This is Eye on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions, Katz R two, SAG and iHeartRadio Station Yet. Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball here, Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. We got Sammy with us. Thank you saman for keeping us in line and we were really ready to go. Hey, you know, thanks for letting us in the door. Yeah, thanks, Well he kind

of didn't want to. It just it could have just been Steve today he've locked us out and then, yeah, we had to begging him. It was all me. It was once Sammy and Jay here. Yeah, exactly. Welcome to one hundred degrees where it feels like it does. Welcome to summer. It's not that hot. It's hot in the shade. It's like, not bad dude, you're talking about what was you talking about? The Yankee guy? He was calling him names. That's what he is. Right

now. You did a month. We're gonna begging for this in July. I don't when the sun goes down. It's nice in the morning, but it's not bad. No, I'm just joking, but it is hot. Hey, welcome, Welcome to Wednesday Show. I think we have a pretty good show. I think so well. I'm going to fill into our lap. We had to chase Well. We're bringing an old friend. And by that, by old, I mean old, old, old friend. Dave

Silver, a former k GUN broadcaster. You can go all the way back to the early eighties when he was doing color for the k gun's uh broadcast of Arizona football before you know the network's you know, butted in UH. So he's been He's been around Tucson for a long time. I've been working working out at the A for a while and told us that he is now retired. But you know, Dave Silver is one of those guys like Brian Jefferies. He's never looked his age and now he's telling us that he's retired.

And I'm like, you know, holy hell, I feel old. Well you are, I know, Steve, but I don't have You don't need to make me feel old, but I am. But anyways, Dave's going to join us. We'll probably be going down memory lane on on some stuff today and and and Steve is somebody who I'm Steve Davis, somebody who I think you know, maybe we'll bring him in as guest hosted some time or too not. I mean, if you need stuff to do, we'll

find him some stuff to do. Right. The last thing you want to do is get retired, and we know about it, right right, right, Yeah, we'll keep you busy. So Dave's going to join us on the at the three fifteen segment, and then in the second hour we got Ada Barnes coming in, uh talk about her players who got into the got into the w NBA draft, talk about the season, talk about the season, talk about what's happening now with player movement and those kinds of things.

We just uh check and see how things are going with the DA right, Okay, No, I look forward to that. A lot of good questions hopefully that we'll come up with. Yeah interesting, Yeah, so yeah, it should be fun. So it should be a good show. Yeah, Okay, what else is ven? Sammy's here today? Mister iron man. Okay, I've been here in the last couple with the iron Man's shirt and my half iron not half iron man, okay, half iron man. We had put a search off for you and you were out and no wonder we

couldn't find you. We were in the l's the last place we'll look golf courses. That place, well, golf course maybe, of course would have been the first first. No, never never said me, and never Kevin and never Stephen, never Jay could have found me in the ocean. Exactly. Who's that guy bobbing up and down? It's a sharking some guy? Yeah, yeah, okay, cool. So looking forward to the show some more, some more football. We have more about ten days of football,

ye till till next Saturday. Yeah, so they got what's today Wednesday? So they'll have a Thursday, Sunday and Thursday Saturday. Then uh right, was it Monday Wednesday? It's not today, so it might be Thursday Thursday. I think they practice two days a week and then three days a week. So the'll practice Tomorrow and Saturday and then Tuesday Thursday and then the spring game next Saturday. Is the Is the spring game always this late? I

know it hasn't been this late. I was gonna say the last couple of years. Early my memories came up, like the first week of April or when it's cooler. Yeah, and you know, and like, for instance, when they said the portal opening you know to April fifteenth, it was the the intent of getting giving teams a chance to get their spring uh spring practice done. Arizona's still practicing, so there's still some guys hanging around who you don't know if they're gonna gonna be here or not. But yeah,

it's uh, it's it's a little late. And when's the when does the portal officially close? It's fifteen days. I think fifteen days, so I thought I was thirty, but give you thirty. I think football right, Yeah, I think this one is fifteen. It could be wrong. And we'll see if anymore Arizona players jump, yeah, and any administrators jump, Yeah, we'll see what I was. We talked about that yesterday. It seems kind of odd, not odd, but one of the administrators leaving who

played here, So I don't want to go back to that. So yeah, this is what it is, people coming and going, the new world of it, you know. I we'll talk to about well and uh, you know, Dan Hurley was on uh uh Dann Patrick Show today and he had some interesting stuff. He just you know, again he's just he's I mean he hates it, but he knows that this is how it is. You know, he's he was recruiting his players, recruiting new players, you know, for the team. He's kind of It's kind of funny because he

Patrick asked him an interesting question. He said, do you think your team could have been your brother's duke team? The best one of the duke teams? At first he laughed, you know, that was a really interesting question. It was, And and then he said, well, he said, we could if we got all our guys back, because to the meaning that the reason Duke won the second one was because all the guys from there, you know, had been kept coming back and they were all seniors and stuff.

So he's saying, if we get all our guys back, yeah, I think I think we can. But it was a funny, funny part of the conversation. Yeah, they could have gotten three pete had Vegas not spoiled that ninety. So anyway, it was, it was it was fun. But you know, again that and that's just what you hear from coaches, and that that's how they have to approach it, right, they have to say I hate I mean, maybe i'll hate it, but this is where I am, and you're just going to keep doing it, and he's

he was good at it last year. He bought in the right people. And in fact, people were saying that it's not with the greatest players, but guys who played well together right right, and you know, and the team had the team had experience, it had age, they were they were men, you know, playing you know, against boys a lot a lot of the time, and and a lot of them too, like Clinging especially, he could have easily jumped ship last year having he didn't play that much.

There was a couple guys on that team that didn't play that much. But it does. It does take a strong personality or a strong person to be like, I'm gonna stay. His team's really good and it paid off for him. Not a lot of guys would have that maturity to just be like, yeah, I like this program, I like the school, I like the coach, and I think a lot of that plays into it.

But also some guys don't know how to accept roles or feat It's like all of a sudden, oh, I didn't get enough minute and now he's gotten Well, no, that's okay, it's all about me, right, It's all now he's going to be an NBA player. Yeah, well he's out to be drafted as an NBA player. Pretty good player. We saw him in front in person for a couple of games, very good. He handled Edi relatively well, but he was you know, both poor fouls is because

he could have yeah strong wise, you know, defensive. So we'll see a good kid too. I spoke some to some to him a bit out at the four. So there there's that. Well, what else is going on? Baseball lost last night? I know you probably had that I was losing. Is a good program. You know they're good program. You should be losing to them because it's because it's yeah, because it's Dallas Baptist.

He's the airport. Airport has a lot of really good places. One of my one of my buddies, airport, you know, you know what I mean. Well, he looks good. He looks good in the airport, looks really good. He's a good player, and he played. I can't swing, can run, can hit, but he was good. This is good. I'm gonna call it the Gunner cruise. He did look like a quarterback, didn't he He had here he were he was like Keanu Reeves and the replacement man. He just he just looked good in the uniform and then

well then then he had to play. He had to play. It wasn't very good. What are you gonna do? What you do with our apologies, Gunner. We know you're doing well wherever, but that's that's how you are. This guy looks really good. He's coming off the bus. Yeah, it looks good. We just fell down. What there? We just did another pick? Yeah? God, okay, okay, anybody want to call please do save us five two o four one six seventy four forty uh. I know a few people were trying to get in to give Jay some

grief on piazza. Yeah, yeah, yeah, well Ryan, he was the guy who tried to call uh, and then we didn't answer his call. We got too like that we did what did say about? What? Well? This is a good one. This kind of before you know, we're talking about what how did that come up? He's a Dodger. He was a Dodger for all this time, and then he got Trey get traded to the mess and you said, in your heart or in my heart,

he's still a Dodger and he will always be a Dodger. Not so much a Met right and somebody who was a Mets fan, well, wait, he won, yeah, you know he won more with the Mets than he did with the Dodgers, which is true, but he was still an do he was Tommy Lesa's gods. I mean, when I think of Mike Piazza, I think of him as a Met. Well, you're full of crap, then, well, because later, well you caught him later. I caught him later here here and here's and this is where where I was coming

from, minding me to tell you a full of crap. No, you are something sure. Where I was coming from was that, you know, my son Adam was a look at and that was his first favorite Dodger. Okay, he had he had a you know, Dodger T shirt with number

thirty one on it and the whole bit. That's what I think about when I think about Mikeiaza, to think about him being a man, it's like Piazza ran around his house like yeah, it's like it's similarly to I mean, of his career is not as long yet, but Paul go his he was fantastic for the Diamondbacks, didn't win an m v P, but then he gets traded to the Cardinals, wins an MVP, and he's probably a little statistically better. But I grew up watching me. He's he's a diamond

back. He's a diamondback, right, you would. But if you asked the St. Louis, if you ask some Saint Louis crowds, they'd be like, oh, like cardinal for life like types. Okay, I'm not. I mean, I'm not just told you become a Dodger, your Dodger. Strawberry is a man, Okay, even though he played for the Dodgers. Eric Davis who came with her, he's a red he you know, I don't consider him like a Dodger. So right right now is Lookie, I was gonna say, what's Mookie and Freddie? Mookie is a Dodger.

You're on the air and eye on the ball. How's it going today, Brian? I look at Mike pi dog. He spent he spent four days with the Marrow, and I think it was something we're gonna we're gonna hang up on. We're gonna hang up on you for that. Okay. Also one thing too, I'm a cardinal person. Golfman is not a he's a he's a diamondback. At what point, at what point would he be the Cardinal? I really don't think he ever could be, unless maybe they win

a World Series, which are not gonna do. But maybe that would be the only way, you know, because I don't think he'll be around much longer, even as a Cardinals, you know, I think by the training deadline he'll be gone. Who's your favorite player all time? Bob Gibson? Okay, and he was with one team, right yeah? Because he hated everybody. He kind of reminds me of Steve it I would I would everybody. I would you right away. But real quick, don't you miss the

days of one player, one team forever? Oh? Court? Well, I mean I missed that in college sports two years ago. Yeah yeah, okay, I mean we'll never see that again in any sport, right yeah, right? Yeah. I mean it's it's said that kids nowadays can't get to know their players like you know, back in I knew sixties and seventies. I knew all the Cardinal players. But you know, I have to look every year to see who's brand new, you know, right, that's

really kind of sad. Yeah, Okay, Brian, don't make us cry. Yeah, Brian, and I love you, Bri. Don't worry about it. Yeah, he doesn't hate you. All right, I'm gonna find I'm gonna find a Marlin Mike Jersey for good. Good luck with that,

good good luck with you. All right. It's like when you when you get a favorite player, then they buy and then they burn it when they like Lero, well, you know, and it was that was around the time that the Diamondbacks, you know, we're here so like and I really just know when when Piazza left the Dodger you know, and that and really just you know, I really started to ease up towards my you know, love for the Dodgers because they didn't like the things they were doing, you

know. You know, it was when the Murdocks, it was a Murdock who bought and they started talking about changing, building a new stadium and getting out and I'm like, you guys, aren't the Dodgers anymore, you know, And and you know, and at the time I was involved with the Diamondbacks to teepe and stuff, and so I really kind of separated away from the Dodgers for quite a while. But he's back, but I'm back and I am back and when they when they start spending money, he's back in

and and Mooki's a Dodger. And Freddy Freddy Freeman's the Dodger, show the Dodger. He might not be a Dodger. You know the sand line in the sand, he moves it a lot. That's okay. He goes to you know what you wish you had? Show hey up and up in Tim up in Phoenix. So don't even who doesn't. But he's a Dodger. This this scan. He just looks so much better in a Dodger uniform than an Angel uniform. He does, he does, really, it really does.

Oh god, the Dodgers have sweet after this love of fair let's school if for breaking and get days, we'll get Dave Silver on into well, I say with rox poetic Yeah yeah, we'll probably going down memory lane on some stuff. See how his job is, you know, because now he can kind of speak freely. Yeah yeah, yeah, okay, all right, so we'll be back with Dave Silver. The window Depot has everything you

I'm Steve Bavera and he's Jacin's aust So I don't if I only have Dave Silver, former Channel Line Sports guy head anchor Sports anchor and former You a funnizer. How you doing today? Good? I've I've finished up two careers here in the last few years, so it's kind of a fun time a few years. I think Jay brought this

up before we got ahold of you. You've been around since the mid eighties. Yes, I got here in nineteen eighty three, So I always tell the story that I arrived literally as Loodolson's first season was starting in eighty three. Oh okay, because where I remember you from initially is that you were the colored guy for the k Gun's broadcast of like you have a football and stuff? Right, Well, how many years did you do that? Yes, that was eighty five eighty six. I did the last two years that

k GUN had the contract and then that was it. I've never done colored commentary since then. I don't think. Wow, maybe maybe maybe baseball here and there, but nothing regular. Yeah, yeah, So okay, So let I mean we want to go too deep into the you know, your your time and stuff, but I mean, how does it feel. You said, it's been a couple of weeks now, the early days. What are you doing? You know? You said You've been keeping busy, but busy doing what. Yeah, you know, I've I've I've gotten it into

a couple of hiking clubs. Believe it or not, I've never really experienced and enjoyed some of Tucson's outdoor stuff, especially in the mornings. There's a couple of groups I've been involved with. I know it's not the most exciting thing in the world, but Tucson is so beautiful and this time of year is great to be out there, so I kind of lucked out timing wise with that. I've been asked to join a couple of you know, a

couple of boards, a couple of committees. Some people from you know, from our past, from media have kind of gotten into these types of jobs and they've they've reached out. They know that I'm out there and that I, you know, I want to do stuff that I never really had time to do before. Yeah, is there an uber option on these hips? Yeah. I don't believe it or not. We did. We did a I don't want to get too deep into it, but we did a walk

through town last week that lasted three hours. It was it was unbelievable. I mean it was I can't believe I did it, but it was. It was fantastic. You know. The only the only place that I can walk for that long this is a bridge, is Disneyland. That's it. If if you you know, if you told me go walk just right now, get out of your chair and go walk how much you walk in a day at Disneyland, I would say, no, I'm not I can't do that. But you know, yeah, So and you just took a walk

through town, I mean where to where it was? It was. It was gorgeous. We went from right around Banner Hospital, up Campbell up to campus, straight through campus, I mean right down the mall, all the way past the old Main, continued on all the way to University to Fourth Avenue, down forth into downtown, you know, up and around through downtown and all the way back. I mean it was like three hours. I think I was over seventeen thousand steps something like that. So it was it

was a good, good walk. So I'm doing a little of that and again just reeking out to people around town to see what's going on. I've had a few meetings here and there, and so it's you know, it's just kind of a different, different way of spending my time. And most recently you were doing some fundraising for I don't know what college. You can't remember what college. Yeah, so it was with a College of Social Behavioral Sciences FBS. And shout out to everybody over there who were they were just

terrific. In fact, I went to an event last night where we honored some of our scholars had been award of scholarships from our donors in SBS. But the dean, Lorie Pony Stoddinger, is relatively new to the UVE, and she she's been great and everybody kind of understood, you know, my feelings. But you know, I was there in that college for about six years, and before that, I was at the u of a foundation raising money for anybody any any area of the university who was interested in giving back.

So I did that in total for twelve years after leaving Kaguan. How what kind of a sports fan have you been since you left that part of the business and left that part of your your career behind. Kind of like average sports fan like everybody else, or you know, big yo a fan. Uh, you know those kinds. Did you ever separate yourself from what you did as a as a as a reporter in this town? I guess in terms of just doing the job. Yes, but I mean as far

as being a fan, I mean I was. I've been as strong as a fan as I think I've ever been. You know, even before, you know, when I was on television, I wasn't really supposed to be rooting things like that, but you know now I was. Even you know, as I was working for the UVENT, I was certainly you know, behind the teams and keeping track of everything, and you know, there's just

so much to so much to see and so much to read. Even you know, since I left television, and you know, you know, you guys with your websites and and the blogs and the podcast there's there's a lot to listen to, lots of read, lots of lots of digest So it's it's been fun. And you know, not just at the local level, just everywhere. There's just so much information out there. And I've always been kind of a you know, a news hound and it's never going to go

right. Yeah, I'm always interested in what's happening. And you you left, uh, I don't want to say a little before all the changes, but maybe you could comfortably before all the changes of limited access tougher to get stories tell for to tell us stories. So you must have been grateful for that definitely, And I've heard you guys talk about that too, And that's one thing that I do not miss in terms of not having access. I mean, you remember how easy it was to talk to the players back in

the day, and those are the great stories. That's how we got our That's how we set ourselves apart from each other, too, is that Steve would have a story of jol have a story and I have a story all different. It seems like everybody, right, yeah, well you have to kind of kind of have to work it that way. I unfortunate that's gone

that way, but I don't think it's ever going to go back. No, No, they you know, there's again that everybody just wants to have too much control over what's you know, what's being said to them because you never you know, you never know who's gonna jump out on social media and say something or whatever. I mean, that was always the case, right You talk to somebody and they're gonna say stuff, and then you're gonna go, oh, I wish he hadn't said that, but it was out there,

and there was anything you really did about it. But that's what kind of made all those stories real. But you know what, Jay, we talk about that now, but I don't I don't remember a time. Maybe Gilbert, maybe Gilbert Arenas when he was here, you know, he would say something kind of crazy and I would be upset. But it's very rare. It was rare when the student athlete would say something crazy and used to and they say, well, you know, we wish you hadn't said that,

Dave. I don't think you probably experienced that. No, I mean, they are pretty buttoned up. You knew that they were getting, you know, advice if you will, you know, from Lout or from you know, Dictomy or Larry Smith, whoever the coach was. Jerry Kendall was terrific with the media in that way, but he knew that they were kind of being guided as to, you know, what we should and shouldn't say. There was always just something especially about getting somebody one on one and having

a few minutes with them. That doesn't seem like it happens too much anymore. Maybe in the postseason tournaments it looks like there's some of those opportunities after the big news conferences, but otherwise, you know, there's just not much access. Yeah, no, and I mean and that's the way it was. So so let me go back to the question though, So just a fan, you know, go send seats of U of a games? Uh?

You know, do you do? You do you find yourself looking at a game as you would looked at it as a reporter or anything like that. Probably more than I should be if you will. You know, sometimes I'm watching the game and I'm thinking, oh my gosh, what are they doing? And I'm trying not to be and I'm sitting with friends and I'm trying not to be a reporter and ask you know what, you know,

what the strategy was here? But no, I've I've gone to a lot of games, and probably not as much, probably not as much as I used to, But I'll go to a handful of basketball games, both men and women, Baseball, yeah, football, you name, it's I mean, it's it's here, and it's it's great now to kind of have some freedom to just kind of pick and choose what we want to do. Did you And I know I've had you on the show before. I don't know if we've been on the show with they came and did a guest host.

Okay, so maybe he's been on a couple of times. I may have asked you this. There was there a point when you left and you've been gone, what maybe fifteen years now from the industry. Uh that that you said, You know what, I do miss it a little bit or even a lot. I've always kind of told the stories that I really missed the big moments. I'll never not miss that. I mean, as I'm watching the NCAA tournaments and bowl games and big football matchups or whatever, I'll miss

that, you know, the day to day. I kind of did that for a long time and that's kind of just what it was. But I do, you know, I'll always miss kind of being there for the big moments and being able to experience that. Maybe now is a in my position. Now I'll have even more freedom to just kind of pick, like long ago, to a College World Series if the Wildcats make it, or Oklahoma City or something like that, or just go to the bowl game when they go as a fan. So that'll be fun to be able to do that.

I noticed you didn't mention Final Four in there, because because we just don't know when that's gonna happen. Yeah, I know, I cannot. I just can't believe it when I you know, it's it seems so fresh, but kind of spend what twenty three years, it's unbelievable that that's being said. I'm gonna ask him the proverbial question for I on the ball Arizona basketball blue Blood? No, maybe maybe what's below blue? I don't know, I don't Are they still still you gotta be one first now, I

know. Yeah, but you know they're gonna still include Kansas and teams like that that have also kind of had glitches in the last few years. Kentucky obviously they've won some titles in the last ten years. True, but I mean, you know, it's hard of just believe that, like Yukon has been this good. Really, I know they've had they had the Jim Calhoun years, but to be still this good all these years later, that's pretty remarkable for Yukon. Yeah. Yeah, no, I I gave it.

I've given up on the argument they you know that we had one and we have I mean, yeah, we're having it pretty often, but you know they're close. But you're right, I mean, twenty three years since just being in the last final four in twenty six, seven seven, twenty seventh since the last championship. Yeah, it's hard to it's hard to it's hard to make an argument for them, uh being in there. But I don't know, uh, Dave, so we all know about the money situation there.

How how involved was athletics in your real job? And I'm sure that if athletics was doing very well, your job was a little easier because it became the front porch to the university. Definitely, definitely did. There were so many examples of situations where I would I would go on a trip based on if there was gonna be a game in town. So I used to

travel quite a bit to Seattle, into Oregon and LA. So I would sometimes just try to sync up, you know, a weekend, say go to Seattle and get there on a Thursday and we'd be playing on a Saturday and do visits with alumni. And yeah, definitely, when the teams do well, there's there's definitely, you know, a component of the alumni base really big sports fans no matter what. They may not be giving back to the U of A that much, but they're supporting the team that way.

So when when when you're in that job do you. I mean Steve kind of asked it, you know, how much does that athletics play a party? But you know, does the same when it's not going well, right, when you're going through a Kevin Sumlin period or John Mackovic period, that support you know, and and and how much hearder does it become? Yeah, I don't, you know, it's it's it's hard, but there's there's only certain things that I can even answer, you know, and that even

I even know about. Fortunately I missed the uh the Macovic. I think I was still working during the Channel nine but yeah, I mean, I'll give you an example. I mean I was I was in Corvalles the weekend the whole Sean Miller story kind of broke open. So there he was coaching Arizona Oregon State, and then the next day he next two days later, he was not coaching the right Eugene. So I mean I was literally on a Donor visit with people that weekend when all that happened. So it's top

of mind. I mean, that's the first thing people want to talk about, right, So it's definitely definitely prompt definitely, you know, when when the news is big, they definitely want to talk about it. Yeah, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt. We only have like two minutes left in the meantime. Will be by you. We'll have you on a lot, probably the summer, because you know how summers are in Tucson. Biggest stories that you missed, so you covered and you you know, wish

you could do it again. I wouldn't, you know. Obviously winning the championship in ninety seven and still I think going to be at the top of the list. I was lucky to be with the Diamondbacks and two thousand and one for that, I was lucky to be at some couple of Super Bowls and the finals. There were so many good memories that I have and they're still etched in my mind. And I can still remember interviewing Michael Jordan where

they the Sun, you know, thirty years ago now over thirty. Yeah, you know, there were a lot of a lot of great moments, and I was really fortunate to, you know, thankful that Kagan, you

know, gave me those opportunities all those years. And that's kind of why I stayed was that, you know, I knew there was going to be something around the bend just about every year, especially with the U of A. But then to mix in some of the some of the big stories that happened in the States and to be part of that was really really terrific. Yeah, all right, Dave, well again, uh, you know, enjoy, stay busy. We'll see you. One of us will see you

back and forth because when I leave, he'll need you. Don't don't be having dinner at three o'clock in the afternoon, and you know, just no tapioca, all that stuff. I'm looking for all those early birds specials like that, you know. Yeah, you know, well, you know, you know, Senior citizen discount at the movies in the grocery store on Wednesday, so you know, do that. Yeah, I've got I've got my ARP card. We'll be we'll be pulling that thing out every once in a

while, exactly. So Silver here, dear Silver, yeap up next. Okay, all right, Dave, Hey, thanks about man, it's good to talk to you. We'll do we'll talk again, Okay, thanks so much. So. Yeah, he's one of he's a Brian Jeffers kind of guy. He still looks like he I mean, the hair is a little gray, but he still looks like the guy he did, you know, thirty years ago, and he wasn't one of the guys and we know who they are. Uh, that was a TV guy who was kind of like

crazy out there. Yeah, no, he was. He was just a real steady, straightforward professional, good reporter. Yeah, you know, you got good stories, you know from from his stuff. Understood the community really well and which is probably why you know, he did a good job in the jobs he had since then. Just one of the good guys in town. So it's good to talk to him. Yeah, okay, all right, let's get our break. We're going to come back. Would love to

Steve Rivera and jaygn Salez they have their Eye on the ball on Tucson Sports Stig Jef Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I heard radio waw hey, welcome back to Ie on the Ball here,

Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve, He's Jay. We got Sammy with us today thirteen minutes. If you guys want to call, we've already had a couple of calls from one call at least. Yeah, Brian, Yeah, yes, Brian. I'm like, you know, that's an interesting conversation we were having. Is like, okay, when is a guy from a

team no longer from that team and from another team? Right? You know, cause like I was having this talking about this the other night, saying, okay, Joe Montana, he's a forty ninetyeesy right, you know, uh, well Jim Young Young Steve j Steve forty nine PM Smith, Im Smith's a coboy, right of course? Yeah? What about Peyton Manning?

Okay, that's when trying to come up to pay name. I think he's a he's a cult, but depends, well, it depends what you talked to in this one, because if but he's definitely, but if you talk to someone in Denver, you're like, oh, he's wrong. They want him to Yeah he's a cult, Yeah, but he is, he's personally Tom Brady asked Tom Brady this, yeah, yeah, but but that but but you know there's and then you know you go, you know, okay,

what's Lebron have? He's a calf That's what Least said yesterday. Right. This conversation gets a lot harder when you talk about like college people. Now, like you ask you ask us, is Caleb of atarhoo or a wildcat? He's a tar? He he's a hell if he comes back this year and they do something great, he's then Yeah. And and DeAndre Ayton is persona non grata. He's nothing. He's nothing. He's nothing to me, just like some of those other Ring of Honor guys Josh Green, Naji

Stanley Johnson, Jared Bayless, who else is up there? That's about right, you know, it's about right that those guys are. Those guys are. That's tough because they didn't have well this is on them that they decided

just to go. And I think that's hard too, because you have you have guys like Jason Terry that like when you think about U of A guys you in the last what six years, you could probably only name five like, oh, these are like our guys like that were super important for the U of A were great, And moving forward, you're not going to be able to have a lot of You're not gonna be able to say that about a lot of people. No, not anymore, not with this this chance

for stuff. No. Yeah, the Bibby, well Bibby was for two Jason Terry miles. But baby stuck baby was for two and he won championship. Let's take this hi you're on the air and I on the ball. Hello, guys, haven't called for a little while. Yes, we thought we lost you because the Suns had lost you. Oh okay, Howard, Okay, Howard. The Sons have They finished seven to three and they had the off his last ten games of anyone. They beat the most teams since

the All Star Break, but they had nineteen wins. Okay, how do we want to bring We want to bring you in on a conversation. We were just having Charles Charles Barkley. Is he a son or a sixer? You know what they're gonna have to say sixer and and like Brian said, you can say something funny and say he was a rocket, right right right? I think he's a sixer sixer. He had to win a championship with the Sons. What were you born? So he so he was already there

six years by the time you were born. Yeah, son, Steve Nash Averick the Sons are Gonnah the man. Well that's that question to how Howard is Steve Nash's son? Er and Maverick? You know what, he actually has to be a son because he's got to VP's with them. And it's just like Mark Cuban didn't sign him, and you know who's the other guy just recently he should have signed Who's one of the I have to stay in

the league Brunson. Oh my gosh, what a mistake. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, Howard, do you want to call him for something? Yeah, you want to talk about Did you want to talk about your sons or what? Oh? Yeah, well, I mean I'm pretty excited they're they're a sixth seed. But uh, you know it's at the end of the year, the Golden State Warriors, and that's that's to me team. Steve doesn't have a team, but by default, since he loves Steve Kerr, that's sort of his team. Yeah. No, Steve's team is

whoerever he bet on. No, I don't bet on NBA, and I don't bet on anybody this years. Last year, though, didn't you he did. Yes, he puts a little bit of money. Who's going to maybe win the championship of well shorter odds or whatever. No, I do I do this in January or or or in November. I didn't do it this year. I didn't feel any anything for it this year, So I'm already I'm not really overlooking Minnesota. But I'm looking forward to the play the

Joker. And when we beat them two times in Denver, they didn't have Murray, so you can't really I'm not sure they're going to get past Minnesota. Yeah, well, I don't like that vibe. That's because Steve goes at one time during the season, he goes, well, Minnesota is the best team by record, but there they ended up in the what is it? Third seed? They're gonna, They're gonna, it doesn't matter. They're on mashon here. The son's the biggest problem the whole year. They don't

really have a leader. Booker and Durant are not a leader. Wine, let's put some there here here badly. Beal is starting to be the leader of the team. And that's if you watch any of the games. So that's what they need as a leader. Are you trying to convince me or what are you trying to tell me? No, I'm just saying Jody Yadler, Jody the other yesterday, he was great, but he doesn't watch him as close as me, just because he talks about him. I've watched almost

every minute. Okay, so you after this series, you call in and apologize or all sat Howard, you were right for the last time exactly. We'll call on and we'll we'll we'll prognosticate and break down the next series. All right, thanks for listening to you. He hadn't call it in a while. Okay, So you think you think Barkley's a son solely because I was born and raised a Suns fan, And when you think about all time sons, Charles Barkley is one of the first two or three names mentioned.

And I think if you think about all time sixers, you go Doctor J, you go Alan Iverson, and I don't think he's mentioned in that realm as a sixer, as he is a son. And this is like taking my son fandom away. I think when you just look out from a basketball thing, their sense, I think he's a son. What were you born ninety nine? Where were you born? Phoenix? Okay, there's you're you're eliminated from the jury pool. Oh yeah, I agree, I agree,

But I think it's it's a lot because this show is in Philadelphia. He's a physical, He's a sixtion with Doctor J and Moses Malone, all these guys. That's where he started. That's where But the thing with the thing with that is Sixers basketball. Hi, you're on the Aaron Iron the bell. Hey guy, what's up this vin Vick? What's going on? I kind of wanted to stay on the topic and okay, just tell you it's

kind of just so weird. You know, back in the day when you guys are both writing, you actually knew Sean All or felt like you knew him, like you knew Steve Kerr personally. And nowadaves, you can't even buy a T shirt of a jury the year or whatever you're right, nor do you want to right. It's it's like, yeah, you get a jersey and they're not even there next year. Yeah. I'll tell you a story. My daughters cried when Russell Martin went free agency. We went to

a million Dodger getting. They actually cried tears. They were little, and they couldn't they couldn't understand why he left. I barely remember that guy. He was hardly a Dodger. He was a Dodger. No, Russell Martin was a Dodger for a few you know, Yeah, I mean I know I remember. But also that was during that period that I was telling you that it was like the Dodgers were kind of So is Piazza a Dodger or a met He's a man, a man, and you're a Dodger guy.

Right, Yeah, I'm a Dodger guy. But he left us too, and then had some bad blood and talked a little bit of grab. They actually don't even have a bobblehead or or have him inducted into their stuff. All right, he's only been a Dodger for like a few months. To show, hey, a Dodger or an angel, I would, I would Dodger, and to exactly, he did nothing wrong. He's a victim. He's a gosh. Okay, I'm feeling sick from this Dodger love. But I can still buy a shan Alley a jersey and I'm proud of it.

There you go, There you go, hey man, thanks about you, man, taculator. I guess we'll give victory trophy participation trophy. It's too funny. I love that. I love that, all right? Okay, who else I was thinking? Jim Plunkett, you don't know, Yeah, but he wasn't the raider Patriots. Patriots came up. He came in with the Patriots. Oh, he came in with the Patriots as I would have

never known that. I don't think. No. Yeah, quarterbacks in my day, you know, they were all together, you know, Starbach married. If all these guys were on one team, one team, who can him in a quarterback to with with the with the Cardinals to corner Carson Palmer. Carson Palmer, he's a Bengal Okay. I'm at the stadium final at the Final four yeah, okay, and I'm like, he's up What the

hell is Carson Palmer doing up in the Ring of Honor? Because we went to two I think two NFC championship games with him, NFC Championship game, one game from the Super Bowl, one game from the Super Bowl we went to we went to at least one with him, and we were going Google, I can't but we were going to and then he broke his finger and we had to start Ryan Linley and we got crushed by the Panthers. I couldn't even tell you who Ryan Lindley exactly. That's okay. I saw his

name of there, like, what the hell is Palmer was? What? Ye was that? Because Warner took him what fifteen years ago? Whatever? Warner on nine? Okay, Okay, chas Ago. We lost. We won the Super Bowl, but we just didn't get the trophy and homes. It's one more less. You're on the Aaron in the ball Yeah, Hi, I have a different twist to your ball players and there in the in the ball team I think, I mean, I'm gonna date myself. But I think of players like Manny Kolpak with the Dodger, Bob Gets in the

Cardinals and other guys. When I think of him, like Barry Bonds, I think of big head. When I think of when I think of Mark McGuire, I think of old runs, a steroids. I don't so much put them with the team or a jersey on their back. Guys Mike Piazza, he's a great player. I don't see him as a Dodger. I see him as a great catcher. Okay, just a different quest. What about it? Fair enough, he'll give you your name. Here's Pete Rose. Oh yeah that's but he also did the and he played with the expos

Even I can tell you that. Yeah. Yeah. Also think of a gambler Rogers exactly exactly. All right, great, good good stuff. Those were those are some good Really enjoyed your interview. With Dave. Oh, thanks so much, thanks so much. So, I guess you've been around for a while, being that you brought up Cofax and Marshall. Yeah, date himself. Hey, thanks much for calling. We appreciate its. Hey, we got this old man old and we got it nailed down too.

And think about Marshall. Okay, he's a giant. Yeah, he played for the Dodgers at one point. Well, at the end of his career, Willie May's giant went to the match. Well, is is Bonds a giant or a pirate? See so you're not close enough to know. I don't know. He's dead to me is what he is. But I do you think he should not be in the Hall of Fame? I do not.

He's throwing his headphones. He's throwing the headphone. Stayed for an hour and we got breaking news after this breaking news, not breaking board here. Oh my, okay, we gotta go all right, we gotta get out of here again. Uh. We got Adia Barnes coming up at about four to twenty. We'll talk to her about her season and then her players who got into the w NBA draft. In the meantime, Sammy will be back with breaking news. Here at the top of the hour. Stick around
