your guys. Show is always appreciate it. I'm not fustated with the basketball program. I want to know what's going on with our softball program and baseball. UA has not had a dominant picture in softball in years, and anytime they face a decent team, the whole team number one, you know, one through eight, one through nine, cannot hit, we don't score. It's a I don't know what's going on because we used to get some good players and we're not getting the quality of players we used to get. And

uh, I just want to know what you're gonna think about that. Well, you probably could have called into your own sports talk show. You asked and answer the same question. Well, the whole thing both teams, both the baseball team and football team. You said at first, the pitching neither team is you know, I mean last time Arizona was really good, they had really good pitching, So, uh, they don't you know, they've been hard. There's been a lot of missus too, Right, there's been

a lot of pitchings. Oh this is you know, one of the best high school pitchers ever. Then they get here and they're they're not that yeah, because they're they're a's of a stab what's your name mets them and that yeez see, like probably A five probably wasn't even pitch and UCLA some of these other schools, and I just don't understand. And then, uh, you know, we can beat the lousy teams. We hit, you know, spore fourteen fifteen runs, but this weekend against Oregon we'll probably get swept

again. I think it's up there. And uh, and the baseball team has no pitching whatsoever. And I just, uh, used to have great programs and now they're they're mediocre. Well I think, um, what was this rubber? Yeah, so so just last year they were both in the playoffs, right, they snuck in or whatever the game from. So aren't we kind of just maybe painting the brush? And I'm not trying to go all poop poo in on on your comment because you're right, but maybe it's

a one off. Maybe maybe maybe not. But we've seen the program falter from what we're used to, right, So there's that's fair. Uh where it goes from here, I don't know, because it's once you're it's not that it's this is not nineteen ninety five. They will never be nineteen ninety five, and it's not I think a lot of people still believe that that's possible. Other teams play hard too and get the get get the recruits too. It was on a baseball I don't know. I don't know because that's

cyclical too. Yeah it is. And I'm sure that that Jeff Hill thought he had a better pitching staff than he had. I think he talked about that when he came on the show. Yeah, yeah, I thought they were gonna be so well. I forgot about the World Series last year, but it's still frustrating to watch when they play a decent team the girls softball, right, well, that's the whole thing that's the whole thing, you

know, Sean, And I use this analogy loosely. Sean left here with a lot of wins, three hundred and some I don't know how many losses, maybe one hundred or whatever, and everybody, well he won. Well, people don't talk about the sixty games he beat against NYAU, right, I mean honestly again, and you were below, right, so no one talks about that, But he won a lot of games. You just talked about them beating the bad teams, right, well, yeah, man,

je, So is that okay? Probably not because you're not Yeah, you're not competing against the bad teams. You're competing against the UCLAs of the world, right right. That was like there was a hopefully they had to get better and transfer that. I'm glad it's gone. I always said it before Kirt Crease. So you can't go to West Virginia and wish him well there,

but I'm glad that guy's gone. And I don't know if there's a lot of guys still out there that I think the uas, you know, trying to get a cup in. But hopefully, you know, I think we'll be okay. And I think Tommy Lloyd is going to have a great program here for years of com All right, Hey, thanks a bunch for the call. Man, I appreciate it. Thank you, guys, take care, goodbye. And the thing about it is there's a high standard set for both of those programs that they won a bunch of national championships, both of them, and it's frustrating when they aren't good. All right, So let's get to this because we said we would do that. So this is high news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Okay, belated start to breaking news, but all kinds of stuff breaking right now. You're just announced of not that long ago. The job Moran

is out for Game two. The Grizzlies player who So, now the Lakers are a one and a half point favorite in Game two. Lakers already have a win under their belt. Yeah, that's pretty bad for Memphis. Yeah, that's memphisis the two seats. So, m that's it's not going well for Memphis. Uh, not not not well at all. I think that there's you know, they're they're in trouble. You know, just as we said the Sons were gonna be in trouble. They lost a second game at

home, so John Morant out for the game tonight against the Lakers. Um also out Tiger Woods at another surgery, at an ankle surgery on the on the leg that he blew up in that in that car wreck. Um, he said, just a lingering arthritic issue. He said, he go in then get it, get it cleaned out. So who knows when he'll be Uh he'll be golfing again. But uh, we saw that he had to

withdraw from the Masters. He was limping, uh pretty pronouncing the third round and then they uh they got delayed for the fourth round, and he just said he can't play anymore. So Tiger Woods out with another surgery again. Um, maybe out is uh Trey lance. The versions that the forty nine ers have Trey Lance on the trading block really brock Purdie having emerged as a

as a potential starter. Um, it looks like the uh there's I'm not saying he's shopping around, but what they're saying is that forty nine ers are taking calls from people interested in trade. Remember all the future and blah blah blah. Right tells you what Wally pipped and totally Wally and Purdy was isn't spectacular, but he's again one of those guys, right, just get the

job done, right and just get the job done absolutely so. So there's some word that Trey Lance, the quarterback, uh the forty nine ers on the trading block. Interesting. Um, we talked about this minute ago. Um about the women's golf team. Uh, they do get to the regionals having finished in fourth place in the Pac twelf tournament. Okay, so more work for you, yeah, more work for Jason all right? Um? Uh so Uh a lot of profanity lace video on Twitter today from from baseball

games. Uh, the Reds manager went off, Uh, you know what the field mics feel. Good news is the field mics are getting better. Bad news is the field Mexic getting better because they're picking everything up. And so did you see the Cincinnati Red one? Yeah, that's I saw it, but I didn't I didn't listen to it. What was the deal? He a picture through a hindside pitch and the Reds manager wanted him thrown out

of the game. I saw I saw that part. So then then he got and then he got tossed because he came out tossing and chasing the umpire around the field and the whole bit he got tossed because it was to me, it was like the few f bombs there. Then there was another one, I think it was the Mariners manager, a bunch of a bunch of F bombs that got caught. And then M. Max Scherzer got tossed from his game. I was watching this when it was happening. They were playing

the Dodgers, pitching against the Dodgers. So he's coming off the field. You know how they checked their so they were checking in his hands and they felt like there was something stick in his hand. The umpire got his glove. It felt like there was something sticky inside the glove. They told him

he couldn't use the glove anymore. He was really pissed. Went in, comes back out and he still got sticky on his hands and they told him and he's trying to tell him it's Rosin, but they said it's too sticky and they tossed it and he was very unhappy. Oh well, it's called baseball. I mean, that's what baseball. Baseball's kind of crazy, but it's fun. Yeah. Um, they're getting thrown out in an f bombs.

That's called Tuesday. The funny thing that was that listening to watching the game, I was watching the MLB TV, so I was watching the Dodgers broadcast. Oral Hirscheizer, who's you know, announces four of the Dodgers. He actually was upset that hurt that Scherzer got tossed. He basically said, if it's borderline enough that you're not one hundred percent sure, what's gonna let him pitch? Forty three thousand Dodgers fans came here to watch the Mats and

Max Scherzer throw against the dog, and now you're tossing. So he was actually standing up for Shures, which made me think, how much did but yeah, that's sixty sixty scoreless innings run. Uh he was back in nineteen eighty eight. So anyways, but Max ers it gets tossed and he wasn't at So you can go on you can go on social media or whatever. You can see all kinds of video of guys getting really upset at things going on in their games. Um, I'm happy to report that the that the

Diamondbacks got their butts kick fourteen to five. So the Dodgers, even though they lost to the lost to the email Mets. They don't lose ground on the Diamondbacks, who are in first place. Steep, Wow, they're in first place. It's May. It's April nine and they're in first place. Yeah, okay, there in first place. Good luck and uh and so oh another one. You can see some some Madison bomb Garner got started yelling f bombs that uh at a batter who. I don't know what the batter

did, but they got in a heated, uh verbal altercation. So, like I said, i'll kind of like the field mics are picking up everything. Yeah, no, I get it. It's uh baseball, but this is what it is, all right, This one's for you, Steve, Okay, for your San Diego Padres bet Okay. Fernando Tatisus comes back because he was destroying to see a picture from the minor leagues called him and called him achief. That was about two two three weeks ago. I guess he'd

hit a bomb against it. Yeah, the balls over there. Yeah, I guess what. I'm not here. I'm not gonna be here in a couple of weeks. You are shut out. Pull the shack. He might be scoring more points, but I would to make a lot of money like that. So for now that that he's eighty game of suspension, suspension from uh uh in a performance enhancing But you said, who was the partner that Scott hurt? Did somebody get hurt from the padres? No? Soda is

playing like crap, So Manny Machado's not doing well. Who I talked about one? SODA's batting under two hundred although he hit Wait wait wait wait, let's start to the problem begins. You dropped him. I've got both. If you learn anything here at the internship, do not tell him what you're doing with anybody, got it. He'll he'll he'll miss death, He'll kill You'll kill you right here the opposite. So you can get that and you'll

be clear. I'm not. This happens way too often for it to be a coincidence anyway, So uh get they get there, they get their star back, I believe tomorrow Thursday, Thursday night. Yeah, so I supposedly he'll he'll be the lead off here for the pot on Thursday. So he's back. Um, okay, do you like you've seen it? You've seen the the turnover sword that you a football has. They get you know, they take the football and they kill it on the sword. The Mariners.

The Mariners have a home run try, Oh okay, it's gone to Major League Baseball now, well anything, they're most of kids playing anyway, they're twenty two, twenty five whatever, the big gold home run. Tried that. They somebody who who hits a home runs. It's like really and then I'm okay, all right, I just anything the motivate the motives very silly to me. Um all right and then um okay. So uh. Seth Davis from the Athletic did an interview with Bob hus saw that. I saw

Bake said are you retiring sometime soon? And he said no, he's sixty nine. Yeah, he's sixty nine. He sell a lot of wins, nine hundred wins. I think his quote to Seth Davis was, come on, do I look old? I'm having fun, man? Why would you quit a job you have fun? See. I think that he's changed in terms of our perception, the public perception, because everyone says Curs gonna get

eaten up over there, blah blah blah. I don't think so. I think think Cur's gonna thrive because he'll be able to do some of the things. But did you say, do you see later in the story about how he'll do well? He liked Morgantown, right, That's why hwai kere well and the two and a few hundred thousand dollars that he's gonna be right right

right. So, I mean, I look at the at that eighty ninety eight, two thousand and seventeen, UM sweet sixteen that hasn't lost his eighty Okay, West Virginia was there for I sat on on Bob Huggins end of the end of the court for two games, and I was just like, man, he was scary, he was. I think his reputation. I think that's well, that is his reputation. And like you said, maybe he's you know, and maybe he's loosened up because he has to loosen up

because he can't continue to be there. And he's kind of slow because of the heart attack. I think he had a heart attack or something like that. Um, you know, just he is who he is. When he we were talking about there was someone who were in number and when when Simon hit the the three quarter court shot against Cincinnati, he tore up the locker room and through that's that's kind of the guy. That's the guy that we think, are you almost done? Yeah, well, let me tell you.

They told you before the show started that Kim make In, the former UFA basketball player from East who left and transferred to Mexico State. It's part of a part of that which one guy said in the document, in the

court document hazing that that's lightens the load of it was sexual harassment. So he's part of the lawsuit that's going on, which is who who what A couple of the players, A couple of the former players who are going to transfer shooting everybody the border, regions coaches, blah blah blah that it was bad. That was real bad. I've been communicating one day when they kill your season because of it, you know, Yeah, it's it's unbelievable that

this would happen at the college level. You hear about it at the high school level, which it should never happen. But come on, guys, grow up, especially guys who aren't are marginal players. Right. No, absolutely, it's absolutely and you know what, it's just not the time for that. No, of course, that's not the time for that anymore. Lamont Tunley, one of our great splusters and a former Ulate football player. How are you, Lamont? I'm doing good man, I'm doing good though, sitting there on the south side of town and almost fork out about you guys, I apologize, okay, no problem, in problem. We're forgetful kind of guys. It's easy to forget, so we get Yeah, you know, you're very forgetables. I was reminded, you know, all those days that I sit in for you, they said, well, shit,

he's very forgetable. Won't you stay, Lamar, Let's remember you gotta keep it clean. That's true. All right, we're I think I got the dump button in times. I think we're good. So we want to talk about a lot of different things. Lamont. You saw the spring game. I know you saw a lot of the your older friends from back in the day, and then you have something with your brother this weekend. Let's start about Let's start about some of the guys you ran into. Who were you

who were the most surprising guys you ran into? Well, you know, I mean there was a lot of you know, errors of guys. But you know, one the wine guy that that really shocked me when I saw him was Bruce Hill. And wow, you guys, I think, I'm sure Jay, I do remember they've been around for a second. But man, it was so great and they trust me, Bruce, Bruce Hill did.

I didn't play brucill Bruce Hill was before me, right, So when I when I came here as a student athlete, myself as a football player, all I knew about this guy, Bruce Hill, the one two three backfield, and you know, and I was like, man, this is this is unbelievable and um and you know, throughout my my my time at the Arizona always saw Bruce come back. But then for years Bruce would never come back. And so I walked up into the practice and there he is,

Bruce Hill. Man. It was so so great to see him and so delightful to see him and and her his story. He selfed there and give me and Ricky Bide Bear Hug and you know, and and and and and and those are the those are the nice memories and nice wonderful things as far as you know, being a former athlete that you can get and and and and and bring back to be a part of, you know. Naturally.

There was quite a guy that played with me. It was Rat and again the John Baltalls of the world, Um, Kurt, the Jocomos of the world. Um. You know, we went to a couple of events together, played golf light be together, and then of course, you know, just's finishing it off. I sit up there with Bubba Gross and and Greg Turner and Marshawn Gray, Byron Evans, you know the name of two and modern Rudolph. You know, guys you haven't seen in a long time, you know. But it was wonderful, man, it was. It

was just a great weekend all the way around. And I was so so blessed to be a part of it. Wow. Yeah, that was just a whole bevy of names that I just you know, you know, come back to me from you know, those times you know, I was in you know, I got out of college just before you got there. But

Bruce Hill. I mean I was in high school. I was in high school when he was playing here, and that as you said, that one two three backfield, Bruce, Willie Hamilton, Jim Up Church And I've always remember there was this great picture in the newspaper after one of their games. I couldn't remember what game it was, but Bruce Hill is running breaks a long touchdown run and he's running down the field and he's in the middle and number two Willie Willie Hamilton is on one side, Jim Up and he's on

the other side. You see the one two three, and it's a shot from the ends when it's a great photo, And that's next in my mind, you know, from me time that I was, you know, that was when I first really became a hardcore Arizona football fan with him. T Bell was, you know, the receiver on that team. Man. Those things those guys were that they set a tone Bruce Rocket Army Rocket arm for Bruce Hill, right, yeah, you know, And you know, and the thing is, like you say, um, Jay, they said a

tone. They said a tone for me and and and I really never see the guys play live, but you know, when I got here, I saw films on these catch and the and the way they played the game and with passion and fun, right, you know, and they enjoyed each other and everything. And and then you know, once I was here as an afternute myself, they would come back and then they would be a part of

the weekend and you know, make things happen. So it was just the joy that you know, this guy you know, with would just come up to me and give me this big bear hug and you know, embraced me to w he embraced me. So you know that that's that's very that was very flattening for me and very very rewarding for me to be a part of that. So the month anymore today, or the last couple of years at least um, a lot of the alums have come by, come back.

They're welcomed with open arms. And so the spring game is even more so, not some more much about a football game, but a reunion, which which helps with with the feel good moments it does, and you know, and also and allow of these young kids that look at the future, you know, in regard to the futures, what I'm saying is that it gives these kids an opportunity to say that it doesn't end once you're snaps is over

here this university. You know, once once you've got on with your family, maybe had some kids and unlock career, you know, the door is still open for you to come back and be a part of this, not only the campus, but the community too. You know, we we Friday, you know, we have about seventy plus guys out that came and played

golf and played um gofflp that el conquis the door. Um. You know, some guys that probably don't play golf, but they chose to come out to be a part of that and and hang out and enjoy enjoy the team, the atmosphere, atmosphere you know, be around each other and just have fun times. And you know, and and honestly, I have to give

that all the craze to Brandon sanders Man. Brandon's is doing a marvelous job as far as making people want to come back, you know, and be a part of be a part of this program here at the University of Arizona. And and and he's welcome in everybody. I mean, if you if you play the snappie at this university, he wants you back on this campus. Which is awesome. Yeah, no, and that's a great thing about

what he's doing. So we had Chris mccallistern on the Friday afternoon, and uh, you know, I saw he did like a little promo video and I wasn't the only one who said he looks like he could still play. Well, I told that man's body he looked like and feel like you could play. Tell you that guy got the more snaps in here for sure. That was fun to see. So so what did what impressed you the most

from the spring game? What did you notice? Well, the one thing that impressed me the most is basically the confidence that I saw in the offense as far as the guys out there on both sides. I'm talking about one and two just the first teams, but the first and second team players. Um. The number one thing, I just saw the confidence that they showed in themselves, you know, from lining up you know, to to to

actually knowing their players, knowing their assignments normally they need to be. Um. You know, I think the offense, particularly the offense, is going ahead. And I think the particularly the offense, is a much better position that they were last year at this time. UM and and everybody's yelling together,

um as far as a complete unit per se um. So that the end that the thing that the court minds the most by all, which the fact that the confidence that those kids show as soon as they lined up um and and and and and on the line and made things happen to themselves, they there was no hesitation whatsoever. They knew exactly where they wanted to be, you know, where they had to be, and the ball was delivered to him. So you know, you have a you have a lot more

expertise than it's in terms of just what these players look like. Um uh um. Justin Flow walked into the press conference with like a half T shirt on and and you look at his body, you go, holy crap, How does a twenty one year old kid get like that? But there's I mean, it seems to me like there's a lot of that. There's a lot of different The team just looks different, right, you know, the offensive line, it's it's much bigger. Um. They they look much stronger.

Their body composition is different than what it's been in the past. You know, there there's guys that that I I I courred. I look, that's what I call an upside down pair. You know, where your hips are bigger than your shoulders right now that they are fret where the shoulders are important to what their body should be. And when we get offense alignment that particular way in which we do have okay on that end of it, and and and it's and and you know you can get something that love to the

strength coach. And there's also the kids themselves. The kids themselves are dedicating themselves to being in the weight room. The don't care to yourself nutrition wise too, because that's part of the battle. Also, they're eating right, they're eating healthy. Um, They're not doing crazy things with their bodies. And they you know, they got that desire to want to win. Um. And you know, again winning is personal. So that's what Jed is

saying. And these these kids are taken as arm you know, personally, and they trying to make a difference as far as ripped themselves. And then one to one is turning out. We got loving guys becoming one at this

point in time. So you know, they challengeing one another, They challenge you want another to do these things off the field, you know, versus you know, just hanging out on the street corners or with your girlfriend, let's do some things off the field to make yourself a better football player.

So about you talked about the offense looking confident and better. But I think the success of this program is going to lie on the defense because we all know that they can score a lot of points, but they couldn't keep teams from scoring points. And you're absolutely right, Steve, and I still I'm still not confident in our defense. Still, I still think that there's still a couple of players that's missing, um, the guy they have an understanding

of what the defense is doing. Um. And once those couple of players get into play, and hopefully these couple of players are players that again educating themselves or learning the system right now, and then when they get into the uh the some ball of of of camp, then they become turnkey from them. It's not the thinking they're reacting, but there, I mean, there's a couple of guys that still missing on that defense that gotta you know,

show up and in order to make the defense be competitive. I'm not expecting the defense to stop many people see. I'm expecting that the defense to create turtles stay on the sideline and offense score a lot of points, and if the offense score thirty points, we should win games. And I think that's gonna be the mindset. We have to score third points. Keep the defense off the field. You know, defense gotta be the philosophis, let's create

turtles. Let's let's get out there and run havoc and and make things happen, and stay off the field as much as we can. Um. But because the fact that I'm the kind of you know, in some cases, they still a little a little light and not as big as what we expect that we should have. And when I said that, that's I think our linebackers are kind of light in there, and they're short more than anyone else. Um. You know, I think we got a couple of guys that's

that's that from the UCLA and um the kid from from Georgia. UM. I think those two kids does bring some weight on the on the defensive line. Um. But see, we lost the two edge guys. So those edge guys that we got gotta understand what difficul is and hopefully they get that and make a difference there. Do you when you're watching Arizona do you pay closer attention to the linebackers since that was a position you played, you know,

I don't. I think. I think what I end up doing is, well, first of all, I have myself fixed or the defensive line, because you know, Ricky's coaching the defensive line, so I find myself going there first and then then once and once I see what those cats are doing, then I have myself going to the defensive back aspect of things, because you know that's the next level and something's going to happen off that end

of it. You know, unless you know these kids that if the linebackers become you know, players that I think a players that can be impacted players, my eyes will be there and I think my new will be one of those players. Eventually, he's not that player, but he could be that player where I would want to watch him day in and day out. But you know, at this point he's not that the impact player that that's going to force my eyes to say, what this kid is gonna do for us?

Well, well, it's it's something I just learned of which which is I'm fine with it. I'm fine with it. Uh, you know, we're gonna have you know, uh, some some nice crisp vegetables for those that

maybe don't eat this salmon that rick is gonna cook. But we both we both have a tendency of putting ourselves in the kitchen and you know, enjoying the moment in the kitchen and hopefully you're gonna be the steam and before you can be be one of those persons to sample our cookie, I will and don't put one aside because I don't know that has something to do with so you put something extra in that, don't trick. It's okay, it's a hey now that now that I know you're gonna be that, I'm gonna put

Yeah, it's like, why do you want to leave? Right? No, this is one of the reasons why I'm not a sports fan. I watched sports of me, but I'm not fan like you. And it's the constant change of rosters. You know, I

grew up with Cincinnati Red fan. I'm no, I couldn't tell you who's on the roster now because just because you know your Dodgers, because you're I don't know that many of them. So there's a lot of them that I Dodgs. Right, You're not loyal to the people playing for the due I watched. I watched their games pretty much every day. And and what my point is, you follow them, and you follow the Dodgers. Could have been Joe Blow playing for the Dodgers. But to me, it's just like

there's no sense of loyalty. And that changed a long time. I'm going don't saying anything new, but now it's like, you know, what do you want to do, well, let's go play for this guy and basketball or they build these super super teams, right you know, Kevin Durant, right, superstar. How many teams have you been on the right? Four

teams? Now, yeah, four teams. I mean, you know guys like that, you would go to a team and they wouldn't let him go, you know, and they'd want to stay right right, and it's it's crazy. But right now you know basketball again, you know, I mean, I don't know, it's it's it's it's tough, you know what. It also makes it hard for people to have a favorite team, right. You don't have a favorite team anymore. No, No, not at all.

It's because there's no point in because they're gonna either disappoint you or they're gonna who's this guy? Who's that guy? Dallas? You know, I used to be Dallas, keviny live in Dallas. Before I call here, I couldn't tell you anybody outside of the quarterback yea, even then I just lost his name exactly. But everybody else has been Eliot's been gonna let go and everybody really that's part of the problem. Everybody's changing. Yeah, and it's and it does make it hard to be, you know, a family.

I didn't know. It's a new world. And I mentioned I mean Packers fans are going to be like, what the hell when when when Rogers? Rogers leaves right, you know. But if you're a Packers fan, aren't you just go already? You're sick of it? Yeah, you're just tired of come on, enough of this drama. No, you do get sick of these guys. It is a lot of drama.
