, you know, you know, But anyways, its just just a long I saw that to a long argument that's been going on since, I mean since I was sure in high school, you know, I mean we all saw a stalth Point that you know as a place where but you know, when I was in high school, salth Point wasn't good at everything, you know, and in fact, they were terrible at some sports. Right,
They're terrible at wrestling. Um, they were okay at baseball. That was around the time that Ed Bossburg. Can those guys were you know, starting to come through there. Um um there was another guy, um Mark carry on. You know some of those guys. But you know, they weren't good at all. They weren't. They were really not good at basketball
for the longest time. I think it was until Jim Flannery went over there, and you know, it ran a program for a long time and they got better, but they still didn't win a state championship until just a few
years ago. And that school is decades old. My mother in law, who's eighty something, went there, So you know, I mean, it's it's it's but it is Steve, as you said, it's unfortunate that, Yeah, people, you know, get all worked up about the single Send your kid to a high school that you think that they can succeed at. Let him play sports and let him have a good time. Well, and that's just sports academically is going to be the most important thing at the end
of the day. That's what I think. The advice that your a d gave Frankie, who's a great kid, I met him for that contest, Uh, is exactly. And I see this for the NBA and NFL. If you're good, they will find you. I don't care if you're one, A, two, A, three, four, whatever you are. If you're good enough, they will find you. If you're not good enough, you're not gonna you're not good. You're not gonna make They're not spending
millions of dollars just to say, oh, give us a try. Yeah, you know, at the at the big level, at the highest level. Absolutely. Anyways, all right, I asked you off off air if you have a pool one that I used once a year and my kids loved it well, and that's what they're for. Yeah, but they're all gone. So now I'm just trying to keep the pool from not going green. You both, But I've got a beef with the pool industry. Look the prices for their damn parts. Oh well parts and the little the white,
the plorine things. But my god, so there's this one part that I've not had replaced twice. Okay, it's a it's plastic, it's made out of it's made out of plastic. Probably constant eighty five cents. Man, that's an exact dation. Maybe it's three dollars. Okay, it's two hundred dollars. Okay, I had replaces well back. So now this clamp on my poolpump, I thought it was busted, but it turned out it was
not just a bolt on. It was busted. But it's this crapass clamp that's got this little screw on it that I thought the screw was stripped. It on any good you can't just buy the screw. You have to buy the clamp now. I go, I go online, and this has nothing to do with sports, by the way. I go online and I see the part for one hundred and thirty to one hundred and fifty bucks. But I need it now because the pool the pump hasn't been running for a few
days and it's going green already. And I'm leaving town on Wednesday. I'm not gonna be if I'm not gonna be able to get the part online before I leave. So I got to find this part in town. I find it in town three hundred plus dollars, so more than twice what it is online. And then you have someone to put it in. Right, No, I can put it on. But then I found out I had taken it to, you know, a pool store. And then I find out
there's nothing wrong with the clamp. It's just the bolt got stripped. But they didn't detect that they were gonna sund me the damn three hundred dollars clamp when it was a twenty dollar part that I needed. So you got the twenty dollars party. But even there, I saw that part online for any fair from twelve thirteen dollars twenty five bucks here in town. Piss me off. So if you got a pull, fill it up with dirt. That's what I'm gonna do with mine. I think we all shoot make it into
a planter. Yeah here, anyway, I just had I I've been working on this all day long. I finally I got the part. I'm pissed off, and but I'm gonna get my pools done and it won't be green in a couple of days. Yeah, okay, Now we get off to the Jay rant over the day. What do you think, Jason, Um, I've never had a pool before, so I'm really sure. I was gonna say, that's just people with money problems. It's its first world problem. It definitely his first world problems, no doubt about. He was doing
a little by little. I saw you. I said, you're going, what the hell are we talking about? This is not what I signed up for as an unpaid intern. You listen to this rant about swimming pool. I had a row with me. He has a pullet. I had a rant. I just want those guys at the pool store. You know what I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna email them that rant and so hey. But by the way, we need a pool sponsor, so come on all right, so there you go. Anyways, I'm dead, Um, I'm still
fired up about Arizona baseball. Steve. That was it was a fun game to watch. I watched it in pieces, you know. I was watching it at home, then went to the pull store. So I'm listening to it in the car and I'm driving across town to my lunch. I'm listening it in the car. Then we've got it on phones on the table and we sat there and watched it and they win the game, and you know,
good for Chip Hale again. Chip. You know, another guy that's taking a bit of a beating, right, you know, a A bunch of people have said, you know, he's he was not the guy he's. You know, it's the same people they're talking about Tommy Lloyd. It's honestly, and people are just some of those who said that about Kaitlin Lowe. People just like to complain. I mean, a buddy of mine who calls in and now said the same thing. At least they must have been
losing. When they were losing, they were down, and I'm thinking the pitching, the pitching who is it worse? And then we'll talk about this man four minutes who he said, who has it worse the women's pitching or the men's pitching, and the I think, come on, get over this really, And then then somebody else texts me they just want yeah, listen there, take that, yeah exactly exactly, and the kid there and I will say that. So so they're they're down, um uh, you know,
they're they're up. They're up, I think twelve eleven or something. They're bringing this pitcher he's got a seven point three er. You just go, Holly hell, he doesn't. He didn't have any better body better than that in the bullpen. And then the guy does the job right, he does, He does the job get you know, doesn't allow anymore runs, and they win the game Chris Razza, and you feel good about him, especially when you hear that he was on the you know, on the other
side of two walk offs up at I saw good for him. I saw those and I didn't watch for him inty games when I saw those two because just happened to Channel Surf, and I'm thinking, God, how can they blow these leads? They brew a free them whole. I think they had eight walk off losses this year or something like, didn't that the number?
Yeah around, Yeah, sometimes magic happens on the good side. Yeah, sometimes, yeah, so you know, but yeah, yeah, I know, I'm I'm excited for Chiff Hale, feel good about about the baseball team doing that. And uh, you know, you know what that game between Oregon and Oregon State, well, Oregon State needs to play to win it because they can still get into the bracket as a wild card. If they end up one and one as the number two seed the tournament, they'll get
the wild card spot unless Stanford doesn't get in. So we'll see what happens. But anyways, all right, we've got enough time for a quick call. Thanks you Gabriel for calling in before. Uh and then see and then we'll have some breaking news. And it was on the basketball news. Continues to kind of search out and see what happens. It doesn't look like two ballas is going to come back, right we've kind of thought that right away. That happened when I remember I wrote that story. I says, you
know, he's gonna jump and and and we'll see. He says he's leaving the options open. Whether that's believable or not. Well, he's got to decide by thirty first, thirty first Tuesday, right Wednesday, thirty first Wednesday. Yeah, if he comes back, gonna be a little I did see that the Kansas got a guy back today. Uh and now everybody's seen Kansas is the hands down favorite to win, to win the national Nico gets you see hand Yeah, we'll see how hands down that is. Yeah, but
they did. They get to the sweet six teams here, they lost in the lost because self is not cursing thirty two right around a thirty two. Yeah, so they then after last year, who knows the favorites are no good Houston, Bamo, all these teams. Yeah so but yeah they're they're already handy. Kansas state the national championship next year. Kansas, I mean Kansas. Guse me. Kansas threw a little spice in their mind stakes drinking.
Okay, cool cool cool. So breaking news from from Jason here and uh and then we'll have a big game Boomer probably time to get us on him too for his stuff. I'll have to go to Twitter. So we got to talk some Celtics and Heat. Celtics and Heat. Yeah, yeah, I didn't watch the game last night. What did you see? I watch like the first half of the game. Um, it be sporting.
Yeah for me, I don't know. It's hard for me to watch like Celtics basketball sometimes because they are such a tonted team, but the way they play up and down all the time, it just gets kind of like frustrating for me who likes to watch good basketball, Like the Nuggets, they play like really smart good I can drobble basketball, And then you watch the Celtics just jacking up threes every possession like I play all the time. I don't
know. Sometimes drowball for me. Yeah, I hardly watched any of the game either. Yeah, I'm ready for the finals. Yea, here's the sucky thing, the finals. Stone scarts with June first, Right, we may go a week without any basket. Yeah, I probably is, so ye wait till it's over. Wait till it's over. Do you would go for two months? Baseball? Man got baseball? Dodgers ran their first place, their first place. Do good. It's not my sport either, so Jackson, we just have each other. Yeah. Oh wow, it was
cool. Yeah, you're going to break out, break out the mandolin and the candles over here for pool. It's green right now. We'll wait till you get that. Screw it all right, man, We'll be right back. It's breaking News at the top of the hour with Jason stick around.
