Dreamy Live. I mean my heart Radio Whip. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay gon Silence on Fox Sports Sport Team fifteen. Hey, welcome back to I on the Ball here a Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve, he's Jay. Now we have Jason with breaking news. I on the bas University of Arizona football, our receiver Jako Cowing and offensive lineman Jordan Morgan both earned BREE season second Old Team Actual. Yeah, you know, um, every look is as as always the case. You know,
there's people say what about this guy? What about that guy? And that was one of them. One I can let me ask you, Uh, okay, that said for my my guy, he's not my guy with um with the the the rookie, what's his name? The freshman? I just teuted his name. I forgot team mac. Uh. Will you have a better year than count Aacob Coween does more? I think you know he's a go to guy. Yeah, he's a you know, he he'll catch a short pass, he'll catch you know, he'll he'll he'll make the run.
You know, he'll catch a pass and gain a lot of extra you know, Team Max is gonna catch a ball, He's gonna go up and he's gonna get the ball. We've seen him make the acrobatic catches. Um, is he a breakaway threat? Probably not Jacob Cowey, I think is you know, he's Jacob Cowny can catch a ball over the middle and turn it into a you know, a big gainer. But Team MAC is gonna be a guy that you know, you're gonna throw it to him deep and he's gonna be able to go up and get it and that kind of stuff.
So I think the different kind of receivers. I get what you're saying that, but you know, when you look at the four first team UH and first and second team wide receivers, it's hard to argue that you put Team AC up there. You got the two the two guys from Washington. You got Dorian Singer from Arizona guys make him at US he made first team USC and then you got Jacob Cowell second Team'll tell you exactly why Singer left.
I mean, yeah, come on, he's not gonna make first team if he does, if he's at Arizona, right, you're gonna have the two Washington guys are gonna be first team Singer and Colley, and maybe Singer and Colley don't both make second team because somebody said, well I'm not putting two Arizona guys. You know. But you know, team at got got an honorable mention, as did uh Michael Wiley the running I think Michael Wiley is set up to have a big year. He's been around a while.
Um, you know, he didn't have to come back this year, and he did. He's he's got his his sight set on. Uh. You know, I'm getting into the NFL. So I think, uh, I think he is, uh, he'll be He'll be somebody that's gonna be uh, you know, Jason, I'm around sure. We've asked you how many wins this year for Arizona. Um, I say six? I like six. Yeah, I think six is the number. Six is the safe number.
Yeah. But Jordan Morgan also getting the second team, So Jacob Colley, Jordan Morgan, as he said, also getting second team honorable mention for Arizona. Where Michael Wiley at running back, team ac at wide receiver. I mean I'm not I'm just nave gonna try and do his first name take to take to Roan McMillan he'll be Team AC on our show. Um Jonah Savinea offensive line honorable mention? Um? Who else? Justin Flow who's barely
even played right he's a headline backer, he's an honorable mention. Uh No, no defensive backs Uh Tyler Loop place kicker, Kyle lost dark punter uh and then um return specialist. Uh oh we had there was a was their second team? Uh? Yeah, Jacob Coweny is a second team uh returner? Just between just uh. Arizona is gonna have to score how many twin games? Thirty eight? Thirty five? Yeah, I was thinking like mid thirties, Yeah, mid thirties. Two games right now, they're gonna have
to keep people to thirty three. I just don't know if that's gonna happen. I think some of them are gonna get away from him, you know, I mean, Washington US, They're gonna get away from him. But you know, I don't see you know, I mean, you know we saw Washington State did to them, and some of these other teams. You know they did them, some of those teams that are middle of the more middle of the road teams. I think it is where they'll they'll have a
chance to win those games by outscoring people. Yeah. Um, some national news. The Cleveland Cloud of Leers won the nbas On Eligue Championship. Ye. So yesterday yeah beat Houston. Yep, and so Cedric Henderson Junior is now at nbas On Eligue champion Way to go Cedric Henderson. Yep. You just watched the games. You watch the Let we get a ring for that. Yeah, they get rings. Seriously, Yeah, you get a ring right away, You get a ring ring? Did you see that? After
after the they came in right away. I was joking, Yeah, yeah, I know. One guy said this is for you Cleveland, Monny Bates on Twitter. This is just the beginning, you know. And realistically maybe two people on that team make the team. Yeah pretty much maybe yeah, maybe that's too funny. Okay, that's finny. I was joking. Yeah, I know. They got um. So that's all I have for today.
Okay. Um just came across. Paul Skeins, the number one draft pick in the Major League Baseball Draft, set a record with his contract. Of course, he got nine point two million dollars in a signing bone. He was the one that played a LSU did. He's a transfer from Air Force that was the kids the picture. Yeah, I think so. He was a picture of the air Force. He transferred the LSU became the stud picture with the mustache. He was the one with the mustache. I think
yes, yeah, yeah. And then and then Johnson, you know, everyone's favorite in Tucson, was on the draft today the Sunday he was making on the line. You know, he's not the same guy you knew two three years ago. Yeah, he's he's he's come around. But yeah, so he broke the record that was held by um uh kind of hand it right here, um Torkleson Spencer Spencer, who also played at LSU. The record was eight point four million. So so big deal, Okay, all
right, Um what else do we have? I don't remember, I've lost it. So oh I had. I had a bunch of stuff from yesterday that we didn't use. Here we go, um oh oh oh oh um. Darn it, darn it, darn it, darn it. Did you see it Tony last night? It was the last night, thirty fourth home runt. If you bet like you were betting on him ten bucks a day for every home run, you'd have some money. Yeah, because yeah, you because you usually get pretty good odds on the guy to hit home and
he went again in the yard last night. Speaking of Outani, so there's a lot of the trade deadline coming up. There's a lot of discussion because Outani is a free agent at the end of the year. Uh, the question is do the Angels have both the money and the want to sign him or should they trade him. So there's a lot of discussion that he's gonna get traded because he doesn't want that doesn't want to be with the Angels because they're not anywhere close to being uh, you know, continue for a world
series and stuff. So, UM, a couple of a lot of different opinions about who's more likely to just sign him with the Devil Ray or just the Rays being up there, but also the Dodgers, the Mariners, and the Rangers. Um. Some people saying the Giants, but other people said the Giants don't really want him, they don't want to put the money into it that you'd need to put him. The Dodgers have that kind of money and can do that. Do you think he's gonna be worth or get paid
billion dollars? Yeah? Six or six They're they're just saying that six hundred million for one of the highest will be the biggest contract ever. Okay, wow, yeah that that will be the biggest, the biggest contract ever. Um, but you know it's uh so as long as these as stan upbreaking news, but it's funny news. Uh. The tete a tete with Oklahoma
coach Inventables and Sanders, it's coached to you. You know, I get Dion got a big ego and thinks people, you know, he should be above and because he was such a great player player both college and in the NFL, that people should not because they haven't. They don't haven't achieved what he's achieved that they people who haven't should be able to criticize him. But he's gonna have to get over this. He's gonna have to get over uh,
worrying what other people are saying about him and just coach. Look, you know we all hate being criticized. They're both right, Yeah, they're both right. Yeah. You might want to explain what devineral said. Nible said, Well, he's just talking about how how Deon Sanders, you know, emptied his his locker room, use the transfer portal, basically kicked guys off the team. Um, just inveniable is just saying that's not how you do it. Deon Sanders basically saying I'm Deon Sanders, so shut the hell
up. Yeah. Well, it was saying here's a guy who was inherited the Ferrari, right, and he was at Oklahoma, right, he had a bunch of good players. Yeah, and the coach is saying, I waited a year before all this time, but you were, you inherited Ferrari, then you wrecked the Ferrari. Yeah. You know here I'm trying to rebuild, right, and he's talking about how you know he's got the Lamborghini
and YadA yadi. Yeah, anyways, I don't know. Oh, here's here's the one that we didn't talk about yesterday, that there's gonna be a women's n i T. Yeah, I saw that. It's actually they're gonna call it the Basketball Invitation or so it's gonna be called the w b i T. But it's a it's basically an n i T thirty two team postseason
tournament for teams that don't get into the NC Double as um. It'll be run you know, run by the NC Double, a similarly similar to what the n I T has been um so um, you know they're gonna have the the wb I, the w b I, So it's different from the women's and the women's in it that was run by So this is a new league. It's nothing really new. They've had Arizona became who became because but
this is this is an efficient le ncable event. So um, I saw or heard that the number of Northwestern football players UH signing onto this lawsuit is now twelve. So again another statement that the entire Northwestern football team wasn't on board with that letter that the allegedly entire Northwestern football team sent out upset at what was being said about Northeastern football. And now you have a couple or at least one, a transferring, transferring four stars, slight starts whatever,
leaving the program to go somewhere else. And then I guess, um, um um god, what's his name? The LSU coach Brian Kelly, who said he's great friends with with h Pat Fitzgerald basically said without he kind of beat around the bush. But when you when you listen to what he said, he basically said, Pat fews Gerald either new Yeah, that's just we say the same thing about Sean you know, yeah, yeah, you know,
he said. I mean he said, look, coaches, they're around the locker room, they're at training table, you know, they they eat with them, they travel with these players. They see him all the time. You know, they're in meetings with them. You have to know. Yeah, and if you don't know, then that's a problem. Well we talked about with Sean, with Sean knowing or not knowing what. In fact,
in another news of book, Richardson is back to coaching. I don't know if you saw it, but this is a kevia and this is how it got all twisted on Facebook. He's going to coach the TBT team of the former Xavier t players in the in the Summer Games, you know the TBT, the million dollar game. So he's coaching the former Xavier coach to put a team together, to coach that team. Everyone thinks Sean brought him
back. No, no, it's not with the school. It's it's all it's the graduates who left the program who probably were there when he was coaching, so they thought well enough of him to bring him on to coach them. You know, that's cool, it's very cool because you know what, as as we've said a bunch of times book Richardson only did what is legal now. And he's and he's a good dude. He's just a good dude. He's just gonna it is. It is what it is. But he's
coming back to coach good for a book. He's a good dude. He's a good dude. It just things happen. Things, things happened on many come on, that wasn't that. That just wasn't wasn't right. So anyways, all right, um, all right, so I don't know, just other stuff. Um this this ball ball trade to the Suns. What do you think, Jason? I mean, you know, because now the uproar is okay, they didn't go get a point guard, So who's gonna be the point guard? I mean yeah, from what I've seen, it's like
they don't really need a point guard. I think you is gonna be the point guard, you know, but I don't really think it, but it will really be a point yeah, I mean it could be both guys at hand of the ball, right. I feel like in this modern NBA, like it's kind of positional us so you don't really need like a traditional point we probably used to. I just think you know a bio can ball handle, Booker can ball handle, you know, Katie Canny. So I think
I think it'll be fine. I think ball ball is gonna be good at a nice piece. But you know, how good are they championship team? Um, I'm not sure because no, Katie's health, I don't think that chemistry. They're not gonna win the West. Yeah, I mean right now I have, you know, the Nuggets coming out of the West again. But I need to kind of see them play to kind of see how they messed together. You know. Yeah, I don't Phoenix is cursed. They're
just you know, on paper every year they look good. But then we will actually play well come March, Come March, come in prog. Guess what we're gonna talk about. They have no depth, right, you know, the same thing we talked about, you know, chemistry issues. So so yeah, we'll just have to see they sold the ranch last year within the last few months to win the title last year or this year. Yeah,
it ain't gonna happen so well. And according to David Kelly, if um, if you don't, if you're on uh Comcast or Exfinity, you're not gonna get to see their games. They've gone to that great thing. Apparently, uh Cox is on it has that channel, but apparently Exfinity a slash Comcast does not. Don't I think it's gonna be directed. It's gonna be direct to pay director, direct to the channel. It's the channel director of you. I thought it was gonna be free. It is free.
The Diamondbacks too are going yeah today, the beginning today, but you can't I guess apparently you can't get them on Cox Exfinity. I'm not sure that. I'm I'm I'm saying what what our competitor or whatever you want to call him, David Kelly, he is saying on Twitter that that Cox Comcast Exfinity does not have that channel. Only Cox does, and you can get it with an antenna, you know, just a regular black and the old school, back back, old school antenna. Go hold it up, direction,
were some tin on your hand? Exactly? Okay, Hey, let's go. Because the jockey is Edward Maldonado, jockey at del Mar them our opening up this week, so we'll talk to you him about what he does.

This is I Am the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to Why in the ballg Fox Sports fourteen Cutie on Steve Rivera. He's Jacob's as that on the poe. We have Edwin maul Donado, a horse jock at del Mar. How you doing, Edwin? I'm doing great. Thank you for having me. It's great to have you on the show. We were there last September for a great day of doing video. How long have you been at del Mar and what got you into Chuck, I've
been here at Delmore for eleven years now. Tough life, saying, tough life. You live in San Diego and it's great over here. I love it like a vacation. So tell us how did you get into it? Uh? Just brand in the family. My uncle's a jockey, he was a jockey's retire. My grandpa was a jockey as well, and uh soball uncles are trained horses in Puerto Rico. And I just ran in the family.
How I was always at the track. I was a little as a little kid, when you were little, So when did you actually decide that this was the direction you wanted to go? And was there you know, a certain thing, a certain person, a certain yeah instance or what what was it that ultimately said got you up on the horse? I was says, I was a little kid. I mean, as far as I can remember five years old, I always wanted to be a jockey, but got
into a turn sixteen when I really wanted to pursue it. And uh, firstly, I got a portunity to go with my uncle to Minnesota I think it was Kenton Duder part and I started working as a hot walker and ninety nine, So that's how everything began. And I'm sure you know the danger. I'm sure you were aware of the dangers back then, having grown up in the in that business. Um, your mom didn't say, hey mehit don't don't do it. You know, she really said she really she was
happy for me. You know that I wanted to pursue the same step of my uncle. And and but yes, usual war is he she didn't want to let me go, but that's what I wanted, So she was happy. So so so being able to be at a point where you're racing at Delmar, you're kind of like kind of like, you know, you got to go through almost like minor league baseball or something like that. You got to start somewhere, and you don't you know, the first day you're a
jockey, you're not running at Delmar. Right, So tell us how this happened that you were able to work your way to the point where now you're running with some of the you know, the best trainers are the best owners and running into the place like Delmar. Yes, um it, like you said, being here, I think being in Delmore for California and being at New York or these are the top places to be as a writer. Um, like you said, I thought I worked my way up. I first
thought of that, I've seen a boy down is in Canada. There's a little bull ring, got my license there, wrote for my first month. Uh shortly after that, I moved down to Texas. I did the circuit of Texas for three years and I got I got introduced to Amos Labor, which then took me to Louisiana. I rolled the circuit of Evangeline Downs and Delta Downs, and from there I got a a friend of mine which is a jockey, Felipe, that taught me to come into California. And finally
made it to California. And my first year was an easy at to worked a lot of horses and and try to prove myself. But uh, here we are. You know, it was a quite a journey, quite a journey. And what's the biggest or some of the biggest ride you've been on? Um? But I think my biggest ride I wasn't recently this year was for uh Bob Bofford Undefunded Santana. Yeah, yeah, no, defunded is a quick nice horse. Wow. How did you get on that one with
Bafford? Uh? That I have to thank Tony Mantels for that. He's the one that got me the mount Man and uh shout. I don't know how it him about, but thanks for Tony. He's the one that got me them mount Okay, because let me tell you before we went on the air, I asked you about about excuse me, Watson A Whiteman and Pegman Pegman Um. That's that's the one of the horses red red silks and what yellow red and yellow? Yes? Yes, correct, correct yees? So
no, you're running with pretty good horses. And how was it working with with Bob Befford? That's great? You know, it's like you said, it's uh when you're riding for guys like Bob and owners like Pagram, you know, just just an accompliment for me. It's it's it's Uh, I'm very thankful for that, you know. It's so I'm looking back at your record. Um, you had an incredible year. I guess in twenty thirteen, eight million dollars in in in purses. You were in the Breeders Cup.
Talk a little bit about what that's like in terms of you as a as a as a jockey. You know how we're nervous, are you at going into races like that dream? You know you're talking about basically, you know, being in the World Series, or being in the NBA Finals, or being in the super Bowl. When you're running in the Breeders Cup. What's that like when you get to that point. Yeah, it's a it's an awesome feeling. It's it's a I think a bunch of emotion mixed together.
You know, you're a little bit worried, you know, your angel is excited everything at once. Uh, but it was it was two thousand and thirty. Things was my best year. Um, looking forward to to top my own my own year. You know, I'm always looking forward for the top, always shooting for the top. Never I'm very hard on myself,
so I'm always first sue in being leading rider. Again, So So do you have a style or do the owners or the trainers think you have a style because there's some jockeys who like to get out in the lead and stay up front, and maybe the horses don't agree. You know. You know what I'm saying, you have to kind of be one with the horse. Yes, well, I like this. I like to consider myself as a strong rider. But uh I got label as a speed rider here.
Um, I don't blame people. My first year I'm in California, I didn't I didn't get the best shot. So every horse I got was I always just put them on the league. If I had, most of them were thirty to one. So in in my mind, I said, well I got nothing to lose, you know, I might as we just put them in the racing. And I end up winning a few races on the lead and and uh so kind of got labels as speed runner. Okay, so you're a runner, You're you're delmar. Now I've seen you raced a
place like Santa an Ed or wherever. But they're they're sort of a circuit. Now that you're on right, I mean, what I tell us about what you're Let's say your schedule looks like over the course of a year, you know where you go? Uh you know, do you do? You go to a track for maybe just a couple of a couple of weeks or
whatever. How does your schedule work in terms of where you run? Well, we we we we we We have the circuit of Santa Anita for six months, and we go to Los Alamiados for u two and a half weeks, We go back to Santa and eat I think for three months, and then one one or two weeks at Lottle Salon and back to Delmar. Okay, so you're inside of the California the whole time, yes, okay, yeah, no, nice um. And now you're gonna see a lot of
Tusonans go out there because of the weather here. It's only one hundred and ten. You would say, by the way, you had it hot. We were there in September. It was like unbelievably hot in San Diego. Very hot. This year has been it's been crazy hot. Yeah, you guys always one. So so what's it like? Do you can you tell that San Diego, or at least Delmar gets a lot of people from Arizona because it's it's it's a destination place. Now, yes, it is.
We get here at Delmore, there's people from all over They come from Kentucky, they come from New Mexico. Um, like you said, Arizona. UM. There's a lot of a lot of people are coming over here. It's just a great place to be really so, so this is something that you get to do for how long? Edwin? You know? How? Yeah? I mean if you know what do you what's on your mind? As far as that goes, I've been doing it for two thousand and one, twenty two years, and you were about one thirty something. Now hold
only, I'm I'm forty forty. Well, yes, when I thought when I was eighteen years old? All right, so you know how long? How long did jockeys go? Right? Or? Is it? Is it? Is it a health thing? Is it a strength thing? Is it an age thing? What do? How long you get to do it? You can go as long as your bought it can handle it. I see him, I see him, Martin Brownie's a jockey from from Louisiana by Evangeline, and he rolled when he was sixty three. So as far as that
I can say, I've seen him sixty three years old. Ride it, right, So do you already have like a schedule of who you're gonna ride and and how often because you probably ride maybe three or four times a day or we may we reach day. Well, we get through that. We go in the morning a lot, we get on horses, but you know it gives your opportunity to get in all the horse Uh. You stay fit by by working horses in the morning. Like for example, this this morning,
I got on two horses. Yesterday I got on five in the morning. So it's very exciting. You know, today was opening today's entries for opening day, Yeah, Friday. So do you get excited like everybody else because opening day is crazy crazy? Oh? Very excited. Yeah, I looked for very forward too. Fortunately we have eight months going into opening days, so you're right eight wow? Yes, we How physical is it?
I mean because I see you guys and like you're standing up in the reins and going around, you know, going around the track a mile whatever. How physical is it? You know, it's very physical, very demanding. You You use, you use all your body, your legs, upper body, your backs, lower back, upper back, your arms. You constantly have to be looking up your neck. Everything. It's very very demanding. So how do you train for that? What type of training do you do?
You know, in terms of your physical training, You know with dockeys usually we don't. We don't. Well, some some jockeys do left weight, but we don't. We usually cut weight. We usually run, uh, we diet. But what keep us fit? To me, it's getting on horses in the morning. That's the best exercise, sauce. So you you said you have eight mounts, you're probably gonna be on I don't know.
Uh. And in the stretch there maybe forty fifty horses. How do you can you tell the difference between one horse to another because every horse is different. Yes, every horse is different. It is I always say every horse is different. It's just like they have their own Uh. It's like dogs. The dogs. You can walk a dog, but they all have their own person out of here, right, Yeah, So how do you
know? So you do you get on them before you actually ride ride them for the first time, because you have to get used to them, their style, or at least find out what their style is. Most of them, I'd say fifty fifty most I did get on them before I wrote them, and most I just couldn't didn't get that opportunity too. But um, like I said, I mean after riding so many horses and riding so many years, kind of get to know what it what it would what it is
like to to what the personality of the horse would be. When do you know that the first time you've read you're riding a horse? I mean, how far do you have to go to kind of get a sense? Okay, this is what I have today to to I mean after it could be right away, it could be uh, they're in the race. I mean it's just they to me, I compare them with like dogs. If you if you've been around dogs, you know certain dogs or someone can be aggressive,
some very mellow some um si. So same with horses. Interesting thing, right, and then they have the trainers to tell them you gotta do that. This is what they want from the road, right right, go out early or laid back and then attack right. Yes. A lot of times, a lot of times we look at the the reruns and replaced off the horse. If I've never been on the horse, I like to look at the races that passed perform. So, so do you have kids?
Do you have kids? I got two daughters here. Okay, I say if you had sons, I mean even daughters, would you would you say, I mean heat the go ahead and go and be a jockey. No, no, my lettle Ones, she wants to be a jockey. But I don't see that happening. I can't let that happen. That means you do very well to keep them out of the out of the races. You gotta do some more money. Okay. So what's worse riding on it?
Like an extremely hot day which we were at one and our last year, a really really hot day, or slop your track where the mud is kicking up and it's in your face and you're not in the lead, which is worse. A hot day? A hot day's worse hot days? Why is that? It's just the heat? I mean, as it is, one is a nice day and you're riding, and you you ride through or four back to back, it's it's very like I said, it's very tough,
very physical. So the heat just makes it ten times worse. Yeah, what you talked about defunded, was that the biggest ride did you win? And what was your biggest win? And how did that feel? I think, Yeah, he was he was my biggest win. It felt it felt great. I mean, it's it's this You've been doing it for so long, and for you to get the chance to win a great one on a horse like him, uh, shortly after he runs second and the veggest is sixteen million dollar racing. Uh. You know, just to be on a
horse like him in my career, it's a compliment, you know. You don't You could go a whole career, forty years riding and never never meet a horse like him, have a horse like him, but just things a lot. So I'll be looking for mul Donado and absolutely Bafford because I follow Bafford with his horses. So do you have anything on the top of your head that you're going to be in the next couple of weeks. I'm actually waiting for the overnight to come out, right, Okay, So do I
do. I've been on a lot of babies, two year olds, very excited looking forward to look for the first time. Great, great, we'll get him to the derby. Get him to the derby. Yeah, yeah, he's right there on the sheep. Yeah, dude, I never I never looked. I don't look beyond like okay, who who do who do the
who do the odds makers? Thing? Yeah? Yeah, no, I was gonna I thought you were gonna say this. I've never thought about being a jockey, only when I was ten years old. But I could make a point. You know, I saw, I saw my brothers. I knew I wasn't gonna be that was gonna make weight. Yeah, because you have to stay right right you. That was fun. It was really fun. So anyways, that was fun talking to Ed
when wild. Okay, so I got I've been itching. I gotta tell this funny, funny horse racing story. Okay, Uh, you know my brother Ed, big, big horse racing fan. So back when I was covering, Uh, you have a basketball. So we're on the we're on the LA trip, you know, Thursday, Thursday, Saturday game. So my two brothers, Rick and Ed, they come on the trip with me,
and on the Friday we go to San Anita. Um, so we get there, you know, we get there, you know when the races are about to start, and we buy the program and we got the binoculars and doing the whole thing. Yeah, doing all the tourists stuff. We're taking pictures that the you know, in the paddock and the whole bit. I mean, this is big time horse racing. You know that I had been there a couple of times before because I had a friend who lived right
there in Monrovia. But so it was my guess, why don't you guys come on the trip. We'll go to Sandon needed between games. So we go and we get there and we get the program in the whole bit, and my brother goes, Willie Shoemakers here, remember Willie Shoemaking, the doctor right in the Hall of Fame, doctor Willie Shoemakers. Here he's running. I'm betting on I'm betting on him on every race. And the first race that Willie the Shoe runs, hey, I mean he came in so far
last place. But he was so excited about betting on Willie. We all were. We were so excited about betting on Willie Shoe. It was like watching Babe Ruth right or you know, you know this is remember this isneteen eighty eight, eighty seven, eighty eight time frames. So he was on. He was he was at the end of his career, and we were so excited about Willie the Shoe. So my brother puts all this money on Shoemaker. His horse was in last place, like way back from the get
go. By the time Willie the Shoe came around the finish line, my brother wanted wanted him retire, and he wanted and retired right now. He didn't want to bet on him one more time ever, he was. We all were pretty upset, but my brother was like, he needs to retire. He they shouldn't let him get on a horse ever again. And he was and this was a sensible brother. Right. Yeah, it was pretty
funny, but we were so excited. It was kind of like, you know, it's kind of like we were seeing the Hall of Famer and then the Hall of Famer was as bad as he could possibly have been. It was pretty funny, a great It was a great time. Wait, I love going to send you don't You don't went to you know, we did a baseball trip one year, went to some Dodger games and went to Hollywood Park before the Dodger games one day and a great time. Unfortunately, that's
why I spent some of my honeymoon. You know, I'm going to Hollywood Park. Was had one year was let's just say it was a fat during my divorce. Okay, well, and it's not in a good area. It wasn't in a good area. That's what the new stadium is. Yeah, let's just say that this summer that I went to Hollywood Park. By the end of that summer, I had moved out of the House's probably during your don't get me married. You have to solve these problems, Jason.
Don't listen to him. Okay, okay, Number one, don't listen to him. You know what the number one reason for divorces. Yeah, Jason, I've been married to the most incredible lady, incredible woman on the planet for nearly thirty three years. She's a saint. So don't listen to him. You find you find the right person, you go for it. Of
course, right, just saying don't listen to Steve. There's a phrase in Spanish that says and it means that it goes well, that it goes well right right, and not in a good, you know, sarcastic talk. Somehow I knew this was going to come up today when we were talking to horse Racey and I just really just shoot, I would say that every time you do something that if you see me, if you see my brother asked him about Willie the Shoe. He was He'll tell you every time you make
one of these crazy bets. Willie the shop you WILLI the shoot it. It was like, it's like when we went to an Angels game summer before summer before last, last summer, to an Angels game summer before last, Shoeo tanih didn't hit it, didn't do it anything. You gotta single up the metal. And that was this little poor guy was really upset. Come on, jo Hey, it's something hard. Do you do you watch the videos of when he hits a home run. Yeah, the sound that his
batmans when he hits the ball. Yeah, did you see the last I never heard that from me. You see the last ones. He did something he had really done. He flipped his bat like yeah, yeah, hell with you, because he walked him the previous yea, the previous. Yeah. But he when he hits the ball, it sounds different from It sounds different from anybody else. Sounds different from anybody who's you know, guys like Bo Jackson, you know who who just hit monster home runs, hit the
ball, you know, jose Can Saco, some of those. It sounds just different. Well, I just remember the sound of Barry Bonds. Yeah, some of him just kind of like he was carrying a toothpick. He was just none of none of Barry Bonds homer sounded like show Heyo Tany's homer and sound. So we'll see. Yeah, I hope that the Reds played the Dodd Diamondbacks this weekend. I think I'm not sure what you're going, but the diamond Backs are on the slide. They're on the slide. I
think they have about three or four in a rona. Yeah, I think we're planning to hustle up there after after a show the first week of August that the Dodgers are the diamond Backs. So the weekend or a week on a weekday, a week remember that the second, second, second or first second is football football media. You didn't remember for a second, Yeah, the first and the second. Yeah, one of those days today two.
I think it's it's gonna catch up to us. We're gonna be gonna be well, we got media day on Friday, and Ye're gonna be going crazy. So right, yeah, okay, I mean I'm gonna miss a lot of them right up in the air because well, it starts at eight. I think it starts at eight with clear Clough is gonna be talking and then I think Fish is first, right, No, no, it was an
alphabetical thirty. Actually, Kyle Willingham it's first. But if Fish is like the third one up at simply thirty him and then the two players are up from ten thirty to el. Okay, you're gonna have to tell me, maybe how I can get clips's pack network? Um? Can we load clips here? Um? Yeah? You got to record it though, yeah, ask me Paul to do it. Maybe I'll say, okay, if it's on YouTube by then, literally it could be on YouTube. Okay, okay, Jackson, you'll be your fright of it. Yeah. Yeah, don't
get sick, man, don't find another job. Yeah? Are you scrambling again? Yeah? You don't skip because because I love you. I'll see if I'll see what my layover looks like. Oh, if we can pull them off, if I can pull them off and then drop them somewhere from you'll have where you going to Dallas first, Denver, Denver to Dallas. Okay you might have time. Yeah, okay, we don't need much, no, just you just need to fish tails the good stuff man, fish
tails? Did you see Okay? Okay, do you see what the pac twelve conference did on Twitter today they posted, Uh, these three coaches are making their uh their PAC twelve media day debut. You know who one of the coaches was, uh Fish, Jetfish. Yeah, that's all Jetfish. I went on there and said, ums, this would be Jetfish is third media days. They're saying they deleted that, they deleted the twet. I
don't know if they ever put something back up. And that might have been our friend Ryan might have done that, or maybe one of his help was somebody that he works with, because he would know better. He's been back come on or yeah, right, you write Ryan would no better? Somebody some in turn? Yeah, yeah, it's funny, it's funny. I used to write for Fox Fox. Uh, Bobby Olson, Bobby Olson. People didn't know Bobby Olson Dallas who edited the stuff? Right? Yeah?
You put Bobb why? Oh why? What the hell is no? I know how to spell Bobby's name. Yeah, well, we don't know what the hell? Well why did you change exactly? Was there anything ever worse than somebody who would change something in your story to make it wrong, to make it wrong. It got it right and then they'd make it wrong.
Thank God for the Internet because it can fix it now, But when you wake up in the morning and you read the pens in the newspaper and it's always going to be in the paper and the archives and all, and you're reminded about it, yeah every day. Yeah, absolutely, by the time you spell ye, and then they won't believe you that I know how to spell your name Fred, someone else spelled it wrong, Like today, I switched the Times and she switched Times on her social media. You go back,
you fix it and you delete the bats. But I did. I saw that today and I'm like, come on, guys, really, yeah, I mean, that's really what you did. So so I'm gonna ask Jed. My first question is going to be third year. Oh, this is his third year. I hope to ask this question third year, what are his expectations because some of the guys are his guys. Yeah, some of the guys maybe not most of the maybe not seasons and he bought in
guys who he wanted. What are the expectations from himself, not from other people, because you know your third year in now, yeah, these are your guys, no more, no more? Oh, these are the other guys right right, and the other guys were bad now having talked to who do we talk to? Washerman talked about the thousand one in a thousand. I'm thinking, well, the crowd that was bad stop horrible, like horrible
him? How bad was it when he got here? If he says, oh, that's that's another great cre that's just how bad, that's the follow up, that's could be the follow up. How bad was it? Yeah, you lost the NAU. How bad was right? And he'd probably be a guy about it. He could be more open about it. Yeah, you'd be a nice guy about it. But he'll say we've He'll say something like, well, we've improved our talent, you know by x X or whatever. Um. I think that's what he'll do. He's because he's not
gonna bad month. The guys that were there, because they were say what you want about how bad they were. They did look like they were working hard. Yeah, until the seventy seven No, no, no, the next you know fishes first they did. Those guys did look like they were working hard, and you know, they just didn't have good enough players, and they had bad enough players to lose to ANAU that year. That still stings. What's going on? It's gonna you're not supposed to do that.
That was still stings. You know, I don't know, but yeah, I mean, I really I know it's going to but I really hope that Jayden Delora's stuff. They can bang it out and get it out of the way and then go into the stuff. Yeah, you know. Part of it will be how how they respond to questions about it quickly they can diffuse. He goes on, do you know what him? He goes right after the right after jet, right after they have the coaches and the coaches and
then the players later. No, no, they're they're they're all uh, they all come on and that could be listened to and watched on the PAC twelve dot org. Well yeah, pac pac cob Networks. You can go on the website. I'm sure you can watch it. Uh, you can see it that day as well. Um, I mean you can watch it on their on their website. Uh yeah, no, you can. You can see you can see all of that. You'll be able to watch it live, right Okay, you're not digging up the times right now? Always
watch Okay, here here's the schedule. For about a minute a half. Utah goes first eight forty five eight forty five in the morning. Uh. So CLAYF. Coff will be before that USC at nine twenty. So each one of them is a twenty five minute thing just with the coaches. Oh no, oh, no, thirty five minute thing. So you got you know, it's it's coaches and players, coaches and players. So Utah, USC, Stanford, Arizona at ten thirty. Uh, then Washington State,
Oregon State. There's a break in Washington, Oregon, SU, Colorado, cal Colorado, and UCLA is the last one. They go on to three fifty five. I can't I can't remember going to a football I went to eighteen eighteen basketball and we always have breakouts after this, right, I think there's breakouts, but they won't be on because they'll go live on the TV. And then they got then they got to go do the studio show, so you'll get more information. They get more stuff there. But claff Coff
starts at eight o'clock in the morning. Okay, I'll get up. I guess. Come on, if you're an old guy, you go to bed at thirty after you have your tapioca, then you get up three o'clock in the morning of the week. Another old guy. All right, we'll be back tomorrow.
