This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jacon Zalis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen powered by Nova Insurance Services Ensure your Most christ Possessions, katz R two SID and i Heeart Radio Station. They're good afternoon, everybody, welcome to I on the Ball here Fox Sports fourteen fifty I'm Steve Rivera, He's jagonzos and then with us today is right? Guy, Jason? Are doing Jason? I'm good. I'm good. Are you guys? All right?
You're nervous if this show goes astray? It's great? Jason? Yeah, Well, Jason, you know what the thing you got going for is you can't do any worse running the boards than I do. If you have comfort in that, yeah, you'll be fine. You'll be fine. What do I know. I don't even touch those big I can't tell these are red blue? Oh the reasons I don't touch him. Good afternoon, everybody. Big day to day. I will know in a couple of hours whether Aaron
want to get some recruit or not. You know what, I hate it. It's a big day because of that, right right, We've talked about that before. I hate the fact that you know there's all these people out there, you know, sitting at the computers waiting to either jump on Tommy or tell us that they change your mind. And Tommy as the greatest recruiter in the history of all man, we're gonna, oh, he did a
great job. But but but but yeah, if if he did, and then for a decision by an eighteen year old kid man, this is upsetting to me. I'm not gonna say I was dreading today's show, but I was dreading for you know, you just said you missed days being a reporter for certain things. This is that time because we have a lot to talk to. Steven Steve, I was gonna call you, Stephen Steve. Even when I was a reporter, I hated these stories. I hated these stories.
Why is uh because the kids? Yeah, no, no, I hate recruiting because we were like adult professionals, college degrees chasing these kids. I totally agree with you and Jason take notes of this. The good thing is most of them tweet their own formation before we were tracking him down. We'll find out via phone and all that I hated it too, no question. And you know what do we don't know until they come here and they
play here. Yeah, you could have how many how many bus have there been or you know, buses maybe too strong a word, but guys who didn't live up to their reputations. Well, one that, you know, the one that I the one that the one that bothers me most about this Racorean thing was the Michael Bates. I had to follow that one, Okay, I mean, I'm chasing him the show. I'm gonna getther, I'm chasing him around town. I ran into his brother, Mario. Mario,
what's Michael? Do you know? And and I'm I'm like parked across the street from their apartment that over by am FI. This is seven times. But Carter Bryant, the the all everything, uh A player out of California's supposed to announce at five o'clock today, and everybody's poised and rated to pounce on what he's gonna do. I'm guessing we'll see it on on the two
four seven Sports. Yeah, we'll broadcast whatever we'll find out. I guess we'll talk about it tomorrow, but you know, we're writing a story about it. Last night, I was out with some guys and be here I want just not breaking news. Jason, So don't worry about it. It's uh pelle going to Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking, oh, okay, I mean it was a blip on the radar, right right, Yeah, it was okay, good Jason Gardner did it. A few others find out.
I mean, the guy's gathering information that tells me the really smart guy says, Okay, I'm gonna go find I'm gonna go through this process. I'm gonna find out what the NBA scouts, NBA people want to know so that I can when I do this next year for reals, that that I know what I'm I know what's gonna happen, what I need to do, because well, what he needs to do is get better. It's uh well duh right, yeah that's good. Yeah, I guess that's basic. Get
better. He didn't have a stellar a year. I mean, come on, if you writed his year, Jason, did you watch enough basketball? The Great Disease Year? Okay? Good? Good? If you don't, don't do it, yeah, I would say he had a seven, seven and a half. Maybe he didn't play well they moved him out of the East. Well he didn't, you know, he didn't feel he didn't look
comfortable. You know as as a starter, like like there was just too much that it was just better for him to come in, you know, get see a flow of the game and then get in and respond to that. And some guys are like that, yeah no. And then he did better in the role that he came off, but he still didn't hit the
shots like he needed to. Uh, they didn't have any paris. He hit some good ones though, ones, you know, okay, okay, six foot eight, he should be doing that, but they needed a guy on the perimeter to hit some shots in addition to whoever else was going to try it. He was not consistent. And isn't that he was not consistent And don't doesn't this team have need that who was consistent? Exactly? I mean Courtney Ramy goes off for you know, for six three pointers in the
game, and then he doesn't get anything. We tell the whole story he does that, you say he's the best guy. You don't see him again, kiss the death bad, don't say, don't let him know that, Hey, Jason's pretty good. Then you're gonna go to Chris Steve So So I had a picture on my fantasy football baseball team. All right, I'd had him all season long and he had been crap, just complete crap.
You got rid of him. I let him go day before yesterday. Yesterday he goes like six innings, four hits, no runs, eight strikeouts. It's like, what the hell, Jose Burials from the from the Blue Jays. How many? How many times you have to get that you have a curse? An exorcist guy? Yeah right, I gotta go see like the rattlesnake guy from Alabama. Remember in the movie Alabama, the guy with the rattles or the guy from the Major League with the bat. Oh yeah,
snoo yeah, one of those guys. Yeah, but he was voodoo. That's different. You know, I'm different from Catholic. I can't go cover all your bases. I can't go we do. I gotta go see a good on that you know. Maybe you know where I need to go. I need to go to uh right there on on uh it's on church right there by the elm Nuto, the little r right there. I need to go light a candle. Go get a candle and put a little vix on it while you read, do some little bigs. That's a home cure for
us. Hispanics vix. Yeah, you get cancer VII, vix and vix and some lemon. Let's see a prayer. Hey, but we haven't been talking about basketball. We'll tell our guests or our listeners who are guests. All right, I've been wanting to get her on for a while, and we finally did um um Tally bonds the one hundred meters high hurdler at Arizona. She has set the school record like three times. I was wondering, Now you know it makes sense. Yeah, so we wanted to get her
on, and she's having a great season. Yeah, they've got a meat coming up at home this weekend. So if you want to videos of her, she's just man, she's just yeah, really good. Yeah, you think she's gonna get smoked. No killing, killing, So we'll have her on at three fifteen and then, uh, if you were if you saw our social media, it's schedule Bruce Pasco for four or fifteen, but he's gonna come on at three thirty five. He's got to get zoned in and
ready for this Carter Bryant announcement. So Bruce will come on at three thirty five and we'll just talk what we've been talking about. It. I mean, he doesn't know, probably anymore more than the rest of us what's gonna happen with this. But I want to find out, Bruce, what does your inbox look like with all this stuff for you know, talking about Tommy and what are the fans saying to you? Because he gets more of that, sure, more of that stuff than we do. The one thing about
it, he's very even killed at least he is on the outside. We should travel together and forever and night used to be kind of like, you know, oh, God puts wrong Steve, so so he's gonna probably be saying, oh, no, it's okay, you know whatever. But yeah, I get a lot of crazy emails you don't want to see. That's why he's lasted so long, right, and he's still he's he doesn't look like he's been He doesn't look like he's got the hard miles that you and
I know, I know he does it right, so he doesn't. Yeah, well he's get them been to stuff. But I think and the coaches you know, don't give him, uh, don't take it easy on him. They don't. Tommy really calls him out a lot. I think it's more like you no, not a bad yeah. Yeah, but I think Bruce is loving what he's doing. Yeah, so it pays the bills in a time when the four now with the newspaper business don't listen to this part of it. In terms of the newspaper business, you know what a newspaper
is, right, Yeah, Fewer people are getting getting it. Yeah. Yeah. Have you have you seen have you seen that picture of the newsroom that Yeah, the old I'm in the background of that, are you. Yeah, the hair you can tell. You can tell by the big helmet hair. It's like nineteen eighty something. It was in the eighties, yeah, because I remember some of those guys and I wasn't. I think I
was in sports at that time. But for some reason, I'm working at a computer in the news area, probably hacking away telling of those big tandem tea they were called VDTs video display terminals, big old things. But the good old working over there. So I'm in the background of that phot don't have to go both nostalgic. You know all those people, uh not even a fraction anymore, Yeah, who aren't there and some who aren't even alive
anymore. Um, But that that that's what the newsroom looked like and it's very cool, even way before they redesigned it with what it was when I left. That look right there, that's what it is. I think most newsrooms looked like that, because remember like all the president I went to the Washington Post news from once and it looked like that. It looked like that, like all the President's men, and uh, you know other newsrooms that you know that you went to, they you know, they would look like
that. The La Times saw the news room at in Fresnow and just people busy working and kind of locked in. You know. It's funny because my wife and I have this thing. She loved, you know, we both work from home. We've both got our home offices at home. She loves it dead silent. I gotta have noise. I don't function well if there's not all this noise like you would have in the news room. Let's a hint to you to be quiet when she's around. We do have a hostile
work environment over there, sometimes kind of interested. Okay, So those those two second half of the second hour, we'll have the lot calls, hopefully because we'll have breaking news from Jason right his first crack at it, and then four fifteen. We'll see what we do and then maybe we'll start getting prepped for the Carter announcement. Right, let's see what happens. Hey man, that that three team two foot put part part wouldn't wouldn't work last night
with the Celtics losing. No, no, I didn't bet anything tonight. I have, yeah, only because but because the numbers are better. What do you have tonight? I just wrote it down. Um, I went with the Warriors. They're underdog, I think. Yeah, Warriors, Bucks who need to win, and Memphis against the Lakers. M Yeah pretty good. Yeah, interesting, what do you think I like it? M money lines all those yeah, money lines are all well three teen money lines got
three three to one. Yeah. I like the numbers all right, yeah, my my, my sketch sketchy when his Warriors. I may have to look at the sketchy when his Warriors. Yeah, still kind of hurt, so that should be yeah, but but but if but if he's not. Warriors can't win a game on the road. They just can't. Yeah they are they they're a plus then right they're plus? Yeah, yeah, that's why that's why that's why they went with it. Okay, not much, you know, twenty bucks. Yeah, so you see, do you see
what's continued to go on? And not surprising with Dion and now the parents and the players are ragging on him, just ragging on him. So I don't know what they thought was gonna happen. Said, I'm bringing my own lug. And that's where the stories began. And you say, well, you know, parents, parents and players are they're out there publicly. Once the door was closed the baby, they can say whatever they want, that's what they Yeah. Wow, no, I haven't seen that optical look look
that. Look that up because you know, I mean, I I get, I mean, look at what did what did the jetfish have right? Something like fifteen? What he said fifteen? But I mean his first year when he came in, I mean, the like fifty percent of the roster. I could I couldn't remember that something like that was a big number. And but you know, there comes a point when there's so many guys leaving, so many people leaving the night, you're thinking it's more than just you
know, well I want to get some new guys in here. It's more about well, let me say this to you, because you've had a number of jobs. I've had a few sins of paper clothes with new and even the paper when new people come in to run the ship. How many times you say I need to get the hell out of here? Will I? Yeah, yeah, so you do that. Not that exactly happened to me.
I said I need to get the hell out of here. Then the next thing they said was you need to get How many time happened at you or anywhere else where the new A d comes in or did you president say you know, we're gonna do things my way. Yeah, and the people are coming and you don't fit. You're not Yeah, you're not there right,
Yeah, No, that that is the way it is. But I mean when when you're talking about you know, I think I saw that there's like twelve scholarship players left from last year from where at Colorado, oh probably football football, where they have eighty five scholarship players, it's like twelve scholarship players left. He does have the number one recruiting class of chancellors coming in, but I don't know if they know what they're in for. You know,
we'll see what they and and he seems good enough. I mean, he's inspiring with all this stuff. That, he says, But who knows what's happening inside the house? Right? No one ever knows when the when when the doors were shut? What the heck's going on? Yeah? Has your dad whipped out the belt and started beating me with it? Or right? You don't know, you don't know? Blink twice if you're safe, if you're not? Yeah you Uh. On the one hand, you know, I want to get Brian Holly, we gotta out. On the other
hand, I'm like, what do our do our listeners care about? What? No? Yes, no, we're interested, But to think about us, we might have to wait a while before the dust is maybe a little busy, right before the book dust settles here, we'll see what happened. Did you see Tom Duddleston uh put it posted something on Twitter today talking about if you are a reporter and you're referring to him as coach Prime, you need to get the hell out of the business. You don't belong in this
business. So he demands that, right. No, Well, yeah, in fact, I think Brian talked about that, right, Coach Prime. Well, it's just it's just Prime or or or Dion or whatever. But I remember the first one of the press. First press conference, he talked about that. Yeah, it's like coach Loot. No, no, really no Lot yeah yeah, and Dick was Dick Dick, Yeah, yeah, everybody Jerry was Jerry. All Right, let's let's hit the road. We're gonna take a break. We'll be back and we'll have Telly Bonds, hurdler
from Arizona who's had even a hell of a year. So let's take our break and we'll be right back. How are you telling I'm good?
Great to hear hear that. And you're having a great year. Yeah, we can say sound it sounds like you're more than good, having an incredible year. Just tell us a little bit about first of all, you know, coming in, uh, did you have a sense that you were, you know, getting gonna get to the the the places that you've gone this year. Yeah. So honestly, this whole year has been pleasant surprise for myself. If you would have asked me a couple of years ago where
I would have been, I would have never guessed it. It's where I am today. It's just been an incredible season. I've been breaking records and it's just been such a good season. So far, and it's just I mean, I'm sad for it to end. I think it's going so well, but yeah, I'm just trying to enjoy it while it lasts. Lest you say, kind of surprised, but you shouldn't be, and as much as you must have worked your butt off to get to this point, because
this just doesn't happen overnight. Yeah, in a way, I'm not surprised, but also it's just like I can't really believe what I'm doing. Of course, it's taken a bunch of hard work, and I haven't always been at the level I am at UM. I started off at a mountain lest school UM, a little lower level UM, and I was never really a standout, and it took me about four years finally breakthrough my shell. I think I'm a late bloomer in a sense. And it's just ever since I've
been at Arizona has been just an amazing experience. I love the coaches here and they've helped me reach my potential. And so with their knowledge and the resources I have at Arizona and my hard work, i think it's just been
like the perfect recipe UM. So I've been able to achieve some great things here, So does something go on, you know, with your training or that kind of gives you a sense that you're you're maybe on the verge of something like this, because I mean, I mean, your body just feel like, Okay, I'm about to be able to do these kinds of things. Or you said you were a little surprised, but not so what you
know, I mean, I don't know. There comes a time when you feel like, okay, I can do this and you know your body is capable of it. When did that happen for you? Yeah, I say at the end of last year is when I really started to like recognize myself as an elite athlete. I have had a couple of injuries in the past, and so my body has been feelings better in the past two years, so that's probably helped a lot. And then I think I know that,
um like, when you have a breakthrough, it it comes frothingficancy. So I've been I ran this like almost the exact same time every time last year and how the later hurdle and so when that happens, you kind of know that of breakthrough is coming. And so it finally came for me last year at the outdoor NCAA Championships and I finally was able to run down and then
the same things happened that year. I've been pretty consistent and I just had a big breakthrough and so I've been able to run that time as well. Again, so I'm hoping for another breakthrough. Sin So, so you mentioned I can't find it, though I don't think it's a surprise. And I use that word again, given that you were the Gatorade what Player of the Year or Athlete of the Year in seventeen, it seems so long ago, right, six years ago? But then, so where did you go originally?
Yeah, so I went to Utah State University for my first fever years and then I heered the transfer portal at the end of my sophomore year and then ended up taking Arizona. I picked Arizona because my older sister actually ran here and he was an athlete for coach Fred Harvey, and so I knew what he was all about. I knew his goals, I knew his coaching style, and and that's something that I really wanted. So I decided to make the decision its answer, and it's honestly, it's one of the best
decisions I've ever made. Okay, so tell you them. This is the dumbest question you'll get all week. Uh, we've been talking to nil and transfer portal. You're you're a product of it. Tell us why are students doing it? And um, why are they? Because they're doing They used to do it all the time, of course, but now it's like every day something's happening. What's the major reasons the major reasons for the transportal? Sorry that what you said? Yeah? And why are so many kids doing
it? Because it because it can. So I'm like everybody's experiences that for like for me, I just think that not every school is for every person. And I don't think you actually figure it out until you get there and you're in the environment. You really get another coaches is in the your teammates, and you know the way that they train and and just sometimes you don't mesh with it and you need to make a change. Um. And so
that's what happened to me. I loved my time cost day, I did, um, But after two years I realized, you know, it was time to move on and find somewhere else that fit me better. And what I wanted out of my track a gill career. So let me ask you this, because that was that was that going into the COVID year or during
the COVID year? When when when did you transfer? Yeah? So iran Um, that was before COVID um and then yeah, so I you thought they ended up not signing my my transfer papers, so I had to sit out an additional year when I transferred UM. And then the following year after that, I had stress fractures, so I had to sit out for medical reasons, and then I finally got to compete for you of a, my first year was last year, so kind of crazy. I've been here for
four years at Arizona, but I've only been competing for two. Yeah, and that's how I'm out in my sixth year right now. There's something like that happening make you put, i don't know, maybe put a little more into into your time. When you you know, you had to sit out
all that time you transferred and you didn't get a chance to compete. You said, Okay, I've got two I've got I'm here four years, but I've only got two years to compete it, you know, just add a little incentive or motivation for you to to you know, work a little harder or whatever that might be. Yeah, one hundred percent. I mean I wish I could have had my full four years here at Arizona, but that's just not how it happened. Um. And after sitting out in two years,
I mean, I'm such a contitor. I've love to compete in race and that's my favorite thing. So to sit on the sidelines for two years was really hard for me. So when it was finally time to get back out there and start running against people, it was just like a fire was lit in me and I was I was just so ready to go. So I think sitting out um for two years has actually benefited me in a way.
Um. I didn't think it was a good thing at the time, but now looking back, I mean, I wouldn't have had it any other way. I'm older, I'm stronger now, and I'm glad to have my six year at this time rather two years ago or you know, my senior year two years ago. So it all worked out for me, all right. So you guys, have you guys have a meet here on Saturday? Um? Are you you know, are you trying to go out and beat your best time every time? Or you're kind of pasting yourself a little bit,
you know, to get ready for pack twelves and for nationals. How does it you know, how does an athlete, an elite athlete like that, like you, you know, prepare for something like that? What you know, how do you compete to make sure that you're ready for when, as you said, you probably want to win a national championship, right, yeah, of course. Um for me, I mean I think because it's
such a short race, it's only one hundred meters. I mean, every time I go out there, I'm trying to run it's possible and is really good at like preparing my body the week before a race so that I have the ability to beat my times. And um, so we just kind of look at it's week by week and decide, you know, should be train hard or should we take this week off and so I can be prepared. But yeah, the main goal is to win that NCDL championship and I'm super
excited and I'm ready to go already. Well, good luck to rush the way. Yeah, thank you telling me congratulations so far? Right, and uh we'll see you know, see how you do at NC doable as thank you so much. Be well, all right, thanks for being with us. I've seen those videos. She's pretty impressive. Pretty impressive. Hey we go, Yeah, she did say a hundred meters isn't that far? And I think it is. I take us a week. I disagree with here.

I on the Ball They come back to winning the About here how Fox Swarts fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, he's Jenkins Austenow. On the phone. We have Bruce Pascoe from The Daily Start. Bruce, how are you pretty good? How are you guys doing fine? Thank you? I'm sure you've already pre written the story. Two stories. Got a couple of men there. That's the way
you gotta be ready, right, right? So is it in the grand scheme of things because we all hear things or whatever? How big is him committing or not committing? Well, I mean there's still two thy twenty four, so I guess you could argue it's not that big a deal. But certainly if you're an Arizona fan, you would like to see some recruiting momentum whatever year we're talking about, because it's been a little bit tough so far
in twenty three. So, you know, and he's he's you know, he's really kind of Carter Bryan's really kind of morphed into a five star player, I think possibly because of COVID and he got hurt his freshman year and nobody really knew how good he was, and then he was kind of looking like a four star guy when Tommy Lloyd offered him about a year ago, and since then he's played better and better, and you know, I think
they're optimistic. Um, but you know, you know, in the nil era, you just never know what's going on and you know what's going to happen or whatever. But so, you know, yeah, I don't know to answer a question that it's a big deal if they get him, and
probably still is a big deal if they don't. Well, I was gonna say, which is it, which is a bigger deal if they don't get him or they do, because with all the you know, with the you know, these two guys that didn't and then that didn't come, and then the chatter that's been going on out there, you know from some you know, unreliable media guys, you not being one of them, who just they said, well, you know, it doesn't look like he can recruit. He's terrible, you know, I mean, so is it what it is?
It gonna be a bigger deal if he doesn't come, That's a great question, And it might actually be slightly bigger if he doesn't only because and I don't mean that to say, well that's an indication they can't recruit, but just as a guy that they were literally the first team to offer him at the high level they've been in on him heavily. He's been you know, the number one target probably in this class in twenty four. They have
a good relationship. You know, everything's clicking, so if it, you know, if it doesn't, if it doesn't happen for some reason, it does make you wonder what is going on. But then again, you know, these are crazy times and anything can happen, and you know, and it's still a year before he would be on campus, and so certainly that
gives Arizona time to recover. Although you know, in this day and age, one of the problems you have when you're recruiting and you lose somebody, as you guys know, is you maybe don't recruit other people at that position, or you don't recruit as many, or you don't recruit as hard. You put it, You put a lot of your eggs in that basket, and if it doesn't happen, then you really got to scramble. And I
think that that's what people are really. I think fearful with the Ryan Mhart situation with him going to a dagger that you know, possibly they had too many eggs thinking that he was coming. I never kind of bought into that that he was coming. For sure, it seemed to be a big thing, you know, but but certainly, you know, you know, because of the hot possibility that he would come and then Kirk Priesta leaving, it seems it seemed like that was a natural thing to happen, and it didn't
happen. So that, uh, you know, combined with the fact there's been a lot of quietness lately, you know, makes people who follow recruiting wonder what is going on? You know, so you should should rout you cover day today. One of the things we've been doing almost day to day for the last week is complaining about the fans that have been complaining. You know, we're complaining about the complaining. I'm sure you get it. You get the emails, you get some calls. What are you hearing from just
the general public? Well, you know, I mean, it's it's hard because if you if you go on the message board or Twitter, you see a very extreme version of it. And you know, honestly, I think there's a lot of fans out there who don't really care, you know, and aren't too worried about it. They're just going to come out and see
who's there at the Red blue game and root for them. Then you know, like I think that the recruiting is like it strikes me it's kind of like hockey or some other kind of really niche things where not that in any people followed, but the people who do are super passionate about it. And we know that from our analytics. We know when we write about recruiting, people hit it, they love it. But I don't, you know, I don't think that that's everybody. I just think the people who do love
it hit it a lot because they want to know everything about recruiting. So it's just it's just a really really weird deal. And you know, um, you know, and I think maybe maybe some of this is because they lost to Princeton and you know, it's just been a it's just been a really empty spring. If you're an Arizona fan and you're just you're just hoping for some good news and and and then you hear some bad news on the recruiting trail, it just it just comes together. I mean, you know,
somebody's made. I think the point has been made. The Yukon's losing guys listening right well, you know, I don't think their fans are maybe quite as upset because they just want so it's um, you know, it's it's a tough deal, but it's it's it's it's recruiting. I'll tell you what. It's interesting, there's no question about that. Well that's a really good point, and neither Steve Right thought of. So that makes you way smarter than either one of us. But you know, you know, but
you're right. You know, the feeling that people have about Arizona basketball right now has mostly to do with what happened with Princeton. So people are feeling bad and then, like you said, if they're not getting good news, then they feel worse. And it's like, but I've just you know, I've been railing on on on fans. We're just saying just you know, well, yeah he's won sixty one games, but what has he done for me lately? You know, It's like, come on, I mean,
yeah, well it drives me crazy. It is. It is tough, you know. I think I think that, you know, the jury is still out in some sense on Tommy Lloyd as a recruiter. I think he's brought in some good guys. I think, you know, he's just so different than Sean Miller, and that he's very selective and who he goes after. Now he's getting criticized for not going after enough guys, right maybe you know, maybe he he's not hitting. You know, if you're going to
be selective, you better hit a high percentage, right. So I think that's uh, you know, some of the criticism. But you know, he's landed on his feet the last couple of years and you know, into June, and I suspect that will happen this year, you know. And I think part of the reason he's selected is he's looking at fit really and everybody talks about that, but I think it's really a big thing for him, especially with the system they play. And you know, so he waited
a while to get Ramy and Henderson and those guys. You know, maybe weren't the best transfers out there, but they really fit. You know, they were good guys that fit that every you know, a lot of times you get those grad transfers in with their agendas and they want their their points and their shots so they can get to the NBA or whatever, and they
weren't really like that. So I think he's looking for that, whereas with Miller, Miller went after every five star out there, basically, you know, and got a lot of them, and a lot of them didn't fit. And sometimes he mashed him together because he's a really good communicator and he's strong with him. But sometimes it didn't work. And we all saw that. We you know, number of times where Roley Awkins and Alonso Tree were glaring at each other on the court, you know, and stuff like that.
Those teams weren't always at together, and so you know, that's a trade off, like what what do you what do you want? Do you want talented may or may not work? Or or do you want you you know? Or as you're Tommy Lloyd, do you want? Do you want a cohesive team? But it may be tough to pull together exactly what you want. Is there anything? Is there any scenario where Tabellas would come back? Um, the more I hear about it, I don't think so. But you know, I think I don't you know, he's he's tough.
Three. I haven't had a chance to talk to him. I don't know, but it just sounds like he's leaving. I think, you know, most guys of his level figure after two or three years that's enough. And they're not going to improve themselves enough to get higher in the draft, so
you might as well go in and get what you can get. And I also think just because the floor nowadays for a guy like him is probably a two way contract, which is half a million dollars a year, why would he come back to UVA if he can make half half a million dollars a
year? Um, you know, I mean, I guess the only scenario would be is if it looks like he couldn't even get that, if if he tests really poorly, and at the same time, you know, he's maybe putting up some feelers that you know, he wouldn't make that much in Europe and or somebody here, you know, maybe maybe there's an nil situation from here where it's like, Okay, it's not so bad, but I
don't, you know, it's hard to see it happening. But um, you know, you know from ten or fifteen, certainly twenty years ago, you can see it he would definitely come back or you know almost you know, it's just it's just so different now. Bruce, you gotta go, You gotta go, Bruce, take care. Thank you very much. Man appreciated Bruce taks about thanks for having okay cool. He made some great points
about the rabid fans about the recruiting. He's expect exactly the ones that are complaining are there are probably aren't that many, but it's really damn squeaky. They're really damn loud. They're loud enough to piss me on. Yeah. No, no, I'm with you. I'm with you that because you're right. I mean, he's right. Um, there was something that I wanted to ask him about. I'll ask him on the side where and I because he just said a story. Did you read a story about the nil and
the old stuff that he wrote about? What that meant? What he came. I'll have to read it because obviously we know that's important. If not, in my mind, it's not number one thing. Yeah, I mean I think it's. I mean, while for the most part, players are going to go play where they like the coach, If they hate the coach, they're not gonna go. So I think that will always be factor number one. Probably moving up to factor number two is Okay, I love the
coach and how much money are you are sure you're gonna give him? Sure? Now? And then then it's like Okay, you know, the players, the facility, the fans. Yeah, I'll fall kind of in a bundle after that. Once you're getting paid, who what does that matter? Right? So no, it's funny you say that how much are gonna get paid? Blue chips? I mean this has been the long standing and Sean got caught for it, right, Okay, I'm gonna go there. What am I gonna we are gonna pay? Are you gonna pay me? Now?
Two years into it? I want you're gonna pay me? Yea? And it's normal and then it's yeah, norms part of the conversation anymore, always always, you know, I just again with my Wednesday lunch group, and you know, we were talking about about you know, the kid from Forton, he decided to go to Alabama. Didn't even come and check out Arizona. You got to Alabama. They handed him a bag of cash and he said, okay, I'll be back. How many people in that group,
there's like eight or ten. So I don't know any of them. I don't know any of them. I don't want to know any but I probably do, but I don't want to know of the ten. How many help? How many help are you of a. I'm gonna say probably all of them really is well in a in a way, tickets, donations, Yeah, we're all you know, we're all real actual we actually so so they're we're invested, they're invested. Okay, so the whole that's what Arizona
needs, right that. Yeah, well we're yeah, we're a little unusual. And then well yeah yeah, but no, well, in fact, I had to collect I had to collect our tailgate paths money from those guys. I thought you were gonna say half, no, but that's for every
one of them. Everyone, every one of them is first of all, everyone of them the season football, football season, take it older then you know, some are basketball season, take it older, some are women's basketball, some are softball, uh, baseball, you know that with these guys are all all supporters. Yeah. So I'm not on campus as much as I used to be. I don't think you're either, Jason, you're on campus, right, Yeah? They driving rides, they drive can you know
do you know do you know that they're doing? Okay, I think they are. Yeah, have you seen that they are? I haven't seen you have not? Okay, Okay, I'm wondering, you know what I'm saying, yeah, it's even before they got here. You see the kids wearing the diamond ravings. And well, Chris Mills drove up in a in a in was it a Kentucky? Did them? Well? Yeah, what did he have? Yeah he had he had a car. He was a car yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, again we talked about Lewis
Holmes showing up in a brand new Hummer. We talk about you know, different guys. And then Steve Kerr had a bike, yeah, and he was like it was a crappy bike on top of that ugly convertible. Is convertible that all that? So no, it's uh, he's a changing times man. Yeah, they're changing times. They definitely are. I'm gonna ask them for a loan. Yeah, you know, I mean well, you know, and again be John Robinson had a Lamborghini. Yeah, come up,
we were talking about that today. It's just how crazy that well, Arizona needs the fans don't listen here, the fans that aren't listening to whatever, they need to help put that nil. Yeah, we yeah, they do. And uh it's you know, the time, the conversation that we had yesterday, and you use the words donor fatigue don't know. Are are are the fans? You're gonna get that? And when at a time when that's the last thing you can be having is is donor fatigue? You need
you need more donors. You know, you need all the ones you already have, but you gotta get some new ones who understand that. You know, sitting on the sideline and hoping your team's gonna get better, right, is not gonna work anymore. You've got to be a part of this if you want it to be what you want it to be. It's like going to a picnic of family picnic and you bring um, you bring a pie. Yeah, you're the guy, and your cousin doesn't bring anything. Yeah,
and you're saying, what the hell? Yeah, you're part of this family. You know, even if you're just gonna bring a bag of chips, you're part. Bring the chip chips, Bring the chip right. You can't be complained about how the chicken taste if you don't bring it in right, or that that whole thing. You know, you know, don't go to party without a bottle of wine in your hand or something you know you
gotta have. You gotta have something, And I don't know how how you do that because you you know, for the most part, you haven't had to, right, No, you have, other people have taken care of it for you. I've been on Facebook today, but I haven't seen any basketball stuff, maybe purposely because I got I'm getting Facebook fatigue, complaining because I feel like, God, I need to post. Well. I think the guy. I think the guy that we that I quoted yesterday when we
talked about I think he took that down. I think because I try to go back and find I can't find it. But maybe people are getting smarter or or he got his answer. How does this happen? Well, there's a lot of reasons why he mentioned a few, but you didn't mention money.
Yeah, exactly, and again as we as we said, you know that that's the factor now, I mean, that's that's the thing that's making the difference to these guys because you know, look, I mean, you know, some of these guys are never gonna play pro you know, pro ball, so they want to get paid. Now. I'm gonna take what I can get now, make make some money while I can, and then you know, and if I get out, I got to go get a real job. Fine, but at least I got a good start, right,
and that's that's what the stake for these guys. Sure, sure, um, it's funny we we had coach and l yesterday hasn't affected her yet, but she does see it. Kemmy, you know at at the golf level to every level at some point, well it just came across. Two more Colorado players have gone into the transfer portal, one uh an offensive lineman who started twenty two games, and another one who had transferred from Michigan. Now he decided I don't want to be here, according to Max Olsen,
who I don't know who that is. No, anyway, he said, Colorado is down to thirteen scholarship players who are on the team last season. Yeah, thirteen. If you're not happy in a place, and I talked to you about what if a new guy comes in and you want to get out because you know it's not comfortable for you, you can find another spot, right, you just you just get that's what we do. We find
other spots. What's the divorce? Gonna be a lot of guys. There's gonna be a lot of Colorado guys playing in the Pac twelve, not for Colorado, right, What's the divorce rate right now, what's seventy percent? Welcome to the divorce right now, because they're jumping ship and no, no and Grant Ganelle. Right, yeah, he's already on number three or three to four. He's on his fourth. Come on the fourth marriage. Yeah
here Memphis, North Texas. Fourth marriage. Now he jumped track. He jumped into the portal again or the kids, Lasco Jamal Baker, Right, he's going to his fifth school at some point. We're looking for fifth at some point, j Loo, you might be the problem. You know what. I don't believe this. Uh. Steve Sarkasian is saying that um uh arch Man is getting zero nil right now, Well, he spent the half a million. He's like, we were looking, we're talking about we're talking
about the valuation of stuff. His value is like four million, right like he I saw that story, but I didn't I didn't click on it. Yeah. So his his grandfather, so Archie says that they he's not signing any nil deals. They want to wait until becomes a starter whatever that means. Its it, says Sarcasian said, Archie his grandfather will not let him take any nil money until he starts who's the bustle me my grandfather. But
well, you know what he can afford to do. Yeah, so I don't know, but you know he didn't not get good reviews and in spring practice oh no, yeah, okay, you know he had he had a bad he had a bad spring game. Um, he won't be the starter. Quinn yours is currently the starter and will as of now. You know, it looks like he'll be the starter in the fall. But he's still seventeen years old. Again, he's the Coylin Boswell thing. He's seventeen years
old. So, um, he's got a waste to go. But you know a guy like that, I mean, you know he doesn't you say, well, if the money's there, you're gonna take it. But he doesn't need it. He's not a tech. He didn't go to Texas for n I M sure he went to Texas because that's where he wants to play. Sure, so it'd be interesting. But I man, Steve, there's so much to this anymore, And I don't know if I'm having a lot of a lot of I'm with eggs in that basket and you can pick any
one and they're gonna be a factor. I don't know if I'm having fun specific Well, I'm impressed with your ten friends because well you wouldn't you they're they're with you guys on football, so you can understand. Well, yeah, I mean you know they're you're if you're not, if you're not going to football games, you're not hanging out with us. Yeah, right, so they're they're I mean, that's why, that's why this that was a bad question. We call our group section eighteen. That's a section we used
to sit in. So I mean we still call ourselves that even though we didn't. We don't sit in it anymore. But uh, you know we've uh that's where all these guys have come from, and we're all we're all friends through that. That was a bad question about what me not knowing that they're all it allowed me to brag on them. Many allowed me to brag on them because you know, we are good and you know, and they do other stuff. You know, they go to the packball basketball tournament,
we go to the bowl games together. Yeah that's so. Yeah, you say they're invested. More people need to be that way. Um, not the not the ones that I told you about Vegas and the and the debauchery that goes on, well they have they do that too. There's just a bed by ten. Wow. That's yeah, that part has changed. That part has definitely changed. So all right, let's go and take our break.
We're gonna come back, uh Jason with the debut of his breaking news, So we'll see how Jason does, and then we'll take your calls all in the second hour five two or four, one, six, seventy four, forty. We don't have any guests the rest of the way. If you were coming on and thinking you're gonna hear Bruce Pasco at four or fifteen, he's already was on, but you'll be able to catch him on the podcast. So stick around and we'll have breaking news at the top of the yar. We'll be right back
