This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and jaken Zalis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen powered by Nova Insurance Services Ensure your most Prized Possessions, Katie z R Two said at iHeart Radio Station, play good afternoon, Everybody, Welcome to Why on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera alongside partner Jaken Zois. It's funny how things just puff up and kind of the show interrupts what you're doing. You know, Steve, we've been doing
this for nearly three years, right, we're going on three years. We have showing three months, yeah, next month. It's amazing to me that we are still surprised by three o'clock. By three o'clock that it's three o'clock on our shows about this started, we still like, oh, we gotta get going now. It's surprises. It's funny. It's funny. I think part of our charm, and we talk about this every now and again, is how we kind of add live a lot of craft that we do.
We had everything pretty much, which is kind of cool. I think we don't script anything or do anything. We'll have subjects that we talked about. Uh, and that's kind of just the back and proNT that we have. If we could just have a beer or two, that would be even better, can you imagine? Because that's kind of how we should be, you know, Yeah, just a couple of guys if we smoked a cigar. Hey, you know remember that time? Remember that time? Yeah? You
know we think we do? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, probably are drunk talking right exactly what do you say? He didn't pronounce that? Hey, so I'm reading hate me and this is why I'm going to hell. This is what I'm going to hell. I read Facebook quay too much and people commenting on stuff. I'm gonna see if I can find that one I read to you. It was what did I tell you? I found it somewhere
right. It was about a complaining about h He was surprised about everyzone and losing out to recruits because of it's a number one program or well world program, probability everything history, right, uh, the style of play. But he missed missed one thing. Money. Money? Yeah, how'd you lis a guy to Alabama? Money? How did you a guy who can zney money? And guess what? That's the New World Age? Okay? So they so I asked you what about this topic? And this week kind of
discussed this maybe for five seconds. People, if you were the commissioner of the team, how would you fix things? How would you fix things? Is it fixable? Oh? God? You know, um, it's it's hard to know because in some cases money is a big deal, but in some cases it might not be right. It might not all be about the money. But certainly it's more about the money than it used to be.
Sure when it was even last year, then it's six months ago. When you see how how this has developed over the last couple of years, that you know, they're just this assumption. You'r Arizona should be able to get whoever you want. But if Arizona doesn't have, you know, a half a million dollars or two hundred thousand dollars to say here you go, kid, they might not get that guy. And you know when you when you read me that text message or that that Facebook posted, a person saying,
how does Arizona lose to lose a player to Alabama? What is the one thing that Alabama has at Arizona does not money? Money? Money and a rising program and a program that's in the in the news right, Why why is it rising? Right? Here's the right, right, No, of course, because they're probably getting more money. It's got a football program that's bringing in a lot of money, and and and isn't the what did the former a D say? Athletics is the ports of the of the front parts
of the of the school of the school. So and they're doing pretty well. Here's the here's the eleve mentioned the guy's name. Because I don't need to astounding to discover that Arizona basketball is unable to attract top talent from the transfer portal given their national ranking, loyal family base, let me take that first line, please please, okay, we can breaking down. Unable to attract top talent from the transfer portal? How do you know that? Right?
Right? And they got they got they got a couple of pretty good guys last year. Tom and Tommy is out there recruiting. How do you know that he's not attracting top talent? You don't know that until you know what the team looks like, until they say this is our team. How do you know that given their national ranking? Okay, okay, okay,
top still top program, loyal fan base. Let's have questions. I have questions about the fan base of what it's become over the last especially these last two years, where Tommy has come in here and done everything you've asked him to do short of getting to the final four, and yet all we hear is the complaining right to the point where I'm gonna just say it, and I believe this happened. They ran a point guard out of town. It was pretty good. It was. I think it's partially that money and money,
right, money, because but what he loved. But you know, if he really loved it here would if Kirt Creasa would have stayed here, right, I don't need this be yeah, yeah, you know you couldn't have bought him out of sure like to go to West freaking Virginia okay, okay, so iconic arena okay, and a fast paced style of play okay, they want to play that, no question about that. But no mention of nil, no mention of money, no mention of that. And to
me, that's the number one thing. He buried the lead. In fact, he didn't even put the lead in there. One would think that Arizona is a coveted destination. However, the opposite seems to be true with the likes of Alabama being chosen over Arizona. What is the problem. First of all, the opposite is not true. Arizona is still a top program that players want to play for. But again, the factor that has entered into this now is the money. So there was twenty eight likes or dislikes,
laughs or whatever, one hundred and fifty four comments. And I've said this to you a few times. I spoke to some people today. If one hundred and fifty four people commented or their comments, put ten dollars every time you comment in there that you're bitching or whatever, that's gonna be what one thousand and fifty fifty's to the add that to the nil money? Right, give them that money and not to help solve some problems. For how many of those people did zero? I would? I would if so, five
percent, if that. But if you're going to be part of the solution, part of what you think you have a solution, then be part of the solution. But don't don't say, don't question, and then not have an idea how to fix it, right right? Yeah? You know? And that and that's kind of the problem that I had with a lot of the comments been made both by the public and some of the media in this
town saying, you know, Tommy can't recruit anymore. You have to question his ability to recruit if he can't get the kid who went to Gonzaga, right, Yeah, you have to question what is Arizona have to offer anymore. If it doesn't have the money to offer a kid like that, you're not gonna get them. You know, if if all things are equal, and one school is offering a whole bunch of money at that another one isn't. They're taking the money because a lot of these kids realize I've got to
get my money now because I may not get to the NBA. So if I can make six figures at a school, you don't help me do whatever I want to do when I get out of school, I'm gonna take that.
It's it's ridiculous. Yeah, And to anybody's point, if you're gonna be to anybody's pointing, to my point, if you want to help help, if you have any answers, suggest yeah, but I doubt if you do, Yeah, don't stand there and bitch if you don't have a solution, solution or just a suggestion, and what it is it's gonna come down to money. It's like the good looking do that high school and saying, the girls aren't asking me, they're not following me anymore. What the hell
happened? Maybe you're just a jerk. You smell back. You don't realize it. I you know, Steve, I think I think what we're looking at though, is that this is this is going to continue to get more and more frustrating. Oh sure, people don't take into account all the factors that are now affecting recruiting players staying you know, I mean like when those when those three guys went to USC. Mhmm, you're not okay, what do you What more do you want? You're starting at a major college program.
What more do you want? Well, I want to go to USC where not only am I a bigger and better program, they've got money to give me. Well I'll even go before that, which is a great point of yours softball, right to the best women's softball players on this team, right right both to where you see why, Oh it's a better program. Yeah, and it has been, it has been, and it is right now. Would you blame them? You know, I don't. It's just
the way of the world man way of the world. It's while while so many people have been slow, I've been quick to criticize and complain, they've been slow to understand how much it's changed. Without question, and it changed like boom overnight. It wasn't like a gradual It was a boom like in the last couple of years. And then and then maybe Arizona was a little late to the dance. But the thing is, I know that I know about Arizona. I could be talking. I don't know about other schools because
I'm just not covering that team. They could have been late to the answer. I know they're working their butt off to try to catch up, right or trying to generate what they can. We had uh the assistant, we had Adam Adam Lazarus, who's they're doing a trying to do a great job specific for basketball. And then the wilbur and Wilma there's they have technical So if you want to help, there's your avenue. Right, you're the fan in the room, like I told them, the sporting I'm the guy who's
kind of just observer. But it needs it needs to happen. It just does well. It's it's a whole it's a whole other level of support that fans have to engage in if they want their programs to get better. And if they don't, you're gonna you are gonna fall behind. Sure, And I think I think this kid going to Alabama, where he went to Alabama, he visited Alabama, had a visit scheduled to Arizona. Whatever they said at Alabama, he said, I'm in there's McDonald's bag under the seat right,
you know. And and when the issues that we have and that we don't know is how much how much money is it is in play for some of these Did they say, you know, you come here, you get two hundred thousand dollars? Is it a half a million dollars? Is it a million dollars? What is it? Right? Well, you don't know that. We've already discussed with you. And I can argue this when we have in the past in the pecking order of the PAC twelve, right,
Arizona falls smile six seven. That's just before all this. This is before all this. Now where does it land with this? It could have fallen not your two and then so you have to we have to make up. Yeah, And the funny thing is if I've heard, we hear stuff, right, do you hear stuff? I've heard that Arizona has lots of money to offer and has offered, has given players, certain players oodles of money. And then have also heard that's camp that cam'p beat your Arizona doesn't have
that kind of true, So we don't. We just don't, even probably from good sources both ways, ways, right right, I'm also talking about automobile things like that, that you know that basketball players would get in the court of a million dollars. Yeah, you know, I'm like, I can't believe that that's true, and then said it's not true, that's not happening. Yeah, you know, I think is a very reliable song. Yeah yeah, And I've heard the same, just the opposite. So so
it's, um, it's who do you believe? But I do know that this is a new world, and in order to conquer the new world, you have to have the Benjamin's you just you just do. And I say that because I'm twelve years old or like you or whatever. You start Benjamin's uh, and that's the only way you're gonna be able to compete. It's just lessen. We're gonna talk to uh, you know a later. Right. I don't know how much it impacts her life, but I'm sure it
does because we've talked to every coach. Right, yeah, so far, you know. I mean we had we had we oh, we had, we had Delaney Schnell. Right. She said, yeah, she's gotten some stuff. You know, she's got some endorsements and things like that. Yeah, and she's a you know, a swimmer, right, Olympic sport, right. I mean it's not a minor sport to her, but it's not football and it's not basket sure yet there there, there you go, there's
a you know, an Olympic athlete who's getting stuff. Well, at the beginning of all this, I thought it was gonna be like that, like she Okay, she's this fantastic diver, this swimmer, and she'll get whatever endorsement, Who give me a swimming product or whatever? She's not getting on some kind of nutrition. Okay, the involves that. And then they went
after their own stuff and they were able to get paid. But now it's like, well, the school's got to be involved kind of really, well, you got these collectives got to hand out money right in some form to keep it. Okay, they're gonna hand it. You're gonna give me x amount, and all I gotta do is go to a couple of community events
and I get paid two hundred dollars. Yeah. Well, and I thought it was gonna be like, you know, Dolora going out and and slinging of football, and now, hey, this is my football, the Delora football. More of the each individual going out and chasing their own stuff.
But it's beyond that. I would love to sit out with a Jade Delora A maybe not as Zulus, but you know, I don't know whoever comes up, you know, as you know Kylin Boswell, Yeah, you know, I'm there was a he posted something on social media gave me the impression that he's he's endorsing, like, uh, some sort of a closing line. You know, I'd like to get somebody like that. It's okay, what are you? Please tell me what you're getting. I'd like to know
how much you're worth, so that we have some context. We have no context on any of this. You know, you hear that Caleb Williams at USC is getting seven figures. You know why you worry about the NFL? Yeah, exactly, And That's what I'm saying. You know, so I we have no context to any of this. You know, we're guessing, and it's NAT's what's driving people crazy. And you know people make comments like that when they don't know of the story. Yeah right, I mean most
of what's happening. They don't know what's happening. We have no idea. Where's before it was like, okay, you know, we know Lewis Holmes got a you know, a brand new Hummer where you know, where did he get that from? But you know, you think of now where it's you know, so many people were getting stuff. How do you keep up with all? Yeah, and you don't and and how do you getting motivated? We talked about all this before, so it was just a new world.
We're gonna talk to UH coach of Laura Ardello hearing about five to six minutes, and then we're gonna have John Fino on the other side. We'll talk more about this because his son plays right, he plays at UCLA, right, but we're gonna talk mostly about the draft. We want to talk to him about the draft out being a first round draft pick. I want to know did he know he was gonna run that kind of stuff. All right, let's go and take our break. We'll be back, Arizona Women's
golf coach Laura And now it will be with us. They had a nice performance at the PAC twelve Championships last week and headed to the NC doable a

This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio while just surgery. I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to our on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jagon's ols. Now on the phone, we have Laura Iml, the Arizona women's golf coach. Coach, how
are you? I'm good, Thanks for having me. We always talk to you at this time of year. You're we have a great success rate at this time of year. Again, you guys did well in the in the tournament we did. We just got home from the Pact twelve Championship up in Phoenix, UM, this last week, and we're getting ready for the Ncuba
regional next week. So do you do you do you have any idea do you get a sense going in that Okay, we're playing well, we're not playing well because you know, I mean, all the so many of the teams are really good in the Pac twelve. Well, what are you guys say? I was gonna say and ask her about momentum? Yeah, okay, hey, because but you know, all of a sudden, you know you're you're playing really well you're finishing the top four, you get you get
to go to the regionals. But when do you know that things are going to go well? Maybe even for an entire week. You can always kind of tell, I think the mindset of your team the week leading up to a tournament. You know, you get a vibe at practice to see how everybody's feeling. Are they confident, are they in a good mindset? Is their technique on point? So I would say, like we kind of can tell the momentum into a tournament the week before. But again, it's golf
and anything can happen. You could be hitting it, you know, not great, but then come out two days later and win a tournament, right right, No, that's the question. That's why I asked a momentum. Jay believes in it. I kind of don't, because it's how you play that day. Especially in golf. You could hit the hecku ever on Thursday, come back and not hit it on Friday, and do the opposite on Saturday. For Saturday, it's every day is a season. To me,
It's true golf. Golf is that way, and I think so much of female sports and women in general. Women can play good, they have to feel good, you know where I don't think that is as important with men. Yeah, well that's an interesting comment. So tell me what you mean. What do you mean by that? I like, I feel like I've got a dress good to play good. We Steve and I have that argument all the time, Right, what are the uniform? Right? You play
better? But you know when you said there's got to be a feel what tell me a little bit more about what you mean by that. Well, I just I just think, you know, women that we are emotional creatures.
And I think if if everything in our life is going well, where we feel good, we feel in control, and the relationships in our life are going well, and maybe schools going well, if we feel good, that will lead to us playing good where I feel like, you know, men they are not as emotional creatures at leak from my experience, and so you guys can deflect relationship issues or you know, school and really just like, um, you have to play good to feel good. Does that make
sense? No, that's that's funny. Used to say that because I I, who have coached both, you know, in high school, coach both boys and girls. You're right, I mean coaching girls was different because of all those things that you talked about. Do I need to pay you fifty dollars from that? From that that analyst, Blue Cross, blue shield. You can just But that's great because it's true. I'm hoping my relationship will take so so. Coach. So you go in on on Monday of the
Pac twelve Championships, You're in second place. You shoot minus six. Obviously you felt good. You're tied for first. Uh you know on Thursday, I mean, things we're going just the way you wanted them too. Now you ended up in fourth place, but you're coming out of it. I mean, where were you what were you shooting for? Uh? Realistically going into the tournament and you know, is that about where you ended up? Yeah? Well, we we had struggled the previous weeks before conference. The
energy on the team was low. I felt like we had we had not a good vibe on the team. I feel like everybody just didn't seem super motivated. We had a great team meeting before Pac twelves and just try to remind the ladies of like, you know, their wise and you know, why are they here? Why do they want to compete? The Arizona standard is to win and to be mindful of that and to remember, you know,
what are our goals? And so I think that week before Pac twelve, I knew we are I knew we were the caliber of team to go in to have a chance to win because I know we're that good. And then when we put ourselves in position to win, I was really excited because I really believed in this team and that they can win, and they could
win. The last round, you know, the conditions got a little tough and we just didn't execute, and we had some some minor airs, a lot of three puts, and we weren't hitting the ball close enough to the hole to where we could convert the birdies. So, um, hats off the USC and they played some tremendous golf that final round and it took the
title. But but overall this this is a very good women's golf team and I have I have known that this entire year, even with the high finishes and the low finishes, Um, we we've definitely got what it takes. Yeah, in fact, you played well, it doesn't um uh. You know you play well, you play well, but the other teams played well too, so you know, your success doesn't necessarily mean that you can win at all, because if they play well well, their chances just as good.
You know what I'm saying, You have no control over them. Yeah, and the PAC twelve is deep. You know, you're looking at the some of the best teams in the country with Stanford USC, Oregon USC la um. Uh, I mean it's we are we were I think we went in to the conference to a su the conference. We were sixteed, you know, so, um, that's how competitive the conference is. Well and then and so you know, finishing fourth, you had to feel pretty darn
good about that, right, I mean we not really. I mean I would say that since we were in the opportunity to have a chance to win, we wanted to have that chance to win. I mean, I think anytime you finish in the top five with the Pact World Championship, you're pretty happy. But I mean we were. We were happy with the finish, but I mean we definitely would have preferred to have won. So so what do you do for for two weeks now? You know, because this this
tournament was last week. The regionals aren't till May the eighth, so you know, are they taking a break? You're getting away recharging how do you what do you do with this couple of weeks before you start regionals. Yeah, we we gave the ladies this last weekend off. We had practice on Friday, we had practice this morning. Golf is not a game that you can take too much time off because you don't want to lose your field, but definitely given a couple of days here and there off with finals, final
dams coming up because we play the Nuba regional during finals. We so just trying to make sure that the ladies are confident, caught up in school and but no, we just keep doing what we're doing, practicing, you know, five days a week and you know, fifteen hours working together playing on the golf courses, working on technique and drills and doing everything we need to be confident going into regional. Okay, let's let's talk about something else real
quick. We've been talking about this all week and last week in the last few months. And Il you've been here a while now, right, you want a title not too long ago? How has the world changed athletically at your place involving women's golf, women's golf, you're seeing the elite female athletes, you know, like the women like rose bangs and the top American girls like Rachel Heck, they are the ones that are I think committing pretty good
and il deals with clubmakers like Callaway or Titlists. And but as for like, um, just the normal average female golfer n il is is not too apparent in our world right now. I think that will change in time. But um, you know pretty much you can get paid to play now. You know, everything that was illegal two years ago is now legal. You
know, these these kids are making big money in big checks. I don't really envy the basketball and football world because they're they're the ones that are really dealing with it, might say more than us, but but it's coming for sure. Do you do you like it? Do you not like it? Or does it not matter whether you like it or not? You just gotta deal with it. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of it, just because I feel like the wealthier schools are, especially with football and basketball,
are going to have an advantage in the end. But but again it's it's the way of the world. Like these programs, these universities are making so much money off of these student athletes that it does make sense though that they should get a stipend from that, so it's it's hit or miss. But it's definitely changed the world of athletics. So let's kind of maybe I'll go back and forth with you. Uh in golf a few how many years ago was it that you won the title? It doesn't seem that long ago.
For okay, five years ago. Did you come up with some great speech you guys had a great run or do you give those or how would you give those a steep before we Yeah, yeah, you don't like one of those Rockney type of things. Or do you look at say, this is tennis, this is right? Does that come into playing golf? Individual sports? But not really because you're still a team. Oh no, yeah,
you definitely have team pow wows before everybody teas off. And I mean you definitely got to get together and like seize the day and seize the opportunity and and let those those team members know that you're there for them as coaches, that you believe in them, and that they need to play hard for each other. And um you know, really, team team get together before those type of events. They're just as apparent in golf as it is in
football or any more. Um I guess athletic sport interesting interest. So give us a little bit of a rundown of you know, who's who's been key for you this year? Um, you know how and what you're expecting, you know, with with some of your players, I mean, who's got a shot to go out and you know do something really special? Uh? In the NC double as well, we have um, two girls that got All Pac twelve is Gilai Bita Starku from Lithuania and then I have Carolina Malgratti
from Italy who also just played in the Augusta National women vamitter. So, um, those two ladies are definitely leading the team. I have a star freshman from Kansas, Um, Julia Meismer. She's a um five foot ten, hits the ball a long way, very strong, you know. So we've got we've got a lot of Um. We've got two the freshman, two sophomores in one team year. So we're young and these ladies are are competitive. It's fun to watch. Okay, I'm i'm I'm looking at your
roster and I see the Carolina is five foot one. Am I she gonna embarrass me if I go out there and you know she hits it a mile and you know she's eighty yards ahead of me. I mean, tell me about her and how she plays. What kind of a player is she? She's a little she's a little uh, she's a mixture of mighty mouse and then I don't know what other cartoon is like the little the mouse with the sombrero that's always running around like she is um fiery, she hits the ball
a long way. She's a she's definitely a presence on the golf course. Her her with her Italian accent, and but she's tremendous, she really is. Is there a difference between the international players and the United States players in terms of how they think about the game or just mentality about the sport. I would say that the international student athletes there, they come in a little
bit more seasoned, a little bit more mature. I think overseas they're used to traveling over the world, where I think most of our domestic student athletes are strictly really probably only used to traveling within the United States. So the international kids are definitely more well rounded and worldly and experienced different types of cultures
compared to the Americans. Would would appreciating things be part of that. I don't necessarily think that in regard, but they just have a different view of the world. Yeah, in what way politically? Just overall? Yeah, I just think the just understanding the different differences between you know, the French culture compared to Italian, or the Russian compared to the Lithuanian or you know,
or Thailand compared to Taiwan. I just think that they're they're more knowledgeable of the world rather than just being I guess, more knowledgeable of just the United datis right. It makes sense. So as a coach, I mean, obviously you put a team together, you find out who's good players, But how much actual instructing goes on with the players? Are you just help them fix things or are you teaching them how to play better golf? I guess as the way I would put that, it's a mixture. We are
a maintenance crew, you know. I think got coach Justin Bubster, my assistant coach. He's a PGA pro and he definitely helps with the technical work. We both worked with them on short game technique. All of my ladies have their own instructors and we work very closely with them on monitoring these players games and having good communication. But but then there's some days where we know we just we let them practice and we let them work on what they need
to work on. It's it's it's a holistic approach. It's it's natural where some ladies need more maintenance where some, you know, don't. You're right, right, and I would assume that you're a coach that kind of coaches to the individual. Now you don't just have this blanket coaching style. Does that make sense? Right? Yeah? How does that work? Or I'm sure that's just why you've done it all your life. Well, I mean
I've been coached for fifteen years now. So every year when freshmen come in, you kind of just slowly learn what does this player you know want and need to be successful, you know, from the coaching staff and from themselves. Because some ladies might only require, you know, twenty hours a week for practice, where you've got other girls like, you know, like Hayley
Moore. Haley Moore needed thirty hours of practice, So you need to make sure that she had that availability to her to where she could get confidence by getting what she needed in because everybody was Golf is so different. Yeah, Okay, well thanks coach. Good luck to you or the rest of the way. Well, thank you guys for having me. I appreciate it.
Thank you. Yeah, that's the luck. At the regionals. We'll keep an eye on you, so go get them, all right, Well, we'll see you hopefully on TV. It's the national championship, all right. Thanks a much. Thanks by guy from Laura, you know, from you. You know, I just the thought of getting on a tea box with somebody who's five foot one, whether it's a male or female, and watch him just swap one out there. You want her a partner and me, yeah, me just go. You know, I'm just not even gonna Hittner.
Bring him, bring him, bring him in for a scramble. But you know, I you know, somebody asked me, asked me a question. Well, I know we need to go to break, but they I gottask, do you you know how much women's golf do you think men watch? And and I thought, you know, that's a good question. And to me, their game is closer to my game than the man. I can't do what royal Yeah, right, is a change game. But now
that's even and even their games are I mean, they're really good. I got to play in the women's progam here several years ago, and it was it was a golfer. She was, you know, not one of the top golfers. And I'm she's really good. No, you know, even the ones that aren't good a right, are really good. And I but I watch I watched lot, I watch a lot of it. But because it's gotten so much better, yeah, I have it. You couldn't tell.
I couldn't tell your name. I used to cover in Dallas with all these girls and they were they were the ones that came through maybe fifteen twenty years ago, and I was I knew her when she was fifteen or twelve or whatever. Look at them and then but they come through a lot, they're really really Yeah, it's just some believable way different. It's not like
three or four great ones. And then everybody else there's a lot of and the international players some kind of taking over, haven't they They have, But there's a ton of really good, really good players out there. All right, let's go and take our next break. We're gonna come back and we'll look, we'll kick some things around. We'd love to hear from you and your thoughts on you know, what's going on with n I Ellen, are you gonna do anything about it? Right? All right, so we'll be

He's Jay. We have about twelve minutes if you just want to call for five two four one six seventy four forty. Give us your thoughts on nil. If you had a magic one, how would you solve the problem? Hit the lottery? Maybe Arizona needs to hit the lottery. They do, they do, they do but there's so many things, Jay, and I know you're you're you're alum. You you donate money, and you give money to the problem, you buy tickets. Uh, that's all part of
it. I don't I'm not I'm not an alum. I'm a media guy. I am trying to help buy certain areas. But but if you want to help help, well, you know. And and the thing is, look, there's already enough pressure on fans and boosters and whatnot to you know, put money into the program to keep up correct, right to correct. And you know, over the years Arizona has had, for lack of a better word than me, I hope they people. This is just you know,
sugar daddies. You know certain people that have contributed to the program. You know, the the davis Is who built the you know the uh whose name is on the football Stevens, the Stevens, the facility, um of Jenny Clemens who built you know, the academic center, and uh, you know all of those people. UM, tell me, tell me where you're going this. I think I know where you're going. Those people seem to
have always been around. Yeah, we've we as fans have always leaned on that to come up with the big money when you needed to come up with the big money, whether it was to build something or fire a coach. Right, let me say this. I came up. I heard a term this morning that I thought, it's fantastic. There's donor fatigue. Yes, donor fatigues. That's where I'm going. And the will is gonna shorten up and drive. It's gonna make mead right. And in Tucson is not Los
Angeles. It's not even Tuscaloosa as it relates to that, because in Tuscaloosa and at Alabama or at in bad and Rouge, at LSU or State, or at Athens Georgia or Ohio State or Michigan, you know, there's a there's there's a long history of fans giving everything they've got to those programs.
She's on Arizona is not that just on Arizona. You know, people love their Arizona football, they love the Arizona basketball, but not to the point where they're going to give up the kind of money that fans and in and Arbor and Columbus to do to that level. And uh yeah, you know, and you feel like now because you've had all these boosters who give hundreds of millions of dollars, and we've always been saying, well, you know,
they'll get it something right. Now, it's like those of us who can only do one hundred or a thousand or you know whatever in a year. There's a lot of pressure on those fans now, and to your point, those are the ones that complain the most. Right. You know, as I say, empty barrels make the most noise, right, do do
the davis Is who built the you know, the football facility. Are they bitching as much as you know that guy who's on Facebook who's just you know, typing something up on his phone maybe maybe their own way, but not publicly like or they're going yeah, or they they have an open door to you know, to go to into Jet Fish is obviously, look, you know you gotta do something, you know or whatever, or to go to Tommy White and say, you know, you gotta get better players, but
you know it's you. I think there's more pressure on the average fan now sure to participate in this, because if you're not, they are into Tuscaloosa, Sure they are in at Clemson, Sure they are at at LSU, they are at Ohio State. And if we don't hear. Well, guess what you'll be. You'll be uh, you'll be uh the Colorado States, you'll be the new Mexico's and uh, and you'll get what you get. You get what you get, which is unfortunately right, but it is.
But you know what, that's still of course, I mean, come on, we live in that world. We live in that world. Yeah, it's crazy. The expectation will still be sure, be competitive, win some championships, yeah, particularly in football and basketball, even though your hunt maybe tens of millions of nine hundreds of millions behind these other schools. So I'll make this public because it happened to me last weekend. I tell you somebody.
I got into it somebody last week and I made the point was we have all these people complaining and the worst thing that happened was this was their number, their title in ninety seven, right, and they hang on that, and and our callers have been calling it's happened so long ago. They're kind of agreeing me. They have the one title. So they entitled the Bitch about It and complain and how come this? How come that? And one of the guys, I guess he's a Facebook frian I really don't know.
He says, well, Steve, he gave me some big exploitations. And by the way, if they hadn't won that, no one would know who the hell you are talking about with me, I says, in my mind, I'm thinking that's kind of a good point. But then I said, you would not be known as I waited a while and I said, well, I guess better to be known than unknown, right, because okay, yeah, okay, here we are this years later, this years later. Now I don't know if he's trying to help solve the issue or try
to donate or whatever. But everybody has an answer, right, but they don't have the questions. Yeah, well they don't have the answers either. Why did they throw stuff out? They have the questions like that email that you're at, Why isn't it Why is an Arizona doing better? Why did they lose a guy to Alabama? Why did they lose a guy to Gonzaga.
They have all kinds of questions, yeah, but no answers. Well, and they what they answered, or they think they have answers that aren't answer you know, I mean, they're just well, that's it right there. They think they have the answers, and they don't. Yeah, um, and they're not on the inside. You don't know. I don't know. We know what we know, but it's not always the right answer.
Yeah, and and and until there's some sort of which I don't think there will ever be some sort of a rule or something that says all this has to be transparent. I mean, you know, we can't go ask a kid how much do you make? Right? We could, but we can ask, but we shouldn't have the right to know. People want the right to know. Not everybody has not every question has an answer. Yeah, people want the right to know all these things. They want took the right
to know. Why did x X go to Alabama? You know what did he get? People say, I want to know that. Well, you don't get to know that, right. It's funny. I was at the doctor last weekend and didn't know him the first time. Going says, so, why are we losing all these players this doc? When was the last time you gave to the to the program? You start laughing, and he says, a good point. Yeah, there you go. We gotta call we gotta call higher on the army on the ball. Hey, guys,
how you doing from the trip. Howard, you made this, you survived South Dakota someone totally right. But um, as far as basketball goes, I don't. In football they stay two to three years, right, if they go hardship, do they get to get to leave after two years? Is how it is? Foot football? No, it's an age. It's an age requirement. And people, well people don't know is that the NBA
thing is also an age requirement. You know, so if you're if you've been held back a couple of years, and you know, in school, and you're a senior in high school and you're twenty years old, you can go to the NBA. Right, Yeah, I think they should move it twenty one or two years in college. I think they unlike some idiot like coach k because he had so many one duns, he said there should be no one and done. Yeah, you see such an idiot. Okay, oh wait, I'm I'm wrong. I am wrong. In the NFL,
it is it is, it's two years. It's not an age requirement. Yeah, it says what it says. To be honestable for the NFL Draft, a player must have been out of high school for at least three years and must have used up their college eligibility. That doesn't seem right. So what's your point, Howard? What are you calling about this? Okay, Well, because they're in i L. That's why that's my point. Because they're going through the transfer portal and all this, so they're spending way more
time in college within I L and transfer portal. Anyway, that's what I'm that's my point I'm making. Okay, all right, did you miss us? More? More important? More important? Hey, as far as I want to have one comment on big idiot Draymond Green, there was an article out. It's not so much we're all tired at least time of his act, but this article, this guy wrote an article. I didn't read it. He said, I'm sick of the apologists, the people that are apologizing
for him. That was it was an article as lead. I know you probably didn't get reception in North Dakota or wherever you were South Dakota. I said when he was out for that one game, I said on the air that they're better off without him. They played better, that's more fluid, and they have less drama. Whether that and granted he's very talented and he helps the team does he's a critical part of it. But there are days
when they played better without him, and they did. He's on his Yeah, he's on the downward of his career, and when he signs his contract, the baggage, they're not gonna want it. And they won. They won the championship last year despite of him. Everybody that knows basketball, they said he did not have a good championship round. Well, I think it's gonna be. It's gonna be the Lakers. No, no, no, Golden State and your sons, right, if they advance, is that what
it is? Well, we have to beat We gotta beat up Denver first. Okay, that's right, that's right, Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah. So well I'm not I'm not watching the game the night, but very Denver game. I'll watch him, watch him. I just listened on the radio. Okay, I'll go to watch all the Denver games. That's gonna be a good one. Thanks. We're gonna clock them. But you guys, Golden State won't make it that far. They won't. They're getting
past don't lose. Don't lose to the Lakers. Even if they get by Sacramento, they're not making it. That's I'm tired of winning dinners and wine from you, so they're not gonna make it. I'll just say it. We don't go back because period. Okay, we'll see how get by to die. I can't even win any more stuff from one hours. Okay, to close the loop on that question. By the NFL draft, it says you must have been out of high school for at least three years and must
have used it up your college ealagability. But if you've not used up all your college salability, you can request uh the league's approval to get you to answer the draft early. I've never heard of anybody after their three years to be to request and not be allowed with the draft. Um bion, how many years did he play? Three for? Yeah? So that's that's what it is, right. Yeah, is not gonna say, Bijon, we
don't want you here. Of course, it's it's a man. They should stay at least three it's a man's league, man, it is, that's for their safety. Yeah, okay, Hi, first hour win value very quickly. Hope to get some call a ready man, I'm glad you saw the clock, all right? Yeah, yeah, I got there's some breaking news and then we're gonna have John feen We're gonna talk about the NFL Draft from the perspective of somebody who got drafted in the first round. Is it's
been thirty years ago for John, thirty one years for John. But um, you know, well we'll talk him whatout, you know, what was that like? It's kind of like what's it like to get to the show, right, So we'll be right back and then we'll be breaking news and then John feenus stick around.
