Breaking down all the excess at als. It's Steve Rivera and Jagan Salvens. This is i Ona the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen fifty and welcome back to the Ball Hero Fox Sports. He's Jake. Now we have Jason Wins some breaking news. This is Ia Balls. The Naysmith Basketball Hall of Fame has announced their Jerry Colangelo's Hall of Fame Sties, which will be taking place in
Phoenix on December twenty and twenty twenty three. UM. The Arizona men's men's and women's basketball teams will be a part of the Hall of Fame series. The men's team will be playing Alabama, while the women's team will be playing against Gonzaga. So what what they've done is in one there's gonna be four basketball games in one day up there at the arena at the I guess so yeah, yeah, at the Sun's Arena. Yeah. And so what it is is, uh, the ASU men's and women's teams will both be playing
up there. So when one day in the first session are two women's games, the ASU women will be playing um who did I see? Um? State? As women be playing in Fresno State, Arizona women will be playing Gonzaga. Then in a second session ACU man play Northwestern. In Arizona man play Alabama. And that's on what December December twenty Yeah, at the Footprints Center. So that's a long day. But that's the how long day of
basketball? If you said, if you've ever sat through four games in one day at a back twelve tournament or something like So, they don't have times yet, right, they don't. They have eight o'clock game bet Arizona is the last game of the day or whichever game TV you know, TV will set the time five thirty thirty. It's like it's like an eleven o'clock,
one o'clock. Yeah, I bet Arizona actually is the first game of the second session in order to get a good TV time for that, as Arizon Alabama was going to be a game that people at the end of locals and then locals will stay for. Yeah. So um. And actually this is this Hall of Fame series. There's five tournaments. They're calling it the tournament. It's not a tournament. You got just four games in one day. But there's one in Vegas, one in Charlotte, one in San Antonio,
one in Toronto. Within the one up in Phoenix. Uh. Some national news Denver Nuggets Bruce Brown is declining his six point a million player option for twenty twenty three, twenty fourth season, and we'll become a free agent. So so okay, yeah, this is kind of I mean, it's not that was expected, Yeah, because he is probably gonna look for a big payday. But I thought he would come back just because of what he said at the parade and he helped them, you know, he was one of
the main contributors. And I feel like he's kind of found a home in Denver, I thought. But I think that's probably feels he can make them more than six millions. Rights, Yeah, definitely, So I guess it makes sense. Um, these Celtics are currently working on a trade too.
Well. They have finaliz finalizing a trade to require Um, the Wizards Chrits have Porzingis in a three team deal that sends Malcolm brog brogged in to the Clippers and LA would be sending Marcus Morris and a mere coffee and a thirtieth thick to Washington. Um all sides is still working on finalizing the deal. All right, So that's a pretty blackbuster trade. Um, how do you
guys feel about that. You know, I know Porzingis is like a dude, but yeah, but still you know, yeah, I think you know, you're just you're just moving the pieces around as right going over there? Right. Do you think the Celtics at the better end of that or would you say Washington or the Clippers or how do you think I want to think whoever gets Porzingis rights. Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well.
Um from that, So the we alred just talked about this before, but the Florida Gators are headed to the Men's College World Series Finals for the fourth time in program history, which is kind of I mean to me at least, is pretty like wow, it's pretty impressive. Um, and they're playing against LSU. Uh, well, LSU is playing to get in it. Oh, l SE has got the think Tennessee. Uh I leave Tennessee. They're they're probably there playing right now. We're again getting ready to start.
Um, whoever LSU was in doesn't have a loss or they have to lose two times. And I believe it's Tennessee or or is it wake Force and LSU who did Okay, wait, no, it's Wake Force an LSU there was a Okay, I will say that there was an interesting conversation on the radio, and I wan't tell you where I heard it. But if you're an Arizona fan, are you reading four or against j Johnson at LSU? You don't know a lot of people, A lot of not a lot of
people. A couple of people texted me and texted me and said, um, um, I don't help you lose this. I hope you lose this because of how he ended it with Arizona. Did you even come back? I don't think he ever came back. He probably said somebody to get his stuff right. And let me just say this though, you can tell he's a very good court coach because he's done what he's doing and obviously is talented.
L shoot, but you know what, Steve, LSU is one of those places where anybody sure, but if you're good, you get them do you get them far into tournament? It's way farest and LSU and LSU has to beat wake Forest twice. You get into the championship and they should be uh yeah, just getting underway right now, okay? Um. Patrick Mahomes has been nominated for Best Male Athletes, Best NFL Player, and member of
the best team at the twenty twenty three SPS this year. So oh all right, well, and you know what, anything he gets he deserves. So yeah, he's been incredible on and off the field for sure. Um, the Indoor Football League announces they're twenty twenty three Hall of Fame finalists. Um to name the three of them? Uh, Tyler Knight, Uh Xavie Jackson and he was. There's ten nominees and I think I don't know how many there's voting, and I don't know how many get in, okay if
there's a certain number of voting. But Xavie Jackson currently in a coach with with the Sugar Skulls, but he played for Seedar Rapids in Nebraska. He's the all time sack excuse me, the sack leader on the Indoor Football League at eighty one and a half sacks in his career. The next closest has fifty four. Wow, you know, and you know what, nicest guy. I love the guy. We talked to him before every game. We're
not down there on the field. You know, you can see why, you can see why they have a good defense because guys respond to him. He's a really good guy, but possibly getting into the Inter Football League Hall of Fame. You can go to the intero Football League website which is GOIFL dot com, going to the news area, and you can find a place
that you can vote for Xavier Jackson on the Hall of Fame. Okay, Um, Chicago Bulls forward Derek Jones Junior is declining his three point three million player option for the twenty twenty twenty fourth season and entering unintricted free agency. So he's another guy that I was probably looking for more money, but I think he's probably better kind of his daying with the Bulls because I don't know his market. Yeah yeah, if you getting more money doesn't mean being in
a better place exactly. And I mean some of these guys don't have the biggest market. So I forgot like him. I think it's would have been better from He's gonna stay where he's at, um at a decent situation for him and everything. So we'll kind of see where he ends up. But that's why the breaking is I have for today. Okay, all right, if I ask you a question before you say, is that put your thing? No? Just something else? Um, what are you gonna say?
Someone just sent me something. I'll put it here, because he continues, that's why I've been really talking. Send me something that SI dot com wrote a story that it looks like it's gonna have SMU in San Diego stay in the league so they'll stay told but I can't it's not true. I don't think this is I think this is a false report because I looked at the San Diego Union Tribune, nothing and nothing in the side dot com. And you haven't seen on Twitter, so I think it's just a bogus, bogus
um story. And this came out maybe two three hours ago, but you hadn't seen anything. I haven't either, so I think it's not true. So Okay, I just want to if I was to ask you, since twenty thirteen, I don't know, have you seen this this stat no who a number of lottery picks since twenty thirteen? Obviously Duke in Kentucky have a whole a whole bunch. Would you say Kansas has more or fewer than Arizona? Trip question, elsa Arizona has more. They haven't seen four five five
since two thirteen. Okay, Eyton Gordon, Aaron Gordon, Aaron Gordon, uh DeAndre Nick Johnson, No, no, he wasn't. Stanley Johnson, Stanley Johnson, Stanley, I mean math four. Yeah, Kansas has five, Gonzaga has six, but Kentucky fifteen, Duke twelve. Then you go down to Gonzaga six, Kansas five, Arizona five, Indiana four, and f Florida State four. I wouldn't have had those two guys. Florida sty is very talented, but only in like certain you know, certain spots.
I mean, where's Michigan State, where's uh, you know, good players? And yeah, are you sold on Zoa? I asked this question for a reason. Sold on him as a hall of fame guy. He's a hall of fame guy. But just even now, not nice after what I saw that, because that's where I lay a random I random into the because I had the game one and all of a sudden they went to went to the pooper. Yeah, um no, I'm not not anymore right, you
know, I mean, he's because of that, he wasn't that. But then you think, man, what kind of a guy is he really? And was he really? You know? And it was kind of crazy? All right, Okay, so let's let okay, let's use up the rest of his time, Heisman Trophy went Heisman Trophy odds. First of all, Um, we went through those. But in the last eleven, the last thirteen Heisman Trophy winners were quarterbacks. Yeah, who were the two that were
not the last thirteen thirteen? One of those was in twenty twenties, only three years ago to Reggie Bush's twenty tools. Yeah, it's it's after Reggie Bush. And then one of them in twenty fifteen. I'll give you a hint. They both went to the same school running back Texas, no Florida. I'll even tell you what's school. They both went to Alabama. Oh okay, uh, um played at New Yorleans. Um Martin Martin, Um,
are you go ahead and tell me Derrick Henry. Yeah that's twenty fifteen, Yeah, because he carries them all that crazy in for Tennessee and twenty twenty DeVante Smith. Oh okay, wide receiver? Oh yeah yeah yeah, yeah, he was frantastic. Remember because the kid was saying for the kid,
uh, we have on our poster. Uh the first intern, Bobby All the greatest wide receiver every said, turned like Jerry Rice going back, I started going back to Okay of the eleven of the last thirteen, so mark ingram at one in two thousand and nine, another another running back out
of the right. So then after that, so this is the eleven of thirteen, Cam Newton twenty ten, then going twenty eleven, Robert Griffin, the third, Johnny Manzil, Jamis Winston, Marcus Mariota, then Henry Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Joe Burrow, and DeVante Smith, and Bryce Young, Caleb Woods. He'd got to be a quarterback. So that's said. The one, two, four, six, ten, eleven. The top eleven favorites to win the Heisman Trophy this coming year are all
quarterbacks, and some quarterbacks haven't even heard of. A quarterback hasn't even played. Um uh. The incoming Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is listed as a favorite too too. He hasn't even played, because that's the Bennett was the guy, you know the last couple of years. And now this guy who hasn't even played. He's Jesus, he might not even start right, might because he's from Georgia. He's Georgia. Yeah. Um. J. J. McCarthy, who was not impressive in Michigan last year, Um, you got
uh you? Quinn Yours who was struggled at Texas. Quinn Yours is the number three favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this year. Wow. Caleb Williams is the prohibitive favorite to win it, which tells me that he won't because it's hard to win it twice in a row. It's only it's only happened once. And you know, so many things have to go right for us. So we were kids or I was a kid, wasn't I can't remember
that, but I don't remember Keilly Williams. Jordan Travis, the quarterback at Florida San, I'm like, what did he do that puts him as the number two picked to win the Hisman Trophy? And honestly, I think Michael Pennocks at Washington I still believe that he's gonna be that he's got a better shot of winning the Heisman Trophy. Well, the funny thing about it, that's funny to the great thing about it from the pack twelve this year is that it's gonna be fun to go watch games. Yeah, because of the
quarterback situation. There are so many good ones. Yeah, exactly. Um, and the first, the first non quarterback. The highest rank non quarterback is Marvin Harrison Junior, the wide receiver at Ohio State. And then then you got another string of quarterbacks after that, um the Penn State quarterback, Ohio State quarterback who again has yet to play, the new Alabama quarterback who has yet to play. And then you go to Blake Korum, the running
back yet at Michigan. But all these guys who haven't even played Spencer Rattlers in there. I mean, come on, Oh, anyways, you put your money at Cable Williams. I would, I would, I would? Why not? Fifty bucks? One bucks? Yeah? Why not? Yeah? I meant gods, yeah, pretty good. That's the reason. If they were like two to one, what's what's the point. Something can happen though, right? Right? But who else are you gonna go with for the money? Right? I mean the whole rest of them? Like none
of them even sound like Eisman Trophy exactly. How somebody will emerge? Right, somebody have it going to that great year. If I were to pick one of those guys outside of Kayley Williams, I picked Michael Panos. He impressed me more than anybody last year. Uh, you know, not just against Arizona. But you know, every time I saw him play, he was just so damn good, So I wouldn't be surprised. And I can see Washington winning the league next year because of him. Should be it should
be a lot of fun. Interesting, It should be interesting. All right, let's take our break. We're gonna have Erica Barnes to give us a firsthand, uh, a description of what the US often was like. Last week she was talking about all that kind of stuff. Just uh, just what it was like. I mean, I know there's a lot of stuff going on with Live Too and the players and just a lot of I think a lot of tensions. So we'll see what you have to say about that,

This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty and welcome back to all about here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty on Steve Rivera,
he's Jagazos. Now on the phone, we have Erica Barnes from Arizona Athletics. Erica, how are you doing. I'm great? How are you guys? We're doing flying? Thanks for joining us answering. It great to be Erica Barnes traveling the world here there, here to there and at one of the great sporting events over the weekend. How was that at the US
Open? Oh wow? That was that was amazing? And that was really fun for me as a as a you know, former athlete and a mother and a wife to U being from Thousand Oaks, California, And it was Father's the weekend, full disclosure, and my kids were more excited to see their cousins than their dad for that week right. Well, even though Father's Day, that's too funny, that's too funny. So so you took in the US That is that the first time you'd been to a US Open or
have you done some others? No, I went to the US Open back in two thousand and nine when my brother in law, Ricky Barnes Um came in second at the US Open at Best Page Black back in in Long Island. So it brought back a lot of really good memories. Um, he was on the list for UH, one of the leaders for thirty six holds. He had the US Open record for a while for lowest score after three
rounds. So it was pretty special. Brought me a lot of a lot of memories and meat for Andy to be on the bag again at a major and on the back of Charlie Hoffman, a very good friend of his and um former teammate from junior golf college golf, pro golf, and um so you could just see it's just something different and special about a major, And especially if being at LA Country Club, how often does Andy do that?
It's a full time job. So if he's about twenty seven weeks a year, if those FedEx playoffs and other majors are there, then it's add a few more than that. Yeah, well, a lot of traveling all over the place and you and your kids are saying, oh Dad, oh, hike, cousin. That's cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Hey, what's up dad, there's a golf tournament happening. That's nice. Yeah, I didn't know. I didn't know you'd be here. Hey. By the way, we talked a lot about this last couple of days just the crowd.
Jay brought this up. I don't follow it that much, but the crowds were a little bit different compared to previous because they because the tickets weren't there or something. I think that was played up just a little bit. I think because this was a new course, new to everybody. But the LA Country Club members were great. Um as there's some good amount of you you avail um a lot of southern California people, big golf fans. I know a couple of people that flew into for it, So I didn't see
it as much as they were talking about. But I think maybe what captured some things on TV was it's it's a tough course to walk right for fans, and so I think if you saw a little inclines like from five just six, I think that's the time that people go get their beverage and you know, take a little break and then meet them back down at the seventy. Yeah, it's you know, just what you heard. It just sounded like, you know, I went to the one at the Pebble Beach in
twenty nineteen and the crowds were massive. You know, Tiger Woods was playing and trying to follow him was impossible, but still fun, you know, fighting the crowd and stuff like that. So they're just saying that there seemed like there didn't seem to be the big game, total big game atmosphere that you have in a lot of courses, because it was it was a smaller crowd. It's a tight place, I think, you know, it's in the middle of it's right there by Century City. Tough, maybe tough to
get to. I don't know. But it's still the US Open, right, it still had to have a feel to it. Oh, absolutely it was. It was beautiful. I mean the weather was great and the course was was really neat. Um. So yeah, definitely that same kind of magic, that same feeling was there. And then you got to meet up. You talked about the u of a people. I saw a photo of you and JT and Kay Lofton. Who was that and how was that?
Like? Yeah, Kenny Lofton and Jason Terry were there because purely they're big golf fans, sou they just they love golf, and so that was fun to catch up with them. And then we kind of hung together for that for a couple holes and had some mutual friends. Of course while cat mutual friends that um, we all introduced each other too, and so we had a we had a fun wildcat crew there. So did you did you follow Charlie Hoffman the whole time? Did you go you know, see other guys?
What what did you do? So? I did both because I had been earlier in the week, I was at our National Athletic Convention knacked Monday through Wednesday. I flew in through Thursday night. UM, dropped my kids off at my sisters and then I walked on Friday, but he teed off, Charlie teed off about six forty five in the morning. And so Andy was a very nice husband and let he went and did the physio and all his stuff, and let me go walk the courts and gallivant and meet up
with some you of a friends. So I walked for about i'd say, nine holes with Charlie. Very cool, Yeah, very cool. So you were there Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sun, Sunday old forties. No, because you know I had aunt duties too, So I had mom and aunt duties. I couldn't just give my sister the kids the whole time. So I had to go watch an all star softball game for eight and under kids. And you know I was doing all, doing it all? Okay? What what? At Which event? Were the fans better and worse at
the at the US or the softball game? You know some of those parents, when you're it's not your circle, you're you know, you shake your head about they're way too serious for being eight under All Stars. Let me ask you, because you played that eight year old All Stars and I'm sure you did you notice that stuff when weep when you played, because we talked about that, and we had somebody on last week because I said, the
worst thing that happened to kids or parents? That's right, Yes, And I don't think you notice it as as much when when you are young, but you you do notice who's who's taking it too serious and who's having having fun. Yeah. But yeah, those players out on the out of La Country Club, they were they were being serious but definitely having some fun.
Yeah. So you talk talk about this convention you're at, because there was a lot of a lot of news came out of there, a lot of discussion of the uh you know, of the stuff going on with the conferences and realignment and and and that kind of thing. What what's the atmosphere among all the uh you know, all the administrators of all these schools when they're all in one place. Is there are people be you know, whispering on the side. Are they openly talking to stuff? I mean, what kind
of conversation is going on around there? I don't I don't know what you're talking about. We just you know, it's it's a slow june, you know, I don't know what you mean. What wasn't there to talk about. Yes we could. We could fill a whole week for sure. UM. You know, it's always so great to get together with your Division one athletic administrators together and realize that we're all in the same boat, maybe just
different different region, different location, different campus. UM, but a lot of discussion about nammage likeness and how how we're navigating that with UM being going into two years now with with that and the interpretations from the IRS and from the NCAA, and and how we're managing that. UM our PAC twelve colleagues, we were there and UM, they were all committed and lively and UM, no news there, but we're all just rolling in trying to end our
fiscal years strong coming up in about a week. Yeah, we had doctor Robbins here about a week ago, talked about being on the Titanic. It feels like that old lady, it's been eighty four years just waiting since then. I started. Once you get that baby buttoned up, it'll be fine. But we had you know, one of your one of your former colleagues, Jenny Dalton, Jenny Daln Hill, talking about just the name, image and likeness situation. It's not it's not doing what it was supposed to be
doing. You know, you go out, Erica Barnes comes on the campus, she wants to sign some autographs, or she wants to go sit at a at a booth and get paid for doing that. Okay, that's well and fine, you're working to get your your money and signatures. But now it's just different. We're paying these guys or you guys or whoever's paying these guys and women to come, which was not really kind of its intention.
It's just kind of out there. The spirit of the name is this have been positive for a lot of student athletes, and that's what we share and our coaches share the stories um the sensational, extreme stories or what you see in the media often. But when you hear about the stories and how it's benefited some of our student athletes in particular, that you you say, okay, this, you know, this makes sense. This is cool. They get to UM now, you know, not worry about gas or you know,
those these type of things that are reasonable UM expenses. But with that said, yeah, to your point, I mean, the NCAA president Charlie Baker was there and said this talking about do we need to pass the bill or have stronger guidelines, guard rails around n il from a governmental stammer from Congress, in order to try to keep this kind of organized. Yeah, well talking about that, well, that's you know, that's what we're talking about, is that. You know. My first reaction was why would we
want the federal government regulating this? Until uh we talked to doctor Robins and he said, because all the states are coming up with their own laws and they're all different, you need to you know, you need to kind of corral all that I mean is that is that the hope? Yeah, that's the hope we need. We need to be united. UM. It is a free entrance system, but you want to be a line from UM every every state, every conference, UM to be sure we're we're having the same
structure and provided the same guidelines. UM. Because right now there's there's some institutions or some states that are doing more than others, and you know, are they being guinea pigs? Is seeing what happens? Um. So a lot of communication and I think a lot more to come to be built out. We talked about this, I don't know two three weeks ago, we had a mister Geist your national title holder, and then Delaney, and we
talk about this all the time. Uh, here are two kind of almost figures of the university sports department, right, they're the elite people of the elite, And we even ask guys, how's it going in Ili says, oh, that's not for us, that's for the football basketball guys. Um, and we're thinking that's not right, that's not good. But you know, who are we to say anything? And we don't get to decide,
right, and they don't get to decide a lot of times. You know, how do I don't know how if there's a way that you know, the athletes who aren't playing football and basketball, how do they tap into this? Well, I think it's the way. It's a combination, and I think it's part of its marketability and market demand. And you know, Jordan is I on the prize very disciplinement at his at his sport and talent,
and I think there will be opportunity. I think maybe he started a little bit earlier, you know, or if Nil started in earlier in his career, there probably been more opportunities because now is this phase is now I've seen in other sports beyond football and basketball, you're just starting to hear about softball and baseball and women's basketball and gymnasts and um, you're hearing about it more and more, and I think sometimes it's the way they market themselves. Like
you see different um intentional coverage with like the softball College World Series. I just rolled off the ANCA Softball Selection committee after four years and so watching it on TV this year, but you see it on just social media platforms and different insides through the locker room or two with within teammates. You see them trying to market themselves, um, outside of this right, Like now my daughter wants to do the braids, you know the way that she saw on
TV of the from the Women's College World Series or NCA postseason. So some of that stuff I think is you're going to see more and more in more sport. So it's just early for those for this to develop for some of those athletes outside of the major and major sport and they'll be able to do the some things exactly what NIL was supposed to be. Well, sell them, sell themselves to get this money, right right, yes, right, So you're just coming off now you can talk kind of like objectively, Oklahoma,
what the heck is going on? They look like the nineteen ninety four you of ab the softball teams who are just kind of dominated, and then they broke the record the Arizona Health Forever. Yeah, you know that coach Kandrea kind of adjusted his hat and Captain scratched his head every t you know, every time they tribably put that on the TV train, right, But it was a it was a it was a good run. Yeah. I would see the city the state in Oklahoma that they just have rally behind in
their program. Um, just speaking of marketing, they've done a wonderful job at there. But you heard this is the new world now, um, Jordi balls transferring and going to Nebraska and the transfer poles alive and so here we go. I think we might might see some different programs stepping up here in the future. Well, we had idea on yesterday and asked, you know, asked that question, said, is this just the way it's going
to be? You know, you're her roster turned over? You know, I think more than fifty percent, Tommy Lloyd's roster turned over about fifty percent. I mean, is that is that the new reality? And she just said, yeah, that's that's what we're gonna that's what's gonna happen from here on out, and that's just the way it's going to be, and we've got to deal with it. I mean it seems I mean, you guys
didn't sign up for that, did you. I know I'd been using the line like hashtag loyalty is gone, you know, the four years we committed back when I was playing in the nineties, and like you didn't question you're thinking about going anywhere else right now. It's a whole other phase of retention. Yes, for our coaches and our student athletes are thinking, you know, hey, well what other opportunities are there? And um, there's limited
limited consequences and our penalties to doing so. Um. But I'm gonna actually the pendulum might swing back a little bit. Um. I'm waiting to hear about maybe the stories that the quote you know, grass wasn't greener? Um, you know where are there going to be some stories about your regret or I wish I would have stuck with it. I think it's I think in the next two years that we're going to see a little a little leveling with with transferportally in there now. I think that so you see you hit it
on the head. I ran into a couple of people and recently saying from a basketball guys, you know, Looke was tough on them, and he's always tough on everybody coming in. But if you hang on, you're going to be a great basketball player. What you're leaving then these are God I wish I had not left. I wish I had not left. I'm sure that Kendria is the same way too. You show up, it's not going to be easy, but by the time you finish, you're probably be an
All American. You're gonna be very good at what you do. Now it's like, what the hell, I'm just gonna go find a better spot. I think developing players is something key that I think coaches to to retain their their their talent. And you know, these are these are seen athletes that they were certain recruiting them and their families in high school and so then to kind of rerecruit them again. Yeah, um is it you know, is a different strategy. Yeah, yeah, no, it's tough. Well,
thank you very much. I hope you recover from your big week from last week. Thank you. We're we're recovering. But you know, it's on to the next yeah, here we go. done very well for herself. Yeah, you know if I think she's done, yeah, if she wants to be an athletic director somewhere, I'm sure she she well, she was for a while. It was yeah, she was the interim until yeah, for for a period of time. But it'll be uh, you know again somebody who's just always friendly, always at all the events, always busy. She don't you know, you see her and her kids at uh, you know, various stuff, and so yeah, great to see. All right, take our break, well, baby back,

Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio app Just Surgery. I on the Ball to welcome back to on the Volcano, Fox Sports fourteen fifty MS team. He's Jason, twelve minutes left. We got a call. All right, let's take the call. Hi Gabriel, Gabriel, you're on the air. Okay, cool. Um, I have no college football reenlignment news,
Thank god. I want to talk about what's going on in the Atlantic Ocean. That that's mess. We know, what's what's the news? Um? Well, My thoughts is, um, if I had if I had that much of money, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, I wouldn't even think about going going, going to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean and trying to find and trying to observe the Titanic. I'm not su I'm not religious, but that's kind of bad mojo. There's probably looked like some ghosts or
some some some bad mojo. But so and then I think I think that's kind of like natural selection, is that it goes bad. I think that's natural selection. Well, you're certainly um, what's what's the right word, you know, tempting fate to do something like that, right, yeah, you know you really are. Have you guys, Have you guys ever heard
of Tennessee Treadwell. He was the grizzly guy. No, no, so yeah, So Tims Treadwell was the guy who basically goes went to Kodiak Island or and basically he was a grizzly bear guy and basically observed grizzly so in in two thousand and three, Um, he he got mauled mald and Eton by a grizzly bear and he was like, he was like a grizzly conservations and even he was a nut. Well again, you know, you you you push certain buttons and you take your chances. And I these guys obviously
did that. I I mean, I still hope that there's a chance that they can be found, but I think they're running out of time. We got to get about twenty four hours at the most. Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, yeah. You play stupid games. You went stupid prizes. Gabriel, You're you call and tell us that all the time. That's why I don't go to the carnival exactly, all right, Gabriel, thanks so much, man, I appreciate it. Thank you, guys, thank you. You know again. I mean, that's why I don't skydive.
We talked about this. Yes, I don't even get on big roller coasters. I don't. I told you about my experience in Mexico. Right, this is kind of stupid to rebut let's say it anyway. So he went to Rocket Point, right. I don't like getting the water. I just don't. My son and old the son doesn't either. But we were playing I don't know, maybe thirty forty yards into into the water. Yeah, everybody, every kids, all that stuff. So I'm not one of those
guys. We're gonna play with a frisbee blah blah blah. So at the quarter of my eye, I saw this book. See the black thing kind of going at me, coming at me, and I think it's a sting ray and I run out of that water fast. Eddy run so fast that I hit a hit the sand rock and I and I fall, you know, flat on my face, and people were like, what the heck. They went back and you know what it was. It was a It was
a ripped T shirt, ripped a ripped black T shirt. It just kind of floated on the floated on the water there, and I said, oh god, I have my embarrassed, but I am not gonna do that again. And never went back into the water. Well, you know, I mean we go in the water, you know, there all the time.
Now we you know, we've all been hit by jellyfish. My wife, My wife did get stung basting right, there's no way that we went over to the Red Cross, uh a place and they put a shot in her foot, and you know, I think it was you know it was this recent. No, it would have been about twenty years ago. My youngest
daughter was. It was probably year two one of my lines and you know my but now you know why I'll never get lost in the woods, because you don't go in the wood well again, you know, uh, years ago, a bunch of our friends, including John Wilmer, right, John Wilmer, guy named Tom Lieb, a bunch of got Anthony Jamino st Hab Morales was one of those guys. Yeah, what skydiving out of Miranda. They did a skydiving thing altogether? Really And I'm like, are you they
didn't know? They didn't ask me, But had they asked me, I would have said, not only no, but hell no, what would the star have done? They would have had to start a home. Yeah, they would have to start a Hony sports department like all those guys. Uh. I think it was. I think it might have been like a dirty thirty kind of we're all turning thirty kind of thing, let's all go do this. And I'm like, okay, yeah, yeah, so you're gonna
die at thirty, that's that's that's what you're looking for. But yeah, I would never you know, I'm not that guy they said that. I think the joke is what the parachute was like marriage. You know, if it was like fifty fifty, would you would you do it? Yeah? No, I don't think something I've even I'm seriously, I've even stopped driving fast right get off on the freeway. Yeah, I've never done that, but I get what you're saying. I mean, I you know, I'll
five miles over the speed limit. That's you know, I said, my, I said, my, my, uh, cruise control and that. You know, I just don't want to come stopping me. Well yeah, but but even so, you know, I mean, like I'm paying the fine. Well yeah, but there's that. But then there, you know, I just I saw too much stuff. You know, I've seen too much stuff, and uh, you know, I just kind of take it easy on the road. I you know, if I'm gonna go, I'm
gonna go for a good reason. And to be there five minutes earlier this is not a good reason. Yeah, right. But you know skydiving thought of the picture. I did that. You know that big roller coaster around New York, New York. Yeah, I did it one time and that's the last. Well that was it I did. I've done that once or twice. Now that I'm I mean hard issues, I'm never gonna get on
that again. I mean, you know, going up going up that roller coaster on the you know that when you come out of the building and you start to go up. Halfway up, I thought this was a very very big miss, totally totally get. And that was god years ago. I mean it was quite a while. I mean I used to like that stuff. I mean, I'll go on the I'll go on that roller coaster at
Disneyland California Adventure. I'll do that one. But because you know why, because I trust the people at Disneyland that they're that they're don't want to think that thing's not gonna that the thing is not I mean people have died over time at various you know rides, you know, suh at that railroad ride, you know roller coaster that we always do. But you know, I see some of these people that are putting these rides together, some of these
carnivals. I'm like, the Zipper. Have you ever go on the Zipper? You know? I'm like, no, I'm not doing I go on that the Small World right at the two of the Small World. I love Disneyland, but you know, I don't do anything very uh risky. No. I love Space Mount sixty four. I love Space Mount. I'll do that. I'll do that all day sixty four coming up. But that that drop at um the log one, um splash. No, that's it. That's as high. Okay, that's that's I do that. That's that's as
high as I'm gonna go. That's not really, that's as highs I'm gonna go for something like that. Okay, I'm not not doing I don't do those things. But yeah, no, I mean, Gabriel has a good point, you know. And and how do you call it? What do you call it natural selection? Selection? Natural? I've never heard that term. That's a term I thought. I I've used the term thanning that within
it out. Okay, that's that's what the herd. I had never heard that, but I guess I knew what he was talking about then in the herd. When you see you know what you know, certain stuff that that
that people do, you know, you see videos things you know. Sorry, dude, I I you know, very tragic, but you know I kind of had that coming when you did what what you did, right, Well, this is when you see just recently the someone at the at the Grand Canyon who fell four hundred whatever yards or feet from the off the deck of observed. I would never do that. I I love Grand Canyon. I here up see you. I'm staying behind the rail. I gotta go.
Yeah, I'm staying behind the rail. Nothing like that. Oh you know, yeah, I mean no I did. It's just you know, you look, everybody has a different, oh, threshold, threshold for stuff like that, marriage, dating, heights. Ever listen to him on marriage. Don't listen to him anything related to women or marriage. Guy, don't listen to him when I say this, you know, happily happily married for
thirty one years after a divorce. Yeah, while there was that, You know what, not everybody, you know hits a home run on the first at batch, right, right, Yeah, everybody. Everybody goes yard the first time they get to the plate. Some people strike out, but you don't, you know what, you go back up to the plate, welling up here with this story. Here, Hey man, look, I've got a great grandson. Now he's you know, he's awesome, he's we're having
a great time. You've married a saint. That's yeah, and and and I definitely out kicked the coverage, no, yeabt, no doubt about that. You would be a different man. We got three minutes. I don't know what we have going on tomorrow. We'll have some people somebody for two. Tomorrow's Thursday, Right, I've got the I've got the Cultural Series baseball game. Here, horses up to one. Yeah, they're they're an LSU.
It's on the bottom of the second. They're dar good. So it's Florida and this might be one of those years where you have the one seed, the two the top two seeds playing against one of um again, you know who you're rooting for if you're in Arizona and they're not doing they're not they're not doing that. I don't know, we're not doing that. We didn't. We had we had him on our show Cup. Yeah, before he left very by the book, Very didn't laugh, didn't brother book.
That's kind of who he is. I mean, he he was all right. Yeah, and you know he got Arizona to the to the championship game his first year. But you know then he hit the roade lost to Lovista. Yeah. Could someone google my stuff back in my front yard, Somebody pack all this stuff and I'll send somebody to pick it up. Yeah, that's what that's what those things are. The pods. Um, I'm looking
at this, I can there isn't really a new a new update. Um just saying that, you know, if you read the thing that they heard some banging, uh, some banging noises. But they're they're the story that I just read this USA Today story. So they're basically searching in an area about twice the size of Connecticut. So I'm not sure what the chances are of h of this. Man. This is just just doesn't sound good, um Man, I don't know. I don't know. I can't imagine the
desperation. Yeah, down, I don't even want to think about the desperation down there. As the strong people are, people start to run out of box. That's including the one or two people who run the place, right. There's a lot of questions about the place in their birth place. Yeah, there's there's a there's a one guy that's manning the subse stories for people who are like paid the money to go. Yeah. I saw so many
stories. I was so interested this morning because you guys talked about the history and all the intrigue, but I was so many different stories about who they are, how they run the it's just uh the company, how they've been sued YadA YadA, and you know it good equipment. Man. Again, I am certain, I am certain that if I got in there and I saw that they run the thing with a couple better with an Xbox game controller. I'm just getting right out. I'm just getting out and say no,
you know, I keep my two hundred and fifty grand. I'm leaving. Here's the point. If you're in that thing for X amount of time, Yeah, we get no time. At what point do you think, oh no, we're in trouble, like twenty minutes, in a half hour, in a day, will they lost contact? They lost contact like an hour forty five and then you got twenty man right, yeah, right, that's not right. All right, let's let's hit the road. We'll be back tomorrow with some more stuff. Um, good luck to those guys down on
the tit town if you really hope they find him. But we'll see and uh Jay Jay Johnson whatever, yea, all right, we'll be We'll be back tomorrow
