Welcome to I on the Ball Hero Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jacob Zaus. Got our guy Kevin in today for Tuesday and our last show of the week, Our last show of the week. Merry Christmas, thank
Happy Thanksgiving, every all that whatever. We'll be back. Actually we'll be back next week. Yeah we will. You know. Yeah, we could take it oneth and a half off, but you know, we need we need it. We need we need tomorrow off to get ready to eat. Yeah yeah, then we need Thursday off to eat. Uh huh. Then we need Friday off to get recover from the eating. I'm gonna go somewhere where I should never go because I really don't want to know the answer.
But do you already have your stretching pads available? Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. You know it's a it's a all day think for us because you know, back one hundred years ago, we started a turkey bowl, right, and so we so now all the all the dads and everybody we don't play in, our kids play, so that that starts. That starts at nine o'clock in the morning. So they do that for a couple of hours. Then most you know, we're the hosts for our family Thanksgiving,
for my brothers and everybody. So we uh so everybody comes to our house after the turkey ball, So they're there all day and we're watching football and everybody's in their stretchy pants. So and then we eat and then we lay around in our stretching pants again. After that. We can probably see there's some coaching shorts and ball coaching coaching, maybe those yester things. Oh man, remember we played softball in and yeah, yeah, yeah, I
got more of the baggy basketball shorts going. I could probably put one leg into my old ones. Now, that's all. We were hot in those. What do you mean, wen, we weren't fat yet, we were not fat three fat days. I wouldn't, man, I wouldn't exactly what I can't even imagine, I mean, what that would look like right now, get them to my knees and said never mind. Yeah, hey, everybody you want to call, please do we watch Show of the week. We're gonna be making our picks on our own by Thursday. Right now,
somebody will make them. Maybe by Thursday we'll post them up on our social pick. I don't I don't know if I'll pick anything on Thursday. Yeah. Well we both had the crap ass chiefs last night. Man, play with your food and see what happens. Yeah, that's exactly what, Play with your food. It's like, you know, they play around. They dominated that game except for that bomb. Yeah, they were up ten. I'm like, I got this, I got this, and then they pooped
the proverbial bed good, get out of here. You know what again, as I said, at least as decency lose that they weren't going to cover, right, they didn't cover, So they lost. Great. They had every chance to win the game in so many ways and they didn't. Twell, it's just what it is. Well, you know, and all the all the all the Travis Kelsey, you know conversation. You know what he was thinking about, Taylor instead of thinking about catching that freaking ball. That
question like that, I don't know that's funny because that'd be stupid. Question. But it'd be funny answer. I'm sure you know, because she wasn't at the game, right, so he wasn't showing off for her. So and the other girlfriends say, what about me and my Childboliver? Yes, compared to her, Well, she's just famous. Yeah, she's just famous and very very wealthy and very well. There's two two. Okay, she's a little hote, not your type. No comment, no comment. If
I say yes, I'm bad. If I say no, I'm bad, I'm saying no comment. I don't know the matter with you guys. Answer, no answer, babe, Hey you know why? As Jordan said, Republicans by Tennis, Hue, soda, Democrats, God anyway. But yeah, I'm very upset with the Chiefs, upset with the Lions. They both both those games, both those teams this weekend pissed me off. Yeah. More importantly, the Cats go up to the game on Sunday, I think they're twelve, page twelve. You gonna say something, Oh no, the
football, the line, I think it's gone to twelve. They've gained two points. I have not seen that. I told me last night last night, and I think, oh wow, from ten to twelve could be even higher. Now, well, people are jumping on you know, people are finding out about them, right, yeah, you know, I mean, well, let me ask you something. Let me ask you something. Both you guys, uh, nationally nationally, Who isn't Arizona one of the top
one or two stories nationally? That's I mean, there's a lot of people saying that who they should be? Like the national shows that I listened to, what are they saying? You know, they're saying that Arizona is one of the one of the more compelling stories of the year, right because of the turnaround, because and because I think part of it, Steve is because Jedfish was not seen as a great hire not you know, while he was a football coach for Numbers Together, never played football. He is a tennis
player. Right, so the odds, you know, people felt the odds were stacked. Again. It was kind of you know a lot of people made fun of the hire and then this has happened and people are going, holy hell, you know, we did we miss on this? So yeah, so you know, let me say this. I think that he's the guy that ASU hoped Herman would be. And I say that. I say that because he's the CEO of the grid and Jed is that guy, not that he's not a football coach, because you could tell he's got a lot
of trick plays under his sleeve. And I was play calling and then he knows how to handle people. Uh. But you know what I'm saying, her was supposed to be that guy bringing in some pretty good coaches and then works from magic, right, and and and and he you know, and so I think it was he was saying, it's not somebody that you would think could do this, right, that Arizona went on the cheap, got somebody inexpensive, got somebody that nobody else was after, and kind of like,
Okay, come what did you think exactly that? Right? You know, honestly, I don't know anybody who didn't think otherwise. You're in the You're if there's a box here, you're in that box. I mean, I'm more in that box than in the box of oh this this is There's nobody in that box. There's nobody box unless your name is fish. Yeah. And so you know, so I think that that adds to the story. You know, You're like, I went I went to watch the full
sixty minute version of the game. You know, and just you know, the announcers in the game, just you know, and Yogi Roth was one of them, you know, just talking about how guys, this is, this is one of the biggest stories in college football. They're they're kind of like somebody called them the darlings of college football, Like everybody's rooting for them because they've been so bad and all of a sudden they're good. You know.
That kind of stuff is what it is. What you hear, Well, they're still in love with Dion and maybe it's not the right word. Well, they're quoting the hell out of him every chance I get. Yeah, but he's also going to finish in the last place. Yeah. And no, at the end of the day, that's where the water fell. Yeah, and and so the shine came off of that. And and now
it's kind of like, wow, Arizona's story. He hasn't brought any receipts to the table in a long time because there's no reason to be shopping hume, right, No, no, right, yeah, talk about the line for theirs for the AIG. It's still ten and a half. But really, Okay, so someone told me last night was hard rock? Uh hard rock? Uh? Uh? Sports book. Hasma has it at nine in
it well, and everybody else is still at ten and a half. The only thing I'm concerned about is something that the jet is not concerned about,
is uh, Well, it's not that he's not concerned. I'm more concerned about the craziness that happens in this game because there's things that you could never even think of when it happens, and you know, and and and and you kind of be worried if you know, if one side of the ball versus the other was you know, if there's not the balance that they have, Yeah, on both sides of the ball, because I feel like if the offense doesn't have a great day, well the defense, you know,
can hold it together and vice versa. Uh and so I shouldn't even say this, but I'm gonna say it. I'm I am less worried about this one than I have been for this game in a really long time. Yeah, you just changed it, I did. But but you know, I understand Steve A. S u is really bad. I understand that I'm gonna making fun of him. I'm not saying that to make fun of him. They're a very bad team right now. I think it's wasn't it the same
thing three four years ago? Whatever? Wherever the Issue came in thinking these guys suck, and then they did and they did it sucked as bad as anybody it sucked in this rivalry ever. And and look, I'm not sitting here thinking Orizon is gonna go up there and put a fifty on them or whatever. I just feel like Arizona is so solid across the board that even if Face Who plays its best game, I don't think they can beat it. Yeah, because I'll say, I'll say I don't think they should beat
them. But again, you have to guard against all the weird stuff that can happen, and and and and sometimes it does. You know, some some somebody gets loose and and and goes crazy and does things there. Yeah, you get an injury or whatever, anyone of a number thing. But Issue doesn't even have a quarterback right now, what does the kid say? Yeah, yes, the game. I mean, honestly, I think we really could put something on him this weekend, uh like kind of what Jay
was talking about. And we're just better all around, really well more well rounded football team, better coached then we have, we have something going for us. Yeah, were you Were you a student when they hammered seventy to seven year? Yeah? How did that feel? I didn't we were bad? So yeah, I didn't really care because, like because I had no expectation for the football team to impress me at all. So this is the first year where I feel like there are actual expectations. Yeah. And when
you said that, he jink said, I was thinking. I was like, well, we kind of have to stop thinking that way, because I think this is actually a football program now. Yeah, you know what I mean? Yeah, I mean, yeah, exactly the exactly one you know, from Washington State onto this last week. You kind of had the little doubts in your head about whether they're really that good. Right, you have
to let that go and say they're really that good. Here's the problem though, once you start letting that go, well we can we can do that, they can't do it right, right, right? They can't do that. They can't. And I'd like to I wonder do you think he gets fired up jet jet with him? Yeah? You do? Oh yeah, like how do you see that? Do you see it? Like the locker room videos and stuff like? Maybe not like you know, he's a he's
a he's a motivational Parker kind of guy. You know, go watch the go watch the you know, the Sounds of the season that that that's the department does for each game, just even just the last one. They even show him in there at halftimes, you know, saying, you know, this is the last thirty minutes a lot of you're gonna play or this is the last thirty minutes we're playing on this field this year. What's is the presentation? Though? What's his? What's his? Oh? I mean he
is he is he fire brimstone guy. No, but he does get animated. Football Instagram puts out some pretty good content after games when we do win. Uh well, I see the singing and the dancing and he was pretty fair. The sound of the Sounds of the season thing, which great videos that he's got that you have a football program. Does they do one for for I think every win. I don't know if they do it for every
game. I think they do them for every win. And uh the one, this the one this week you get you catch Jed pre game and then you even catch him at halftime. So he's you know, he's he's motivating. He tries to motivate these guys with his he gives speeches, is what I'm saying. You know, is he you know, throwing stuff around and you know, tearing things apart. He's not doing that, but he's you know, he's telling these guys you know how much this should mean to that.
To me, it would be more like he's more of a philosopher type of coach. You know, he gets excited and loud and animated and stuff. Okay to me, okay, being that you know, I'm twenty years older than him, and you know, it's like my kid trying to you know, get me excited. I tell you, you know, it doesn't. It doesn't resonate as much to me, and I assume it resonates with the player. Yeah, well it's much better than the weekend at Bernie's.
Guy that they had before just wasn't wasn't really there. Honestly, he was with no emotion or as Gabe would call him, Kevin Bumblin. That's a good one one. No, No, he's you know, he does he does the whole deal, and I feel like he doesn in a way that he helps these guys think of things that they might not be thinking. Yeah, which is great because he is smart like that, right, he is
smart like that. He's been around excuse and he's been around coaches that have been really good motivators, right right, without having to be you know, crazy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, because he is. He is nonchalant, but in a you know, good nonchalant because I mean, you know, those of us who've been around for one hundred years, you know heard the legends of Tom Rogman and and the and the speeches that you know he
would tear a locker room apart. Yeah. Well, and and you know Dick was and wasn't depends on the time, right, if you really pissed, had guys there that did, right, We're gonna have Dwayne and Keenan those Oh, I have one of the guys to the players, well the players, KiB and Kim Calvinian who you know a lot And we'll we'll see if if he I'm sure he's had to have heard this, but you know, Calvin Ethan was has long been considered the guy who was sort of the
heart and soul of that team. He was a captain, he was a leader. He was a don't take any crap kind of guy that a lot of people feel that without him that team would not have done what it did going twelve and one and really being one game away from playing for championship, not just and we'll talk about the importance of that. So I just got a text. How do I find Sounds of the Season. Uh, you
can probably find it. And you can find it on you have a Facebook page, on their on their Twitter, Google wor Google maybe yeah, on the Twitter county. It's on YouTube. Go to YouTube YouTube Arizona Sounds of the Season on YouTube and you and you'll find him. They're all there for the whole season. We'll do that as well. Yeah. And then uh, then Brian Jefferies, we're gonna we're gonna get him in one last time before he heads off to all these things he's got going this week. He's
got the Michigan State game on Thursday. Yeah, uh in basketball, and then he's got the he'll be back and he'll do the A SU game on Saturdays. We want to talk to Brian Jefferies probably about both of these things. Yeah, I'm going I don't know do we did we ever ask him what's his what his favorite A s U Arizona No, No, I was just wanting to ask him favorite moments, you know, crazy times. Remember
the old uniforms. I think you come to the team. Oh yeah, yeah, that was Marmy, right, Larry Marmy, Yeah yeah, Larry Army. Okay, all right, we'll take our break. We'll be right back with Calvini fan captain of the nineteen eighty eight, nineteen ninety eight,
twelve and one football team to lot down. Hey, welcome back to my I on the Ball here a Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. You're Jagon jaws Ian phone. We have Kelvin Ephon, former U of A captain in nineteen ninety eight. Let me say this real quick. I just gotta know Toby said this of Efon. I'm not not sure what your
action will be, Kelvin. If we could play all play as hard as Kelvin did and as tough as he was, or if we could all play as hard and as tough as Kevin is, we would win every game because that sound man, you know, that's that's that's my that's that's that's my coach. Man, that's my uh, that's my guy, coach tell me man. He always expressed that to me, So I know that was Sincere.
I know that's how he really felt, Kelvin. You know, we talked to Barrett Baker, one of your teammates from that ninety eight team, and tried to you know, he said that there was a feeling, you know, even late the year before that you guys were going to be special in ninety eight. When did you know that ninety eight that that team was gonna be, you know, very special. Maybe maybe you didn't predict that we're gonna go twelve and one, but certainly we're gonna have a great season.
Yeah, I agree with Barrett. I think I think that year will wind it up. I think we lost our we were like one in four and then we won like six games of five games and to be as u to get to the Insight dot Com Bow, and then we just had some great practices. So I think it's that that Bowl game practices when which which is which I think is gonna be important for the U of a team. I think that's gonna be a chance for them to have an even more special
season in this year. Taking those bowl game extra practices, you just seem to build a bond and you get a lot of work done because you were with you who you were back in the captain and the motivator guy. Uh, could you talk about what how you felt the importance of that was for that team? Well, well, I thought I thought it was important. Uh, you know, being a leader, you you have to understand that sometimes the coaches only could get so far with communicating with with with with it
basically being their job. You know, when another teammate know it's coming from your heart and they're watching you every day work and grind with them, Uh, they just they just hear you a little bit better. So I knew from my high school days, and you know, I probably was the captain of every team I was on. So I knew from my early days that if I could communicate what the coaches were trying to get, you know, basically on on the players level, that we could probably go a little bit
farther. So that team, you know, as we all remember, got off to great start. You had that, you had that that thing that happened at Washington. Uh, you come back and you know it's all on the line against u c L. A you lost, but you know you still finish tonight, still won the rest of your games, including beating as U. How did you avoid some sort of a letdown after that U c L A game that you know that ended up meaning so much? Yeah,
you know that team. I always said that to me, that's wherever one stems, and that one loss was huge because I feel like we got a chance to really show what type of character we had as a group. Uh. You know, Coach Tomy used to always talk about the front runners and people that when things are always going their way, you know things are good. But when things soon as things go bad, those you know, those
people crumble. And I just think that we had a chance to show everybody and show the next teams that were coming alone behind us that, you know what, we took that l but to be great, we got to step back up and go a game at a time and prove to ourselves that we are the team that we thought we were. And I was just proud that we were able to win every game after that. Is U then went on
to beat the Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl. Well, we're just very proud to be a part of that because again, you took that loss, a lot of teams would have folded and we wouldn't have been able to accomplish those type of goals. Knowing knowing, uh, you know, you were the captain, knowing what you know it takes to be a captain. Can you sense from Afar who is this year's captain? Uh? Man? You know
what? This is one of those teams that I think have a few camp first and foremost, I think my new Minu on that defensive side of the ball, even though he's a young young I think a red turf freshman or a sophomore, I think he's a leader by example and also by for us I watched him. I think Trading Stoops is a guy in the defensive backfield. Uh uh that that I also think is the leader. And on that defensive line, Big Bill Bill Morgan, it does that's name Marton Norton,
Big Bill Norton. Yeah, I think I think you know he's and in with one year, but coming from Georgia with that winning pedigree. I think he's rubbed off on the guys as well. And then just the culture of those you know, the Simon and the Polynesian, you know people man just just just their culture. And then on the offensive side of the ball, I think Jonah uh Margan, Jordan Margan, the big offensive line, the
kind of quiet guy but there by example of real steady. And then you know, quiet leader is another quiet leaders I think is uh Noah Fafita. I mean, I just think the way that he plays and the way that he carries himself. Uh. Sometimes they don't always have to be verbal. Sometimes it's just the action. And I scored a lot of touchdowns. Sometimes people think about my leadership about you know, my talk. Trust me, it was my physical play that the guys really respected and that's why they I
could get that ear a little bit. Yeah, he had a mess of touchdowns that year. As I recall, you were the you were the guy inside the five yard line. Let me ask you when when the when the quarterback thing cropped up this year between you with Jaden the Lord he got hurt and it comes in plays really well, you know, everybody's waiting for Jayden to come back. And is he going to get the job or not?
Could you have you been ever been in a situation where something like that actually went bad, you know, where where a locker room got divided or anyone of her number of things because that you know, if those two guys hadn't been good guys, that could have gone bad. Yeah, I have I haven't been a part of it because you know, most of the teams I would. I mean, I've never been on the team where it was necessary quarterback led. Uh, so that that that never really was a problem.
Any team I was on, we was always the next guy up, regardless of the situation. Uh. I thought it was a little unique with this team because of all the work. I felt like that jd L helped you to put Arizona's position to have a winning team. Uh. He had a lot to do with guys transferring in in the portal believing that we'll be able
to win, help him believe in Jed's system. But when when when Noah won a couple of games and kind of, you know, it kind of quieted a little bit once you realize that coach was gonna go with the hot end, which was Noah at the time, and jd L hadn't hadn't got
another opportunity. Uh most of the time, I'm one of the guys that feel like, you know, Starter should get his chance to come back and you know, and show what he got, get a few series or something and show just just to keep him sharp and and and just to see that if we do have a two quarterback system. But uh, Noah took over it. Man, you got to give him respect, and you got to give coach JDL respect for handling handling it the right way. And then also
coach Fish because you know they've done a tremendous job developing those guys. Okay, so let me admit, do you I listen to you guys on the post in pregame, I think you're probably one of the more realistic guys out there. Glenn's a little too far on the other side. You know that, right, Telvin, you know that right. So let me ask you that we have Jake here all the time, and he predicted this, which we thought I thought he was crazy, that there would win eight nine games,
blah blah blah. Okay, so when did you what did you think of initially coming in and then what did you kind of maybe believe this was in them. Well, I initially coming in thought that they would win anywhere from six to seven game. I for sure thought that they would be a bowl team this year. Year three. I just thought the talent had just
made a tremendous jump. And you know, bringing in coaching Keina, I knew that that would you know, nothing against Nancy and then, but I just knew having coaching Kena and his experience, that would give you like a game and a half just with the way he fired you up. I've been in the defensive back, defensive back, secondary meeting room with him, and trust me, he'll get you fired up and pumped up and ready to go. So I'm not surprised with that turnaround. But yeah, I thought anywhere
from six to seven. I think it's amazing what they've been able to do to this point. Excited to see how how do they keep this going? I mean, because to me, they're a little early for this type of Yeah that and I think that's that's what's caught everybody's eye about this. This happened so fast. So I think thinking back to your week uh uh for the a SU game that year, you guys were still playing, you know,
potentially for a Rose Bowl. All you need to do is, you know, have U c l A either keep winning or lose a conference game going to the s U week. You know, as a player, what what's the first thing on your mind, like that Monday, you know you got in past, you just played your last game. Now it's a s U week. How do you prepare your mind for that game? And what's the first thing that you think about when you think back to that time?
Man, the first thing I think about, And I didn't really have to prepare a lot because the first thing I thought about with was those guys beating us and and uh with Jay Clamber and they injured my teammate Daniel Greer with one of their guys kind of took a not so good shot let's just call it that, yeah, Daniel Greer and broke his ankle. Then you after that count of the game to me was a little bit more personal. I wasn't necessarily from Arizona, so I didn't have any personal mistake in the game.
Coming off the basketball team, it wasn't really a game. You know, uc LA was more of our or Stanford was more of our rival in basketball, so when that happened right there, Man, that they had a they had an enemy for the duration of my career. Let's just say that. So no, man, it was easy, real easy to get up for every game you only get twelve, and that game was very important to
us because the last thing you wanted to do was let ask you. Like, even right now, for our guys there on this winning streak, they're doing great. The last thing you want to happen is to lose the ass you It kind of just dampers everything. And I'm talking to them, guys, they're talking to the team right now. It dampens everything that you've accomplished to that point. It have a bivitaste in your mouth going too. Going into the bowl game. You just don't want to lose to these guys,
especially in the year where they're not having any success. And no, we don't have to feel sorry for them. I mean, first of all, you just want to win. But no, we don't have to feel sorry for them, because I don't remember them feel sorry for us when when they beat us seventy to seven or whatever the score was right before you came on, Jay, and then we're talking about and I asked Jay, do you think that Jed Fish is a is a is an animated coach in the locker
room? Or did you get him fired up? And then we kind of went to Dick Tomy, let's go, let's go to this question first and then you can talk about the Jed thing just maybe if you don't if you know or don't know, but did did Toby really get into it? Because I know you were probably one of those guys that got into it with the guys if they didn't, but it was Tony like that. Yeah, man, coach Tommy was a great motivator man. He would get in there.
He would always have his saying stay together, and you know, just whatever. He would come up when we always would have the T shirts that we would always have, and he was more he was more motivating tart us and us doing our job and you know, and things like that. You know, and I would come in and sprinkle in, you know, a couple
of other good little thieves. Know, maybe you can't let these guys win on our turf, in front of our fans, in front of our kids, you know, in the fruiture, our kids are gonna look back on this and judge us as father you know, I would throw I would throw all cantless stuff in there, just to you know, to have our guys remember that this is history, man, this is history. One day when I go to Phoenix, I don't never feel nothing but joy and that timp.
I don't feel nothing but joy because I gotta win and record again. I maybe lost one football game, in one basketball game, and all the other games, you know, we beaten pretty good. So I feel good when I go up there. I don't have no bitter feelings, you know. I thought was interesting that you mentioned that that horrible game in ninety six when they just crushed you guys, and ask you what you did when?
When when When that play occurred, when your your teammate got his ankle broken and the b line you made and you know you took the flag for that. It was one of the greatest players that I thought ever in Arizona football history because because of what you did to stand up for your guy. But remembering that game, you know, the guys on this team have the seventy to seven game, how much can that help you? You know, walk out there with little extra bounce in your step, a little more of a
chip on your shoulder about this game or whatever. How much does it really help? Man? I got goosebumps just thinking about being in a situation like that and now having an upper hand and having a team good enough behind me to not necessarily get no revenge. But it's cart of revenge on your heart. I mean, you won last year, but as a senior, I'm thinking about Wiley, I'm thinking about Stoops and think about a big Jordan Margan.
Guys that had to take that beating and had to hear about that for a year, and you're still gonna hear about it regardless of how many times you beat them. Man, you just want to make sure that you beat those guys. It don't have to be a blowout. I would love to see a blowout. It don't have to be. You can win by one point, but you just have to make sure that those devils go back to tenp with their head down. That's just the bottom line. So we got
about a minute left. Give me a give me a good prediction. Man. You know what, I hate predicting this game because of the season is over right now, the second third and see now you at that the third part and the bowl game is the fourth part to me. So it's like the third quarter, and man, it's hard to do this and I don't like doing it. But I'll just say this. I know the Cats are gonna win. I don't want to say about the spread and none of that.
But I am a little superstitious when it comes to this part right here, you know, because I know that this game means everything to ask you, it means everything to us as well, and I know how easily it could go against you if you don't just put all your focus on it. So I'm gonna say Cats, but I'm not saying that out loud. Well, we only have one listener, so you're good. I didn't say that out loud. I'm not one of those front runners. Man, I'm not
one of those guys. It's already took curve and done, especially with a team like that. Man, I just I don't trust a team that hasn't really played well all year, being close in a few games. I don't like that. I hate having to see a team at the end of the year like that. Yeah, Okay, no, Kelvin, thanks a buch Bunchvin, good job on your on the other guys on the other show. Yeah, you did good with those guys. You appreciate it, Thank you all, you know, and we can probably go on for a long time.
You remember that that but when he made that Belie, I just remember we all were like that was one of the greatest things, with the greatest things we've ever seen. That still stands out there like that. All right, take our break, we're gonna come back. We've got Brian Jeffers in the second hour, but we'll take your cause by from zero four one seventy four Ford. Hey, welcome back to Wing the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve, he's Jay, got Kevin with us keeping us in line. Thank you getting us on the air. Thank you, Kevin. We lost track. I'm sending you. I've said I've got. The UCLA Shamana game on UCLA was up twenty eight to four early on, but Shamanat's come
back. It's thirty five twenty one. They're still getting beat by fourteen. But but you know that's what let me do the math as seventeen to seven runs something like that. So getting back in the game. But interesting stuff. But they they you said, I played played tough last night two point lest Marquette. Well that kind of just says to me that college basketball is not Arizona's specific. It's going to be a lot of good teams, right,
Marquette's good, right, Tennessee's good right, produce good right. A lot of teams are good, you know. And and you know Gonzaga got beat by uh yes, Now people are starting to question, is you know how good is Gonzaga or are they not? You know? We yeah, it's November, it is it is Duke? How good is Duke? We got to talk about stuff stuff. You guys even mentioned the defending national champions right right, which just goes to your points about how deep the Kansas.
We haven't talked about the number one Kansas. So so many good teams. It's that's what makes it so fun in market is and that's why we talk about it now. Makes it fun in November too, though, you know, you like seeing these games and talking about it, like, you know, like this Michigan State Arizona game coming out. You know, Michigan State now has three losses. You know, but do you you think Arizona's just gonna walk in there and win that game without you know, without a lot
of trouble. Now, and here's here's the thing that you'll get to notice, how tough. We talk about how much tough for Arizona is now we'll see, right, Yeah, even if it's on reputation alone from Michigan state state they're known for being a tough team. Well, here, here we go. They're playing a tough you know, what's long been considered a tough and physical conference. Let you know, let's see what this looks like. Yeah, we'll roll that baby out onto the street again and see and take
a ride and see what we see how it works. Yeah, today, today, Tommy Lloyd was on John Rothstein's podcast and he called it a street fight. He said, you know, he's expecting a street fight. It's gonna be tough. You know, is that those guys are He didn't say looking to get this season back on track, but he said kind of looking to get their season back on Yeah, he said it's early, but that's
what they're gonna do. But then, you know, they didn't expect to be one and three right now, and he knows they're going to be coached really hard this weekend. Ear to come out of fight. If that's expected to be a street part. What was the Princeton game? What was the Princeton that was not a street fight. No, I was that a math test. I'm not even sure what you would call that, Steve, because
it wasn't you know, it wasn't a street fight. It was it was I don't know, it was just one team showed up and one team didn't. Well, it's what it did for the first half, and they had
a twe point leading. Yeah, and then they did what they did most of the year, right, they tried to coast in and Princeton didn't you know, they didn't you know, they didn't didn't take into account the fact that they were playing the Nancy DOAA tournament team, right, a team that had had a pretty good season, was confident in itself and wasn't going to back down. Yeah, no, I could. I was there on the sideline thinking, these guys look like they don't know what's going on. And
they played like it too. They didn't couldn't get a guy to score, and they couldn't get a rebound. And had they gotten two or three of
those, they win that game. No again, but again that in the end, if if it did, if it caused Tommy to do what he did this year, which is turned the roster and figure out what pieces he didn't have and go get those pieces to create what you know, as we talked with Matt Melbach yesterday, a team that has got pieces all over the place, you know, then then okay, then if you get something out of it, like like what you know, like what air's on the guy
out of East Tennessee State back when you know the sure when they be there. You know they were on four the next year. No, after Santa Claia, Yeah, it was East Tennessee State and then second but they you know, they went out and fixed any changed the style exactly. Got a call, we got a call, Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. Yeah. Uh, why did you guys to rank these four things on your own of most embarrassing? So allowed to Princeton Basketball lost
to Santa Clara in the nineties. Basketball lost the Big AU football in the seventy one and then lost n a U football. Wait a second, Wait a second, what was the third one the big board? Let me give you one more to put it in the fifth place. The Chicago loss, the Illinois loss, Illinois loss, and then when they were on the verge of gooding. But I mean Illinois, I mean Illinois mean they have fourteen
point lead with five minutes. I from where I said, I think you start with the seventy to seven loss, because that will never ever ever go away, ever, ever ever even I mean, I mean, yeah, yeah, because I think, well, you're probably right, You're probably right, but I still, man, it's a it's a tough call. I guess I guess the seventy seven because just how you know, because of the rivalry and how meaningful that is, and a year like a SU was lost
to an a you know, years ago, so it can happen. And then I think I put the I put the two basketball losses, uh, you know, after that, because yeah, because you know, Arizona bounced back from those things, so and again, to me, I'm a more of a football guy, right, somebody might say that back, and somebody, Steve might go with yours and say that that Illinois thing, how devastating
that was. Maybe that falls more in less embarrassing and more as you say, devastating, Louke would have gun to Yeah, yeah, right, but but your you're put to your point, Yeah, those are pretty big things, man, that's you know what, Thanks for bringing those up all at once. He's gonna go into his fetal position right now? Yeah, Now, I just wanted to figure out what you got that money on, So I see that might have been Yeah, no, good point, toss up
forty to fifty one. I need a pack of life savers now, something to get me over that. Thanks for calling bad memories. He appreciate it. Thanks, thanks, thanks for coming. That's a tough call. I mean, how do you how do you how do you rate your worst days ever? Right? Right? No, if you're gonna let a story about about the rise and climb of of jetfish, where do you start? But right there? Yeah? Yeah, the n AU game and talking about talking
about hitting bottom for him, he looked miserable that night. He looked like his dog, his disease, everybody somebody wrecked his car. It was I remember watching him come off the field. Uh, And I'm like, I don't even want to know what his stomach feels like. You know, right now, could you imagine just kind of losing it? Just what the hell did I get myself into? But look look at and and I'm sure the way Jed would look at it, because it can't get worse than this.
It's all up from here, sure, right, Everything it gets better from here on. It's funny though. The color brings it up. The big loss the end of the year, big loss to start the year, right right, yeah all the time. Yeah yeah, two of the worst all time things. It was. Yeah, it was in a stretch of four games because they played two games already. Yeah yeah, YU was the third
game. Who did the play the first day they they opened with the Remember they opened the b YU that was she was like a million years ago they opened at b YU. I was here in San Diego. Steak kicked their asses, okay, and then and then they like, I would you opened against them? My god, I couldn't remember that. But that was a stretch of four games. I mean remember the San Diego State game. It
was twenty one to nothing, like in no time flat. Yeah, you know, well the b WYU game, you're thinking, what are you thinking? We thought we came out of you. Why are you thinking? Hey, maybe it's not so bad? Right right? Two weeks later, so the two we like, how did you get this bad? But how did you get that bad? And it did get no color? Hi, you're on the air and on the ball. Hey guys, how you doing?
What's up? Power? Hey, so whatever the whatever the spread is from Michigan State, I'll take the Cats and I'll give five more points on top of whatever you're giving them. You. I don't know that we have a line on that yet. I would say about seven or eight. But everyone everyone has won three straight games by thirty, is that right? Yeah? Yeah, and and and and and because I listened the whole day yesterday, and you're so right, Jay, you know, I feel sorry fans.
It'll show up. That was a perfect game for them not to show to show up on yeah on Saturday. Yeah, there wasn't any reason not to. Howard, did you go? No? I remember, I'm not a football guy. If I would have had a ticket, I would have went. You know that. That's crazy, my wife, because this is so up. I got charity. You. There can be many people in the stands. I didn't say that, but it's pretty obvious. They gave them a way to you guys, you know, the season ticket holders. Was
there still some for the public to get to? I guess yeah, yeah, right, No, I hear you, I hear you. Yeah, there's no line yet on the Michigan State game. I bet it, but I bet it's under six. Well, like I said, I put five more on top of it. They're gonna win by that much whatever it is. Yeah, I agree with you, Howard. I agree, that's how Oh and even as they'll set himself forget the tough. They're tough, and you guys are saying but I guess Jay mentioned physical. That's what Izoe said.
Yeah, U of A is very physical and they're scared about that. Well, sometimes when you say things, you really really don't mean things. Oh, I know, but they're they're they're really bad. It's going to have a hard time from them to write the ship. I mean when you're one and three, they're going to take a while to dig out of that. Have you have you watched Arizona basketball much already? Oh? Yeah, so, but listen to it and I've watched. I mean I've been paying
attention to it. They've got four games, they scored four hundred points. One hundred point. Well, let me just ask you this. What impressed you the impresses you the most? Oh my gosh. The newcomers are great. They're the freshman, the whole thing. And I was the Red Blue game. That was it, and that's all I needed to see. And and and just to think if we don't have Henry Vasar, I think our strength is all the way. We're one deep at every position, and it's
it's just the depth is going to be fantastic. He's got a lot to work with. He he don't try to steal our job. Yeah, at nine o'clock, I could have went to the game, am I to get ahold of you? I could have went to that game on Friday because the two tickets, but because none of their donors my wife works at the u of A, and the donors didn't want to go that late, you know. But but I from now on next year, I'll go to all the late games no matter what. All right, thanks much, thank you?
Yeah, now, yeah, I again looking forward to this. Michigan State came, but just another play just to see. Okay, how meaningful was it? The Duke game? Yeah? In the gage just how right? You just you just watch Jay a month ago? What you were thinking? They won't be Duke right, probably won't be Michigan and Pdue obviously we'll see, we'll see when we get there. But they're all winnable now yeah, yeah, right, yeah, every one of them. No pressure, none,
none, whatsoever. But you know what, Tommy doesn't feel it. No, you know why. You know why he does not. You know why. And I've seen him in a number of things. He was at the camp too, He's owned he owned Princeton, he owned in what exactly I learned from it. I'm gonna we wear this and be better. Yeah. Sometimes coaches don't do that. Yeah, they kind of think that what I was doing was just right. Yeah, and I'm just gonna keep doing
that. It was a one off or whatever. Again and again you go back to as he as he mentioned the manic when we're talking about he says he stayed that made Luke James the way the way he did that. Yeah, after after Santa Clara, they went they were big and they went small. Yeah, and so you know it, h it uh. And that's what makes a great coach. Yeah, you have to be able to well you do we know if im Alloyd's a great coach? Yet still not you know, well, this is pretty damn. I kind of write Sean every
now and again, and I'll say he just didn't want to change. We guess what's now he changed at all? He changed. He's got his Xavier back up to where you know, where they were when he was it's not it's not a sentence to change. It's not not, but I refuse to. All right, we'll be back with breaking news. Kevin's got it and we'll have lots to talk about, and then Brian Jefferies in the at about four twenty, so stick around.
