This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez. Sound Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure your most prized possession. It's kat z R TUSA and iHeartRadio Station. So good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jaginsaus. Got our guy Kevin in today on Tuesday. Fifteen minutes available if you want to give us a quick call. It's Tuesday and
really going on. Well we have a good show today. Well you got nothing going on on your computer for sure? I know disappointed. I'm depressed. You know the way we're tied to our electronics. Man, Like you leave your phone behind somewhere, No you naked? Naked? I do that. Let's week do that to the game? I left in my mom say it was at the game. And I'm taking a little mugginn do now I left I left mine in the bathroom at Apple A and He's orchard on Sunday
And would you do have to go back? I go back, you know, I mean I've just gone back out to you know where the food is, which is where you'll normally find me over there. Oh you didn't leave, You didn't leave, didn't. I had to go back to open that it was there because the people would know it's old people problems, and those are anybody problems. You leave that stuff. Well, you know, it's
funny because the way we're tied to our electronics. Right. I was at my business meeting this morning and we had our I T guy who's in the group i'll give give a talk about what he does, and completely freaked me out about getting hacked. Oh, it's happening a lot now. Yeah, And I'm like, you know, it's like he said, if you haven't gotten hacked, you probably If you don't think you've gotten hacked, you probably
have been. And if you haven't been, you're gonna be part of it, because you know, yesterday I got hacked and people, oh, we took over your AP address and blah blah blah. So why do I turn it off? Turn it back on? We took over your IPGA address And I don't know what the hell, but that's happened before, like three or four years ago, and I just turned off and it comes back and really it's fine. Yeah, Well, no, they may have taken it over
because it's soid. It doesn't work, doesn't turn off, it's it's scary, scary enough. I remember the pencil and paper. But you know, on the other hand, you know, I had to do a couple of Zoom interviews today and you know, having that that order program that records the trans and transcribes your interviews, like you don't even have to take notes. No, I don't. That's that's one thing I used said, that's what we use in the you know, the press conferences. I don't take notes
anymore. I just sit there and look at my phone and highlight, you know, comments that I'm you know, I'm sure I'm gonna need. That's all I used to write. Well, welcome to our lives here on the day the episode eight of Days of your Life exactly. Hey, if you guys want to call, please do a lot of stuff going on. I don't know if you want to talk about this right away. Your friend guy I covered, well, you you shared the same dentist, didn't you?
You know we did? You know? I'm torn? Okay, how well I want to bash this guy for because of what he did to this program, But then he's clearly got a problem. Yeah. Right, So on the other hand, you want to be a little sympathetic to that. Mm hmm. But I really don't like the guy, and I and I and I feel like not knowing the guy right and not, I don't know him well. But on the one hand, I feel like he's got a problem.
But I also feel like if he's not gonna try, then why should we try to, you know, cut him in his slat to be nice. Yeah, well we're obviously talking about Kevin someone. Yeah, it happened right after the well the news broke right after the show ended yesterday. I don't know what to think. I mean, it's not a surprise, not surprised, but like I said, do you see she texted, shares comment Twitter, Now, what do you say? Look? Yeah, go look
he he'll commented. I was a bit surprised about that. And obviously he he has insight, as we all do. But he went there and and then made national news when they did the story on someone just where he said not one persons on a surprise. Yeah, he has a history, blah blah blah, whatever it is. Well that's all he's saying. Well that's all I on the one I'm seeing. Oh no, there was another one.
There's no the one, and and he ken he went there and just yeah, I kill Okay, we kind of all knew and just too bad. I mean, I don't know, what do you say? What do you say? Well? Well, I mean that that's the truth. You know who you know who is surprised? I mean, you know those of us who saw him covered him. Uh oh, he says, Kevin someone has a major alcohol that one. Yeah. Yeah, we all heard stuff, right do I did I see any of that myself? No? I
heard things. You heard things. We all heard things. You know you hear you hear it enough you think it's probably true, right, but you know who knows for sure? Only a few people probably right, right? But not Yeah? But no, yeah, but no read the rest of it. This is not coming from us. Yeah, yeah, should I read the Yeah? Okay, it's public sero posted Kevin someone has a major alcohol issue. He was out in the open, and I have multiple stories.
I have no idea how Arizona didn't want to fire him for cause would have been an easy case. Not so should have been an easy case. But unless they had, you know, specific things like police reports Uh, you know witness accounts of I was with him and he did this incident, incident stuff like that. That that's that's difficult. Also, you know I was, I was telling you you know the story that that I You know that I the thing that I witnessed, right, Uh, maybe a different
situation. Well, I was, I was the head of the pr but this was in house. This was in house. This was in house. But when I'm a two two songdlect trick, I come in on a Monday and we find out that, uh, an employee, a union employee, so that might make a difference, had wrecked gotten into d U. I have wrecked a utility truck, you know, returning from a job, gotten the d U. I got a rest in the truck, in the company,
in the company vehicles. He was on the job, probably on his way home, got hammered somewhere and got on you know the rest of you won't gotten wrecked. He checked himself into rehab before anybody a TEP found out about it, so he could not be fired because he was then considered an
employee with a disability. And so you don't know situations like that. If if let's say someone had done something or whatever, whether or not you don't know if you can fire him if they determine he's got some kind of alcoholism
as a disability. So there's a lot of different things. I know, guys get fired, Employees get fired for duys all the time, coaches and stuff like that, and maybe there's something in their contract that says, you convin these offenses any felony or a dui or you know, YadA YadA YadA, you're fired. He probably can't, but it's sad. It's I'm angry still and what he did here. Now. I love the fact that things are getting turned around, but we spent how many years with the worst program
in America? Yeah? Three? Three years? A few wins, it is. I can't say this what it is. We'll see what happens. It seems to me that would be hard for him to keep that joke. Yeah, yeah, but you know what do you I don't know. The guy needs the guy needs somebody to help him out. Well, I think he had some help here, all right, but you know what, you gotta want to be helped, sure, of course, of course. Okay,
so let's move on from that. At least we got out of that so a big game on Saturday, another big game, which line is still the same. I haven't seen it again. Last night last I thought it was four. Okay, it was three and a half. Last time I checked, it was like five minutes ago. Oh okay, so it's going down. I figured it the other way. I figured it would be because I think there'd be a lot of money on the ares old. Like we said yesterday, I think Simon said the money line bet on. That sounds
a little tasty. I happen to have the stats, okay, because that's what I do. There are stats. There are one, two, three, four, five, six, seven teams that have only one loss against the spread, and Arizona's one of them. Arizona. Actually I have Arizona's five in one because that's the NAU game, doesn't you know. But they covered the NAU game. Spread came up in DraftKings and they covered that.
So they're actually six and one. It's Arizona, Georgia State, James Madison Old Dominion Penn State didn't cover for the first time this week, and crazy U NLV and your friend and ours Rich Rich Rodd in Jacksonville State. He's but he's only three and one because I have spreads on his non Division one games. But Arizona's you know, top team against the spread. But then again, you know Oregon State. I'm sure it's pretty well up there to Let's take this away, right, Hi, Hi, You're on the air
and I on the ball. How's it going today? What's up? Brian? What? Uh? You know? Then? Kevin? Someone saying I don't really care, you know, he goes the program into the ground. I just hope for his sake he solves the problem he has he can move on with in his life. You know. Yeah, you clearly don't hold grudges like I do. I think you should. And you know we lost you for a second there. Do you hear what he said? Brian, I'm sure you did. You clearly don't hold grudges like I do. Yeah,
or Jay Jay does, especially like another stuff. Jay holds grudges the game seasons and stuff like, Man, what do you tell you? J Jay is mister grudge? Oh he is? I mean, well, you know it's that is his ticks are I guess you should have grudges on stuff. I don't. Yeah, you know, and I don't know that.
I want to talk to you anyo this game this weekend. Ye, And it's one of these things where Arizona could we have five games left, Arizona could win five games, or they could lose all five, or they could be two and three, three and two, four and when we don't know. Yeah, yeah, I think you said that last week too, right, I didn't distribute. I agree with that completely, you know what I and I think fans in general feel that they feel like they can win them
all, but they also understand. You look what a su did to Washington last week, right, you know, you know, and Colorado clearly can beat you. So yeah, no, anything can happen, and that's kind of the fun of it, but it's kind of nerve wrecking when you go to the game. Yeah, I seem to think that Colorado is starting to employ I agree with you. I agree with you. I just I just see problems occurring. You know, maybe the expectations were too high for that
team after the start, and things aren't. People are figuring them out and they're figuring how to plan and they're just not, you know, not that good right now, and it's causing the set and problems on the team. Yeah, we'll see. I think high expectations from from the selves or whatever. But people have no expectations to begin the year. Remember when they played TCU and they're playing very fairly well and everyone's like shocked, look at it.
They're playing pretty well. And then they win and they say, oh wow. And then they win again and he says, oh wow, maybe they are good. And then they win again and they're thinking, oh wow. But but they didn't play anybody. I think they played the team, no winning team right, no winning teams right, so realistically, and then ASU took him to the man. So yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean after watching that ASU Washington game, it's going to be you know,
I don't know what we're going to see when we play. Maybe by then they'll be there'll be one in ten and they'll be depleted and they don't really care anymore. Right. No, I agree with you too, am I agree with you now because you said you were turning into me. But is this a courtesy? Yeah, no, it's you know, it's got my life has become pathetic. Well, you are listening to the show, so that's the start that could be part of my problem. Yes. Hell,
my name is Brian Little. I have a problem. Like you know, I don't want to say this, but I feel like Kevin someone I'm having all these problems in life now that maybe have to blame it on the show. We'll see, we'll see he's too many miles away. Thanks for calling me, VI right, I called him Kevin. No, this is Kevin right here. What do you got? What do you got? Rottenman on your shirt? This is Kobe Bryant. Ok I can't see, I hear you see the yellow shirt? The brand actually is made by Max Hazard.
Okay, yeah, okay, okay, okay, cool. Thanks Brian throwing the call. We've got a couple of minutes. Today's show will have, Yeah, we will have starting off with Reggie Gary will toximars on a basketball with him, see what he thinks and what he's seeing. He's obviously, you know, former player, but also Waldcat Sports twelve ninety color analyst does some of the games. So reg will give us his early impressions and maybe maybe we'll try to get a prediction out of him. And then a
nice guest as somebody who've never had before. She has been here very long, but Kaylen Gilbert, who presumably is going to be the starting point guard for women's basketball front Where's she from? We have to look that up, but she's a sophomore. She played she played behind SHANEA. Pellington last year, so she's kind of the heir apparent. And the women have their exhibition
opener tomorrow, so we'll see what that's going to look like. So we'll talk to her a little bit about some some thoughts and expectations for both for her and the team. So we'll talk to Kaylen Gilbert here in a little bit. So what are we just three fourteen? We're gonna get Reggie in about three four minutes. Okay, let's do that, all right, Let's
hit our break and Reggie Gearing who we get back. On Tucson's sports station, Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to one on the Ball Heil Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Riverta. He's Jagensauce and on the phone we have former you've a cat geary. How you doing, Reggie, I'm doing good, doing good. Thanks trying me on? Yeah, no, good to have you
on. Let me say I went to the game on Friday as you did too. You worked it that Jay was there, and I was watching the backcourt and I'm thinking to myself, you know what, this looks familiar to me, and let me tell you where, and I don't, and you would say, yeah, you're n it's uh. It's the back court that we saw was with Boswell and and Love and who was the third guy? Was a group. Yeah, there was a group of you know, a
very good they have a bunch of them. And I'm thinking, you know what this is nineteen ninety five, ninety six, ninety four, ninety five, whatever it was with with Khalid, Reggie and Damon. Do you see some similarities? Yeah? No, I definitely some similarities to that ninety three, ninety fourteen and the fact that it's ak a three guard offense. Everyone daft what everybody brings a little something different to the table, but together and
that really can work. You know, I don't know quite. I don't know that they you know, pass over the mantel and saying that, you know, Boswell and in Love and Katy Lewis or you know, to the level of Damist out of mich Libreeze. But in terms of similarities, I
definitely think, you know, it's definitely there. And that's what happened me so excited watching the games and when there was a moment there halfway through the half when they really turned up the pressure, turned up the physicality defensively and we're getting out to people, and I was like, Okay, this looks this is interesting. This this could be a lot of fun. You know. I think one of the things that I that I like Reggie about.
You know, what I saw those guys is they'll do either thing right but go to the hole or they'll you know, pull up and you and shoot a three you know. And I know, you know, I don't don't want to bring Well. I'm going to bring him into it. I'm gonna bring Kirk cries into it, you know. He he just wasn't able to go to the hole as physically as these guys are already. You know. Uh uh Kylon does it really well, but Caleb didn't, you know.
And kJ and and uh And and Jade all went to the rack, and it was great to see that they get went in there physically, didn't get pushed around, you know, and to see that, I think is a big It's gonna be a big thing too for all all of those guys to be able to do that most definitely, you know, when you have guys that play that way and and just in and looking at you know, especially
when you look at Boswell Love and kaj Lewis. You know, Jade's a little bit smaller in terms of his physical stature, but like all those guys have big shoulders that are all athletics. They have the ability to get to the lane. And so when I see that, Yeah, they can't breeze, but it's nice the fact that they can break down people, get to
the rim, get to the free throw line. You know, when you're getting high percent of shot and you start doing those free throw battles, you know, those are the things that really you know fair you farewell in high level games. So I love the fact that cale Love is getting to the hole there and using his body and and I'm with you. You know that's something needs to be you know, it just can't be one hundred and fifty three from each guy. It's got to be you know, some threes,
but also mix it in getting into the lane as well. So I want you to be to be your analysts now uh uh you unlessly that you usually do, and be critical if you can be. Last year, that team lacked what it lacked in the back court a go to guy, somebody who with the you know who, they would would have the basketball in their hands, it could make decisions. Kirk Criesa was a good basketball player, but
he wasn't really good at making others around him better. You know. A Zulah Sabellis was a fantastic I'm not, you know, a very very good college basketball player, but he was you know, he's in that four or five positions, so he needed somebody to kind of get him the basketball. So they were missing at Ben Matther and that could live read some of those names in the past that you could just give them a Ball and they could
go out there it's you twenty twenty five. And I think this potentially that filould Love is the first candidate, is being an experienced guy who's actually played on a big stage. And then I think Boswell over time can develop into one of those guys as well to go along with with Jaden and others. Yeah, that's what I wanted to go with. So now they got that solved. With the guys you just mentioned, Yeah, okay, yeah, I mean it looks like to me, and then you know, then he
just keeps rolling in these you know, seven foot eight guys. That's just a whole bunch of them. There's just a whole bunch of those guys. No, there is. I mean we have four seven footers on the roster, which is you know, a great luxury for for coach Lloyd AND's have to kind of you know, Bill and Anderson really did a nice job the other night with with with you know, Omar Ballo and Mosti. Crevi is
now and so he's got some options there. We haven't even talked about Kashad Johnson his ability to play three four in a five edition Make Ball with him at the five, they can play big with him at the four. You know, they can do a lot of different things, and so, you know, I just have a lot of depth, a lot of weapons, and I think that flexibility is really going to play out throughout the season two to our benefit. Yeah. You know what I said I liked about Kashaun
Johnson was that he walks on the court and he looks pissed off. Uh and he looks mean and he's looked to get out of my way kind of guy. Yeah. I mean he's dynamics, he's athletics. I mean that reversed up, he cut off the alley loop. I mean that was big
time. You know, a friend of mine I mentioned it the other day, you know, aired him to Aaron Gold and I thought, you know what, that's not a back of Harrison the open floor runs well to give to him on the block, and just has a high motor, like you say, just kind of plays a little bit of chip on the shoulder. So and you need those type of guys, and so I think he's gonna
be really valuable to share. Yeah, I was gonna ask you, Okay, I know this is gonna be a biased question from to a guard to a former guard, So, so on a team like this, where does it all begin, uh, in the back court or in the front court? Because you have so many good players in the in the back court,
but you also have so many good players in the front court. I mean, I think, and I think Andrew, that question probably starts in the back court, just because predominantly those guys, you know, their decision makers with the ball. You know, Boswell is a playmaker. He's gonna make majority of decisions in terms of you know, on the break and in the half court. So I think kind of set the tone offensively and defensively. And so I think it starts with the guards. And in Arizona has a
really nice you know, some older guards, some younger guards. So I think it starts in the back. So with the with the schedule they've got coming up, and you know, right out of the right out of the box, you've got Duke in the second regular season game, what do you what do you think you what do you think you have to see the most improvement in in order to take on the schedule that they've got in What do they have to be a whole lot better at? A good question? I
mean, it's a brand new team. So it's a little hard to answer, but I think, you know, obviously defensively, if they could play at that high level, uh of that physicality and kind of being the aggressors, you know. I think last year at times we weren't always aggressors, you know, we would I don't know, we were too cool for school or just whatever it was that sometimes we were a little bit laid back.
I think this team, with the depth and if what this isn't they have has a has an opportunity always kind of to set the tone aggressively on a defensive end and often league just to have a good balance that inside outside it. You know, Tomy runs a great system there, you know, where they share the basketball, they have a high low they play in transition.
So I think defensively, if they can show that they can, you know, play with a little bit of edge offensively, continue to share the basketball as they do as well as anybody in the country, I think we'll be in good shape. Yeah. No, there's a lot of hype for this is that there's a lot of hype for this team. I know in nineteen ninety three, ninety four there wasn't and then you guys came around, but the year later that you guys were the number one team going into the country
into the season and didn't live up to it. How how difficult is living up to it part of it? I mean, it can be if it's something you're you know, you're you're, it's you're constantly thinking of or playing on your mind. I think if Arizona team is coming in at number twelve, it's it's perfect. You know, it's right there, It's right down the middle of the road in terms of the top twenty five team they have. There's definitely a lot of questions still to be answered, but I don't
think they should feel any pressure that they have to do anything. The dude game is going to be an astutely fantastic night and a fantastic game, But it doesn't really mean all that much in advanced scheme of things because it is so early and Arizona still has and do it probably most likely have to have a long way to go before you know, we'll see a final a final product in March and April. But it is a good indicator of where you're
at. So I think as long as they just keep everything focused on on on the team, and what they're trying to do and what they're trying to accomplish. The pressure kind of goes away and then you just kind of do what you're supposed to do. So it's it's the fair wall. It's the farewell Tour for the PAC twelve. If you had a chance to look around the league and and you know, see what, see what's out there for
for this season? Uh, you know, it obviously starts with the USC and U c l A. But you know who else is out there? Yeah, you know, I haven't really jumped into as much as as much as as I would like to have, just because you know, we're still it's still early on, but obviously you knows and what they're bringing back in the recruiting class, and they've got a lot of hype going around that program. I never I never discount Orgon and and Dana Allman and kind of John
he does there. I know they's down the last couple of years, but I think they're dude to I'll be, you know, bounce back a little bit. U c l A. I'm not as familiar with who they replace some of the horses with, but I'm sure it's U c l A. So they'll have some good teams. So the Pac twelve will be will be, will be competitive as always. But my main focus right now is just
kind of on Arizona and how we're gonna start this season. So I'm, you know, always the guy with the bearer of bad news or very bad questions. So so you you went, you went to the final four, ninety four, ninety five, you lost early, so and I know you were you were concerned a lot because of what happened when you were from senior in high school and then you came back, Uh, these first round losses. How did the guys get past that? Yeah? Question? You know.
For for me, you know, my senior year, it was it was I had the model in my mind, I not on my watch. It was kind of the thing I had had to worked into year that this was not this is not happening on my walk, and it was playing with that a little bit of a stick on on my shoulder of being coming off in an embarrassing walls and then there's no way else around it. Yeah, it's unfortunate, but I was embarrassed. You know, here we are,
the University Arizona losing in the first round. Well, he's not gonna happen next year? How do I make sure it doesn't happen. I have a great off season, getting away, get my shots up. My focus is just a little bit sharper than maybe it would have been on the casual year, so this doesn't occur again. And I think if that's the mindset going into a season, that sets you up. Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jake got Kevin and today got twelve minutes. If you guys want to give us a quick call five two oh fourty, it'll be great. Yep. You know, we uh a lot of great discussion. I love what Reggie said about about the guards because you know he obviously he knows, and you know, I'd run a bash on Kirk Cries. But he was a different guard from all all four of the guards that they got. He was a different guy,
different, different player. Work. I thought he worked hard. I know people you know, got on him about his antics and stuff, but he was a good basketball player. Still is. He's in West Virginia. It'll be interesting different you know, without question, it's it's a it's a more stable backcourt. Well, it's a more stable and certainly more athletically yeah, gifted or whatever, a more Athleticurt with those four, no question. And you can go to a variety of guys to fill that role, not just
one. Because if he, if Kurt was not on, you didn't get any you didn't have anybody else, you know, and and that showed the last two years you just did. Yeah, I mean, and and we talked about this. We talked about this a lot. Jay uh. In the last well the first three weeks of the football season, Kerr and and Jayden are the same player. They're the same player. You don't know which Kurt, which guy you're gonna get. You're going to get good good Jayden,
bad Jayden? And in in moments your momentum thing, there's two good plays momentum the third play. Am I wrong? Kid? I think I think the fit was the thing with Kerr. I think he's a like you said, Jay he's a fine basketball player. I think it's just not what that team needed to be the best that year. Well again, and you know what and what Reggie said, he said Kerr, you know, Zulus needed to have Kerr do things, and there were days that Kerr didn't do
those things. So not only was Kurr not doing those things, but then it really kind of held a Zulus back from doing the things that he could do. You know, when and when you got the guys that they have not again, Kashaw Johnson is a key shot of Cahot. Whatever we whatever, we'll figure it out. But I'm telling you, man that that guy, I for some reason immediately thought of Pete Williams because you know, Pete Williams looked pissed off on the court. Yeah, he usually was, and
he was ready. He wanted to take your head off, and that kind of player, and that's why he was the player that he was. He was. He was six foot seven, but he was a beast underneath the back. That's funny because I didn't cover him back then. You saw him. Yeah, and I'm trying to think about I've been very impressed with him too. Physically. Yeah, I don't. I don't have to go back. And you know, you compared him to Ronde Rondels had a smile on
his face. Yea to direct players. He had a smile on his face, and you know he was out there playing and having fun. Yeah, I'm trying to think of a guy who just walked out on the court and just wanted to beat the hell out of you physically. Yeah, no, I'll give it to you right now. I'll tell you right now, Geene Edgerson, there you go. But Jean was never he starter. He was. He was never a guy that was on the court. You know, at the start of the game, he'd come in and beating a force and
he'll had he had elbows. Somebody in the face and then he'd come out of the game. There was the Also the guy from for Seawn's team was the no easy buckets guy. Oh yeah, Kevin Parram that I pulled a name him. But he wasn't this guy either, right, you know, right, they were all kind of this guy liked right. You know again, Kevin param would go out there and in force, but he wasn't going to hit you at three no, right, he wasn't going to score you
some points. He might get you some rebounds, but he wasn't going to be a guy through the whole game. Let's was making an impact. Let's also not annoy Yeah yeah, because we haven't seen him yet in person. But let me say you, if I were a betty man, I would bet that he is. That I like the way he looked, just like the way the presence that he had on the court. Sure, I really
like that what I saw a lot. Now you understand that I I only see things between plays, right, Yeah, you know, I didn't see his behind the head dunk because I you know, as soon as the ball went up in the air, you know, but I saw the replay of it. But you know, and it's not even those things it's just his physicality underneath and his aggressiveness underneath. Sure, we were talking about that at the table, like he's not gonna take any crap from anybody. Yeah,
you know. And also he's an older dude. He's an older dude. He's been there, done that, gone to the final four. And what're you gonna say, Well, you have never been to the final four? Shut up? Yeah, you know, saying he's got that credibility exactly exactly. But you know, Arizona needs to get back. Let me tell you, Jay, everyone, as much as you guys joke about it, talk about it, I joke about it, YadA YadA, it's been it's been twenty three years. They got to get back. They gotta get back.
Well, the thing is, they think about the great teams. Okay, they were those guys. They had an enforcer, they were physical, They had a guy that was more complete Mike Baby, who could do so many things. It was complete on that had a guy like Sean Alley who can do so many things. You know, Tomtober, we make fun of him because it's just kind of a big, old fat guy out there doing stuff. But he was good. He was good, and he didn't take crap.
Yeah, no, no, this is the two thousand and one team, you know, with you know all those guys, you know, Michael Wright and all those guys. This is and we talked about this two days ago, whatever it was. Maybe we'll get right on in here too. This to me, this is the most complete team in the last it last
week? Was it? Last week? Oh? I was? I was just actually I was gonna ask you talking about the more complete team thing, when is the last time you guys coming into a season thought, because we're talking a lot about the like a variety of options this team traditionally, when's the last time you're coming into a season like where are the holes? Yeah? Yeah, no, that's where I was gonna go. I think since the twenty fifteen year when they lost to Wisconsin the second time and the first
time. But because it's the same team that this feels like that where if there's good at every spot, but these teams even better because it has more people in the in the bench that you there's no drop off at least you don't think that. You don't think that. But even more so, more than any I think the biggest deal is going to be the four guys at the guard spot, just those four having four guys like that, where if Colin Boswell has to come out and take a blow, another guy goes in.
Who can do all the things that Boswell does. Okay, so between both of you guys, and I was gonna ask tell me this at the press conference. Okay, you got all these guys, who's your shooter that we don't know? People say it's gonna be Caleb Love, you know, gonna be him, you know, could be Boswell. He's so nonchalant about it. You know, he finds open. He just shoot. Yeah, so he's not. And then as we were talking to Reggie, it just brought me back to ninety four. He's got the same type of body of
of of Clid, big body, wide, rings and legs. It's just a big dude, like a big dude. But but Clid was just goin nonchalant. He'd love you to death and didn't score on you. He was so smooth, so smooth, he was just just he just clated. He floated. He floated with a with an aggression. I think Boswell has some of that, but he's just so big you card to notice it. I mean Clid could take it in the hole on anybody anytime. Yeah. You know, I had a buddy who said he could score every time he gets
the ball. I don't know why he doesn't, no question, because he had Damon and he had other guys. You had the guys, and if you would have said Clid do that, he would have smiled for the first time in his life. And he would have done it because he also had a coach named Lout who wouldn't allow him to do that. Yeah. But look, and I know me. You know, we're talking about, as
you said, we're talking about this team that we've barely seen. But you know, when you see some of the pieces and how they look so so far, you kind of wonder they I mean, it looks like it all it's all gonna fit. We'll find out, well, no, no better then we go, oh you know, you know what's gonna happen. And and again, I look, let's warn the fans. Do not expect them to win. And do I hope they can win. Sure, I think they can win. Sure expect it and be pissed off if they don't stop.
One of the things jay I saw when I was selling a book to people, Uh, a few months ago they and they about the book, says, people tell me one of the guys, my friends, my colleagues, said that should have had more than one championship. I had this conversation with you, more than one conversation, one more, one more championship. But I'm thinking, okay, here here we'll have to kind of defend Loot. So he had the talent, a lot of talent. Which's just he
had a lot of talent. Other teams have a lot of talent too, and you have to be lucky good. The talent in the league. There was Montgomery's and they got to the finals too, But you have to be lucky good and all that stuff. And they did. They have a chance to. Yes, but other teams have to have big time rosters as well, the Dukes, the Kansas, and then you got to be lucky.
I mean, you think think about the championship game against Duke, and you know the call on on Jason Gardner that didn't get called and things like that that happened in a game. Well, you know, Gilbert Reinas got hurt, you know Luke. Yet let me say this too. I was with some of yesterday and he was saying it was the most unsuspecting team to win a title in three years for you, Arizona, Arizona, Are you kidding me that they had no business winning now exactly when every and every chance went
into the next year. I mean, I think to the end, Steve wasn't wasn't that the team that finished lowest in the pack? Well if for Luke ten ever, not ever, not ever? They finished fifth under Loop. I know they finished fifth under Loop, But what I'm saying, didn't they wasn't that the team that finished the lowest in loots years? Well he didn't didn't finish out high his first year, Okay, after the first after the first year, right, yeah, yeah, possibly, I haven't even
thought of that. Possibly they finished fifth in the and then they went and won the dang national champions and then almost lost the first round. What the hell was that? And they was lost in the well, almost lost in the first round, they almost lost in the third in the in the lit
eight, Sweet sixteen, Sweet sixty. Well, yeah, you know, so not second shot Okay, no, no, yeah, no. I like reminiscing about the good old days, but I you know, I more than anything, I think people are you know, people that I talked to and saying, I'm really looking forward to the season because it looks like it's gonna be really fun. It's no question that. I mean, it's been fun the last two I think last year was less fun than the first year
because the first year happened with such no expectations. Then last year there were a lot of expectations, and there was some frustration with certain things, you know, and they lost some games at home and stuff like that. But I think people see him. Maybe it's because the guys like us who are telling people they got a bunch of really good players. They're sure, really good. Sure, but when when the fans in this town or Arizulta fans
should know every year they're going to be good. How good we don't know? And I say this all the time. I get a minute, I have. Have you met my girlfriend? She's very pretty. She's great looking in November, great looking in December, great looking in January and February. Come March, the prettiness whears are she be able to better, be able to cook? She's better for the three weeks. Pres you understand what I'm saying. This team for sure looks great for this time and then March come
you said, oh no, and there's a real hard schedule. They can lose a bunch of those. Sure, you know when Brian Peterson said, you say they can lose, what do you say, I'm thinking there's no way. And then I'm thinking, yeah, I guess, so, yeah, I guess. So I don't think the lose five games in the conference. I think I don't know that the conference is that good. But there's twenty games. Agree with twenty. I think they go like sixteen and four,
seventeen and three in the league. I only see a couple of teams that, yeah, they have to be healthy, all that stuff, all those things. Yeah, and they gotta do well on the road. But uh, you know, I I don't even see U C l A or your USC being at their level. So we'll see what happens there. Okay, you gotta take a break. I'm gonna pray here comes on comes all right, let's go and take our break. Uh, Kevin series got break the news for us. We've got all kinds of stuff, right, Kevin.
Indeed, he says he does, all right, and then Kaylin Gilbert at about uh actually probably about four to twenty coming back after the top of the hour, so stick around. This ceiling can hold I like this ceiling can hold down. We go down.
