Breaking down all the exs and os. It's Steve Lamera and Jaden Summits. This is I on the book on Fox Sports fourteen. Different. Okay, welcome back to I in thebaut here on Fox Sports fourteen. I'm Steve, he's Jay. You're Jason, giving a full load of our history of they singles. Man, you guys were in the prehistoric age year Wow, wild

stuff. Okay, was breaking new. So the University of Arizona Vice President and Director of Athletics Davey has appointed Kristen Arquila as Arizona's an Athletic News Senior Associate a D for Compliance. Whoa, Okay, I didn't know that. I didn't happened to that. Okay. Did they send a release from the old a D for compliance? Yeah, I didn't see with the old one,

but it was sent out today. Okay. Cool. The University of Georgia football recruiting staffer Victoria Bowls she has been fired less than a month after following a lawsuit against the university's athletic association. Yeah, she was. She was going to the car rash right. Yeah. She's been on leave because

she refused to talk to investigators about what would happen. Apparently she's only she was only making twelve thousand dollars a year, so now she's looking she's seeking more than about two hundred thousand dollars in the suit, probably more, and from the kid who got drafted. Right, So it's a big convoluted mess. Wow. Well, I mean yeah, you know, damages and things

like that because hospital. I mean, yeah, there were a lot of things going wrong in there, so right, yeah, boy, I mean you gotta feel bad for all that that's happened to everybody, but these things always wind up in court. Yeah. The former number one RAN tennis player Caroline Wasniak. She was deading MC and then when his game in her game went to hell in a hand basket, both of them another reason, another reason, Jameson's that guy. But Rory fell in love with somebody else.

He's got a couple of kids now he's doing great. Yeah, and she went off and got married. I think she's she's put out a couple of kids as well. Anyways, Yeah, the news. So she announced her come back to tennis after retiring three years ago. She earned her first win today at the Canadian Opening Mantra. Good for her time one of the Williams sisters lost yesterday. I think I think Venus. They called her sweet Caroline, Okay, so you know, yeah, that was not that I was

not that I was following her or anything like that. Okay, sure, sure, she's from Denmark. I think I'm not sure. Okay. The Patriots are signing their former home grown pass rush for Trey Flowers. He won a Super Bowl and two titles in New England before leaving to destroy So he's coming back home, coming back, all right? What is it? Who? Who? What is he? He's a pass rusher? Okay? Yeah? Uh. The former number two overall pick Jabari Parker signed with FC Barcelona,

the Spanish club. He was actually number two behind Andrew Wiggins. Wow, he's six fourteen. Jabari Parker or Duke Duke great? Yeah, so I was gonna say, and not to not to rip Duke because they've obviously done very well, but they're they're graduates. They have been great. Like people who say consider him the greatest college basketball player ever. No, the dude that made the shot against Kentucht Christian Latern. You know, they didn't

have hardly any of them. Very few make long term, long term yeah, yeah. Uh, the Vikings will are going to be wearing a jersey patch on our classic uniforms, which will be honoring Bud Grant for their regular season opener against the Buccaneers. Bud Grant, Man, you took him to four Super Bowls and didn't win any bummer for him. I liked him. I liked the Vikings during that time. I mean really did Joe cap who's thet the Purple People leaders, you know, Alan Page, Alan Page.

Uh, that was right in the middle of the seven. Remember Jim Marshall, the linebacker, linebacker who once recovered a fumble and ran the wrong way. With all that, all right, we dated ourselves right there, really bad. Chris was listening, sorry, but for Vikings dated ourselves really really bad. Specific going back to this uh the ACC thing, it sounds like, uh, the the ACC is also interested in SMU, which is like, I'm SMU makes way more sense than Calan Stanford. But they said that

they've been preliminary talks with Callen Stanford about joining the ACC. It is preliminary, but they are clearly exploring it. Oh so I brought this up during the during the break seeve the Orioles announcer. Yeah, you know, I mean here Baltimoreal's play by play guy. All he did was they were getting ready to start opening a series with Tampa Bay and talking about how they were oh and fifteen and the had horrible losing street against Tampa Bay, hadn't hadn't

won a series against Tampa Bay since twenty seventeen. All facts, all truth, nothing wrong with it, and he didn't he wasn't making fun of it. He just said it and reported it because that's what was going on in a pregame show. And they suspended him. What the actual Yeah, A lot of people have come to his defense because he just was doing his job.

I'm trying to remember. Oh, I won't say what. I won't say what, but it would be like working for the U of A. And you're I don't know if you're on the clock with him or whatever, but you're you're supposed to be in a broad rock guy and saying that a sho is beating you seven straight times, And that was pretty much sir. Bryan Jefferies has said that what days you went four in a row recently,

you're having a row. Yeah, And but if you say some negative stuff, oh, by the way, you said something, but they don't. You need you don't and that's just so petty. And the Orioles. Yeah, they are taking a beating for it in the media, as they should, as they freaking ship. Well did you did you see what happened to the guy? So the guy, he's the youngest guy, young young guy,

saw the video. Good at what he does. I guess. I got an email from some guy, some some team earlier saying that he has been offered seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars to work to be a play by play for Have you heard of cam Soda? So it's kind it's it's a it's a portant side, I guess for for stuff and to come and do play by plays for the seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars to come in. And they were serious about it because I got the one year deal, half

a year deal the rest of the baseball season contract. We understand you've gone through some tough times. I'm glad. I'm glad I was able to say that I never heard of it and then told me it was a porn site because I hope my wife was listening that I do not know what that. I don't know if it's a porn, but it's a porn something. Yeah, okay, some of her fifty thousand, I said, okay, one leg goes here, one leg goes there. Okay, come on, Steve,

you're bringing the show down. We just got a call her got more listening. Oh my god, it's just kind of strange. Anything else, No, no, so the tea went back to practice today. I did not go to day too busy to do another stuff. But I would assume that things are going to the practice. Yeah yeah, so no, no tomorrow, but Thursday. Yeah, so it's muggy. Did you go Yeah? I did? Is it muggy? Awful? Muggy? What do you mean outside? Oh yeah, it's been hot, yeah, but today it's

been it's kind of muggy. Yeah. I mean luckily got out of shade, you know, so I mean it wasn't too bad. I'm a wasading Watts, so yeah, you know. Yeah. Oh, here's what I don't know if you saw this ESPN through through Disney is going into uh is joining or I know it's you know, a partnership I guess with Pen Entertainment, which is a gambling company. Right, So ESPN is going to be a gambling is it is? It is ironic here Disney Disney, which is

are you just feeling pretty heavily in debt big time? Right? I think that's one of the problems. I stay up until December. Well my point is this family sting. There's no venturing into this thing gambling, and it might save the company. I don't know. There's gotta be a reason why they're doing it. Well, they're doing it because, it says pen which is based in Pennsylvania. This is according to a story uh in the La

Times. We'll pay one point five billion dollars in cash over the next ten years for the rights to use the ESPN name as part of its gambling. Hire hire everybody back. Yeah, yeah, they were. They were previously in a relationship with barstool Sports, which is going back to what you're getting rid of and going basically going that ownership pieces went back to barstool Sports.

Okay, so they will no longer be a partner with barstenal Sports, but uh so they're gonna, says penn will put esp the ESPN on the online on its online sports book products that currently used its barspitual Sports brand. Names in the sixteen states where it operates. What does it mean for boar Stool Sports? I mean, will find somebody else. So basically it's one point seven billion in cash over ten years. So what's that one hundred and fifty

million a year? ESPN man going going and gets some money. Yeah, bring everybody back, Let's hire everybody back, and let's start going to games again. Instead of calling them from from TV, the Arizona could have just waited one more week for a TV year. You know what, if they're like me, it's already spent. It's already spent. You gotta go. You gotta go make the donuts, because we'll go make the donuts. Okay,

anything else going on out there? No, you know, I think I think all this stuff is settling from you know, all this, you know, all the realignments. I had something for you because the coaches, the coaches of pole came out yesterday. Oregon State landed I think seventeen ish seventeen. So that's one of your teams that you gotta find the way they needed Well, we've said they need to beat either Washington State or Oregon State

this year. But these guys are nugging they're not. I think they're not gonna be Can you say I think they're not gonna be as good as everybody thinks they are, because we've seen Arizona where everybody thought they're gonna be really good and then they weren't. You know, a program like Arizona, which I would compare Oregon State Washington STA. You know, you get all I'm not gonna say you get all full of yourselves, but you know, you

have a great year and they think you're gonna have another great year. You lose guys, things change, You don't have the you know you're you're not a usc that just calls up the next guy and he's just as good as the one that left. You know you're not that and so well, you'll be interesting to see whether Oregon State really does live up to all the hype they're getting. If I had to bet Oregon States over under, which I believe is eight and a half, which is a lot, I would probably

take the under. Yeah, and I think there's some bias by you and then he it's Oregon State. You know what I'm saying. They don't they don't use, they don't they don't move the needle for me. Did you did you see Washington the Washington Commanders and Ron Roberta talking about Eric b anim

Yea and that some of the players are concerned about his his intensity. Yeah, it's too much that it's just like a bunch of you know what, like what if they want the culture to change, like you know, Eric, the enemy's coming, he's come, I'm winning championship culture, So for them to just complain about how he you know, talks to players and how he coaches basically, it's just you know, so it's so weird to me because, like you just said, if they want to change their culture,

it's rush from that, you know, the top. Right, So if ronnerver has been there how many years and they've been losing consistently, right, Yeah, he's I think he's only been here itself has been just now they have you know, a new OC Eric Manny, who's who knows how to win. But it takes and the players are just you know, I'm happy about what. Here's the enemy talking. I'm always going to be loud, I'm always going to be vocal. I'm always going to demand from my leaders,

he said. And then if I ain't doing my job, my ass gets fired. Yeah, it's my job and responsibly to make sure I'm getting our guys to do what I'm asking them to do, because he should, like that's what he's supposed to be doing. That's why he's there. They're concerned. They don't yell about my players. Yeah, don't yell at my sons. Yeah, I don't know, man, if if if you're going soft like that, I don't know, man. I mean, yeah,

there are limitations stuff. But as you said, whatever he was doing in Kansas City was working well, and they said he was the next guy in line for a job right now and he still hasn't been able to get that. But so okay, you want to take off, let's take off. Get a held of Bruce. We got about a minute here anyway. Yeah, I was gonna I was gonna go big game. Bloomer had the twenty five scariest football stadiums to play in at night. Oh give me, what's

number one USC at night? No, they're I don't think they're talking about outside the stadium. And it's not the number one that is that is the true true thing about outside the stadium. I'm not gonna yeah, no, but we're talking inside the stadium. Second, Oh, I don't know who's won Penn State. I've never been there. Okay, white out at night. I was thinking State Kevin probably look blue. I'm so sure about the Iowa's third, text and m fourth, Auburn fifth are scary, all right?

Oregon, Nah, number six, they're softies. There's a bunch of wheenies over there. Who else is in there? South Carolina, Tennessee, Clemson, Clemson, I think would be which should be top five? Right? UTA's one you tells got a great crowd. Not big because they're like in the forties. Yeah, but man, someone someone pushed the post to the attendance of all the big twelve schools, there was almost like third. Yeah, an average capacital capacity capacity, Yes, yeah, I think the

biggest was sixty seven. Well they're not big cities, any of them, Steve. Yeah, you know, I mean, Baylor's got that new relatively needs state, but it's a big city. Yes, all right, Now let's take our break. We're gonna come back. We'll have Bruce Pasco getting

here on Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's jakensas gotta got James held us today. Now we have Bruce Pasco of the Arizona day Star that you're getting some risk before you head out. No, you know how it is, anytime you take a trip is always like crazy busy, and there's no doubt about that. But you know, I mean, I think there's some adrenaline going on here for everybody. So have you ever been to the

Middle East or to Israel specifically? No, I mean that's why, you know, I'm lucky to go. I always lucky to travel with this team as much as I do. But also, you know, this obviously is is different, and you know it gives everybody a chance to, you know, to kind of absorb some of the culture and tradition and history. I mean, you know, you guys saw yesterday taught me like super fired up about this. I'm not sure the players already going into this, but he's

gonna. I'm sure some of that enthusiasm's gonna rub off on him, and I think even the staffers. I asked a couple of staffers of this, there are you guys gotta jump on the dead seat, and they looked at me like, of course we are. You know, like everybody wants to experience it, so you know it should be a lot of fun. Question

are you going to do that? I don't know. Honestly, I don't even know if I'm going, because that's like the one weird little thing about how this trip will work, whether you know where they're gonna go, I mean, and you know, whether they're gonna have room or if I'm gonna rent a car and trying to meet him at a beach somewhere. I have

no idea, and we're just got to play that by year. But but certainly, yeah, I mean, once again, I don't know if I'll ever be Hopefully I'll come back some day, you know, just as a tourist to look around, but you know, you never know. So if I have a chance and I've done my you know, enough reporting or whatever, or maybe jumping into part of the reporting, I have no idea. I just have to wing up. I guess that's kind of what we were

talking about earlier. You don't have an itinerary right with them, and you're not really part of their party. So are you gonna kind of just have to kind of just wing it and and show up where they're at or how is this going to work? Yeah? Yeah, well they've they've sorted you

know. Yeah. I think most of the places they're going are you know, in cities and things where I can just kind of show up, take the taxi there or bus and you know, and in the UAE, I'll probably rent a car are so I can kind of join up, and then there may be a couple of cases if they have a second bus, you know, maybe we might get on that. It's hard to say because they don't even know. And so so I've literally lined up some rental cars and

for some reason there's no room. I'm getting a car and I'll follow them unless they can't, you unless it's not possible. But I really have no idea how that's going to go. But I do know there's enough. But basically I'm trying to do. But I'm trying to do. And Tommy Lloyd, uh, you know, you know, basically seemed okay with me showing up for at least one thing every day, especially when they're not playing, you know, like one day if they're going to see a couple of things.

You know, I'm sure the one might have some private team functions that there are some others where they're going to be touring things or having you know, they're doing some of the Jewish cultural things and things like that where you know, maybe I can stand on the back and kind of describe what's happening there or whatever. So you know, I'm pretty confident of if you get at least something every day to kind of give a picture of what these guys

are going through. And you know, the more the better. But but I also don't want to step in anybody's way or be annoying or you know, and take anything away from this trip, and you know, so it'll be different. Whereas you know, during the season, pretty much I go, I traveled separately, I show up for the games. I talked to him a little before, maybe a little after, and and but it's you know, kind of a parallel track, and this will be a little bit

different. So when you when you and UH and your powers that be we're talking about this trip, did you pitch this to them or did you out all kinds of say hey, we should talk about this and then decided to go. And if you did pitch it, what, you know, what was your idea of what you would get from this from an editorial standpoint?

Well, honestly, the first thing I did was well, one of the first things I did, besides looking into the rough cost was was asked Lloyd when we were up at the Section seven recruiting the gun in Phoenix, and I just kind of bounced it off, and I said, Hey, if I go, what are you guys doing? And you know, if I show up at some of the stuff that you know, are you gonna lock? You know? Is that okay? Are're gonna, you know, lock

me out. I mean, frankly, that happened twenty seventeen, Arizona went to Spain and I was told, you're just gonna be able to cover the games. And that's why we didn't go to that trip because it was a different situation. And you know, as it turned out, they had a terrorist attack and they left that that trip early anyway, so it's just kind

of a weird deal. But this time, you know there and you know, most most exhibition trips, the other pieces of most exhibition trips are really about the ten practices you get at home, and then when you go, it's like, you know, you play some local collection all stars and you know, maybe maybe do some touring or whatever and kind of team bonding.

There's not really that much to cover. This sounds a little different that they're going to do some pretty substantial touring and you know, lectures, dinners, etc. And they're taking a class as part of this, and then the

games. You know, that's still up in the air. But they may actually play a national team or two in the in Abu Dhabi, which you know would be a little step up from from playing you know, just some random guys that are in town, because it's always a problem on these trips where you you go overseas and there's no proteins that they're all on breaks, so you just get kind of a collection of who's ever in talent or whatever and and those guys having cracks just together at all. So it tends to

be very uncompetitive. A lot of exhibition games that that college teams play, so it does become more about the practice. But this could be different, both because they're doing the cultural stuff and also because they might have a decent game or two out of this. Although are you team so anyway answer questions, ja I basically did find out about that and then pitched to do our editors that there would be a lot of stuff to cover. You know.

Basically the expense of the cost actually wasn't that bad. It was basically the same ascending me for two rounds of the ant Sevili Tournament, and uh, you know, we get a lot out of it, hopefully, and you know, and we believe that, you know, we want to go everywhere with this team. We believe you know, whether it's hands Deevil Tournament, regular season exhibition, there's always interest in it. And you know, so

we want to be there. And you know, fortunately we had the resources to do this, and you know, we we hope, you know, we hope there's interest in it. Then we're you know, you know, certainly I am and and uh and then you know they decided, you know, they decided to go for it wasn't actually it wasn't actually a concern.

It's about that as just as much as what's going on in Israel and is it you know, how is that situation there and all that kind of stuff, but you know, knocking what it seems to be about about of you know, decent situations you cannounce for are you going by yourself? You a

photographer going No, we don't. It's just me, I mean, you know, unfortunately, so you know, I'll have some limited uh you know photos of my iPhone I will be not so great probably, but and and the UVA is sending the staff photographer Mike Christie Hughes to work for us, extremely talented and he will have some good stuff that they will have and uh, you know we I don't know whether we'll use any heads or how that's going to work, but there will be stuff out there, you know,

and you know, it's you know most for the most part, I will be trying to sort of illustrate things, you know, in writing and with occasional videos and stuff like that. That's the way we're looking at it.

So we had a caller a little bit ago actually call it and did say that, you know, if you can't do it while it's going on, that after the fact, you know, a blog, uh, you know, to kind of describe some of the behind the scenes stuff that maybe you can't report on while it's going on would be it would be a very cool thing for for fans to read about your kind of everything that they experience. How much are they going to let you cover and talk about when you're there.

I saw Tommy poking at you yesterday at the press conference. Not sure how much of that was you know it was real and how much of that was you know, are you are there going to be some limitations as to what you get to talk? Well, no, it's funny, Jay, I mean, like he literally his biggest concern. I thought he'd be concerned

about me stepping over toes and disrupting team bonding or whatever. You know, maybe you want to you know, have a private deal, and no, his his biggest concern is that I was going to write about the fact that, you know, maybe he started a guy that he'd never going to start, and then I would read too much into what's going on as far as what that might translate into the season, like how is it going to distribute

minutes who's starting with the rotation gonna look like? But I told him, you know, if I'm there, it actually works out better for that because he'll be able to give me context and the players and I will see more than hopefully more than you can see I'm streaming, whereas if I'm just hearing too so I'm watching the stream, which is what I did when they went to Spain in twenty seventeen. I'm like, oh, a little, they played so and so twenty five minutes. They must really thinking highly of him.

And then I flogged that, you know, I had no idea, and so I think, you know, so, I don't think there's there's too much worry of that. I think the only thing. The only thing is I think in Israel, maybe for security reasons, is kind of I don't think they're publicizing much about their actually tender where they're going to be. I think most people will see them talking about where they were after the factors, and that's true. I think with you know, I think with me

as well. But with the time change, it's going to be you know, all that stuff that's going to be happening in the wee hours over here in two times. So you know, it should work out. It's fun. It should be fun. I mean, you've taken enough, You're you're eclectic, you've traveled the world. I know that, so it should be fun for you. Another bucket list. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean I'll be working all the time, but just to be there will

be something else. And I'm going to try and take one day at the end and and uh and go to du guy just because I figure when the heck am I ever going to go to the book you buying? And you know, so just just just you know, some things like that, and it's yeah, I mean, you know, Stephen, you I know, you've you you've you've done a lot with the team, and you did Olympics in Australia. I remember, I mean that's the one. You know.

One of the really cool things about this business, you know, is it that we do occasionally get to see places and do things that we wouldn't otherwise, you know. And you know, I do a lot of traveling on my own time just because I love traveling. But I don't know, honestly if I'd ever go to these places that you know, or or anytime soon. So really that's a really cool things. It's funny because you know, I traveled together for about ten years cover with the team and and I'm sure

you missed me because he imitates me. You were always playing poker or something, and you know, I'd be like, well, let's you know, love this or whatever. You know, you were always late coming off the deadline, but he was always right after that, right, and that too, right, Well, not too. I tend to actually go out by myself a lot of times because I am working later my deadlines or whatever, and you know, and then everyone's doing their own teams by the time I

finished. And that's so I kind of get used to that. So he did actually come up with he did a good invitation of me. You know, after i'd follow file story, what would I say after a story? Oh, I don't think that's suitable for me. You would always say the same two words, and one of them is not suitable every time. I so, okay, so something something me is what you Okay, I got it, I got it now, I got it. So so okay, so give us a schedule for you then you know you're gonna write after you

know, a day or a game or whatever. When are we going to see it here? What time will we see it? Uh? You know, I'm assuming sometime we're gonna get up and there's gonna be something waiting for us to read. Right, Well, I hope. So, I mean that's where we're hoping to bring bring and I think, I mean, I don't know exactly. It's going to probably be evolving. I was talking tonight and they're bread about this today for quite a while, and you know we

you know, because of the time change. That's that's another reason. That's another thing I'm pitched him. I say, hey, if we go on everything, that's gonna be in about two o'clock or so. Because of it, you know, it will be midnight over there. So I'm envisioning that, you know, I'll probably be reporting a lot all that, except that the three night games, you know, three games most Elvy reporting during the

day and falling around or whatever. And then and then sometime in the evening, working through the evening and then which will be morning over here, and then getting my stuff in hopefully late morning and mid day and so and then we'll have that we may split some of that up online during the day a couple of different you know times, maybe something at noon and maybe something at

five. And then of course all of it will be in print and online the next day as well, so you know, and then then when it comes to games, of course, just like the regular season, we'll do stuff, you know, immediately you know, uh, you know, closet stuff after the game, right when it ends, and then maybe after I talk to some people and then you know, rewrite for the next day and

hopefully blush it out a little bit too. So I envisioned to answer question basically, you know, hopefully it should be like, you know, a twelve hour kind of span every day when when hopefully we'll be posting stuff. And that goes for photos into days as well. So I wanted to squeeze in this question to Tommy yesterday and didn't get a chance. What do you expect to find out about this team at the you know, at the end of the day, at the end of this trip. What do you hope

that you know then that therefore that we know about this team. Well, I mean, you know, there's there's two pieces to it. I don't think we can all read. Like like said, Tommy's concerned. Tommy, Let's concerned about not reading too much. Indo, I think he probably has a point there. I don't think if you know, if caleblod Love takes half of their shots, that's necessarily a reason to wonder about how the distribution

is going to because it could be totally different. They're going to go through a whole preseason in October where things are going to be uh, you know, ironed out and some exhibition games there and this and that. You know, But I think mostly just I think maybe in general, you know, to see the new guys and where they're gonna potentially kind of and then I think for my purpose, you know, what I want to do is get

to know guys a little better. And you know, because as I think we were talking yesterday, just sometimes you feel like at Arizona because they can't they have to keep guys from getting overwhelmed from us, and that's understandable. You don't have that much contact with and then sometimes it takes a couple of years to get to get to know guy like you know, like more Ballo

is it, you know? Or Tella Larson like now we feel like we know them, but they've been here a couple of years, and so maybe that accelerates at least, you know, I'm hoping, you know, maybe I can actually have a uh, you know, a conversation with the guy just just you know, kind of shooting the bowl or whatever, and and you know, getting to know them a little bit about what they you know, what they're what they're like, and then that that that tends to make

it easier when you do get two interviews during the season and you really need something, you're on deadline. Maybe they maybe they had a tough game or whatever. They're real emotional if they had a great game, they're really emotional that way, and then they know you, Okay, you know that's Bruce. You know, I know I can trust him or whatever, and makes the interviewing, uh, usually a lot easier when you have a little bit

of a relationship with these these guys. So selfishly, I guess I'm looking for that, but also to see what the team is like on the court. And then you know, I think secondarily it'd be interesting to see, honestly, who picks up on all this cultural stuff, you know, Like I mean, we saw yesterday Tommy Lloyd is completely fired about this. He's out of his mind excited about it. You can't wait to Bob and the Dead Sea can't wait to to you know, see some of these places.

He was saying, you know, he's telling us about this maybe of David, and he says, you know, David's versus Goliath. Is that David, you know, like I mean, he loves this stuff. And it'll be interesting to see how many of the guys kind of if that rubs off on these guys, and who in particular, you know, takes a look into it. Because they're basketball guys, they have to be very focused since as you guys know, you know a lot of college basketball players are.

You know, they're pretty focused on playing basketball and maybe you know, maybe video games and a couple of things here there, And we'll see if it's open drives us, you know a little bit. Well, good to hear about this. I'll be safe. I also think that you said you might be available to us. It's a ten hour difference. They're ahead of us, so we might get you at some point along the way one of these days, right in the next coming a couple of weeks. Yeah, yeah,

that would be great. I envisioned mostly the evening being just working and you know, and doing stuff, and if you guys are on, it'll be pretty early in the morning. But I don't anticipate ably sleeping a whole lot either, So let's let's see if we can do it. Okay, great, Thanks a bunch of safe travel, buddy, Thanks appreciated. Take care. Jakin's got a guy Jason here for another twelve thirteen minutes. If you guys want to call in, please do five two zero four one six seventy four forty. We'd like to hear from you. I want to interview you about about some of your you know, particular, this trip you going to Australia one a lot of fun and then the other one was Greece. First of all, getting to Australia. Holy hell, how long did that day?

It took fourteen some hours? Fourteen some hours. The good thing is I was not alone when I was with a bunch of you say, today reporters. So some friends, colleagues got there ten days in and this eighteen hour days, right, they're eighteen hour days, and you're thinking, God, what am I doing? You're taking busses two events and I'm thinking ten days,

I'm never ever gonna do this again, Little Sleep. You're in a foign land and great people obviously, but you're you're exhausted, You're you're tired, you're busy, all this stuff, and you say, I'll never do it again. And then when it's over, Jay, I kind of get everything else. You think, God, I hope they invite me back. Yeah. Yeah, it's just Climber's remorse. Halfway up, he says, I am doing What am I doing here? You get there and you say,

God, was that exciting? And it was. It's just it's just a month of being away from your family and all that stuff, and you come back and now, in that situation, did you get to go out and see some stuff? Oh? Yeah, yeah, there's and there's stuff because they have the media headquarters. And then at the end of the day, the media ends up at the hotel or whatever, and it's just a just a bunch of drinking and stories of the day, and then you do it again, do it again this day. It's a lot of fun on.

Australia is a great place. Greece was a fantastic place. Grease reminded me a lot of Tucson, and it was hot. Kendrea played, Kendrea won his gold medal day. It was fantastic story. So a lot of fun stuff. Let me let me tell you this quick story about there so and I know that Greg would would verify this. So we we go to Stanford, right, We go to Stanford and we stayed at the Sheraton. You stayed at the Sheraton right there on Paulo Alto and we all check in.

He checks in the way before, he's already there and he's having trouble with the hotel. So you know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna call So he calls in, calls in to Sherton. Yeah, could you connect me to John Wilner's room. This is John Wilner asking for John Wilder. Oh, I'm sorry, but he hasn't checked in. What do you mean to tell me? I'm John Wilner. I checked in, and I know I'm there because John doesn't sound like anything would do because he's he wanted to

say, these guys, I'm getting confident. I want to call it. I want to check in. I want to call it. And I said, I'm sorry, John's not here right now. John's not in. What do you mean I'm checked in? It out? Funny, Oh my god, those two guys. Well I got to travel with those two guys for a little while, which which is fun my kind of one of my favorite road trip stories was this is now, this is the first year I'm covering I'm covering basketball. So my one of my first travels, and so we

go to play Georgia, as one goes to play Georgetown. So we go to DC and they went a day early, so the game was on Saturday. They went a day early so that on Friday they could go to They got invited to over the White House through the Congressional delegation. So Steve Condon, who was the trainer, You remember Steve. He was the guy who would do the travel plans and the way they did it back in the day.

They didn't do it now. They'd make all their travel plants and then they just send them to us, and then I just turned that over to our travel agent. I'd get the same flight, at the same hotel, the whole bit. So basically we traveled together. So we get to DC, you know, we landed at the Reagan Airport. We get and we're there. We go to this Marriott. Now, there were two Marriotts that had kind of had the same name. One was the twin Bridge Marriott,

one was the key Bridge Marriott, and I remember which was which. But we go to one and it's one of those. It's it's one of those basically a motel that okay, okay, I'll hold that higher on the air and I on the mall. How's it on today? What's our ban? I'm just kind of happy that all this is over. We're all happy it's over, you know. I mean, it's just that it's unfortunately, it's

really no choice, just consumed. The town has consumed everything, taking away from what football is doing right now, you know which, yeah, you know, to me, it's more of a major thing right now. We still have to remember we have a poll, another full season of PAC twelve sports, right, we do. We're doing that the deal, And that was Tommy's point yesterday. He said, we got to take care of business

this year. I'm not even thinking about it right now, and we know he's thinking about it, but he says he's not because they got they gotta do this. We'll think about it, you know when the season's over with, right right, you know, And I just think it's you know that people just you know, we all knew what was going to happen. Yeah,

this is not a surprise. And then and then it was sealed when Washington and Oregon decided to leave, right but you know, I really felt that even if Washington and Oregon didn't leave, with the amount of money involved in this Apple thing, we still would have left. Did you I asked you this. I asked you this about half our go. Did the end result in how things played out match the hype that eventually happened? You know? Are you were? You? Were you less surprised? Were you disappointed?

I wasn't surprised at all, you know, because I really felt from the beginning or USC and UCLA left last year, the conference was due Yeah, no, I think we all thought that whether the teams were great that left didn't matter. It was the names that left. Yeah. No, you're correct, You're correct. You know, I mean, neither one of those teams have been that terrific in football lately. Yeah, USC was getting better, but they weren't. They hadn't want to when they was the last

time they won the league, right, right, Bryan? How many games are gonna win? Uh? Six overall total or regular season? All right? Yeah, okay, we're good with that. All right, man, Okay, Bran, thanks so much. Cool talk you later. All right.

So to finish the story, so there was these two Marriots. So we go to this Marriott and we get there and it's one of those one of those hotels where you go into your room from the outside balcony, and so, you know, the team got all checked in, right, and then I, you know, I'm obviously in the line after them, so I check it. I don't even get to my room. I get to my room and opened the door and the phone is ringing and it's Tom Duddleston, who said, I guess I hope I can tell this story now.

He said, don't unpack your bags because there's no way Bobby Olson has stayed here and Condon had booked the wrong. He got mixed up in terms of which. And so we went to the other bridge, Marriott, and it was this high rise on the Potomac across the bridge from the Lincoln Memorial. You can see it. Total sense, but just the way he said, he said, Bobby's not staying here. I go into my room and like

the toilet ball is cracked. Well, come on along those lines. We both covered Coach Cheese right, Coach Chiefe, and we stayed in the and the other ones that were not as the scary one, the scary place, Oh man, man, those are not fun. I did one camp Coach Cheese and I like you, you know, the part of my parking spot was up against the prison wall. It was a prison right next to the

motel stace. I mean literally rock and hit a parking lot and then there's a wall and that's the prison wall with with the barbed wire on top. I mean you can lean against the against the prison wall. And I remember going to but it was still something you love to do. Yeah, I mean to this day, I cherished that the fund that we had a camp coaches because after we all file our stories, there was a bar that we go shoot pool and bs so you know bs, and then do it again

the next day, right right. I swear Bud Henry had but Butch Henry had the uh, the numbers to the jukebox for all the Way and Jenny and music and you know the country music songs. He just could blame them over and over and over. The eventually they did away with it. Yeah, it was down to Coaches College Douglas. That's why they called it Camp Coach Cheese. Muggy. It was just a getaway, but it was muggy. Mike Stups was the one who stopped going there. But I even think

they they went there once, right, a couple of times. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they took army people. Remember they had the stuff. Yea. Another caller, Hi, you're on there and I on the ball. Hey, I just wanted to tell me about the Camp Coach Cheese. So my family from Douglas, Arizona, and I remember as a kid, Adam McDonald's right there adjacent. I think it was even closer than the Motel six for the prison. So you get out the outside of the playground in

the end of seeing all these prosenters on the balcony. I guess it was a dui prison, so it was less you know of a scary area. Yeah, yeah, little story, Yeah, no it was you Did you ever get a chance to go down there watching practice or anything like that? Yeah? Yeah, very cool. I mean it was great, it was, And it was a great venue you know there, you know, all the all the you know, with a number of fields, and they would stay in the dorms there, and you know, the motel wasn't really that

far from the from the campus. No, she had to make sure, okay, with the name of the bar that we're talking about, was there a plate? Was it Dawsons? Was that the name of the bar downtown? Downtown? Yeah, at the Gatson Hotel that yeah, okay, yeah, yeah guess And I stayed there before. Oh man, that's scared of crast. I think the elevators didn't even work. Yeah, but oh great, we had a great time. I think I think we speak fondly of

the place. So hey, thanks for coling. We appreciate it. So for my first time, I CoA Chiefs and this is true story me being twenty three, twenty four years old, so we'd go and have our trades, you know, the little lunch trades with the compartments. So we'd go and you know, eat and blah blah blah, and then we'd have a chance that dicto with interview blah blah blah. So we ate and this must have been the first day. So we finish and I'm kind of looking around.

I'm thinking seeing trays around, I'm thinking, okay, so I get up and I leave my trader. Steve, is your mom here with you? This is no no, coach, that means you put your tray away like everybody. Okay, coach, I'm sorry, I'm sorry because you remember those days, right, Oh yeah, it was like you're a lunch room. Yeah yeah, yeah, it was. It was the lunch room. And that was a time that you get to sit on with the coaches and

running and just talk about stuff and just just it was great. I mean, the incredible access to that and uh, you know, there's there's a picture somewhere that remember one of the photographers, I probably a star photographer where for some reason the year that I went, guys didn't the reporters didn't take chairs. It would stand the whole time well, I went to Kamart.

I got myself to have a chair and I took I got myself just one of those cheap launch chairs and I sat down and so there's somebody took a picture and it's all the all the reporters and standing except for me and I've got my chair. It's like it was like the camps now either you just want to stand for two and a half hours, but you want to sit

down and standing man, And you needed a fly repellent. You need and camar you hat get bug repellent and a fly swatter and you could you know, you could make it for a week, for a week, Yeah, for a week, and it would rain, it would rain hard, and then the sun would come out and sauna. Did you ever have you ever said the guests no you said it was said it was hot, No it is, it's it's it was the most scary place I've ever stated in scary just spooky. Was the spooky spooky not so much. But it was just

not not a nice place. I don't want to offend anybody. We had a minute, but it was just not it was the worst place I ever were there. I was just there for it was for the bike rid tour because we had to write down the yeah, and it was it was not fun. It was just strange. It was not the most tell six in Washington, DC. Oh man, this place, I tell you, man, and and and on top of everything else, that was at the end of the runway, at the end of the runway of the airport. They

were not staying. Guys, we're not staying. That's funny because Bobby would not. We did not, and we weren't there an hour and we were gone and everybody checked out and we went to the other Mariotte. Yeah, all right, we're out here. Appreciate body being here. Dan Walking from USA today we'll come in and talk about the national uh national stuff on the realignment and be very vocal on that. So we'll get with Dan Walking from your saying cool. So be back tomorrow
