This is High on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez sound Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio while just surgery I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to Whying the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, you're Jay, and now we have Ryan with breaking news. It's not working as long as you are. We're okay, let's scratch that. Don't make it. Don't make us do for

bricking news. Sorry about that. You know, at some point we gotta we gotta get this show on YouTube so people can see what's going on. What's going on in here sometimes all the food that we eat. Yeah, well, yeah, I just had it. I just had a nice totsy roll. I love Totsy rolls. He's got about twenty Nerd donuts there. I had the Nerds twenty donuts right there. Twenty donuts. Yeah, I got my mic and I you know, we miss National Donut Day the other day. Yeah. I saw a couple of days ago, ye Friday.

Yeah, and I meant to get donuts on the way and then I completely forgot all right, sorry anyway, all right, breaking news, breaking news, we're gonna start with the Tour de Fronts. A little bit of news came out that for the first time since nineteen oh five, the race won't finish in Paris, actually won't even won't even go through the French capital at all during the twenty three day event. Why Olympics, Olypics. Oh, okay, silly me. Yeah, it came out last night. I think

that was. They just finished the courses twenty three days, so that's that's insane. Yeah, long race, which is just the stages, all the stages of Okay, switch over to NBA. A little bit of news about some possible expansions in the future. Seattle is one of the destinations of course, or the NBA. For the NBA. Did I not say NBA? You did not say, okay, for the NBA, so we got Seattle is one of the play We had the SuperSonics and they've been waiting for a

team again for long. They lost their team and then like, wait, what we want another one like you? No, you don't get another one. If you look, you should, they should automatically disqualify you. Although what the Rams went to the Rams were Saint Louis went to La back to Saint Louis. Yeah, you know in football NFL. Yeah, in back to LA and then back town. Yeah, yeah, that's right, back and forth. So they have they haven't had a team there since two thousand

and eight. Definitely a good possibility for another team someday. Las Vegas also another possible destination that's growing. Obviously, they had the Raiders go there not too long ago. They had the Golden Knights as an expansion hockey team. I think in eighteen h They've done really well for Las Vegas. And then Mexico. Mexico City is the other third son one surprises me a little bit.

Yeah, I think eventually they're going to go there eventions, you know, I mean, you know, I mean, I guess you got Toronto. But at least you know, Toronto's right on the border. It's not far. Mexico City is far. You know that. That's not that's a long way to go. So that that's you put it in a Gallus Okay, Irmoe, which is actually a big city. Now, it's only like that's like a five hour drive from Tucson. Oh God, where do you come up with this? My mind just works that way, Steed. I'm

budging that out. Okay, I think I personally think Seattle will probably get a team again. I would think Vegas would be the first time. Vegas first, they got a great arena. Years ago, they were thinking this will never never have a pro team here, because we do. That's now everybody's getting gambling. They see that they're actually knocking down the Tropicana. I

mean, you're actually taking it down as we speak. That's crazy. I'll stay I know, right there on our on our corner where the MGM Grand the New York the Caliber Park what ex Calibers on the other side, and then the drop for the four corner right the corners. But then U T Mobile, the place where we stay at Park Park Gym, park M Gym. Yeah yeah, Well, speaking of food, are we speaking of food? Okay? Joey just Nut has been he's been removed from the competition because

of a branding issue. He switched brands. Well, he's endorsing brand he's endorsing the impossible impossible meat or impossible hot dog or whatever, the the hot dog that's made not made out of meat, and and and I'm like, I sure hope he's getting paid a lot for that, because he was, you know, he's losing a lot of his juice for not being in the July fourth hot dog getting. I was gonna kind of bring that up indirect way to start the show. So give me what would you what would you

be the chestnut at eating? What would you be the chestnut? What would what do you want? What would you? Yeah? Uh, tacos and Toy's tacos? You can how many? Like a bunch? I've eaten a dozen and that's nice. I mean Tomali's are tacos both? Actually, oh, you you're still with me? Yeah, yeah, I've I've eaten a dozen tacos. And I'm talking lettuce, cheese, the whole bit, not and I'm not talking eose. I'm not talking to the little street talk.

I'm talking legit ground beef tacos. I've eaten a dozen of those and I've I think I've eaten as many as fourteen to red. Okay, what about the skinny guy here? Well, say pizza, chicken nuggets probably. I love chicken nuggets. Wings, wings, I mean yeah, wings definitely. Yeah. I could go yard oh, shrimp all day. I just spent just all day, just peel all day on shrimp. Yeah. Absolutely, But I'm sure I've eaten a ton of shrimp, but I've never counted how

many shrimp. I'm beaten, but I'll you put a bowl of shrimp in front of me, like when we spilled you SPI go to Vegas buffet and it wasn't forty dollars. I just go in there and get a slab of prime rab and a play full of shrimp peeling and shrimp. Yeah, cocktail shrimp. Yeah, that's my that's my go too. Okay, you did,

Chris. A little bit of news out of MLB. Uh. Philadelphia Phillies are one of the top teams in the league the season, and the star star catcher J. C. Real Muto is going to have knee surgery placed on the I L. I don't know if it's going to be season entrant season ending, but that's a that's a big loss for the for the Phillies. I feel really bad for them, and I'm very very devastating. I feel horrid. I feel horrible for the Phillies. Dave. I really

did you realize when Jack came on yesterday that they were that good? Yeah? They are. I'm gonna start paying attention and yeah, brought I should say it's I brought up the Rangers because I didn't really I didn't realize they were doing so bad. Yeah, there are three games under five hundred. Yeah, because he said, ah, they're not doing so good, and I'm went and looked in there. Yeah, they're not doing so good. Right, defending champion, Yeah, defending champs. So that the to the

two teams I went to the World Series. They're just yea having bad seasons, not doing well. Yeah, Corman Carroll's having I hate to see that too, all right. Switched over to golf. Yes, a little bit of news. Two time major winner John Ram, Yes, he withdrew from the from this week's US Open on Tuesday. Dude an injury to his left foot, I believe later in the article that said he take a little time. He's gonna come back in the Open Championship in July. He's an a

su guy. So I hate to see that. I was. Yeah, I got some more other golf news. That's kind of strangers. Came out. Roy McElroy and his wife were gonna get back together. So remember that little rumor thing with the cir CVS check. Yeah, yeah, okay, well, thank you for that information on John Rum, so I know I wasn't gonna pick it for the US Open anyway. I thought, you say Macroy because you know he's on your radar to pick it for the weekend.

I've already picked him this year. I can't. I can't take him again. Although I don't take John Rum. I hate room for a guy that I don't like, so a reason why, like bryceon a shambo this week. But there's a bunch of guys I don't hate all the callers. You know. I'm going with Ludwig Ludwig obrig this week. He's he's the guy he was in contention at I think at the Masters. He's been playing really well. And uh, he's the guy that I haven't picked. So I'm

going to lud Big this week. Go lud Big Big. I don't even know where he is. Yeah, neither did I until the Masters. That's all I had for It's pretty slowly. Yeah, you got the women's softball team real quickly. You said fifteenth. I think yeah they were. They finished fifteenth in the pole for the n FC. Well, right, so that's at the end of the day. Fifteenth in the polls is not too bad. We're talking about the Cup, the what's called the rankings, the

Director's Cup. So so they're forty ninth right now, right, they're going to They were forty ninth for the Spring sports right now before the No, but I mean, I think that just encompasses the springs. Yeah, yeah, wait until they have until yeah, the baseball, they'll do the final standing once the College World Series, one real quick one. The Holiday Bowl. Finally, finally, finally, you're gonna play it at the new stadium in San Diego instead of Petco Park, which is like, yeah, why

didn't it move there immediately? Instead of playing it at a baseball you went to the San Diego game, right, Yeah, yeah, we did the del Mar thing. Yeah, the great Arizona that's perfect for Arizona. Yeah, for Tucson. Yeah, yeah, it's a great snap Dragon stity, snap Dragon Stadium. It's a great venue, brand new, a lot of great bars in there, just the right size, it's the perfect size.

It's a great place for the Holiday Bowl. I just don't understand what took so long for them to move the Holiday Bowl there, But Breg McMurphy reported that on Twitter today. So all right, let's take our next break, we're gonna come back. We're gonna talk some more golf with Don Pooley. They'll be joining us. We're good. And so it's four ten after it's get no, no, no, let's go because it's four ten. We'll come back at four fifteen. Probably how he thinks, well, he's not

expecting us till seventeen seventeen. Let's let's get So I thought I thought we were done here. So I was looking as I was looking at the clock up there in my bad Well, anyways, so let'slet's go back to that. Then. You know, the Holidy Bowl, it seems like it's been just managed really poorly over the last you know, a few years. They had that thing with UCLA all that stuff. Why they've continued to play it

at Petco Park, I'll never understand. For the same reason I don't understand why the the other Bowl game, the Cheese At Bowl or whatever it is now in Phoenix they play that at at Bank One Bank One at at Chase Field instead of Sun Devil Stadium. I don't understand that either. You know, that makes no sense. Why you're playing on a baseball field instead of

a football field. Maybe it's a cost thing or something like that. But Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego seems like a no brainer to be bringing the Holiday bawl there because that can be a great ball I mean, you've been to that a couple of times and it's very it's a very cool, very cool bol to be in San Diego, you know, over the over the Christmas period. But interesting stuff. You see, Oh here's what that. You know how how Army Navy game always has that one weekend where it's the only

college football game. Well, this year, there's gonna be some bowl games at the same weekend because they've the schedule has been moved around because of the College Football Playoff. So there's gonna be some bowl games when Army Navy is finishing the regular season, which is kind of gonna be kind of weird, but yeah, it's it's gonna be a whole interesting thing that came around.

I can't wait to see how the football season is gonna be. I don't know i's gonna play out with the playoff, you know, the twelve team playoff looming. How week in and week out, how much the games are gonna matter And as you get later in the season, when things have kind of been decided, right, you know, which four or five teams are gonna be have been in the college football playoff. Now there's gonna be eighteen twenty teams that are trying to get into the playoff. I can't wait to

see how that what November is gonna be like in college football. That's gonna be a lot of fun. That's gonna be. It's gonna be a good, good time to be a football fan. Yeah, yeah, I think and you know and again that you're sitting here in Arizona, GA. You just hope that Arizona's got, you know, some chance to be in that, you know, at least in the hunt at that time, you know, when you're you know, when the conference get in. I think it's

gonna be cool. So I'm looking forward to that. Okay, we ready, we can go down. All right, let's go, let's take our break. We're gonna come back. We're gonna have Don Pooley. We'll be joining us. We have pro golfer Don Cooley. How are you. I'm well, Thank you, Good to have

you on the show. I have an odd question just to begin. Jay was talking about when he was a kid back in the day and he played golf a lot as a kid. He is fifty cents right to go play at Randolph or whatever. Yeh, Don, what age did you start and how much were you paying to be on a golf course. I started really when I was seven years old, and I didn't pay anything. I was my dad was a member of a country club in Riverside, California, and so I got to play for free out there. I play after school,

I play on the weekends. I played a lot of golf growing up and was probably a little nicer than Randolph North and Randolph South, which is where I built my career over there. So we want, we want, we wanted to talk to you because it's it's the US Open week. You played in what I think thirteen of them, right is the number? I see.

It was close to fifteen of them, I'm not sure exactly, a whole bunch of them, and way more than I ever played in, so you know think First of all, let me ask you about the first time. Looking at your bio, it's in nineteen seventy seven, was your first US Open? Did you have to qualify for that or did you Did you get into that because of everybody has to qualify unless you're one of the superstars

back in the day, I'm not sure how you got exempt. You had to be in the top fifty in the money list, maybe the exempt I'm not sure what the criteria was, but yeah, at Southern Hills in seventy seven, I had to qualify and I made it there and that was that was my first US Open. I believe I missed the cut there, but it was. It was a great experience. Greens were so fast, Yeah, and I really loved it. You'd have to tell me in nineteen eighty where the US Open was. I'll let you know if I played in it

or not. Yeah, Okay, the eighty US So have you you're paying seventy seven, then I have you going in eighty one and eighty two, and then you made your first cut in eighty five. Where was that? That was at Oakland Hills and outside of Detroit. Okay, yep, I finished fifteenth, I think there when Andy North won in that year. But I took a break. I took a break after eighty two because I got into a kind of a bad attitude about how the Ushade set up the golf

course. In nineteen eighty one at Marion, I played a practice round there and I was going to hit like ten pitching wedges, and I thought, somebody's gonna shoot twenty under here. Hitting that many wedges, and they let the they let the fairways grow about half an inch, and that was before square grooves, and so I hit nothing but flyers out of the fairway. Oh, okay, couldn't You couldn't control your wedges, and I thought that was a cheap shot. And then in eighty two we had the US Open

at Pebble Beach. I actually played three US Opens at Pebble, my favorite golf course, and I got so angry at how they set up Pebble. They had the greens rock hard, and they watered ten yards in front of the green, so you couldn't bounce it up and you couldn't fly it on. The usj had a thing that they wanted to shoot par and had a good score, but they tricked it up to do that, and so I I think I boycotted to my own detriment the next couple of years. Okay,

but then he came back. Then I played as many as I could after that. Yeah, you came back. You made a bunch. I had a bad attitude for a while. Wow, you made a bunch of cuts. Did you ever play Pinehurst where they're playing at this year? Yes, I did play Pinehurst. I'm not sure. I think I played it in a in a US Open. I know I played it in the in the the regular tournament that they had there, but only had that their one one year. Morristowski won that year. So done. Yeah, I play.

I played that course, great golf course. So done. I'm not gonna I'm not the golfer in the room. I suck at it. That's why I don't play. So let me ask you a question. How do nerves play a part in this? All? You guys are very good at this game? Do they play a part? Nerves play apart, but maybe not in the way you might think, Uh, you want to be nervous. You want to be a little nervous because that really forces your concentration better.

And uh, you don't want to be nervous to the point you're scared that that doesn't do any good, right, But you do want to You do want to have the nerves. I really enjoyed playing with nerves, but that doesn't mean you always play great with them. It's just I really I felt like my focus was so much better when I was a little nervous. At what point do they go away? Though? They have to go away at some point. Not if you're in the lead, they stay with you

the whole time time. Yeah, that makes sense. I remember. I remember the first first time I played the Masters in nineteen eighty one, I got off to a good I was obviously nervous on the first t and I got off to a good start and I was actually four under par and leading the tournament after fifteen holes, and that those first hole jitters never left me the whole the whole round. Wow, I had him, I had them all eighteen holes. Interesting, But what did you finish? Would you finish

with it? In the first round? I bog et, bogie bogie nil. They cut up to you. Yeah, okay, I hate that. I hate that. So but the fun thing was, I think I got to play with Jack Nicholas the next day. They paired back then they paired you based on score each day, and so I was paired with Jack that next day. And then I at another UH Master's tournament, I got paired with him again, and I remember he shot sixty five and he missed three four footers and shot sixty five, and I told him, I go,

well, no, wonder you play so well here? This course is too easy? For you. So you you mentioned how, you know, the when they set up these courses for the US Open, they're notorious for, as you say, trying to get you to shoot par to win the tournament. But over the last few years that hasn't been the case. These guys are still going out there and and blasting the course. But what what were some of the interesting things that they did in the US Opens that you saw?

You mentioned, uh, you know, the the at Pebble, what they did that one time? You mentioned the fairways at another course. Were those things hard for you? Were they frustrating? Were they or did you just expect it and deal with it? Well? They were. They were hard and frustrating at the at the early part of my career. And then I then I just told myself, this is why it's going to be, and uh, learn to play with it, and just everybody has to play

under the same conditions, right, you just play it. I think they also stop tricking the courses up a little bit. They made them very difficult, made the fairways very narrow, made the rough very high, greens very firm. And when you do that, doesn't you can make Randolph very very difficult. You know, if you have high rough and firm greens, randolf will be tough. Yeah, so you do it on a on a famous

golf course, it's going to be a tough test. And the problem today is these guys hit it so far that even if they missed the fairway, they still don't have a whole lot left to the green, so they can get a wedge out of there. Back in my day, if I missed the fairway, I couldn't hit a five iron out of that high rough. I still had to wedge it out and then and then play from there. This may this may be another dumb question, but the US Open it was a great test. I mean you had to you had to do all parts

of the game to to win the Open. This may be certainly a mental test more than anything else. Yeah, do you do you at times when you're watching these events on TV or actually in person, wish that you would be playing now? Yeah, the money they're playing, I would love to be playing now. You would have to adjust, adjust your game. I assume, well my game, my game would not work today. I mean I didn't I did not hit the ball three hundred and thirty yards off the

tee. Maybe I would have with the equipment, with the equipment of the ball. When I was younger, maybe I would have hit it that far because I was hitting it, oh, two ninety to three hundred on the senior Tour, and I wasn't as strong man on the senior Tour as I was on the regular tour. But back on the regular tour, I was hitting it two sixty, you know, and that was that was average. That wasn't that wasn't even short back, and it was just kind of average.

So totally changed. I mean, now now guys hit it one hundred yards farther than that. Yeah. Well, and you know, you see a guy like Bryson de shamb when you go well and the way they swing, I mean, it's just you. I don't know. I mean, obviously Tiger Wood's body broke down with you know, the way, you know, the way he would swing the club. But you just wonder how long some of these guys can last. How you don't have back problems from all that stuff. Yeah, well, I have back problems and I didn't sway

here that or there that long. I have back problems from carrying Jay. So, so, did you have a favorite of all those US Opens? You played, and did you You mentioned Pebble Beach and that's to me, I guess kind of a no brainer. But some what what were some of the other courses that you really liked going out there and taking a shot at in the US Open? Well, I like Madina in Chicago, I think that was nineteen ninety or somewhere around there. I liked Shnacock out on Long

Island. That was a great course, great test and that and that actually was even parr was a good score there that year. The weather was lustury and the you know, the rough was high and the greens were tough. I think Raymond Floyd won that year there, and I don't know, I really enjoyed them. As my career got on, I enjoyed playing all the majors that I got into, and it was it was a thrill. Yeah. Do you have any fas I look forward to? What's that? Go

ahead? Do you look forward to? I look forward to all the majors. I didn't start playing the the the Open Championship, the British Open until late in my career, but once I started, I go, oh, I need to play that every year if I can. So I love I love playing the Links style golf courses over there where you keep the ball on the ground and get different shots. That was that was fun golf for me. Do you have a favorite player or two to watch now? Yeah?

I like I love watching Scottie Scheffler. He's he's hot right now and the best player in the world and he's he's a solid guy and it's fun fun watching him. I used to Jordan Speeth, I like watching him. Who else? H what what makes it? What makes them watchable? What what makes you do that with him? Well? I like I like that. I like their demeanor, their attitude, Uh, the quiet faith that they

have and how it shows through when they're in their golf. I just appreciate that because that's what I tried to do and it was it was hard, hard to do it that way, and uh it's uh, it's fun. It's fun watching Scotti Scheffler Uh have so much success. Well, I was gonna ask about him because they're starting to use, you know, the the T word, the Tiger word for him in terms of his dominance. Now he's not dominating and hasn't dominated for the amount of time Tiger did, but

people are starting to mention that that he could be that guy. You know, they always talk about the next Mychael Jordan, the next you know whatever, And there there's starting to be some conversation about that because he has been so good. Uh, and he's just if he's on his game, you're you're just not going to beat him. He has to not play well for you to beat him. It seems like what has made him such a good

player, do you think, Well, he does everything well. His iron play is probably better than anybody else on tour, and that's a huge, huge advantage to hit your irons well. When he puts well, nobody can touch him. When he doesn't putt well, he still finishes in the top ten. So he's he's always going to be right there because he hits the ball so well. And but compare him with Tiger. Tiger did it for a decade, Nicholas did it for over a decade. So Scheffler's done it

for a couple of years. But you know, he's got to go another six, seven, eight years before you can really start comparing him with some of those other No, and that, and that's true, but you know, again, the rumblings, right, you know, it's always nice it's nice to be talked about it that way. That's pretty cool. You didn't never get arrested before a round of a tournament or anything like that, did you? No? I never never got arrested, and I never won the

Masters. So he's sent a couple of things. That was that was. That was an entirely weird, weird thing for him. But how does something like that not just tear you up? Right? Uh? You know? I mean, you know, you guys are so routine oriented, you know, if you have your routines before a tournament, before a round the golf. I mean, how would that have thrown How did that not completely throw him off? Yeah? I don't I don't know how he went out and

shuts it's five hundred part that day. He said he warmed up in jail. He was probably nervous, nervous. I loved how I loved how you mentioned that he's sitting there and he's in jail, and he's watching himself on TV because they were showing, you know, all the stuff. But it was just a really weird incident. Okay, so these guys go ahead. The mug shot wasn't his best look. It was. It was not the

orange jumpsuite. That's never a good look. So so some of these guys who were playing in the US Open for the first time, you know, what are they going through right now? The turn? You know they start day after tomorrow. You know, how do you keep your focus? You know, your practice rounds, all that kind of stuff. What are you

doing to prepare for your first US Open? Yeah, Well, one of the things that's tough about that is you're playing of course you've never seen before, probably certainly if it's your first year on tour, and so now you're trying to if you played the week before, or you you've only got two or three practice rounds too, Maybe that's hard to learn a very tough,

tough golf course in two rounds. But you know, there's a lot of a lot of yarnage books, a lot of a lot of help with the UH range finders and everything else you can use today to figure out a golf course. But you've got you don't have a lot of time to figure out

how you're going to attack or play this golf course. And uh, you know, the best players in the world are going to be playing well in that right, So it's it's it's a tall order for for a rookie to do well at a US Open, even though the rookies have done well before. Jerry Pate won when I was out there, Yeah, my first year. Pet and I went through the qualifying school together and played the last round of the qualifying school together and and I lost my card. But he won

the US Open that year, so it was a different our careers. Okay, I want to ask you. I've been wanting to ask you this for ever a while, and this will get you in trouble with any of the courses in town. Feel free to not answer it or whatever. But do you have a favorite course in Tucson? Oh? I do. I like I live close to Lama and that's been kind of my favorite for a long

time. But I like a lot of golf courses in town. I like Bentanna, I like the Gallery. I like Tucson Country Cleve and Oryal Valley, two courses you can walk, you know. And uh I don't play a lot of public courses. Although I enjoyed playing Randolph. I used I used to play Randolph in the Tucson Open a few years and uh so I enjoyed. I mean, I I like playing in Tucson. Dumb Mountain is fun. Now they've they they've redesigned that again. And National nice place.

Yep. Okay, so there's a lot of Stone Canyon is beautiful. I don't know that that's a course. There's a lot of really good golf courses in Tucson. But if I, if I had to just go out and play, it would probably be La Pahoma one that's close to my house. And I just like I like a Jack Nicholas designed golf course too. So he didn't get in trouble. He'd mentioned you got them all, you got them all? Well, yeah, good you and you and you you were to that, you were to that. Don We do appreciate it for you

jumping in good stuff. Looking forward to watching the tournament this weekend. Yeah, me too, me too, All right, thanks a bunch. Appreciate you think you've done. Pully, obviously I was gonna ask him, And it's a dumb question. If you want to dream, we have a good job, you know, you know whatever, we talked about this, but if you want to be like a pro dude golfer would be yeah, all

these places you have to you're on your own. Well, right, and you don't have to be you know, six foot five, you know whatever, you know, you can be just an average you physically average. But if you're if you if you have the talent and your and you you work hard at it, you can be you can be a really good golfer. And I know a lot of guys who work really hard to you know, and never became anything more than good amateur golfers. I think it's still like,

you know, like Woods was born to be a golfer. I mean his body and his his upbringing, he was born to be well too. Because you know, if you I mean, if you look, if you're in you're if you're on the PGA Tour, you're really I'm a good golfer. I don't know if I said this is one time, but you know, when my son I went to the US Open a few years ago a pebble beach and we're walking up there. We're walking up a fair way and you know, two guys were playing in it. They're walking and I've never

heard of either one. You see the sign that they're they're I never heard of either one of them, and I thought those guys suck, you know, because they're not. And then at that wait a minute, no they don't. They're here, they're walking Pebble Beach in the US Open. Well, they don't suck. They're really they're two of the best golfers in the world. Now, they might not be as good as a bunch of the other guys are playing against, but they're two of the best golfers in the

world. And for me to sit there and say, you're you're not any good, You're you're damn good if you're playing it just like the joke is, what do you call a dude who finished the second last and his his his doctor degree for the doctor a doctor, a doctor exactly? Yeah, you know need you know, those guys weren't in content or anything. But then I thought, I looked at m I thought these two guys were making a living playing golf, and there's a US Open at the compleat Come on,

is it? How good is that? Yeah? It couldn't be much better? Yeah, how good is that? And you're making money and you're making money exactly? All right, Thank you Don Pullick for joining us talking about the US Open. So we'll be back and we'll take your calls in this last second, five, two zero, four, one, six, seventy four, forty. A good couple of days, yeah, some

I still need to go see him for a golf lesson, but uh, I don't know how much he can really help actually, And then we had Brent Branton. You going back to football steam. Okay, where do you think the Arizona win total is right now? Uh? What? How much you will they win? No? It's yeah, the wind total it's eight on draft ticket. I'm taking that. I'm taking over taking that.

It wasn't eight and a half before. Yeah, Yeah, I don't think there's no different I've seen. I'm just looking at during the break, I've seen seven and a half. Eight and eight and a half is it for different odds? Yeah? So what's the seven and a half at Let's I'm trying to because I had it on Vegas Insider here they had there was a couple of people, there's something, there's some place to have them at seven and a half. I would go over for sure on that one.

Yeah. If you get eight and then they finished at eight, you push right, they'll push you give your Yeah, eight and a half would give you. Well. So Fan Duel and bed MGM have them at seven and a half over over, and then Draft Kings has them at eight. Uh. And actually a couple other Bally's and I can't tell what that other one is have them at seven and a half. I'm gonna go find the seven and a half and I think I'll take you probably get one thirty, we

get even because that seems like a low number. One ten, You can do that. You can get plus one forty eight. It was like, uh, it was like last year's easy was it five? What was it? It was five and a half last year that was given they were giving you money. Yeah, yeap. So I've hit the over two times and you know the uh the second you remember it was I think what was two and a half. Yeah, uh yeah. Jad Fish's second year and then they went to beat San Diego State and I'm like, I got this.

So that was that was good. That was free money. Ye. Yeah. So anyways, here's a funny thing. That's what Washington is at three three Washington. Yeah, University of Washington. You asked me to guess Jet finished Jet Fish's universe. They were in the National Championship Game last year. Yeah, but they've moved to conferences and Jeff you coach at seven seven. I'll go under, you take the under. I'll take the under on that, just because I'm not out of bitterness and I think I'm just thinking he's

gonna have it hard in the first year. Okay, a s u oh three four and a half. Oh, I go under. You take the under on that. The new league with the same situation, yeah under. Okay, Oregon and going into the Big twelve in Big ten O seven eight, you're not even close. You're still not close. Ten and a half under under under big time under. Would you think? I don't know how good are they going to be? That's the whole thing, that's the whole

mystery. I think your question too, to to Brennan was a good one as much as he any what how's you gonna answer it? Right? They're new, we're new and no one knows with each other. Right, how's it gonna go? The same applies to both sides because Oregon's good, but are they and guess what they're gonna do well against the teams that are no good? Right? It's the it's the key. But that's the thing. There's a lot of you know again, you know the Big the Big ten

is so top heavy, so overrated. Those after Ohio State, Michigan and I guess Penn State they suck. Yeah, so how many games you play? Twelve? Yeah? So and they play nine conference games? What's the what's the number? Ten? Ten and a half? It's I think, what do you think if okay, if Oregon's ten and a half whereas o Higo State eleven, ten and a half, ten and a half, So that they're saying they're picking Ohio State in Oregon State to win the same number.

But I don't know about that new quarterback all that? Well, good quarterback obviously, Yeah, it's tough. And what Jed's seven? Jed seven, there's there's I don't know about that. Are you sold on Jed? This is a big step. This is a big step. Is a maybe well, I don't know. I maybe not in his first year, right, you know, maybe he's got to go get it, get get get everything acclimated to the way he does right. And he's also got to take a step of you know, he was able to sell playing time to players

at Arizona. You come here, you're gonna play because we suck. You know, that's not quite the same deal. And Washington, he's got to get it. He's got to get a different level of player. I remember when when when Larry Smith went to us C and some of the players that he was recruiting, you're saying, Larry, you don't have to go get

projects anymore. You're USC You go get the I remember he he recruited the kid out of Douglas that Arizona didn't even recruit, right, And he went and took it and and they were like, Larry, you don't have to go you don't have to get that guy anymore. You know, you're USC.

You go get the elite players. What are you doing? And you're gonna want You're gonna see how Jetfish recruits when he's recruiting to Washington as opposed to air right in terms of recognizing what players he can he can get what players he doesn't have to get. So to your question for Jed seven and seven and a half or seven under under, there was an over seven and a half of four and a half under under. Okay, Colorado, that's

it, is it five five and a half under under? Yeah? I think the first year was kind of like a one hit type of they and they did. They lived off adrenaline for the first month and then they faded the rest of the way. That that game where they have Stanford and then they lost. Yeah, that just crushed them. Yeah. I love that one. That was a great game. Oklahoma going to the SEC. Oh, that's a good one. That's a good one. Eight seven and a half. These are DraftKings numbers. Yeah. By the way, these are

all DraftKings seven and a half. Yeah. It's gonna be fun because it's all new. It's all new, and it's gonna be fun to look at what happens in the leagues. Yeah. We talked about this with Andy yesterday. Uh, with the ACC in the s CEC, right in the in the in the World Series. First time it's happening forever. That's interesting and uh, we'll see how football goes. Basketball is Uh. I'm telling people

my friends who have tickets are away their tickets for basketball. This is the time to have basketball tickets in all my time of having covered the team. This is just gonna be a fun, fun year. Dude comes in, the Big twelve comes in. Why not have a ticket? Yeah, I know they're expensive and all that, but yeah, no, I look for here's when U see LA ten four five maybe and a half. Yeah, new coach. We don't even know how good a coach he is or if

you can coach right right? Yeah, that's that's of all the teams. I think of all the teams switching conferences, I think that a issue. And U c l A have the biggest hills to climb. Okay, yeah that's okay, Yeah that would you think just top of my head, Yeah, because is up against it and it's usually is not the one the team that we haven't been ul as you Jake Plumber ain't coming through that the lot. Yeah, and that's when they were good. Yeah yeah, I could

be wrong. But how about Utah. I think they're gonna be good nine nine and a half. Yeah, they're gonna win the league. They win the league? They can you think they will? Who's gonna beat them. I'm trying to think. I had a I had a story up that who's gonna beat them? I think it was a Sports Illustrated story about that had the over unders. So they basically were picking the winner and let them call that up. And they've got Kansas State at nine and a half. That

means that means that they have Arizona losing to Kansas State. Yep, yep, They've got Utah nine and a half. Then they they've got Arizona at eight and a half. Mhm. But they're but they're all they're also saying to take the under on that. Yeah, I would, Yeah, it's gonna be eight. They're gonna win eight. We gotta get Jake in and say, cause these are you know what, I need to go find that seven and a half and and call that up and you better do it now.

I bet it. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely absolutely, Okay. Here we are odds to win the Big twelve Football Championship Utah Utah three to one. Utah, Utah and Kansas State are both plus three fifty three fifty. DraftKings are three. Actually, Utah three thirty, Kansas State three fifty, Arizona seven and a half Arizona eight fifty, but they're one two three four five they are this Oh that's too low there, No, they're the one two three for the fourth. Yeah, that's and that's that's large pick.

They've got Utah, Kansas State, Kansas, Kansas, and then Arizona. Yeah, and then then after Arizona they've got Texas Tech, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and UCF And then you go all the way down to Colorado with thirty five one hundred, ASU at ten thousand, euy you at twelve thousand? Are they really bad? I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Let me ask you this, what about what? I will talk more about this as we get the sportswriters coming in on the show, as

we get closer, uh Dion Dion coaching Colorado beyond this year? Beyond this year? Yeah, Well, part of it's gonna be pend if does he have a good year, If he has a good year, does he go somewhere else? Well, somewhere else? And his kids are they still yes, they're both going to go to the NFL this year. Here you go, and there's a lot of faction action. Does he go to the NFL or does he yeah, or go somewhere else. Yeah, and if he

doesn't do well, what what happens then? Right, because I mean there was a lot of hype last year and he got a lot of attention. They're selling a ton of tickets. But in the end, as as Brent Brennan says, you still got to win gat You gotta win games to keep people coming to your games. And if you don't win games, they don't come. But he's picked, uh, you know, they're they're picked pretty low in the in the Big twelve. It looks like Utah's emerging as the

fair. Well, they got their quarterback, Cam Rise in his back right, and it's Utah. They're good. Yeah, they're good. Yeah. If anybody benefits the most in football at Utah, yeah, because they're just good. I'm sorrying to hate those guys. Don't tell your guy, I know our friend Mark Carlin. Don't tell you guys, but they're good.

But this is all they good. Did you remember when we had them on the show and I told them that everyone was going to kick their asses and that was kind of a dirtbut I just threw that out there was kind of it. Didn't kick your ass? And then they I mean all the games that it was all played outside of the Oklahoma game. That was a big deal. That was a huge that they played so well that day. It was it was off the charts. I remember was twenty one zero. I'm

thinking that was a tour at the time. It was that day. Yeah, I think that can't be right. It can't be right. And they just killed them. They did, they did. I love watching that game. All you gotta watch is like the first well when you watch it on Pac twelve and sixty, you know the sixty minute thing. You watch the first first fifteen minutes of that and you've you've seen the game, and you just go over that was really fun and that that's fun. It doesn't happen

very often. Well, they didn't, and that was a great day again that game. Did you go that game? Your No? I think I watched it though, yeah, game you didn't go? He didn't go. He's not a student. Though, he's not a student. I don't care. He's got he's got a life. He's a sports guy. He's got a life. I really I want to go to more games this year though, okay, okay, that'll be the only time I went. Is when I got a free ticket. Okay, well that's legit. Okay, that's

legit. No, you got to go his, all right, you gotta go, you because you might be covering it. Go to his tailgate. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of lucky wish one at at our tailgate parties. Yeah. Hey, good good show today. This was fun. Another quick one. This was fun. We have some guests this week and lined up. Not all the time, but we do have. We have Wilner who is gonna come We're trying to get roxy Burns from again. He had to cover the Kentucky Uh super reason, you know, so we'll see what
