Pretty love, I mean my heart radio. While this is I on the Ball with Steve Brava and Jay Gat Silence on Fox Sports sporteen. Hey, welcome back to Iran the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, he's Jay Got. Jason was some breaking news high on the Jordan Morgan and join us. I've been named to the Outland Trophy watch list. That uh, Jordan Jordan Morgan. J Yeah, those two guys are you know

again? Jordan Morgan was you know, he's he's widely considered the first round draft pick and so he's just you know, it's just gonna be a matter of you know, does his you know, he had the he had the injured need does that hold up? Um? You know, we'll see some national news. The US women's soccer national team. UM didn't win their A group at the World Cup for the first time in twelve years. They finished second to the Netherlands. People are really pissed about this. It's just a

bizarre thing. They want they're going after three peet right, they're trying to They're pretty dominant, and all of a sudden they're not. Yeah, and and and the thing is that some of the former players who you know, aren't playing for the first time and they're ripping up. Carly Lloyd went on and just shredded the team about how they looked, how they played, that they become entitled and and and complacent and yeah, yeah, I mean they

were the team was getting shredded. Yeah, that's on on social media. Say they played the weekend, right, they played on the weekend. When do they play the next Yeah? August six? August six, So twas about the weekend. Yeah, maybe we get one of our local experts to talk about, like Kelly, to talk about what they hang on with, what the heck's going on with them, because you have all these stars and maybe the chemistry is just kind of because they can't score. They haven't scored,

right, zero zero tie yesterday? Yeah, and they should have lost. Um they had Yeah, yeah, so I make it. Yeah, dang, h Are you sure you didn't put them any money on him? I did not. I did not touch it. I did not touch it. Steve, you cannot blame this on me. I know you want to, but you can't. Well that's my first place, are little kid? Uh? Some baseball news, the Houston Astros finalized the deal to acquire the a's justin of Verlander the New York Ments. Um, the Ments will receiving

autfielder Drew Gilbert and autfielder Ryan Clifford. You know, Um, the last I had heard was that Verlander might be going to the Dodgers. It would have been nice, but the Astrots got him. So I'm just glad the Braves didn't get him. At least the ast was there. In the American League. Someone from Detroit poop poo the trade to the Dodgers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, a guy that he had a he had ten teams on his no trade contract and the Dodge were one of them. He said,

I don't want to go. Fine, stay with the Detroit Tigers. They suck and they're gonna suck for a long time. You know, go ahead, you just stay there. He's not bitter. Yeah, yeah. Philadelphia Phillies aren't agreement on a trade to acquire right and starter Michael Lorenzen and then

Detroit Tigers. So it's a different different guy, different guys. Well, it's I think, you know, I don't pay attention to baseball, and you know that except for now, because the Reds are doing really well and they did well against your Doctors, And there's so many teams in the playoff hunt and we're in August, so there's a lot of things that could happen in the next month and a half. Yeah, no, there are, but um, you know, the Doctors need pitching. I don't feel like

they're world serious team. No, I don't. We still have that bet losing bet. We said, we said, in order to win it, you got to make the playoffs. No we did. I thought we just for whoever went further. No, I thought we said, you can't win it if you don't make you don't make the playoffs. So both teams. Don't the Doctors gonna make the playoffs. That just means I'm gonna lose anyone. You're gonna lose anyone. But the point being that, But my point

is that I don't think. I don't see the Dodgers going very far in the play Well okay, no, well the same bit. It's kind of you know, half it doesn't want to have the hand because everyone's picking the Padres because they're playing pretty well. Now finally, finally, finally they're so far they're they're back like five six kins. But what's what's that going with us? Uh, that they're one of the better teams. Now, I'm okay with it. I know I'm not have to pay that bet, but

we'll see. I mean, the Dodgers again are gonna need their heating to carry him. But and like I said, I think they're they're you know, they're gonna they might They're probably gonna even win the division. Although the Giants are playing really well right now. But nonetheless, I just don't see them going very far. I really don't. The Texan Rangers are acquiring Austin

Edges from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Uh. The Arizona Diamondbacks are acquiring outfielder Tommy Vam from New York from the New York Mets New York Metros fire the sort of the Diamondbacks they're just they're just following fast. Well, well, the Dimebacks are. They are only three and a half hours, so they're they're still in it. That's because that's because they had a lead another phone and as of now, um they're they're in the wild card so they're still in

it. But um, what are the last ten? They're horrible and last since the brand and seven since the break they're just miserable to three and the seven and the last time. But the Dodgers are four and six. I mean, well, everybody in the National League West is awful. The Dodgers are the Dodgers. They they're two and four in their homestand right now, unfortunately they got the a's coming in today. So the New York Yankees are

acquiring right hand or reliever Kennyan Militant from the Chicago White Sox. Again, you know, you can tell who's selling, who's buying, who's in the playoffs, he's not. I mean, the the Yankees are in the last place, so they're they're terrible. They're ten games out and they're three and a half games out of the wild cards. So I don't see why they're even doing anything. And they got it in Judge backs, so maybe they think Aaron Judge can get them back into this. They're they're shooting for a

wild card spot. Yeah. Um. The San Diego Padres are acquiring right hand or relievers Scott Barlow from the Kansas City Royals. Okay, okay, I don't know. I mean, this is all you, Jay, even this is not even me man. I mean some of them and that matters to me because you know, the Podres are in the Dodgers Dodgers Division, but right I'm not even thinking about the Padresteave just say, okay, I'm

not either until they're playing well, they're playing better or so. Um. There was a report that Apple TV Pack twelve coverage was going to feature former which is stayed head coach Ted Lasso as a leader analyst. I saw that. I don't know if that look right now. Man, everything everything going on with all this is just like you never know what, But that that sounds kind of funny. Okay. Yeah, And I'm still not seeing the

border regions meaning supposedly has ended. I'm just we're not seeing anything coming out of that. Again. They went into executive session, um without any comment about what they were there to meet about. And uh, they don't have to say anything if they don't make any kind of decisions or vote on anything. So I don't know, unless somebody leaked something, we're not gonna I don't know what we're gonna hear from from that. Okay, Um, that's

all I have for today. Then for breaking news, all right, Um, you know, just all the training camps are going, Um, there was something I didn't I didn't see the actual speech, but I guess. I guess Aaron Rodgers made some sort of a speech to the to the to the Jets that made them all warm and fuzzy and stuff. Oh you came out yesterday. Yeah, I'll talk about keep your keep my coach's mouth out, name out of your mouth or whatever. It was, Payne something that's

still you know, Uh, they're gonna be funny. He hated it. This is this is funny and you'll laugh with this because us It was very apparent that he hated being in Denver, or in not Denver but Green Bay for a while now, you know. And it was almost to spite them. But I still say he had twelve yards to run and he didn't do his. Hell, I ain't taking you back to the super Bowl. I

ain't taking you back to the super Bowl. I might have a chance to score, I ain't gonna score because it was just so miserable the last two or three years being there that it was almost like, get me the hell out of here, and I'm gonna I'm the guy in charge. Yeah, I'm like the decisions. I was a whole new person. They were talking

about that earlier. This is is he is this the real him or not the really I mean, I think he's just happy, you know, no more coaching drama, him, more player drama, just like you know, until there's until there's drawn way, until there is I guess you know, right now it's like honeymoon phase. Right now, everything's going well, so

you know, yeah, yeah, So here's a little thing. UM, the three air Zona players who got drafted baseball players, Chase Davis, Keik Ormero, and Chris Braza, um Arlin single A. They're not in rookie league, so they're already you know, moving up, UM, making their way. I just think Chase David, I'm not gonna say he's a can't miss guy, but I'm gonna say he's he's got a pretty dan good future. Uh. The other two guys, you know, it depends on where

they are and all that kind of stuff. But Chase Davis just looks like a major league ball player. He really does. Of course, he really really does. So, UM, I guess Kiko Romeros with the Yankees, Davis is with the Cardinals, and I don't know who Barazzo went to. Um, what are organizations those guys are rating, but you know, good good luck on those guys. Um. Another one, Ohio States quarterback, a guy named Hunter Deckers says, has been accused of placing multiple bets on

Iowa State sports, including a football game. This is who Iowa State, and he was betting on other Iowa State sports, including Iowa State football. I don't know who's accusing him, if it's something that's come out, you know, if there's an investigation taking place within the university. But again, you know, we're gonna keep finding these things out until these guys realize it's not worth the risk because there are taking a lot of risk by doing that.

You just don't, you know, just don't read the rules. Follow the rules. That's it. Yeah, read the rules. Will follow the rules pretty soon. Well you gotta do. It's very simple. Yeah. And if you don't like the rules, well that's just too bad. Those are the rules. Those are the rules. All right. We got about

four minutes left. I want to play this one clip because Dwayne Akeena, who got hired here as a and so they call it a special assistant, meaning he's not an on field coach, is in fact gonna be on the field, right now while Ricky Hundley is um is recovering or rehabbing a knee replacement. And so here's what the Jet Fish said about about Akeina's assignment this fall. Coach Akeena is gonna take on a on field role for us this

football season. We did a temporary replacement with coach Akeena Coach Huntley when it comes down to the specific role with the team, So Coach Huntley will take on more of a senior defensive assistant role during the fall where he's continuing to rehab his knee, and Coach Akeena is going to take on the role of the on field coach with our team and with our players. In turn, though that's just a temporary replacement, so Coach Huntley will still be recruiting for

our program. Coach Hunley will still be one of the ten Countable coaches when it comes to certain off field responsibilities, but when it comes to our players and on field, coach Akeena will be taking on that role as Coach Hunley continues to rehab. And I think it's a really interesting thing because Dwayne aquinas

you know Steve as an on field coach. I mean that guy brings an energy, Yeah, um, we we're having fun with that, talking to him about how his wife commented that every picture of him that you see on social media, he's like yelling and or very animated, perfect word, he's very animated and in all the pictures and stuff, and there's like no just as a studio shot. Yeah, but you know it's a it's a it's a positive and he's ye like yelling, he's getting you to play harder,

encouragement. I just remember this guy and it's gonna be part of my story when I write it sometime this week. Just how good of a coach he has. Come on, he'd coach up Hammer, Schmidt, all these dudes he has. Yeah, just just good players, good players who became even better players, right right, absolutely, And that was that's and that was what was great about about a Qina. We're gonna we we we talked to

him for quite a while during this thing today. We're gonna play all that tomorrow because he got into story time sometimes with Dick Tomy some talking about you know, his time in Texas where they you know, one a National Championship and Rose Bowl and he had two DARP Award winners and just uh, he went He went into some some really great stories about his time here, why he's here, why he's back. Uh and uh, well we'll do some

of that because we didn't feel like we could squeeze it in today. So so, um, I don't know if you asked this, asked him this taking us a whole old hughes. You might know he's like sixty seven. He's sixty seven. Yeah, yeah, still a lot of energy. Well we were laughing because I because we're standing there talking with him and him and uh and Brian Jefferson. I said, I said, I said, Dwayne, I say, you and I look we look gold. He said,

this guy right here pointed Bran Jeffs said, he doesn't. He looks like he did last time you were here. No, I talked about all of that. What we laughed about that. So I'm looking forward to writing the story because it's a story that writes itself. He's just one of those guys. All right, let's take our break. We're gonna come back. We've got some stuff from Jimmy Doherty talking about the quarterback situation Arizon, not just data Delora, but uh, the other quarterbacks, as well as some more

stuff Michael Wiley. There's a guy that people are talking about running back and the expectations for him. So more stuff from Arizona Football me today. So we'll stick around. It's Steve and Jakin Summits. This is I Am a book on Fox Sports fourteen, the Welcome back to on the Ball. Here in Fox Sports fourteen fifty, I'm Steve Rivera with Jackinsaws. We're trying to reach Brian. He wanted to take a nap, so I think he's taken a nap.

Yeah, Brian Peterson from Easy Desertswarm dot Com. It's supposed to join us. But since we're let me see if I get ahold of trying to rouse him, we'll we'll keep the discussion going. Um uh, you know, Arizona fortunately has the quarterback. I guess that gives you makes you believe that a lot of things is going to revolve around him and he's got to he's

got to be he's got to play well for Arizona would be good. So, um, we talked to Jimmy Doherty, the quarterback coach, and just to his thoughts on Jaden de Laura and um, you know, sort of the expectations of him and also having the responsibility of kind of you know, being the face of the team and leading the team. So, uh, here's here's what uh what care what um uh uh Jimmy Doherty had to say about Jaden de Laura. Um. I think no, it's in a great

spot, you know right now. I mean Braden just got here in the spring, you know, so he's still kind of gat he this is Jaden development, you know, on the field and off the field. Um. I think he's continuing on that process as a lot of us are. But it's a daily thing, you know. It's a daily thing where he's continuing to mature and grow up and do all the things that we want him to do in this program. And uh it's been probably them so far with that.

But like I said, it's a it's daily process. When you're the quarter starting quarterback of you know Power five team like Arison School like Arizona, do you talk to that player about just sort of the responsibilities that you carry on and off the fields. Yeah, of course. I mean a lot of times it's the head coach and the quarterback, you know, are the two faces of the program. Um so to speak, so uh and with you know, we always talk about the power that comes with it is also

the responsibility that comes with that position. Um, you know, so it's something every day that you have to accept. Uh, you know, I kind of say, hey, it's what you signed up for, right as a quarterback. It's you know, the good and the bad. You got to take it all, you know. And you know, for Jaden, like I said, and in all the quarterbacks, you know the understanding that that's what you've taken up by being a quarterback. At the University of Arizona,

we expect a lot out of those guys. We ask a lot out of them from a preparation standpoint, from a day to day just how they're going about their work, how they're going about their school work, they're going about their life us something that we talk about pretty much every day with them. Mike, he's a clip over. The clip is over. Okay, why were the three students here? The three students here? I'm like, you need to turn off my mind. It was yeah, my bad,

Jason. I shouldn't have doubted the une what you were doing. All right, we got we got Brian Peterson on the line. Uh, Colin. Brian was at me to day to day, so I wanted to get him as a guest to just get some of his impression. So so, Brian, real quick, we went through this at the beginning of our show, what our our impressions were. What was your main impression today? Um?

I think more than anything, just that it feels just like a regular program again and not one where there was so much uncertainty and instability for so long, and that it like previously felt like what are we doing here? And even the first two years under Jed Fish it's like, well, you know, is this really going to work? Like how is this work going? And now it's just it feels normal again. I guess if that makes any sense. So what was the last time it felt normal? I don't know,

maybe twenty seventeen. Yeah, d ch Rod's yeah, okay, So what were you most looking forward to today and did you accomplish it because you know, we had a lot of access. Uh. Yeah, it's just to kind of pick the brains of the coaches and players on more, to

pick out some some features to run during camp. Even though it's a weird situation because we're going to talk to all these coaches again during camp after practice a certain practices and some of these same players, it's not all of them are going to be available again, So you can't really ask too much about like how are you going to play or what role you're gonna because they haven't

been out there on the field yet. So this was more to kind of get an idea to what to know about them and how they're feelings looking forward to stuff and maybe why they came there and all that and getting some anecdotal information. But it's really more like a let's everybody just kind of say hello again and the first day back at camp kind of thing. So since since spring practice ended, you know, we obviously don't know what they've been doing

all summer. I mean, we know they've been working out all that stuff, but we don't see them, you know, all summer long. But um, thinking about where they were at the end of spring practice, or do you feel like there's any difference in expectations or difference in what you know, things that they got to work on, issues that they're going to have

whatever going into the fall. I mean, they've they've added some players since then from the portal, a couple more defensive linemen, some players in the secondary, which were necessary because you can never have too many of those, and it's nice to be in a situation for them where you don't just look at the roster and go, okay, these are going to be the guys that are probably starting, and well after that there's actually uncertainty because there's options.

It's not okay, well there's there's three linebackers on the roster, so those will be the guys that are going to play. You actually will have some position battles where you can have some decent backups and rotation and all that. So it's nice to see on that. It's also promising to see that Jordan Morgan is as far along as he is, so that you know, it looks very realistic that he would start the opener against an Au in a

month, So it's nice to see that. But beyond that, I mean, the summer for them was more about just staying in good shape, getting stronger. You can't really work on anything tactical. They'll they'll start installing that year and uh, you know, tweak their their system based on the personnel that they have and then who fits in it best. So who do you think is going to be the breakout guy? They might have two or you can listen too if you'd like, not named Jaden Delora well, he wouldn't

be a breakout because he already was pitching out last I don't. On the offensive side, I think, I mean, it's just kind of going to be the same as last year since you have so many good weaponds. Tanner McLaughlin was a breakout guy last year, and I expect him to have another good year. Mike Wiley just has shown how reliable and dependent dependable he is. The other receivers that are back, Cowing and McMillan are super strong.

M if montan Alimonious Craig, the transfer from Colorado that came in after spring practice. If he emerges as a really reliable third receiver, that would be

a great development. So would if the freshman offensive lineman that they slipped from Alabama in February, Raymond Polido, if he ends up starting on the offensive line, or at least playing a heavy rotation, that would be a really good indication of not only how well they've done at recruiting, but they're able to get these guys ready in only a few months because he was not part of spring football. On the defensive side, there's just so many newcomers,

and particularly ones who've been at other programs. If there's somebody that can really stand out on the offense that excuse me, the defensive line and become a real force, whether that be Taylor Upshaw from Michigan or Bill Norton from Georgia or Manoah from Ucla, any of those guys that'd be great. Justin Flow the linebacker at Oregon, if he could actually be the guy that he was supposed to be coming out of high school, that would be incredible for them

to have. You know, maybe that next Scooby Rights h Colin schooler, uh, you know, kind of all over the place linebacker would be great too. I have this I don't I don't want I got it today, but I just had this feeling that Michael Wiley it sort of holds the key to all of it because while Jade Delora you may throw the ball all over the field and for all these yards, you know, Michael, while I

think is gonna be a key. And then with the backups that they have there, Jonah Coleman h the transfer the kid they transferred in from last year. Um, I can't remember his name, but Williams. Yeah, I just feel like Wiley is by coming back when the next three year. He's a he's a year older. Talking to Scotty Graham today he talked about it and he's a graduate student. He's just thinking about thinking about football. A

lot of things out of the way. I feel like he could be somebody that could kind of really difference, to make a huge difference for this team if they can run there. Yeah, he said that he's getting his masters in football this year. Is how because he's graduated from Eller and be taking some graduate classes. But in this final year, it's it's about just he actually can focus. That he doesn't have so much on his plate b side

football that he can't think about it when he's away from the field. He can actually, you know, study it and work on it beyond practice and all that. And to think that he's done all this while feeling like he's had a lot on his plate and now he can be even more focused is very exciting to see. And what makes him stand out is just such a great ability not only to get the yards after contact when he's running the ball,

but being such a good pass catcher out of the backfield. He had thirty something catches last year, which no arisona running back had had in at least fifteen years. Yeah, the coach talked about that very heavily, so Brian, I'm sure what your impression was a fish three years ago when he was hired, But has your impression of him changed at all? What do you what's your impression of him now? I mean, there was definitely a lot of uncertainty, a lot of who is this guy kind of when when

it first came on. I'd like to joke that I think I pre wrote about nine or ten different stories for people that they would hire, and he was not one of them, which was frustrating from a journalistic standpoint. But every step of the way while he's he's always talked a good game, but so far he has backed it up about as good as you can for someone

who's never been a head coach, who's taken over a program. It was in the middle of a twenty game losing streak, and who has has all these lofty goals and so far they're I mean to be where they are in the third season. Yes, they haven't won a Bowl game or anything, but they're getting five star kids to commit there, they're getting notable transfers to show up, They're getting players to choose to stay for another year rather than

go into the NFL draft. And even if that, you know, someone like Wiley or someone like Cowing, they might not have gotten drafted or drafted high, but they would have probably had a chance to play the fact that they want to come back and do that again, all that point to to what you've done there, that they actually want to be part of this and not just use it as a means to an end. Yeah, that's all good points. So let me ask you a question. I don't think I've

ever asked you, but I've asked the kids this. And sorry, Brian, you're not a kid anymore. You're You're you a grad. You cover this team and you've done it for a while now. Has the luster of being a grad or worn off or I'm sure you kind of hope that they do well or what? What? What is it when you cover this team?

I don't know. I've I've lived in this town for almost thirty years now, and and you know, the U of A is just kind of it's part of the fabric of the community and generally everybody wants to see that program do well. When when it comes to covering the team, I mean that team doing well is better than a team doing poorly. But more than anything, you just want something that's interesting sometimes is fun. I mean we know that from the Sean Miller years that you know, that kept it interesting

at the very least. And it's been interesting. I mean, there was chaos and interestingness during the Kevin Sumlin era, but for the most part it was like, well, let's see, you know what color the tire fire is going to turn this time. But I mean, as far as being an alum and any of that, it's you know, it's cool to tell people, uh, you know, family and friends when I'm out hanging out away from doing this. Oh yeah, I went there and then. But

beyond that, I mean, it really wouldn't matter who I'm covering. Yeah, overall, I think that. I mean, there was sort of a

buzz today, didn't you think. Yeah? Yeah, it also it didn't hurt that any You have all this the uncertainty of conference realignment and everything going on as well, and the fact that Arizona is a team that is frankly wanted by two different conferences is a fun place to be in rather than being like, for instance, Oregon State putting out a statement last week that they're committed to the Pac twelve, when I don't think anybody really cared whether or

not they were committed to Pac twelve. That's not the case with Arizona. It's a it's a brand and it's a name and a athletic department that multiple leagues deal would would fit well with them, and that that kind of football is a part of that, you know. I mean, as much as people are pointing out, you know, Colorado going to the Big twelve has changed a lot of stuff. Their football program has a lot of buzz right now because of Beon Sanders, but they still haven't done anything about it.

So it is weird that that the Big twelve is picking up this program that isn't really that good in anything right now. So what are we making a road trip to fall Gallen? Oh gosh, well that could be this next year. But I mean we also may have the road trip to Orlando for you know, a random Tuesday night basketball game against UFC Central Florida. Yeah, no, that ain't happening. Chace will be on that one. Hey Brian, thanks, No, I ain't doing that either. Happiest place my

Streaming live I Mean I Heart Radio AM This is I on the Ball with Steve Ribera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to Why the Bar here Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Ja Ja Jason, and we've got our guys Jason here with us fourteen minutes to call us. If you'd like to call us,

just chime in. We're still going to do some clip right. We got a few more clips we want to play today. It looks like we're gonna have some stuff left over to tomorrow. But we were talking about the quarterbacks and well talk about Jane Delora. But now we want to play a clip where Jimmy Dorty, the quarterback coach, talks about the other quarterbacks and

the expectations for those guys. And you know, I brought up the idea of, you know, how do you manage expectations when you know you're in a time where a quarterback comes to school and doesn't start, he can leave. So there's a little bit of both of that in this response from Jimmy Dorty. Um, I think Noah's in a great spot, you know right

now. I mean Braden just got here in the spring, you know, so he's still kind of getting used to everything, but it'll be exciting to see him this fall camp, see the strides he's made over the summer. But Noah's in a great spot. You know, Noah's um done a great job up to this point in his career of putting himself in a great position. Very smart, very intelligent football player that has really good command of the offense. So excited to see what he can do this camp. But I

think he has a leg up right now in that spot. How do you manage expectations for quarterbacks like that? I mean, especially in the time where guys can come and go as a please. You've got three good, really good guys in camp, you got another one on the way. How do you manage what their expectations should be when they get here, but when they're working out with you? Kind Yeah, I mean that's a good question. I think you always got to focus on, you know, handling what you

can control. You know, do do what you can handle your own self, you know, go about your process and don't worry about looking at other guys or trying to size yourself up against the other quarterbacks or whatnot. Just focus on going out there and playing really good football, you know, executing the one play at the time. Mentality going out there and doing that and if you do that, you're gonna play good and good things are gonna happen.

Okay, I'm gonna probably use some of that my story on Dolora down the Road. I mean, one thing that wasn't brought up was the was this situation legal situation kind of to ask not to ask, right? And I just people didn't, I know I didn't. We kind of went there in a little way. Well you have that clip. You probably this a clip you're gonna hear where we talked about. And I asked him, you're probably were looking really forward to the to the season because you know it kind

of maybe gets your mind off. Yes, exactly, that's what I Yeah, you asked the question. I think I played the question. Here's what Da Doloran is saying. How much are you looking forward to the season just to kind of move forward and move forward? Oh? I'm excited, man, especially going in with this group of teams, this group of guys on this team. Um, I just feel like this is the closest team I've

ever been a part of. And that's no like shot to any other team I've been a part of, but I feel like everybody has the same goal in mind. Everybody has the same aspirations and everybody has the same um um dedication to work, and so I'm sure their support for you was been comforting too. Yeah, it makes sense. Yeah, No, they've been good. Um. You know, I had a meeting with the leadership guys, kind of talk to them about everything, um, and you know, they

kind of just related message to everybody else a lot for ourselves. Coach had already talked about just your responsibility on the field, but you know off the field as a leader on this team and all that kind of stuff. And there's other guys who do that as well. You know, you're the quarterback and you have to have that expectation. How do you deal with that or how does that sit with you? Um? No, it's it's a task I like. So to avoid everybody from going out, I had to come

over to my house, um and we just hang out my house. I got a PlayStation at an x ball because so we can have two systems run at the same time, or we'll just sit down listen to music, talk football. But I try to not really talk football off the field because we just do that so much, and we just talk about everybody's personal life and everything. So do you take are you Are you doing that because you pick that up from somebody else or is that just what feels right from you?

I would say it just feels right, you know, just to know that he's late at night and these guys are at my house rather than somewhere outside, you know what I mean. So, um, do you after having talked to him now because it's a person, does any different how you feel about him? Um? Well, I don't like what happened, right, I feel like you and I feel like but you know, I'm not. I'm not to the point of James who called in and said I'm not gonna

follow this team because of that, and I understand. Um, you know, look, he's been given a second chance, and so we can sit here and be pissed about it and fight about it and be upset about it or whatever. But he's been given a second chance. And so the question is, now, what do you do with that second chance? Right? If he screws up again, well then you know then not now we know who he is. If he doesn't screw up again, then you feel like, okay, the second chance he was worthy of that, And so,

um do I look at him differently. Yeah, I'm gonna say I do. Um, you know, just just in in a way that he's uh, he's he's done. He's done some stuff that you're not happy about. Right, He's done some stuff that that you feel like, you know, regardless of whether he pled guilty to a crime or didn't plead guilty to a crime or whatever, something happened, it was bad, there was a court case, it got settled, so there's something there, and you know you'd

rather that not be a part of his of his situation. Yeah, here of his character. Hi, you're on the R and I on the ball. How's it going today? What's up Ryan? Well, I'll hopefully were in the Big twelve by the end of the week, but I don't know if it'll happened that fast. But I want I wanted to comment on that Dolora thing. Yes, okay, Um, what do we don't know exactly what happened. Okay, but it went through the legal process, and you know, I'm I'm not real crazy about, you know, any thing that

would happen in that manner. I think it's terrible. But also in the same sense, if someone did something and it's been adjudicated. You need to go on with your life, and everybody deserves that chance. I And that's the thing. Now, I agree with that, So I'm not I'm not opposed to him being here. I don't know, Steve if if if you are um you know, but I do look at him differently, you know, Yeah, do you wish this hadn't happen? I wish this happen.

You hadn't happened for everybody too? Is you know, we can't say, you know, this guy doesn't deserve a chance to continue with his life after what what We don't know exactly what happened happened. You know, the thing was settled, u u joie, and the court agreed to the settlement, and you move on with life. It's like if anybody goes to jail, because they went to jail, doesn't mean they can't do anything else in the rest of their life, right, So, Brun, how big of a

fan are you football? You way? Football? Football? Not that much? So it doesn't impact you whether you're gonna watch the game, pull for the UVA or anything like that. Not at all, Okay, not at all. Okay. I would still be a fan equally as I am today as I prior to what I heard, what happened, or what we think happened. Yeah, I'm more of a I'm more of a basketball and baseball person. All right, Okay, well thank you Bran, Hey, Bryan,

thanks so much, Man, Thanks thanks for listening. Cool. Um, I want to play the clip I had a clip with Jacob Cowing just talking about you know, does he still feel pretty good about his decision to come back. Yeah, and so let's let's play the clip on on Cowing twenty six. We got these numbers just for those not there. I think just how I felt when I first made the decision. I want to come

back to make an impact with him like com in. Also, you know, spend and cherished my last year of college football with the guys that um, you know I was here with last year and try and really turn this program around. That's really one of my number one focus. It was just you know, kind of filled out my time here, not leave any time wasted on the table, and actually kind of just enjoy each and every moment that I have until you know the clock win's out. Can ask you what

what did you think when Dorian left? Um? Honestly, I mean I'm not. I don't think too much about that. I mean, he did what's best for him. I mean, at the end of the day, that's his that's his opinion, that's his mindset. That's cool. I mean we still got a old team that we got to focus on, and that's what my focus is, trying to get the team better each and every day and you know, try and get to that Pactol championship that everyone else on

this team. As far as it goes to asked coach Cummings about your your role as a veteran on this team and like that. I mean you've been around longer than you know all the other guys. Do you accept that role and what do you try to do with that? In terms? Yeah, I mean for me, I don't think I had to play a certain role. I think it's just if you can carry these certain characteristics as being a good teammate, um, not lying to your teammates, and always just be

responsible and accountable. Man. I think that that goes along for like a long ways instead of just being, you know, just playing a certain role. I think if you carry those certain characteristics along with your life, I think they even goes very far. In life. So let me guess here and in somebody that's light. Um, I would assume that he's your probably your favorite player this year. No really, I'm gonna go Michael Wiley.

No no, no, no, that's swimming, Michael Jacob Yeah yeah, no, no, yeah, I'm I there's this piece of me that just think Michael Wiley is gonna go on. Yeah, that's what I meant to see you. I think I think he's gonna go on because one, you know, most of the players, you know, he would have used up his eligibility and left. So he's here another year older. He's probably pretty

he's not. He didn't come here to just slack and um, you know, just playing another year college football and just kind of give it a half assed effort. I think he's here to make a statement. He wants to be an NFL running back. As you said, he said he's majoring in football. He's here too to to you know, to get prepared for their an opportunity for a next step. I think physically he's he's got the capability to do that from a from a physical stampoint. Actually, let's play this

clip from from uh uh Scotty Graham number nineteen. James talking about Michael Wiley here everything from leadership, um, looking forward to growing and push him hard this year. I hard an never pushed before. He knows that, Um, he's gonna be really good and when a problem. Mike is a human v he's really development to a leader, um, not just a vocal leader. Was sentenced. He's by an example, you know, in a weight

room and obviously academically graduated already, which is something that's really cool. You know, he's in grad school. So for him, he's putting himself in a great position and have a great scene year to continue leading the team. And he's gonna leave legacy that you probably one of the better players that have played it. And he got Trug obviously and a couple other guys that are, but Mike's never really gotten that statistics that we share time and and he's

wanted to one of selfless people that I know. I got a good room man. I'm excited about my room. So we can have a guy like that. But then you've also got some other guys who can who can do really well. How do you manage expectations for those guys? How do you you know? How how did they understand what you're trying to do? What stars day one running back strong together when everybody is running play to do something that's gonna help us. Um you know, Speedy Hit was developing a role

last year and then he got banged up. You know, Jonah played when Mike was banged up. DJ played, So they all know they're gonna get an opportunity. And the last thing you do us, you know, not be prepared. And that's the whole thing for me is make sure you're prepared because you never know when and how your opportunities are gonna come. One of the questions I was asked for coach for Carol is that it seems like Michael's

kind of been to the radar a little bit. You know, mean, he had he had this huge game again, say it's Hugh last you know, at the end of last year. But he's still kind of you know, he's not getting maybe some of the preseason attention that probably he deserves. How do you why do you think that isn't how do you deal with that or feel feel about it or I don't care about I don't deal with it. Mike, while he was fine, he's a hell of a football player,

I know. All right. So so I don't know how you feel about Scotty Graham, but he's impressive as all. He really is. I mean, he's got an NFL background, Yeah, well state guy. You know, I follow him on social media. He's always got motivational stuff to

say. Um, and I could see that. I could see that Scotty Graham might have been a reason why Michael Wild he decided to come back because he felt like he's going to get coached by a guy who's playing in the NFL, um who knows the ropes and is going to help him get there. And because of that, I think Michael Wiley is gonna be really really damn good this year. And you know, he's got guys to back him

up. He doesn't have to be in there. And every play he goes on to say, later in this thing and we got to get out of here that, you know. I asked him why what makes him an NFL running backs? Asked him, is he an evil rummack? He said, yeah, he is, he said, because he can do everything right. He can block, he can catch, he can run, you know, he can run routes. You can put him as a wide receiver. Um,

he'll do everything. There'sn't there isn't any thing that he's got any situation where he's got to be the guy that comes off the field because he can. He's good for every situation. Right. And that's when I asked, because I kind of sense that's what we gotta go that he was probably your

favorite player this year. My favorite player was not there today. Uh, team, which I think obviously those two are gonna have fantastic years if they don't get right and to hear to hear, uh Brendon Carroll say, the team. Mack has changed his body. And I thought he had a pretty good body already because he was long and and and fast. We'll see how that goes. Hey, we'll do some more this tomorrow. We've got a lot of clips left for tomorrow, including storytimeing from Duayne Aquina. We'll do

all that. Nothing coming out of the Border Regions meetings, we've got nothing for you on that, but baby, by tomorrow we'll have something. So we're out here and we'll be back tomorrow
