Breaking down the Hall the exes at OHS. It's Steve Rivera and Jacin Salis. This is I on the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to an the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jacobs Aus. Now we have breaking news by Jay. This is I on the Ball, breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen to fifty. Okay, I did a little more reading up on this because we talked about
this at the top of the at the Top show. But PGA Tour players are going to be getting an equity stake in a new for profit entity called PGA Tour Enterprises, which I'm presuming is where a lot of the money is gonna get poured into from other golf tournaments. It's a way for these players to remain loyal to the PGA Tour. So players like Tiger Woods, Rory McElroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan spe All, you know, they don't jump to the Live Golf Tour. You know, there's there's for a wobb and
something in the works to try to merge the two tours together. It's it's still not happening, but it was reported today that Tiger Woods is getting one hundred million dollars. One hundred million dollars stake in this worry McRoy about fifty million dollars, and then Jordan Speeth and Justin Thomas thirty million dollars each, and about thirty six players total will be sharing this money in the first year,
and then seven a total of seven hundred and fifty million dollars. And then after that another one hundred million dollars a year will be awarded two more players. So all these players are getting paid to stay with the PGA Tour and not jump over to live. Don't you think eventually I don't pay attention to this, You do that the two leagues will emerge. Yeah, they
have to. Well they don't have to. You know. It's funny, Steve, because you know we had the first main we had the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and I I didn't pay attention at all to the live players, And then I noticed that the reason I didn't pay attention to him is because none of them were in contention. The only one that was even close to was bryceon to Shamba, who blew up on Saturday, but
brooks Kopka, Dustin Johnson, all those guys. None of those guys were ever in contention at the Master. And my theory on that was they're playing in a tournament and a tour where they play fifty four holes. It's shotguns starts, so they play at the same time the day, you know, every day. You know, it's very relaxed. They're playing shorts, you know, and it's a it's a it's a smaller group of guys. You
feel like the competitive their competitive edge is gone. Right. They're not They're not out there grinding against this one player who on this one weekend plays out of his butt and wins the tournament. So do you think there's a one off or it'll continue. No, I think I think that's been a progression because now these guys are what I take in most basically the second or third
year of the Live Tour. I think that the competitive edge that you have to have to win on the PGA Tour doesn't exist in the Live Golf Tour. They're all friends, they're all buddies, they travel together, all these things, and they play one less day. I think you know they're they're they're there. They've lost that edge that comes with the grind of the PGA. So so let me be cause I don't follow it, Like I said, do they so when they play on weekends, whenever weekends they play,
do they play for a prize? Yeah? So they still get paid X amount of money? Right, and then they get the prize, right, And they're getting money no matter what, They're getting money right, right, and they and they have this this team structure and all this kind of stuff. It's just different from what these guys who are on the PGA tour are doing. They make a living. That's how they make a living, right
right. It's it's pressure on them. You gotta go, you gotta go finishing, you know, the top of the standings to get some money. These guys are getting their money no matter what. So you know what, you know, how hard are they working? You know, it wasn't a shock to me that they didn't contend to come as guven. Now you're saying that, do you think there'll be a merger? Merger one or it'll fold eventually. It'll only fold if the Saudi Arabians don't care and let it fold,
which is it's entirely possible. They may just saying what we're gonna spend our money, right, you know, horses order. Yeah, and then the guys are all going to want to come back. But you know, you know, there's a lot of great players coming up that are already better than Dustin Johnson. They're already better than Brooks. Brooks Kepka was awful,
right, he was terrible. He finished like fiftieth, you know, and he and a lot of people had him as a favorite to win the tournament and he was never in it. He would, I mean you but it's funny because you know, we have the golf pulling my uh my son who he had, Brooks Kepka, And on Saturday he goes, I haven't seen him on TV all week long because he hadn't been you know, he hadn't been there. And so you know, in the end, the PGA Tours fel Live Golf is like the U s f L. Right, that's what
it is. Yeah, all right, So anyway, so that's uh that you know, that's the As mentioned, the uf A women's golf team is in the is in the Las Vegas Regional. The way this works in the in NCAA tournament off, there are six regions. Uh, there's there's twelve teams in each region, and the top five teams qualify for the National Championship tournament. Arizona is the three seed in last in Las Vegas, so they're expected to, uh to qualify, but you know, you've got to go
out and play. And I'm sure their goal is to, you know, obviously get to the get to the n C Double A n C Double A Championship. And so, uh it's three three times out of out of four years. And they like, they like the fact that they're in the West, so they're very happy to not have to go very far. So anyways, uh so women's golf in the n C Double A tournament. Uh, Phoenix Sun's got got blasted a little bit last night, one five to ninety
three. They're down to zip to the timber Wolves. They have They're back in Phoenix, not for the next two games to play on Friday at seven thirty and on Sunday at six thirty. Yeah, so Howard hasn't called, which doesn't surprise me. One and two it's just very obvious. And and and when we were in in Phoenix for the final four, and then I was there for a function a week later. All I heard is how this
not dysfunctional. That was not the word. It's disjointed. How this team was with the with the top players and they can't afford to mess up. They got to be at their best. They're not there. They don't have enough depth, and when the Big three go south, this thing goes south.
And I guess now maybe throughout the whole year, KD has just kind of shown he's just not into it, or he's he's uh this this disinterested whatever it was, which which is you know, everybody who wants to say, a k D and one of the best players ever physically talented, Yes, can you shoot the lights out He's a seven footer who can shoot from
anywhere. Yes, but he's always had the mental piece of it. Uh yeah, be a question whether it's engaging with fans on the right or whatever, engaging with the team, being a being a locker room killer or whatever. You know, eighteen points last night, six rebounds to assist, you haven't grant you got to do better twenty five at least, Yeah, you got your better booker the same thing. Do you did you forget about the basketball or are you gonna go to basketball? Men's basketball? What they have.
They got a commitment. Oh yes, no, I'm going there. UH men's basketball got a commitment from the from the kid out of a out of uh Oakland on the Oakland is a team that beat Kentucky Kentucky in in in the first round n C double. They turn on trying to get the kids. Dad. He's the guy that's supposed to replace the Johnson Keisha. Kind of a big body, kind of a guy who can score it. Yeah, probably, you know, maybe even a better probably certainly better shoot
rise than horising player of the year. Yeah, a little smaller, it's only six six, but he's really a shooter. Yeah. And and and I mean he's a physical specimen. I mean you look at his body and you go, Okay, that guy, you know, that guy can go I'm looking at it. Said that about he shot too, which of course he did. He did hit him. He hit a motor, hit a motor about him, just like he shot Yeah, what's not to like? What's not to like? He just uh, I wish he could have shot
better? Yeah shot better. Yeah he shot put the end of the year. But yeah, right yeah, Townsend, UH play started one hundred and twenty twenty nine games started. All thirty six games last year, average seventeen points, eight rebounds. You know, I'm gonna put some point. What's the day? What's the day today? Twenty fourth, twenty fourth of April, ok, apol Right, I'm not sure. At this time, everyone was saying Tommy Lloyd sucks, can't recruit. What the hell is he doing?
Uh can come June. Everything. Everybody was happy, it's April twenty fourth. I got this kid. Uh. There's still a lot of motion in the portal, a lot of people coming and going, still jumping in. So I need to be patient with this. Yeah. Yeah, I mean because two years ago, right when he the year that he got Courtney Raimie, Yeah, didn't get those guys like in June. Yeah right, So yeah, I mean there's pretty late too, Yeah, because because the
Michigan thing. Yeah, Michigan, there's there's a ways to go. There's there's a long ways to go, all right. Getting back to your Uh, we were mentioning Jordan Morgan. Mal Kuiper is the one we don't know. Mal Kiper's the the uh ESPN ESPN draft guy that really the first of the of the mock draft guys. He's got Jordan Morgan going to thirty one overall to the forty nine ers would be a nice place for him to land because you know, between the rock and right, Yeah, you want to
be an early draft pick. But if you're a nearly draft pick, you go to a tein that usually sucks, right, And that's that's kind of the drag of it. You know, Jordan Morgan coming out of u of a, you go land go land in in San Francisco. That has to be pretty cool. It has to be pretty fun. So that's where it's That's where that's where Matt Kuiper has uh. Georg, did I say Matt Matt Matt Manildson, No, Kuiper, Malt Kuiper has him has him going.
Uh. We've been talking about the rankings for Arizona Baseball that they're they're in all the all the rank is now D one Baseball has Arizona projected to host a regional that's in three weeks, the sixteen seed UH to host in Tucson. They've got uc Irvine, San Diego and the dreaded, the dreaded Grand Canyon Universal Region. Yeah. Yeah, but UH as a as a number sixteen seats, So kind of the last the last team to host. But that'd be fun. You know, Arizona hasn't host in a while.
It'd be cool if they if they were able to do that. So we'll see if they keep things going. Do they play this weekend? Do they play this weekend? Washington State? I want to know. They just finished Washington State, that's what they just had U c l A. I don't I think they just played them too. I don't know because in a couple of weeks they have the tournament, right, the twelve tournament the women. The women go to u c l A. Know that, and they then
there, then their tournament starts. But here, I got it right here. But baseball is God, this is horrible TV. This is horrible. First of all, they got your aggies tonight, Steve at five o'clock, one of those stas. They're in Las Cruises to play. Then they go to Washington. Well, then they're at Washington. It's the best thing to happened in Alls Cruises today, not in the Green Chile. Mexic Yeah, New Mexico State, expos state. Yeah, they have a bunch of people
from here, from Tucson. They recruit the hed gut of Tucson. Remember Gonzales. Uh, he's he came from here, he went to New York School State. How's he downs that kid doing. He's in triple a. He's doing in triple A. But he's killing it in triple A. Okay, because he didn't make the big club. Uh. Well, this New Mexico State team isn't very good. They're seventeen. No, no, got one more. Grand Canyon get in next week. Yeah they do that. That's an odd it's an odd schedule of a game. Well, yeah,
I mean good the way they compressed the schedule. So guy, the teams have to get games in during the conference seasons, so they usually have a game a non conference game. They remember, they played a non conference game at Stanford a couple of weeks ago when they were up, when they were up playing Cow. So they'll do that too, all right, Reggie Bush. And then finally, I've been saving this for last, Reggie Bush gets his Heisman trophy back. He'll be in the Heisman House and all that other
stuff. And I haven't I just know that he got it back. I haven't seen any of the statements or anything about you know why they did and what they did. But Reggie Bush gets his Heisman Trophy back, and I
know he's happy to be happy to get it back. Now that the speed limit has been moved to eighty five, everybody who got tickets are okay, Yeah, if you got a ticket for going eighty five, way back, way back in the day, you're off the Yeah, which, which of course means for me, is now that paying players is legal, you can get your trophy back and your parents. But he was. He was formerly reinstated by the by the Heisman Trust or whatever you call them. I should
know them because I do vote. Uh, but he got his original trophy back and then the replica that was given to USC so they can put it back in their their haul of champions or whatever whatever it is. So Reggie Bush with it, taking taking pictures with his Heisman trophy all over again. Good for him. Steve I literally one of the greatest college football players ever ever, A long time in coming obviously, Yeah, you know, by
all accounts, a good guy. But talk to him. Don't mention them on our show, please please, But I mean, how great how great was he that senior or his last year. I mean, he he watched just to watch him. Yeah, I mean I remember, Uh we saw a game at the Coliseum. Arizona played at the Coliseum and the angle we had watch him receive a punt and run it back and just just the way the thing opened up for him and my dad was went behind the back against
Yeah, that Fresno Steak game. I remember watching that game. It's incredible. All right, we're gonna take our second break on our first break at this hour, should say, and we're gonna be back with Pat Finley, Chicago Sun Times beat Ryder covering the Chicago Bears as well as the NFL. He's indie, I believe for the drafts. So we'll get the paths perspective on what do the expense to see at the draft tomorrows. To be sure to stick around for that. We'll be right back. We have Patrick Finley from the Chicago sometimes Patrick ki doing. I'm doing good, boys. How about you? We're doing well. Are you busy on the eve of the draft or is your work done? Just got done a little bit ago. Tomorrow is one of the longer days of the of the sports calendar. If you're a writer out here on the East
Coach the draft starts at eight pm. Oh wow. There's literally there's nothing that can happen really between when I wake up at eight pm. So I've actually given myself like busy work to do during the day, just just to have something. But yeah, I'm yeah, I just found our uh A long story from my conversation with CATB. Williams today and the sidebar about Rome and Dune Day, whether he can end up in Chicago and now a knock on, we're free for me, all right? So, uh, you
know, obviously the talk is what Chicago going to do. Last time you were on, you said they're taking Caleb William. Everybody knows that that's happening tomorrow. But after that it gets kind of nutty. I think Jaydon Bradley, Jane Bradley, I still got basketball in my brain, Daniels, Jade and Daniels. Is you know you're gonna go a second? But then after that it gets Does it get squirrely or is there is there some predictability to
what happens after number two? I think it gets a little squirrely. I know teams that like Drake May, and I know teams that don't like Drake May. Right now, if I had to bet, I think he's going to go third. But I can see some variants there. J J. McCarthy. I think if somebody's gonna go get him in the top eight, which I think is a bit of a surprise, I'm still not I don't know that he's going to be a good NFL quarterback. And I say that
just because you know he hasn't shown it in college. They didn't really lean on him at all. It takes some imagination to see it, but teams are desperate for quarterbacks. Beyond that, I mean to me, if if I had the bat, I think the top eight picks are going to be offensive players. Guys like that's that's gonna be crazy. I think there's a chance you see four quarterbacks re receivers and Notre Dame tackled Joe allt go in the top eight and then, uh, that's too bad because the Bears are
sitting at nine and I'm sure would like a couple of those guys. So total, let me ask you, if I put your I want you to put your scout head on. I'm sure you kind of tipped all the quarterbacks as well, or maybe you haven't. And I'm asking this for a friend who I work with. Here, is Jayden Daniels any good? He is? Arizona State teammates burn his stuff when he well, that's my point. I think Jay's burned him in his head. If Pat, I'm just gonna
tell you I left him off my higsman bout I did. I just left completely off, and not just because he's an ace, you guy. I just didn't I just didn't think he did enough. I didn't think he was that good. I thought Michael Pennix was the best quarterback last year. That's probably I probably would have voted for him too. I'll say this now, with the with the sanctions on herm does this mean that none of those games counted anyway? And does this mean that your hatred can go away? No,
I don't think that I hate him for everything. To answer your to answer your question, I think what makes Jalen or Jayden interesting is that we're in the world now, in the NFL, where your ability to run for your life as a quarterback is a really important thing to have. Let's look
at Anthony Richardson last year with the cult. Anthony Richardson was a bad college quarterback, like bad, yeah, and he winds up going forth because they loved this athleticism, because they sat there and saw that that's the way the NFL works now. And you know, before he got hurt, he was okay. I think that's some of the appeals to Daniels. I think I'd rather have May as a passer, but I think Daniel's ability to get out
and run. Is the reason you're hearing him talk about is the numbership quarterback. Now you can you talk about the number three pick, and that's the Patriots. Are you know, are they going to stay there and take one of these quarterbacks? I would, if I were them, like, this is a really good quarterback class, and I would argue to you that quarterbacks
four is better than quarterback one next year. Right, yeah, yeah, So let me ask you real quick, because you cover Chicago and this might be too much to ask, but would you do the same thing that they're going to do with Caleb Williams? Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I think Kaylen's the best quarterback in this draft by a wide margin.
I think he's the best quarterback from last year's draft two despite what we saw, despite what we saw the Texans guy do I mean, the reason that the Bears made that move last year to trade the number one pick for Panthers was because they were looking ahead and they liked, you know, all of these guys who were coming out in twenty twenty four more than they liked the
guys in twenty twenty three. Now, I would say Jay Stroud and made a lot of teams look dumb, including the Bear by going out and being great from day one. But no, I think this was the plan, and I think the plan worked out really well. When the Panthers had the worst record in football and gifted Caleb Williams to the Bears, I think what
the Bears have done this offseason surround him with help is really important. You know, they traded for Keenan Allen, They went and signed DeAndre Swift, They went and got Gerald Everett, the place high end behind Cole Comet. You know they've done. You know, they traded first center. You know they might draft an offensive player number nine, you know tomorrow. That's a lot of help for for a quarterback who you know, who's probably gonna need
a little bit of it. I mean the Bears, you know, I would read I could read off the list of the receivers the Bears gave Justin Fields and his rookie year, and I'm not sure most of your listeners would have heard of them, Like they're just brutal and and you know, putting a better roster around the kid's going to give him a chance to succeed. And that's as you go. No, that's that's that doesn't happen around here there yet. Yeah, all right, So going to number four, there's
some local interest about the Cardinals. What's the buzz about the Cardinals? What do they what did? What's the expectation that will see? I mean most of everybody said they're going to trade the pick. But what do you think. I think if they were smart, they'd take Marvin Harrison and walk away with a smile on their face. If I wrote this today, I think Martin Harrison's got the best chance of anybody in this draft to be a Hall of Famer. You know. I think he's got the best chance to be
a five times bow Bowl player. I think he's really good. And the fact that he didn't participate and kind of you know, you know, the NFL does all of these pre draft things, you know, all off season, and Marvin Harrison opted out right away. I think the fact that he did is it made him a little less talked about that he should be. He's the best receiver in this class, and you know, he's if you know, if there's one thing the Cardinals need, it's a great receiver.
You know, I would take him, and I would pray, pray to God that he's Larry's cacherl two point oh, because I think I don't think that's an unreal A stick hoped for him. Yeah, I know you to this, Patrick. You've been covering the team for how long? Oh my god, eleven years? Oh that long? Okay, I was gonna say eight or so. How many of those eleven, how many have been winning seasons? Let's put it this way. Because of COVID, the Bear submitted
the playoff. They played two playoff games since I started covering them. One was during COVID when nobody went to the game. The other was, I don't know what you guys remember this. They were playing the Eagles at home in the first round in two thousand eight, and their kicker Cody Parky, who'd been that all year, had a field goal to win the game at the buzzer and joinked it off of both up right. Yeah, forget that game. The only bearst playoff game I've covered in person ended with one of
the worst finishes in the history of the past. A lot of other teams playoff games, and those have been fun, but not so much. Has anybody at the paper thought we got Thinddley here. Maybe he's the problem. You know, I think they've won. I think they've won four playoff games in thirty years. So it got does you good? Good? Good point? Okay, Well they get Caleb Williams. What does it look like next year? I mean is it are they? Are they another you know,
four or five win season? Can they get to five hundred? How good can they be? Uh? Coming out of this draft? This is a Tigna finished seven and ten last year. I think that, you know, better than that would be a good accomplishment for them, somewhere in the eight or nine win range. I think the talent on this roster is better. I think the quarterback play is going to be better. And yeah, I mean, you know, you can talk about playoffs with a strange face.
Enough teams make the playoffs in the NFL these days that you can say the word playoffs, and I think it's realistic. So now that you have covered fields a few years or a couple of years at least, was he just not ready? Was he bad? What was the situation? I think it
was. I think there was a lot that went into it. I think he's a tremendous athlete who because he was such a good runner, probably wound up relying too much on it. I think the Bears surrounded him with really crappy roster for three quarters of his time in Chicago, and that was not his fault, but that was kind of the you know, the cards that
he was dealt. You know, you wonder about you know, he just he wasn't hitting the open guy as much as you need to hit the open guy in the NFL, and as much as we talked about athleticism about how being able to run it's a really important trade for a quarterback. At the end of the day, it's thirty seven and you got to complete a pass, like that's the like, that's the game, right, like like let's go to the super Bowl. You know, brock perty, what was it,
third and six, third and five. You know, at the end of day, you know, everybody in the world knows you're throwing. You got to throw, and you got to complete it, and justin just never
got to that point. I would love to see him go succeed somewhere else because if he's somebody who takes it seriously, he is you know, you kind of know when you and you guys know this from all your ears covering sports, you kind of know the people who who work hard and who kind of deserve good things, and you know the people who are lazy or who don't care or who you know, stay out all night. Justin's not that. Justin as somebody who's you know, this is really important to him and
going to the Steelers, I think a really good up. K. We're talking to Patrick Fine in Chicago Sun Times, writer covering the Bears in the NFL okay an intriguing pick at number five where the Chargers are. Do you see what would Jim Harbott take his quarterback? I don't think so. I mean, you know, there, I guess there's a world where they could trade Herbert, but the amount of debt money they'd have to take to do it, I think makes it a bad idea, like like just a non
starter. Yeah, my justice, they're going to trade back and maybe to the Viking. Let the Vikings come take JJ McCartney and then you know, if that gives him what eleven and twenty three, you know, then he can take a right tackle of eleven and that'd be great to put next to Rashaun Slater their left tackle over the next ten years. And then you know, go get a receiver late maybe you know, maybe Brian Thomas or somebody
of that kind of falls there. I think they're going to play smash football, and you know, I don't know that taking you know, you know, Roma Dunda five really fits with what they're trying to with the message. They're trying to say, I'm curious, did you do a mock draft? Yeah? I did too many mock drafts. Yes, it is so my mock for most of the off seasons. That has been a June Day to the Bears. I talked to a dunse today and how cool is this?
So Cat Williams is so sure that he's joined the Bears that he actually had a throwing session last week with Dj Moore and Keenan al like his two Bears receivers in Los Angeles, and they decided to actually invite Rome at Tuesday to come do it with. So, you know, you can read the tea leaves there and think that there might be a sting. So I talked to Tuesday about that, and you talked about how cool would be to be in that room with you know, he thinks Keenan Allen's the Hall of Famer.
He thinks Dj Moore is really good, and he thinks so that the three of them are on the field, nobody's going to get double LEAs to me, that makes sense. I fear that a dude. I fear that a duke. They won't be available, and if he's not, I could see the Bears moving back a couple of thoughts. They only have four draft picks this year. That's the fewest picks of any team in the league. So you know they could always use a little more. I'll give you this fun
fact real quick. The Bears traded more twenty twenty four draft picks, then they have twenty to twenty four downs. If that makes sense. Well, okay, So what I wanted to ask you was, was there a surprise person or player you put in your first round that you thought, maybe, okay, this might work somewhere that none of us would be kind of a what would be surprised about. I don't know that's surprised. The Maconte kid, the receiver from Georgia. I really like him to the Chiefs at thirty
two. That's nominally a first round pick, but you know, the chief needed a receiver even before Rashid Rice decided to go play speed racer. Yeah, and my guest is there's going to be some sort of punishment coming. So you know, even the seventh receiver taking in the draft I think makes a ton of sense for the chief. All right, so what do you? How do you cover this? What do you? What do you? What will you do tomorrow? So you obviously got to get the Caleb Williams,
But how do you cover it? I mean, where are you at the draft? You know, are you out in the audience or are you in the back room? Are you is there a press box? Where are you covering this from there? There's a media room here where you can set up all your stuff. At previous drafts I've covered, which has been in Chicago and in Dallas and in Philadelphia, you've actually there's also a place to go in the room where you can watch there in the auditorium, where you
can watch the announcement. So in a perfect world, I sit up there, watch the announcement, get some color, you know, I mean, you know, most of the world is watching this on television. I'm not. So if I can get some color that exists outside of the you know,
the panorama of the camera, that's always a really good move. So time to get that, and then they will bring Cas for a press conference, probably a half hour after he gets picked, and then if we're lucky you we'll get him alone for a couple of minutes and then we'll do the same thing again at number nine. So it'll be it'll be a late night.
The year they drafted Mitch r. Disky in Philadelphia, I took an Uber home from the draft at two a m. Eastern and my Uber driver nodded off on a bridge and I had to wake her and I had to wake her up and talk to her until we got to my hotel. So, uh so it'll be a late night, is what I'm trying to say. Well, you kept me awake through and you know what, I usually just go go sightseeat in Detroit in the morning. I'll love it, He'll love it. Somebody actually asked me like, like you know Hitsville, the
USA, like the Motown Museum, Like I might do that tomorrow? Why not? That could be okay, might be a list, might be a one thing list to do. Did you have a quick question? Yeah, well I was just going to ask about the stadium announcement that came out today. What your thoughts were on that because I know it's been God bless them, Yeah, God bless him for having a two hour press conference on the day that I'm not in town. You know, it's gonna be a big
fight there. I mean, they're talking about a stadium project that you know, in the four billion dollar range. It's you know, it's just just south of the current Soldier Field site, so it's downtown UH, and they're going to see what they can get from the state in the city UH and other municipalities. They're pledging about three million of their own money. But you
know, we'll see, we'll see how that goes. Never forget, guys, they own three hundred and twenty six acres in the suburbs that they bought to build a stadium on and then right apparently as of now, are not going to build a stadium on it. So I wouldn't be surprised that we're playing politics for another year here, trying to play the city up, you know, against the suburbs and vice versa. You can contribute by going under your bed right now and say Patrick, thank you. I was good to
talk text about Patt. Thank you, guys. That's fun. That's fun. He's always good. You know, it's it's fun. It's fun, you know. I'm just they're gonna draft six quarterbacks in the first round. Yeah, you think Panics is not going to go in the first row. I don't know, to go top fifteen could follow the second round, right, How old is he? At one hundred, he's like twenty six. That is not like two ACL Yeah yeah, right, so you so maybe you could be drugged. I've only had one ACL injury, but I'm sixty
five. I'm a little bit. Okay, Hey, that was good. All right, We're gonna take our final break. Will take your calls when we come back. Five two zero forty. We hope to hear from you. Hey, we you know we gotta take George to dinner because oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Basketball well, I'm not. I just told him that he's won that. Yeah, he might take us, he might

Yeah, but oh you know what I'll do. I'll pick it. I'll pick it up. I'll be like you a lunch, you owe me like eight lunch. No, I owe you a lunch, and then you owe me the five dollars weekly thing that that lasted about sixty bucks. I have to go back, and so we'll see what happens with that. The second thought, just
because you said that we're splitting George's lunch. Yeah, we'll find Okay, Yeah, we gotta find him. He's never around, he's always doing see him every Tuesday. Oh yeah, that's right. Do you guys talk everybody talks or yeah, like thirty seconds in a minute. Hey, I'm George. This is what I do. Yeah. These are funny to be. Yeah, they're just funny to be. Hey, you know what it works? These guys do what a fraternity get out of business? Hey, they
are bun it is like a bunch of frat guys. Yeah, for sure, but uh, you got a good group. I like it. Okay, again, if you want to call five two oh four, one, six, seventy four forty, give us a call. Let us know what you think. Playoffs are still going on. Will Arizona get some more people in the portal anytime soon? Doesn't really matter. Did you see that? Oh? Did you see the thing with the Damien Martinez today? No?
Apparently he is saying that the Oregon State Collective Yeah, what's the right word just didn't pay him what they have promised to pay him. Wow. He said he was supposed to have been getting four hundred thousand dollars wow. And then he got maybe a quarter and then and the collective is saying we gave him everything that we said we were going to give him, which I don't know what that you know? And that Yeah, and that's where was this
something I saw? Well? I I thought reported on Twitter, but I can't can't remember who was reported, but that that you know that that's one of the reasons why he, uh, he left because because they he came out and said they lied. Welcome to the world of college football. College basketball all this this is crazy, that's crazy. So you promise see four hundred thousand you gave me one hundred thousand dollars and I'm mad about it. Yeah yeah, Well you know, but that he was supposed to be getting
more. And well, imagine what Arizona's gonna pay him. Imagine what miam is gonna And that's that's the conversation that came up with us. It's like, uh, you know, is Arizona really in the you know, you know, hunt to have the money to you know, to do that kind of thing. Right? How many how many nice cars get in Arizona?
You know, here's my analogy, right, how many nice cars can you have in the in the garage that you're paying there paying to have them inside the garage, but you know you're gonna use them or you're gonna use them sparingly because you have to pay so many for so many insurances and all that
stuff with the cars. How many of these guys can you pay exactly and right, and four hundred thousand dollars and so, you know, so many schools you have the money to do that, you better be washing my dishes and making the beds too, because going, that's what you're getting paid?
Holy moly. Yeah, yeah, I don't know, man, I mean, if that's a true story, and if that's the amount of money that you know, he was getting last year with the expectation that he's going to do a little bit better than that this year, I don't know, right right, Well, this is very difficult, very difficult for little fans. Like we said at the beginning of the top of the show, Texas A and M having to let people go because the economics of today's world in athletics
and this is Texas A and M Jay right, they have cash? Well you think you have cash, you think they have cash, but you know, do they really right, not under these circumstances. And that was four or five guys that that go. And we don't know what Desiree here is going to do. But they need to find money. How do you find money and find money you let go of other money? Well, yeah, but the numbers are so big, Steve, you know, I mean, how many millions of dollars do you have? Do you need not have?
But do you need to pay your football players? You don't know if if I know, if a fee of commands a million or half a million or total. I get it, I get it. How do you get where do you get it? Where do you go the line? And who? Right? Who doesn't get who? Did I hear you? What was my problem at the beginning of all this when I told you if Jay's getting paid X amount of money and he's the quarterback and I'm the center and I'm not getting paid, I gotta make old for him. I'm a little upset.
Yeah, because you're not successful. If I'm not successful, no, one hundred percent percent and and and right. And look, I mean these kids are in a lot, in a lot of ways pretty immature, right questions. So they are going to go, well, he's getting this, how come I'm not getting sure? And you just wonder how how that affects a locker room? Right? No, exactly, And I'm sure it has in
a number of different levels. Here, okay, here's here's the story was in uh in Athletic Business dot Com about Martinez about about Damien Martinez saying that it's the nil collective lied to him, Damn damn d a m nation. Two words is the is the name is the name of their collective? He said. He said he's quoted saying I want everyone to know that they did not buy me a house I did. They did not buy me the car
I did. They did not give me four hundred k. I didn't even receive one hundred k of the four hundred k. Well, and they said would they say said that that's a lie too. They came out and said, Uh, every single thing that I or this collective has said they will do for the student athlete, we have one thousand percent delivered. Period. That's a fact. The head of their collective cannot say so one of them's not. Somebody's lying or both, or they could be you know, fudging,
stretching a little bit right right right. That's what the world has come to. It's unbelievable, unbelievable. And if you're a fan, if you're a fan that has money, wouldn't you say, if this is what it's gonna lead to, I don't want to be part of one of you. Yes, if it's gonna be these types of kind of skeasy things in the news media and stuff like that, I want to keep my money. Yeah, I don't want to. I don't want to be a part of this. And another way not to get the money. Yeah, I don't want
to. I don't want a twenty year old dude accusing me or us or the people I'm associated with of ripping them off, of not coming through and then having the people I'm associated with come out and shred the guy. Right. You know, it's just like it's it's all very really, it's like your casino guy, you know, and the pit parky washes himself from all this and says goodbye. I hate him when they do that, it's too
normal. It feels like to me like they're knocking all the bad luck out of their hands and leaving it on the table for the next for the next dealer. I hate that. Yeah, I hate that. So I you know, I don't know, but you know, somebody sent me that that that story and said, is there zona even in this ballpark? You know, they're they're gonna be given a kid like like Damian Martinez four hundred. They got to be in some type of ball park. Look at what we
had. What really shook me last week was the deal Barnes saying, putting that out there and just saying we don't have very much and we're going against Alice Shoes made me an extreme right. Yeah, but if we don't have any much means they still got to compete with the people that are competing in right, And it might be fine and dandy for Brent Brannan to say, well, if money is the first thing on a guy's mind, we're really not interested in that guy. But you know what, somebody else, somebody
else will do. Nobody else is interested in that guy, and they are going to give that guy, sure that that money. And now you don't have him, and you got to go somewhere else for a guy. Right, So it got this this whole upheaval of what it's like out there. So this is what I was gonna talk to you about when I thought about
this today. So back in COVID times and we were thinking about there's no way they're gonna be able to do sustaining because they were like forty five millions in the whole right then that first year, and everybody had no issues with it. Right, they figure out a way, well they kind of did, but they didn't. But these coaches making five three, five six million dollars, just they gonna stop doing that. And not not just Arizona,
everybody you see Brent Brandon Carroll's getting one point two million. I watch it, and that's my point. They're not gonna stop that. They're not gonna stop paying the coaches. Yeah, the coaches aren't going to take pay cuts right to pay to pay out an I ol? Right, you think? Let me say, do you think coaches are gonna pay? Would they pay for any They've got four and a half million dollars in their pocket this year. You think they're gonna put any money into it? I don't think they
can. But you know what I'm saying, No, yeah, no, I mean if they if they can, what they would do is they say, cut my pay or make that go to right? You think they're gonna do that? No, exactly, that's the ANSWERFIC. We're gonna get his seven and a half million dollars no matter what. Sure, and we'll coach them up. We'll go down there and get some Arizona can and then we'll hope the Florida job comes open anytime. Suits exactly. No, it's a
it's a it's a it's a vicious cycle because it's just not sustainable. You know, you want to go get this money, but then you got these players who want it, coaches want it. Uh. Then you know you still got to build facilities. Uh, you know, you got to have private planes for the basketball team. Jay. You know, it's just that's one year. That's four hundred thousand one year. What do you do for
the next year? And I get it. You know, athletes have deserved to get paid for a really long time, not this way to go from zero to four hundred thousand dollars or zero to two million dollars or whatever it is now nowadays. And and you know, in a lot of those cases, Steve, they're getting that money out of the goodness of somebody else's heart or out of somebody's fandom. I'm such a great fan, I'll put this money in so you can make a million dollars a year and we can win
some games. I've already said this. I know some people who are who are big fans, and they're being asked to do it, and they're fans enough to do it, and their business is of being affected because now we had the layoff some people. Right, So at some point they're gonna say, I'm sorry, I can't because I have people to pay and they have families to feed. Right, What's your choice, honestly, morally, Moraley, you're a business owner. Do I keep my employees happy? Or do
I pay to you? Way to give money? To give money to the offensive tackle tough. Yeah, it's gonna be really, really hard, and I don't know how they're ever going to figure this out. It just doesn't seem it just doesn't seem like anything that can be figured. No, you're right, the genie's out of the bottle. How are you gonna put the
thing back in? I don't know, no idea. The good thing is you and I don't have to worry about it while you're bringing me down again here at the end of the show, just in time, and I'm gonna go home and it'll be really bummed. I'm gonna go get under the blankets and pull them over my head and then watch the rest of the Dodger game and they'll depress you even more. Good show, Thank you, Henry Uh.
I think you'll be back in time or two, right, and you see what you want to do with us the rest of the semester, rest of the summer. Okay, all right, well, okay, you can come back. Even though you're a Yankee fan, you wear their gear and stuff. Of course you say, just don't worry here, Henry, don't worry, but you're okay. We gotta go, We got all right, we gotta get out of here, all right. Well, see you tomorrow. Be sure to be back
