Extreamly live. I mean, iHeart radio. Wat. This is High on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to iyn the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. Now we have Henry with breaking new uh for the first story for former Arizona basketball players including Jason Terry are suing the NCAA over ni use in March Madness highlights. And this included unauthorised use of their name,

image and likeness in March Madness promotion highlights. Did you see that? It came out? Yes, yesterday today A J. Bramlett, aj Bramlett, Jeanie Editcherson, and Jason Stewart. I guess from the ninety seven riears. I don't know what their case would be. Yeah, I mean is that I mean, is that like, Okay, I'm gonna you know, I'm gonna see there is on daily start for putting my picture in the paper. It seems like isn't it property of the n c double A to use

because they Yeah, it was a tournament, it was there. Are they or are they suing? Are they suing the right people? Yeah? I don't I don't know. I read it and I'm thinking, Okay, what are you after? Right? You know, I don't know. We've tried to reach a Brownlett the last few days and not regarding this, but it's interesting because him and Jason were very close obviously like brothers, and then Jeane

Jean we've had him on the show. I just find it kind of strange that, you know, they see their images on the on the promo and they say, what about it? We need to get paid for that. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know, Steve, Yeah, I don't know what you know, what you can you can do there, But again, you know, it's it's that question, right, are they gonna are they now going to want to start getting paid retro to be to come

on our radio show? Yeah? Yeah, no, no, we've talked about that, right, right, yeah, And it's a kind of a we've talked about that, right. So, either you want to come on the show, we're not gonna pay you. We're not gonna pay you, right, but you get the publicity for being on the show. It's a catch twenty two, right, right, we need you and you need us. Yes, Oh god, that's a man, that's a very slippery,

slippery slope. I was trying to think it's a very slippery slope to start doing that because, uh, you know, I know that we're not gonna pay anybody to come on the shot. No we're not. And you know, you know, are they gonna have to start signing something or don't they sign something that says I don't think you know, you play athletics, we

get to use you in promotion. But you didn't think about that twenty seven years ago, right, you just play and and Okay, the CBS tapes, it watches it, blah blah blah, use it re uses it. That was part of the deal, and it I thought it was. It seemed to me that it was I don't know. Okay, Well, I guess we'll find out more. Lebron has a fish. So you re signed with the Lakers on a two year, one hundred four million dollars deal with

the player option for next year and the not trade clause. And BROWNI has also signed his rookie contract, a four year, seven point nine million dollar deal for each year or for total total, so two years to two million a year, Yeah, one hundred and four for two years we were talking about people being unemployed and blah blah blah. We know who's making the money. It's a pro athletes. They are. They continue to to make a lot of money. Yeah, they continue to go ahead and go ahead.

I want to talk about the next one or two that you have. H Pella Larson has officially signed his contract with the Heat. It is a three year deal for five point four million dollars, which is incredible to me. Well, not that much. Did you get the rest of that story posing that story? Uh? Okay? So I was telling Jaya in that story, Uh, that said that that mister Johnson Keyshot was paid a reported four hundred thousand dollars for last year for the nil I almost show off my seat.

I gave you a chance to guess. Yeah, I love all day And you think that's good. I thought if he was making one twenty five, that's pretty damn good. Yeah, four hundred thousand. I wonder if he came here, Yeah, right, San Diego wasn't gonna go j j Okay, he's making four hundred thousand, katle B Love, what's he making? Pela Larson? What's he making? One of these guys? Right, Omar making a million. Indiana reportedly, Jay, you make a lot of

money in your life, and you make it. If you were to make a lot of money to do this, would you pay these kids a million dollars four hundred thousand dollars to come to your school? I want to know who's paying him? Right? Who is it? Four hundred thousand dollars? Yeah? I mean who did the U of A go to and say we need four hundred thousand dollars for Keisha Johnson? And somebody said, okay, yeah, who did that? I don't get it. I don't get it.

And people poop pooh me being a fan of of not being a fan of sports. This continues my down for downward spiral of not being a fan. I having an interesting conversation with my gang for my my Wednesday gang, and you know, a couple are just saying, I don't like any of what's going on here. I do not like any of this. Sure,

And I'm like, what part don't you like? And they said, you know, I don't like just what all this has become that you know that everything's about you know, the the you know, these athletes, they're getting money, they're all these things that he said, I don't mind them. I don't mind them getting the money. But what I what I don't like is what it's doing to everything else. Right, the leagues have fallen apart. We're in the Big twelve. Now, just what what college athletics has

become? And said, you know, how do we get here? I said, we got here because they should have been sharing the money a long time. Sure, sure, right, that's right. If athletes were coming here all right back thirty years ago and they were making an extra ten thousand dollars as a season or whatever, they wouldn't be here demand you know, a million and change. No, and then back then that would have been

a lot of money. But you know, you're right, You're right, and everyone's this is like you say, the wild wid wild wild West. Somebody's making four hundred, someone making five hundred, someone's making two hundred. More power to them, right, dot dot dot where? But right, yeah, where? You would have never guessed four hundred thousand dollars. No, I would have. I would have thought. I wouldn't have thought that

anybody would come up for a guy who we didn't know at all. Right, yeah, okay, yeah, you got to the final four, But who was he to the program? So let me ask where was he going to be for the program? Let me ask both of your cookie I'm sure you have some more, right, but not so you're making your coach making five seven million dollars. Your job is dependent on there, on your on your success, and your success uh not dictates, but your your job is

depending on your suscess. And you need to pay some players four hundred thousand dollars. Are you gonna dip into your own salary to pay these kids? I already know the answer no, exactly exactly, But some of the peep if they, if they, if they were willing to do that, they would be saying, I don't need seven million dollars a year, give me five and put the other two towards some players exactly I wanted to go there

with. And they're not. They're not going to do that, right, right, Brent Venables, right he you know he's going to the SEC he needs more and better players. Yet he he he. I don't know if he demanded it, but he got a four hundred thousand dollars a year raise. You could have bought a nice offensive lineman for that much apparently, right, Yeah, maybe two mediocre or a decent running back or something. So yeah, I I you know, yeah, No, it's it's uh,

it's it's it's god. I I'm not gonna say I'm shocked, but I didn't expect to hear that, right, Yeah, the appelly stuff didn't surprise me. The other stuff did. Arizona Ralph Dalladan will represent Luxembourg in the Olympics in the one hundred meter free size. Oh another an Arizona guy in the Olympic. Cool swim swimming, right swim? Yeah, all right,

awesome, awesome. Saw. The w NBA All Stars were announced last night, including Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, and the All Stars will be playing in a game versus the US Women's Olympic team on July twentieth up in Phoenix. Four. We all started. Yeah, I saw that because Reese was crying about it, that she was happy with and thrilled about it, and Kaitlyn was sw How those two get along on you in the locker room?

Yeah, no, I think that's all. That'll be fine. Look in the end, they both know that what each of them is doing right, keeping the keeping everything, you know, there's twenty thousand people at the game last night and twenty grand Yeah, did you did you see that they've changed the name of the arena in Vegas? Yeah, it's it's not. It wasn't Tea. They didn't call it Team Mobile, oh something else. It's officially, Yeah, it wasn't. It was in the story because they said

the name of the arena. I'm like, who's that? Isn't that Team Mobile arena? They named it something else and I can't remember what it is. Well, I didn't know that, But what does it matter because we're not gonna be going there anymore. That's what you should be sad about about not going to Vegas. I'm really sad about that. I'm I'm very unhappy about that. You're excuse now, Yeah, I'm super unhappy about that. It sucks that that you know that that that that that's over with? Are

you kidding? Me? Very very unhappy, Henry. The last thing I got the Seattle Krack, and I've made Jessica Campbell the first women's assistant coach in NHL history. Yeah, I saw that. So that women are coming in an n b A hockey, baseball. I don't mind that. I don't mind. Okay, I guess I was wrong. I guess I read something wrong. It is still T mobile to Okay, all right, anything else we got? Okay, got brot Yeah? How much is this contract

again? Four years seven point nine million? Though, well, Bronnie, you're talking about Tom how many again? Three years five point four million? And he was picked eleven picks before. Thinks at least ten picks before. Bro must be nice. I told you what my son said to his kid. He said, you're going to be a basketball player. You're not playing soccer. You're not playing baseball, you're not playing football, you're playing back.

Anybody told Gonzales that he's a Hispanic. He you know, you could be about six at the luck with that, you're right, and he's very short right now. Golf, Yeah, golf, play golf, play some golf, get good at get good at the golf. Yeah. You know, I kind of kick myself and not putting more effort into my golf game when I was at a young age, I wasn't gonna be any good. That wasn't gonna be any good. Ok He gonna gotta call save save his caller, How you're in the air and on the ball man I was calling

repetitions. He very eager because there was there was talk about contributing to the show and not getting paid. And there is a saying in Spanish edis or theosis. So for you to pooh pooh players being paid, they be getting paid. That you all know that. You know that Sean Miller did not get fired for paying his players. He got fired because he was an a hole. And you know that. Well for our non speaking you know, my lost my mom and I'm gonna miss these little sayings of you guys.

So give us the translation. And you're saying, although it doesn't translate directly, you are you're acting like it. Yeah right, yeah, right, yeah it Kevin translates differently, but you're right, no, no, no, but like not acting like you like it doesn't translate perfect, but it's like an ignorant thing that it's okay to be ignorant in the stain. But hey, I'm going to New mexicoo this weekend and going to real ranch. It's awesome. New Mexico is awesome. It has mountains, it has water,

it's cool as heck. You know what the worst thing about New Mexico is tell me the drive New Mexicans. Well let me tell you that. I'm like, it's mostly Texans. Now, well, yeah, the liberal ones. Are you going to real Rancho? You said, yeah, okay, so you're not too far from Sertas Pay. Just head up the road a little bit. I want I don't want look at jagged bro like I

have my catalytic converter back. I don't want to you you're talking about because Aranchio, I mean Reorancher, you might have trouble, but not inside of fe you You might be the guy that says, what the hell you doing in here? Get out of this town. But at the same time, with all right, Kayley cart w A B A team, it's beautiful. If you don't see it for what it is, there is heels and babyfaces, this is this is Vince McMahon ask and they're playing off the race card.

And if you don't see it from them all away, like you have an agenda, like really honestly with with with that straight up what it talks about basketball? Right, No, you're right. The Vince mcmanon thing is because it is a right now, it's a novelty, but in a good way. Yeah, say how it is next year right right the way you dug into it, Steve, you have a passionate oh side on it.

So it's very compelling. It's something that we could all talk about. It's Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, but different because there's so many other elements. Right, No, you're right, you're right, you're a smart man, mister fat Mike, Hey, don't put perfume on mey and then something now like no, don't do that. I thought my mic was off, my Michael was off. No, I just I don't. Yeah, thanks for

the call, man. We got to go appreciate it. Boys, like he got some points there, like, no, he did, seriously he did. I mean we you're right, but maybe they're getting paid, but they were't getting paid four hundred grand no, right, you know, maybe getting you know, five thousand, ten thousand, you know, you get him through the season, be able to buy pizza and go to the movies. Sure, exactly, Yeah, maybe did you just weak? Heavy? All right, let's take a break. We're going to come back. Bob

Hi there, Hey Bob, how are you? Did you fall asleep on us? Actually I did in the chair. Yeah, I wish I could do that right now in my chair. You doing not a deep d chair, but by lazy before I share want I figured it as much every guy deserves a lazy boy chair. How are you? How are you feeling? I'm good. I'm

on vacation. That's why I'm falling asleep in my chair. Okay, there you go. We wanted to talk to you real quick about all things going on in Phoenix and Tempe and the like. Did did Did you see the poll yesterday? Ashue picked the finish last in the Big Twelve? Shock? Not a shock. I did see it, and I wasn't really shocked at all, even though I'm not quite as familiar with the Big Twelve as I should be at this time. I'm going to do that during my vacation time

here, but not today. Uh but uh, you know they did. It's not surprised. Basically, I can't imagine. There are too many teams that have the worst level of a uh talent on their roster that they issue. Did didn't he bring in some guys though? Didn't? Didn't he? Or is this is the recruiting he did for next year? I'm not even

sure? I mean, you know, I completely yeah, after we were promised a couple of well last year that they were going to be much improved and all this talent was out there and really they didn't have much and they only the best player they had was Elijah Badger for the last two years that he left, So they just don't have much. Yeah, make kind of makes sense that they're going to be where they're picked. Well, what kind of guy is he? Do you guys like him? I think a lot

of people. I think it's people like him because he's a local product from a Chaparral High school and went to ISU and local kid comes back and it's the job and and so forth. It's very It was difficult to evaluate him as a coach last year because they weren't good, and they also, you

know what shoe talented players they have. Some of them got hurt. In fact, a lot of them got hurt, and you know, they kind of have to use gimmicks to just try to stay in games, and that kind of worked a couple of times against UCLA had worked, but pretty much other than that it didn't. So it's I it's it incomplete in all areas for me. Yeah, that makes sense. How often do you talk about them on your show I'm the school itself. Not much at this time of

the year. Once the season starts, we will, but there's hardly all there's hardly any talk about it during the off season, well in season then maybe daily every other day as long. Well during the season, for sure, it's almost every day there's at least some kind of news update or I listened to all the I listened all the press conference is and yeah, if there's an injury update, even though they don't really ever tell us any injury

updates, just whatever the news of the day might be. But uh, interest in ASU football has declined, uh greatly since like really the second year of the hermit since the COVID year. Wow, there they looked like they were set up to do some major damage before you know, all that, and before COVID and the year before they were really good. They are all the young players, including Jane Daniels obviously, and it looked like that they

were on the right track. Uh. Then between COVID and obviously the illegal recruiting and everything else that's gone on. Uh, you know, they lost scholarships and they're paying for that now. So let me ask you, in your grand scheme of things, give me the rankings of the topics. Is it songs, cardinals, an a issue? Where do they all fall in this line of of of the issue is a issue a distant last everybody,

including the Diamondbacks, So give me the list of top to bottom. I think it also depends on the time of the year, obviously, when the Suns are playing and people have the false hope that they might actually have a chance to win a championship, which I never believed for one minute. You know, they were number one for a while. The Cardinals were awful last year, and everybody knew they were going to be awful. They're going to be I think almost as bad this year, quite frankly, but the people

have been duped into thinking they might be better. They might they're going to be better because it's almost impossible to be worse than they were last year. And the Diamondbacks have been you know, they went to the World Series.

They've been disappointing this year, even though they certainly have had injuries. I think the biggest misconception and Valley Sports since the moment, at least currently, is that everybody seems to forget or not even be aware that teams other than the Diamondbacks in Major League Baseball, including two in their own really three in their own division, even the Dodgers, but especially the Podres and the Giants have had just as many injuries or as key injuries as the Diamondbacks have.

Yeah, okay, all right, going back to the Diamondbacks. You know they I mean they're coming off of, you know, a World Series. I mean, is it. I mean, they're just still not People aren't jumping up and down about them this year. Well, I think they are. I mean, obviously the crowds, you know, they had the residual effect of going to the World Series. You know, the attendance has been

way up. I'm not real sure about the television rankings because the TV contract is kind of you know, obviously another another sticking point here, but uh yeah, they really they were an above average team last year. They barely even got into the playoffs. They were the last seed in the National League. They got hot at the right time. Excuse they got hot at the right time, and you know, they they had some guys that really over

over for formed and this year they haven't been as good. Corwick Carroll excuse me, Corbick Carroll has been the biggest thing. I mean, he hit twenty five home runs last year. He's hit two this year. He's not driving the ball. There are a lot of people, at least in the baseball community that think that he is having some kind He had shoulder surgery two years ago, three years ago, three years ago when he was in the

minor leagues, missed that entire season. Last year he came back, or really to last two years, he came back, and last year he was still a Rookie of the Year eligible even though he played some with the major league level of the year before. And yeah, he was really good last year, especially in the first half of the season before the All Star break, and he had some shoulder same shoulder issues towards a right before the Friday before the All Star break last year, and then he decided, well maybe

they decided, somebody decided, or I'm guessing as a group effort. You know, the All Star Game last year was in Seattle. He is from Seattle. He was not going to miss that game. And when he probably should have sat out for a while, he's like, didn't set out hardly any time. I think he missed one game, and then when they went right into the All Star break and he went to Seattle for that, and when they came back after the All Star break, he missed no time and

was right back in the lineup. So let me say this, Uh, Bob, everyone here in this town listening to the show thinks I'm the mister Debbie Downer. You sound like me, only are You're just stating the facts, Bob. How can we become Downers and you're just telling them the truth? Well that's true. I mean the people don't want to listen to the

facts. I mean they're fans, they're fanatics. You know, there's a you know, that's what fans dance, and some of some of us have to be a reality here for the f Bob, I applaud you because I used that same word. Jay's the fan in the room, and good good for J. But baby J needs a little hit of reality. I've said I get it every I get it every day. Bob. He's he's a grump. He really is. He's a grump. He's a total I've been called far worse than a grumpy. That's good, good, good for you

once again. I mean. He tried to talk a guest yesterday out of going down her career path, but she said she wanted to be being sports journalism and broadcasting and he's like, don't do that. You're not gonna make any money, like shoot her down, dude, Well, money can't buy you love to quote the Beatles from nineteen sixty three. So I'm not exactly living in a placi Will stage here, but I've had a I've had a nice career, really not having really not having to work in my life between

print journalism and radio. So that's good. I like, I like to think way things are gone all right, So, like you mentioned the Cardinals, you think they're going to be bad too. What's what's your prognosis there? Right? So far? I just don't think they've upgraded the roster enough. And plus I think we've had this discussion before, because I've pretty much had this discussion of everybody in the state of Arizona and beyond. I just

don't think Kyler Murray's very good. Yeah, yeah, he's no better now than I shouldn't say he is. You would think somebody has been around for five seasons would have improved far more than this, and he's definitely not done that. Totally agree with you, Totally agree with you, And there's a lot of hope there, but you know, come on, at some point you got to realize the hope's gone. Well, they're not thinking that. I mean, he's still under contract for you know, I honestly I lost

track with his contract. He's around, there's an opt out for somebody after this year. And you know last what I said all last year is the best thing that could have happened to the Cardinals after my Murray came back from the injury is that he was really good, and he was good enough for them to trade him in the off season. But he wasn't very good and he's still here. Yeah. Yeah, Uh, I was gonna ask you

something. Uh oh, let's go back to issue real quick. Uh. Basketball Hurley has taken his lumps down here and and all over the place. But hey, he's got something going maybe possibly with a couple of guys that didn't want to come here that went up there. And he's got one about the recruiting classes. What's going on up there. You have a much better

track of the recruiting people in classes and players than I do. I used to do when I especially when I lived in Las Vegas one hundred years ago, I used to see all these guys play because every you know, all these big tournaments were in Las Vegas in those days. I've lost track of the recruiting world. You just don't have time for all this anymore, for everything, So I kind of, you know, picked U picked and choose my spots. So it sounds like they've done a good job recruiting, But

I fell for this and that. Josh Christopher, yeah, he was going to save their program and he ruined their program. Yeah, yeah, you're right. Personalities, ego stuff like that. Yeah. Yeah, Christopher was the best talent that they've recruited other than James Harden since I've been here since two thousand and two, and just basketball talent wise, Christopher was the best

guy they've had. But he was the most selfish player and quite frankly, not as good as he was supposed to be, even if you take out the selfish part. And they didn't I thought they were like sweet sixteen material that year when I first saw them play. They didn't even make the NCAA tournament that year. Yeah, yeah, no, I hear you. It's a it's I don't know, you just you wonder. And I thought this from the beginning. He just never fit here. It just seems like he's

never fit here. Yeah, I don't know. I've seen you know, many many coaches this year. Rob Evans was their head coach when I first got here, right so, and they wanted to they ran Herb out it here and he was actually the best basketball coach all the guys that I've been here, that they've had basketball coach, and that David Herb was not exactly the most the easiest guy to He wasn't a bad guy. It was just he was not a people person, Let's put it that way. So I've

even said that. I even told him once that he was like the most difficult interview I've ever had in my life in my professional career, trying to do a radio interviewers. After it was he wasn't a bad guy until we finally figured out one time if we just asked him something about basketball and the rules of the game and the way the game is being played and so forth. Yeah, I wish I'd done that like five years before. But from that point on we were fine. But I mean, but he was not

mister personality. And if you're going to be a basketball and the issue basketball coach in this city, uh yeah, certainly because because the Suns, if the Suns are good, which they weren't, for some of those years. But if the Suns are good, ASU basketball takes a back seat by long long distance. Let me ask you, just the Coyotes left the town headed to Salt Lake, does it diminish the thought that the Phoenix is a major league town. I don't think so, because I don't think you know,

I was what we used to carry. Our station used to carry the Coyotes when I first got here, and they actually carried the Coyotes from the time they got here and until it was like two thousand and eight or nine or so. I think it was actually before that, but sometimes the two early two thousands, the first decade of the two thousands, whatever we're supposed to call that decade, that we did not carry them anymore because we were our

station was actually losing money by carrying the hockey team. And that was fifteen years ago, roughly. And I can't imagine. I never understood from the day I got here, or probably even before I got here, how the desert is going to support a hockey team. And I know that Connor McDavid is the greatest player in the world, he's from here. I don't know how that worked, no idea how that happened. But I mean, he's

just a freak. But David, this is not a hockey community. And they've tried, the owners, different buildings, they've tried everything, and it was just never going to work. And you know, it's almost never a topic discussion on my show for ten years unless it was something about them leaving, whether they were leaving or not. And now they thankfully are gone. I think, yeah, okay, well, thanks for being grumpy. Grumpy. There's a difference between grumpy and just telling the truth differ. I'm gonna

go buy I'm gonna go buy a bumper sticker with exactly that. The listeners discretion and figure that out there. That's their problem with the if they think we're grumpy and not telling the truth, and there in denial. Told you that's the my next the next book. Thank you, Bob, Hey, thanks so much. I appreciate it. If you're going to make up you write a book about all this stuff. I'm saying, I need a copy right now to my friend Bob for the title of my book. I get

security dot Net. Streaming live on the iHeartRadio WIP. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteenth fifty. Hey, welcome back to I in the Ball here in Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Steve Rivera, he's Jaginsauce Scott, a guy Henry with us. We got fourteen minutes. We'd appreciate it. If you called us, we'd take the call. Five two, o four, one, six, seventy four or forty. See what's going on in your summer? Yep? Ready for football?

I am? Maybe the callers might be the same. Did I think I know you ring? Yeah? I got six weeks? Maybe No, I think I saw sixty three days or something like that. So it's about nine weeks. Maybe it's listening listen then I think, because it's a nine weeks from this last Saturday to the first Arizona So yes, about eight weeks maybe time seventy eight weeks yep? Okay, yeah, you know, my,

my, you know, we're fired up. I think everybody's looking forward to just getting this thing started, to see what it looks like, and you know, you know, the New Mexico game is gonna come in, and you're gonna want Arizona to beat the hell out of them, or at least be impressive, right, yeah, be impressive, be impressive, and uh, you know it's it's gonna be Look, we're not gonna know how

good they are at that time. At least you know they you know, they come because because look, let's you know, who are we talking about

the other day we were talking with Jake. You know that rich Trod's first year, right, and they barely beat Toledo, you know, and then they had you know, then they're pretty good, got to a bowl game, and you know the first year, yeah, was his first year or second year, I think the first year they played at Toledo or no, they played played Toledo here went into overtime with them, Yeah, twenty four to seventeen. Yeah, was that twenty twelve? Twenty twelve? Yeah,

it went into overtime? Was that? God? Rich? And then they beat the hell out of Oklahoma State fifteen ninety eight. I remember Rita in the in the hallway there before the locker room, and everyone's going and she's, okayn't believe this. Yeah, your second game in we were stunned. Yeah. Plus if I ever call Oklahoma State came out was kicking their asses in the first like in the first quarter, right, and then Arizona just went nuts. Then they beat South Carolina State fifty six zero, and then

they gotta beat forty nine to zero to organ Ouch. Yeah, that one hurts, but you know it was fun, and so you don't you know you're gonna want them to take I look, the thirty and a half points. I don't give a crap if they cover that or not. If they just went comfortably and don't make us think, ugh, I bet you they do. But sure they do cover because New Mexico's not gonna be that good and they're gonna be a good at least a good offense. I think they're

pretty good defense in Arizona. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, they got some players. Yeah with the with their wide sting, they've got a bunch of NFL guys, you know, right, all right, let's take this hi around there and I on the ball. Hey doing skim Jim Jim? What is that? Man? Well, it's summer, yes, but I'm wondering Jonah Hill or Jonah what was his name? Is Jonah Coleman. Yeah, the guy who went to the kid went to Washington. We lost him, and I think that's a big blow right there. Who would we pick

up that would be able to resemble what his performance? I don't know if you you can't. I don't think you can resemble his performance. But the kid from New Mexico who came stayed and then left to South Carolina. Where do you go? Mississippi? And they came back, I think came back. So I think he's got a lot of a lot of experience. Okay, Well, Jonah Coleman, I thought was awesome. I totally agree he

did a lot to balance that had attack Jim. In fact, I think maybe you and I agreed late into the season October November that I thought he was kind of the m v P because he was because he was so consistent, so dependable, all that well, and he was breaking those six seven eight yard runs off tlfle in it, you know, keeping the offense on the field, and it was hard to stop him very much. So yeah, yeah, ok, thanks, ye, all right, thanks for calling

Jim. That was a quick call. But yeah, yeah, no, I mean that's that's going to be important you know, can they if they're going to be able to run the ball. Because as much as we talked about the offense that Arizona you know ran last year, and and and and all that, I mean, the way they threw the ball around their offense was what was pretty damn good. Shouldn't you be expecting some more stuff as progression happens? Speedy Luke. I would like to think Speedy Luke is going

to be a factor this year. And I feel like he's gonna need to be a factor this year. Yeah, uh you know, I I just yeah, he's they got to find ways to get him the ball, get him the all out in the open. He's got to have gotten stronger so that he's not limited to you know, having to get the ball in space to be uh uh uh effective those kinds of things. And he's got to hang on to the ball, so so those kinds of things. Yeah,

I think that that that's going to be important. He's gonna he's gonna have to be, you know, more of a more of a factor than than than just a kid that they give back they give the ball out to, you know, on the open or whatever. He's got to be able to run the ball inside and out. Uh, because his speed is going to be huge. But then they've got they do have guys that you think, you know, hopefully are going to have some uh you know, some ability

to run the ball. I mean, look, there's people who poo point, oh, well he went to New Mexico, how good could he be? Or the other kid he went to San Jose, Stay, how good could he be? Well, you know that levels off exactly exactly. You know those guys, you know what they have. They've got experience, They've played under the lights there, they've been around a little while, right, they're not freshmen, So what's the problem. It's like, it's like I

get that when people say is he Arizona good? Or is UCLA good? When Sean was coming here, Sean Elliot was coming here in the eighty six eighty five years, were people saying is he Arizona good? No? Okay, they were happy to have him exactly right, And guess what he was beyond are Arizona good? And he was just a local kid, right right? And I remember I asked it was a a kid. He was on my interns at Sugar Skulls. And actually, Zach he works here, right.

He was the quarterback at CDO and when when beat by Jon Robinson, you know, when he when he had committed to Texas, I said, is he Texas good? And he just nodded really slowly, Yeah, yeah, he is. And you know they're talking about you know, I saw a thing the other day saying who's going to have the who's going to have the best Uh, who's gonna have the most impact? Who's what second year running back is going to have the most impact? And he was kind of

at the front of the line. And he had a pretty good first year. Yeah. Yeah, and strong, durable, depotable things. Yeah, all those things. No, it's good to good to see for. Yeah. So you know, again, I think those guys are going to be pretty good because I think that experience matters. And when I say experience, I'm talking age. Right, They're not eighteen years old, you know, these guys are twenty twenty one years old. You know, they're they're not

They're not going to be an awe of the aarson the locker room. They're not gonna be an awe of anything. They can say. I can play here and I'm gonna and they're gonna watch one of the things that I'm thinking that's going to be a factor is how comfortable are they in the new system?

And then I realized it's going to be a lot of this old system, because I don't think he changed the whole lot, changing a lot because because you know, what don't break, don't fix what's not broken, right, And he'll kind of go to the well a few you know what they did, Yes, and you have two of the best guys in the country with that Yes, the quarterback in the wide receiver exactly. And and I and I think again, those two guys, and those two guys the unquestioned

leaders of this team. Yeah, right, nobody's nobody's doubting them, you know, because I remember, you know, one of we're always going back to our history, right when I think it was a couple of the players. But I think also Loot said it about the the nineteen eighty eight team. He said, one of the one of the one of the things that made that team so good was that everybody understood who the best players were and

who the leaders of that team were. Right. And you know, when you talk about the Gumbies, right, the Harvey Mason and Judd Buschler and and those guys you thought they understood their role. Mattmuel Bach. They all understood and so that's one of the and that team was so together. Yeah, was because that team everybody knew what they were, you know, what their part was. And I feel like this team might have that with those two guys who say, Okay, those guys and you can throw Jacob Manu

in there. You know those guys are we need to listen to these guys, right, And they've earned that. They've earned that one by their performance, but two by the fact that they held this they committed to this team when they could have gone elsewhere as well. Yeah, you've covered teams. I've covered a lot of teams. The best teams of those when you have the players who know their roles and don't bitch about their playing time, and

it's it's a special time when that happens. It doesn't happen all the time. Right, ninety seven they kind of, you know, just was a piecemeal thing and then they just got win at the right time. Ninety eight was the same team and they got beat at a bad time. Two thousand and one, that was year that Bobby passed away. Loot was out. They're trying to find themselves. They have the talent obviously got to the championships, but they had to find their way after not still dead, and eventually

they had to ross helped with that Luke coming back. Uh, there was a time or two when guys really didn't know the roles because they thought they had deserved a better role. But but no, I mean, when you have Gilbert and you have Luke and you have Laura Jeffers, you you know what you're where you fit right, and it's kind of getting where you fit in and stay there and don't screw it up. Just don't mess it don't

mess it up exactly. And and that's that's the you know, that's the thing that that I think people seem to well, it's it's sort of a hidden piece of all of it. No question. If you don't have the chemistry and you have all the talent, what does it mean? Not a damn thing. And it's like what we see the teams and people are getting compiled. Good, oh, look at the talent on our team. Well

they don't get along. What's the point, what's the point exactly? You know, we're talking about the Warriors two three years with Draymond and Pool and these fights that they have. Yeah, we've talked about that stuff all the time, that you can have the best players, but if you're not together, if you're not all on the same page forgetting well, I'll say this, look at that couple, two good looking people and they couldn't get up. What's the point with their I mean two good people, of course not.

I mean you have to know your roles and happens to us all the time. Okay, yeah, but you say, how does this work? No? No, you just got to know who you are, know who your your your companion is or whatever your teammates are, and just move just just do it. Yeah, yeah, and then and and it's important. And you know, a locker room has to be a place that people want to be. Right, and they're dreading being in the locker room because they don't like this guy, they don't like that guy. Well, that affects

performance. I'm sorry. Well, there's no other way to say that. We saw that, Uh, and I'm gonna throw them off in the bush. We had the Salem was out there, Chris Rogers, Hassan Adams, these guys and some of them didn't like each other, Yeah, because they wanted the ball they wanted and Loot's not that guy. I mean, I like, I tease, I tease. Who held Sean Sean Elliott to sixteen

seventeen points a year Lout? Lout did because it was a team team, right, unless you are Jason Terry in that year that he needed to be

the guy. Yeah, you're not going to score twenty some points a game, No, because yeah not if you have guys they help right, right, and and and you know, and you know Lout for what he was doing, it was important to him that that there not be that one guy, right, the one guy, because of what he was trying to build as the group and those teams, those the teams that were great in his in his his time, were the teams who did that, right, Well,

two thousand and one is exactly. If you had Gilbert on your team, let him go away for forty. But he's not gonna do it because he had Richard, he had he had all these guys who could share the ball and give him the ball when he needed the ball. Yes, you know, yes, no hundred percent. So that to me, that's the

big thing about this team. Is if is if? Because look, you know Norfelfida, McMillan, all these some of these guys, they're making a lot of headlines, you know, preseason All America teams and stuff like that. You'd like to think you're hoping that the other guys on the team are saying, I love this. You know, I'm gonna help them get that because then it'll be my turn when my turn comes up. Sure, And if they're doing that, if that's the kind of team that they have,

this team can be really well. And this is the Sean This is the Sewan thing. And he was perfectly right. If you get to the playoffs and you do this, it's a team thing. You these guys may have gotten you there, but it's a team thing. Everybody benefits when you do really well, everybody benefits. The problem is you're eighteen, nineteen, twenty years old. You don't believe that because you're looking at your statute and saying,

I gotta get mine. Where's I gotta get mine? And we saw that in twenty eighteen, yes, when DeAndre and Trier and Alkins were thinking there's only one I gotta go. I know, we gotta get out of here. But that packed off championship tournament game came out with those guys. I watched it the other night, and I was looking for that right me getting my my, you know, and there were little hints of it, but that was the happy time. Yeah, that's right that they were.

They were winning and stuff like that, and and and and they were all feeling good. But you could see, you know, guys that you know, well, I gotta get mine and then give you guys hope that God his teams team is really good. They're gonna make a run four days later. Good luck, all right, we had a great week. We're out of here for the week. We won't be here tomorrow or Thursday or Friday, so be sure to come back on Monday and we'll be here. Thanks,
