This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jacon Salis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen powered by Nova Insurance Services Ensure your most prized possessions. Katie z R Two SAG and I Heeart Radio Station. By good afternoon, everybody, Welcome to you. I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. He's Jacon's Alice. We have Jason in with us today. Welcome to Wednesday. Another hot day. It's gonna be hot for the rest of the summer. That's not good. I'm golfing at ten forty on
Saturday. Well, we never to be right around one. Oh, we're a smart man, a man for forty bucks. We'll stop it right there. We'll stop right there. We will not ask any questions. A lot of things, just that let's stop there. Like I said, you know, more information he's needed. Okay, everybody what we have a pretty good shot? Ayay? We put something together that sound fun and I just kind
of chingered at the times. Can I say chingered? I don't know that's a word, but I'm not sure that's a word, and it's not a good one. In I messed up the times of the original post for those of you who saw it, we're gonna have George Modes, the owner of Showtime Cards, Um, coming in and we'll talk about some stuff, including Chris and Chris's card. First, I don't know if we wanted him to come in. Yeah, yeah, because he's part of it. He's so
he's got some news I think on Chris's card. George is going to come in at at at the three fifteen segment. Showtime Card's good friend of the show. I always have a lot of fun with them. Had lunch with him today and then at four fifteen Erica Barnes. We had these swapped in our original post on both Facebook and Twitter went in correct them. But George
is the three fifteen. Then Erica Barnes, who was at the US Open this last week and we were talking, uh, you know, the last couple of days about just how not good it was crowd wise, atmosphere wise, and those kinds of things, players complaining about it. She was there, so she'll give us some insight and then we probably maybe talked to her
about some of the stuff going on around the athletic department. She's a senior executive Athletic Director, Executive Senior Athletic Director at Associate Athletic Director at the UFA. She's been one of those people who's been around the department for a long time plates softball at Arizona back in the day. Um, and also a good friend of the show. We've had around a number of times. So
um, pretty decent show. Yeah yeah, yeah, well the show time Cards thing is always fun, right, we always have a good time with George. It's we can get Wednesday. We're winging in on Wednesday. Wait a minute, I thought it was Tuesday. It's what do you do to say it's to Yeah, it's not. It's wing at Wednesday. Yeah, right, and we need you know, speaking of that, we need to get a wings a sponsor so that we can do wing at Wednesday. I know we used to have one. Let me try to truck one down.
Let me try to track one down. Yeah, yeah we can. If you if you're a chicken wing place and we're on in your in your restaurant and you want to you want to be an advertise on our show, let us know, yeah, or promo you on wing at Wednesday. There you go, Yeah, simple, simple, and we'll just stop by and get some wings and give you a taste test. Yeah every Wednesday. Yeah, okay, what's going on out there? Did you see the baseball game?
The baseball game between TCU and Florida. I saw the last play casting game. I saw the very last play. It's been at the video, that last catch has been. It was a three two game. Guy hits the ball to the fence. Florida GA makes a great catch and put Florida into the into the championship series. I watched, I watched it. I was to have a lot of stuff to do, so I was watching. And then then you sit there and watch it the whole game. It's just back
and forth. I can go great plays, YadA, YadA, and then the Florida pulls it out. It's a good game. I don't know what you used you. I was busy. I was working. I had stuff to do. I was out of the office. You know you're in an Oklahoma hat. What is that? It's I have hats. I have cav hats. But oh, why would you have an Oklahoma the same reason I have a New Mexico hat. It's like you're from New Mexico. But yeah, yeah, I have tons of like what what stick what would stick out
that I'd go, what are you? What are you doing? That? The the the the horse horse big horse races? Uh, not the Derby, But that wouldn't surprise because here because you're you know your horse Texas, Texas. Okay, why how did you acquire this hat? And why? A friend of mine gave it to me a while back. It's almost brand new. I rarely wear it. I have an Arkansas hat that I don't wear. It's brand new. A lot of stuff. People when they go
visit places, they bring you hat and bring yeah. Okay, Francisco Romero, if you're listening, you only a hat, hells me a Houston Nationals hat from last year. I would never wear that. Fact were months. If you bring it in here, I'm gonna set a months fire months for those. Francisco, don't give him the hat because I'll set it on fire if it shows up in our students. Just go give him the hat. I don't have to wear here, or when he calls him sick, I'll
wear it. So I have a bunch of hat, a bunch of prep of hats. Yeah, gotta cover this mug man. I know that I mean I know you wear hats the time. I wear hats most of the time, you know, I don't you know, on mornings when I actually wash and comb my hair like today, that's you know. But I've generally got either a Nike golf cap on a Dodger. I've got some. You have a hats. I wanna have to get a Cincinnati Red hat. Now I'm gonna jump on the bed wig they're playing. Really, I don't even
know what two players on that team. Joey Vado was on. It was on Dan Patrick Show, and he was funny as half. It was really good. Almost maybe want to like him, But then I realized, don't, don't he's a Cincinnati We'll have any Redans Red players do. It's the players try to go get the new guy and he had already been snapped up by somebody else. I have no Reds on my team. I don't think I might have a picture. You do that silly, uh, fantasy league
stuff, don't It's it's silly stuff. Yeah, we finally agree on something. You know what, everybody does stuff that other people think as a waste of time. It's fun. Yeah, it's it's something that we you know, it's me be a connection to some some guys that I might not talk to otherwise. We have fun with it. Um it's like it's a conversation thing. And I'm looking at my roster now and I do not have any Reds on my team. I mean, I need to go. No,
what I need to do is I need to go get some giants. I've had a bunch of diamondbacks on my team all season long and they're playing well, so that's not worth But yeah, you're not. You're not doing one. You're not doing one in the last place I'm gonna last My team is although I'm smacking the hell out of the guy that I'm playing this week, so that's okay. But uh, but now the Reds are, you know the Reds are. But I think I saw they've won like they had won.
They won ten in a row the other day. They've been the first time in like twenty years or something like that. Um, yeah, no, they're there, and you know what, they're fun to watch. But I love watching that kid that came up. I know him so well, I can't even think of his name. Kid that just came up, and he's just set the place on fire. People have said that. People have
said that he'll remind you of Eric Davis. There were that's back in your time, remember m and Larkin. Incredibly powerful, really fast hips y um, just aggressive kind of guy. I heard a comparison of him to Eric Davis. So people want to tend to compare to somebody that they remember. Now Davis, that's a good comparison. In the in the eighties and nineties, U was a that guy. Scared the crap on Barry Larkin, those
guys Barry Larkin in those teams. Yeah, he was so good and then he became a Dodger and he was terrible with Yeah, well we have what's today. Uh, there're so many things going on. You know what happened five years ago to day? I think it's five years ago to day. I have to go back to my Facebook for memories, but I think it's
five years ago to day. Guess who was drafted number one in the NBA five years would have been Dere Dere's already been five years, five years could have been seen five years, and now they just want to get through that because I feel like a crap crap pass loss to Buffalo was like two years years ago. You don't want to believe him. Yeah, you know, I was so mad at that team right five years ago to day in that
draft. You remember that they still had Rawley too, he had declared, had Trier who he declared, and Duson who had declared, who had left. You know, he was senior, and obviously those guys whipped and and DeAndre was the number one guy. Five years later, you got one guy in the NBA. They want to trade him. He still making a lot of money though, he's making a ton of money, A ton of money, A ton of money. I bet I bet he. I bet he ends up with the Suns. I bet he. I bet he plays for
them next season. What do you think, Jason, it's a possibility. I mean, I wouldn't don't. I don't think they will keep him because they need depth and I think he's the only piece, the only thing that some kind of depth on that bench. But I mean there's a chance because they also do need size and if they can't find a good trade partner that can also get them size back and make sense to keep them. Should you follow them? You followed the Sons decent. Do you follow him? No?
Not really? So you wouldn't. So how would you describe him? Um? Him as a person's player. Um, I think he's a I'm asking for a reason. So yeah, I think he lacks certain fundamentals and the mentality isn't there. But he has a talent to be a great player if he just had that like Hungerman fire or whatever he wanted to you know. Use So if I talk to you J Jay five and a half years ago, how would you describe DeAndre Aden? Exactly that? Yeah, exactly?
That a guy who could be dom who could be dominant, but isn't. It's like he's dominant when he wants to be, but he doesn't always want to be. It's almost a case. It's almost it's not so much like Brian Williams Doctor the Day because Brian was talented and all that stuff, but he was He played basketball because he was a big dude. It's like he had no choice. It stokes it, Sex did the same thing. He was a big dude, what are you gonna do it? But Ed was softest, No, no, no no. But my point is he
played because he was a big dude. Yeah yeah, And these guys played because they're good. But it's like if they had another act, they would do with something else. Yeah, because you know they do this because it pays well. Yeah, now yeah, I mean your description is it's spot on, its spot on for years ago. Okay, it hasn't changed. Yeah, No, you're right and that and that's the knock. That's he
has. He has the tools, the physical tools, not not not shock dominant, but certainly um pretty not not even a larger on dominant, but just under that. Right. Yeah, his game is more finesse. Even if finesse is the right and it shouldn't be and it powerful dude, right without question. If he had more power and finesse, he can be unbelievable. He's a big dude. I mean those times we saw him flex on the court and somebody snapped a picture him, he thought, who made that?
Had you seen a guy like him here before he got here? Have you seen a guy like him here? No? After he nar Arizona never has ever had a guy like him. You know, we talked about Brian Brian Williams wasn't the physically cut specimen that that um that DeAndre was. If DeAndre had Brian Williams aggressiveness, that Williams show when you want to when you wanted to. Also, I mean, if if you know, if you did that all the time, can you imagine the what a dominating player?
Yeah? And that's and then all the coaches are saying, well, the people are saying, if they find the right coach to get that out of him, Well, if you never have it in you, you're not gonna have it in you. Yeah, no coach can bring get out of you. Know you have it, you don't, right, And if the if the teammates couldn't Chris Paul, who's who said to be his mentor or whatever, couldn't do it, maybe time or two Yeah, but not enough. Yeah, But okay, so you get rid of the rid of him?
What are you do in the middle? Um? I mean, you know, what kind of a guy do you get that's gonna help you more than what DeAndre? Well, wherever you get back won't be as talented as him, but you know that person you get back will be hungrier and more. You know, focus on plane. The big man is dolid basketball that DeAndre isn't. Is there a guy that you have in mind that No? I don't. I don't know enough of the guys. Yeah, I don't have a guy in mind. I have to like look into him more because I
don't know who's available. But there are guys out there that could fit that position more um suitable than DeAndre has done so hasn't done so so far? Yeah, okay, yeah, no, no, it's it's funny. We'll see what We'll talk more about that later. What else is going on today? We have about two in a minute, two and a half minutes before we get to George there. For some reason, for some reason, there's
a whole bunch of chatter about this year's Heisman Trophy winner. And so I want to I want to quiz you, but I don't want to use that dudes in the last two minutes, but I do want to talk of that. It's it's June, right, we need to start talking about the Heisman Trophy. We do we do more in summer. There's a but for some reason there's a bunch of chat. Odds have come out and stuff like that.
And and uh it was in Caleb Williams than the favorite. Yeah he was you like three to two, um, one fifteen, No, No, he's more than that. He's six hundred. Oh really, Yeah, that's pretty good number. You're not gonna get any better than that. Yeah, six hundred, six hundred, and the next guy's twelve hundred. So who's that. Uh, there's two guys. Jordan Travis, who is the quarterback at um at Florida State, and then Quinn you or is the quarterback
at Texas next year. Oh kill, I would put I would put someone on that's six to one. That's pretty good. It's pretty good in fact, But I I want to quit you on a couple of things because okay, if you can come up with this stuff, okay, but it's probably won't. But okay, it'll be fine, It'll be fine conversation. Okay, I want to just go. It's a sixty three thirteen. Uh, we have a George at three fifty sixteen seventeen. Okay, so we got a couple of minutes. Okay, well we gotta go. We gotta leave
in a minute. Anyways, but um, and you know there and you know there's there's a things. Oh there's a really good, a really good big game boomer out there to do. Okay, good. I was wondering if we should have him on. But still as we get close, we just had this one's a little visual, so um, but I think some some Arizona fans will be they'll they'll like it. I think like, well we'll talk about it that one as well. So all right, now let's
go and take a break. George mind is the owner of a showtime cards. Will get Chris in here to talk about that Willie May's card that uh that George was working on getting making some dope for Chris and see what's coming
that. So we will be right back. How are you guys? We're doing well. This is like almost like trying to figure out who Miss America is. It's like we have an unveiling going on here right now with with Chris here in the in the in the Okay, give us the give us the story of what what we're talking about here with with this with
this card. Okay. So yeah, so I went in a two months ago maybe, Yeah, you guys had George in and I've heard him before on the show and I have some older cards and he was talking, so I rushed. I'm like, oh my god, I've got this. Uh fifty fifty two fifty three what was it? Fifty two fifty two bowmen Willie Mays. No, I don't remember how I got it was years ago. I think we were flipping cars, because we flipped cars when we were kids,
and I think I want it from my friend or so. I don't remember how I got it, but it's a fifty two William Mays and it's it's an animated car with a drawing, so it's very old it's not in plush condition. So I brought it in here. George is like, I'll tell you what. Bring it into the shop tomorrow and the next day and maybe well we'll work a deal because he said he was needing it for his set. So I went in to see George that exact card for my set.
I've been building for a decade now and I have and I wanted to leverage that a little bits the emotional need. So I'm like, let's go three thousand dollars here, buddy, right, how important is this CARGI? So I walk in. George was great, Um, he went online, showed me all the pricing guys and said, well, here's what I can do. So I had a choice and he said, you can ship it off to get it graded. Me personally, I have to do it. And it's a little bit of an effort. You gotta wait how much cost?
How much custom? He guess like twenty five or fifty bucks, but it's just like, yeah, it's a thirty dollars. You wait a couple of months and George is like, you can go and do it and you know, do it or put it on eBay where he goes and he showed me the grading, goes, I'll give you money for it right now. So he went down the conditions of the card and what he thought it would be. So it was either going to be a PSA one to two. We were thinking three was out. So a PSA two graded out like fourteen
hundred bucks. So which is one? Two? Three? Which is a better one? You want to hire? Hi? Number three? Ten is a gemmen? Yeah, this is not a gemman. So this is either a one or two. According according to him, it comes back three right now. I'm gonna go jump in the wash um. So he says, I think it's a PSA one. Okay, there he goes, and he gave He gave me the price he showed me. George is very fair when you go in there, like he'll go, hey, here's the deal.
eBay, they're going for fifteen hundred, eighteen hundred. He goes, I'll give you six seventy five for it cash right now, or six to fifty, I believe. And I'm like, you know, it's like on the spot, six to fifty because if it comes back at PSA one, it's only like four hundred dollars, right if it comes back at PSA two. It's like probably fourteen hundred amount of grand I lose about eight hundred dollars, but I get six fifty immediate cat it's shound the deal, and he threw
in two packs. I negotiated two packs of pons like hey, I'm needing a thunder with some money too, and yeah, yeah, it's true. Yeah, you give me immediate cash. And I said, I negotiate two packs of like nice cards that have not yet to open. So I said, throwing these two cards because I want a chance at a what a rookie phene on that maybe maybe I'm sitting on a four thousand dollars part not a
little quick to add to the story. At the same time, another general when it comes to Jackie Robinson nineteen fifty five, Jackie's card that's super clean, really nice, same thing, I worked out a deal with him. I bought the cards. So I bought two two vintage cards at the same time that I was going to send off to PFA Professional Sports Authenticators. Those are the ones that greater car on a scale of one to ten, which I avoided doing lois it's a poor condition and ten being the best condition of
jemmt. I had a little crease in it. It was off centered. I mean, it's a fifty two Bowman. So I took the six fifty plus the forty dollars in cards. Basically he gave me seven hundred dollar value. But the cards have not at Okay, so before you do, they got the cards back. Okay. So before that, what happened to the previous guy? What happened to that guy? You bought that card? What that go for? That card is a big, big dollar card and it
was super clean. So I was hoping to get several between a five and a seven, okay on that card because they're really tough on grades on these vintage You think you have this Jemmy card people, I think they're nines and stuff and they're not. I'm like, you'd be like you to get a seven or six? So you paid how much I did buy that card? I sent them both off. I sent three cards off a Mickey Mantle on nineteen sixty Mickey n Honold that I had bought previously. They all came back
and I have him here in my hand and I'm looking at them. Okay, so wait, wait, what did you do now that Jackie Robinson card looked like a nine to be by the way, so did George's cred. That card was plush and shiny and clean, way better than mine. So how did you come out with that? Wait? Wait, when you paid for the car? When you paid for the Jackie Robinson car? What what? What was the PSA you thought it would be? That was that you paid the amount that you gave him? No, no, not on that
one. I was with Chris so on that one, the Jackie Robins on the jack clean. So he threw out a price. I think it was a little over a thousand dollars for the Jackie Robinson car. I kind of wiggled it down one hundred two hundred bucks just in case, but it's still I still paid in the four digits. So it's over a thousand. Maybe I'm gonna say eleven hundred, twelve hundred bucks. But at the condition, I was thinking there was gonna be a twenty five hundred two or three thousand
dollars. Cards want to come back back really nice. What did the Jackie card come back at? The PSA near mint? PSA seven in this condition, it's a little it's four thousand dollars. George, George, you made you made four thousand on that thousand dollars. Yep, yeah, oh my god, we'll drum roll here on the PSA on Christmas. Well, let me tell you the other grade. The Mickey man Mantle six came back up four. So now we're back to earth. Okay, that came back and
it's stole a nice card and it's Mickey Mantle. He outstalls everybody's kind of one. I wanted you run roll on the ruin ruin ruin my day. I'm ready, all right. We were thinking that's gonna be a one or two. It came back a p S a p R, which is four. I came back a one. Oh it was the one. I think it's a nice one. Yeah, I'm still a little we're both you don't wait a minute. I owe you a steak. I owe you a steak at Texas Roadhouse Steak. Yeah, so forget you give me six fifty.
You throw on two packs of cards, they're fifty bucks. I had seven hundred dollars, but the two packs that get to be open they could be worth more. And the the card, now, this is a poor value of the card. Now, it's about nine hundred dollars, didn't we say nine hundred maybe a thousand on a good day. The card just liquid at nine hundred. Yeah, so three hundred bucks on it, you know. Yeah, And I made six fifty and the day made Chris very well on
it, and he gave me two packs of unopened cards. They get all thousand dollars in the store and you get that waited a little bit and you get a bone in ribby out of it there. Yeah, I'm gonna eat one hundred dollars in stake. Yeah, so you're gonna make four hundred dollars really on me at the end of the day. Still, however, this cart is gonna go into my collection. I actually need it for my stets, so in the meantime I try to get a better condition. By the
meantime, it's got your set. So everybody won, everybody. I feel like this was a successful acquisition because I made six fifteen and I've got two on open packs that God knows what's in there. But yeah, and I made two hundred fifty bucks. Whatever. Let him have, Yeah, and we'll have a stake out of It'll be fun. And his collections come exactly, and that's how it goes. But you see, and the other deal, I actually being goats so I can hit a base hit on this one
and a home run or a grand slam on right. Wow, look at you. Yeah, And I gotta say to for for your listeners, guys for eyes about listeners. Go see George, Like, George is straight up legit man Like. It's not like I've been scammed before, you know, by the snake oil guy. George is not that guy. Well I was. I was over there today, George and I had at a shop, and everybody that came in George. George's on a first base, first name basis with these guys. Okay, tell it. Tell us we're talking of
fair. Tell us about this guy that came in today George and said he had a he had to open a pack with a four thousand dollars card. So he came in and he said, my my wife bought me on Saturday for the Father's Day of that you hot by, my wife bought me a box of this product. It's called Bowman Chrome University. So it has kids. Now with the nail deals, they can have autograph cards. He pulled the number one projected pig in tomorrow's drop one bay Yama from friends. He
pulled his autograph, which is a redemption but it'll he'll sign it. It's an autograph and it's it was a green one number to ninety nine. The card is currently you could sell that redemption card for four thousand bucks on you. So and he bought this. He got this out of your shop, out of our shop? How much was sa me for Father's Day? And I hit and I was like, there a big card. How much was the pack the box of cards was? I think one hundred and forty nine
dollars for a box. But the odds if you still hitting that one Byamba are slim and done and slims out of town, right. But it's a good draft. So here's my question. Those twins Thompson trans Yeah, Scoot project the number two pick. So he But here's the here's my question that I think that we're all probably thinking right now if the car's worth for a grand guy hasn't played announced of basketball. I think he's got bust written all over him. First of all, these guys very rarely pan out. That's
just my opinion. Do you sell the card now before his stock tanks because his stock is going to tank. But if it doesn't, I know that. But his stock will take the first few games once vit you sell it because look, yeah, he's really good in college, really good, played really well in uh NBA Pro League. He got hurt, he was out for the season. They're so thin. Yeah, but wouldn't that wouldn't that be a good time to buy? Level was there? What was the value
of a chet home drink card? I'm keeping the card. I'm keeping you have a chet homegrown? Nobody if I have that card one home? Yeah, when you know, not me, I'm unloading for four grand. No, I'm keeping it, George, What do you do? From a point? However, Steve does have a point. He's a general generational player that they don't come around as often. So if he does come out, if
he's a lebron James, George, George will be coming to you. Remember that car I drove the other day, I'll switch to this car for that car. Yeah, and then you know what I'll say, Remember when you had that once in a generational guy from New Orleans called Zion, when his car was five grand you could have sold. You could probably get that car
for twenty five bucks. Now, George in your recollection. Yeah, but in recent times, who you know a player like who's come along who's then't been in the Victor wiman Yama that that a card of theirs has gone up or down tremendously. What who are some of those guys for the baseball, basketball whatever right now? He's doing it? Cards are insane or through the roof some of his best rookie autographed cards or fifty thousand, one hundred thousands
one on one is that half a million? So Otani's one of those players and they're like, well, I don't know, you know, and he pitches and hits. Nobody's really done that. You know, maybe Babe Ruth, but nobody really you know, he came over and he They drive the market kind of high because they're Asian, but he's really being good. I mean, it's it's insane his cards. Well, but what what fa So let's say he blows his knee out or blows his arm out and his career
is over tomorrow. What happens to us? Tanks? It taks, it does okay, he has it. Yeah, it's still thinks and guys like judged you know, he's it's gonna be hard for him or go back up. He wouldn't really have to play tremendous, but once they go down, it's hard to get back up. But I agree with Stephen Jay, they're kind of under the impression one Bayamba, have you say his name, that
maybe it is a hole because he is whole generational. I'm basing an off of Zion, I'm basing an off a homegrin right, So I'm saying his stock is his highs is gonna get right now before he takes center stage in San Antonio. That's the great part of the hobby is people. Some people are batting that he will and some people are like unloading, like I'm gonna cash out, and then some people are like, I think it's an investment, so one never knows and shards go up and down based on player performance.
Would you buy that guard? Would you buy that card today from the guy that bought the pack? Would you would you buy that from him? If? If? What would the price be to buy it from him? Well, if the price is right, so if I could take it off that twenty two thirty nine hundred in a second, you'd like to do from pun Stars. You know, okay, but you're very good at what you do. Honestly, Jenny, I want to do a show from there because the characters are coming to their show. Oh my god, they are characters.
Yeah, I'd love to have you. Should you guys? Well, like I said, this guy comes in. He's got like a baggy T shirt, baggy shorts, flip flops, and it's holding a four thousand dollars card and I'm like, so I have a question to go get yourself a shirt. I have a question for you, George, And you can answer this honestly or not. As a person ever walked into your store they have this card, you know, it's it's it's gold. But they're like, hey, I got this card at the uh the Swami the other day.
It's his nineteen fifty foot Have you ever had a customer do that? And you're like, time to swoop it, right, I mean, it's business. If this guy's I found this Jackie Robson or whatever they because sometimes I'll ask them what are you looking to get for that card? If they you know, if they're like thousand dollars card and they're like, I just need fifty bucks I'm like, hey, you know, you know, so you know, but usually like on these kind of cards, they kind of have
an idea, they buy the product from us. He watched sports. But sometimes you'll get those people, hey, you know, um, something happened my my, you know, grandfather. Usually it's with the older cars. Yeah, thing, but we got to make sure and they got to sign a piece of paper thing those cards belonging to them and it will protect us as well. But you know, And then we asked him, what are you looking to get him? I just need five hundred dollars and it's a
five thousand dollars collection. Yeah, all right, no problem, Here you go, buddy. We gotta go already. George. Thank you. By the way, I feel good. I owe you. Thank you. So George, you just had justin Kyrie And how was that? Oh that was awesome. I actually I just talked to him right now and we're gonna do a break tonight. He said he's got to do a zoom meeting with the
Spurs because he's gonna play in Pro League Summer Pro League in Vegas. They got the number one pick tomorrow, so gets who they're piky and gets who he might play some minutes. Oh yeah, and the staker on Bayama don't find him and talk to him. Yeah, that was awesome. Congratulations to him. He just said, you know, I needed to be like, hey, I got a zoom tonight. I can't do the break with you George. And then tomorrow he's going with Jude Tambellas's dropt party. Hopefully he
gets tracted. I think he's pre acted late second round, so but he'll be he'll he'll get a chance to break with us maybe this weekend. But it was great. But he came in last Friday and I was wonderful. They're always great kids. You're the connection. Yep, good job, good job, all right, George. Hey, that was fine, George. We'll see you soon. I always appreciate I enjoyed. Thank you. Thanks.
Yeah, the cards be with you, show time cards if uh he's on Broadway a speedway between uh craig Croft and Wilmot north side of the street there, Like I said, I was over there having lunch with him today. Walk through and made me want to go look through my We've got boxes of my you know, my kids old stuff right when they were little kids. You've got see if his Pokemon cards are in uh in a box I knows. Yeah, he's got a whole Pokemon sec Yeah, you need to
do that. I need to go. I need to go find that box. Didn't I hear the other day that you're talking about don't you have cards too? I have some, but I've been through them. There's nothing. Nothing. Really, this is perfect area for you. It's geek world. It's geek world. The guy, like I said, everybody that came in
there and he knew all their names. I was looking at some of those cars and honestly, like I was surprised, like there's some crazy values on some of the Well, this guy that came in, it's like he came to tell George, like like he was coming to tell his dad that he had done something great because he had pulled this Victor Wimba Yama card for four grand. I'm like, did he just say that he opened a box of cards that he bought here for four that has a four thousand dollars card.
Apparently that was the case. Well, it's like George was saying, so the box sets one fifty. Yeah, so like when we were all growing up and generational, but it's charge for forty cents car the top cards with the stick and five cards in it, and the and the stick and the stick of gum. And now they don't you know, you don't. They're not pulling a one ba yamba off of a ten tor pack even so, but four grand, okay, And that was someone was put him in the
spokes of the bite. Yeah. Well those are like the old bit of blues and we played that. We played that game where you're trying to flick them into a hat. Yeah, I did that with Dave Kingman kind of car. All right, let let's go take our break. We'll be back if you guys want to talk some more cards, give us a call. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to the ball. You know Fox Sports sporteen couldie I'm step He's Jake, and I didn't realize. Chris yells a lot screens. He asks many times, Holy that. I guess that was a very rowdy segment.
I guess that's what they're doing country music count guy. So well, that's cool. I guess it was a win win, win win for both sides. So that was good. Yeah. Yeah, you know, um, such an interesting industry. Did you you went and you went to the shop, right, yeah? Did you walk around? Yeah? Did you see a lot of the cool stuff like the photos of kerr And and the guys. Just yeah, just you know some of the stuff around. It's a big shop, you know it is, but a lot of interesting stuff.
Went went over and looked. It was funny because we're talking about I was asking. I was asking George I and I don't probably not proprietary information, said how much of your business is sports stuff? And he said about seventy percent and and and then the funny thing he said, because he's got all these tables set up where they do these card tournaments. Yeah, and he said, you know, he said, it's seventy percent of my business,
but it's only thirty percent of my shop. I need to change that, you know, because you know, because he just got that one side. But those of well you saw the card stuff with the tables, very lucrative for the kid the kids show up and their parents, right, yeah, yeah, big deal. Yeah again, really, you know, and then this whole it's almost like you're dealing in stocks, right, you know.
Exactly he buys this, he buys this card for a thousand exactly hopes, you know, rolls the dice and hopes it's gonna be and then he finds out it's worth like you know, four, and that's crazy, right. No, No, it's it's exactly how it is. Uh. I was gonna say, he's kind of like the middleman, but he's still hoping to hedge hedge sure, and keeping and the stuff for his own I'm I tease him because he keeps a lot of his profits and I say profits by
by. He has cool shoes at the house. His man cave must be very very cool. Would you have the stomach for that? Uh, I mean you're a bit of a gamber. I'm a bit of a gamber. I don't know if i'd have the stomach for that. Yeah, if I was good at like him, yeah, because you know what to give and what not to give. My problem was I have a lot of cool stuff and not want to give it away, not to sell it. You have something you think is really valuable, No, but I have cool stuff Oh,
yeah, it's cool stuff we've talked about. To me, it's cool stuff to us. To me, Yeah, but you don't have anything that you think. No, it could be worth a bunch of money. No, No, because no, because it's that's not what I got it for. Yeah, so it's more I have it. Yeah, and when people come to the house, they see it this cool. But no, I know if I had to give a kid get a kidney, I would sell
it. But you know, I've always wondered what I could get, and I you know, I don't know how you validate anything like that, but you know how, but I could get for the eighty eight basketball, there's the there's the grub right there, right, you're in Tucson, right.
A lot of people have them, yeah, or maybe a lot of people don't, right, But it's eighty eight and a lot of people now are older, and I don't really care the ninety seventeen good however, a lot of people have them, have that, yeah, Yeah, so it's all market value and things like that. I'm sure he has one or two over there, um, but I don't. I wouldn't know we even went to pay. I know what I would pay for it. Not very much, very much, right, Well, in that thing, I mean it's I
mean it's literally literally gathering dust up up in my kid's old room. Yeah, you know, I don't even have a cover on it or anything like, because it means it is what it is to you, right, right right. It's like the Montana jersey you have here. I know it's yours. But what would she get rid of it for? I don't know. I don't think she would exactly, So it means a lot to her,
Yeah, sentimentally, Yeah, my sister's jersey. Yeah, and actually my brother was the one who bought it, and he'd he bought it at an auction and then he just gave it to her, yeah, you know, because he knew that she had to. And there's a gift gift element to it. So you don't want to do that, you have anything that's important really? Yeah. I don't really collect a whole bunch of things, to be honest, and I used to do that. I just don't have crap
everywhere, so yeah, yeah, those days were over. Yeah, everything I buy like it's very like necessity based. So I'm not just buying things because it looks cool. So let me collected right right. And most of the guys, you know, like the damn side of my jerseys and things that they sign them to me, so I keep them and just keep them and have them there and blah blah blah. It is. What is anybody
have something? You can give us a quick call? Yeah, I would love to know somebody's got something really valuable out there, because that would be I'd be interested me to know. One. Do you have it because it's valuable or do you have it because it means something to you? Right right? Most? Yeah? Because or yeah? Or is it or is it
both? You know you're hanging onto it because it has some value to you, but you also know that some day down there or maybe you give it to your kid and they make a fortune off of it or something, who knows. Yeah, and then the kids would clear less, so they don't care. They're they're selling it. They're selling doesn't mean any to me. And you see those shows the Pump Pump, so well, I found this in my mom's closet and she passed away, and yeah, I did you
know? I did. I did an Arizon Daily Star story once on this place called the Thing. It's called the golden goose. And I did this story and people they're they're selling their parents stuff. They're selling it for you know, almost giving it away and sell like their parents would kid, you
know. And you know one things that one things that I saw that that I'm why, you know, if I had if this, if I had this, it belonged to my dad, I guess I would have kept it, but I don't know where I would have put it, but they sold it was it was somebody's father's um military uniform with all the medals on it. Yeah, I wouldn't get rid of that, and I think I would have at least kept the medals. But they just do they like a lot of times they donate this stuff, you know, like do you have or
did your parents have the silver set? Right? Remember the silver you know in the cream and sugar things, and my mom had one of those. I don't know whatever whatever happened to it. But you go into this story and there's a ton of them because you and I and then and then our kids none of them have that right. But it was full of all this stuff and I'm like somebody had they had a painting of somebody, you know, somebody painted their daughter, or the daughter painted the parents or something like
that and then just ended up in there. Yeah, and it's like somebody's painting of a family. A family member painted another family member and then didn't keep it. Well, who's gonna get that, right, it's yours. And then that that was the gist of the whole stories that these aren't these people's memories. They just get rid of the stuff for the take it up space in their garage. The next story is who buys it or who people do? People go collect and they buy that stuff. Hey, that's a
pretty good couple there. Good. Let's get sure Henry does get it, you know, or the buy or they'll see like this artwork and the buy it for the frame, right, No, that's what I do. That's that's what I definitely do because I'm cheap that way, and I put in twenty four so you get the frame and then you punch a hole in the art and away something I did that maybe three or four years ago to an art to a gallery place, and she's this is the number one reason why
we're gonna go out of business. People bringing the frames and we put them together and we don't sell any frames I'm not joking. She said that because frames are kind of they're expensive. They're expensive. This is what we gotta put their stuff together. And it doesn't cost it, you know. Yeah, okay, sorry, I'm sorry, but could you do this for me? But yeah, but the memorabilia stuff, man, that's yeah, it's fascinating to me, but not fascinating enough for me to dive into it at
all. Although, like I said, I am going to go look for see if there's some Pokemon cards hanging around in a box somewhere. To Jay, he does George does this for a living. He's done it for a long time now. And he doesn't go to work. He's going to work. This is what he loves. Party in his in his place where people come in and no work, guys are hanging out and you know and talking stuff and and you know, even his employees were just kind of, you
know, hang out and talk to the customers like they're best friends. And it was very it was a very great atmosphere and short. So Justin, I'm justin. I'm calling you Justin Um you Jason Um. One of the great things about our lives. I think that we've had jobs. I haven't had that many, but he said a few where you go and you absolutely hate the job, but you're there to make some money. You have a family. Dad, I don't think this is work. I don't know,
Jay, if you consider this work. We're here for two three hours whatever it is, and it's not work. We kind of found our niche Yeah, you do other things too that there's work, but it's not really worked, Chris, but the other stuff too, even your little nicknames. And none of what I do is work and mine either. So we're in places now at the age that we're at where it's not work, so we kind of like enjoy coming. But there have been jobs that absolutely went to work
and they suck. I had a suck ass job at the at the city. But guess what they offer insurance in a good period exactly. And man, that was a terrible job. I only lasted two years and it's not fun. I mean, come on, you only have one life to live, right, Yeah, I mean sometimes got to do what you gotta do right right again. I've said this story a number of times on the show. I was go back to you know, my son would say that why do you keep going to that job? Because you hate it. Right,
every day that you come home, you're mad. Right. This is a long time ago, right, so he was. He would have been ten years old. So now the question is do you actually work? He did ask me that. He did ask me a couple of years he said, okay, Dad, my friends asked me, what do you do? Are you retired? Y asked me if I was retired. I said, I'm not retired, Adam. I'm working my ass off. But I said, but I don't have one place that I go to work every day. Right
now, you're calling the shots, a lot of them. I said, I have you know, I have my radio show, I have I have my morning my business tis on writing and editing work, and then I have this morning breakfast club that I that I work with. I said, I have three jobs basically, so I don't have one place. But do not ever tell anybody that your dad's retired, because he is not. He works a lot of hours, you know, but it's all as you say, None of it is stuff that I feel like. Um you know, yeah,
it doesn't feel like work. I'm doing stuff that I like to do, I enjoy doing. I'm having fun doing. So it's easier for me to get up in the morning and do it right, and you get to call your shots on most of those, and it's easier for me to come in here and do this stuff. But you know, do I wish I was making more money at this, Absolutely true, But I'm doing well enough that I'm like, Okay, I'll keep doing this because it's fun. Even
with even with Chris and I'm Jason here. Still you didn't mentioned me. Yeah, you know, I can't. I can't. I can't dump on what they brought him. Yeah, exactly, it's his fault that I'm here. Yeah, okay, no good first half, the first hour, god, first hour. We hope to get some calls later. You had some big game boom. Yeah, it's a big game boomer. We can talk about it. It's it's a little visual, but it's still kind of fun.
We can describe it. And then uh, some news about about some Arizona basketball uh stuff, and just a couple of other things going on. Okay, uh, And then we're gonna have Erica Barnes looking forward to that. She had a pretty good weekend out at the US Open. We'll talk to her about that and some other things about you waste stuff, Okay, cool, all right, cool, okay. And then I know it's early, but I really do want to talk about the Heisman Trophy. Okay,
and you have you have, you're breaking news. Okay, let's take our break top of the hour. We're gonna come back Breaking news with Jason and then Erica Barnes. At about four twenty, well, Gret pushing back on a little that be payed off
