Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez. They have their eye on the ball on two Sons Sports Stage, Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I heart radio arm Hey, welcome back to you on on the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay and Jay has some breaking news last night. Check Welcome the sea. Is I on the ball breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Okay, as mentioned things was near duds to Steve's heart and mine as well as as a journalist or Shoe Collars was former

journalist week just kind of screw up now. But anyways, the situation at USC where a reporter named Luca Evans from the Southern California News Group basically the Orange County Register was kicked out of out of USC UH his access was say he was suspended from access to the USC football program for two weeks. A couple of days ago, apparently he wrote about something that occurred that wasn't part of the actual press conference. He there were two guys talking, two USC

players talking. He mentioned that in a story. They said that was out of line because it wasn't part of the quote unquote media opportunity and they said they were suspending them for two weeks. Of course, the media started bleeding out of its eyes over this, saying it was ridiculous and and stupid and what the hell is going on? And what some because somebody writes something you don't like, you're gonna cut them off, YadA, YadA, yadah.

There was a funny thing by an interview with with Chip Kelly the UCLA. He was asking a press conference, have you ever had a situation where you kicked a reporter out for or suspending them from being around the program for a couple of weeks breaking something? Apparently? Yeah, And he said you can do that. I didn't know you could do that. He was very He densked around the question because he didn't want to. I wouldn't to be either.

I would have say I really have no comment because I really don't know. He didn't want to piss off the other side, right, but he was. But that was his first initial funny actions. Really, I don't know you could you could do that. So anyways, apparently it's been resolved, the suspension has been lifted. There are statements both by by Lincoln Riley at at at USC and then by Luca Evans, I'll read them to you quickly. Here's Lincoln Lincoln Riley's uh statement. Last night, I received a

call from Luca Evans and we had a very candid and productive conversation. We agreed that we both could have handled the situation differently. I appreciate Luca recognizing the policies we have in place to protect our student athletes and acknowledging to adhere to those in the future. We welcome Luca back to practice and look forward to his continuing coverage of the Trojans and then Luca Evans says, last night, I had a long conversation with Lincoln Riley Shane our perspectives on the events

that led to us suspending my access. Riley made it clear his intent to protect his players. I made it clear my intent it's always been to tele compelling honest stories on USC. I respect you to understand the program's outline policies regarding meet access and any misteps came through intent of doing my job and pursuing a relationship building and storytelling. I will continue the same reporting and writing with fairness, accuracy, and depth, and we reached an agreement to lift the

restrictions. Okay, So so I'm gonna pick your brain. I have my thoughts on this. And you know I said yesterday, if they if they re revoke or they come back on this and say, okay, we're gonna let you in their their power of rules doesn't make any sense, right, you know, your dad, I'm a dad. We say you can't go out past eleven o'clock. And if they do it, what do you do? Oh it's okay, you can't do that. No, it's it's there's there's some repercussions. Okay, So what do you think is the real reason

behind this? That they didn't like what he wrote, didn't like what he wrote, whatever it was that he wrote, I stapp seen the story. No, no, no, behind this that they said, okay, you're welcome back. Oh oh they're changing hard was that they were getting crapped on by everybody exactly exactly. Somebody, finally, somebody funny told them, you guys look like crap. Look. I wonder if they even went to their own journalism program, which is a very good that that said, what are

you doing? You're doing this is petty, You look stupid. I get what you're trying to do. But this is, this is this conversation should have happened before the extra did. Right. But that's that's often comes from you know, people in those positions who've never been on our side of it, right, they've never been on our side of it to understand, you

know, what goes on. Nobody nobody, there aren't. There aren't guys anymore, some as many as there used to be limpitted this way because there are still something, but there aren't guys who are looking for a story to make you look bad. If it comes there a way, they're gonna do it. Yeah, But but very few people get up every day and said, I gotta go find something though to make somebody look bad. You you

talked about this yesterday, and I don't disagree with you. They have in house writers or whomever they going to pell them that do their publicity whether right their stories. But but that's that's a one sided feature that tells your story. It's not the and most of the time they're not the stories that they're not the good, well written stories that journalists tell. I'm being biased, but I'm telling you my side of it, so you don't get you don't

get the full picture of what you see. Yeah, and hey, if I had a website and I wanted to be pro me, I write it. Maybe write it. I have a perfect example of this just just last week. Okay, so the day after the Mississippi State game. Okay, the U of A game notes come out. Yeah, okay, and just all these bullet points of stuff that happened in the game. No mention of the five turnovers, right, which was the kid of the game. No

mention of the five turnovers. And we're we're in We're in California. So I'm with you, my son, Yes, idea who he wrote those? You know? Were the teams that he that he did? And I said, Adam said, how did they not mention that there were Jade Delora had four picks and there were five turnovers in the game. He goes, well, we're not gonna put that in there. I said, why not? It was a big part of the games because it makes's look bad. We're

not putting that in there. It happened, it happened. Well guess what, I'm sure the reporters wrote it. Yeah. Yeah, but he said, we would never put that in the in the release, I said, oh, why would you not it's a it's a It was a key part of the game. Even when when do you think just switched you talked about ten years ago or whatever. Now, but dud and Butch and all these guys, guess what could put it in there? It was it was when

they locked when when they were able to lock down access. Okay, we're able to then they had the internet to put out what they want to see out in the media. And that's when it happened. Now, it was, it's kind of gradual. But look, there were even times that I know Tom Dundalston wasn't happy with some of the stuff that they put out because he wanted to say more because he knew, look, we can we can

pretend this didn't happen, but they're not gonna pretend it shot right. No, Well, the reason I asked the question, there's no question that they got heat from They thought it would be a little non story. Yeah, it became a national story and and and and and in Football's case, in particular, their staff they're they're they're no, not no, they're the football staff. You know the staff, and you know the director of operation. Those guys are in charge of the media. They tell the other guys what

you can say. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no that it happened. It happened in the Summlin years. I don't know how election happened in the Ridge Road years, but it was in that stretch of time. Kevin someone had a guy that that told sports and from what to do. No question. I even asked that question because he was a linger. He lingered, he listened to stuff, and what the hell who's this dude? Oh, he was a handler, kind of got a handler, and and and and we all know who he is. And I know that the

last name. But I'm thinking we've come to the point of this. We're grown men who grown men need need a sidekick to either give him a nod or a yeah, that's okay to talk about it. Looks I think the statue of limitation has passed. But I was aware that sports information folks, you know the guy, the media guys were not allowed in the football office. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I forget you know that, right, I've heard that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's funny

because we don't talk about it, not Dan. We didn't worry about it because it was not a story. Fans don't give a crap. But in the context of what we're talking about, talking about the control that say a usc football program or Arizona football program has over the narrative. Sure, it's because they do things like that. Well, the funny thing is changed you're talking about here, how did that turn out? Yeah, that's so,

that's so good. But you know, see, I you know, it goes way back to Look when when when Arizona played Georgetown in basketball in the eighty six eighty seven season. Okay, we go to Georgetown, right, the restrictions they had George talking to the Georgetown coach and players and stuff like that was ridiculous. And this was nineteen eighties. Well it was December of eight. What was it? What was it? Well, for instance,

the postgame press conference, Okay, John Thompson press conference. Ten minutes, he said, it's ten minutes, that's it. At During that same ten minutes was when the locker room was open. You had to decide choice to go to one or the other. And those days they didn't transcribe either side. Probably so you so I go to the Greg, Greg, you stayed in the in the conference. I went to the locker room, and we were gonna swa quote and and no Greg didn't go on there. It was

it doule Duston. Help me out with that. So I go to and literally the guy that their their media relations guys starts counting down at thirty when the ten minutes was going to be up. He doesn't count down, So there was no flexibility Twitter or anything. Well they kind of do that now, No, I'm telling you they were doing this thirty five years yeah, yeah, yeah, Well because they didn't need they didn't need the publicity.

Right. In fact, I used to give people crew grief in that officing at one point, you're gonna need You're gonna need us, You're gonna need us. Well, now you can't even go into the locker room. No, no, no, no, no, no until the tournaments. To

the tournaments. It's a disservice. Let me see this. And I don't know if I'm accurated with this or not, but Loots Times and I go back to the loose Times because you have Sean doing what he does, Steve did his stuff with tmt uh, they had Richard does his stuff channing Fry. You have a number of people in the media. Guess what they were allowed to do talk to the media, grow up a little bit, know how to handle the media, because now what do they be comfortable with the

media? They are media? Yeah, I mean, come on, how novel? Is that? How novel? Let the kids grow up, go to car What do you go to college for? Jay? To get to grow up and learn what to do to get a job, to have skills. You know, I'm hearing my little soapbox. But but come on, these are grown These are grown people. I know, I know, I know the something stuff. Well, they wanted they want, they want to try and say what we're protecting them? Want them from? What? From

what? You already coach them? You do it, You did it right, You did it at the sugar skulls. Don't screw up and say something stupid. There you go there? How to handle the knees media? It's crazy, it's stupid. Okay, okay, yeah, you feel better. I do. I'm not. It's got resolved. I feel like I should give you like a pack of life favorite. It's funny though he came to

the But yeah, okay, somebody finally did you guys? Come on, ye, this is really stupid and you're making not only you're making yourselves look stupid. You're making the whole university. You really are, because the athletic director and the president backed up. Sure, of course, and then of course they are. But somebody who must have gotten there here and say, you know what, he's back a little. This is not this is not nuclear nience. And then this is not a fight to fight you exactly,

exactly right. We're not gonna go to Cuba and fight with the If you want to pull the guy aside and say, hey, that was that was out of line, Sure, don't do that again. Sure, by all means. And that's what they did. And but they publicly embarrassed guy. And that's publicly embarrassing. Actually the guy, he's probably well known now and it could be well read now. Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, all right. A couple of quick things before we run out of time.

On breaking news here Trevon Diggs, the cornerback for for the Cowboys, out with a torn acl out for the year to Yeah. I saw that. I saw the big deal. I was going to the Cowboys. Oh you're one of those guys. One guy makes a difference, a guy like that. They have twenty two other people, but not guys like Trevon Diggs. Yeah, but that's your I'm not gonna tell you how the pay. I want you to go down that rabbit hole. And then Bryce Young is apparently

out for the game against Has he been impressive? I haven't really paid attention. No, Okay, he's out. He's been out the last two games. And I don't know who they're I don't know who their backup is. But they're owing too. They knew they were gonna be owing too. They're not very good. But he'll be out. Oh you're asking about this guy? His backup is? Who the red rifle? Oh, he's there and he's got a he's one hundred years old. He will start. He's gonna

actually have to put away the clipboard. Wouldn't you just love that job. You're getting paid whatever, you're getting paid just to hold the clipboard. And then all of a sudden, I'm gonna go play. Okay, those guys want to play. Those just what is? He goes? He plays? They want to play. But you're getting paid to hold the clipboard. I know, but he wants to play. If you're if you're if you're gonna go practice, you're gonna do all this stuff. You want to play he

probably goes where he knows he's gonna play. You want to play. I'm pretty sure they want to play anyways, he's not anyway, So it looks like it looks like Andy Dalton will be He's the guy. All right, we're gonna take our next break. We're gonna be back with Ben Palmer, who was the uh Patrick or Palmer. He's the writer for Cardinal Sports Report Covers Covers Stanford, so we'll get a little bit of a picture about Stanford

This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteys. Hey, welcome back to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. He's chickens off

now on the phone. We have Ben Parker from Rivals covering Stanford. How are you this? We're doing well. We wanted to pick somebody's brain of what the heck is going on at Stanford. So what's going on to Stanford? Well, it's a rebuilt situation, that's probably the best thing to say. Uh, you know, you're one or to Troy Taylor teams coming off the rock season, so they're kind of starting from the bottom here and yeah, that's kind of where we're at. Well, you know, I asked,

I asked the Jetfish today. I said, you know, what does Troy Taylor's team look like? You know, what, what are they? What? You know, what kind of defense, and often what kind of mentality do they have? And he really did. He said, I don't know Troy Taylor, so I don't really know how to answer that. But what have you seen so far in terms of kind of who they're trying to

be? Yeah, you know, I think one of the things they're trying to be is I think ideally they want to be a more creative kind of offensive team that gives teams a lot of different looks, right, and then defensively, they want to be a team that really flies to the ball and uh disguises things well and let's is and as aggressive. But I think especially

on the well both sides of the ball. Really, you know, until they're able to actually kind of get there twenty twenty four class signed and get the kids that they're actually recruiting in, it's going to take some time to kind of fully see the vision that he has for the program, if that makes any sense. Did he have a like Taylor, do you have a reputation coming in in terms of you know, what does he like to do?

I mean, he was a quarterback, so i've you know, the obvious implication of that is that he's you know, he'll he'll zero in more on the offense and the defense. But you know what was he at Sacramento Stateum, what are they? What are we expecting to see? Yeah?

I think at sack State he was really known as being a really creative offensive guy that really did a good job of space in the field and allowing his guys to make plays in open space, and and really kind of maximizing the talents of his guys, moving running backs out wide, did a lot of different kind of creative things, and uh, you know, certainly a lot

more offensive creativity than David shows. I think, like in terms of what he was supposed to be and what he is supposed to be is just a very creative offensive guy, and obviously his quarterback background being a big piece of that. So then I asked people how long they've been covering the team for a reason because of my question, even with them for a while. Yeah,

this is my third season conference Stanford. I covered Cow before that, all of them with rivals were like seven seven plus years started with Cal and now I'm at Stanford. So what's the deal. I didn't realize that Stanford has been in Arizona pretty heavily the last six times they've beaten up they played. But the Kel, THEKEL program used to be fantastic. I mean, it undershot, it was, it was consistently good. So what I say, you know, Stanford, Uh, now it's just gone bad. What

the heck happened? Yeah, So I mean, I mean, actually that kind of flies with both programs. Both callans pips, right, they both kind of had a heyday. Stanford, I mean CAW with Jeff Tetford and Stanford with David Shaw. You know, on the Stanford side of that, you know, they I think at the end of the day, there were

certain changes and adaptations that David Shaw just refused to make. And you know, whether it would whether it was Bruning an offensive coordinator that would just call the place for him, or maybe we can a change a defensive coordinator as great as Lance Anderson was there. So he just kind of failed to kind of adapt with the times and make changes. And a lot of things that he'll bring up is you know, getting pillars in the transfer portal and and

a lack of institutional support. But you know a lot of those changes really only came into force in the last years, and so it the other day, it was just as simple as David Shaw not really willing to kind of adapt and change things and listen to people who were you know, donors and

the certain things that requests a certain changes anyone to do it. So it was just general kind of the apathy I think is will kind of led to the client of Stanford and now you know, George Taylor is where he is and trying to get the same backup go to where it used to be.

So one of the things that we've kind of talked about and it's, uh, you know, sort of a sign of the times, right is the transfer portal and Stanford and you know how much you know we I mean, from where we sit, it looks like, you know, the trans report is a difficult thing for Stanford because of the academics and you know they talk

about other coaches who don't like to use the transfer portal. But how much of an impact is that having on you know, the ability to get players and backfill and you know, you lose a guy and you know, you go and you got to get a high school guy ready instead of being able to go into the JATS report. I mean, do you think that's actually a thing that's having an impact on Stanford. Yeah, sure, I mean the champ repoort's having an impact and everybody, right, not just Stanford.

I think with Stanford, I think they're opening things up more with that, which is good to see. You know. So the administration is being more flexible at bringing in guys. You know, they brought in a linebacker from Florida, you know, from FIU, Guys from Bernadelle. They brought in a transfer from Wisconsin, Spencer Litle. And it's not just you know, and it's not just you know, the football team that's getting more transfers.

Now, you know, Basketball Atlantic Jared has been landing grad chances more regularly, Jared Biden from Providence. We're planning for the Stanford men's basket team, Baseball landed a guy softball. So I mean there's as a whole of the transfer portal, it's I think it's taking Stanford longer to adapt and figure out how to use that while still maintaining their academic standards. But in this new era, Stanford wants to compete and so as a result, we're gonna be

seeing more kids transfer end than than in previous era. So administration's opening up on that, which is good for the program and really honestly essential because the trans report is he coming to a huge part of how you build college programs today is Emma Smith's kid playing? Is he How good is he? He's good? I mean, I feel like they could be using Yeah, he's playing, he said out he was injured almost all that season. He's playing.

He looks fine. I feel like they could be using him more honestly. When he gets the ball, I mean, he looks very shifty, very fast, and I'm a little surprised he hasn't had a hundre year rushing game yet. So I think he's a guy who I think Stanford could be getting even more out of. So I mean, at some point, I think he's gonna go off for a big game. I don't know if it'll be against Arizona necessarily, but he looks good. He's shifty, he's fast,

and I think with each week he's getting stronger. More cop them, but he's he looks the part for sure. But what are they What kinds of things are they doing offensively? I mean is that you know what are they doing? A read option kind of thing? A pro said, what what are we going to see on Saturday. Yeah, you know, there's a lot of spread stuff, right you know, running backs running, you know, moving out of receivers, a lot of spread stuff. A lot

of vertical shots too. That's another thing we're saying. I'm trying to I mean, I think one thing to des to look for is is them to utilize Benjamin Rosic more. He didn't get utilized as much last week against Fact State, and that hurt them. So I think we see I think we can see a lot of kind of vertical passing and a lot of kind of shots down fields and then some sweeps and trying to waves to kind of get you know, running backs an open space without having necessarily run through the offensive

line. Because the offensive line is a major week spot right now, and so they can't really do contraditional vertical handoff in the middle. They have to kind of be a little more creative in finding ways they get those guys around. Those guys. Yeah, I'm not sure that helps at all, But you know, I would also say too that we sit sixty quarterbacks as well. Tader Menson on Tuesday that you know, Bill Baston, Daniels and Justin

Lambster and they playing quarterbacks. So one other thing to look for is is kind of which quarterback is going to start, and also you know what the rotation is because it's been kind of a first half one guy, second half the other, and the innsing to see if that pattern holes or if he'll kind of use both in the same quarter. So let's just see on that.

So Ben, if I if I'm in Betton, Rouge, Louisiana or Houston, Texas, and I wake up Sunday morning, I read the paper, I think they'll still exist, and I see the Stanford lost two Sacramento State, I'm thinking, what the heck happened and how much of a setback is it for the program? What was the reaction back at Stanford because you think that would never happen. Yeah, well, yeah, It's important to keep in mind that Sack State is the program that Troy Taylor was at before.

So it's kind of a weird deal where they got the program that Taylor inherited from David Shaw lost the team that he built at Sack State. So I think that that piece of it, I think is giving Stanford fans and health that hey, the team that beat us is a team that he built. And so if he can build a team at sach State, why can't he do the same at Stanford. So I think that the loss to Sack State is more of an indictment on Shaw and the way the programs slipped under

him. And in a weird way, it's kind of a compliment to Taylor because he built that team. So I think like that piece of it has made Stanford fans that kind of pause and like take a breath, like, Okay, you know, we lost to a really good FCS team that was built by a former coach. And then also see me at Sack State came in fired up, and I mean, you know, so it was kind of a weird game. So if that makes sense, Yeah, and another

you know, the Shaw administration and is gone. But you know, what Stanford was known for was one being very physical both sides of the ball, very tough defenses with guys that just beat the hell out of you is defensively or you know, there's is there any of that left over or is their

approach also very different? No. I think defenses they're trying to build that that gap that one of the things that we talked about after the loss of the USC was toughness that's one of the things that they're defensive quartering and I'll be able really harped on that was, hey, we gotta be tougher. We got more physical they have and there's some guys do play that way. I mentioned guy than Bernard earlier INTI linebacker. He's very physical, play tough.

And then you know, sophomore outside linebacker David Bailey is a freak of a talent, really good safter the quarterback. He was a little deemed up last week, which is why he didn't play as much as they wanted him to. But when he's a full strength, he's an absolute beast. And then cornerback Colin right Is the rights of freshman, is a real talent.

So I definitely think they're trying to get back to that. But you know, it's brick by brick, and a lot of I said, is is really kind of waiting and tell guys whom they recruited come in and change that culture. But for now, they got some guys that are capable and they're just, you know, every day trying to get tougher and stronger. So yeah, I do think that that toughness is something that Bobby April is looking

to him still in his defense as well. So we know it was a big deal that Arizona's going to the Big twelve and and all that, all the transfer, not the the alignments changed. What was the what was the earthquake like or even if it even registered at Stanford? And now that they're moving, did people actually care? You know, hey, it's academics first, We don't care. Who was the vibe? Yeah, people are just

excited to have a home. And that's in a Power five conference. Uh, you know my subscribers, you know, who are a pretty good bell weather of like what stan fans are thinking, because the most diehards are on my site. Uh, you know, they were just happy they found a

home. And that was an a P five conference. So I think everyone was hoping for the Big ten and then when a Big ten didn't come calling, than it was well, you know, Big twelve has certain advantages because it's geography, acc has certain advantages because the Olympic sports with matters a lot

of Stanford. So I think at the end of I think I think you know, everyone was I think it was an earthquake when they moved in the sense that like they have a new home, with ACC, but there was also just a real sigh of relief, like, Okay, we have a home, we're in a P five conference, we're with cal little strains be playing on across the country in ACC, but we have a home and we can more about logistics later. So it was more kind of a collective just

si of like we survived this re alignment thing working. Okay, we have about thirty seconds. Just a quick thought or maybe a quick prediction. Yeah, you know, sitting at Stanford is struggling. I would expect Arizona to win this game, but I think it's from a close game. I think if you're looking if you're Stanford and looking at the way that if you're looking at a game you could maybe win in league this year. I think this is one that they would you know circle, So I would say arizonam like

three. That's im. I'm thinking, well, no, no surprise. Okay, Okay, thank you Ben, thanks for gaining time. Appreciate it any time, guys. Thank Yeah, I'm not surprised. I mean upon for the review, Jay eleven points a lot of points. Eleven points on the road is a lot of points, given the history, Given the history, right and That's why I've been saying all week. I said, if anybody is if there's one the wins by seven, and people are saying,

Well, you know, I've seen this in basketball when there's ten people in the arena they didn't show up to play. Yeah, this could happen. No, you got and you could tell. You could tell from Jetfish's voice. Yeah, it's like it's not that he's worried.

He's like, we can't take our quote unquote I off the ball. Yeah, we have got to go there and take care of business right in this game, no question about that. Screw this up because it's a it's a game that's important too, you know, for them to get in order to have a chance to go to a Bowl game, we could have to have it. This is one that we wrote down in pen Yeah right, right, if they don't win this, they don't win this, they win it's six right Yeah, Okay, okay, all right, we'll take our last

We have that time, but we also still that question out. And who would you think could go both ways? Uh? Recent history for anybody right now that you can right?

Thinks good. Let's see here, what about the running backs? Right widely? Wily he seems to be the most versatile, right yeah, I don't know if he's fast enough to be a defensive back though, and not big enough to be a linebacker. You know, I'll tell you what. Jonah Coleman reminds me of Daryl Lewis. Has a running back okay, yeah right, yeah. But I also remember when when they made Darryl Lewis.

I remember the day that they made Darryl Lewis a running back, where a defensive back, Dick you know, came and talked to us after practice, darre Lewis is gonna play running back defensive back now, And like we were able to talk to Darryl Lewis that day and he said he basically, I'll do whatever. I gotta do, whatever you want. Send had a whole bunch of running backs at that time, Art great House. Yeah, it was lotuless. I think uh My Bates would have been on. David Eldridge

there too. Aldridge might have been there at the time. Well, by the way, Daryl, how do you spell your name? Three years under? Said yo too? Else, So what did you tell us? No one else, nobody but you know. Jonah Coleman I see, I see him as somebody who could who might be able to do that. He looks like a very physical and a strong kid. He hang, h, you're on the are and I on the ball. What's up? Nico? Good to see you. The other night, I saw Nico at the game.

Oh you at the football game. Okay, cool, what's up? Man? Hey man, it still blew my mind. You could walk to that side of the stadium. Look at you. What the hell were you were you situated? Well, I was going to my seat, which is but we were walking across the Lowell Stevens. Was you're seeing your party? No, we're I think it was at the game? No, no, no, where it was your party? All right? By the Richard Jefferson. So you were back into normal places. Okay, I was there. What

the hell? Hey man, I'm just saying, man, I sat on that side of the stated you did, and I never even tried to go to where I saw you. Now, man, like, well we're kind of on that end. I let you know, I go to those snack bars there. Look, look when you're my age, Okay, at halftime, you gotta get up and take a walk, and you gotta you gotta get some steps in because you get stiff, are you, kidd? I can fight like a dead leg. No, I just get I just get

a little stiffs. I get up, I go take a walk. I'll walk all the way to the other side of the stadiument back every game at halftime. Yeah, well all right, yeah, you know. I didn't even know you could do that. There, Man, got to keep the blood flowing. Hey, though, I want to tell you, guys, you almost made my dad cry yesterday about just the Catalina trojans Man. Oh did you go to Catalina? Yeah? Man, he always brings up he went to the state championship. Well, they're in good hands with the coach.

I really liked that. I really it seems like a good guy. He was like a smart guy. But I was coming about this weekend. Okay, I don't care if they win by three. They just need to win. I'm glad to hear you say that. I'm really good, So are you. Did we ever ask you how many twins? Realistically? How many wins total? I still think five? Yeah, I'm with you. I'm with you, Nimber six? Would you give them six? My real answer would be eight, but I learned not to get my expectations to happen.

You're you're one of the few that don't get their explications. It's got to be more than five, Nico. Come on, man, hey man, if they win five, I will not be mad. Okay, all right, if they don't win this weekend, they winning six one we know that, we know, all right, Nico? All right, man, good to see you. Yo. Jays. Still take the Cowboys, man, the Cardinals aren't going to cover it. I'm thinking, I'm thinking hard, what is the spread? What is it? Was twelve last I saw?

That's a lot of parts they sucked. Steve. Yeah, but it's one of those trap things. You know, it's easy. I hate double digits point freends in the NFL. But this one, this one's too might be too tempty. You gotta take it, man, because they need to lose and then get a little din out there. All right, man, talk to you later. Nico. Did you recognize him? Up? Saw him and his dad. They were walking and I'm just going in because we

come from you know that side, Richard Jefferson, Jim. We come in that that gate right there, like where we come in by for the press conferences. I'm in there, walking across the the concourse there, and it ran into him right there by the by the s Who's who recognized whom? We recognize each other at the same time. Okay, I wouldn't know. I wouldn't know what he looks like. No, I remember, Okay, got the you got the red beard going and I recognized his dad and shaggy.

Yeah, he shouted me. He bought a new hat, showed me his new hat. He's got a fifteen and five eighths. Uh. I mean like I always a big head, Like you got a big head? Wow? Yeah? So okay, yeah I saw those guys. It's fine, Okay, call anybody else? Want to call? Uh? Two ay athletes? Which way? Who do you? Where would you go? Is there was gonna win this weekend? Two sport athletes? I think you could, uh well, Ortiz try to pull that off, right until he didn't?

Basketball Kelvin Kelvin basketball end in a well and we I told you one story, right we uh Francisco and I uh we we said that to him. So what we did was I think he told us. I told you because we had him on the show. We got some video equipment and went to the football stadium and had people passed through the ball so he can use that as a video. He got got him right a chance and heston and he just didn't see it happening. Yeah he got it, look though,

yeah he did. But that's a good pick. That's a good pick. Well, who there's there's a remember Craig Birdman was on the eighty eighteen. Yeah, he was one of the gumbies, right, yeah, right, I think he was more he was a practice guy, but yeah, you know he was. He was good friends with the with McMillan. They went to the same high school. Baseball Kenny often of course Kenny Man every he's borderline, borderline, a Hall of Famer. Yeah, I wouldn't know that.

It's funny because he and Luke had this weird relationship, right, Kenny was upset at Loot because he didn't become an NBA player. Kenny, you made more money in baseball. You made the right choice. He did.

He was an incredible athlete. Yeah, I know. I told you about why he throws snowball on a line up at NAU that I to this day, I'm still it's remarkable and just nobody he threw that, and I thought, well, he hit the he he well, he hit the lumberjack statue, right, and then you know what, and he was aiming for that, yeah, and it just exploded and it was great. Richard, if you want to give us a call, give us, give me a call.

Richard's bringing up some Oklahoma stuff like for Riley and and you know this did Dick ever shouldn't say this, Oh no, I should, I can say this. Come on here, I know he did coming to say j he didn't treat us fairly. He did on the cop thing he said, you'd treated us too fairly. Yeah. No, But did he get mad at you? Point? Never got mad mad at me one time and I probably overstepped now again, I remember him having conversations, and he had a

conversation with me. It said, rep is all you want, rip me and the coaches all you want, but don't but don't rip on the player. Yeah, yeah, you know he loved this player. There's no question about that. I reported something that was on the airplane and it was simple. It was something like this, and he pulled me aside. And when the press crimes, just don't ever do that again. This is what I

do. It was something simple. It was about a test and something because the guy told me and he just pulled me aside and he was pissed. But he never made it. But again he didn't. He didn't no publicly suspend you from from the program. Of course his things, you know, he didn't like club. But the funny thing about is they say they don't read it. Of course they did. They read it. They read every

bit of it. They read every bit of it. Well, I think I've told you the story about Dick and the bowl games, right, So it was it was his, uh his it was the eighty eight Sea Okay, they they were they had gone seven and seven and four. Sure, so we had the last the last Sunday. Remember we do a Sunday. He didn't call her a press conference. You just go gather with him in his office. And we asked him a question about you think you're gonna get to a bowl game? Oh, we're seven and four. I don't know.

You know, I don't really pay attention to that stuff. It's not up to me, you know. I just let them decide. And then, but this is before they made all the ball announced. He said, I just let them decide. I don't pay any attention to it. Everybody left. I'm like, really, Dick, you really don't know. He goes, He goes come here and go into his office and he's got all these paper was all over his desk trying to figure out scenarios about how they're

going to get a bulgate. He had everybody's records and where they should go, and well, we could go here if they go here, and we'll go there. So he had had it all figured out, but publicly he said, I don't pick it. Yeah, sure, of course, that's

funny. And then then if we ended up happening in that year, it was between them, between Arizona and Oregon to go to the Freedom Bowl, and they didn't and Oregon got it didn't That was my first sure current the team and that ending and they didn't go, but well you would have been

at that Sunday thing. Well I stuck around it and I was just chatting with him, and then he he he had mapped out the whole he had mapped out for everybody was going, but he was hearing publicly and stuff like that when he was hearing from from the UFA administration, and he said, and he said that, he said, it's between us and Oregon for the Freedom but and then Oregon got sure sure that was eighty eight. That was

In fact, I ran into somebody today that you skate country guy. He was skate and no, no, no, no, who kind of owned in the that time And he said, I mentioned that, but that was eighty nine. I think that was eighty nine. Eighty nine they went to the Copper Ball. No, no, but no, he was Malvin Smith Smith because he was in eighty nine. Because no, it was ninety because they didn't covering in the team and night then eighty nine. It was an

eighty nine. I was I thinking she was because it was it was the it was the night they beat Oklahoma that night. Oh jeez, I can't remember that. It was that. I remember night. Yeah, I remember it was late tonight. It was that. It was then then they beat in Oklahoma and it was that night in February, March. It had to be October, late September, October. Yeah, yeah, okay, I don't remember that. I have a very vivid recollection. What did you have

yesterday for lunch? Yeah? I had some some shredded beafario you just no I did. I had some leftover beaty at the house, and I had a wider burger today. I'm looking because I'm losing it too. I'm losing it too, don't get that guy. Yeah, okay, no, yeah, that's that. That's what. But again, you know, coaches, they pay attention, of course, of course they do. And who wouldn't. I mean, you know, you know, people say stuff about me or did when I was, you know, doing the some of the pr

stuff. I wanted to know, what are you what are you saying about our company? What are you saying? Sure, of course we read everything, and they try to pretend like, well, I don't I don't have time to read all that stuff. I don't pay attention. It doesn't affect well in that way. You have to gauge the public perception of what's going on in that in your world, that world. But but they do get those things affecting, you know. You know Nick Saban another one famous for

saying, oh, I don't care, but yeah he cares. Yeah, of course he cares, you know he does. Of course he cares totally, He totally cares. And then he goes to bank and catches those checks and says, I don't give a crap black black, But you know, of course they do. They always hate a good show. I'm glad you made it your day to day. This was fun day. I loved I

loved gatting Bruce Hill on the show. It's very cool. Uh again, you know very you know, when I was fourteen years old, man, I was like I had heroes in sports, right, and and and those three guys that actual those four guys. You throw those three guys and and T Bell in there, and they were one of my young dudes too. They would be young dudes. Now three of them are great, right right, so very cool. So anyways, that was fun. I got a glad had a chance to do that. All Right, we gotta thank you

all for being here. We'll be back tomorrow. We'll kick around the Stanford game, make our picks fab five Friday picks. And Jake Fisher will be here as well if you're breaking down for us, so he shouldn't be back.
