This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jagnzalis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen powered by Nova Insurance Services Ensure your most prized possessions Katz R two son in iHeart Radio Station. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Roba, He's Jagonzas. Got our guy Jason in today with us for the first fourteen minutes. For the next hour or so, we're gonna talk about you a football.
Oh yeah, you know, any day, a lot of people out there talking to the media, a lot of a lot of characters, a lot of coaches. So we'll have fun with that. Um, you know, two and a half hours or whatever it was to two hours. Uh so we'll try to give you as much as we can. In the first hour, we're going to listen to some clips. Right, I was going to signal to you, h heading off the ball. You already bubbled it. Oh you know what if I've had the headphones on, you know,
playing these clips for two hours now? Um yeah, we we We've got We've got stuff from Jed Fish, we got both coordinators, Brandon Carroll, and Johnny NaNs, and a couple of players, a couple of assistant coaches, a lot to talk about, a lot of questions. Um, you know, here's what struck me about all of it. Yeah, I was
gonna ask you what was your biggest impression today. Struck me about all of it is that there they have the ability with without tongue in cheek or without stretching things to talk about depth, competitions, the number of guys they have, the improved talent um, and all these things that you just haven't been able to talk about for a while. You know. That's that's a good way to wrap it up in terms of what you were you were thinking about.
I had the same impressions. I guess I really didn't know what to say about my first impressions. I think I just like Jed Moore and I for all the reasons you said, because it's very obvious, and I wrote that really quick today. Is that one he hopes to fill the stadium in September. Whether that happens or not, we don't know, but but it's gonna be a big field, good story for the first month. Yeah, right, if they do really well and they could possibly get more be a
butts in the seats. Let's say let's say they go be They're gonna be an na, Okay, they're not. That's not gonna happen with about forty thousand people. Yeah, okay. Now let's say they go beat Mississippi State. Okay, okay, Now you've got a high forties maybe fifty thousand for the U tape game, right right, And then if they win that, now, who the hell knows what it's gonna they say, they go to Stanford, oh okay, and they could could possibly before, no, before
their next home game. They go to Stanford, then they come back with a huge game, gets Washington. Well there you Washington, game to go if they take care of business. But but again, what struck me more than anything was every coach was able to talk about having guys right the depth they're working with a lot of talk about how bodies have changed and they're bigger,
and they're stronger, and they're faster, all these things. Now, who knows what that really is gonna look like, but they all seem to feel pretty damn good about what they've got in front of him, and that that's what strikes me more than anything. Yeah, it's it's very apparent, um of the improvement of quality of people. Right. Uh, everything just seems so positive now, right, Um, and you know what, I'm rethinking, what's our beds our five and a half? Five and a half.
I'm going on, I've got over you. Yeah, I don't like my bed. It's another kid. It's another kid. But you know the only thing I was telling this to our guy from Phoenix, what's his name again, god By Leaps from Phoenix, Doug Heller, that I don't know. I think they're gonna you're gonna win the bet. But if they don't win, one of the organistat or watched the statement, like we've said, I think I have a good chance. But that's beside the point. I
liked these I like this team. Yeah, they could go five and seven and be ten times better than they were lasting without question. Actual he's got you going with a signal. Yeah. So let's let's play a Jeds intro. It's it's about three or four minute intro of you know, well how
we started because it was a fifteen minute press conference with Jed. We got to talk to the offensive coaches, then had a fifteen minute press conference with Johnny Nansen and then got to talk to the rest of the defensive coaches, then some players. But here's here's what Jed got on his mind and what he led with in the press conference. We got a lot of competition for the first time since I've been here. I walked out here the other day.
We had twenty four defensive linemen, twelve interior guys, twelve defensive ends. We've got over twenty five players over three hundred pounds on our team right now, which is completely different than when I walked in the door two years ago as a team, or the players on our team combined of game nine hundred and ninety four pounds, which is one saltwater crocodile. So that's what Dave. It's pretty nice to see the size of our team and the change
in our team. And then I I'd say the offseason with coach Owens and his strength staff, they've gotten faster, they've gotten stronger, and now they're ready to go out and compete when it comes to our team going into this season, We've talked about really two words, and it's earned. It earned the conversation. Earn what people are saying right now currently about you people are
beginning to talk about Arizona football in a different light. You've got to earn that you've got a show and prove it really that you're worth the conversation. We've had a tremendous success on the recruiting trail, both in the last two years and currently, and I would say that now it's time for the guys that are going into their sophomore year to really take a big step, Guys that transferred in to take a really big step, and guys that came here
this past year. We're accounting on freshmen again and transfers again to make a huge impact act in the success of our program. We also talk to our kids about you know, now you've learned a lot about the history of Arizona football, and you've met a lot of former players and former coaches and alumni that really bleed Arizona football on the red and blue, and you got to
earn the honor to wear that jersey and that logo means something. We spent a lot of time watching this past year talking about the redeem team and Coach k and Coach Beheim and some of the messages that they've given to supporting that logo and respecting that logo, and we're trying to do the same thing here. But in the end, well, it's a matter of this team, the team of twenty three, a lot of new faces on defense, a lot of returning faces on offense, and together, I think we have a
chance to have a very successful season. And as long as we stay healthy, as long as we continue to be a connected and committed football team, and as long as we understand that you got to pay the price and out work your opponent every single day. Yeah. Uh, I like what he said, the what's it like to earn it? That one? Improve it? Earn it, improve it, right, yeah, because it was like, you can be happy about what you did last year in the big jump.
You took from one win to five wins. Ye say, all right, we're here. Well you're not. No, you're not. It was like by christ and do it. How does it feel to have arrived? And she laughed to push because she hadn't not arrived, right, And they haven't. Obviously they're better and improvement is the biggest thing, and they're much
improved. I was thinking about this because we talked about this all time, and I pooh pooh, it, not purposely, but but you've been here a long time and you you, like many others, are these big fans, right, and you guys always have hope. I always have hope. It's been a long time, so right, Oh no, over the last five years you've had little hope. Yeah, finally you have hope. Yeah, you know, and and you know, until you know, until I
did this show, you know, I was just a fan. So I wasn't going to media day, the press conference and stuff like that, so I didn't get this kind of information and get to talk to coaches and players and whatnot. But but I'll tell you being there today and watching the because you you can just tell from coaches do they feel good about whether they're at
or not. And these guys, every single one of them, is like, I am really glad I'm right here and I and you you feel that, you know, And then you hear players talking about, you know, how they feel about stuff, and you go, dang, there might be something going on. You're not. I don't know what it's where it's gonna wind up, But certainly today I got a really good feeling that something something's
brewing here. Um, how much longer it's going to take to get to where you feel like, Okay, this is a team that can compete, you know, at the at the at the top of the conference or whatever. But I feel like there's just a buzz within the program about how they feel sure sure going into this season't know until we see it, but LIMIT say something. I now, this is not part of the your your clips,
And I wanted to say this because I mean it um. The one thing that I really came away with very impressed with and glad that I was there was a Keena being there to talk to. I had a little about two minutes by myself with him, and you know, he was happy to see you because of the good old days and having to see me. And we talked and just how how perfect his life is. And I not because
he's in two Sons, but two songs home for him. He's been all these places, he said, And he said, and part of the story is his wife Donna, who who who? They left Stanford right, didn't get renewed or whatever, and they were gonna go to Paris, uh to go coach and and two songs the other option. They chose two song over Paris, And I thinking how does this work? But you know, the wife has a big say in it, you know, and that's where the wife wanted to go. Two songs. Absolutely, Yeah, we're gonna We've
got a Keno was Italian stories. We're gonna play that. I don't know they we're gonna be able to play that stuff today? Well, we'll play it tomorrow. But it was It was a fun conversation there with some stories. I got to talk to him cheered up for a bit. Yeah, yeah, he cheered up for a bit. Oh because the heisman not to the Thorpe Award. Yeah, we'll talk about yeah. But I got to talk to him on the side with you know, Brian Jefferies and three of
us were commiserating about being around here in the eighties. Yeah. It was fun. It was fun. It was like an old friend talking. All right, Um fish Gott got the idea of year this is year three? Uh, was brought up in kay, Now this is a year that you you know, what are you where you think you should be in year three? That was my question. I think I said, you know your two
you've been pretty good. Put us three years. Here's what he said about this being a year three and where he thinks he is in terms of what his big plan was. I remember saying this at the very first bear down Friday. I quoted lud Olsen and I said that get your tickets now, because in three years from now, hopefully we'll be sold out. Hopefully we're getting close to that. It's been certainly a build. We talked about it
the first year of laying the foundation. We called it year zero. We talked last year about the build and what we were trying to get accomplished. And now this year, I believe we're at a place where we have a good football team and we're excited about the six home games, and we want to sell out September, and we want all three home games in September to be sold out and then we'll figure it out from there. We feel like we've made a great impact in the state when it comes to recruiting. People
want to stay at home, people want to come here. The state of Arizona, for the first time in a very long time, wants to send their players in state to the University of Arizona. That's huge. So we've made the strides we've wanted to make so far, but we recognize we still have a long way to go on being able to get to a bowl game, be compete for a championship, and see, you know, be a
top twenty five team. But that is our goal and that is our plan moving forward, and as we continue to bring in better players every single year, I think we're going to get that done. Yeah, how can you argue against that? Right that that that those first two pieces were sort of his state of the program, uh comments. He talked about a lot of stuff maybe after we've gone through some of the team stuff. He had some interesting stuff to say about realignment, about recruiting in this with all this,
you know, as a as a sort of a backdrop to everything. Some of the other coaches talked about it as well. Thoughts on it. Yeah, he was like, okay, tell us where to go. I feel the same way he said, we're gonna play twelve games this year, We're gonna play twelve games next year. It's true. Yeah, but um, you know, one of the keys this year is going to be Jordan Morgan, right, guys coming you know, he's he's considered a first round draft
pick. He's coming off of an injury and uh a knee entry. Um, both both the Brendan Carroll and Jedfish talked about how important he is, but then also how they got to manage him. So here's what the Jet had to say about did Jordan Morgan? I would say he's one hundred percent, but he won't receive one hundred percent of the reps. So what we'll
do is we'll go through a four week program. We met with our athletic training department yesterday, our strength coach, Coach Carroll, and myself and we went through a plan for him over the course of the next twenty eight days to thirty four days and exactly how we're gonna get him ready to go. So he'll be on a will monitor every rep, will monitor where he is physically. We know they'll be opportunities back and forth where we're gonna sit him
one day a practice maybe and then practice him another day. But regarding if he's been fully cleared for contact and fully cleared for practice, the answers, yes, you know. This is one of those areas both the offensive end defensive lines is one of the areas where historically Arizona just been short on guys and it just sounds like they got lots of guys that they're that they're feel
good about, right, Yeah, no question. I remember with Moto was here doing the team maybe four or five years ago, maybe it was in Stoop's time, maybe a little. And we know we've seen the athletes forever, right right, and they never grabbed those guys that are huge, that are huge and just really your your airport team, right, you don't see very men of many of that. And then they saw you saw him and they were, hey, maybe they're making an impact making him because you're bigger,
looks bigger. And that went away. Now apparently they got an alligator on the team. Yeah, because they have so much more size, right right, And I just think that that's gonna that's gonna be a big key because you know, the depth issue is one you know Arizona where it is on the pecking order of programs. Yeah, that's where depth is, where they is where they fall short. You get you don't have enough. Yeah, it's funny though, you know, listen to to a we got we
Gotta go, No, we don't know. So Keena and I love this philosophy because it's just that's what I believe in. He talked about the Desert's Horn area. Listen, a bunch of dudes, just a bunch of dudes that we know. But at the time, we're just dudes. They were not four stars, five stars. They coached them up, They tourn them into dogs, They taught them, tourn them into dogs, and they coached them up and they gave up what thirty one yards a game and became this
team. And he says, that's just what we want to do, that's what we tried to do. And I'm thinking, Okay, you can do it with with dudes like we're three stars, to see what happens when they have better talent, you know, And that's it's more of a mentality, Jason, It's more of a mentality. You could be a you could be a tough dude as an athlete, but if you don't have it in you, okay, but if you're just a mean dog. Yeah, mindset is
everything if you don't have that mindset exactly exactly. So now they have to do that, yeah, exactly, and they that they feel like they have those guys right right right, really do Let's go and take a break. We'ere and come back. We'll go with some more of Jetfish's stuff you talked about, you know his defensive line. The newcomers Brendan Carroll and h and Johnny Nansen both has some stuff. So we'll take a couple of minutes and
we'll be back with more of Arizona Football Media Day. Steve, He's Jay Jason went us today fifteen minutes. If you'd like to join the conversation, give us a call five two earld four one six seventy four forty. We'd like to hear from you about anything football. Yeah, you know we're we haven't mentioned it, but we're aware of all the realignment stuff that's been going on. Um, there was a PAC twalve meeting today and some stuff has leaked out about what the what the PAC twalve media deal
is and we'll get to that. UM. And then there's a regents meeting that's supposed to sport airs on a border. Regents meeting that's supposed to start in ten minutes. It's an executive session, so it's not a public discussion of anything, but obviously you know it's got to be about this, so we don't know if we'll get something out of that. But uh, you know we're not ignoring that. Plus a jet fish and you had some comments
about it. Uh and and you know some of the players and stuff, and there the players in the assistant coachure were kind of like, whatever, right, we'll end up end up. Jed had some stuff to say that, well, uh, we'll want to play for you when we get to that. But we are keeping an eye on that. So everybody, you have you have a queued up already, have qued we can if you want.
Yeah, because we are in you started the conversation. Let's go with all right, Well here's O. Well, Jed would just flat out ass you know what he thinks of all this realignment stuff. So here's what he said. Truthfully, I've given a lot more thought to our team and what we need to do to win games than I have about where we're gonna play in twenty twenty four and beyond. My focus has been on this season and
this team. And I recognize that people are putting, let's call it some added pressure that the University of Arizona will be the program that makes the final decision on what happens at the conference. I don't think that's the case. Um. I think that the decision was made by other programs to change the com rents, and now it's going to be a matter of the University of Arizona to decide what's best for Arizona. I would say stability is what's best.
So whatever we end up doing, I would imagine that that decision by our president is going to be solely based upon the stability of wherever we land, the conference that we land upon, and the financial benefit of the multimedia
rights of that conference. I'll say this, Athletics are very expensive, and to run sports programs is very expensive, and as the NCAA has continued to loosen rules when it comes to feeding players, when it comes to travel, when it comes to certain benefits, when it comes to athletic advanced academic bonuses call it if you hit a certain GPA through the Austin case or fifty nine eighty. All of those things go into making running an athletic department extremely expensive.
So clearly the multimedia rights aspect of this decision is going to be critical to the success of Arizona Athletics in the future. And then he was asked, well, let's play this other clip. He was asked about, you know, how are you dealing with recruits and whatnot, and then he was
also asked about what he thought about Colorado in their decision to believe. So let's let's play that and then we'll discuss all of what he said, Well, I would say right now, we've spoken to I had held a zoom call with every player's parent on our current roster, and I explained to them that we're gonna know something soon. We're in a position where people want us, and we're in a position where we're going to be successful with the multimedia
rights deal because we're not going to take a bad deal. So in the end, it's going to benefit well. I talked to our recruits, and I've told our recruits, yes, I understand that some programs might be telling you, you know, why would you go there if they don't know where they're going to be. I would say this, We're gonna be in a great spot and we're not going to even flinch about and neither are recruits.
Our recruits are excited about what could come if we were to remain in this conference and add players or ad teams, just like they'd be comfortable if we were to move to a different conference and change our time zones. So all of those are great options for us, and the most important thing is that Arizona football is in the right place at this moment in time, and we're building to something special. Colorado's decision, I wasn't surprised because it felt like
that was going on for the last three months. It seemed like that was where they wanted to be. It's where they felt most comfortable, and if that's what they decided to be. I think they've had a lot of success when they were in the Big twelve or Big eight, whenever they won the national championship, and it was probably good for them to get back there and good for them. So one of our listeners, texting metsa Jed just said they're leaving for the Big twelve pretty much, oh, you know, basically
any and he's right, right. But the funny thing that what he was saying is I'm thinking, either way, Arizona is gonna be fine. And that's what we've been saying, right. You know, people are worried, don't people worried? I mean, there's no I mean to be curious, you know, I want to know you. Look at you. You've been cured in a year because last year at this time you were like, who
I want to know? I want I'm dying. Well a year ago, okay, I was afraid that the that, however, fell out, that Arizona might be relegated right to to either like a Mountain West type, that they might get left behind if USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington State, you know, all went somewhere and we're let and what was left was a crap conference and that Arizona and ASU and you know, those teams that have kind of not been at the top of the top of the food shape football
wise, we're gonna be relegated somewhere when someone hit you in the head and think you were in corrals or No. I think it just developed over time that you got a sense that Arizona had some value. One, because that's basketball, and that's very clear right to because you know, Jay keeps saying it. You know, you can say Arizona's a brand. I'm like, are they really? But maybe they are? Yeah, I think it is.
It's it's like, I know, you're dating the really good looking woman, and then you forget how good looking she is, right, you think she's become that you can do better, No, that she's she you know she's really she's an incredible woman, but you forget how incredible she is because you're used to it every day. You can't see the force of right things. Kind of like we've gotten used to Arizona sort of being yeah, uh
yeah, well, but other people see it as well. The funny thing about it using your phrase, um, I've always thought an issue is this is a pretty nice place, a nice institution, But apparently it's not,
at least not to that extreme. But it's not as powerful as Arizona, right and and and it's weird because it's got the TV market, it's it's got a population, it's got a population, but it doesn't have a TV mark, right and it doesn't have a near blue blood basketball team or program or or president that gives gives a concern about what they're gonna do, right, So I think it's I think it's just very interesting that Arizona has emerged
and and you know, you keep hearing that on you know when with the national media talking about it that how did Arizona emerge as the next best best one to come out of the PAC twelve? Why is you know, why is it so hot or even Oregon in Washington right now or not? Yeah? Yeah, Well they're gonna go to a different destination I'm looking for. I'm looking. I'm more excited about it now when it when it does happen.
But given today's news with Kliakoff and the UH and the media situation, sound like it just looks like it just looks like last week when he did the PAC twelve media day and he says the longer will eat the better of the deal, he wasn't completely set My question because they apparently what's leaked out is that this is an Apple TV heavy deal and that the base money is not great, but that there's potential for more money by Apple TV getting more
subscribers because of Pac twelfth football. And I'm like, are you serious? You really? I mean, do you really think that there's people out there west east of saying New Mexico all right, who are gonna pay to see Pac twelf football? It's if they if think I lost my mind thinking why do you think that's gonna work. You couldn't even get Direct TV to take Packed twelf football. You couldn't get Direct Pac twelf football in its in its
lineup. And you think that's that Joe Schmo living over in North Carolina or New York or you know in the Midwest, is gonna say, yeah, I want to see I'm gonna pay extra money to pay, you know, at Pac twelve football because I got to see that. No, no, no, it's one of you talked about brand. The brand. I think a lot of it has to do with basketball obviously, and Jed dogs that without acknowledging it because it is a brand, and um, we'll see.
I think I think after today's meeting, who it's gonna be now three thirty? Uh we won't get any information, but I think by the end of the week we will, Yeah, because because come on, if you're a president and if you had some power and you got that information today from the pack twelve of you were saying, pack your bags, Junior, we're going, We're going. And I think they called the meeting. I'm just gonna read into something. I believe that that. You know, Robbie Robbins got
the deal yesterday. Okay, so I think he saw it yesterday and he said, schedule a meeting. Said we're gonna go hear the presentation, we're gonna go through the steps, we're gonna look at the numbers, we're gonna hear the schedule a meeting because we might have to do something. Yeah, that's what That's what I believe happened. And now I could be completely wrong or I could be completely right about that. Well, if we have them,
we have them on the show. It's some point in the near funeral, you'll ask that question, you know, the timing of it, right, because isn't it obvious? I mean, like Richard said, didn't Jed just say you were going to the battleby to me, Steve, Because here's here's another aspect, and this is maybe getting too far into the weeds in this. Okay, so this TV deal apparently relies on increasing subscribers for Apple TV. What about somebody like me. I'm already a subscriber to Apple TV?
Yeah? Am I in that headcount that they need to get more subscribers to get paid more? So? No? True, you're on your grandfathered in. How much does it cost? It's ten bucks a month? And I think Mike Luri Larie from the UFA was talking about, you know how many people would have to get to make this deal good Ton? Yeah,
like millions. Yeah, there's escalates for one million, three million, five Like, you're not gonna get millions of people who don't have Apple TV right now to get it because of the pactol Ye do they really think that? So it seems it seems ridiculous, but you know, I could be completely So you kids with no money going to school? Yeah, what do you pay for? Do you pay for me? No? So I kind of smiled when you kind of talked about it because there are so many other ways
to watch like sports. I'm not gonna pay ten dollars a month for Apple TV. They're like dozens of other ways I'm going to watch, like any other sports or whatever I want to watch. You know what I mean. Having to pay like a month was subsertion for it. So like people like East Coast North whatever, they're not gonna pay. They have to have some kind of attachment to it, right, And like I said, there are
other ways to get the access rather than paying for them. Yeah. Yeah, so I mean I got I got Apple TV, and I was you know, how often do you watch it? Not very often now, because um um ted Lasso is done. That's why I got it. The only reason somebody gave us a So ted Lasso is good for you. For ten somebody somebody gave us a subscription subscription and said, we're giving you the subscription that came with the little Bucks because we want you to watch ted Lasso.
And and and we we've kept you know, we've kept a subscription. And it's it's uh, I'm trying to look it up. I think I want to maybe it's more than maybe it's it might even be more than uh than than the ten bucks. It might be seventeen bucks or something wow, or even so you haven't paid for it. Yeah, yeah, So we kept, you know, it ran out and we've kept it and and but I don't, we don't. I don't. I watch it once in a while
when something comes on. If I if I'm looking for a movie to watch and I can't find a good one on on my other on my other uh my other things, then I, you know, then I watch it. But god, I don't know why I can't find out how much it is? Well, okay, it's seventeen bucks a month. Yeah, right, yeah, I'm not gonna work though. No, I don't know why you
would do that. Let's you really needed to. But you know, in two or three years, the ESPN is gonna be kind of a if you want it, you have to pay it on its own, right, But I already have a subscription. Do you get to ESPN two, to ESPN Plus? Okay? Not that is now that that is part of my my Comcast h service. I get, I get, I get ESPN, I get ESPN Plus, which means the stuff that's not on ESPN or ESPN two.
You know, I get that, you know, the early the early tea times for the golf tournaments, and you know subment, you know, I was able to watch the Miranda Miranda softball team that's playing in the in
the World Series. They were on ESPN plus stuff like that. If I don't know if I would pay for right now, you know, I because I get is ESPN and ESPN two and ESPN News and ESPN U and whatever, um and and I'm pretty sure that if somebody hadn't given us the Apple TV subscription, the gift subscription, we probably wouldn't have Apple TV right now. We got it strictly so we can watch Ted Last. So I thought
about killing it after Ted lastsall was done, but we just decided. And you have a bunch of other on your your Jason's not gonna pay seventeen bucks. No, you know you're gonna find a way to gravy train off somebody else or or just forget it or hope a friend. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so they're crazy to think that they're gonna get millions and millions of people to sign up. So what's we got to already take a break? Put on my curious question and we won't get there until we get there,
is do you if Arizona jumps and others the PAC twelve. I haven't said this yet, but it's gonna be done like like done, done, un done. Arizona leaves, I think Utah. If you said yesterday, If Arizona leaves, I think Utah. You go with them, and then Oregon and Washington go to the Big ten and then it's scraps. Had you said this, we talked to Bud Right and we talked to yesterday talking about had someone told you this ten years ago, you'd say, you're out of
your mind, because it all started with us. And I've never think, never would have thought that was gonna had the key the cornerstones. Yeah, that's that's how started. All right, let's take our breakway and come back. We'll get back to uh, the Jet Fish and the coaches at Arizona Football Media. Steve Rivera and Jagn Salez they have their eye on the ball on two Suns Sports Stage yet. Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live on the iHeart Radio app. Hey, welcome back to are in the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jakin's as got a guy Jason, and today got about twelve minutes. Anybody want to call for the
last seconds before we go to the second hour? Ye? Did you want to clarify? So? Yes, I do, um I said the Apple An Apple TV subscription costs seventeen dollars. It's seven dollars six ninety nine a month. But I think that's still any of them out is a number of the people. Again, if you say I want to see PAC twelve and it's going to cost me some money, that's a financial commitment, whether it's
three dollars, five dollars, eight dollars, or twenty dollars. You know, people eat you know east of here don't give a crap about PAC twelve football. And that's what Direct TV saw and why they did not add you know, PAC twelve to their thing. The Direct TV lose anything by not having the PAC twelve. No, no, they did not. They were just fine it had been a benefit. They would have done it right.
They would have done it right. They were long time ago, and so you know, it just gets to the point that that we've made over and over that you know, the PAC twel is just kind of out here on almost on an island, always has been, and you know, you're just not going to get somebody in New York to subscribe to something, to pay
for something to watch you know, Arizona play Oregon or whatever. They're just not Yeah, you know, maybe a basketball conference you know, a basketball centric area like North Carolina might want to see, you know, be able to see Arizona play or and or whatever and Gonzaga what but they're not. And I just this this idea, you know, I'm reading Pete Hamil's story.
They're saying that that the the amount of the amount of money paid to the schools from on the deal quote would incrementally improve, potentially be competitive with its peers in the Big twelve and acc down the road quote, provided certain subscription numbers are met. Forget it, because like when you buy something, being sure to read the small press. If the PAC twalve falls for that, what's not the PAC twal If a school falls for that, then they
get whatever they deserve. And how long does that mean, you know, down the road or what do you say? Potentially blah blah blah, what does that mean? There's you know, I saw a thing that said that they're just some uh some some tears right here tis right, the tears that may or may not ever be No. Arizona has got to get on where they're gonna be on Fox, they're gonna be on ESPN, and and you know, and move on and just go do that it provides certainty and a
word that everybody keeps using stabuildings. Yeah, all right, let's go back to jet Fish. So we've been talking about how they've got um. They seem to have depth. Everybody talks about the depth that they have, the the the changes in size and whatnot. Here's jet Fish talking about what he thinks of his of his defensive line and uh and you know, just talking about the numbers, the amount of depth we have at the D line.
It really makes for some great camp battles and to see, you know, what's the rotation gonna look like, what's it gonna look like with the four to six interior d Lineman. We brought Ceo in from Indiana, Tyler and from UCLA. Uh Keanu Milto just got here yesterday. From Juco. We've gotten um and then we have Jacob Conico. We have Tie Tie, so
we've got all those guys competing. Bill Norton in here from Georgia. And then when you look at the defensive inside, you know, not only do you have Upshan Patu who transferred him from calam Michigan, you know, but then you also have the young guys Isaiah Ward and Duce Davis and Duce Lane that are all making impacts. So I think it was a big benefit for
us to play freshman last year. I think a lot of us struggled through some of the tougher days or nights defensively when you're playing five or six freshmen. But now I believe we're going to reap some of the benefits of their experience. Um. Maybe I didn't pay attention Tom closely enough, but those are some big schools that these guys have come from. This is this is
a totally different Arizona team. You remember back when Anthony Smith game from Alabama back in eighty eight or whatever, and you're thinking, that's been really interesting, and you know, just the quality of players are just amazing. Right, Um, we want to I want to follow up with a clip by Brandon Caroll on that, but we've got to call her on the lane, James on like, James, how are you doing pretty good? And how are you guys doing pretty good? But we've heard from you. What's up?
That's been a little bit. What's going on? What you got on your mind? Yeah, I just want to say it looks like the UVA programs going in the right direction. You know, I'm really excited for the team and everything. Um it looks like Fishes bringing in some great talent and everything, and just unfortunately I'm not going to be able to celebrate any of their success this year going forward. You're still upset about Jade Delora. Yeah, I just think it's not appropriate, and you know, I think there's
class comes before winning and doing it the right way. And I don't know if you guys saw it, but in the paper someone did editorial about it and kind of talked about how some of the stuff is being said is kind of sliding the truth under it by kind of rewarding things on what happened in the scenario. Right, So did you see that? I didn't see that. I didn't see that either, but I hear you, James, and I you know, I know there's people out there who feel like Arizona didn't
do the right thing there. But you know, because you know, it's fifty fifties, you know, this is kind of a fifty fifty scenario. Although there was a juvenile case and then he did subtle in court and civilly, but let's just say fifty percent he didn't do it. And you know, he should get a second chance. But the other fifty percent is he did do it, and you of a is letting this person on the team is I just can't believe it. So, James, we know that you're
a big women's basketball follow where you follow them to the final four. I think, are you a season ticket holder for football? I you know, I've been playing a case by case, year by year. You know, lately, when someone came, I did buy season tickets. And then when he wasn't paying attention to the program at all, I stopped the buying season tickets. Um, I did have season tickets the first two years at Fish.
It's been head coach. I went to by U, I went to the UCLA or went to the game in Vegas, and I like to support the team, but you know, this is a huge misstep and I just can't support a program like that. You're not alone, You're not You're not a week, you know, and you have to respect that. So and if it was if this quarterback with the ASU, I totally understand it. He could be a four year starter and I totally understand it. But I
thought we had different standards. Yeah, okay, appreciate that, man. Thank you guys, so you're gonna follow it up. Yeah. So Brandon Carroll had had some interesting stuff talking about the work that these guys did in the off season and how he thinks that really sets up for you know, what they're doing, because he's he's an offensive line coach. So here's what he had to say about all of that the offseason program. A couple of times I got to be around it. Um, you know, after after
we got done with our June session. UM, it's just a joy to see these guys working and battling together. Um. Everyone's pushing each other in the right way. UM. Great competition, They're enjoying each other's company, they're enjoying getting better together. UM. We can't ask for anything more than what they gave us the summer. It's a fantastic offseason. UM. So
it's our job just not mess it up. Tetsaroa looks fantastic. Um. Just seeing him in this uh, in this last workout, Um, he's absolutely changed his body and his his framework from when he first got here. UM. So really excited to see that. Um, you know, we put the pads on. He stood out immensely. So many of the guys have changed their body in this offseason again after having a great offseason last time.
Um so, I don't know, there's a ton of them. These guys have done great and he mentioned the McMillan, but I just wanted to play the part about how he just said they kept talking about how guys have changed their body, from Michael Wiley to uh, you know, McMillan to you know, uh, Jaden Delores put on some weight, the lineman, you know he mentioned I think in that earlier ship that note they put on nine hundred ninety some pounds of weight, you know, team wide, which
is crazy. And yeah, you can put on weight and it might not be good weight, but you know it sounds like this, you know this uh this uh Tyler owns the the strength guy that they got from Alabama. Is it sounds like he's doing a job. Now we're gonna see these guys on the field. We don't get to see him till Friday because practice for the media's and open it until Friday. But really we don't get to go
tomorrow or no, oh, thank you very much, Jed. I thought tomorrow was the first day we really oh, Friday, Friday is the first practice that's open, that's open to media and the public. You just made my day. I pay attention to the wake up tomorrow. I'm happy to do that for you. M Jed was talking talked about the uh, you know what, what he's seen of the newcomers, and so I'll just we'll just let him play that because he's got a lot of you guys coming in
as well. It's challenging because the guys that arrived, they arrived June first. Then they're trying to get acclimated, and then we took some time office coaches, and then we came back and then they took some time off before training camp, so there's not been much interaction. I would say. The guys that stood out to me Polido. You know, Polido got here and looks the part. You know, he walks on the field. He's all of six six sixty seven, he's all of three hundred and twenty five pounds
strong. Keanu just got here, but I walked out on the field for a walk through and I was like, Wow, that's a big boy. So that's gonna be a huge advantage for us. Carlos Wilson, he's another one that wasn't didn't participate in spring. He showed up and very explosive slot receiver. That was a great get for us at the very end of recruiting, getting him something that was committed to Utah for a long time to get
him to join our program. So those guys are the guys that initially have stood out to me, and then for the most part, we're fortunate that our administration and our university has allowed us to bring and I think it was fifteen players in January, so we had a pretty good feel or whatever the exact number was, but in the teams of players that arrived, whether that be through high school recruiting or through the portal, so we were able to
get a lot of those guys in spring ball. Devin Hyatt's another one. I know. He got here in March first, so he was here for about or March fifteenth. He was here for about a week and then we started spring ball. He's had a tremendous offseason. He's up to close to one hundred and ninety pounds. So his brother hit twenty four miles per hour at Giants training camp yesterday, So I'm challenging him to do the same that would be nice. But so he's gonna be a nice ad for us at
the wide receiver position as well. There's so many great, so many great positive things going on in terms of better players. Yeah, you just and that's the thing that I think that's the running theme is that they just got more guys. And you know, he talked about the biggest most competitive position
is going to be the safeties. He said that, you know, and they talked to Chuck season they got they got five six seven guys Cecil said, could start you know for those positions in the in the defensive backfield. And you know, when you're in a position like that, you can't help but be better one because the competition makes you better. But too you've just got more guys who are better and if somebody falls out, another guy can
step in. So I you know that again, to me, that's the running theme of what's going on with this uh, with this camp, just that the feeling like that in year three, they've built up the talent where they feel like they can you know, they can do some things. Um and you know, well we'll play we'll play a clip about the quarterbacks. Right, They've got you know, four quarterbacks in camp. They got another one on the way, you know, the kid from me who had originally
uh um committed to Mississippi. You know, I asked, Jimmy Darty said, how do you manage having a bunch of good quarterbacks and their expectations that every one of those guys thinks that they want that they should be able to come here and start. Sure, So we'll get into all of that here in a minute, but those were pretty much Jed's comments uh in his in
his portion of the press conference. So we'll play some stuff from from the other coaches, and then we've got some stuff from Jacob, Jacob Cowing and Jade Delora. So let's take our break be back. We're still going to be breaking news with Jason, so stick around.
