This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services. Hey, sure, your most prized possessions, katc R two side and iHeart Radio STA yet very welcome everybody, Good afternoon. This is Steve Rivera, you're jagon zoas and welcome to them all here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Jay, I have one thing to tell you. What in the world a prime time is going on in the

world. You know what. I don't know if I should say this right out of the shoot on this, but you know what, Sun letters to you. I'm already sick of him. I'm already sick of him because go ahead, and I'm gonna jump in and go Okay. I was kind of rooting for him on Saturday, even though I had TCU. I'm like, this is spectacular what we're watching, unbelievable what we were watching. But then you know, and prime time is prime time. He is who he is.

He's a personality, he's loud, he says what he says, and I understand all that about him. But in the aftermath, okay, sure, just all the stuff that he's done after that talking out of one side of his face and saying something else and all this stuff, and it just it bothers me when people have success and think they can do and say anything right, right, And I get the I get what you're saying. But let me ask you a couple of quick things. Uh didn't use Okay?

You have TCU right, Okay, didn't you say that they go over three three and a half We talked eventually you have to be convinced that. So I had him over, I over just for whatever reason that. Did you see the whole entire press conference? No? I hadn't until I saw it today for for something I'm doing, And I'm thinking, it wasn't that bad, you know how this pieces on it and it looked bad. It wasn't as bad, but it was still bad. It was young. But he

is who he is, right, he is Sean McCarver. Back in the day the World Series, was it mccarm timccarter remember when he got dumped because he had been critical of of of Dion back in the day and Dion dumped the water on him in the in the locker room. He's not great for criticism, obviously. He works very hard to be who he is. We get that, but even stars like him are immune from it. Well, here, here's here, here's the bottom line. Will bother me? Okay,

he's t we got receipts. You know he's calling He calls out, you know, a reporter he said, who he said wrote something bad about him? And the reporter is not a writer, he's a TV guy. Edwarder and ESPN who happened? Edwarder didn't write anything, you know, not in a tweet. He called him a celebrity head coach, which is what he is, and maybe that's what he didn't like. But he never said I didn't believe in you. He never criticized, He never said you're gonna

suck. Nothing like that. All he called called him a celebrity thing and made a comment about the team that he's trying, he's turning over the roster. He was. He was not critical of him at all. He calls him out of the news conferences. I saw the bull junk that you wrote. He didn't write anything, okay, and then wait a minute, so then and then right after the right after the game, on the field, he's talking about we got receipts, yaw, And then yesterday in his press

conference, he talks about how none of that bothers him. I don't listen to it. It doesn't bother me. You know you, guys, I don't care what you guys say. Sure, it's all bull crap, and I hate I hate guys who do that. Sure he does. He's exactly that guy. But you know what, you know what he's done. We're here talking about it. Well, he started up. He's right up. And you might want to include more wins for Colorado might well and less for

some teams in the Pac twelve. Who knows they're better than people. Look, they looked like a football team. They got guys, I couldn't believe. I went over and we talked about a week or two, three weeks ago. Because he is who he is. He's a heck of a motivator. He's kind of inspiring if you listen to him, just kind of say what he says. But he went reverse on Saturday because he had a point to prove, apparently to people. But just as easily as you win could

go to the other Well, that's it. Look and and they're they're they're coming up against Nebraska. Look, they're going into the weekend. They were already a like a two point underdog or four point underdog to Nebraska. Now they're a five point favorite. I get it. People saw we saw what we saw. But let's not forget that. We don't know how good TCU, how bad, because that's a factor. Who you play matters at every level, at every level, right, so we don't know what TCU is.

Nebraska looked bad on Saturday, but Nebraska still Nebraska. Matt Rules a good coach. Maybe they show up, you know, they come back backs against the wall kind of thing. So you know, I mean, there's already people out there saying that that Sanders and Hunters should be up for the Heisman because guys, they played one shrinking game against a possibly bad team because he said that. Yeah, I get it, And they're just not used

to see this right away, which is fine. I mean, come on, one time, my girlfriend asked me to ask a girl to dance, and she said yes. All of a sudden, I was a ladies man. Uh not to say the second and third one said no, I don't think so, you know what I'm saying, It just happens. We'll see, it's gonna be even a better season in the Pac twelve because we get to see these teams come in and play each other, including Colorado, which which I'm sure you adam as a as a way that that yeah, that's

not that. You can't mark that in pen as a as a win right now, which is gonna be great for both of everybody. Yeah, maybe maybe it's it's interesting. It's fun to watch, but you know, I kind of I'm old school a little bit even tho. I get sick. I get sick of guys, you know, who do well and then start pointing the finger at them. Well where you're you are, what you are, sixty four, sixty five, I'm sixty almost sixty old school. I

get both sides. I like it, but I don't. I'm sure your kids friends and your kids are saying, yes, yeah, talk all the crap you want, So I don't know it makes for a good story. It's well, it certainly was the talk of the weekend for sure, that's question and that and that's fine. You know, I'm okay with that because it should have been the talk of the week. What they did was unbelievable,

you know, what they did was was unfreaking believable. I kept thinking that you know that TC was gonna get its act together and win the game. And they kept they took the lead a couple of times, and it was a great It was incredible. It was a great game to watch. Yeah, and they said the last man standing, and they were the last man standing. Fun they were more talented. One of the things that I heard before the game a Friday maybe on another show where well they got maybe

they got some good players, but they're they're not. They haven't been together for a long time. You're playing football. Isn't this to do your job business? If you do your job, all the pieces fall together they're supposed to, because that's what that's the way it's mapped out. This is not a corporate world where you where you have these people where you have to do interchanging parts or whatever. No, this is a team. If you play well and you've got a lot of good players, it should work. It

should work. Yeah. And the funny thing about it, a lot of schools are gonna be like this. Arizona was one of them. And here we are talking about Colorado when we saw a game against Arizona on a scale of one to ten, Jake, because you sitting there for the whole game, and I wrote about it. I was, I was mixed on what I saw. If it was a scale of one to ten, I had seven maybe yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, I was underwhelmed. I texted you that I was that I was way less than impressed. That's

the word. I was way less than impressed. At halftime, they're up, you know, fourteen to three. Yeah, you know. And then but then I looked at the you know, because I go to that the stat broadcasting and I look at the stats and stuff, and I saw Arizona had the ball four times. Sure, so you know that what bothered me was that last seven minute drive that that any you had at the end of

the half. They held the ball for seven plus minutes at the end of the second quarter, and I thought, the defense can't allow that to happen. They to get the ball. The Arizona should have had the ball twice in that seven minutes, right, So, you know, so I was very underwhelmed. But then, you know, come around the second half and I thought they dominated them the way you would have expected them to dominate them for four quarters instead of two quarters. But your what your tition mouth had

already started doing. Yeah I wasn't, you know, But as I as, I as the as the night went on, and then the next day, and I'm you know, reading stuff, and I went and went back and watched part of the game and stuff like that, and I kind of thought, why why are we unhappy or why are we criticizing them for thirty eight to three win where the other team didn't rush for a hundred yards,

didn't get three hundred yards of offense. You know, they blocked up, they blocked a kick and ran it back for t I mean, all these things that they did. When you look at the big picture, they did what they were supposed to do. Did they put a forty up on them? No, But you know they did a couple you know, they had a couple mistakes, a couple of turnovers, but you know it didn't look like a thirty eight to three game. And that I guess that's the thing,

you know, why you were a little disappointed. Your your eyes didn't deceive you, and your expectations did because we all had this expectations that one they're gonna kicked her, but because of what happened two years ago, purposely, Yeah, that didn't happen until the end because they were still trying to score points. They're throwing dinking, dinking or whatever. Uh, and they just didn't show up to do that. But and that's fine. They won

the game and they're fine. It just kids, you breaves you a little doubt right now, a little just enough to think that one first. I you know, I'll be more even more surprised now if they go off and beat the Yeah, and beat us. But let me t J. We don't know how. We have no idea how good Mississippi State is. We have no idea, so and we don't know much about anybody exactly. That's kind of the point thing, because Colorado you don't know. But go ahead,

we should. We should get to at least be the first. Wait, let's take our guests real quick. Yeah, Anthony Jimino got him out of retirement, yes, man, as he says, they dipped his tope back in the pool. He's back in the sandbox with us. So we got him for three fifteen, three seventeen, and then I'm not moaning on the other side to talk more about the PAC twelve thirteen and oh but who they play again? I know, well again they've you know, they've got

some non a bunch of non par five wins. On the other hand, the SEC went one and three against Par five teams. So who knows but there but Steve. Every year they lose one or two of these games in the first weekend, right, well, it would have been the floor, you know, somebody they lose to, you know, you know Cal State, San Louis Obispo or somebody like that, Portland State in the first weekend.

Every year. They didn't do that. This this is this is their way of saying goodbye to the PAC twelve with a finger and it's saying number one all right. Uh uh. Jed Fish had his press conference yesterday. Since we weren't here yesterday, we're playing it today. But yeah, pretty long, long kind of introduction. Uh. In the press conference, it's basically summarizing the game and looking ahead. Did Mississippi State. Here's what Jed

had to say. Yes, I'm looking back at the way our team played after watching the film, I would say, once again, we had some opportunities. We only had four drives in the first half. It was a strange game. I think it was nine possessions total. We wound up scoring on six of the or five of those possessions. It's a It was a strange game. The new timing certainly speed things up a little bit. So by far, I mean we averaged nine yards a play, which I think

it's like fifth most in the country at this point in time. But we only had fifty some odd plays, so offensively we were efficient. We did a nice job. We avoid two turnovers in the red zone and could have made for a great day. Of course, you can't avoid those unless you hold on to the football, you don't scramble and unnecessarily taking hits, and we just really missed on the throat to Team Mac. We just left it a little bit behind him and he spun around and probably want to stay in

front of the corner in that case. Defensively, I would say without question our defense communicated fantastically well played with great effort. We need to not have five penalties that are personal fouls. We talked about that as a staff. Whether it be the unnecessary roughness on a punt, whether it be an unsports with light conduct with a shove late, whether it be too roughing the passers, or whether it be a targeting. We just can't have those plays.

That is not going to work against an SEC opponent this week, So we have to be more discipline there. But in regards to being challenged to be more physical, they were being challenged to run to the ball, they were fantastic. Being challenged to play with great effort, they did that. And being challenged to become elite communicators. They're working very hard at that as well. Great field goal block by tie tie and returned by Tacio. We spent

a lot of time working those and that was fantastic in teams. So when you look at overall, you can't have a holding penalty on a return, we cannot have a roughing penalty. But for the most part, I think all three phases played at a high level and gave us a chance to win. But now we are on to Mississippi State, certainly a very tough opponent. I think that coach Arnett has done a great job defensively over there. Now as the head coach, I'm sure he'll continue to do a great job.

But the defense is the defense. Saw them play against Southeast Louisiana. They are tough to move the ball on. He knows exactly all the answers to the test. You could tell he's been in that defense for a very very long time, either running it, coaching it, being a ga in it, whatever it might be. He is an expert in that defense. So we got to work cut out for us there. Not seen much of their offensive film yet, I do understand that they ran the ball for three

hundred yards. I do know that they're a little bit more balanced of an offense than they have been in the past. And we'll have our work cut out for us there. And we're excited about the challenge. We're excited about going down to Starkville. I've only been there one other time. It's not a pretty sight. When I was there, it was a We got beat pretty bad at the University of Florida that year. Coach Jackie Chryl put hers

up, put it on us that day. So we got to have a better day than that and know that the cow bells will be out and we'll be ready for him the best we can. Okay, let's take a break and then we'll talk more about it with Anthony. He was at the game and ourselves. Yeah, and he actually had more to say about the cow bells That would be kind of fun. But Yeah, Anthony Jaminell coming up

right after the break, so I'll stick around. I gotta think I am over them both double set up there for me? Yeah, I told him. I told the jay the story about the book last

time last week. You know I was looking for a good writer. Well I'll get Yeah, Well, welcome back to the sandbox, Anthony. Are we here? You're you're coming back to play with us a little bit. It's kind of interesting, is you guys. Maybe some other folks know. I've had a you know, I got myself a regular government job for the past three and a half years, so I haven't really been playing in the

sportswriter biz game. But the good folks at phn X Sports called a couple of months ago and and it kind of tested the water as they have in the last couple of years, and said, hey, do you want to come freelance for us? And I'll tell you I don't I don't know why, but for this maybe it was because all the realignment stuff. It's fact that you know the team there's only teams right now are kind of interesting. But I didn't say no, and then we got ourselves to a yes.

So what I'll be doing for them is probably writing a couple of stories a week and some sort of news letter thingy kind of to be determined yet, but yeah, you'll go. You'll be able to find me at least a couple of times a week at gophn x dot com. Well, we're looking

forward to that. It's nice to have you back. And it's a free it's free most of the I don't know what I don't honestly, I don't know what the newsletter status is. I don't know if that's going to be you have to butcher in your email to get it, or if there's a cost associated with it. But almost all the stories will be free, all right, Okay, get that old dad wisdom can wait. So so tell us what you thought you saw on Saturday night. Okay, so I said

seven, seven out of ten. Yeah, you've called it a seven out of ten. IM probably in the same in the same area. I might, I might go seven and a half. But what were your thoughts? My thoughts word that I was going to be really careful about not drawn too many conclusions from that game right there. I think, fine, I'd give it a would you give a seven, I'd give it like a six six

and a half conclusion and promising things. I think the offense is going to be great almost every game there's a good They're really talented, they're really hard to stop, and if the offensive line comes together as well as it has the potential to do, this is going to be one of the best offenses Arizona has ever had. Then the defense, you know, the defense's some nice things, but the kind of mistakes they made, you do not get

away with that. And you don't get away with that against Mississippi State, and you don't get away with that, and Pac twelve is going out in a glaze of blaze of glory. You can't be turning the ball over in the red zone. You can't be turning the ball over on downs, you

know around the thirty five. You can't have that blocking the punter or the roughing to punter penalty that not only robbed you of a great great sale position scoring opportunity, keeps the drive alive, they keep possession, they get their only points of the game. Stuff, I guess just not gonna work. There's some stuff to clean up. So let me ask me, did you I'm sure you did this for the magazine? What did you predict for them

to win before the season started. We don't go, We don't. We don't go final record, because I just think this kind of stupid to be honest, to be going, hey, let's pick every game, like, come on, man, it's uh, it's early May. We're gonna pick every college football game. It's just it's just kind of silly. But did we did? We picked him eighth in the league, which which I think is where the Patrol media ended up in the preseason poll. I recall correctly,

we picked them. You know, we do rank every team one through one hundred and thirty three nationally. I think we had Arizona around fifty one. So you can tell by where we pick them that we expect him to be a bowl team. So we expect him to be at least six and six. All right, all right, well that's fair, so you know I'll stick with that. Yeah, although getting right, because but one of those six was beating Colorado, that suddenly looks a little more difficult. I

wanted to go there with you because that is gonna be another one. So I was gonna say, do you stand by six and six still? Yeah, I mean I'll stand by by now because a lot of things to happen, and a lot of bad things can happen to Colorado before that game is played, too, right, I think it was. Obviously Colorado was a

story of Week one. They were they were great. They've got two five star talents, and they were much more cohesive and together than I thought they would be for a team that had eighty transfers or whatever it is, and a lot of those came in after spring ball. So to put together a cohesive, discipline team very much to be on credit in the in the first game there, right, Yeah, I mean I thought right away that you is not the CCU from last year. TCU did not play GREATCU gave Colorado

a couple of things and blew a couple of opportunities themselves. So you know, that's let's just see how Colorado does. But it was encouraging for them. Yeah, well again they What what I saw more than anything was that they looked like a football team, like they kind of you know, they got guys. And so that's the thing that I saw it, you know, And again, as Steve and I were saying earlier, we just don't

know yet. We don't know anything about anybody, right, I mean, we think Florida State is really good because the way they beat the hell out of LSU. You know, we think, uh, you know, Clemson sucks because they got beat you know, by Duke. But you know, we we we still don't you know, we think Baylor sucks. They got beat by Texas State, but we still don't know. We'll learn a lot

more, particular by Arizona this week against Mississippi State. But as you said, you can't make the mistakes that they made Saturday night and expect to win games like that. Yeah, and that's the that's the thing. I want to kind of see them clean up. But you know, when they do start playing those cleaner games, they kind of look legit. And then, you know, I was watching the when I was watching Colorado, I was wondering, Hey, I wonder if Colorado it's kind of the Arizona they're gonna

have. Each team is going to have a lot of offense, and the question is are they going to have enough defense? And of course Arizona defense statistically looked a lot better than Colorado's, but you know, that was the nature of the opponent. So we will we will see how that goes.

But you know, you're you know, you guys, remember what ended up being the one of the great stretches of Arizona of Arizona football season was back in nineteen ninety two, right when they started one one and one going to Miami and then they almost beat Miami and go on a five game winning streak where they beat three ranked teams, including number on Washington. So it may be a case of we may have a month's worth of evidence and strange and

surprising things can still happen after that too. Yeah, and it usually does, you know it, It usually does. And tomorrow phrase from Anthony jamineo, we'll know when we know what Anthony, where do you I know we've only we've only seen him for a year in a game, But where do you put Jane Delora in terms of you know, quarterbacks at Arizona? Uh, you know who who do you think has been better than him? And who you know who's out there that you know everybody likes, who you think

he's better than. Yeah, I mean there's always uh, well, nobody disputes number one in that list, which is Nick Pole. Right after that, I guess it's up for a little bit of for debate. I didn't see ton of Cliff jay I. You've got more experience with that than I do. And of course it's such a different error. You go back and look at the numbers and they just don't trans late to today's game. So

that makes it really difficult to start comparing quarterbacks of different times. But for me, number, you know, I'm I'm kind of an I'm always in the camp of what if when it comes to Keith Smith, because Keith was might have been the second most talented quarterback I've scene here, because he had he had the arm, he had, he had the legs. He was ahead of his time. He would have been an all time RPO quarterback, but that did not really quite exist at that time in major college football.

So you know, he would have been Pat White at West Virginia. He would have been great if he had his in a little bit different system, with a career of full health up the Moor. I don't know, where do you guys, where do you guys put him? What? Who else?

Are you can both? Are you kind of considering that he might end up in the company out I you know, I don't know, because I uh, last week, sometime during the week that uh, that UCLA Arizona fifty two to fourteen Willie to Atomic game was on, and I thought he was so good in that game, and you know, he was just a freshman, and you know, he had the concussion issues and stuff like that. But you know, you feel like, I feel like if you put Willie to Atoma in this offense, he would be a hell of a lot

better quarterback than he was in the Mike Stubs offense. So you know, kind of doing things like that, I don't know, I see Willie up there. You know again, Uh, who had a better freshman freshman year at quarterback than aw Solomon? Ever? Yeah? Right, But then when you know, you know, again, concussions and stuff like that after the fact, and he never really materialized for as antially transferred. So I don't know. Yeah, I mean that's a little bit of the story of Arizona

quarterback history. You know, you got that great freshman start from Willie on New Solomon. You thought he he was the one. He was going to lead Arizona back to to Big Bowls repeatedly. And then you go back to the guy just mentioned when Keith Smith was hurt in ninety seven, this guy named Ortie Jenkins steps in. It's a freshman and by the end of the

year, we think he's a hide candidate, right. And of course he got Kello Tate, who was another guy who after his debut we thought, oh my god, this guy's a Hydeman candidate, right, and they all that's the best the story of Arizona quarterback history. They they tease and they

cantalyze and if something happens. So you guys are discussing the quarterback and being one of the better ones and forever another wide receiver just as a unit has got to be probably the best ever when you're talking about i mean the top if you're talking about the top two. Here you've got Cowing and McMillan, and that you might have to go back to ninety eight with Dennis Northcutt and Jeremy McDaniel. That was you know, you've got kind of an all American

type player. In north cut two guys who played you know, Northcutt played Vaalder in the pros and McDaniel but McDaniel was in college. Was really God's really really good. So I think those that duo is probably the best I've seen since I started covering the team, And this current group is probably the best since then. Who played who was the who was another receiver alongside Gerner? Because I just remember, you know, maybe yeah that's that was a

good group, big tall, physical guys. Yeah yeah, yeah, no kid is I mean, I think this group is better than the group's definitely better. What I like about this group is what they do after they get the ball. I don't think I think I can hands down say they're they you know, particularly cowing uh and then I you know, I think we're gonna see some of that from uh, from Limonious Craig. Just you know, they don't have to catch the ball deep to get a lot of yards.

I think McMillan does a little bit, but he's gonna make some great catches. You know, he's gonna he's a guy who's gonna go over the middle and make incredible catches. But you know, Cowen gets the ball out in the open and it's it's crazy he can he can bust one anytime. So that's what I like about what he does. Yeah, I'm I'm with you there. I think you know, I'm trying to uh scan the memory banks there. But he accelerates probably better than anybody else can here. That's

what Dennis Sporthcutt used to do, right, I did. This was just great and at everything. Yeah, I'm not sure. I mean really I think how he's got like the best Oh he's catching a screen pass or a little off two yard out and he goes from zero to sixty yards enough time. So he's really special by ways. And that's why I think he's going to be great in the pros, even though you know he's not necessarily the biggest, tallest dude. But man, there's that's a that's a skill set

that anybody wants. So last question before you go. So you're talking about the quarterback and the running back. The running backs as a group another group where they can you know, rotate out. You're not missing much different kinds of different type exactly. You get what you need? Right? What about

that reunit? Yeah? I love them too, and that's part you know, I tweeted that during the game, because you know, you guys remember the old nineteen eighty nine, nineteen nine when Arizona was calling their offense the back attack, and some of that was like David Eldredge and our Grade House and even Lamont Lovett and some other guys that didn't necessarily have a thousand yards seasons, right because they were pulling a lot of the carries. And that's

kind of the same way with this group. You've got. You've got four I think the coaches are completely comfortable with They're all versatile in their own way. They're a little bit different, you know, you got you've got some guys that have a little more power than others. But they're all going to be able to catch the ball for you. They're all going to be able to play on any down for you. And this is a really good group again. And so you got the receivers, you got the quarterback, you

got the running back, and I do like this offensive line. It's still probably the biggest question mark, but again, you've got to go back twenty five plus years to find an Arizona team that has at least potentially two and fell offensive tackles, and that's what this group appears to have if they stay healthy and the scouts, and the scouts are right, you have two future pros and left apple and right tackle and that's really rare in Arizona. Okay,

Anthony, go enjoy the rest of your birthday. Yep, have some sugar. Okay, enjoy the appreciate having you on, Anthony, taking the time to do that. And well, we'll play some more later. Sounds good. Steve Ravera and Jagnsalis they have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports Stage jet Fox Sports fourteen fifteen streaming live on the Ihard Radio. Hey, welcome back to One About here on Fox Sports fourteen, Kiptie. I'm Steve Rivera, here, Jakes us and we're gonna continue with more jeh uh at the I

think it was the second half. I gunner Maldonado got the UH the targeting costs, so one of their starting guys will be out this week with UH for getting you got kicked out of the game. That's what happens when you get a target and you're kicked out. And if if happens in the second half, you miss the first half of the next game. It happens in the first half, you just missed the rest of the game. Let's show you at work, Let's show you will see. Yes, what do you

let USC? Then? What? Oh, you don't have to worry about it? Oh? Well, you know when I got what the explanation I heard on that was was that the first that week of the season, okay, was week zero, So that what I thought, what I thought it excused to be, it's the next game, right, it's whether it's a week zero or week still whatever. Whoever. Somebody told somebody said that, and I'm like, that, can't they made a mistake. They didn't get

another There's no way, there's no way. That makes no sense. And just everybody playing on week zero and didn't record doesn't count, right, So, I dude, I don't know what to tell you. That's just that's just that's just what somebody said. That's what I heard. I don't know how true that is, but that's what that's what I heard. Anyway. So, but USC did not have to forfeit again. He didn't play the first half of h that was a Christian Roland Wallace. The gated chance from

Arizona went over to USC. So got a targeting call in the US, got a targting call in the E. No, you got kicked out of the A s U game at the ends. He was supposed to miss the first he was game. So anyways, okay, So yes, so Gunnarmaldanaoga gets a targeting call. You know, it was one of those he it was an unfortunate thing. I think it was. I think it was. It was a good call. And and well you'll you'll hear, you'll hear uh, you'll hear Jed say that, you know what what he thought of

the call as well. So here's what uh, here's what Jed had from. Yes, here's what Jed had to say about the targeting call and what they're gonna do with Calder model Nato out for the first half next week. The position, So Gunner will be have to sit the first half of this coming game. And you know, we have it. We have Dalton, we have DJ Warnell, we have Herb and then we have price Sock. We have to Carrio. So we have a really good group right there that

can rotate through and I feel really good about that group of six. And then G seven came in and played well too in his five snaps. So when you start adding those guys all up, I think what we'll probably see is in the smoothest transition would just be it for Gunner and then but we'll see what that other competitions look like. Genesis came in played really well as

well. So does Genesis and it and Dalton all wrote eight will work through that in practice Tuesday and or uh yeah, Tuesday Wednesday, And then there was a there was a follow up question on how Arizona coaches guys not you know, get the targeting penalties and so here's what you had to see. That's a tough thing, you know, some of those it's just you know, sometimes a guy he's already made his move, guy ducks his head or whatever you make, you make contact. I always say this instance an analogy.

And I don't know if the place you've ever been in a car crash? Yeah, and did you see it coming? But you couldn't do anything about it? Yes, that's this, that's this. You can't change your body. I mean you're there, you're moving right exactly. You can't do much about it. Yeah, so here's what you had to say. I would lead with your shoulder. Lead with your shoulder is the best way to

to say it. You just can't lead with your face mask. So it's like you're just gonna have to turn a little bit more than you normally would. And no, if there's any chance of a catch tackle, do the catch tackle. Because if you just go flying in there with a shoulder and you mess, you know, you're you're you got a problem, right. But if you just lead with your shoulder, tackle with your shoulder, keep your head out of it. You're just gonna have to deal with some of

those plays that aren't necessarily the same blow up shots. You know, you go back in time and you look at all the blow up shots of old and you want to try to, you know, get your defense going, and you go look at some of the film and you're like, I can't show any of these right, None of these blow up shots of old are the same, are allowed any longer. So you have to do really, you have to be disciplined, and you have to lead with your shoulder.

It's funny, Jay, you couldn't show any Chuck Cecil. Well, there was that question got asked. You said, Okay, Chuck Cecil was like the master of the of the of the targeting. You know, how was Chuck Cecil? You know, and he basically, Chuck's a coach. You know, he knows what you're supposed to do don't do and that's what. Yeah, it basically yeah, don't do that was basically it was. It was a funny question because you know, you're talking about the heat seeking missiles,

sure and all that stuff. Who just you know, dive head first into everyone sold a lot. You know, remember Benniel Loggy, I mean just these dudes were just tough dudes. Bennon Centers, I'm sure, just dudes, all those all those guys were just guys like that, you know, all the great the game has changed, there's no question. Yeah, it's just changed, all right. So then, uh, you know there were some guys missing on the offensive line. Unfortunately, Raymond Polido had to

sit out. He got he crashed his bike, he got some stitches in his hand. They don't even know if he's gonna be able to make it this week. And stitches in his I think and something was in his hand and then that's what I read, and I think I read that. And then Jordan Morgan, uh didn't play too much after the in the second hand key starters. Yeah. So so the Jed was asked, Okay, what are you doing on the offensive line going to you know, going to an

SEC this week? Here was his response. Yeah, I think it was a little tricky just because of the fact that Raymond was taking all the reps of the ones for two weeks straight and then all of a sudden, after your last practice, you don't have them. So there wasn't even a practice other than walk through in the hotel ballroom that we were able to even get

the communication right. It's really a credit to Josh Baker and Big Jonah that when Sam went in or JT went in, that they were able to get all the calls out and they were able to help him and keep him confident, and JT did a really good job. Sam did a good job. Both of those guys are gonna have to play again this week unless something changes. We won't know about Raymond really until I'm gonna say Thursday or Friday, we'll we'll actually know if he'll be clear to play or not. So those

guys are gonna have to continue to step up. And then Joe Borgian came in and stepped in in that left tackle role probably for about twenty four minutes, you know, the last the second half of the third quarter on and did a really good job as well. But Jordan is doing great and Jordan will be ready to go. You know, you want, okay wine, why did they do that? Because they were winning handling and they just wanted to make sure that that uh, you know, they bring him along a

little slower because of the injury. What what do you think the deal was there? Yeah, I don't know, I don't know, but they're gonna need these sechs of players. They got to have these guys, especially this weekend. But you know, we'll see what happens. But you know, again, the depth on this team, you know when you we're going through the safeties right or through, you know, they got they got a bunch of guys who they think and play and you probably can't play. What time

is the game at four thirty two some time? For thirty two some time, it's gonna be a little hug muggy muggy over there. Right, yeah, Yeah, there was some discussion of that, and he said, look, we practiced one hundred and five degrees. You know, if they've got you know, eighty five degrees and high humidity, well we do it. Were playing one hundred five. It's a different heat, but it's still damn

and they played it in August most of the time. Right now, it's gonna be the big dudes of the Joe what it called the Joe's, and them what it called the XS, and you know about the XS and nose, it's the Jos, Joes, the players. You have one team, yeah, and then the guys got to go out there and play, right, got got guys got out there and play. And then finally there was
