This is High on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio while just Surgery I on the mall. They welcome back to on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay, and I hope he has some freaking news. Is High on the Ball Breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. All right, it's mentioned just a lot of little stuff, little bits and pieces of news, but all of it new worthy. The Arizona

baseball team announced their fall twenty twenty three exhibition schedule. I think we mentioned before. They opened with on October fifth and the Mexican Baseball Fiesta that our friend Mike Vader does don at Kino. They'll be playing the night on Hero's

the ermal Siou et Kino at a time to be announced. The the second game on that day, and then they're gonna then they're they wrap up their schedule with a couple of couple of games against some junior college teams Pema College on October the fourteenth at one o'clock at High Corbett and then the following Saturday against Central Arizona, so two of the better teams uh JC teams in the

state doesn't. So they'll they'll they'll get things going. So you know, just uh, Chip Hall just talked about what a great thing the BA Baseball Fiesta thing is that they love playing and yeah, yeah, I don't. So they're gonna be pretty good. Yeah, I think. Yeah, you know, he's got he's got to get the pitching again. But as always, more baseball news. Mike Trout coming off of seven week stint on the

on the injured list. When that happened when he took a swing, didn't get hit, he took a swing and broke his hand, and so he's been out since then. So he comes back to night the Angels at the time, we're in the hunt for a playoff spot. They've gone sixteen and twenty two since he's been gone, and they're nine games out of the wild card race, which means they're pretty much out of the wild card race. But that's too bad for Mike Trout. You know, you just feel bad

for that guy that hasn't had a chance. And already who Altie Moreno, who who went all out and kept thinking they had a chance, right, right, and they had a chance. They had a chance, and then they went to the dumper right in the toity. Okay, so as as a fall camps and for various uh N, various college football teams, some personnel news. First of all, one that kind of stings for me. Who who who's picked Washington to uh to win the Pac twelve and they even

have a wage on it with Steve. They lost their starting running back Cameron Davis for the season with I think a knee injury. He's out for the year. Uh it hurts. Then they also lost a h an offensive tackle or an offensive lineman who I think is out for for the year as well, but starting running back. I mean, you know, look, you affairs lost Michael Wiley. That's what we're talking about. So big big blow for the Huskies and big blow for that that over under on wins for you

if you've got them, Washington, So too bad there. Oregon State has named as expected dj ou Young dele as their starting quarterback. They went and got him for that reason. He's a transfer portal guy out of Clemson, so he's the he's their starting quarterback. And then a little bit of a surprise because I think you know, we saw Trenton Boorgay from my ASU do such a good job for Frace you last year. Certainly played a great game

against Arizona even though they did get beat here. But he will not be the starter for the opening for them opening game. I bet you he'll play the he'll play. He'll take over the role at some point. Yeah, he's just not that he's too good, because he's good, but he's one of those quarterbacks you just wish you had because he doesn't make mistakes, gets

the job done, and there you have a little bit surprised. Yeah, Jayden was shot of the kid that remember the Florida kids that thought he had a thirteen million dollars contract with Florida and then all that blew up and then he ended up ended up coming to a SCU. He's a freshman. He's a true freshman, six four under any five pounds. He's out of it's out of Southern California. But he's the guys. He's been named the starter

for the US season opener for a SU. So there's a couple of couple of a couple of moves related football news, uh Bret McMurphy reporting that Mississippi State where who where Arizona has to visit its second game of the season, has sold its entire lotment of forty thousand season tickets. Yea. The SEC is just totally different in it. Yeah here, you were talking to me about sixteen thousand last week. Yeah, maybe you to get better. That's not a different. It just means more. And they say, yeah,

Starkville, Mississippi. Right, forty thousand seasons, twenty thousand people. Okay, So you talked about Arizona being the home court of the home field advantage. Tell me that Arizona's gonna go there and and and win that game. I don't think they are, okay, No, No, I thought you I think they can. I don't think they are. Okay, I don't think you know. No, I'm trying to I'm trying to look this up and see what their their population is forty four thousand under, they're twenty twenty

one population, No, what twenty four thousands? Ye know what it says right here, that's the type of Really you have more people buy teason tickets in this in the city. Really, that's how many how many people are right here? I would have never guessed that what do they? I was joking, because how is that possible? Steve? Again, that's what you know. It's it's we gotta call I gotta call it. It's just where they are. Someone from Mississippi. Hi, you're on the aaron I and

the ball. You have a yeah, can you take a call? I memory about about Loot and being intimidated by him. What's your name? Frank? Oh? Hey, Frank, how are you good? Thanks for listening? What's this? What's the story? Okay? I was working at the La Times in news, but I knew the guy that covered USC basketball great Sand of all, So I said, let me, yeah, why don't I go sit with you in the in the in the sports, you know, sports writer section. He said, sure, come on over. So

this is uh nineteen eighty seven eight. No, I'm sorry, nineteen ninety seven, ninety eight. Okay, okay, Arizona was a defending champion as the AA champion, and at this time they were undefeated in the pack. So he's going to let the whole game. As I remember against uh USC, USC was not tighly ranked at all. And what happens in the very last second as uh USC player hits a three pointer you guys may remember that Adam Adam Spanish I can remember, yeah, right at USC Whiz. So

Greg. Greg says to me, uh, hey, Frank, can you go I'm up dead, like, can you go shag a quote for me from Luke? And I said sure. So I go back to Uh there's the locker room and Lude is coming out with a skull on this face. I kind of approached him, but he had such a means angry look on his face. I said, Hey, I'm not getting paid for this. I'm not gonna do that. And you're a kid, you veteran do right, Yeah, you're an older guy and you're not You're a l Yeah.

So anyway, luckily Jason Terry came along. I said, he said, I talked to you from the So Jason gave me a quote, uh which I think Greg, you is uh uh that year you that year was crazy, book because if you were there, Adam Spanish hit the shot and it bounced and it stopped and then it fell in and they would have been the first team to ever go undefeated in the Pac twelve PAC ten back then, and they didn't. And it was the Henry, it was the Bibby Bibby

versus Baby game. Yeah, exactly, and uh and uh, of course, I guess I was kind of a pre prelude what happened later on if I'm uh, wait a minute, they made mistaken here never mind. Yeah, so anyway, that's that's a great story. I do remember that that was lou was upset. Obviously it was a tough game. They would have gone undefeated that year in the Pac twelve. Thanks for the memory. Yeah, there were what's seventeen and zero at the time, seventeen year, right,

exactly. They needed that one. Thank you for Frank, Thanks for the memory, Thanks for the call. Good to talk to you, all right, Thank you by you. Frank one of my mentors. Man, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that was yeah. I mean he got LA times guy. Yeah, it's pretty funny. That's pretty funny. All right, I got one for you. Canna get the syndroal? Yeah, sure, do you see Frank ConA no, kind of hinting

that the retirement. I've tried to evalue him a situation probably the last couple of months a lot, and I'm not always pleased with the answer I'm getting U kind of is he's been ill too, he's been he's had some health issues. Yeah, I can see why, you know, he would say, you know what, it's it's time to slow down. So I hear you, man, I hear you. All Right, Well, I'm looking,

you know, I'm looking at the map wor Stark. It's not near anything, So I don't know where these people are coming from to go to these games. But they sold forty thousand season tickets and twenty in the town of twenty four thousand people. That's you know, Arizona fan. There's a million of us here, right sure, get your butt into the stadium.

You know what, We're gonna play this clip by It's not breaking news, but we're gonna play this clip by it did we did we play that one where we're about packing them go. We're gonna play this clip from Jed the other day. If you think, uh, you know, if we're talking about a town forty thousand seats when they've only got twenty four thousand people. Here's what Jed Fish had to say on Saturday night. I mean, if we got this in two weeks and we don't have fifty thousand people here,

that's not a good sign. We need to pack this place, and we need to embrace the opportunity that we have here. We got six shots at this at home, and we got to make sure we can get all fifty thousand, seven hundred people in here. So I asked the fans, and I asked two sign to really come out and give us everything they got in two weeks fourteen days from now and see if we can actually rally the troops up and have the type of night that we we believe we can have if

we do. This is not a reflection of him, No, it's a reflection of the town. And you've seen it all your life. I've seen it since i've been here. I don't know other places, but I know they're like this. It's it's Fickletown. I mean a couple of times, you know, in the in the Dick Tommy years, you'll found the ninety eight season whatnot? They sold twenty three twenty four thousand seasons because that was about as good as the game. And that's kind of like the ceiling,

right, Yeah, it really is. Mid twenties is like, you get to mid twenties, they're happy, all right, they're happy of the kale if they if they get to that so again we're being put to shame by Starkfield. Missus. Well, it's gonna be a tough game, so you know, and that's kind of the game. You think they're gonna lose anything? Yeah, yeah, I mean I've got that marked down as I mean, if I'm marking wins and losses right now, I'm marking that is a

loss. I think Arizona has a shot to win it, but not not not very likely, right. Interesting decision by Robert Salet, the head coach of the New York Jets. He's gonna start Aaron Rodgers in their last preseason games. Rogers hasn't played in the preseason games since two thousand and eighteen because she's how good. Yes, yeah, he just said, look, you know, everybody needs some work, and he's just basically and people are ripping. What would you know, what would you risk herding him and stuff?

He said, Look, if we're gonna walk around worrying about whether or not we're gonna get hurt, we're gonna suck, basically what he said. So Aaron Rodgers will play in the last preseason game for the New York Jets this week. So an interesting call. There. Have you seen have you seen

Bijean Robinson's commercial. It's a great commercials. I don't know if this is on just on TV, it's on social media, but it's a it's a it's just for his mustard and so it's a it's a it's a thing where you see a quarterback taking a snap, he goes back to pass, he grabs a weenie off the grill and he throws it as a pass. Bejean sitting in like in a lounge, shareholding hot dog bun. The hot dog lands in the bun, he puts a mustard on it and then he just

goes touchdown. It's on Twitter, yeah, and it's it says it's like a touchdown in your mouth. So yeah, you can find it on two if you if you if you search Bjan Robinson, you'll find it on X. They had a team there before, so now they've gone down into Florida, so really all over the country now for sure. It's just part of the thing that I was on is in. Yeah, the Indoor Football League, the two so that that gives him fifteen teams in the league now. So

but it'll be the Jacksonville Sharks joining the league next year. And then we find out from USA today that Serena Williams had a baby boy yesterday or is it today? Oh? Today? Well, it was announced today. They've got a five year old daughter and now they have a second daughter said a baby boy, Uh, that was born today. So there you go. I on the fall on two Sons Sports station, Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to on the Ball Here on Fox Sports fourteen

fifteen. I'm Steve Rivera. He's Jaken's else. Now on the phone, we have Robert Polido, the Arizona father. Raymond Polido visited over the weekend. How are you, Robert, Well, we're doing well. We're doing well. I hope you're a good spot. You kind of already broke up. But how was it coming out here? You've been out here before, obviously, but you drove out here to watch your son in the scrimmage? Yes, how was it? Uh? It was nice? I meant was

ideal? Right, How was it drive back? Well, the drive back was nice until I got to the palm screens area, So that was that was something different. So so you're really in the early stages of of seeing how how your son what your son's gonna go through as a as a college football player. But leading up to this, what have been some of the highlights for you and watching you know where your son is landed at Arizona, he's competing for a starting job. What's kind of been going through your mind?

Is the dad watching this and what kind of you know, conversation do you have with it with Raymond when you're talking about what's going on around him. I've always so, I've always told me had a gift, and to take his gift and just give it a one hundred and ten percent and see how far it takes him. I told, you know, my wife, his mom, that at the age of ten, he had the it factor, right, So, and she was like, Oh, you're just saying

that because your dad. Now, I said, I've coached a while, even basketball and football, and there's certain kids who come across to have that im factor that they're just build different. And I thought he had that. So, you know, he he took to what I said, and you know, and we took baby steps. You know, it'll get you somewhere in high school and then from high school if you do what I believe you can accomplish, it'll get your three education. And you know, he's been

writing that one step at a time mentality this whole way baby steps. He's what six six three forty five. Those baby steps left a long time ago. Well, you know, a good lineman always takes from baby steps the foot off the ground for too long. That's true. You talked about ten years old. How big was he dead? He was about five nine five ten maybe. And and what about the wait, he was about one eighty solid one eighty man. Yeah, they're probably saying get the versus the begin

holding. So so at some point, you know, he's playing high school football and recruiters are starting to come around. We've seen, we've seen the long list of schools all the way up to Alabama that we're interested in, in Michigan, Tennessee, Miami. You know what, how how do the two of you handle this? What? You know? How what kind of advice could you offer him to help him? You kind of worked through all

of this. So he's always he's very private and very working like so to get the notoriety and to get the attention from from all these coaches, it was different for him. You know, he's like, Dad, Okay, that's good. I just want to go and go back and I'm gonna go work and do what I do. I said, okay, So I just kind of let them know that they were coming and these these uh these offers we were legiti you know, and and to him he was like I okay,

yeah, he wasn't. He never really got overly excited about anything because to him, he's a get I'm the one doing the work. You know, I want to be the best I can be, so you know, let the results be what they are. So that's always been his ntality. Did he ever get get? Give you a sense of what was most important to him? To him, it's coaches. So whatever coaching staff was going to help him more position coach wow, Ete's I was going to utilize him

to be the best that he can at his position. Well he's he's ideal. I mean, come on, look at that size in a place where Arizona needs that size, right. So going to that was like I went to the second school we really visited when he was heading into tenth grade, and coach Bitch and Brendan Carroll were the first two that were there maybe three

months when we when we first seen him. And I knew of Brendan Carroll because I'm a RANS fan and he was a Seattle ski Hawks old rank coach with his dad, So I kind of you know, he knew what he was talking about, and he's seeing r J's my son's size, and he's like, yeah, kid, you have every tool that you would want for a prototypical NFL guy. And my son was like, Okay, that's cool, it's funny. It's funny. I saw highlight I don't know, a couple of days ago. He was on the old line obviously, but he

was like running down the field making sure he blocked his guy. He was probably in high school somewhere, maybe junior senior year, just and still very mobile. Yeah, he's so that's been one of it again. And that's when I when I told my wife he's profecial. He's got he's like a big dancing bear. You know, he's very mobile. Like we had him in soccer, baseball, basketball, like since he was four, you know,

and so he's always played multiple sports. And then at the age of ten, he got too big for soccer obviously, you know, people are kicking him in the shins and he was getting frustrated. So I introduced him the football and that's where football began interesting. So he's been he's been in Arizona. What have been some of the conversations. What's he know, what's he been liking about the place and the coaching. I mean, has the experience been kind of what he was hoping it would be. So he went

in there. He went in there still with the street mentality. I hadn't proven anything. I'm not sure if I'm even going to be good enough, right, And you know, he's killing it working out with the first while all the freshman when he first gets there, and you know, he's like telling me, Dad, I'm on top of the leader board, on top of the leader board like four out of five days every week. And you know if he's loving it because he loves the hard work and he loves he

loves coach. Owen's right, right, because if you teach him how to work out the correct way and how to do things the right way, he's going to gravitate to you. That's his thing. If this is going to make me better, I Am going to do it one hundred and ten percent. Well, that's that's what he loved about being out there. So we're talking to the father of Raymond Polido, Robert Polio. So so so,

Robert, how cool is it for the family? Obviously very big supporters of their son to be playing here, which is, you know, a nice little drive from home. It's it's actually really it's great, you know, I understand of course Mama Mom was really proud that he had children Alabama, as we all were, right. It was a true testament of two how

they've seen him, what type of athlete he is. But when it all came down to it, he wanted to be closer to home, not too close, meaning not our backyard schools like UCLA or USC they were in the mix, but they he just wanted to be a little further, you know, And so and coach Benn and Carroll was was a good fit. But so so you know what we were talking earlier. I'm guess you're gonna probably be at all his home games and then maybe a few few of those California

games. And how much of an opportunity will you have to follow him? We are blessed. We me and my wife both worked for the school district, so we have a good amount of days that we can take personal days. So you know, obviously other home games. We already booked the flight when we figured out that he was going to be considered highly for a starter or playing significant time as a freshman. So we'll be doing the Mississippi state

trip as well. Wow, what do you well, yeah, had you been had either of you or your family been to two you know, spent much time in Tucson. What did you know about Tucson and the u A when all this started for you guys? So his older brother, he has an older brother that actually lives in Tucson and had moved out there two years ago, like a year prior, and at that time he wasn't considered I mean he wasn't he hadn't committed to either school, but Alabama was you know,

where he was at it. And then it just became you know, U of A and big brothers happy and we're happy. And you know, it turns out we have a lot of family and relatives, were close friends that live in the area from Phoenix all the way down. So all right, yeah, nice, nice, nice. I'm not sure what else. Well again, you know, it's still it's still a program. It's sort of in its infancy, you know what how what is what is Raymond told you about? Just to feel around the program? How you know, how

the coaches are overall the you know, the players. I mean, what's he you know, what's he enjoyed about it? You know, what's he still figuring out those kinds of things. So so again going back to three years ago when we first visited, he liked the how genuine coach Fish and Brendan Carroll with some of the other staff that were new at the time. He really he really fought a good connection with them. But the whole u of a, the whole football facilities weren't weren't fully built, you know,

they were remodeling. So so the first thing they took care about, believe was Coach Fisher's office in two offices, and then the weight room. So he walks into the weight room and he's like, this is this is what it's about. Right here, this is where the word gets done. And they had all that the new technology where you know, they they monitor every rep and all that personal game and he just loved it. So he knew

that they were heading in the right direction. And it's backtracked now to this past December when he was looking you know, he had informed Alabama that he was going to look at some schools closer to the West coast. So it all came down to Oregon and U of A just because of the position position coaches, not so much for the program itself, but the position coaches.

And it just curtained out that Oregons coach decided he was going to go to the NFL back into the NFL, the online coach and then that it just made it easier for him to say, Dad, I've always liked, you know, coach Carola, and I liked to feel that at Arizona and they're doing good things. And he was very familiar with the boys from Survey because

he participated a lot of the practices that they had. And they remember during the COVID season they had like, h it was like some underground football league. Well he was part of that. He was part of that league and he got to play with these guys down at that league, and so he had a good bond with those guys and he was like, it just feel like home, very good. Yeah, well he's going to be at the nice nut ground level of the resurgence of the program, but pretty much near

the ground. Had a good time, I think, yeah, right, and be a part of the building program. And that's one thing he does feel. He it just seems like all the guys that are there, especially in his position, his position group, they're very similar. They're kind of low key guys that just want to work and be the best that they can. And that's and that's exactly where where where he's at. He goes, let me put my hard hat on, let me go to work, and let me show you what I can do. Yeah, okay, well,

Robert, we appreciate it. Thank you very much for joining us. We'll see you soon. Welcome, Thank you, appreciate thank you for having me and h and we'll see you guys out there. All right, you come down next and next week already yeah, back right started. Definitely be back for the revenge game against an aud you're talking about it. Steve Ravera and Jakin Salas. They have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports Big Jefs Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live on the iHeart Radio WAM. Then welcome back to the bout he Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Those you're jenkins, ass have fifteen minutes if you just want to give us a call? Could us off to day? That was fun with with Robert Polido. You know, look, we're you know, we're dads of kids who played

sports and stuff like that. You know, we've talked about the dream right gave me into the NFL, in the NBA, you know, wherever, you know, and then you know you got a kid, Raymond Polido. Basically I think what he's eighteen years old, he's six six, three thirty five and getting ready to start two would be a starter. Friends on the football, very noticeball on the sideliness, very noticemall on the sideline. How could you not write being huge dude, the guy that Arizona is looking for

on the line, both lines. You know, I want to ask you. I don't know if you noticed it, but the kid from is it from Colorado? Who transferred the son of the son of a former U of a guy Johnson, what's his name? The brothers and then they one was older than the other, transferred from Chicago from Colorado. You got me, john John Johnson played. Here's dad played here Johnson? No, no, no, no, oh oh oh oh oh oh d him him. He's out there right. I thought I saw him. He's a defensive end.

Defensive end. You know what I'm talking I do not. You don't know who I'm talking about. I do not. Well, I thought you said, oh what I've no. Oh no, I was thinking of a guy who's a defensive back. Here you do no? Oh God, I have to go enough for it. Who's a kid from Colorado that played his son? You got me? Man? I don't know, man, I don't know all these things defensive end and they just are. I'm just wondering.

I'm just wondering what's gonna become of him because I don't think he's playing much. And probably some of you might text being and let me know, Man, I don't have this. Man's this is killing me. As usual. Today is my forgetful day days. Well, let's let's forget more than usual. Johnson no, Johnson. You have a Johnson and I'm looking to the roster. Now, I'll come up with it. I'll come up with it. Holy MOLLI you better talk because I'm gonna look. I got nothing,

Steve, I got nothing on this. I got zero for you. Okay, I'm trying to go through the roster as well. He's a Johnson and he's alignment. Don't don't pay attention to last name. He's a defensive lineman. Defensiveman, I'm pretty sure. Who's the kid who transferred in from Colorado because his brother played here? Man, I don't I don't have this, man, Jones, No, I do not have this. How come I can't come up with this because you're you're an old guy, doesn't remember anything.

It'll come to me. Okay, but you know, but again, I know, you know when when you're talking about a kid that got offers from the places he got offers from initially committed to Jaylen Harris. Yeah, oh yeah, god see, thank you, thank you, guest, you were Johnson. What the hell was that, dude, I don't you weren't even in the glad. I kind of whispered it. Yeah, thank you,

thank you for that information. Harris. I mean he come on, he was his brother man played here Sean Harris and then then you haven't heard a word from about him. No, I saw him. Well he yeah, he was in the scrimmage. That's why. That's how it, because he was writing bother us. Yeah, I said he got in. I know he's played some. Whether he's gonna be you know, a fee guy. I mean certainly that the Harrises have the body, you know. Uh,

but I again, you know, I don't know. Yeah, well, you like to make up of the roster when you when kids like that can't play or can't play, that you have better players in front of I'm looking at theirs on the roster, a lot roster on the website. He's not on it. No, he was there. He's not on the roster. Steve wow Im what number is he? I don't know. You've got him on the rest right there, Jason the six. Let's see. I'm trying to get this come up. No, whoa is that something new?

We're breaking new? Could we could be breaking it? Because why wouldn't he be He's not he's not listening on the roster. I'm gonna make a text. I'm gonna text somebody something one of our one of our guys who knows things that we don't know. But well, you know what I mean again, is you know his brother which he's he's Jalen. Which one which was on the graduating right, This one's this one's Jason Jason? Heres? Okay,

Well his brother was. He was a good player, looked apart started wasn't the superstar that people kind of thought he could be or thought he might be, just because of what he looked like in a football uniform. You know, I don't know, I mean, what what you know? What's going on here? Because you're right, he was there, said that specifically saw That's why. That's why he kept walking up, walking up and down

the That's why I ask you. He was writing in front of us, and I'm saying, no, there was the younger Jason, the younger Harris came and he hasn't really come come about. You know, they were excited to have him. His brother was there, played played on the brown right and nothing. Yeah, interesting interesting, you know what. Look, it's one of those things, Steve. Where As the Arizona roster gets better,

which it is getting better, and they got more guys. You know, there are guys who had been recruited who maybe you know, at the time, they were a guy that that that Arizona you know, wanted and could count on. But now you're you're, you're, you're in a situation where they've got such better players across the board that maybe you know, maybe you've been uh, you've been passed along, you've been you know, somebody,

somebody's passed you by a little bit. Yeah, right, and just the way it is, yeah, you know, I mean, you know, look a Gunner cruise the quarterback, right. It's funny because you're he was the guy. You're you're because you're you're this, and you're not gonna say you're not because you are. They look the part. They come off from an airport and you still see Gunner alone sidelines, and yeah, the dude looks like exactly what you think. He still looks like a quarterback, but

he's not. But he's a grat assistant now yeah, and he's just gonna, you know, helping outright, But he looks the part right, And I don't even know where I'm going with this, but but that's funny because when you looked a part, sometimes you're just not the part you are. That's why. And I asked Justin this yesterday. And you know where I'm going with this with the Justin Flow thing is that he looks the part he looks. But how good is he really good? Well, we're gonna find

out how good he is. I mean, that's just right, you know, just because they are going to put him on the field. We're gonna find out. But again, I think I think people or surprised to hear that Justin Flow is not has not earned a starting job yet. And you think, what would you think right away off the bat? Come on, wait, wait, wait, I'm gonna put you in a spot. March when they played the when they played in the String game or April whatever it

was. What are you thinking? You've seen this guy come on in the room while he again he walks in the dorm like Arizona has never had that guy. You're thinking, holy crap, they've got this guy, whether you knew who his name or not, right, and you're thinking, this guy's gonna be pretty good right well, you know yet he had injury problems up in Oregon. We don't know, you know, how he's built and how that's gonna you know, how it's gonna fly, and how you know how

much he'll be able to contribute. I mean, you hope, you expect,

but you don't know. And that's just the way it is. And especially when you're dealing with, you know, eighteen to twenty two year olds from one day to the next, you don't know what the hell is going on with them and what you know, and you know, from a from a standpoint of you know, physically, mentally, all those things that go into it, looked being a college football players is a hard job, a job because you're you're you're being a football player is hard enough that the fact

that you also got to go to school, you got to do all these other things, got all these other responsibilities, and you're and you're you're pretty young where you know last you know, last year, you're going to the senior prom and now you're being expected to be all these things in a big time way on TV, major college football, millions of dollars at stake, and all of a sudden, there's all this pressure on you, you know, to be great, and sometimes it's hard. It's just hard with these

guys. Yeah, no question, it's probably one of the hardest jobs. But you know, student athletes hide it tough. They just do. You have a great life, no, n il if you can get it, if you can get it. But it's it's your time. Your time is very limited. It's it's hard. It's really hard. Yeah, And and it gains probably you can put up with it a lot more if the fact that you know, you got money to do stuff, when you've got when you do have time and stuff like that, it's it's not such a grind,

but none the last, it's not easy. It's not an easy job. But you see what you know, what these kids have to do and the worlds have to put in to be to be good players at the college level, right right, And so many visible you know, basketball players probably have with the best because they're visible. Football players aren't visible, I mean right, I mean you know, I mean Raymond Polido, right, we were talking about him right now. How much we're gonna talk Is he gonna

be talked about? Not so much by us, but by you know, the media, by the you know, the TV guys doing it, doing an Arizona game or whatever. How much attention is he gonna get? Sure, do these guys fall into the background. Somebody like George Morgan. People are gonna keep it on him because they're talking about him being a first round Sure. Sure, but there's there's eight of the linemen that are gonna play right, right, and their offensive linemen. How often do you see them?

Right? Would you outside of them walking in the room and then knowing they're six foot whatever, you're thinking, oh, okay, but I don't even know who you could you could you pick him out of the lineup because you don't know what they look like. Yeah, you don't see their faces.

You know they're they're behind and the only time you really know who they are is when they have a penalty and you're cussing out of five year emotions, illegal procedure penalty, when you're when you got third and one and now you got third right, And that was a concern on Saturday. Yeah, so many, so many flags, so many kind of disjointed Ye, but there's a lot to like obviously, obviously, wow, there is And you know, uh, again, as we talked about, I think there's a

little bit of a buzz about the team. So let me let me ask you this too. The things that I think about doing so we're talking to Jed right after the game, right, perfect night. When you see Jed talk to us, what do you think I'm asking you? Honestly, I feel like we're talking to a guy at a bar. I think we're talking to a tennis coach. Yeah, he's got the Jackie shorts and he's got yeah, just don't have to sock. But you know the below the socks.

Do you remember the Kansas coach from many years ago, the big dude, the big dude, he was really big. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I can't remember. He didn't look like the football coach right, or there was there was the dude from uh from Notre Dame. He was a patriot. Yeah yeah, white, white, white, I remember, just didn't just didn't look the prey. And not that Jed doesn't, but he doesn't. He looks like he again, he doesn't have you don't look

at him. Go, there's a guy who played college football, right, you say, there's a guy who played tennis in college, which he did, and he looks like it looks you know it's because my I should I'll give up my wife on this one. You know, I was playing.

I was cutting clips from one of the I from the press cup from one of the press conferences, and so she was hearing his voice, you know, in the room, and she said, he he's got this scratchy voice, like a guy who you know, smokes cigarettes and drinks beer all the time. You know, he just doesn't sound like you know, he doesn't sound like a football coach. He sounds like a guy you meet at a bar and you're hanging out with. But he also saw, I will say,

though you talk to him, he also sounds very smart. Oh, without question. Right with that question, without question, I mean he I agree with your wife in the screet he just has one of those it's an accent from somewhere. But Durst, without question, the dude is shrewd and smart. He's really smart. The stuff that he talks about and the stuff that he sees that the things that he tells us. Yeah that, like you, I never would have thought it. Yeah, well this is what

he does, right, this is what he does. But no question when he because he's because he's smart. Then you say, here's the dude in cake He looks like a tennis coach. Yeah, but here here's what I guess where I'm going from on this is you feel like he's been taking notes all his life question and that he's got questions, like a notebook of notes, no questions that uh, you know, a note on every situation that he's he's gonna face that he's been. He somehow there's a journal or a

notebook or a file. Maybe it's on a computer, something that he can refer to that he has seen or experience in the past. And he saved it and he said this is gonna come up someday and he compartmentalizes in his memory. You know. The guy who did that blently and I admired him for it was Sean. He had the answer to your question before you asked the question. Yeah, but he was. He was, but he didn't answer your question. I know, but he But with Sean was kind of

like it was all rolled up in this ball of Sean. Oh no, he's other things. He's more authentic. But no, but Sean, you would ask him about the sun and he would tell you about the sun, but tell you about something else without telling you about the sun, because he he had an answer for it. Jed tells you about it. Yeah, Sean just had an answers for questions you didn't You didn't even ask. Yeah, no, you're right. Yeah, he was gonna tell you what he

wanted to tell you, regardless of what you're exactly Jed tells you. You know what you're asking, What dude Sean is like? What I didn't ask that? Hey, we gotta get out of here, all right. We want to thank everybody for being here. Be sure to listen to the podcast it'll be posted tonight, and be sure to come back tomorrow. Thanks for being here.
