I mean I heard radio arm Hey, welcome back to on the Back here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve you jacomes Olsen, Now you got Jason with breaking news. Wendell'neil, the former Arizona Associate Athletic Director and Equipment Operations, has retired after twenty five year career in service to Arizona. To an athlete
had him he was he announced his retirement, but it's official today. Yeah remember that? Yeah, yeah, we had him on. We had some great he had some great stories to tell you, right, it was really cool. And congratulations Wendell Neil. Get you back on the show someday. Yeah. Um Channel Arizona Abasha four Store quarterback A Deadman Williams is expected to attend Arizona's a Big Desert Stars recruiting event this weekend. Oh that's is that
kid from Mississippi? Yeah okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, they say he's visiting this weekend and we'll see yep. Awesome. Nationale is Jalen Brown and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a five year Supermax extension worth up to three hundred and four million dollars, which makes him the richest or gives him the richest contract in NBA history. Is he um? You know if you think he should get he should he be the highest paid player. No, but it makes sense for him to do that because of you know, his
talent, and they want to keep him and take him together. And this situation they're in because if they trade him, they won't get a value back of his word. You know what I'm like him to be. They need him to be like a perennial contender in the NBA. That makes sense, isn't it funny? Well, it's it isn't gonna be the case where every every start that we saw moving forward. Yeah, it's gonna be the richest, exactly, it's gonna be a best ball player because they always have to
win up the next gun. Yeah, that's how I mean. It makes sense. Would be the richest for the next two days before Yeah, basically, then the next guy get three fifty million. Then you know this money, Jay, this money when you're making forty fifty million dollars a year, Apparently the owners had it. What about the soccer guy. Yeah, I was about just bring that up. I don't know if he has talked about
it, but we have it. Um killing him a bob. He's he has a chance to get up to worth like seven hundred and seventy six million annually for one year year, seven hundred seven million for one year to go playing in Saudi Arabia for his one year, and she has a he has a chance to do that if he wants. I was gonna say, where these owners get it? But I get it. He's gonna, yeah, just give him the damn oil well right, yeah, or a couple of
a couple of oil well yeah, please for a day? Yeah man, and I just have one of those million, just one, just one one yeah. Um. NFL news the charges star quarterback Justin Herbert just Um agreed on terms to his nuke on Blockbuster, a five year extension, which is worth up to two hundred and sixty two point five million dollars riches. Yeah he is, yeah, she's yeah. And I guess Joe Burrow is gonna be next to get the next one. He's gonna one up that basically him.
Uh yeah, just the way of the world. Man, I was born I said this too the last week. Too late. I was born too late. Yeah, and not as a couple of inches taller. Uh. The New York Giants ae Quon Barkley, I just agreed to a new one year deal with the Giants worth up to ten point one to fully guaranteed, including a two million upfront signing bonus. Okay on that one. Yeah, he's getting like less than a million dollars more he was going to get
under his franchise. It's nine hundred k more. That's a boat and that was a boat. Yeah about it? So your pointing in this way, was he what's all the fus? Yeah? Why why was he holding on? If that's all the additional he was going to get? Like, I'm pretty sure yesterday they were just on the zoom call all the running backs in the NFL about you know, we're not getting paid and paid enough, Like we gotta do something about this in the next day, like he signs the
deal. So, Jackson, when you get your first job to wherever it is, Yeah, are you gonna bitch about your first job? I mean I'm gonna go with the money money exactly. Already happy to get that job. Yeah, whether they pay you a lot or don't. Yeah, exactly, but that's how they are. They. Oh, I'll do whatever you want, and then four years later, I don't want to be here anymore. Pay me more money. Yeah, it's all about the money at the
end of the day. So I gotta get that bag because people, as you kids say, yeah, Um, the Saints have signed their former Pro Bowl Pro Bowl A tight end, Jimmy Graham to your new one year contract. He's still playing, yeah, Bram, Yes, yeah. Is he like really old? Yeah, he's like, I think maybe thirties, you
know, so old. Yeah. Um. The Cowboys um signed their star cornerback Treyvon Diggs to a new five year contract which is worth up to ninety seven million dollars, so he becomes the highest paked quarterback in the NFL and his max value for the contract with like incentives can be up fourth to one hundred four million. Well again, another guy, who's another richest guy. Blah blah blah. Yeah, I can this go on, Steve. That's what I'll keep doing. These TV rights and these guess who's paying for it?
You and me? Yeah, just okay, and go to that just out of curiosity. I was watching the Dodger game last night, and so, um, you know, I'm looking behind home play in a bunch of empty seats. So I just went on the ticket on the Major League Baseball ticket app to see how much those seats cost. One seat. No, eight hundred and fifty bucks. Is that where so you're talking? Yeah, we're the lady from my entertainment tonight. Yeah, whatever her name is.
I can't remember name, but yeah. And then this was actually it was one seat. There was only one seat left and it was kind of stuck in the middle, and now was hundred fifty bucks. If you wanted to sit there, you know, you if you want to go to that game with your wife or whatever. That's that's why they paid. That's out there, and that's where they're empty. And that's probably why they're empty because people
on people own those when they go whenever. I'm not you know, I would love to sit behind home play the Dodger game, but it's not worth eight hundred trucks. No, no, yeah. Um. Michigan and the NCAA are negotiating a resolution to an investigation into the Wolverines recruiting practices. Um. That would result in the possible four game suspension four Head coach Jim marb I think he's already been suspended for four games. No, they're saying it's
it's it's not finalized out. Yeah, they're they're they're trying to settle on this. It's a four game it's a four game suspension. It's for four game. It's the first four games, which they're gonna be thirty point favorites in all four games. Um, and it's four He during COVID he bought a burger for two recruits who were visiting. Now they weren't on an official visit, but he met them at Murder Joint in in ann Arbor. He boughttomed burgers. But the problem with it was when he got caught, he
lied about it. And so the level one infraction that he's got is not for buying the burger. It's for, as they say the word, they're just misleading the NC double A when they came and asked about it. So they're talking about suspending them for the first four games of the season. Yeah, did you remember you didn't? Did you read my Sean Elliott chapter?
He said he said this a bunch of times. I don't know if I made the chapter where he went to loose we want lo speaking engagement and he hadn't eaten all day and Luke said you hungry and said yeah, So they stopped to McDonald's. You remember the story. So they stopped McDonald's and back then it was like three bucks right for burger and he says, well, here's twenty bucks. Uh, make sure you give me my change back.
Yeah, and he's coach, coach, I don't have any money, you don't have anybody, and you couldn't give me the rest of the twenty bucks to be like for a week be is Nope, Hey, I bought Shanna pizza? I did you bet? Yeah? You violent bottom of bottom of when I when I interviewed him for his uh right before the NC Double A Tournament started his junior year. You know, I was at You're doing a story. I was I was doing a story. I was at his dorm and I said, are you hungry? You want to go with somebodc Yeah,
let's go a pizza. And we went up to that. There was a round table pizza right up on Prince and uh, Campbell went pick and we didn't eat it there, but we picked up the pizza. We took it back to his place and had a pizza. Yeah, and I'm sure that was a violation of Sweeten in the deal. Yeah, he stayed at Arizona in an extra year because I bought him a pizza. Y Gonzalez guy. Candice Parker's outing definitely after undergoing successful surgery on her left foot, the
Aces announced today. Um, she's been playing with a fracture all season. Fracture, ye, fracture yep um. But after the surgery, the doc's advisor, she just you know, said out the rest of the season, she's so I can fully yield. Okay, you see Olivia Pacatto, he is that n him sound familiar. Sounds a little familiar to me. She's the first woman to hit a homerun in the ear the New York would Bat League. Wow wow, Yeah, so it was pretty because all the guys
weren't crazy for uh. So, ok Um, Orlando is going to be hosting the twenty twenty four Pro Bowl games. Um, it is going to be hot, yes, very hot, and it's going to be um on Sunday, February fourth. So wait, they're still having a game. Didn't they didn't it become flag football or something. That's yeah, something simple. Yeah, they was a flag football game or Somethingah, they have like different events. Yeah, they're like a skills thing, but then they play flag
football game. Yeah basically, so you know, I'll pay a lot of money to go see that. Yeah. Um, the Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young he turns twenty two today, and I didn't know. I think it was it was pretty cool. Um, he's going to be the youngest um season opening starting quarterback in Panthers in Panthers history, which is you know, I think pretty cool. So yeah, we all and we already know he's the starting quarback. He's he's gonna be the starting quarterback, and he's gonna
be the youngest in their franchise history. Um, at twenty two years old. They don't break him early, he'll turn into Tyler Kyler Murray hopefully. No. I mean he's a very talented, very smart quarterbacks. If they use him right, he should be you know, pretty exact went down in this system. Yeah, I mean sort of mac Jones. So you know, Um, the seventy sixes are hiring Mike Longer Boardy as their head coach for all their franchises. Delaware G League affiliate. Um Lungbardi has been a
twenty years NBA assistant coach. Um, we heard anything on Joe Blair. He's still with him. He coached the sumber League. He was on he was on the bench coaching in the suber League. Okay, so he he didn't get the job, obviously, you know he didn't get the job, but he still got his job. Yeah, and all that stuff. Yeah, okay, good. Um. Boston's Bruins captain Patrese were gone, one of the best two way forwards ever, has announced his retirement. Um.
He played for the Bruins for all nineteen seasons of his career. Yeah. Um, the some baseball news, the Boston Red Sox. I was Angeles Dodgers. Yes, finalizing a trade was on my list. Um, Kiki Hernandez to the Dodgers. K Hernandez, who was who was a key to the twenty twenty World Series team? Hit? Some had some key hits? Did they did they do this for that reason? Well? They needed they need a guy. They've got a bunch of injuries. So he's he's a
he's a utility guy. So he can play a lot of positions, but he was part of that. Yeah, he had they had let him go. He had signed a free agent contract with the Red Sox, so I saw him. You know, he played shortstop the game that I saw there. So now he's back with the Dodgers. I really really liked him with the Dodgers. I'm glad he's back. Okay, and I just trade a couple of prospects and some cash. But um, I told my son, I said, he's already on my fantasy team. So any bad luck that
happens with the Dodgers is not my fault. And what your son say, he kind of threw me in the fingers. It's always on. That's all. I'm breaking his offer today, all right. I had a couple more
things. So Kansas football player, I guess sounds like more like a former Kansas football player now allegedly called it a bomb threat to the Kansas football facility, an offensive lineman, and he's been arrested for uh for an aggravated criminal threat that caused terror, evacuation and disruption to see what he did, Yes, why would you do something like that? Just you know, he hasn't played much or he's not gonna play at all. Now he's no playtime at
all. So, coach, can you give me a recommendation for a job? No, Son, I can't. Northwestern football had a defensive back jump into the transfer portal, which very late, you know to be doing that, right, camps are about to start a defensive back Jeremiah Lewis seventy tackles less season with the Northwestern So on top of everything else, players are starting to leave. Um, we can probably talk about this after the break, because there's a lot more to talk about. But there's a Senate bill.
Uh that's that's out there. Uh an nil bill. Another one that got put out there by Tommy Tuberville, who was, yeah, he's he's a
he's a senator somewhere, yes, out of Alabama and uh he. So this bill is out and got a bunch of interesting stuff, but there's some people saying it's going to be dead on arrival because one of the things in it is that players athletes cannot transfer from without penalty until they've had used up three years of eligibility, and people are saying that that's never gonna make it
through the bill. Ross Dallinger pointed out that in Uh, in the last four years, um, since all the NI stuff has come up, more than a dozen bills have been have been put out there. Eight of them have had hearings, and not one of them has gotten past the committee committee. Do we know? Do we know how many people gun to transfer portal and it didn't end up anywhere? I'm sure that numbers out there. It's hue, I don't know what it is. Yeah, of course it's here.
You know. People think the grass is greener. Oh there's no more grass? What happened? Yeah, yeah, yeah, but we gotta go to break So but a lot of stuff in the bill. Maybe we'll kick it around a little bit more. But it's interesting to hear the stuff they're trying to do. Yeah, there's a couple of these out there. So but let's take a break where and come back and we'll have Greg Hanson on
and talk a little bit about some of all of this. Right. Greg's always in the middle of stuff, still doing his notes column on Sundays, which is great because uh, it's always good to read. So, um, stick around and we'll be back with Greg Hanson. For more than twenty years, the Window Depot has provided the best price and the biggest inventory on

This is I on the Ball with Steve Ribera and Jay Gonzalas Sports fourteen fifty Hey Welcome back to uying about here on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm
Steve Ribera. He's chickens all snow the phone. We have Greg Hanson from the Arizona Daily started. How are you doing? Greg? Hey, talk you guys. We're all on factation. Well I was for a day last week and Steve is going for a couple of days this week. So yeah, we sort of ore. But we're just trying to enjoy the heat here, Greg. I mean we're having fun sitting in it. Huh. I've spent well, I haven't spent as much time in the summer heat as you. Ja. Yeah, no, I should see my color man, I'm
I've got my summer color is uh farm, it's here here. Who are you? Who are you? What are you? In the mountains of the Himalaya. This little kim little place called Grand Lake, Colorado, little place call you him and his wife and that's it. Yeah, that's it man. And the golf course. That course so eight eight thousand feet elevation. Oh how you can probably barely breathe. Yeah, it took it takes. It takes about ten days every year. Yeah to get used to it.
Yeah. Wow, Okay, all right, But I bet the ball, I bet the golf ball flies that. That does not translate. It does not work. I was gonna say, because that must mean you might might hit it, you know, two twenty now on a you know, with the driver or whatever. But no, I shouldn't make fun. I know you can play every year you lose like ten or fifteen yards. All right, So a lot of a lot of stuff going on, Greg, I mean, from the PAC twelve, you got Northwestern, you got Bronnie James.
I mean, what the hell has happened? It's not been a slow summer, that's for sure. Yeah, and it's suddenly it's college football, well, pro football season. The camps is already open. It's time to go. Are you excited or do you care about this year's not? Care? Cares not the right word. You excited about the football season coming up? College wise in Arizona? And did you see the EPAC twelve stuff?
I watched almost all of it, but Jay remembers this, and I know it's a long time ago, but when I really got excited is when they had camp Coach Cheese. Um, no one would believe it, but that was like the most enjoyable week of the year, almost going to down to Douglas for a week and seeing all your buddies and covering a little bit of football and going to Bisbee every night, and and that that was just a
treat that I'll always miss. Or Dawson's Bar and grill. Right, wasn't that the place Dawsons in Douglas. Don't forget it to stay at Motel six dits to the prison next to the prison. But we say Reid did the interior of the Motel one here. It was fun. It was it was muggy, but it was fun. Yeah, it wasn't a sawn as two sons. So you know you said you watched you watched a lot of the
pack pop stuff. So let's first ask you your your thoughts on the whole Jane Delora a bit and how they handled that and how he handled it. What were your thoughts on that. I thought he handled it well. Obviously it was rehearsed and kid met would probably the UVa's attorneys, and and they had created so much doubt that now there's don about it. And I think their objective was to move on, and they got it out of the way in the first day. And unless you guys disagree with me. I think
it's kind of a side issue. Now. We talked about that where you know, if if you had a question, what would that question be? There hasn't been answered already, right, or that hasn't been asked not answered that one. Yeah, yeah, even a well rehearsed Washington attorney couldn't get an answer out of it. Now, yeah, no, I agree with that didn't So you know, if it is a side issue, then you know, then you move on. And then but Jed Fish also had to
answer the question did you think he did about what you would expect? Or did good? Did bad? Would you think? I thought he was excellent? You know, he's he's such a good public speaker. He uh he neutered it in what thirty five seconds and answered the questions right to the point about that there was doubt and that things have been misrepresented and um, and then they started talking football, and I think that was their point. I like the word you use, their neutered. I thought that was that was
really good. So so your thoughts on you know, what do you think we're going to see this year? I mean, Steve Stephen, I have a little wager going we went, we did the number five and a half wins. I went over, he went under for for a dinner. Um, any thoughts on where you think they are? They picked eight there, picked eighth in the league. So what do you think? Yeah, well,
number one on the number of wins five point five. Two years ago the number was one point one and me and my friend Todd Mayfield got sucked into a big bet on one point one and lost. And uh so I'm the last guy who has any accuracy on the predictions of over under on wins. Um, I'm still reading from that, but I mean five and a half. Unless they have some severe injuries, they should win six or seven, don't you think. Well, we're having trouble finding specifically which six games
those are, because yeah, there's so many games. There's two big games, the Oregon State game and the Washington State game. Those were kind of those could go either way, and if they go bad, they're not gonna get to say they lose both of those games. They're not gonna win six. Boy, Oregon State thinks it's gonna be good, really good. Yeah, you know eight or nine win team? Yeah, Um, I've forgotten
on the top of my head as that game and two son. Of course, they go to wh Shington State and then the next week they come back and play Utah and that comes right after they play USC than Washington. Well, it doesn't line up real good, but I think they have the offensive personnel dout score seven teams. Um, but what happens if Dolora gets hurt and then they don't have the offensive personnel right right? Or and we saw what he did against Washington State last year. Here, this ain't gonna be
easy going to Pullman. They had they had him scouted to the tea. I mean, they made him look like a first year freshman. Yeah, and maybe they'll adjust this year. He probably that was probably his worst game of the year. Yeah, And I don't know if it was because of the expectations you had, but clearly he just looked awful from the get go in that game. Yeah. I guess that's not unusual tho. I'll remember how through the years of Dan White and Ortig Ankins and even Nick Foles,
they went up and down all the time. Yeah, always, Um, you know, and the thing that the point that we've been kind of making is if their defense just could be a little better than it was last year just a little better, not even a lot better. They could win an extra game or two. Justin Slow has got to be a game changer, you know, you look back. He was as highly rated coming out of
high school as he lies a rushing as now. And he went to Oregon for those two years and I know he was injured, yeah a lot, but he didn't make a difference there. So he's still as good as as he was supposed to be. I mean, if he is, he's an All conference player and he went to Arizona last defensive of all conference player. Were you there? Were you there? Jay? And I were there in the press conference after the spring game. Were you in there? In there
when he came into the podium and did that? Yeah, just how impressed you were he came in, he's his holy crab? Who is this dude? And then he spoke. Then he spoke like really well in a sense that you had to believe everything he said. But how he looked it was like, you know, mister Holt coming intrough the room, he passed the eye test before he even got through the door. Oh yeah, yeah, I gasped when he walked in the door. I'm like woke exactly exactly exactly.
I mean, I'm like, who, who is that kind of thing? Ye? Sorry, USC's that way, sir. That was of all the Fish chickups. And you know he's I mean, I think he's really good at and evaluations and acquiring people that might that may be his best one. Let me ask you a question that I asked Jay a couple of days ago, or maybe Friday or whatever, last week or yesterday. Do you think that Jetfish is a good coach or is it too early to tell?
Really good question, Steve, when the job is open, I would have voted strongly for Brent Brennan, and which would have been a huge mistake in retrospect because he had a lot of Dicktomy in him. And I've come to realize since then, in those three years, that there's a new way to coach now, and Jed Fish is one of the new ways to go. You don't have to be an old school guy like Dicktomy or Brent Brennan. And I mean all of the things that Fish has done in community outreach,
the player acquisition to staff acquisition. You know, I don't think Brannon could have done that. I don't think he could have. He would have never gone after McMillan, and those guys in Arizona would still be floating there at three and nine. So I think Fish was the way of the future for a football school like Arizona. Yeah, that's what we talked about. I
mean, I still not percent sure how good of an. I guess he's a pretty good access in those coach because the offensive has gotten so much better, but it maybe it looks so much better because it was so bad. But that you're he's the CEO guy that that Mike Steves didn't want to be that clearly Kevin Sumlin didn't want to be, and really rich Rod didn't even want to be. Yeah, they were they were old football school guys. And I think he nailed it right there, Jay by saying, Uh,
we don't know if he's a good offensive coordinator or not. That's the last thing to fall into place, right right, So we'll see what happens with that. Um uh, let's talk about uh Northwestern And I bring this up too many times? Do you think it's happening in other places more than we know? You know? Do you the only school I've been around under the Oregon State when I was younger in Utah State, and I never saw anything like that anywhere, do you Jay? No? No, But I mean
I was only around one day, I was only around Arizona. So but you know, I mean, how how visible would it have been? Though? Yeah? Right right? But but you trust you knew what kind of person. Larry Smith and Dick Toomy were right, and they wouldn't tolerate stuff like that. So to me, it starts at the top. Um, if Dick Tommy had heard about any hazing, it would have ended that day. And I think you're right on that. But I could have seen. I could have On the other on the flip side of that, I could
have seen that happening while John mcavic was here. I could have seen that happening when Mike Stoops was here. Remember that. Remember when they first got here and guys were working out and throwing up in the garbage cans, and the way those guys yelled at the players, and you know rich Rod and some of those guys. So I wouldn't put it. I wouldn't put it past those guys. And Kevin Sung probably wouldn't have given a crap. So
I could have seen it happening under him. It's part of it's gonna be depend on how much does your coach care about what the hell is going on in the program. What was so surprising to me about it has been that Pat Fitzgerald's reputation nationally has been it didn't matter if he won that much because he was such a terrific human being and handler of young guys. And I was finding out that apparently a lot of stuff went on to either let go
or didn't know all about stuff that you need to know about. So I don't know, yeah anymore. Yeah, when you think about through the years, right, do you think Ricky Huntley would would have put up with Hazy? I don't think Chuck Cecil would have put up with with Hazy. No, you know some of those guys that have been you know, the guys in the program, you know would make Folds have put up with Hazing. You know, you got it? You gotta wonder. Yeah, yeah,
let's transition real quick, go ahead, go ahead. No, but things have changed because outsiders no longer have access, so they can't see it. Laig deal, when we go to camp coachiefs, we would have seen something like that now there's no access where an outsider could actually witness it. No, very good point, great point. In fact, Hey, I don't know if you knew this but or heard it. We spoke to one of your old friends, Jim Young. What a refreshing old man. And I
say that respectfully. Yeah. You know, he wrote his memoirs about fifteen years ago and gave me a copy. He couldn't get him published, And I still have him in my desk and I go back and reread them all the time because there's two or three chapters on the u of a years. He just he took the blanket off and showed you everything and talked about everything that went on, from his personal issues at home through trouble at players.
And boy he was I always had great respect for him because he was straightforward, a lot like Larry Smith and Dick and plus he won. I mean it didn't have to be at a high level. He went to Army, and one remember how bad Army was. Yeah for a long time. When that guy's sure a good thing. And just remember all those games and how great it was. I mean, you know eight, three, nine two, a stretch of three seasons. It were just incredible for a team good. He told
me that. Uh, And in the middle of his third year, Washington called him and wanted to offer him their job, the job they gave to Don James, but that Dave's track didn't tell him they had called for about two weeks. Oh man, and the protocol Everyone solved protocol so seriously in those days that the Washington a d at the time just never called back. So he was from that moment on was upset at the U of A. I was determined to leave the school because of what they had done with the
Washington job. And he could have saved us from Tony Mason. Oh yeah, yeah, A man. All right, Greg, hey Man, go back to your vacation, you know, back on the links ocreation. I'm Steve Rivera, Jakins also a guy Jason here with us thirteen and a half minutes for you to give us a quick call. Five two o four one six seventy
four forty. We'd appreciate your call. Do some insight to whatever you're thinking. Lots of stuff, man, So let's go back to this um this nil bill, that's that's out there again. Even though Tommy Tuberville is a big butt head I think, Um, he's part of this and he helped sponsor this bill. It's got some bipartisan supports, so was he if anything happens with this is But as Ross Dallinger, the now YEAHO supports guy commented have been this is about a dozen bills now and none of them have gone
anywhere. But some of the key pieces of this is as I mentioned, there was the um that athletes cannot transfer or going to the transfer portal without penalty for the first until after they've completed three years of their eligibility. So that's when the people are saying that will never make it. UM. But it's it's gonna require it's gonna we're talking about it's basically gonna be sort of an NFL system, right, agents, agents and collectives will have to register
with whatever governing body that's formed to monitor this. UM. Contracts will have to be done, and they'll have to be disclosed to this governing body. Um, they you know, you won't you won't see you know who's got the deals, but you'll see what the deals are. Right. UM. The collectives are gonna have to be affiliated with their schools. So I don't know if that makes them part of the school administration or how that connection has
made obviously a lot of this stuff. And then you know, then some things down the road, you know ar you know, health insurance for the athletes or even after they're they're done, particular stuff like that. So a
lot of a lot of you know, um protection for the athletes. But you know, people are so up in the air about this because here you have what you know, where people want less legislation of stuff, yet they're going to legislate something that's never been legislated before, and that's college athletics legislated at the federal level. People just have a bad feeling about all that. Yeah. Yeah, well, so it's a new world, a new horizon
or whatever you call it, to a new situation. Certain things you need to change, right, like with the portal and nil like certain things you need to change. But I don't think it needs to get to the federal
level where they need to get involved to start making no bills. And well, the one thing it does say, and one of the things that's trying to do is to rain in all these various laws that are being passed to the different states and basically nullifies all the state laws that have been passed and says we're gonna have one thing, and I think that's the one thing that
this does need. Rights. There needs to be some consistency so that everybody's playing on the same level, so that you don't have the Tennessee Attorney General threatening, uh, threatening the SEC with a lawsuit if they if Tennessee breaks the rules and gets banned from postseason play, right because using their NIL law to do that. And that's the stuff that they're that they're trying to uh,
you know, trying to make sure that that that happens. Um. But you know, it's God, I don't know, man, I don't know, it's got you know, it's got stuff like you know, NIL agreements cannot involve alcohol, drugs, uh, you know, and stuff like that, gambling, um, you know, um, uh you know. Just one it says ensuring that schools, conferences, and associations are not liable for their efforts to comply with the Pass Act. The pass Act is the is the bill. I don't know, don't even know what that means.
UM. A lot of Title nine language in there. Um. And then it says requiring collectives and boosters to be affiliated with a college or school. So a headline in the ESPN thing passed that the president, the president of the NUBLE is is excited about it. Excited about this, but it doesn't look like you said like you said, it's gonna pass. Well, the thing about it is the nc double A saying we don't want to have to deal with this, and that's a crap pass way to to, you know,
to handle something like that. If they would have taken charge of this that way back when, then we wouldn't be here. Sure, sure you don't. But when you open it and we see we uh, you think that everything's gonna be fine, right, and then when they open it and it turns out to be this, you thinking why why didn't we spend more time with this? Because now it's not it's not name, image and likeness that you're selling. You're saying, come here. You're paying them to come
here without ever having to use, without doing anything right. And again that gets back to what Jenny Dalton right talked about, is that this is not what n AL was supposed to be, right, and everybody knows that part. I think they're trying to do saying okay, if this is what it's gonna be right, and then we got to regulate it something tomorrow. We'll get some more explanation in all this, right, uh, kind of because
we're gonna have Ray Wells back right to talk about Arizona situation. Right because they as he mentioned when he was on our show a couple of weeks ago, that the friends of Wilbur and Wilma was establishing a football specific nil uh. And that's what they're doing, called the desert something collective. What do we call it? I forgot the name of it, but it's it's a it's a it's light. It's like the Arizona basketball one that got for himed.
So this is going to be specific to football, so that if you don't any money, you know it's going to the football program. The question is, then, what does that leave for everybody else? Now there's a football in aals, a man's basketball in al If everybody's donating to those two, what about the rest of the again the uh, the uh step children, if that's the right to get overlooked or whatever. And we talked about
this a few times. Um, the guys of the world, the the swimmer or the diver rights are kidding kind of like, uh oh, they're the face of the program kicked to the side, Yeah, a little bit, unless you have some donors who are specific for them, all right, you know, and there might be right, I think we I think everybody's pretty much uh come to the conclusion that Oklahoma has a has a sugar daddy, Oklahoma softball as a sugar daddy, and Oklahoma State has theirs with the
coil guy. Yeah, but that but that it's specific to softball, and that they're just going around and picking and choosing the players that that they want to bring into the program. Again, you know, is buying the best ones that they can get, and that they're gonna be really good like this for a long time unless somebody else comes along and does the same thing at another school, you know, And and you know, you got to have somebody that chooses, you know, a sport, right and then there are
there are there are rich people out there who do that. Right, We'll say, Okay, I love this sport. I got you know, I know I know a number of people in businesses who really prefer to support women's basketball over men's basketball. But are they going to do that with millions of dollars of money or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide an a n I l uh kind of war chest, you know for a sport like women's
basketball or softball or soccer or you know, tennis or whatever. You know, is there going to be any kind of ability for those sports to you know, to do it. And maybe if none of the sports have that, If if none of those sports at other schools, you know, have that, well then everybody's on the same planefield anyways, then it becomes just a football and men's basketball thing. Yeah. Yeah, so we'll see what
happens. I feel sorry, and that's not the right phrase, but it feels sorry for for the smaller schools that have don't have the resources like this, the alums that they have or whatever. Well, you're just gonna go to those schools and it's gonna be like it always was, right in your scholarship. You're gonna play for a program, sure, and if you're good enough, a pro sport will come along and pick you up. And if you're not sure, to get your degree and you move on to the next
thing, right, I will. It's just kind of elevated to pay for play situation. It was it was already there, or or you go to one of those one of those schools you get really good and then Alabama or Oregon or USC or somebody comes comes calling and says, Okay, come here, you're really good, we'll give you some money to come. Did you did you read? I don't know who it was. Maybe it was justin
or somebody else about the USC and their and their situation. Was singer that he had remembered the game he had what what Caleb Williams said, yea, are we gonna go get that guy? Go get that guy? So is it that tampering? That's what somebody said. I don't know, it's tampering. If USC sent somebody to go get that guy, yeah, it's not tampering for him to say that, But it is tampering. If Lincoln Riley said to an n I l guy, go get him, that's tampering.
Jason nice catch come with us? Yeah? Did? Or did? Caleb Williams? You know you're shaking hands after the game, you know, give him a hug, whisper into his helmet. Hey, we got some money for you. That's tampering. Yeah, that's tampering. It's still too too interesting for me. Yeah, but exactly before you even started this. Uh okay, you get really good, get really good, and you go to
these places and then you don't fault him, right, No. I was trying to explain that to somebody about about about Dorian Singer and that, you know the story that the La Times did. Ryan cart At the Only Times did that said his intent when he got here was to get good enough to go somewhere else, right, And that's what he did. Yeah, he
walked Nobody asked him an opportunity, he walked on. He got good and got himself a better opportunity, and you almost can't fault him for That's that's the purpose of college on America. Yeah, that's it happen in the real world too. You get a job and then somebody else noticed you. Hey, I'll get you more money here and just come over here and play work
for us. It's called with the capitalism of capitalism. Yeah, you know, for some reason, and seeing that that was his thought process when he got here, I have way less of a problem with him leaving for some reason because it's kind of like that was the plan. Yeah, he had a plan he executed. He was very good. He executed the plan. Well, this is what the kids are told all the time. Invest in yourself, right, investing yourself, because if you're not investing yourself, who
wins. Right, he did. I can't falter him for that. I'm about the other two guys, and I care less about the other two guys. I know they're pretty good. Visible. Dorian Singer was a you know, was a big piece of what they did last year. Uh And and I can't imagine if this team had Dorian Singer right now in terms of what its offense could do. Yeah, and they've got some more good guys, but they're still gonna be very good, still gonna be very good, Yeah,
I think offense. Yeah. So I don't know, I have less of a problem with the fact that that was the plan. And I was initially pissed, like, what the hell do you want? You're starting at Arizona, why do you have to leave? You know what, what do you think is going to be better? And I lose the money money, but the visibility playing for Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, playing in Los Angeles, playing in front of you know, you know, in the LA Coliseum,
all those things, Well, mister Gonzos. I'm Dorian Singer now, mister miss Gonzos. Just because you have been left too, son doesn't mean I can't. I don't have to say that. But you understand what I say. Of course I agree. I love the food here, but in La they have pretty good food too, they do. They do you much? What's your favorite restaurant in Phoenix? Your restaurant one part of ten? Um? I don't hear your campus? Oh Tempe? No, no, no,
no, no, Phoenix? Um. Yeah, yeah, I mean I haven't been in a while, and I usually just like order out, though I don't really you didn't have a go to place? No? I don't you have a go to place in Teashi? No? I don't. Honestly, I mean I don't really order was good though it was really good. Cook a lot? Cook? Do you do? Yeah, I'm gonna. I'm a college student. I don't have a lot of money be spending everywhere. I need to cook. Okay, what your go to place?
Oh? God, that's not fair because probably I don't know, Sonic, it's not Come on, dude, that's what happened to doctor's office? Like my house sucks, dude, I should say that publicly about you don't have like a favorite great restaurant that's not fast food, No, no, I just eat stuff. No god, no, mister Odds. But can't go there every day? I don't know, dude. No. I love Poco Moms. That's my favorite place. But that's too far. I take my mom there as much as I can. Yeah, but it's it's not it's
too far. Yeah, but I do have one. Oh see, and you're not gonna eat there all that's your eat there maybe two three times a year. Oh yeah, see, it's a it's a but when I say, okay, if I'm gonna pick pick a restaurant to go to first, that's the one I take. It's way up on Sunrise. Yeah. All right, we gotta get out here. We'll be back tomorrow. Ray Wells from the New Football Collective. We'll be here. We'll talk some more na l stuff, So be sure to come back tomorrow. It's year a round
