This is Eye on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen, powered by Nova Insurance Services. Make sure your most prized possessions KATCR two, Sad and iHeart Radio Station. Hey, good afternoon, everybody walking to Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. He's Jagans. All of a sudden, we've got a boy Jason in here today. You take a shower, j and look at all the stuff. The calls come in. You know, I took I took like
three showers last week. They were calling where were you? For like a week? You could I got just where are you? Guys? Who are you? What's going on? Where? Well? You know, and we were warned if we left, a lot of crap would happen, And god, where do we start? I mean, holy cow? I just you know, I just I'm sitting down in Rocky Point and I'm you know, obviously have my stuff down there, and I'm looking. I'm like, dang, we need to talk about that. Dang, we need to talk about
that. Dang, we need to talk about would not get to it all, but we should. Baseball. You a Baseball n Il again, more stuff the sons today. We have Jason with some breaking news later, but live. Who in the world would have thought that while nobody obviously that came out of nowhere. Everybody was louting for the PGA Tour players, right and everybody involved. Mom and dad are getting a divorced. No, no,
they're getting remarried. You know. It's funny because you know, and we'll get to more to this with with Don Pooley, who's gonna be our guest at three fifteen. But you know Rory McElroy, who's been the most outspoken person on the PGA side of it, and who sits on a board of policy for the PGA Tour, So what does the board of policy do if they're not involved in this kind of a decision? Right, It's funny. I think he said, um, okay, okay, but I still hate
him? Did say, Yeah, he did say that. He still he said he still hates it, and he thinks it'll go away at some point, and maybe that's what will ultimately happen. But right now we don't know. We know very little about what this means official. All we know is that the Live Tour and the PGA Tour have called a truce, not even a truce. They basically signed a peace treaty that they're going to somehow work together. The money that's been going to the Live Tour, some of that
now is going to the PGA Tour. But we don't know is how this is going to work. Um, because I said Don Pooley, former PGJA Tour guy, more recently a Champions Tour guy and local guy University of Arizona. We'll just get his perspective on a pro golfers view of all that's going
on. We had him on recently, maybe he was on before the Masters Masters, Yes, right, but you know, I'm sure don you know, as a former player, just kind of I'm sure he cares a lot about what happens to the PGA Tour, and we'll be interested to see what one what he thinks might happen, what he hopes will happen, just what he thinks of all of this. Right, Okay, since we left, the baseball team came and went, Yeah that was unfortunate. Yeah, they
just didn't play. They kind of played well und have been full Well, you know, the pitching did what the pitching has been doing, all year long, but the hitting didn't do what they hitting had been doing all year long. But it was as simple as that. And let's also say that those some of the best baseball teams in the country, right, and you have to compete with the best teams in the country, and they just didn't. The TCU moved on, so they were good. They beat the Arkansas
to host and Santa Clara beat him. So if you're gonna be the sixty one and one to sixty four, you better be one of sixty four and be good. Yeah, and then you know, and look, arguably they were, but they just didn't play very well, you know, I know, as as always there's all those saying, oh, well they never should have been in. Okay, then who would have gone in and done any better? Probably nobody, But just you just you know, you got a team gets on, the team gets hot again. They got pointed out a
million times, you know, leading into that. The Mississippi was the last team in the in the tournament last year and was the national champion. Yeah, you just you never know. Arizona just didn't play well and they were out in two. A lot of changes too, I think, do you have anything from baseball breaking news. It's not really breaking news, but I think they do. You probably don't. I also like awards, Okay,
yeah, it's good. So so after they lost, or even during the stretch that they were playing right regular season, Uh, the questions were about their pitching, right, you mentioned that a couple of times already, and so eventually they lost their pitcher pitching coaching coach, as did uh and and
uh, they have to change in softball as well. They've got they apparently have a new coach there as well, so, um, the coach from Loyal and Merrimount, so both look all season long for both softball and baseball, it was about the pitching and that's why they weren't playing Arizona quality of baseball and softball because of their their their issues and pitching. And so both coaches, both head coaches Kaitlin Low and Chip Hale, may changes and their
pitching coaches. So so let's see what happens with that. We try to get the chip on today, right or right? He's he's pretty busy, you know, I mean, you know, the season ended and he's he's recruiting, he's got transfer portal stuff, he's got to hire a new pitching coache. Um. You know, I look, we made the ask and uh, yeah we might get him on. Yeah, we'll get him on maybe next week or something like that. Some things have to settle for him, and we get that. But you know, it was very timely I
thought to try try and get him on the show. And so you know, no, no, uh, no hard feelings about that. He's got to do. He's got to do what he's got to do, and we'll get him at some point, right, Okay, so let's move on. That's just tonight's game Denver in Miami play one to one, not a surprise. Uh, we'll see who it wins tonight's game. I don't like how these games have any spread out. So well, you'll be more like you'll like a week and a half into and this is only the third game.
You'll be you'll be older, we'll all be older. Yeah, but gray hair will be more gray. But how are you feeling about your I have no issues yet yet. Game four whatever for us or whatever for us? You think they want tonight? I think they win tonight. I think they win tonight. Uh if they go two to two in dot com, I'm okay with that okay, within six I think if they win one of these games will be okay. They didn't play well. You think if they lose
both weight, it could be a trouble, could be trouble. But but I think they're the better team. But haven't we said this to miami'sponents all this play the whole run. You can't if it's if it's karma for them or or just just deserts for Miami. Good for them. That's how you play on those days. Look at you, he's listening to me. Yeah, he's listened with Miaim might have momentum. Yeah, I think they do. Honestly, that word, if you know that word. He doesn't believe
in it. Do you believe in momentum? I definitely do for sure. Yeah. He also believed the Lakers would take them too, So we talk about that a different day. But we'll see what happens tonight. I think that they didn't play well, But I'm one of those guys. You play well, the other team made a difference because of it. Yeah, you know, and Miami's played out of their minds. But and Butler didn't even
have that great of a game the game two. I know we didn't have a game one Game one, he didn't have a great offensive offensive game, but he played really well, really good. Yeah, right, and it takes. It's gonna be fun. It's a good series. Yeah. Has there ever been a team that's been on a more unexpected role than than Miami,
you know what I mean? The way just yeah, just I mean, nobody thought this was coming, with all this momentum, you know, they but you know, they barely get into the they barely get into the playoffs, you know, the eighth seed, and now they're sitting here really with sort of in the with you know, kind of in the in the better position in the NBA Finals. I didn't watch this, but the ninety nine Nicks apparently did something similar. They were the ac They made it into
the finals as well. Yeah, Antoni right, ninety night. Yeah, I think so. I didn't watch it, so I'm not sure. But I don't know how they're run comparis to Miami's run, but I'm store is very similar. And they came up with Shore because they played the better team quote unquoting, yeah, and came up Store. So it's kind of similar. So, uh, it's been fun. I mean, come, they were they were out in the first round. Almost. Look, I feel
like it. I feel like it certainly has kept the public's trist Oh yeah, all those people out there who root for hunderdogs, right and and uh, the ratings have been fantastic, even though the markets are not Miami surprise, Like this is one of the highest I think highest rating finals since like I don't know, I don't know how long, but it's definitely like up there. So and I was I was talking about that, like you said, Um, Deniver is in the big market. Um, people already knows
about them. Yeah, I don't know about them. Who's this guy? You can even not even cheape? Oh no, the dude can play? Yeah for sure, didn't you play? Yeah, so we'll see tonight. Tonight's I don't think it's a pivotal game, but game four, to me is a pivotal game. Is Miami. If Miami doesn't win tonight, they have to win four, right right? If it Denver wins, they should win four if that makes sense. Yeah, okay, yeah, so we'll see what happens to what else is going on? So much so much else?
Um, well you know we don't where okay, where were you? I was gonna go with the with the big twelve, back twelve, all this stuff we we knew once we were gonna do. That's something could happen, and it's every day is another. It's kind of gramping up well and you still don't know what's real and what's not right because you got tends on who you believe you got you got the The UA President of Bobby Robbins,
spoke to the media today. He's in DC for a for a summit that the that the UFA is hosting on NIL and transfportal and realignment and all that stuff. Um So he was on the pawfeine Bomb Show and then he had he held a press conference and you have you have a bunch of a bunch of national writers reporting that the PAC twelve has come up with a tentative grant
of rights deal, a verbal grant of rights deal. Explain explain, meaning that that's that's where one of the things that has to happen is that all the schools have to grant their rights to the pack, their TV rights to the PAC twelve. So then the PAC twelve can go get a deal done. Okay, So they're all in unison and that that supposedly this grant of rights agreement has been put together so now there and so that they can finish the TV right, the TV deal. So you had multiple media organizations and
reporters, uh reporting that. But then you had Bobby Robins he said, I haven't heard anything like that. He publicly said, I don't know of any grand of rights deal. So who knows what the hell is real man? And some people had said that has been in the watch, that had actually been done, yeah a while back, and nobody's nobody reported it right until now, so it may or may not be true. Uh. Still,
Arizona's name has been mentioned a few times going somewhere else. So well, a lot of buzz and this is why we're gonna have Michelle Gardner on from the Arizona Republic up in Phoenix, covers ASU, all the ASCU sports, a lot of buzz and about as U and Arizona possibly splitting that that ASU would stay in the PAC twelve or wherever the PAC twelve lands, and ASU could be moving law in Arizona could be moving along to the Big twelve
with Colorado. UM Bobby Robbins again and we'll talk more about this you know, said that he wants to stay in the PAC twelve. He thinks Arizona will will stay in the PAC twelve, but he's they're gonna go wherever they get the best deal. So and what what they think in terms of what they think is the best for the University of Arizona. I have maintained all
along that I couldn't see the two schools split. Thinks there's too much buzz, too much rumor innuwendo to sit here and continue to say that that is impossible. Okay, so are you cracking a little yeah on that? I that is you said zero. I still think. I still think that that that the schools are going to do everything they can to stay. Again. I just think that if Arizona doesn't feel it's right for Arizona, that Arizona
will leave, and the more important thing that nobody will stop him. Do you think do you think though it's twenty twenty three, do you think in time does no matter or not? If? But when that the PAC twelve we'll eventually dissolved into something else with whatever, maybe maybe in four years, five years or whatever. It just seems that it's crumbling. Just live my
vision for a while. This goes back even a couple of years, has been that at some point there will be four regional conference totally East, West, Midwest. Maybe maybe it's maybe it's like the Fine Maybe it's like the tournament used to be a west, Midwest of Mideast and an east, or whether it's a South and east, a midwest and or whatever. That I think that ultimately I'd like to see cooler, not cooler. It has prevailed
just people be in it for the overall good of college athletics. That I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, but that um, you know, some you know that that cool that just common sense would say, let's rearrange everything into four groups, four regions or regions. And and you know, there's what there's one hundred and thirty one Division one of football programs one a football PROKA. About sixty five of those are
Power five. So let's say you take those sixty five and maybe you take a couple from the group of five that are some of the top group of five, right that are always really good, you know, and maybe maybe you you make a you know what what three or four sixteen team conferences would be sixty four teams, or maybe you go four twenty team conferences, now
you go eighty teams, right, something like that. That there's some order to it, so that USC and UCLA aren't having to go play Rutgers and Penn State every year, you know, and that Yukon isn't in the big twelve playing. Now you're factoring in months. You need money from, right, there's a lot of factors kind to come together. So let's you know, there's so much money to be made, let's figure this out. Yeah, and well that'll be long down the road, maybe by twenty thirty.
That's too logical, too large, Your dream is too logical. So you're gonna work, Yeah, exactly, Hey, we gotta go. Right, We're gonna have my first guest, Don Pooley, former PJA Tour Golfer championstore Golfer Tisona, and you have a guy. We'll just because brain about what's going on with the Live Tour and the PGA Tour and all that's going on there, because it's sounds like a mess. So we'll be right back. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio while just surgery. I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to Why the Ball
here Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera's Jakin's ass and now on the phone, we have golf pro Don Paully. How are you, Don, I'm doing well. Thank you, Thanks for having me on. You need someone like you to sort this thing out with He's gonna live and pro golf and what's going on. I'm I'm sure you think I'm gonna sort this. Please do please, I'm sure you still as of yesterday morning, the players on tour head and hurrying about it. Yeah, we are all in the
dark here. I can just tell you though. My first reaction was total shock, Yeah, that had happened. And then to find out how he did it without letting anybody know. I thought was real cheesy, plus plus totally hypocritical on his part. Any rate, I'm not I wasn't happy about it. That's that's my first thought. I'm sure, I'm sure. You know you still care a lot about what happens to the PGA Tour and the
game of golf and all that. So, as you said, you you're not happy with it, but you know overall, I mean, this has been going on for a couple of years. What have been your thoughts about what could or should happen and then what now has happened. Well, you know, I thought that they'd figure things out eventually, but I thought it would be talked out and everybody would have a say and how it should work
out. And that wasn't the case. I mean, Jay Monahan, the commissioner, and two of his cohorts on the board did this on their own without telling anybody. And you know that happened a few times when I was out on the tour, and I really did not like that. But nothing like this happened. This is the worst I've ever heard. So so if there was a rivalry before, what do you think it's going to be like, now, oh, I think there's there's going to be some animosity to
get over. There's players who turned down money because they thought they were being loyal to the tour, and there's players who took money and said, heck with the tour. So you know that that's quite a conflict there. When we're talking one hundred million dollars to some of these players, it's a ridiculous amount of money. And you know, I didn't I didn't really have a problem with those that took the money, because I mean, how are you
going to make that much money? That's just a ton of money. The only problem I had was where the money was coming from. And I thought, I thought the tour, Well, the tour isn't going to go down that road, and but they sure have which shows they chose my the over principle. I was just gonna say, what do you think the real reason wasn't I think you just answered that, well, I think I think money's the bottom line on all that it be at the lawsuits they were going to
have to go through and cost a lot of money, be it. I think the fact that Kepka one a major and finished second and another major had a factor and all that because they found out that these guys can still play obviously, So I don't know. I'm glad they were talking about it.
I just think they didn't do it right. Yeah, And I think that's the thing that mostly because when you see, I mean, think of a guy like Rory McElroy sits on whatever this board of policy is or the policy board for the PGA, and he had no idea and so what what does that board do that may not get involved? No sense to me, and of all the people on the policy board, I thought Rory would come out swinging and I don't know if you saw the interview he did today, but
he's just laid over. He go as well, I think it's going to be better for golf in ten years. I go, wow, you didn't even go down fighting here. Well he also said, don't I still hate him or somebody? Yeah, you said he still hates to live. But he also said he thinks it's going to go away. Yeah yeah, so I don't. I don't know. I think it's where they're getting all that money now, the Saudiast and you know, with the nine to eleven connection
and all that stuff. It's it's it's just not right. And golf was always above that, but not anymore. Do you think it's going to make the game better, Well, it'll make the game better, and that all the players that are good enough, we're going to be competing against each other. I mean that part will be better. I think the DP World Tour, the formerly the European Tour, is going to be the big winner and all this. They're going to get a ton more money to play for and
everybody's going to get more money out there there. It's it's a big pot of money they're going to throw in there. You know. You you talk about it although it being better, Um, you know, how much are they gonna lose from that? Though? How many fans, how many fans of the PGA who are loving the high horse that they were on over all of this, they're gonna say what the hell and go away? And you
know that'll be interesting to see. I think there's certainly going to be a that's going to be a factor to some And yeah, you can you can tell Michelson he's he's lost his fan base that he that he had because of what he stood up for. Ye So, you know, I don't know how that's going to affect the whole tour. But it's I was very disappointed and in the commissioner and what he did there. So let me ask you, this might be a night you've done questioned by me. Do you follow
it the PGA like you once did? Are you still a big fan of it? Do you? How do you live your life now with regards to PGA. I play a lot of play a lot of pickleball. Now now, I uh, I watched the Majors. I don't watch every week you know, weekend week out like I did when I was playing out there. I watched, you know, everything that was going on. But now now I kind of watched the Majors and that's that's enough golf for me. Yeah,
do you do you? But you obviously pay attention to all the you know, issues going on around it and so oh yeah, now that now that we're looking at this, what do you hope happens? You have any idea yet? I think I think the best case scenario this is gonna produce is we're not going to have the animosity between all the tours anymore. I mean, everybody's going to be under the same umbrella, which I think it's the wrong umbrella, but it's they're all going to be on the same page
on that sense. And uh, you know, I think this is this story is going to go on, certainly for the rest of this year. They have so many things to work out in this framework of a deal that they've done. They've got to get it through the policy board on tour and there's a lot of things to work out still. So you know, we're just at the beginning stages of talking about this. It's gonna happen. It's
gonna be going on all year for sure. Yeah. You know, one of the things that we talked about a second ago was, you know some of this animosity between the players. I mean as recently as what I think it was Saturday or Sunday, Phil Mickelson was ripping Rory on social media, you know, and they've been going back and forth. You know, from from your days around around the game, did you ever experience that level of
animosity among guys? Now, I know social media wasn't around back then, but you know, were there guys who were just kind of unfriendly to each other? Almost Okay, yeah, okay, there's that dude computer. There was animosity, but it was. It was between player and player. There was it wasn't shared with the whole world kind of stuff that's going on. Now. Yeah, so let me ask, could you did you guys watch lip? Did you watch that? I didn't see a single single second?
Did you know? I never saw any of it? Okay, so I didn't either, So let me us. Did they have like loud music? Was it like a party type of festival? One? Oh, they they have they have loud music. Okay, you know the guys were shorts. They play shotgun start exactly. So it's so part of that is kind of a pro am format basically. I mean it's a it's a fun little deal. So that's a billion dollars. So I mean that that's my point of
fun. That's my point in a sense that you know how everybody in the world, dudes, right, we're here talking on a kitchen table here saying that the world wants to go young, they want to be hip, they want to be loud, they want to have fun. And do you think that's part of it where the PGA say, Okay, maybe we're too buttoned up and we want to have a little more more fun to grab the younger crowd. Well, you know, when when the master starts doing that,
then I'll believe that's actually happening. That's a good that's a good fight. But uh, you know, but so can I mean, can the I don't I don't know if there's any way of knowing. But with some of the darts and the bombs that have been lobbed over all of this, can they ever fix that? I mean, I mean it is Rory mick is Rory Michelson, is Rory McElroy ever gonna be able to come up to Phil Michelson and shake his hand, put his arm around him and say, okay, no, no, no problem, dude, We're all good now.
I mean, what do you think that going to happen right away? There's gonna be some blowoff time here, I think, Um, you know, Michelson is near the end of his career, and Rory still has some time left, so Michelson may be gone by the time, and you know, I don't know. Yeah, it's uh, but this is gonna take a long time to work out. They don't even know how they're gonna allow these players back on the various tours, and uh, there's gonna be a big
h a lot of animals to be talking about that that deal. Probably the money that those guys got when you think about you know, I mean we saw a report that the Tiger Woods turned down seven hundred or eight hundred million dollars and that you know that Roy turned down what you know for sure Roy was ever offered. I mean, if he would have gone with them,
he would have gotten three hundred million or whatever he would have gotten. So, you know, and so those guys that didn't take that, as you mentioned at the top, there were some guys who didn't take that money to stand on on something. And now all these guys, right, and all these yea and yeah, what the commissioner was telling him to do, and so they did it. And now the commissioner did the exact opposite. I mean, it's totally wrong what he did, right, and he knows he's
a hypocrite. He says, I'm taking all the blame for that, and that's right, but he is. I mean, I don't know how else you say, So who who did those guys? Who are those guys mad at Are they mad at themselves for not taking it? Are they mad at the PGA tour for talking them out of it? Are they mad at the guys who did tell right now at the at the PG tour headquarters and the commissioner I think you know, he did an about face on all this thing
overnight as far as as far as they can see. And you know, the commissioner says, you know, well things things have changed, and I'm thinking, well, what's changed? We still had nine to eleven. You know, they're still the Saudis what part has changed other than they they've made you put a whole lot of uh your reserves into the into the purse. And yeah, you know, I don't know. So are you glad that you were forty years too early? No? No, I'd have a beach
house now plane today I might even have an airplane for sure. Gosh, that's crazy. So so how much you know, how much do you think that will change the approach? Now? You know? For all the money that's involved. Now, um, do guys do you guys? Our guys the same guys. They're just going to be making more money. I mean, what do you think happens there? Well? Yeah, I think the
character the guys are pretty much gonna stay the same. Uh. Some of the guys have played for money and now this is this is their dream. But that's uh, you know, you put all your your eggs in that basket and that that's not gonna last very long as far as uh, I don't know, eternal perspective. And then we saw very temporal fun thing. Yeah, we saw the LPGA came out and said, well, what about us? Can we can we get can we get some of this? I
mean there there's another issue that's out there. I mean, what do you think of what I think what the Champions Tour is going to have the same issue. They're gonna wonder if they're gonna get any money there. And yeah, you said, thinking, I'm thinking how about guys like me who's retired for fifteen years? How about one of us? Yeah, seriously do you think that's not really I'm not really thinking that, just joking. Just nice to talk about it, though. Do you think do you think the commissioner
will be able to survive this? Uh, that's a good question. I know that they're going to be talking about it. Um. I was. I was disappointed in Rory's rolling over so quickly. So I don't know. But there's five players on the policy board and five independent directors, businessmen that are very successful in their fields. And so I think the commissioner has those five on his side, and he just needs one or two of the players, and he's going to hang on, and you'll hang on in the end.
I know, if we maybe meant talked about this a little bit, is is this good in the end? Is it going to be good for golf? Will golf be better for it? You know? I think in the short run, I don't see how it can be better. Um, ten, fifteen, twenty years from now, who's going to remember. I think it's gonna be fine. Um. I don't know. I don't know where where golf needed to go. But um, I was a little surprised it went this direction. Yeah, I think we all heard it yesterday.
I was like, I gotta be wrong. Yeah, well that's what I think. Somebody, somebody, I don't I don't know if it was Rory or one of the other golfers said that the first time, the first social media report they saw of it, they thought, no, this this is yeah, somebody, Yeah, somebody's making this up kind of thing. Right. It was? It was that far fetched, right, I agree. I A friend of mine, uh was was watching the news early and he sent me a text and told me what happened. And I always sent back

I just heard some news stuff on Rory. Right, he says that he doesn't think the Live is gonna be around in the year. Right. Okay, so explain something to me. If you were a money grab guy for the Live, you still get the money, but then it's then it's over, right,
and then you're back to the PGA. Right, So I guess great, Ago guys. Good for them, Yeah, good for them. And that's what's part of what's got people pissed off. And do you think that, Yeah, I understand that, And do you think that, um well, I would just like to train a thought out that that the PGA. Oh, I don't even know how to say this because they don't even know how to make sense, that they just needed to find a way to get back
to get back with the PGA. And yeah, they What the PGA didn't like was Rory McElroy and Phil Mickelson and Brooks kept gay and fighting fighting, and they want those guys back on the tour. Maybe not Phil Mickelson so much because the guy Polly said, he at the end of his career.
I mean, he's already on the champions for guys like Brooks kept go when and I think Don made a really good point that Brooks kept go winning uh the PGA Championship and finishing second at the Masters had something to do with that. Because Brooks Kepta is a popular guy. They want those guys. They want those guys back on the PGA Tour. Maybe there's some of them that they don't, but a lot of them they do because they are the stars.
Dustin Johnson is still a guy that can go out there and win majors. It's like all those guys. It's like Nichols. Nicholson on the A few convent Yes at the Stanley says, you may not like me, but you want me there. You want me on that wall, right wall, And that's what it is exactly. Let's take the call. Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. How you guys hearing you on the error? We're back, Gabriel, thank you for calling. What's up?
So um so so honestly goes a lot of smoke around um around Colorado about going into the Big twelve. So I just want to comment on you. One of your colleagues, Jason Shear, who runs a wildcare authority, and he posted this on Twitter last week and he said, I quote unquote, since I've seen it a few times, and we'll we'll go on the record here, AFU is unlikely to leave the PAC twelve. Arizona is confident that it can't split when, when and if needed, based on what the
Arizona Border Regions has said. So my thoughts about that is there's something there there and so if if Arizona can persuade the Arizona Border Regions to leave the Pack twelve will leave the pack ex and a su then I think that's probably I think that's gonna be well from what's going on right now, I think
there is about a huge possibility that that could happen. Yeah, Gabrielatt, you know, last time you called, we had this conversation and I'm I'm certain I said that I thought it was highly unlikely that that ASU and Arizona would split. Um, I've you know, as you say, there's been so much smoke about this. I've kind of softened up on that, and I'm hearing a lot of the things that you know, we're all hearing is that it's not I think it's still semi unlikely, but I think it's it
can happen. Are you sure that smoke is not the cannabis in Colorado. I'm just trying. I'm just but you know, I'm not as as set. I'm thinking that they can't split. Let me say this, do you think the issue would not go because they could be one of the top dog dogs in the breath. This goes back to I think I think that I
think that Arizona would go into the pack. We'll go into the Big twelve, and then a SCU would either be in the incompetent Mountain West to a point or at least maybe well, I kind of think that the Big ten will probably go, will definitely go after Oregon and Washington probably maybe USAH,
maybe a full I kind of think. But if but if the both schools split up, I think the Arizona border regions want to say, listen, even though you guys don't splitting up, you guys still play against in the territorial Maybe they could think yeah, yeah, but let me let me troll on a s U. So I know that a lot of I know, a lot of you go ap point cleaning. I do view that view that it whoever goes to ASU are very incompassive to stay stay at best. So
and maybe they're maybe they're the missing links to human evolution. Okay, okay, before you start cussing, Yeah, okay, Gabriel, look, i i'm I'm, I'm I've moved more to your opinion that the schools can split because I I'm you know, we're just hearing too much of that. Yeah, So I don't think it's out of I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. So gay Gabriel, thank you for the call. We appreciate it, Thank you for listening. Thank you guys, thank you,
appreciate you. All Right, it's a lot of factors here, a lot of factors. Um. Yeah, no, I again, I didn't think. I thought it was like ninety eight percent that the schools are gonna Still again, I'm probably down more in the eighty. Well, you brought up a point that we talked about two or three years ago when the semde they're gonna go to PAC ten, right su when kicking. They did not want
to go for that. What Gabriel just said. They wanted to be the big They would rather be the big dog in the whack at that time than to be a middle of the road program in the pack eventually become a giant the festival. The festival was created for ASU to play in it, and they were in the first I don't know how many of the festivals, Arizona gotten one in seventy nine, but they were the you know, that's where they were in it that year that they went undefeated, beating Nebraska in the
festival, finished number number two in the country. They loved that and they did not want to go to the PAC ten. And the border regent said, that's too bad, you're going. And they went and and you know, and what they thought was going to happen is what happened. Okay, let me throw a curve at you or just a question be prepared. So in seventy eight they moved to the PAC twelve, PAC ten and now it's
the PAC twelve. Upon in the book that I'll eventually right, so joking, of course, maybe it's a good idea was fifty years, almost fifty years, if not more. Uh um, who had it best? In the Pac twelve? Pac ten? It's the Pac ten who had it best? I think Arizona has what because of basketball? Because of basketball? But then you know what they're gonna say, because of football they had but they've been They've been good in football like three times, just like Arizona has.
They now they got two, they got two rose balls out of it. Okay, which is great for them. Wouldn't you cut your right armball? But the point being that when you talk about the overall whose status has been raised the most, both athletically and as a university as a result of going to the Pac ten and then the Pac twelve, who is it? Okay?
Okay, So we're doing this because we're doing this radio show in Tusona, Arizona, right uve a stuff we have Michelle and guess what every every you know report that we have down the road will kind of who's had it better? Go sport by sport for let's is real quick. The major sport football wise, yes, okay, has added better. They've had two rose balls, you know, two conference championships. They've been pretty good. Okay,
although competitively against each other, Arizona has been better overall. Stay but when you say whose profile is higher because of and that's where as US is because they got the two ro But the gap isn't as big as it is between the two schools. In basketball, Arizona's way the hell up here and a su is way the hell down and it's no longer has an identity crisis, and everything else is almost the tie. Softball, softball, you know
Arizona, but lately as she's been pretty good. Baseball they've been about the same. You know, Arizona's one you know how many national champions? I don't know. That's my suppress it. It's hard for me to say. So when you know, when you're talking about the two major sports, you got to argue that Arizonas had had the better run. Jason, I know you're just a kid. I know you're just a kid, but you're for your phoenix, right, Yeah, what what's the why didn't you go to
issue, um, the major? They'd have my major that I initially won, and remember I was premed before Oh yeah yeah yeah, okay, So so what what's the perception from your mind being grown up? There up front, right, Yeah, and then you said, okay, I'm gonna go to a right because um, like I said, the more money, um, they'd have a major. Um the campus I don't. I don't like the campuses now they were like spread out and whatnots. Yeah, they're like
different factors. Okay, Okay, so you're kind of not to answer to get answer. Yeah, but we'll have a show and we'll have the hollers and the guys the story in the PAC twelve people will nor as guys who
had it better because it was it's it's a cli. It's kind of a close call because if you say that as you had had a better uh wait all overall image in football, football is a bigger deal too, right, right, some money, but but again, the gap between what Arizona's done basketball wise, basketball wise is so wide that you almost have to argue that
that overtakes what ASU has done better than Arizona in football. Okay, we'll ask more people and if you guys want to call in, and all the people are gonna be biased at Arizona because it's again and I am biased. I went to school there. That's why I ask. I want to know maybe you would have said, let me put it this way, I'm more I think I, as an Arizona fan, am more happy about Arizona being in the PAC twelve, the PAC ten and PAC twelve than maybe a lot
of ASU people. Right. I'm happy that Arizona went there because not only from an athletic standpoint or from a prestige for the university standpoint. When you talk about Robbie elbows with Stanford and cal and UCLA and USC some you know, these great academic schools. I like Arizona being in that. You're being at that party. Whereas if they go to the Big twelve, that's gone and I'm not gonna like that, you know, I won't. I like
the fact that that it's it's best. So it's best. Yeah, it's best, And we'll see, We'll see how they perform in that conference, and it will say that you know, Bobby Robbins has gone on and said that that is a bigger deal. Then people realize to move the academic piece, that it's a bigger deal to the university. Very true. Then a lot of the you know, the general public think it's all about how big is your football stadium and can your basketball program competing if the academic piece of
what's how of all of this is a really really big deal. If that's not a politically correct answer, it's a pretty good answer because it is. It is important. Yeah, because you know and and we and we know that. I mean, the Big Ten is a similar conference to the Pact twelve in that regard. If the Big Ten came calling, we're gone. Oh you know that. Sure of course we're gone. It is the prettier goal. You know, you want to do that. So it'll be interesting
to see how this turns out a ding and I just wish. Yeah, it's not gonna happen tomorrow though it's not because you'll be doing it in two years. Probably, it's gonna take some time. Well, I think by the end of the month we're gonna get more. Well, no more, I'll say that. If if it's not done by June thirty, yeah, then I plus, if Colorado in Arizona leave the PAC twelve, that's it. No, it's gonna it's that's it. It's just integrates, doesn't it.
That's what I'm saying. Oregon and Washington want to be in this. No, Stanford, what's gonna Stanford is gonna say, what the hell are we doing here? They were smarter than this. Yeah, I think it's just no thing. It comes apart at the scenes. Yeah, what's left
right, rood is left now? Now is as you going into the Mountain West, you know where you know, where's Washington State and Oregon State going, you know, maybe maybe the mountain and thinking about Utah, think of all the ground Utah has made since since leaving the Mountain West for the Pac twelve. What happens to them? Yeah, And it's surprising that white Colorado and not Utah. I don't know, you're because you because Colorado has been in the yea, in the in the big one. Yeah, but it
left you yeah, for a better deal. Yeah, and that's what this all this is, that's the better deal. Yeah. Yeah, it's called it's called the transfer port. Look if and we a lot of the people that I was with down and in Rocky Point where the you know, my my my crew that you know, we do lunch with the you know, the football fan crew. So we talk. They don't get tired, they don't get tired of you. No, that's what that's what we love each other. Wax Well mostly family, but anyway to finish. But a lot
of the conversation was we don't want to go to the Big twelve. But as I said before we left, if that's the worst case scenario, will go. I mean I'm not you know, we're we're planning on going to the USC football game, right road trip? US football game that's gone, that'll be gone. Are Rod you know? Are we going to Are we gonna go to Weeko? Are we gonna go to Lubbuck? Are we gonna go to Stillwater? No, we're not. We may go if Colorado is
in it, we may go to Denver. There's no but there's no trips like USC and UCLA where you can just jump in a car, do a little commando raid, go to the game and come back. And the best two teams are no longer there. Right, they're in the CEC. Right, so you get to go to Austin. You go to Austin, but they're gone. But you got you gotta get on a plane and go to Auston. Well, if you want to go to a good game, I
know them. But what they're gone, I mean, they're gone. It's It's what we loved is being able to jump in the car and go to uh, you know, and go to a football game at the Coliseum, Historic at the Rose Bowl. You've done that, You've already done that. I love doing it though, you know, like you get one more chance, man, I know, Man, this is it. Okay, let's go, let's take our break. We'll come back top of the hour. We're gonna have breaking news with uh, what's your name, James Jason and
who are you? Sorry Ja, We'll be right back
