Went to Phoenix watch a game and put a little number on it, just as small because I wasn't too cofugh and I didn't really care. And yeah, from the from the kickoff to the end, it was like, holy crap, what happened?

Yeah, but Philly was a better team. Yeah, Philly is a better team. I was supprised how Mahomes had no time to throw. I mean, his old whole line is getting dominant, and when he threw it looked like he didn't know what he was doing. Yeah, it was just one of those games. Looked like the Buccaneers Super Bowl. Yeah, I mean, and let me try to put some perspective on this. I do with you kids all the time. So there's three hundred and sixty five days of the year.

Your life is going to school, right, I don't know what you do in the summer, maybe find a job or maybe. Yeah. How many bad days into three hundred and sixty five days do you have? Are bad? Like bad?

Yeah?

I mean there's definitely a few and a few give me a number twenty, Yeah, like like ten, twenty.

Okay, so guess what Mahomes had one of his ten or twenty? Yeah, you know, and he's had a lot of good gays, a lot of some somewhat bad days. He's been able to survive some of those bad days, especially doing a football season. Yeah, and you thought that maybe if even I don't know, maybe after the first orders half you're thinking, hmmm, they still might have a chance.

Yeah, only ten to nothing. She's a comeback from this before, right, Yeah, but it was but not even a half. You're thinking didn't have to pull out a miracle. Yeah, it's dominated from the start.

He looked, He looked great, the same. There are people saying he was too overweight coming in, but he looked fine. I mean, they're gonna be agreed to.

It was funny thing. Uh, people in general were saying that he's overweight nose. Yeah, I think even the Dallas ownerships are saying this. But can he still play basketball?

Yeah? I mean I think yeah, I think he'll be fine. I mean, Luke, that may be that weight maybe big for you or me or whatever by the naked eye, but to him, Yeah, it's called Tuesday. Yeah, it's called Wednesday. I mean he plays that way. Yeah, he's He looked like that last year in the playoffs and he was great.

And he was he was wasn't the leading scorer of the league last year.

Yeah, So your your weight and my weight in somebody else's weight, that says you're overweight?

What does that mean? Not a damn thing.

Yeah, because it's how he plays, It's how he plays.

Yeah, I mean, would he be better? We may never know, but he's pretty damn good at the weight he's playing.

Yeah, unless it becomes an issue where he misses games like Zion, I don't see him like a problem.

Yeah, right right, And that's different because saying it's like when you ask some of the running backs that have come through Arizona and you see other backs in the league who are five to six, five seven, even nooah, he's too small, he's too short. He's do this, do that, but they get the job done. He says, don't you think you'd be better bigger? Well, this is all I know. Yeah, I am who I am. Yeah, and guess what I do pretty well because you accommodate for who you are.

Yeah, you can't change that. You can't change that. And you've played this way pretty much all your life. Yeah, and you've done pretty well for sure. Otherwise you wouldn't be there. Yeah, you know, so we'll see. I didn't see the game. I read about it that he had.

He didn't have a fantastic game numbers wise, but he I guess Lebron had thirty two or something like that.

He was on mint restriction and they did play the Utah Jazz. But they look great and they're gonna be a great team, like there are contenders easily Lakers. Yeah, so the world is going to be okay now, yeah, you know for people who are Lakers fans.

Yeah, you know, I'm not a big Lakers fan. As that people know. I want to wear my goal to State Warriors. I think that that.

The New Warrior tell me I'm Nicks No, no, no, but the New Warrior guy got Jimmy Butler. I think today or whenever they play next, right, he's gonna be on h he's gonna be playing. Yeah, he's been played the last two games. I think they're two and zer with him. Okay, so he started to play two.

Yeah, I'm a fan. I don't even pay attention to that. So so we'll see. I think they're going to be better too, Yeah, for sure. And we'll see how Steve handles him and then the rest of the guys. Yeah.

The NBA, there's a lot of good teams out there. The West is loaded, so shall see.

Right, you see that the Super Bowl averaged a record of one point seven one point two seven million US viewers. Wow, and the game was a dud. Yeah, the game was a dud pretty much from start to finish. Did you watch your halftime Yeah? I did you get the halftime show?

Yeah, uh for whatever reasons, right when they didn't get it because they didn't get it. Yeah, yeah, they didn't get it whatever the message was. Yeah, and I saw it from a distance because I wasn't paying attention. Uh No, I don't know. I don't I don't get into that little rivalry stuff with Drake and oh yeah and Serena and all them.

Yeah, Serena Willing did not expect Serena Williams.

I figured, you know, b YU to me athletically, like across all sports, is they're gonna come and they're gonna get after it. They're gonna play you, They're gonna play you hard. They remind me of the Stanford Athletic Department across all sports. They're gonna you know, they're gonna come. They're gonna come, and they're gonna come to ready to play.

But I didn't.

I didn't think. I figured, you know what, we're gonna out athlete them, and I think at the end of the at the end of the day, Arizona's gonna win. And the same thing with Texas Tech. I'm going that one was close the first time and we ended up they ended up losing at the end.

So you know, all things you know.

Being equal, what what what is always The common thinking has always been home court advantage is worth ten points.

Ten point. I thought it was like six to me, but.

Well, to get the point it used to be it used to be ten. I think maybe the talent pool is spread out more because I mean I was always I've been the last couple of years, you know, with a ten point win, I've always been kind of frustrated with that, Like they only beat them by ten. But if, okay, if if a home point home court advantages were somewhat between six and ten points, Arizona had Iowa State by twenty for a while, Yeah, they ended up winning by what what was that one?

Fourteen? Take away six?

That means that means they have they should have the ability to win over there.

By eight or so? No six or eight? No, why not?

So in that, by that thinking, Arizona has absolute zero shot to win in names are if they if they win there, that it would be the most colossal upset of college basketball history.

Let me say no, no, let me talk for myself. Senor if they beat Okay eight, if they beat Iowa State up there, that would be a nice win, not a surprising win. But I was assuming that Iowa State would probably be a four point favorite if they went on the road. In that situation, I'm sold on this team. It wouldn't be a colossal No, this team is fairly good,

Well, well, and that's that's like Kansas State. Now, I mean, what are they won game over five hundred, But they've won five in a row. They've won five in a row, so so they have that one word we don't talk about. The thing is is the five games before that they lost all of those?

Thing is is like everybody you know before the season started, we're going, you know, if Arizona goes fifteen and five in.

The league, huge, they're gonna be good, huge.

Top four, top five, whatever.

There what are they now? Ten and one, eleven and one?

Where's the four? Where's the four losses?

I mean they're gonna be I think they're gonna be in every game and like the Iowa State game should be close because they're two good teams. Right now, Arizona's played the Arizona has played their way into being considered a good team. Yes, are they great? Are they great team?

Are they a great team? The next eight or ten weeks will tell us.

So, so there's that.

The other point is Luca has never been a madonnas.

He was never godlike.

He came into the league with baby fat and to me, I'm going, he just looks like an older baby.

Now, so what's the difference.

Well, it's like him and then and the guy from Denver. You, I mean, these dudes, aren't they' but you know what they do? They played basketball very well. They just played basketball.

They're you know, it's funny because they look like they're like what you know, call like like like farmer strong or farm strong whatever they call that.

You know.

They just they come in and they play and so I don't know why people would say that he was fat, well, because it's I don't pay attention because I don't know.

That's kind of like our definition of what that is. But I'm sure you saw white man can jump a number of years ago. This dude with his hair that and he looks like this slub and all of a sudden he plays with this other guy. I forget snipes and they pull off wins. You know what I'm saying. Looks matter, but they really don't. But they really don't. It's like when Jay and now when I Jay and I used to get in these fights. You know, uniforms and how you look. Crap. Hell, no, give me a player.

He No, that doesn't matter.

Now if he's does he is he getting injured because of stress on his knees. Well, he's a big man, and it doesn't matter if he's you know, a few pounds slider. Is that going to make the difference on those big, big joints on a on a big, you.

Know, strong person.

Probably not.

It just might be that you know, he can't take the stress.

And he's he is twenty five years old.

Luca's only twenty five. I don't pay attention to the NBA game, so not these uh, these uh European players. I have no no clue as to.

Clear, right now, clear, right now. It's called out here a little little little snow. But uh just like like you know, intermediate you know, light droppings or whatever.

That's called snow. I know we don't see it very often down here.

So you you, uh you you were an athlete here for did you did you like the schedule?

The Thursday Saturday? Maybe an occasional long day. These games are long waits.

Yeah, you know, you know obviously as a player and as a coach, you know, you kind of want to kind of want to get to the games, and so the Thursday Saturdays seemed to be a nice rhythm back in the day. But yeah, we have longer breaks in between now and so, uh it just it just makes you be patient and gives your body a little more rest. But I know players and coaches they want to get to it.

Yeah, No, is it a I don't know, is it a benefit for the individual because they can get some rest or is it more anxious, like you say, let's just play?

Yeah, I mean I think it's a little bit of both. I mean, obviously, coming into the Big twelve, we know we're going to do a more physical league, which it has been, and so that extra day of rest has been good. And so yeah, you kind of can look at it both ways. But I'm sure staff wise, you know, I'm sure they're happy that when guys are banged up a little bit, they got that extra you know, twenty four or forty eight to kind of get them right.

Yeah, so I think you and I have had this discussion Pebbe on the show not too long ago, maybe two months ago, and I said, in my time, and I've been here before you got here, a little before you got here, the Arizona teams aren't normally known for being physical. And if I were to go back, and I would say one of the last ones. And I'm not saying this because you're on the show maybe ninety six,

Yeah, you know, I think I always we always kind of go back and forth with that a little bit, you know, I definitely think it's a little bit of West Coast bias that since we since we're out here with all this son and that we're all just kind of at the beach and we just don't want to play physical, And I don't necessarily believe that's the case.

So how do you like the toughness of this team?

I like the toughness of this team. I think it's taking a while just for maybe for coach Lloyd to kind of have these guys understand and realize what exactly, you know, what being physical is what Big twelve basketball looks like. And you know, ever since we can go back to Lubbock, the first time the team went through Lubbock and lost that game up there, their last loss, you know, that was a teachable moment where we got pushed around the gym. TJ. Toppin obviously was dominant that night.

It's funny your guard and historically here at Arizona. You know, Lootstans were a guard oriented. You guys ran ran the show. If you guys were good, the team was good. I'm not going to say that that's the case with this one, because if Henry's good in Milwauka is good. This team has been fantastic.

No, they really have. And so you know, the nice thing about Arizona's wins and the street they're on a six in a row and thirteen in the last fourteen, has been it's been a team effort. You know that they've got really good contribution to that of some of their starters, but the bench has been spectacular. You know, kJ Lewis and Henry Basari and Carter Bryant making up. You know, the heavy minutes from the bench have been

Yeah, yeah, no, no question, it's been no And I called it the last two games, the last two big victories, a sprinkled game, because you get sprinkles from everybody, you know, little this, little, that, little that from.

Everybody exactly exactly, so it makes it. That's what makes it so dangerous. You know, you know what Caleb's going to bring, and he's been He's been great, you know, the last four games, averaging nearly twenty one points, fifth of the league in scoring. So you know, as the former player of the Year, and you know, going back to last year in the Pac twelve and now you know, probably projecting out as a first team All Big twelve,

Let me make this comparision, and it just kept popped into the mom I haven't really thought about it much, but either comparison or comp with you and kJ kJ is not that much of a score. You weren't because you didn't shoot that much. You were more of a of a ball handler, kind of defensive guy. Do you see does do you see a little of you and him?

Most definitely, especially in both our ability to kind of affect the game without scoring.

You know.

Having said that, kJ, at this point his career is probably a little bit better.

Keep in mind kJ is a two. I was a one who could play the one, two and the three, so and so we're a little bit different in terms of position wise, but our ability to get hands on balls to take certain individuals out of games. I see a lot of similarities there. So you know, he's somebody. Obviously as a defender, my eyes gravitated to really quickly when he first got on Campra's like, whoa, this kid has a chance to be an elite leat defender and uh and panning out that way.

So so when you're when you can play the one, two, three, but mostly a one, and he's kind of like a one, two more two. He's a kind of bowl like you do you is there an emphasis or you just kind of just play? You know, I got a score or I got a defend or their you know what I'm saying.

Yeah, No, I think we just I think he kind of has the same mindset I do. We just play, you know, we just play and what happens happens. The main focus is winning and I and I and I see that with him. You know, he he's a winner. He's a guy who wants to win, so he'll do whatever it takes. Dive all loose balls, you know, have maybe twenty points or one game, have four points. Whatever a coach Wooden Staff needs from him. He seems to be that guy.

Yeah, yeah, I think I've already asked you you like this team, can you talk real quick because you're with the team now. Uh, the job that kind of Tommy has done and turning this thing around from two months ago.

Yeah, you know, there was obviously two months ago we were sitting i believe maybe even one game under five hundred or maybe one over, and there was a lot of concern ncies on about you know, just the makeup of this team and and kind of how how were things gonna go. Everyone's talking about maybe this is going to be.

A long season.

Yeah, you know, to Tommy's credit, you know, they made some adjustments in terms of you know, u of starters and coming off the bench. Obviously moving kJ Lewis from from a starter onto the bench really seemed to kind of be that that magic term for the team where you know, you had you had a guy like Anthony del Orso in the starting lineups a comfortable natural position for him. He had Trey Townsend he was starting, and so these guys are a little bit more comfortable. And

Yeah. No, there's lots of Like I totally agree with you. I asked this question of most of the people that come on. You have some experience, not something you have a lot of experience. Okay, So, and I don't remember ninety four, you guys were standouts with Damon and Kalid and yourself and JB those guys. So you guys were pretty depth. You know, you had some good depth. Okay, So now they're in the rough and Double Big twelve.

It definitely takes this toll, you know, without question. And I think that's universal throughout all the lease. I'm sure an the SEC they're beating each other up right now and AC and Big East, and so everybody is kind of going through it where you know, we kind of laugh as players, like no one's healthy at this time of year. But that's the million dollar question. Is Ken your program or Ken Arizona withstand that you know we've already seen last game, Trey Townsend was out with a

Well, that said, I want to put some perspective on it because you know, guys like being on radio or in the media, we're overweight dudes who don't play the game. We write about it, We asked, ask questions, get reactions. You guys are the players eighteen nineteen, twenty twenty one years old. This is what you do. I mean, you play basketball, right, whether it's physical or otherwise. Yeah, I mean, is there is there is there a bad question in

No, I mean these guys are built for this. You know, if I go back to my own career, I play you know from sixteen to thirty two, right, you know, I never took off two weeks and so I was constantly in shape, constantly, you know, just staying prepared. And these guys are the same way. The young kids have come through AU ball where they're playing just as country, international and everything, and put the weight on and just the rigors of every day college being in the Division

It really is. You know, Kansas State really quick, you know this is a good basketball team. Yeah, that you know, Kim Palm saying is one of the best, is one of the hottest teams in the country, along with Arizona. They've they've kind of figured some things out, shortening their bench, you know, they're playing better on both endo the floor. So tonight tonight, and I think it's gonna be sold out. I'm anticipating that it should be. It should be electric, and it should be a really good game.
