This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jaken Zalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services. I'm sure your most prized possessions katz R two side and iHeart Radio Station. Heay, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve Rivera. You're Jaken Zalez. I only have one thing to tell you, Jake, you better not leave me again. Sisterday was chaotic, it was a pain in the neck. It was everything. You better not leave me
a kid, you know, I was never don't get this twisted. I missed you, man. I listened to you guys on the in the car on the way. I was driving home from San Diego, and I turned it on, and those first five or ten minutes exactly, I had a vision of the look on your face. I knew what you looked like. I knew exactly what you look like. It was like I used to a substitute teacher for a friend back in the day with junior Hi kids. Oh
man, did that give me an experience? I was back in those days where you want to do you just want to cry, you want to cry. You can't do the about it. And I needed Chris. I needed Chris. The funny thing about it. He just came in earlier today, earlier, the last hour. But you think it's a great show, right, Okay. I got emails. I got people tell me it was a great show, and I said, well, it's fifty fifty on my end. Well, I got some What the hell is going on in your There
was a trade. I could not stop. It's a trade. I could not stop. You know, I love Chris. He's an energetic Uh, he's a funny dude. He's very he pays attention and you know, for for a guy who doesn't do a sports show, he's very knowledgeable. A man. I told him he was over the top. I thought we didn't drug test. It was so funny. And that's kind of what people were saying. He show. It's funny, back and forth, you know.
Okay, right, you weren't in my seat. Yeah, yeah, so anyway, but you know, you guys, and then George came in, and George was good. I listened to George. Yeah, George was George was kind of like a deer in the headlights in terms of what did I get. I saw him this morning. You know, he was in that breakfast club that I work with. I'm sure he had fun, and he said he had fun and he loves to do it. He says, you
need to take some more days off. And I just kind of said, I don't think Steve wants yeah, because Christen, I needn't get a Mulley guy. I said, Hey, they ain't gonna be a I don't think. I don't think. I'm pretty sure Steve doesn't want it to be a rebitch. Well, I do appreciate him because he d worked the board. I have no idea what the board is. And and and yeah, Chris, don't get us wrong, we love love in the fact that you did
that, I appreciate it because we didn't leave Steven Steven. And you know what a lot of reaction to you to the show, certainly a lot of reaction. Up. Did you put it up on it's like it's on it's on heart website, It's on the I heart website. I did. I did not get a chance to read it on all the all the uh. It was entertaining and yet frustrating all of the same. It was pretty funny.
It was I gotta crack I cracked up a lot anyway. But I'm glad to be back Steve, you know, with what happened over the weekend. Uh, you know, I wish I'd been here yesterday so we could break it down. But I mean we could get some of that. And you watch a game, right, yes, So let me say this. I tried to say this yesterday that I learned more yes in Saturday's game than
I did the week before, given the circumstances. And I went to the press conference yesterday and I wanted to ask this question and my goal thursday to shout to Jet again and and and the kid justin asking questions about Jim Laura, right, I wanted to phrase it a different way. It was kind of like, uh, what's your name last night? Alan? Right?
Yeah? You get what you get. You get a gunslinger, You got a guy who can make plays, and you got a guy who kind of screw up every now and a get well and that and that's the thing. That's the realization I think that that we came to this week with with what with Jad, with what what Jed said, he said, that's who he is, that's who he's gonna be. Exactly. Now, what you hope is that way more often than not, he's not the guy saw in the first quarter. That's a scary part, Jay, right. I mean,
if you're gonna live like that, you should die. Like how how nervous do you be every time? Can you be when he's doing something? You know, after the first quarter, I was a nervous the rest of the game. Every time I went back to pass, I thought, you know, he was gonna throw another pick, and then he had a great game. Now then he throws that pick that your thought ended the game. In the fourth quarter, defense steps up, gets a three and out, they
go back, they tie the game. So yeah, what I think, what I think I learned, what I think I know is that Arizone's a pretty good team. They can play, but they can also you know, if he goes off and throws four interceptions again against you TEP, they could lose this time. Well, well it's gonna be the better teams Colorado, or you go do that against Stanford? Do you go do that against any packed any pac twelf team, you could lose. You know, they couldn't.
And the thing of it is is that they could have won that game. They could have won it. Surprisingly, right if if, if, if a team act doesn't you know, get you know, step out about. I mean he got you know, he was hopping over. The guy steps out about, he goes into score. They win the game. So in spite of all that, you know, they had a chance to win. And I'm like, okay, so you know, I mean the conversation is they're good enough to they were good enough to win a game like that.
They could have won that game in a tough situation. They put themselves in in a in a deep hole with what they did in the first quarter. They was they still had a chance to win that game. But if they keep digging that hole, they're gonna be times they can't climb out of it. Well, that's the problem. Every game is gonna be different, right, I say this, Every game is a season. Uh and you you have you can't this is obvious. You can't have that happened, and
it's not gonna happen. Rookie last year Washington State. You're thinking, Okay, they're gonna pull that off. Bad Jaden as you call it, bad Ja shows up and there's a chance, maybe a twenty five thirty percent chance that bad Jayden shows up for any game here and what what you know?
I listened to Jed's press conference from yesterday. What's clear to me is that he'll he'll, He's gonna go down believing that Jade Delord gives him their best chance to win right right, that his ceiling is way higher than North Fafitus. His his floor might be lower than No Fas, but his ceiling is so much higher that he's willing to risk all that risk the floor to have that ceiling. Because if Jade plays a flawless game, you can imagine that
they can beat us. They can beat Washington, they can beat Oregon. But if he plays like he did in the first quarter against against Southern, against Fissippi State, they can lose by fifty to They can lose by fifty. Watch they can lose by fifty to Oregon. So I think it sounds to me like Jed is decided. I'm gone with him regardless. Let's his writer died. I was thinking that when less listen to him yesterday, Let's his writer died because he has no choice. Maybe he does have a choice
him, but he's he's let me say this is who posted this? Maybe Brian Peterson on Twitter. Kerr and Jaden pictures. They're the same people you live in, isn't it? So Yeah, Jo Tommy Lloyd Rhode Or died with Kerr and we eventually know what happened there. And and but you and I was this is the question I would ask and maybe ask again and no, no disrespected, justin you know what you get. You know what you're getting from Jason Jadeja. He he's a guy who loses confidence, right,
which is a good thing, right and a bad thing right. Well again, you know, and and I know it's a it's a it's kind of an over over the top comparison. But I think Sami legit comparison. How we talked about bred five, right, that bred five would do the stupidest things, but he did so many spectacular things. You couldn't sit that on the bed. Sure. No, last night's Aland game was exactly that.
Three interceptions. You think this guy's good, this guy's really good, and didn't get you into field goal range to tie the game, all right, and you think, okay, he's back again. And then yeah, so I like, I guess, I guess what what? You know? What fans are gonna have to do, I think is understand the right that understand that this is who he is. That there's gonna be getting, you know, times that you want to pull your hair out and go, what the
hell is going on? But that's gonna either be offset or even over ridden by the times that he's spectacular, because he was great over the last three quarters. Jay, here's the problem though. The schedule, The schedule after this week gets tough. Right after this we get stuck. There's eight pack, twelve teams in the eight people. So if you get normal good Jaden this weekend, you really don't need normal good. You need him the rest
of the year. Not if Andrew Butts you need him. Yeah, and look, and you gotta imagine that in spite of the fact that Jed is one hundred percent behind him, and to a degree I thought in the press conferences they really overprotected him saying that that those those throws weren't that bad. Yes they were, see see, And I don't I don't recall them being bad because maybe I didn't pay attention. You probably paid attention more to it. A lot of them tip to ball. You probably know more about that
than I do. But they're probably in tough spots. They're probably put in tough spots. But that's what he When you're a dude who has confidence and you think you can walk on water and and that's kind of too much, but think you can do anything, you do that. Yeah, you do that, and plays no, I agree. I mean what I saw was that the first interception, he was late, the tight end was open.
He threw it too late. The guy had time to get there. Jed mentioned something about somebody ran a route and the guy who was defending him was in the neighborhood and made the play and the ball ricochets and somebody catch it. You know, normally that Paul maybe hits the ground right. The one he threw for the corner of the cornerback, you know, made a great guy. He threw it. You know, his receiver was between two guys, he was not open, and he threw it. And and yes,
the guy did the guy make a great play, He absolutely did. But he never should have made that throw because because the guy, you know, his receiver had a guy on each side of him. If he'd have pulled that down, that would have been a spectacular play. You can't put yourself in a position where guy's got to make this spectacular play or it's going to be a turnover. You can't do. That's a smart dude. He's not gonna he's not gonna rug on his quarterback because he needs his quarter He needs
his quarterback. He wants him to have confidence. Yeah, and so that's that's just what I'm Arizona fan, I'm talking to you. You're gonna go to the stadium and this is what you're gonna see the rest of Jayden Delora's career. This is who he is. And deal with it right, nor
deal with it. No, you are who you are, man, You are who you deal with it. He might get he might get you to the promised land, you know, by doing great things, or he may take you into the sewer or into the ditch by doing the things that he You know that you got. You you got what you got. Enjoy or not enjoy because we wanted to think that bad Jaden was was a product of inexperience with this offense that we saw last year, that bad Jaden is here
to stay. Bad Jaden is here. Yeah, and and maybe Hitler. The funny thing of us all you learned from this. You are who you are. We talk about it in basketball. You learn, sure, you know not to do it, but guess what, sometimes you do it again. Yeah, because you just that's who you are. You just what you do. Yeah. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jacob Salaz on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to On the Ball here on Fox fourteen fifty Chickens off now wonderful. We have Adam Queen from Ange Desertsworm
dot com. Adam, how are you doing? I'm good? How are you guys? We're doing? Fight? Hey, we were just talking about the football team and I learned more about this team this last weekend than I did the first week, and it's pretty pretty favorable in my mind, what
about you? Yeah, I agree, Obviously there's not a lot you learn from beating NAU other than Arizona taking care of business the way they were supposed to and he was a little closer than the first half and people would like but you know, eventually, Arizona's talent was supposed to win the day and it did pretty comfortably, whereas going to Mississippi State game, Arizona wasn't supposed to win by the oddsmakers standards. And obviously Arizona didn't play a great game,
at least offensively. Jaye and Delora had you know, his classic Jadeen had some of his worst moments and also some of his best. But through it all, Arizona's defense played well enough to give him a chance to win. The offense made some plays late to put a position to win. They
didn't get it done ultimately. But yeah, I feel like, if you know, if you were pretty optimistic about Arizona, nothing happened over Mississippi State game that should changed that, right, Like they looked pretty good in that
loss. I agree. Yeah, you know, I was reading your call him yesterday and you know you talked about how yet clearly Arizona is showing some progress, but also clearly showing that that this is you know, they still got some stuff that they got to do, and you know, you can't make the mistakes that you made they made and win a game like that, even though they still had a chance to the very end to win that game.
You know, I mean, we're sitting here talking about what we'd call him bad Jayden, and you know, bad Jayden shows up and he does what he did in the first in the first quarter. He showed up at times even in the NAU game. The classic one from last year was the Washington State game where he just does bad things. You know. I mean we're talking about the fact that Arizona fans may just have to deal with that,
that that's who he is. You're any thoughts on that? I think, I mean that's Shaden Delore, right, we from all last season and you know, for all he had a few really bad games last season, for the most part, he was very good and certainly an upgrade Overla Arizon had in recent years. I don't think you accept you know, five turnovers
or you know, the interceptions like he had against Mississippi State. But at the same time, you understand that that's not going to happen every single game that Mississippi State has wanted better to evens I'll face and I know je fishing as press turns talking about maybe you know their routes weren't run correctly or some great place by Missippi States. They're linebackers, and yes, there's there's going to be said for the fact that falls can be bad at away. You
can throw into coverage and they fall harmlessly and complete. Not every single bet. You know, bad red turns into a deflection that's picked off by a linebacker, So there might have been some bad luck involved there. But I think you mean, Jenny Lore is more good than bad, but his bad is spectacularly bad, like we saw against Misissippi State. But you know, you could argue that they lost the game because of Delora, but at the same time, you could make the case that they were in the game because
of Delores. So you know, it's a little bit a Jecklin Hyde situation. But I think he's gonna be good farm more than he's gonna be bad at and we saw that last season and I imagine we'll see that this season. So hopefully he settles down a little bit. Hopefully what Arizona saw on Saturday was a case of playing just a very good defense that has experienced linebackers. Maybe got a couple of bounces, but you know, I wouldn't even
think about benching Delorer. I wouldn't even think about going in another direction. We know what he can do. We saw that last season, and I imagine it's gonna be a lot more good Jadean than bad jade and the rest of the season. Okay, so let's move on from him, because we've already solved his problems, right, So what else did you like about the you know, the team of the receivers and running backs, defense, of course, defense, linebacker. Yeah right, it would have to be.
And it's only two games, and Arizona's defense, I remember last season was pretty good against San Diego's State, and there are reasonable questions of how good missip State's offense is given the change in systems and what happened with the late Mike Leach. But yeah, the defense putting up a fight. No one
was expecting them or even requiring them to be really really good. They don't have to be a top half of the PAC twelve in defense or Arizona to be bold team, they just have to be average in LBA decent, keep the team in the game, and give the offense a chance to do what it has proven it can do. And they didn't have the last couple of the first two games. So you know, it's one thing to against, like a really good offense when they play USC when they play Washington, I
wouldn't expect that. But if they're facing league average offenses and holding them to onwenty four points in regulation or whatever it may be, that boats pretty well for them the rest of the season. So yeah, the defense has been very good, about as good as one could have hoped, I think, up to this point, with a chance to improve a little bit. But
the running backs, I think the versatili they have in that room. It wasn't a great running game against Mississippi State, but I know that Missisesate was trying to load the box and make airs on a throw. But Michael Whytt looks every bit the guy who was last season. Jonah Coleman looks even better. B D. Luke, EJ. Williams like that is a really good rotation that Arizona has in the backfield too, So you know, there's a lot to like a lot of things that happened with the first two weeks and
even last sire to make you think they're in pretty good shape. But I think it does start with a defense. It's like you said, you know, I think as the game went on on Saturday, it's I felt I felt a little more like a confidence about the defense that they could get a stop. Like you when you threw that that pick in the fourth quarter, you know, four minutes left or whatever whatever time was. They thought they're still four minutes left, Arizona, can you know they could get a three
and out and get the ball back. And I actually thought they might get a three and out, And then they did, and they got the ball back, went down and scored. We there, yeah, and we haven't had that in a long time, no how many times last season was And I think like the Cal game, for example, where Arizona just needed a
stop in the second half and they couldn't get it. You know, when a team, whether they were going to run the ball down their throats or just find success through the air, whatever defense or offenses wanted to do, they pretty much got it done. Even the a SU game to end the season, the Arizona got the turnovers, gave it back and like the first turnover the sacks fumble that happened in the red zone O case, he was marching down the field to possibly take the lead there. So the defense made
a couple of plays late, got turnovers, but held on. This was different. This was a defense needing to get a stop and doing exactly that. When it'd be easy to be dejected, you know, they've had a good game, they've played well, and here it goes the offense turning the ball over again and sending them back onto the field. But they went out
there with a confidence. They went out there with a plan and said, probably think they could get that stop and get the offense the ball back, And obviously they got to stop, got the offense the ball back, and
the offense when and scored the tying field goals. So yeah, I feel like there's a level of confidence in that defense that hasn't been there before, probably, you know, definitely from a fan perspective, from a media perspective, but imagine from the defensive perspective too that hey, they're getting those stops when they need to that the offense can put them a bad situation, and it doesn't mean there's gonna be a seven eight nine play drives in a touchdown
that you know what they're on the field and they can make plays too. You will to assume that you're gonna give credit to Nansen, maybe better players, maybe the endem understanding the scheme better, all of the above, or what it has to be all of the above. Like, there's reasonable questions about Johnny Nanson and his abilities to be a defensive courier are very play color.
But similar to Jet Fish in his first season, the question was does this guy know how to coach offense or does he just need players who can play offense? And the second season they got you know, quarterback on some receivers, the running backs, and all of sudden the offense is good. It's like, oh, maybe Jetfish doesn't know how to coach an offense. Maybe he can call plays offensively. I think Manson deserves that benefit of the
doubt. Two, where Okay, get him better players, because you look at the roster last season, they played hard, but was that a good defense? Was that a group of players that were going to get a lot of stops against pretty good offenses? And no, that's simple answers. So
they went into the off season upgraded that side of the ball. I forget what the transfer portal number was, but it's like all defense that they basically got other than Montana monious Craig and I thought was, okay, if these guys can play Johnny Manson system, if there's an upgraded talent, now we
get to see what he can do with that type of rotations. So you know, again it's only two games, and maybe the offensive they faced weren't particularly good, but I think you have to give credit to Johnny Manson for so far maxim rising the talent he has, which is now better talent than
he had last season. But we saw Justin Flow come in and be the Justin Flow that I think a lot of us expected to see anybody else, or the kind of sticks out that you've seen on the defensive side that you know says this is why the defense has been pretty good the last couple of weeks. I mean Bill Norton, I think it starts up front with someone like him. He's just been like in the backfield, is making plays involved, like you see him breaking down the offensive line. Manoah, I think
has been pretty good. One guy that I was thinking about just the other day. I was talking to Brian Peterson, my owner at asydesertsworm dot com, was Ephesians Price Sock, because we haven't really heard his name called that much. And I'm like, is this because teams aren't throwing at him? Or is he just making you know? And if they're not throwing at him, why is that his coverage really good? Or what's going on there?
And him coming in as the number one cornerback replacing Christian Roland Wallace. I know the fumble on Mississips State's opening possession, Priceock got the leverage on the outside, forced the receiver back inside, and Herbie was able to force the bumbles. So, you know, it's tough with corners because if they're not getting interceptions and not getting pass break, and it's hard to know that they're
doing a really good job unless you watch the film. But I imagine the Phesian's Pricelocker is doing a very good job as a number one cornerback, which is obviously huge for them. Yeah, I guess we gotta cut you loose here real quick. So next couple of weeks, you know, you know, you figured they should be utap Stanford obviously not very good. But you know Arizona winsay the next two games, then they got Washington coming in. Well, what do they have to do these next couple of weeks to be
ready for that? It's certainly they're for Washington. It certainly feels like just play well, stay healthy, and then you have that big game. But obviously you have to win these next two games to make the Washington game not much bigger. And you know, for Arizona, you get past the laws of Misisippi State, you're kind of you win the next two year where you probably are supposed to be yet at uh, you know, re and one going into the Washington game, that's not a bad place to be for them.
So I mean, ideally you see Delora cut back on the turnovers and the offense start to look like it did last season in the good games, and the defense continue to play well and get guys like Justin Flow more comfortable in the defense. All of a sudden, they're more dynamics. So you know, you stay healthy, win the next two games, and play well doing so, then yeah, you're still going to be an underdug against Washington. I guess, no, pun intended, but you know, you'll feel
a bit better about your chances with them coming to the desert. So you know, it's, yeah, they should win the next two weeks, and if they do, then it kind of outed. So we've seen the last you know, the first two weeks. But if you trip up against you Pepp or go to Stanford and lose, then you start to wonder, Okay, what's going on here? So stay healthy, play well, and then yeah, when the next two games and then you have a big one against Washington in a couple of weeks, right, Okay, Adam, Hey,
thanks a whole bunch man doing this on short notice. We do you appreciate it, then we'll be we'll keep reading your stuff. Easy desert swarm. Thanks a bunch all right, thank you? Cool, no good observations. I mean it's kind of instep with us. Yeah, yeah, I mean I always like people who agree with us because that makes that makes us really
smart when some smart guy can and talks about all that stuff. Hopefully we'll get some insightful calls from our people. A game called yesterday, game called yeah, and and I thought, yeah, yeah. Some good calls up. Obviously, I think Don called he was siding with with my guy Chris. Don I don't know what your sanity, yes though, yeah, you know, I do have a beef with what
Chris said when he said they were supposed to win that game. You know, they weren't. No, they weren't. That was my That's exactly what I couldn't convince. It was just simply wrong. They were not supposed to win the game. You understood, you heard my firstation, right right. They could have won the game. You might even argue they should have won the game if they don't play as bad as they did in the first quarter.
But going in, they were not supposed to win the game. No, and I and they were near to Chris's point that this is these are the game they need to go over the hump. Don't disagree at all totally, but he was going tangentially in a bunch of directions. I couldn't stop him, you know, at the end of the game. But here's the here's the picture of high I saw the game. Oh we got a call. Let's take this callack callback. We missed you, Sorry about that.
You know, it's my wife's birthday. We're in San Diego. Where where at this house? That we've rented in Mission Beach. We're watching the game. We keep pushing back our dinner. Oh, here we go. Let's take this. Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. How's it going today? What's up? Brian? Brian? How come you can call me yesterday and get this sanity in order? Couldn't save me? I'm listening to me and going, man, you got some problems to say? You need a Jake. I told you. I don't know how to
take that. Bran. I feel like i just got punched in the gun, and I'm supposed to feel good about it, all right, So what's up? That's exactly but you know, you know, watching the game game, you know we should have won, but we didn't. And now we have to kind of move on in life and say, Okay, we should win this weekend. If we don't win this weekend, his whole season shot. But we should win this weekend, and we are exactly where everybody thought
we would be. Two and one. Yes, yeah, you know, I'm the hardest part is to watch that game knowing that we could have won and should have won, but we didn't, and so everybody's going to pile on you know, Jane Delor, he's just one of those guys that either he's really good or he's really bad. And we got to hope he's really good for the next ten games. So isn't that scary being a fan? Well, as you said, he's got to be more good than bad. He's going to be bad, but he can't be so bad that they had
cost them games. This is your starting right, right, this is your starting quarterback. Yes. And and one thing too that still impressment because they called an earry on the first game. The defense is so much improved that, you know, with all those mistakes the offense made or the quarterback, whoever you want to blame, we were still in the game because of the defense. Yeah, which, and they've not been in the game because of
the defense. And since three rich Rod, Yeah, yeah, it's it's you know to me, and okay, they should win utep, I don't know what Stanfords and the like, we don't know got to go there, so that, you know, that makes it difficult, you know, And then we got to play Washington, you know, and then if we're if we're three and one going into Washington, we got to be very happy. Yeah, No, then just and just see how and see how the next eight games go after that. Well, and that's it. They're right where
they're supposed to be in the in the end. As much as you think they could have or should have won that game on Saturday, we thought they were going to be one in one, or at least most people thought they were gonna be one in one. Right, And if if I can't we don't make a lot of mistakes in the next four or five games, I can see us maybe not winning all the games, but being there to have
a chance to win the games. So instead of being you know, like last year we played great for three quarters, in every fourth quarter we just fell apart. Yeah, so, brand I think, Bran, I can't remember you. I can't remember you making the predictions. I think you had more than six. Yeah, I think you're the one that called Jacob kind of on drugs or something. Is that right? How many? How many? How many did you have them winning six? Did you still feel confident
in six? Yeah? I do, I'm sure you have. I think, Hey, you know, I don't know about Washington, and Washington is a very good team. We all know that, and USC is I don't know about UCLA. I don't know about as U. I don't you know o Oregon State and Washington State are two different I guess animals. I guess you might say, only for the fact they're playing this season differently than we
are. To me, I think they're playing your seasons. Is we need to get back of these other ten guys who are leaving us, and they're they're playing so somebody will keep them at somewhere in a power at a power five level, right, And the only problem is who's gonna take them right? Nobody? Right? Okay, Bran hey Man, thanks a Buch, appreciate it. Stay well, talk to you later. This is your cue, Brian. If anything, alright, suffer from you call in all right.
So I was storytelling, Okay. So we're watching the game and we're pushing our dinner. It's what's birthday, right, and it's her birthday that day, Saturday was her birthday. So we keep pushing back our reservation as the game is going on, so we can sit here and watch the whole game. Our dinner places like five minutes from when we're at We keep pushing back, pushing finally gets to you know, get to work and we said, we can't push it back one more time, so we watched it up
until regulation ended. Then we all get in the car are and goes I'm having. I listened to it from Brian. I listened to Brian Jefferies, Uh, you know his call, you know on on the overtime, Like, now, I want to know did they get did they get ripped off? In in? But but then I realized the refs and and therefore the instant replay review was done by PAC twelve crew. So it wasn't they didn't get it. Wasn't they didn't get homered on that. No, it's the
usual pack ten PAC twelve jobs. Everybody says. The one thing. The two things that I didn't get from the press commerce on or that game. There was no photo of where they placed it. There was no shot of it. How far were they? People said interest? People said there was no typically and they didn't use the yard markers. They didn't move the yard markers. Well, well they didn't because they knew he had to get to the line and he did. They started. Why didn't they show where he
got to I don't know the fumble, the football was never shown. I didn't I didn't see it and that and then the second question, and I asked, justin this yesterday at the press conference, because you know, we get two minutes with Jed, who's the quarterback sneak call? Was that or was it? They said, no, who, Laura did it? Nobody knew he was doing the day? When did they say this yesterday? To
where not today? Someone finally said brand Brand Carroll said, Brandon Carroll said, And then the players said, Okay, Jaden did that on his own. Nobody knew he was doing. That makes sense because that's how it looked bad Jaden. Yes, because if theirs, because if they don't get that, there's your confidence. There's your confidence, man, if you think you have it, and you better make it. Baby, I saw I didn't you know, didn't didn't attend the coordinators press conference. That was all Jaen
Laura. So I'm sure that Jed will be asked that tomorrow because we didn't have time to ask him on Monday. But but there's another thing. You're gonna get the good Jade or the confidence Jaden or the confident Jen I don't know, man, because that's not what he knows. I mean, we know those dudes dude, I'm trying to I'm trying to think if there's ever been a quarterback like that at Arizona that's been so Jed use the word aggressive, I'll tell you. I use the word uh. I don't want to
say gunslingers. That's that's too cliche. He's just and and it's not just confidence. It's just like I'm gonna I'm gonna do this, and I'm not afraid to do it, and and and I think I can do it, but I may screw it up. Jay, Okay, those given the circumstances, what if he does, are there any ramifications? Are there any what if he does screw it up? Are there any ramifications? Not for him?
Because why? I mean why why? Why? Why? Because there's the number two guys not gonna take his Jed's jets decided he's the guy. So if you if you have a guy, if if you have that guy, what you gotta worry about? Yeah, honestly, honestly, he clearly he clearly has. Based on on Jed's press conference, I say he clearly had Jed's approval to do what he does, because I feel like Jed really went out of his way to defend him and take the the glare off of
him from what we thought were a bunch of glaring mistakes he made. There was in that game. There was something that was said Saturday in the press conference, and I didn't watch all of it. I just watched the snippets. And Jaden I think he was maybe justin or somebody local asked him about the interceptions earlinesss I it was the first quarter or there was the first quarter. Jed said that, ye had Jed repeated what he's saying. And I'm
thinking, when would you ever say what? Would say that? There they are, and I think that's important to Jed. They are on the same page without Hey, if you lose, this is Kurr. If you take Kurr and put him on the bench and hopefully comes back, he's toast. He's toast, saying with Jade again and and and and again. As you said, clearly, you know Jed's taken the approach that he's gonna ride or die or die with him. He's gonna ride or die with him. No,
Fafita is next year's guy, right, He's next year's guy. And and and you know I heard basically I heard, uh Jimmy Doherty in preseason and then late and then Jed Fish Jed last week he was asked about Fafita and both of those guys makes He said, no, Fafita is in a great spot. He's doing or asking him to do. He's you know, he going a great job. This is not his team next year's Yeah, well you listen. Did you listen to the audio of the game on Saturday?
Well, did you just watch a game at someplace? I watched it at our at the household. What are the representatives? You know? Because the locals wouldn't say this, but he says he compared him to Mahomes in a Mahomespa. I don't want to go there, but he's got there, and he does have that crazy, crazy mentality. I can make you can't make any throw. You can make any throw that's scary but good, scary but bad. Yeah, if that he can't, let's take this call.
You're on the air and I on the ball. Yeah. I appreciate your guys, show missus Robert, I just want to ask a question about the UFAs the way they start their games. But Michael Wiley up the middle of Michael Eiley up the middle of Michael Wiley on a Sween pass. Why is I think Fish is a good coach and we had a lot of weapons on the offense, but the way we started to get I know, the lawyer had the three interceptions, but why will we stow vanilla or whatever generic whatever
with Michael Wiley? What is the fascination was running at plays plays for the first fifteen plays of the game on offense. You know, I'm not a coach, but I'm gonna guess that the Mississippi State defense dictated what they were doing running the ball, and they just weren't able to run the ball well or didn't feel like they had uh you know, whatever they tried, it wasn't working. I mean, you know, they didn't run the ball very
well. I think we knew going in that they weren't going to because Missippi State, you know, they're an SEC team with a very physical, physical front, and uh, you know, I think it seems to me that they do want to run the ball. We'll see some more of that probably this week against UTEP and then see what they do against Stanford. But you know, Michael Wiley, to me, he's still the key to all of this. He's got to be able to run the ball. Uh, you
know, all season long, he's got to be successful with it. And it just may have been MISSISIPI states defense was too good. I don't know, what do you think, Steve? No, no, no, I agree. It was kind of told me, yes, isn't it? Yeah, go up the middle, run the ball, told me yeah. But I think they were trying to, you know, run the ball, state just establish it that a little bit. They had a little bit of success, but not, you know, not a lot. And again, who
has a lot of success running the ball against an SEC defense? In fact, Lamont asked him the second half because they opened it up in the second half. They moved around dinks and dunks and blah blah blah, and they moved the ball and you're thinking, oh, they have a chance. Yeah they should have. Don't go from the beginning of the game. And where was Williams. He's a big brutin back that can, you know, knock some people on their button. I didn't even see. I don't think he
played it. I don't think he played. I don't know if that's that was an injury issue or something like that, but I don't believe he played at all. Well, yeah, hopefully, Well we shouldn't lose. It will be you tap and I think the team showed a lot of heart and we still have won that game. It's you know, sham. It came down to one inch at the end of the game. But it is what it is. And appreciate your guys show. And I think we're gonna win
eight games this year. Guys, I'm not laugh I'm not laughing at you, Albert. I'm laughing with you because I love that. I love the fact that we got people out there who believe they can win eight games. So that's great. Hey, Albert, thanks for the calling, man. Do appreciate it. Thank you, Gay. That's that's I can't even find any games left of this team. Well there's eight brings and and and uh
they let's say they fake all No. Seven of the eight teams that are currently ranked in the eight twenty top twenty five arizone has to play them. Yeah, so that's crazy, and they're legit, they're not kind of legit. The Washington States ranked UCLA's ranked Oregon States rank. We'll go through it. We'll go through the ranks. At the beginning of the whole season, and we were talking about this and I don't want to toot my horn because
it's not ready to be touted yet. But you talked about winning games. I says, Okay, everyone is better, but everybody everybody's got better too. I mean, you know, all you're hearing about is how unfortunate it is that the PAC twelve is so damn good in the year that it's going to dissolve basically, and if they had, if they had been this good two years ago, they'd have a TV contract. Probably true, But isn't it everything about timing? Yeah, this is what it is. It is.
It is all about timing because you just you just never know. But uh no, you know, the season keeps getting because all of a sudden, Colorado is not a not a sure win, right. No, UCLA's ranked, Washington States rank. Those teams you can lose. You can lose all those games. The good thing, it's gonna be fun to watch. People should go to the games. You don't know what team you're gonna see, and it should be fun. Well, this weekend's game, it's an
eight o'clock game, so many people are not going to come. It's it's you know it's an eight o'clock game, it's an hour later, but you should want to go see what this looks like because we've been waiting for this since before you know, Kevin Sumlin got here. So let me ask you. We had a minute, a minute a half, so the line comes out on Sunday comes initially, what what did you think just initially that what would it be there there's on the line against your tape? I thought it
was gonna be in the twenty I thought twenty four. Yeah, I think it is too. I wouldn't tell you where I'm going with it. That should the way they got they just got rolled by a horrible northwestward rolled by those guys. You know, I don't know, so I I you know again, you know, we know every day we've talked to Dana Demil, the head coach of U TAP. You know, he's a good coach. He had a good thing going there a couple of years ago. They're not
very good this year. Seventeen points doesn't seem like very much you know for this No, no, especially with a team that's really pissed that they lost. Yeah, exactly exactly. So, I don't know, but I would think that there's enough going on that you'd be at least curious enough to go out and see what this looks like. You know, ye from games, go play U tap, you know, win a game. You know, you feel like you go to see. If you go, you're gonna go
see a win. And and that's why you go to the games in the first place, which is what people want to do. They want to see. They want to see this team win, they want to see it half success. And and it's exciting football. They're exciting put up some points. I mean, Saturday's game was exciting. His hell. As much as I wanted to throw Amos shoot through the TV in the first quarter, it was an exciting game the whole rest of the days. It was you couldn't get
away from it, really was. It really was, all right, we're gonna take our break. We'll be back with breaking news coming up, so stick around.
