This is I on the Ball with Steve and Jazis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Howard by Nova Insurance Services. Make sure your most christ possessions kat z R two sad and iHeart radio station yet but good enoughternoon, everybody, Welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jakin Zoss got our guy Noah and today for Tuesday, And I have one thing to say to you, Jay. You better be good because
you're paying for this show. Why do you say that those our last caller from yesterday? Oh? Yeah, I know. I guess I gave out a little secret, right people can we I appreciate that call our collins and we think we believe you guys more because no and that we're good, yeah, you know, and that you guys are good because you guys are. Your heart's in it, which it is, which it is, well, sometimes our brain is not, but our heart is our memory. But but
I've said this a number of times and you've agreed. We've talked to people. This is kind of we're shooting the bull at a bar. What's coming up, right or what's not coming? Well? We don't go to bars anymore, Steve. So, I think we're more like we're like a beyond bread or something like that. But we're an olive garden. But you know, hanging out. We're sure it'll stay late at docket football, right,
you know me? You know, yeah, you might say maybe like a Bob Dob or a trident or something, hanging out, you know, talking stuff. You know, guys listening to the show. You know, I go to my breakfast club every Tuesday and somebody has a comment about something that we've talked about during the week, and uh, and it's very cool to have that kind of that kind of listenership. But then also just that people understand all we're trying to do is have some conversation. Sure, get some
informission out there. If we have it a good show today. I think it's gonna be a good show today. We're gonna have a kind of looking at a high school stuff that we're gonna start with with mister Nugent, Nugent's former protege of Dick Tomy, the day Guy. He was at Sianega High School for a number of years. Not Mike Mountain High School got their pro program started over there. Yeah, well he was at CEO and then Santego and then he's been around. He's been around and had a lot of great
success. Another good year for him, he's expected, so that'll be fun. And then one of the guys where he was a ga at u A. I'm pretty sure this is true. Uh it was. It was John Fina when he was when when when new was a g a at a long time ago. Yeah, yeah, he's kind of fifty something, so so we're gonna have John Fina and I wanted to have him on. Uh. We saw him this weekend at the South Point game, just talking about real
quick what he sees because they're big dudes, they're big dudes. And was he one of those big dudes because you were impressed with uh with not Will, with Will height and rushing both of those guys. You know, we saw them big dudes. You seeing him in person was different. I mean just big big guys that Yeah, they did. They stood out right, they stood out among you know on the said okay, I know which too, I'm looking at and you know why they're being recruited right because they just
got the body. You know, you can't again you can't teach having that body, having that frame that they that both of them have. And again I've said aliveah, Russians arms are some of the longest arms I've ever seen. I mean, he is a big, tall guy, yet he's got i mean, he's got a he's got a wingspan that's crazy. And for somebody you know coming up, you know, Russing on the end, that's what they're looking for. Gotta give credit to Carter Garrett two because there are
skinny dudes coming in. Yeah, they're not skinny dudes anymore. Nah, they're not. They're both really good size. I mean, you know, on the very first play of the game, will Hike you know, sack the quarterback. You know, saw that on Twitter and stuff. So these guys look, you know, like they might be the real deal. I mean, they won forty two forty two fourteen right against Brana, who, by all accounts is a really good team, and they just kind of handled
him. Yeah, okay, So we talked to him about a number of different things. Now that we start to seize for you of a what he went through early in the season as they started to prepare for a season. Right, it should be fun he's I always tease him because he's always the smartest dude in the room. Yeah. So uh But looking at Mica mount S, they won their first game thirty four twenty eight. They school cap
posting, butte wherever that might be. And then they've got Mesquite this week and then they go into the Tucson schedule with uh Sabino Sunny and Sunnyside of the next two weeks. Right, I guess Sabino was was pretty impressive. Beat my Sorrel Cougars on Friday night. Okay, the smaller school that didn't used to happen, but it does now. Kind of a smaller school, smaller school, Okay, cool, So whatever you want to do, we could get take calls five to zero, four, one, six, seventy
four, forty if you'd like to give us a quick call. We have our boy Noah here, a man in the station. Yeah, it's it's a cutdown day in the nfls. We're getting some names in of people who are getting cut some former Arizona guys, a lot of a lot of moves being made, aid, a lot of things going on. So well,
we'll talk about some of those dream breaking news. But one of the interesting things that you're just starting to hear a buzz about this, Steve, and it's with your favorite about your favorite guy, Kyler Murray, who apparently he got put on the unable to perform lists, so he's out for the first four games. The Cardinals cut the guy who's been the backup all along, Colt McCoy. They traded for, traded for a guy, you know last
week. They've got two guys that basically haven't played, and so a lot of the conversation, you know, he can't get past things past everybody are that the Cardinals are already tanking to go get Caleb Williams, which means Kyler Murray's days would be numbered after giving him a huge contract he's got, He's got three years of a guaranteed contract ahead of him. He was a smart dude just for that reason, because he pressured him into getting him signed.
And I don't get this because I know they needed a quarterback at the time, and that was last year, right was it? The last year? A few months that they needed and they didn't know what to do. And he's still the same dude. He's the same guy. He's the same guy. He's not. I'm here sitting in tuc soun talking about this. It's not a dude, that's any not. That's kind of an NFL worthy of
a Super Bowl. Yeah, the Bucks, the odds makers are saying, are picking the Cardinals the worst record in the league four, which would get them the first pick in the draft. And Caleb Williams is clearly the first pick in the draft. It's back to that thing because they remember they drafted Josh Rosen with their first number one pick, had him for a year, cut him loose and got and got Kyler Murray, and I got Kyler Murray, signed him to a huge contract. And now they're saying, well,
we might they might want to go get Caleb Williams. Yeah, talks tells you how good you have to be to play in the NFL. We get Jody in here, Jody Ailer, he's always got a good perspective on on that, because well, you remember last year, I think I gave him grief because he talked about them beating Kansas City because he didn't think Kansas City was gonna care about the game. And then McManaman, who thought they were gonna be pretty good. Yeah, not so much. Not much, not
so much. That's it's it's it's amazing though, that how quickly something can turn because he was the guy, right, he's the guy. We got to give him a big contract. He's our quarterback of the future, and a year later maybe not so much. Well, if he doesn't do it in the NFL, you could always do it in baseball because he's one of those. But now, you know, I mean they're going into the season. They're gonna play the first four games with two guys at quarterback that yeah,
they don't have they've not played. You know, what are you gonna do with these guys? And so you are you gonna be owing four? They go, They open with the Commanders, but it's at the Commanders. You know, Ron River's trying to turn things around over there. You would expect the Cardinals to be owing four by the time Kyler Murray gets back. If throwing four, that's it. Yeah. You know who comes back from owen four and has a decent season, you know it gets in the playoffs
or any of that. Do you imagine how money much money you have in the bank or wherever you have that money where you could pay a dude like this a lot of money and not really to say, Okay, my bad, I messed up. You wonder if it's like financing a car or something, you know, do they do they finance that their players are How does that work still be paid? That cars is getting old? That car is
really old. It's kind of an old jeloppy. But you know, interesting to see what they're gonna you know, what they're gonna do with with Kyler Murray and again already missing in the first four games. How do you come out of that? And if you start off on four, first, you got to recover from that. And then how long does it take to recover from that? How long does it take before Kyler Murray is good enough to make a difference in a game? You know, I don't know, I
don't know. I mean, aren't the Cardinals already in a position where they're gonna have to think about about tanking the season before the season is even It's we're not even to the weekend before the season yet in the NFL, right, Well, I get it, I get it. Okay, So we'll talk about about that as well, and then we'll talk to you to Nugent looking forward to that and talk to him in a while and then pin in the second hour. Yep, ye, okay, what else is going on?
You know, just getting ready for football. It's all the talk. You know, a lot of people, it's you can tell. I mean, we went through a period of time where if if people were talking about the football season, they were talking about how either they were dreading it or mentioning that they didn't care about it. The people that I run into, I got run into a lot of people were just saying, you know, they're really interested to see what's gonna happen, hoping for the best, excited.
I mean, if they get forty five, forty six thousand for an NAU game, would have to look back and see when was the last time NAU came here and there was that much of a crowd for them. Yeah, of course that's tickets sold. We'll see what people show up. Yeah, it's gonna be nice weather. Apparently. All I know is, you know, my sister coming down from Phoenix to go to the game. I had to get to two tickets today, you know, and she comes down to a game or two a year, but it's usually like, you know,
they're really good games, and she wanted to come down here. Her and her husband wanted to come get down here and you know, catch the first game because you know, they're excited about it. Yeah, okay, you didn't you didn't hit up anybody for tickets, No, you know, we wanted. I'm a little concerned that, you know, are the seats around us are actually taken. I've gone on the website and they are. You know. We we've we've been kind of lonely up there the last the
last few years. We're section twenty three, we're in row fifty six. We're right on the aisle at twenty three and twenty four, and it's been lonely, you know. There. We've been able to spread out and you know stuff, and if somebody wanted to go to the game, they just get tickets and then just come and say with us. And I don't know
that we're gonna be able to do that that much. We'll be looking at when on the website today to look for tickets for the game, and the seats all around us are taken, you know, except there were two left and we nab those. That's a good problem to have, at least for you. Yeah, and so we'll see you should be fun though to kick off of the season. But a big games. There's one Thursday Utah to
Florida Florida games. It's a big game in your team. Oh God, looked, Yeah, let me I got I've got it up right now. Yeah, well you're Tom, You're Tom Florida. I think it's gonna be an important game because we got to see what Nebraska's got, right it's Nebraska at Minnesota. Minnesota's a seven point favorite. Was game. No, that's the big game of the weekend. Is that LSU Florida State, which is on Sunday, So it's kind of a standalone game. It's a it's a
in Orlando wedge. There's a hurricane coming in, so we'll see you know when that that hurricane hits and passes in time for for them to still be able. Doesn't give a crap. They didn't get one crap about football at all. Uh. You know Stanford is going to going to Hawaii. Let's find out a little bit about what Stanford has. The Colorado TCU game is a huge good times. That's a noon game. Ore that should be good. That's not true game. That's not true game. So no, the
big the big game of the week Florida State. Uh oh LSU. But that's but that's another game that a lot of people are gonna be paying attention to. That Boise State in Washington. So you know, she obviously wants to get off to a great start. You mask man on a roll. But they're playing Auburn this week. They were like forty point under the Well, you gotta get pay the bills, right, you gotta pay the bills.
You gotta get a paycheck. Yeah, what else? Uh, let's see West Virginia and Penn State. You know the that should be a good game. A lot of fun on that one. Boy again, Penn State a big fairy. Oh, North Carolina South Carolina. That's supposed to be a good one. That's what game day is gonna be. North Carolina South Carolina. That's a four thirty game our time on Saturday. So there's a there's there's you know, there's some good stuff this weekend. You see LA's
playing Coastal Carolina. What the hell are they doing? Playing coast Coastal Carolina is pretty good? I know that what Coastal Carolina is Like Coastal Carolina, they're from very far away. Oh, we've all gotta get us to that travel yea, oh maybe, well, but it's at UCLA, so somebody's gonna travel. Somebody's gonna travel. We'll see how good they are. I'm curious about that man and Feenix, whose son Bruno is a part of the team. We'll ask him about what's going on over there. Brune was Bruno
was interviewed on by UCLA and put it on Twitter. He sounded exactly like I even I even wrote that, and John said to me, you're not alone. People thought it was. He looks a lot bigger than dad. Ever was no question. We'll talk about that because he I'm sure he had the same frame. But he is easy, big white guy. Yeah, like a white guy. Yeah. Okay, we got a minute. We
got a minute. So you want to just go because we run out of steam here in fifteen minutes, you know you no, No, I think well, I mean, look, if we're talking about football again, uh, still up in the air. If Callen Stafford going to the ACC Everything got stopped because of that thing at the North Carolina yesterday. And now there's a meeting tomorrow of the of the Athletic director is talking about the twelfth team
football playoffs. So nothing's happened there. So the conversation on realignment still isn't over, Still going on, even though we got games coming up. Okay, you think it's gonna be the a SEC at the Big twelve. They're going to the ACC if they go anywhere. So okay, all right, let's get out of here. We're gonna we're gonna come back. We're gonna have Pat Newton head go to Michael Mountain Football. See you good, love

I heard radio whap. This is I on the Ball with Steve Ribera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty eight. Hey, welcome back to Island Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty I'm Steve River here, JACKINSAWUS now and I phone. We have patent nugit from Micael Mountain High School. How are you coaching? Hi, Steve, Thanks for having me on today. Sure of course we wanted a touch base with you as the season starts. You had a big win last week. Had that go, oh great win for
us. You know, we had to go up to post abusin about a hundred and two at kickoff, the kids were miserable, but you know, we got beat by forty by them last year. They're a heck of a program, really doing a great job. So we got a nice team this year and we were excited to get out of that. It was a drag it out at or with them. They run a little wing tea and uh, you know, we've got some offensive weapons and we were able to pull
it out at the end with a one minute left in the game. So won that game thirty four to twenty eight on the road, and great start of our season. So when when you when you compare those two, uh, you know, the two games that you know, you get beat by forty, then you come back and beat these guys at their place. What you know, what what was different? What were the major differences between you know, last year and this year in terms of your team. Yeah,
the biggest things players. We had about six starters out that game due to injuries. We had two transfer kids that were in eligible to play. So we've been a different team for the last six games. The last five games of last year, you know, we were one and four with some injuries, got a couple of our top players back, got a couple of transfers in, so we won the last five games and here we are with another wood this year. So we got an excited team. You know, we're
we're a new school. We only lost seven kids from last year team, only three starters, and we had an entire offense was returning. So we're in a good situation. We're excited about where we're going and looking for big things this year. Sorry for not knowing this, but are you in your second or third year there? This is the third year, but this is only our second year of varsity football. We played an abbreviated schedule our first year here with only six games, so in reality, he was only two
full years. That's why he asked, because you did a great job at Cdeo. You left there, you went to East to Stanegust have worked out there, did very well, and then you decided to move to Michael Outain. What are you thinking starting those programs all over again. We can put most of the plan on Neimur hass Nemur and I've been friends for days, my flowing wealth days, and uh, you know, he came over here.
We basically built the school. He was, you know, a big part of me coming over and he allowed me to you know, diagram some of the facilities and what wanted in the weight room. So it was a neat experience coming over here. But it has been challenging, and you know, bringing a brand new school leaving leaving a monster and we had at Sienego was a tough lead. You know, most of the staff and a lot of my coaches were coming over to micam out and so here we are and
trying to do things here at MICAH. What do you think was not a couple of years into it, right, what do you think is was the hardest thing about starting a new program like this, you know, at a brand new school, right. I mean you like you said, I mean you literally built this thing from the ground up. Without question. It's been
cultures. You know, you have nothing. We started that first year and basically sophomores and you know, a few juniors in the mix, and there was no leadership, no senior, no hey, we did it this way for four years. It was everything new. So and even last year with only seven seniors, it was it was just no culture, no leadership. And everything we've done from the room to the summer program to the practice, you know, none of these kids that ever learn anything. So now you
know what's going on. And we've got a tremendous staff. And I'm not sure if you know this, but we added Richards Funches to our staff at the end of the last year and Richard back with us and he's just doing tremendous things for the offensive line. And you know, we're just trying to change culture and the right direction. Wow, cows be. He must be in heaven, not having to deal with the being the head coach, but being able to coach or being allowed to coach. Richard's he has dedicated any
assistant I've ever had, that's for sure. But he doesn't like any of the extra coaching stuff. He loves being a part of it, but he knows I got to deal with all the extra b craft. You know,
get him on the phone, listen to him. Well, I've seen him in the locker room, so I can only imagine, you know, the types of things that he brings, you know, to your team, especially when you're trying to, as you said, establish the culture and you know, let these people, let the players know, you know, there's discipline involved in all these kinds of things. It's certainly a guy like him. And then you know, with your history and that's a that's it's quite quite
a locker room that you guys have. It's been experience from me, you know. And I've got Brett Darland's been with me for many years and he's our def coperinator. But you know, it's always nice to bring in an extra guy that you know you can learn from him. And this is my thirty third year, and I'm learning every day from Richard, and you know, he's a different personality than I, so it's a nice mix that we deal with. You know, he gets after the kids and I got a
fan in the book getting back to going. So it's been a great experience having him. He's having a lot of fun, I think, and after so many years of his stuff, he's really enjoying it. So now you've really aged us. You were a ga at you very under Dick told me that the student made I went. I was a little I did a little bit more work than I was a student manager that had to do all the dirty works all the time, getting equipment out and travel and so so look
out. So yeah, Lookward's gotten you. You know, it's nice. Nice Arnt. You know I've been you know, it's it's funny. My dad with a high school coach I worked for. Coach told me and I left the football field, and most people forget that I was at TEAMA for five years and you know, that was the knockdown experience over there. That was a real battle and we got back into the high school ranks. And this is the twenty six year being a head coach and thirty third is a
high school football coach, so you never know. Yeah, you've certainly seen a lot. So tell us a little bit, a little bit about your team at least what you know, what you think you know after a first game and obviously a fall camp, you know, do you have a sense of what your team is? Well? You know you got experienced players right
now? Is this before the entire offense was back? And you know our number of the player of the year offensively was our quarterback in in Thorns and Jayden's only in junior right now, and he got the player of the year last year and as a sophomore. And then we had the player of the year Cason Colburg. He only played six games for US last year. Cason's is one of the top players I've ever had. He's a beast. The other night he had a hundred and thirty eight yards rushing on eleventh carry,
sixteen tackles. He's just an animal. I rank him in my top ten without question. And guys I've coached before, so he's a physical specimen. And we just got Devin Haywood, you know whose brother played for me over at Sianega. Devon's great two way started forth Jonah Garcia. So we've got some skilled kids and right now with Richard running the offensive line, he's putting a different culture with those guys and they're they're doing a great job. So
we're excited. Our kids fly around of football and the defense side of the ball, and you know, we're ready to go for me Schee this week. So this is gonna be a weird question for you to answer, but I want you to if you can. You've been very successful all the places you've been. Cdo sanega. Like I said, now, Michael Moon, what do you think your secret sauces? I know this is talking about you, but what do you think because this doesn't happen by accident? Well,
you know, number one, I have great assistance guys. I want to put the effort in. We work really hard from the summer on so that that's the first priority is commitment and dedication the program. But you know, I think the other thing too is uh, we have developed a culture with our kids who who want to play for us. Well, kids love coming to practice, they don't miss practice, they want to be a part of our program. We we spoil them without question. They get meals and four
game the uniforms. You know, Michael Mountain right now probably the only school in the city that's got two helmets and four different uniforms. So we've tried to spoil our kids the best we can, and they enjoy our program and we get kids out that want to stay with us. And it's a four year experience and that if wins games is having a senior class and worked every day. So and I know, you know, every coach goes into the
season say we want to win a championship and those kinds of things. You're you're in a region with you know, with CDO and you know, the one top top teams in the in the state in four A. But you know what's your approach to uh, you know what your your your season long goal is. I mean, how do you look at that? Uh? And you know what's good for you guys? Well, you know the thing is, you know, and once again say our kids are all back. We didn't lose. So we've got another junior class in. So we've got
fifty nine kids in our program right now. But the big thing for us is we went we won our last five games for by over twenty points. In every game, and we actually beat CDO to win the league title by twenty last year, and you know, we know where we're at. And unfortunately, due to our injuries and the things that happened to us early year,
we were wonting four. We didn't make the playoffs. And I think every kid in the program knew that if we won the playoffs, and you know, nothing against CEO, but they got to play us in the state semifinals, and we felt we should have been there. We should have been in a state championship. But we've made mistakes early in the year. We can get in the tournament. But once we got our dudes back, we were a different football team. So those about five games were a little different
than the first five games. Yeah, tell me how was the Tucson scene for for high school football these days? And though we will talk about this point, but you out there have been pretty good too. You know, it's hard, Steve and Jay, it's Tucson football has not looked very well. You know in the state. The big powers are starting to dominate a little bit, and we haven't want to stay titling a long time down here. And you know, it's it's our lower levels. The three a's do
well. The two ways doing did with you know, Pushria, just Abino and those type of guys. Thatcher is doing a great job. But reality, it's about big boys football and we've got to do a better job. And obviously Stout Points are our mainstay, and Stout Points are always going to be powerhouse. They're they're gonna get the best kids in Tucson and they're gonna be able to compete. And unfortunately, now being in six A, they get pounded and they just don't quite have those kids. They get beat up
to ten weeks in a row, you know. So you know, Tucson is always going to be you know, the upper age and there's five to six really good teams and then the bottom bottom half is not very good. And that's why two sons not highly regarded. You know. What we what we have seen though, was you know some local kids, you know, getting out, getting you know, vision, playing some in some Division one
scholarships things like that. I mean, I mean there is some talent in the you know, in the community, right I mean, we know, you know a couple of guys over at South Point, you know, going to Arizona and there's there's been just a few of though a number of those. You think there's a that is growing a little bit, not enough,
I don't. I don't think. I don't even know if there was a d one kid last year that came out, you know, so we're setting Obviously you've got the b Johns and stuff, but they're one and every couple of years and then that's the Unfortunately, I think there's more talent, but with the Phoenix powerhouses, there's so many kids getting recruited up there. We're just not getting those kids. I mean, you can always go down the line and myself, I've had the tennis boys played for me, Dan played
for me, Jamari Joyner. So we always have our one and few in there, but we don't have enough. You know. We've got a couple of kids right now and Jimmy Lyons a defensive lignement for us that's already been offered by a issue and you know, so you're always going to have one there. But I think we need to get more kids. It's got to be four or five kids got to get out of two times for us to get the guarded better. How do you how do you think you'd do that?
What's what's the path for that? You know, it's tough. I mean, it goes all the way down to our youth football programs. We've got to continue to build those programs, continue to have better coaching, and you know, we've we've got to continue to keep kids into some Unfortunately, parents are chasing the dream, I think, and I think a lot of parents will go other districts, other cities, other states, And you know, that's one of the things. We had a young man a couple of
years ago, our first year with a freshman freshman phenom. Well dad picked him up and got him out and went to Texas. You know, we've got to continue to get kids going and keep them going and uh continue to try to play some of those big our houses in Phoenix and win games. So how did that kid do? Did you follow it? Oh? Yeah, he aids in San Antonio playing for one of the biggest programs over there. Going to be a junion this year, so I think I think he'll
be pretty special. So we're not. I'm not sure where he's at right now, but it's hard to it's hard to blame those guys, right everybody's chasing the bag and chasing the dream. But it's possible here too, though you have to convince them it's here too. Well it is, but you know, your football on ESPN on Saturdays and the five high school football game packed houses. And unfortunately for us, you go to Friday night game not
unveil theil we're going to fill. The stands are unveil. But most high schools don't do very very well on Friday nights, and they're not filling stands and they're not getting the people out. The numbers are decreasing. This is my lowest freshman football team. We only have thirty six kids. That's the lowest number I've ever had in my career. So footballs, you know, not getting participation. The bands aren't as big as they used to be,
so there's a lot going on in life. I think it's keeping kids away from certain things. Yeah no, I hear I hear well. I I mean we were there, we were at sel pointing. Their band walked on the field and I was kind of like, is that all of them? So yeah, exactly, you know, and for a guy that's in you know, I'm an old timer and it's a long time I see. I was here in the nineties, and I remember the great coaches in the nineties
and those guys are gone. I mean when I was a young assistant coaches, there was a legendary coach in every high school and no offense to my my peers. Right now, it's not a lot of name guys coaching right now. And it's hard, hard to keep coaches in the business for multiple reasons. And you know that's that's been the downer and Tucson I think, yeah, well you keep doing it though, so you know your name applying to you, I don't know. I think I'll be an intern somewhere else,
maybe maybe for you guys or something. Yeah, we need one. If you're free on Wednesdays, we can use you talk sports. Hey, thanks so much. Pat, appreciate you. I appreciate it. Guys. Thanks for having us and then keeping local sports going. Best elected season. Thanks Pat, we will, we will, thank you for luck to have a great year. Thank you. Patt Nu one of the good guys, very good coaches, a guy who's been here for so long. I've seen

We'll come back to one on the Ball, Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jakes, the guy knowing with us. What's your name? Got thirteen minutes? You guys want to give us a quick call to four one six seventy four forty, we'd appreciate it. So, how much did you pay for my digital asset? I have you? I have you eleven in
person. I don't even want that, and to is the word asset with me at all? It's probably not like delete a couple exactly exactly. I don't know. Do you think this is a dumb question? Jay? I'm not gonna ask you if you would do it, because you probably wouldn't. I know I wouldn't. But are we living in an age where I guess it's just forever boosters just kind of not so much want to be part of
it. But they have this I don't even know how to ask you, a fascination with athletes, like yeah, like I know what it's everywhere us say, but there always has been and Steve, you know when you think about you know, the scandals and stuff like that where people were people are giving money and just handing money over to athletes because they just wanted to be a part of it. So that wasp I came from Dallas in nineteen eighty seven and happened in SMU about that time, and that was just you know,
here's your money in the paper bag. That's what explain what we're talking about. Okay, So uh earlier today there was an announcement from the the NIL Collective Desert Take, which is the it's the football specific uh NIL for Arizona football. It falls under the guess the auspices of the Friends of Wilburn Wilma, but this is where the nil money they collect those directed football players.
They've formed a partnership with something called my nil Pay, which is a digital platform basically an app where you can go into the app all all you have a football players are are registered with this app. But you can just send money to a player. Uh. It apparently meets all the NCAA requirements.
And that's where I see you get some says upon receipt. So you send money through the app, an email goes to the student athlete, they accept the funds, that goes directed to their linked bank account, and then the fan. It says upon receipt, the fan will receive a unique digital asset featuring the athlete's name and digital signature. To complete the transaction and compliance with the la quid quid pro quoke requirement. No additional action is needed for
the student athletes. So basically you can just give money to an athlete. You get some sort of a digital something or other, and that satisfies the nil rule that says they've got you do something for them, they got to do something for you. So it sounds to me like it's just a way
to you know, pen money over to an athlete. Sure, there's still some players and I don't remember whom are sitting out this first couple of games because they took money three years ago, two three years Well before all this
stuff, there's a there's an LSU players. Maybe that's the one. There's an LSU alignman who a month before NIL became official, he took some money for signing some autographs and this was in the twenty twenty one before the twenty twenty one season, so it took some time for it to go through all the stuff. Then they wanted to suspend him for a game, but he
was out for the year for the twenty twenty two season. So now that suspension is happening in twenty twenty three, So he's gonna miss a game for something that happened two years ago that a month after he did it was legal. People are pissed people, people that I'm trying to again protest that that speeding ticket I did a couple years all kinds of stuff. So hey, so we hey, we're back with Draft Kings. We're we're endorsing those guys
against week you know, we've got some businesses with him. You should be hearing some ads from Steve and uh and for us, well, college football fans, are you ready for Week one? them, but that we haven't. You know, we haven't been. We do mostly the nine months of Foah football season and then into basketball, so right, but we're happy to be back with those guys. We're gonna get try and get a Draft Kings guy on the show this week as we had in this week or next week because next week is going to be really the NFL type of stuff, right, and get into college an NFL season,

But why we do the show, right exactly? We gotta pay for the show, right, we do, we do, and we do, we do and we do. But hey, the guys of My Heart are good to us, so we didn't. It's all very good too. They've been They've been great to and you know, it's been a good platform for
us to be on. You know. The Heart's a big deal. Yeah. Well, in fact, next week is our thirty year anniversary. Yep, September one, I think I think so it was. It was. Yeah, you got to remember when I wrecked my car. It was that day, that's right, I remember that. You call it. I don't know what I'm gonna get there, I'm just like, wait, what I got to do this by myself? What the heck? Yeah? It was you remember who we add on web? I think it was web diving about
guy oh God, the baseball player. Ye oh my god. Right, so I missed it. You almost let me hanging, Steve, You almost left me hanging anyway. So yeah, but you'll give us a call. Five two zero four one six seventy four four and a lot of stuff going on. Just just saw a thing came across, uh from Ben Boltsch, the writer at the l A Times, announcing that Bruno Fina will be the starting starting offensive tackle or the starting left tackle is Jula because Junior seems like
he's just been there. Well he went out, he went out, I don't know what. Yeah, maybe because I think he went out when when Beijean Robinson went out. But John played. You know he was only there for four years, right, three years? Four years? Three years? Yeah? Yeah, okay, Well so that that'll be nice to have a John on it. Now that we see that Bruno was actually been announced as a starter at UCLA, good for him, you know it. I mean, look, remember John John Fina was, I mean, he's a good
tall guy and stuff like that. But he was sort of an undersized guy, you know when he got to Arizona and what he made himself into pretty well, he's a smart dude, and he was not on the he was a defensive the guy right then turned him into an offensive guy and voila a lot a long time in the NFL. Yep, yep. I'm looking at Bruno right now, is hee? Uh what his eligibility is? He's a red shirt junior. Yeah that makes sense. Yeah, yeah, that makes
sense. He's got he looks just like John except the light. He's got the light here here. Yeah, and he speaks exactly well, you know, we're all products of our our part anything like my dad, you sound like your brothers, so they get it from somewhere. Yeah, they got it from your dad. Okay, they had to get it because you sound like Rick and Jane, kind of a combination, more more crazy than them.
More How can I say this, because because you're the brother d dad, he's very mellow, so you have different personalities, but you're more to the shade of Rick and Gene. I don't know how to take that. You have you have no choice, you have to Yeah, no, choice. You can't be kind of pregnant. You're you're pregnant. That's what I'm not. Kind of their brother. I had their brother exactly because I'm sure you spent more time with them. Yeah, and that's where you that's how
you develop, I guess. I guess. Yeah, like me, I'm I'm a probably with my father and speak exactly. My father's too fast, mumble all that stuff. My kids probably do the same, Yeah, exactly. Yeah, all right, bad was good news for Bruno Phenis. So it'll be it'll be fun to get John on and say, hey, dude, your son is starting. Yeah, I'm sure he knew that already, sounds a lot like him, bigger. We'll talk about all that. Yeah, yeah, okay, it'd be fun. So we got draft Kings out
of the way. Good. We'll be hearing more from us with that a lot, right right right, Well, you we and we encourage you. You know, we use draft kings. I think I haven't been on the other apps, but I can't imagine there's one that's been that's easier than than draft Kings. It's been easy, it's fun. You never had an issue with them. You know, you're you're never in a situation where they you know, they can't take bets or you don't get your payout or whatever.
Ill though, I had a bet the other day that I couldn't understand why why it hadn't paid off because the team that I had bet on it won And then I found out that I had bet on the game for the next day, not that day, and uh and ended up winning the one the next day anyway, so it was okay. But I don't know, It's just it works, and we have a lot of fun with it, play around with it, and it's pretty cool. So we encourage you guys to use it, and if you do use put the code in fourteen fifty yeah
right right right descripted. So I saw a tweet from Brian Peterson. We did not go to the press conference today. They had Nansen and they had Carol asked to reflect on the laws against Andy you Britain. Carroll's initial response was nope, and then he said we went on to say it was a good indication of how far Arizona still had to go. Yeah, well, and that that and that's the thing. You know, you talk about that
game again. We talked about that night and you know the way I felt walking out of the stadium that day, and again I was angry that they had lost to them. But then I kind of realized that I was angry at the wrong people, right, I was angry at Jed. I was angry at the guys on the field. And then I realized that the one they need, the ones they need to be angry at, were Kevin Sumlin what he had done to the program and the depths that he had taken it
too. And you know, because after last year, you realized that Jed can do this job. You know, how good can he do it? I still don't think we know, but he certainly is not. Uh well, it's not a horrible coach because of that lost. Let me give you this and I'm gonna put you on the spot. Okay, so you you you kind of pooh poohdon, right, Colorado. Let's say that Arizona,
Haddon and Colorado had Jed. How would you feel? I think we got we I would think we had the better end of the deal because we got Don and all the everything, the attention and everything that he brings to the program. But you would think if I'm wanted jet Fish over there taking Colorado and doing all these things and Deon can't win any games over here, then
I'm going, what the hell happened? Though? But but my point is, you say, a new coach, a guy you don't really know who he is, and then starting to program with jet Fish, who's that? Ye? Who's that? And and how's he doing this at Colorado? But here he is here? Yeah, so it's it's you. You're it's closer to home now. I'm Olympic this right, And I don't know if you asked, but I'm happy right now. Yea that Arizona's got jet Fish and they've got Dion. No, no, no, no, because we know
how far jet Fish is already. This is not a right right, a wrong guy. It was more of me asking you because you poo poo uh Dion because you don't think he can. I don't know what you you think. I feel. What I know about Dion is that I don't see that thing. I don't feel like that's gonna hold his interest. Okay, okay,
okay. Deon's got bigger things to think that he does think. But but he's got to succeed here to get those bigger injus he does but I I you know, I could see if it doesn't go well right away, then he'll get bored with it and he'll just see. I don't I don't see that happening with him. He's one of those dudes. If it doesn't go well, he'll buy a team and make it go well. You know
what I'm saying that he's one of those dudes. Maybe he will, Maybe he will, you know where he Yeah, he's got a competitive nature that we don't exactly exactly. I understand it, understand Okay, all right, let's take our break. When come back, we'll have breaking news from Noah, who's sitting here piling it up for right after the breaks, we'll stick around
