Breaking down all the ex's and oh's. It's Steve Romero and Jacin Summons. This is I on the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to the ball here own Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, You're Jacob z Owes, and I'm opening you at breaking news. This is Eye on the Ball, Breaking News on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I do have breaking news. And this one literally came across in the last ten minutes.
We'll choked up by this because this is one of those guys. You know, if you grew up watching football in the sixties and seventies, this was one of those guys that you didn't care what team he played for. You were a fan of the guy Dick Bud passed away. Oh really, yeah, eighty years old. It was just announcing about about the last maybe the last fifteen to twenty minutes. Steve. He was that guy, right. I don't know if you followed football enough to you know, to to
care, but I mean he was so he was the one. He was scary too, you know, he was. He was incredible to watch because just the way he played right right, No, he was one of the the dudes. He's a face of football. You know, even today, I was just gonna say, even today, you can still talk about this guy. I mean, we still talk about man that you know, that
guy hit you know he hit that guy like Dick budgets. You know, he still use him as him and Taylor Taylor from the Giants, Giants, Lawrence tayl Lawrence Taylor, those guys, iconic guys that changed the game. You know, Dick Bute's had some hits that you I mean, he had his own film, right, his own highlight film of vicious hits that he again, one of those guys who couldn't play today, right because because every hit would have been a penalty. But you know, fifty one years old,
how much I mean eighty one eighty years old? Right? His number was fifty one, number fifty one that everybody you know, again an iconic number. Anybody wore fifty one, he thought, but just came over the right. Yeah literally, I said. He died in his sleep overnight. According to his family, was living in Malibu, Uh you know there. The Bear's chairman College Yeah eighty called him the the ultimate Bear, one of the greatest players in the NFL. History, which is which is not a
lie? Uh? What CAASKI said, Dick had a gruff manner and maybe that kept some people from approaching him, but he actually had a soft touch. But remind me of the time that I approached him. He was here playing in the Tucson Open program. I was covering the golf tournament mid eighties, and he was getting ready to tee off. So he's about to go on the first tea and he was standing there. So I got to go up and see. I get a quote from he scared the crap out of
it because I went up and asked. I don't even remember what I asked. I just wanted to go up and ask him something. And he basically he's basically like, I'm getting ready to get on the first tea and I'm like, okay. So I did that, But I wasn't mad at him, right, I just could tell his competitive juice was awe. So I did that to Lawrence Taylor here at the then today he was finished. He was going to the to the to the locker room or to the to the golf club area, and I said, you got a second, I can
talk to you real quick. No, leave me alone. I said just a second. I said, no, oh man, that was yeah. People think we have these great jobs. He scared the crap out of me, he really did. I was like, I better get away. He's gonna swing that that driver at me and knock me over. But yeah, and you know what, I wasn't mad at him either. You know other guys who have done that to me. I've gotten mad, But I immediately walked Gray and said, he's about to compete and he doesn't want to be
bothered. He's got his game. Shore That's how I took that. That's how that's how I took Kids, you're bothering me, But too bad, dick Buck. I passed away at eighty years old. The New York Mets, who were supposed to be a World Series contender, didn't even get even get into the playoffs. Their their general manager has resigned, so uh there, they'll be kind of starting over there at the in their front office. Here's an interesting thing, okay, and this is gonna go to Steve.
Why I think Arizona has a chance to win on Saturday. O'marian Miller, a wide receiver for Colorado, set the school record for most receiving yards and a half last Saturday against USC with one hundred and ninety six. So USC is vulnerable on defense. And so I'm just telling you, don't be surprised. Oh, I wouldn't be surprised. But you're not gonna win this bed. That's that's not your Tuesday overreaction. A couple of people have got to
be what the hell were you thinking? Well, let's go real quick. I know you don't have you have much, but you've decided not to take the bet. Oh that's right. We were talking about this bet with Dorian Singer. Here's here's Historian Singers game log for the for the year. Four catches forty one yards, two catches thirty seven yards too, catches forty one yards, one for fourteen, three for twenty. I thought I'd snooker to
you. No, man, I'm not. I'm not taking you know you or I could catch that many passes in the game out against you against Yes, you can. So he's got twelve catches for one hundred and fifty seven yards three touchdowns this year. Yeah, it would just take three catches in a few runs. And I'm not I'm not taking that. Yeah, I thought I'm I guarantee. I mean again, he may he may still do well, he may get in the draft, but you still got to pile
up some numbers to get attention. And he's not here. Yeah, I don't know at all. So do you have the Diamondbacks you can talk about the dion I was gonna. I was just about to bring up that team. That team we don't talk about. I've been fighting with people on on on social media. Brett Hansen up in Phoenix, my sister who said somebody else, Uh, I can't remember. I bet you go ahead and go ahead and say what you're gonna say them Chi. I was just gonna say,
it's the Diamondbacks, you know. Uh, all four Walkharts series were sweeps, two games to none, two road teams, two road teams swept, two home teams swept. So the Diamondbacks now, uh, they will take on the Dodgers. Uh. There. All these series start on Saturday, the Division. Saturday is a busy day. You got four games.
You got Texas at Baltimore starting at ten o'clock in the morning, you got Minnesota at Houston at one five, then at three o'clock you got Philadelphia in Atlanta, and then at six twenty, You've got the Diamondbacks at the Dogs. Well, man, you're gonna be flipping back and forth. Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh show them. You know, I'll set up too. So let me ask you, somebody ask you. So, the Dodgers had a pretty good year, Yes, second seed in the National League.
If they get beat by the if they get me, I'm not saying they will be. If they get be by the Diamondbacks, how disappointing of a season would will be really disappointing. Wouldn't it be one that they didn't get past the Vision Series too, that it was to the Diamondback Yeah, you can't. Can't lose the series to and you know and and uh, Sammy, yesterday you made a good point. They needed the they needed to win yesterday to set up their pitching for the Dodgers series, and they got the
win. So now the top two pitchers can go in games one and two. What's the what's the season record against each other? I think the Dodgers beating pretty bad. Uh if I if I was keeping track, because uh, let me see, I'm looking at up right now. But no, it'll be It'll be an immensely, immensely disappointing season. If if the Dodgers can't take the Diamondbacks in the in the in the series, I'll have to look at it. I'll get it. I'll get it a little bit.
But you know, I'm gonna try to go to the game on Wednesday if there's I was you know, Troy Hutcherson is a huge expand so I saw him at the at the press conference and said, Troy, how much does your franchise suck? If your franchise scheduled a concert the week that they're that the week of the playoffs, there's a there's a Guns n' Roses concerts scheduled for when the stadium at the stadium for when for Wednesday, that's the end of the game. Yes, what's gonna happen? I don't know. They
haven't decided in the third inning exactly. But how lame is your franchise? Yeah, you don't anticipate, if you if you you know, well, okay, we could be in the playoffs, but we're probably not going to make the playoffs. Let's schedule this car. Oh that's interesting. What's gonna happen? I haven't heard that's fun. I got on him about that a little bit. That's kind of like remember when used to schedules vacation, that's
the tournament right after, but they'd still be in it exactly sometimes. But that was the thing of in case we lose, I can get the hell out of here. Right of course, this is ah, we're not going to be in the playoffs because we sucks. Let's schedule this concert. So I'm saying, I'm saying that to all Diamondbacks fans out there, including Sammy, that your franchise is late. The Dodgers would have never scheduled a concert
until the World Series is over. Who knew? Who knew? There you go, I'm I'm laying that out there for all, for all the Diamondbacks fans. All right, the Arizona times have been now announced. Times and dates for all the games have been announced for Arizona basketball. The schedule came out today and and TV uh uh you know put broadcast schedule. The thing that stuck out to me the most is that the duke game, which everybody's
waiting for this air Zon a duke game November the tenth Friday. It's gonna be at UH at five in the afternoon, which is a fine time on a Friday on ESPN two. Not ESPN not well, I guess you know Friday night, you're not You're not gonna have my Fox or whatever. But they're on ESPN two. I'm assuming there's a college football game on, yeah, but the Duke game will be ESPN two. November tenth, five o'clock.
There are two, excuse me, two home nine pm games. One of them one of them is with Washington State, which is going to be on February twenty second, a Thursday night, a PAC twelve network. And then I think one of them was I think it's one of the non conference games. One of the kind of blah blah. Obalmont is a nine pm game on the number seventeenth on a Friday night. At least that's on a
Friday night. That's not bad. The Alabama game up in Phoenix is a nine pm game because there's four games at the same venue that today, it's December twentieth, Wednesday, Wednesday, and then they go two days later to Vegas, and then well they three days later they're play in Vegas. That game is still to be determined. Where's that game Atlantic that team mobile to that team mobile arena Damn, I wish it's up. MGM. I know
that's fun. It's that's the best. Those games are fun there. The conference season gets started with with their atl And at Stanford December twenty nine, December thirty one. Those games are eight thirty Arizona time and two o'clock Arizona time on Friday Sunday. Sunday is New Year's Eve, so you know, the UCLA game in Tucson is still to be determined. It's on a Saturday, so that'll be decided by you know day what time on January twentieth Saturday.
The ASU game in Tucson on Saturday, February seventeenth, that's a seven thirty game. And then god, just two weeks later they go up there. They play a SU on a Wednesday night up there at eight o'clock at
night. Oh, it's a late night. The season ends at UCLA and at USC Thursday night u c l A at Paully and then Saturday, eight o'clock at March ninth against US. Well, you will see that could be a big game because game because the USC is supposed to be reloaded, right, that could set it like a top seed or one of the top seeds in the Packed twelve tournament and the West Right so fun schedule is always you know, kind of a you know, Farewell tour, Yeah right, yeah,
Farewell. No, it'll be fun, it'll be fun. They've got their exhibition games October twentieth October thirtieth are still to be determined. You can assume there's gonna be probably for Pack twelve Networks, you can assume there's gonna be seven thirty seven o'clock games something like yeah, maybe even eight o'clock. And then the regular season opener Morgan State seven point thirty at McHale. That's a Pack twelve Networks game. And then they go to Duke a few days
later, and oh, and then what Tommy brought up. They were supposed to play Southern University at Southern University's part of this HBCU series. Because there were going to be a Duke on Friday, they asked Southern if they would come here, paying them to come here. So that Southern University game is gonna be on Monday night, six o'clock game on Monday night. I'm packed Half Network's got a return game or was a return supposed to be? That
was a return game again. You know the Pac twelve. All the teams are playing in state school home and home. This was supposed to be the returning game to Southern University Arizona. They came to an agreement that since Arizona is going to be a duke, that they would come here the following Monday, and that's what they're going to do. So all right, man, Oh one quick thing. A lot of discussion about Cam Rising why he hasn't
played it. Everybody thought he should have been playing by now. The quarterback at at Utah. Apparently the knee injury was way worse than anybody had had discussed. He brought it up on a radio show today. He said, I really wasn't expecting to do this, but I just want to let everybody know I didn't just tear my ACL. I tore my meniscus, the MPFL and the MCL. It was a big surgery and it's not an easy comeback. I've been working my tailoff's Basically, he's saying that this was a because
remember it happened in the Rose Bowl. This is supposed to be a year long rehab and he's trying to get back. He's practicing some, but it was more of a way worse knee injury than had been speculated. I guess we'll say so camera. I was a little bummed last week when he needed to play, but U Tusco covered for me as mon only game that I covered last week been so bad. All right, that's it, that's our breaking news. We're gonna come back. Brian Jefferys is going to take his
down memory lane at USC. He's been going there for a long time as well. Every time the uf A has gone there, he's gone there. So we'll talk to Brian about this farewell tour for Arizona and about playing at
USC, maybe for the last time. Stick around. Now on the phone, we have Brian Jefferes, the voice of the Wildcats. How you doing, Brian, gentlemen, doing extremely well. Looking forward to a trip to Los Angeles, one of the last ones probably be making for a while. And you know, big game on Saturday. It always is not including the big game. Do you enjoy going to LA
for these things? Because Elie's no. I've told some people, you know, ever since the whole realignment started and the LA schools decided they were going to bolt, that I would not miss going to Los Angeles. I'll miss the games that are played there, but certainly trying to make your way around town. It's it always takes a lot longer to get anywhere, and so at that part I will not miss, but I will I'll miss going to the Rose Ball. I miss going to the Coliseum, Paly Pavilion, and
even to a very small extent, the Gameland Center. Well, you know, we were talking to Jay Dobbins earlier and he just said that there, you know, his experience as a player, there was just you know, being on the on you know, on the field, and the mystique of the coliseum, and I don't know. He didn't say he was in awe of it, but it meant something to him to be playing at the coliseum, you know from where we sit, you know, we go to press
boxes. Right. What's it been like for you? I mean you've been going there since the late eighties, so you know the trips over there. As you said, going to the game and doing the game. Do you get caught up in that at all? Well? I do, because you know, USC has been you know, without a doubt, probably the Hallmark program and PAC twelve and before that, the Pack ten and the Pack E. I mean, that's always been the team you want to beat more than
anybody. And I know Oregon's come on, and you know Stanford or Ron Washington, et cetera. But US he has always been kind of that team. And so it's special to go there. And as much as I want the Wildcats to win every time they go there, there's also something about the pageantry of being at the coliseum. And you know, between Traveler the horse and the marching band and everything that us he is known for, it's you know, it's you like to see those things. It's a great part of
college sports. Like I said, I would rather Arizona win the game, but getting to see those things is one of those experiences that will always take with me. So it's now I will tell you this guy is that again. Just this is a selfish viewpoint. The year I can't remember what it was when they had one of the big earthquakes in Los Angeles, they had to condemn the press box and they tore it down and put up a temporary facil and we were in a basically a phone booth to broadcast for a number
of years there. It was. It was probably the worst place you could you could broadcast at it because it was so small. Now when they've rebuilt it, now it's one of the nicest places to work at it. So look, I look forward to our final visit there and you know, having a good spot to be and hopefully it's good news for the Wildcats. For whatever reason, we've talked about this a lot the last couple of days. Arizona finds a way to play the Trojans very very well. They've done that
with bad teams, obviously with good teams. Any rhyme or reason do you think, Well, probably a lot of it has to do with the number of California Nadians that are on the Arizona roster. I mean, that's a lot better recruiting for the Wildcats. And you know they all you have to do look at the roster every year, this year included. It starts with Noah Fafida and you know tedor Ow McMillan. There's two guys right there from southern California that are you know, a big part of the Wildcats right now.
And there's a number of guys with California roots and I I think they're always excited to go back home and be at you know, the Coliseum or the Rose Bowl, and it seems to bring out the best of them.
I mean last year's winning at UCLA was a perfect example of that. And so I think they're gonna be those guys will be a little more amped up, I think for this game, and the other guys get excited just because again you're that tradition of USC football with an opportunity to beat them, and anytime that they're ranked, which they have been for quite a few years and they certainly are this year, that makes it even more special. You know, well, one of the guys that you know, the guy that sits
next to you in the booth. You know, Lamon loved another Southern California guy probably wanted to, you know, be recruited by USC, played at Arizona. Any other guys that stick out to you who you thought maybe it meant a little more to them than some of the other because there's been so many guys, But some of those guys that had to you know, you've seen a little more from them, you know, going for a game like that. Oh, you can go back through the years and find anytime there's
been a standout. I mean, I'll go back to I think Tom ton of Cliff back when Arizona was nineteen eighty one, when Arizona beat USC, when the Trojans were number one. He had an outstanding game at the Coliseum and overshadowed you know, Marcus Allen rushed for over two hundred yards in that game, but Arizona one, and you know ton of Cliff and Arizona's defense was certainly a big part of that. But yeah, you could go through the years and find guys all the time that have gone back there and had
big games. It takes more than one, and I think, you know that's the object now, everybody's got to play well in order to beat a good team in US. He is a good team this year. What do you like You've seen many teams obviously through the years. What do you like about this year's team? Well, I mean the upgrade and talent I think is something very noticeable. The size that they've added. I think the biggest thing that stands out right now is the improvement on defense just night and day
from you know what we've seen for a number of years. And that all goes to Johnny Nansen and his staff and they've been able to bring in some more talent and uh, and that's been good talent. And so that is one reason Arizona's you know, been in the games they've been in, they've won three and the two that they've lost, you know, they've had chances to win both of them. So that stands out to me. I just think there's a there's a little more how can I put it energy on this
year's team. Uh, just the way they fly around and I'm talking about both offensively and defensively. And they've they've got enough guys now that they can compete and they've we've seen it already. Can see with anybody. And you just mentioned how Arizona and USC it's always the games have always been close. There have been very few blowouts, and so I think that's one reason why, you know, Arizona's got a great chance to go in and win this
week because they've got enough talent to get it done. You were at the press conference today and Jed was asked about, you know, playing against these three guys that transferred from Arizona to USC. I got the impression that it wasn't all their decisions or all three of them, that there was some things going on that led those guys to go. You mentioned how, you know, some decisions were made by staff, decisions were made by the players,
decision were made by the program. What did you make of all of that? Well, I mean, come on, let's let's not hide it's three
letters. It's called NIL, right, And you know, when you've got a school like USC, with the alumni base that they have, there's some things there that I think and if you believe some of the stories with some of their star players and how much they benefited from NIL, I think that is a big reason right there, that you know, I remember, I think and I'm I'm not quoting him perfectly, and so I don't want to get in trouble, but I believe, I believe that the head coach at
the USA. I won't even mention his name because if I'm wrong, I don't want to directly connect this quote, but something to the effect of, you know, they saw Dorian Singer just bight them up last year at Arizona Stadium, and I thought I saw some reference to the USC coach saying we need to go out and get that guy, and they did, and so, you know, more power to them. And I think sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side. And you guys were talking earlier about
Singers numbers aren't nearly what they were at Arizona last year. Of course, last year he was on the field for almost every offensive snap. Ian Cowiing and McMillan and those three guys were the primary receivers. Well, now he's not a primary receiver. They've got how many they got eight or nine receivers They votate in and out there, and so he just doesn't have as many
opportunities, I think to make catches. So is he happy? I don't know, you'd have to ask him, but at least from an athletic viewpoint, he doesn't have near the numbers, and I don't think he will this year, just because of the other guys they have on the roster. We have to check what he's driving and how much those checks I guess, oh, yeah, just yeah, you never know. Yeah. So, Brian, you've done doing this a long time. You're about twenty seven years old.
I'm curious because we don't talk to you about this very often. You know, you've been to all the venues a number of times. What's your favorite place, well, outside of anything in Arizona. I don't. I can't tell you that I have a favorite one. Again, it's a it's selfish for me, and it's and it's a working condition. And so I can tell you the Coliseum is They've They've done a lot, They've rebuilt that press box. It's a great place to work out of. Washington has done
the same thing. Washington State has done the same thing. I can tell you that the Rose Bull is not very advantageous in terms of us trying to do our job. One thing. It's just you know, it's a huge stadium. You're a long ways away from the field. But this sounds crazy, but the windows are really strange at the press box there in terms of how they open, and we've had to go find a broom handle to keep
the windows open a couple of times when we've gone over there. And you know, you go to Utah and they you use somebody's office at rice Eco Stadium to call a game out if we have to move her the pictures of her kids out of the way to it's just I'm not kidding you. It's it's just really strange and so uh, you know, there's there's good and bad. But you know, when you go to a place where they give you a good, good spot to work out of, that means a lot
to you. Guys like me. Well you you would have gone to and I'm sure it's all different now, but you would have gone to Ohio State back in the early nineties right when they when they went there. Does the does the environment and the play you know, the place mean anything? Do or you just so busy, so focused on the job you got to do that that doesn't really you know, get into your brain. No, it
really does, because the environment means a lot. I I love it when the stadium is full, and I don't care if it's home or away because that environment, you know, that gets my juices flowing. We were at Stanford and you know, there were they claimed there were thirty eight thousand people. I think they were counting everybody on campus, but you know it was there was no environment, and that makes it it makes it tough. You don't like that, and I think we see it more in basketball than we
do in football. But yeah, I enjoy going to you know, I hope they have over sixty thousand there on Saturday night. And you're right when we went to Ohio State, Wisconsin, LSU, some of the places where it is jam packed for every game and the fans have such a great part of the success of those programs. You know, Yeah, you enjoy that. Maybe you will overlook if you don't have a great facility to work out, if you overlooked at just because of the environment that you get to be
in. So let me ask you this question. Don't laugh at me. You you must be getting love doing your job this year or the last three years. You get to hang around with Tommy Lloyd, just a dude, and it seems like Jeed Fish is one of those just a dude. Dudes, so you're not stressed for comments or whatever. They're both great guys. I'll tell you what. Now, throw Chip Hale in there as well. I get to do baseball. You couldn't ask for better coaches to deal with.
And I've dealt with some tough ones before. The previous football coach before Jed Fish here was very difficult to deal with. And but but Jed has been tremendous. I mean, I just can't say enough. We do a show on Monday nights, and he's there, He's ready to go, He's got a lot to say. And anytime I go to see him in his office doing interviews or whatever, he's got time. He's open, he's honest. And Tommy is the same way. And it's interesting that both guys are
your head coaches for the first time. And I hope that you know, they continue that their personality these I hope they don't change over the years. I think sometimes coaches, as they move along, they get a little jaded or whatever. And I hope these two guys continue to do what they've done, and that is being open and honest. And you know, because all
of us enjoy that. And I think they also understand how important it is from a marketing viewpoint, because you know, the fans want to love the coach, and so if you're out there as a coach and you're a positive, outspoken person like like Arizona has right now in more than just football and basketball, by the way, it draws fans. That's why the people want to, you know, support the team as along with the players. They want to believe in the coach. And the two guys that we're talking about
right now, Jed and Tommy are a big part of that. But like I said, Arizona's got a lot of really outstanding coaches right now, and I think that's one reason for the success across the board. Yeah, no questions, no question oky, Brian. Good get from sleep you head you're headed west. Yeah, have a great time. You know, carve your initials in a wall or or a desk or something over there. Leave something behind, right for all the times you've been there. Well, don't you
go down and dig up a piece of the turf. Yeah, yeah, something like that, you know, do do something, leave your mark there. All right, I have a few ideas. Okay, thanks great, Brian. Thanks about safe travel, say guys. My guess is he'll spend more time on the freeway getting there than actually the other game. It's yeah,
it's it's it's tough. I mean, you know, because you really can't stay anywhere close to there without paying like, you know, yeah, six hundred and seven hundred dollars a night, so you got to stay, you know, across town or wherever. It's it's a it's a it is a tough place to get you but once you're there, man, it's fun. All right, we'll be right back. We'll close it out. Give you give us a call. text me yesterday or emailed me or whatever. It was saying that we were talking about as we closed on the show, why we live in Tucson while we stay YadA YadA, And they said they've moved here in eighty six and have been here since. He's just one of those towns, right, you know, just kind of love Tucson. Well, you know, I mean if you want certain things like you you know, you want a beach, or you want a pro team, or you want, uh you know, something that a big city has that we don't. Okay, but no,
but you're just looking to not worry about going out at night. You're looking at you have enough nice things to do, uh well, nousing, affordability, all that stuff, you know, why not here? Well to your point, to the beach is four hours away? I think. Yeah. Then the protein if you have kids, such a protein such as they are, it is two hours away. Yeah, you were taking that away.
And those things are close enough for you and me, right, those things are close enough if you want to go to a Sun's game, Diamondbacks game, Cardinals game, whatever you know, you can and you don't have to go to all of them. You just just go once in a while when you want to do you know, yeah, no, So there's enough of that. Do we have our issues. Of course, we have our issues like everybody else. We don't have enough freeways, right, the freeways.
You know a lot of things, but those kinds of things. But does I mean, you know, you mentioned, you know, when you're telling me, you mentioned that I, you know, have always stayed here. I have been to enough other places and seen enough of other places to look at it and say, could I live here or not? And there wasn't any place that I found I would rather live than here, Like you know,
I could. I could have found myself living and say, you know North San Diego, you know, not in the middle of the city, but up in Carlsbad in those areas, have a job, have to sell blood, well exactly, And that's the thing, you know, I could have seen myself living there. I really like Denver, but you know, one time I went there. Okay, I landed at the Denver Airport and the sun was out and I had to get all the way across town, you know, to the other side of Denver, the city that I found
that I had to go to in my Tepe job. By the time I got there, it was a put of snow on the ground. Yeah, right, and then I and then then i'd ye know it was it was. It was. It was late offber, it was during it was during the two it was right after nine to eleven. It was during the two thousand and one World Series. I remember listening to the game, you know,
on I headed towards where I had to go. There was a snall on the ground by the time I got there, and I had to dig my car out the next day and the next and the next day, and then after that was probably it melted already. Yeah, that's how Denver is exact. No, no, no, this is this is fine. This is good. I love Seattle, but you know, traffic is too dark, too dark, too often. Uh, you know those kinds of things. So I don't know. Yeah, no, we get it. I
get it. I'm not sure why I brought it up by I just remember getting a text yesterday about the conversation. Yeah. Uh, anybody want to call please do five, two oh four, one, six, seventy four forty would like to hear from you. A lot of things going on. We're going to be very busy here with with transitioning with basketball pretty soon women's sports as well. I think we haven't really talked about ideas, situation. Did they haven't had their media day? Did they happen? It was on
Monday? That's what I thought, because I saw, I went. I think that she's she's not a whole lot of depth, right, ten and they got ten players, But that might be good for her it you know, yeah, I mean, because it seems that the issue one of her when the issues with their team has been keeping everybody, keeping everybody happy, and people not you know, not getting the ball enough. Well, okay, if there's only ten people, you know, you'd like to think that
there will be the bold. You know, there'd be enough to go around, enough to go around. And then if you're eight, eight or nine to ten, whatever, you know your spot, right, you know your spot, you know your role, and ten isn't too many. I mean, we've been talking about Tommy Lloyd's team, right, we think he's got ten guys that can play and and ten guys that will play and we'll see,
we'll see how it flushes out. But you know, uh, you know, when you're talking basketball, if you're running up and down the floor, ten guys is not too many. No, we got a car? Do you have a caller? Hi? Round? There aren't on the ball? Hey, what's going on? This is it? What's going on? Victor? Well, I gotta ask Jay and me and you have talked a little bit about it, Steve, what happens if things go wrong with Jed
and and uh, these guys go on to seven game losing. Ooh, So I was just before you using as the question I was gonna say, are we getting happy Vic or mad Vic? Never mind, I don't have to ask that question. Glass as fool because I'm scared. I mean that that schedule is brutal. It is for anybody, for anybody, it is brutal. And you know, look, anything's possible, right, you know, they can get by the end of the year and be so bad they can lose to Asu. I don't know that this year is even a year
where any you know, anything bad can happen. From the standpoint of your what your suggestion is they love you know, if they end up going you know, three and three and nine. You know, do they get rid of Jet Fish? I don't think so. But I think I'm not saying not get rid of Jet. He's doing a great job. I'm just saying and I and I once again, and I ask you both this question. Establishing a winning culture and changing the culture, right, you have to win
one of those Washington s the games sometimes soon. Yeah, It's it's hard. You know, it's hard to know because you feel like, you know, what, what little we know about the players in the program, it feels like the players are behind the coaches. You know, they love the coaching staff because they're playing hard for them. You know, we talked about, you know, the Washington game. You know, they were never going to win the game, but they never stopped playing either. No, that
that's for sure. But I'm telling you you gotta you know what, Jain, when I was with Domingas and I was doing the filming, and we were, you know, beating Lynnwood and and we had Kenny Brunner and Jason Thomas and Dayshawn and we played Oak Hill and we beat them, and that was the changing of the guard. Then Dominga's was the top national team, but until we beat Okill, it was still just the local southern California power. And you've got to beat what Washington, You've got to beat an FC
somewhere down the down the road to change that culture. Well, you can't keep having Facebook and and Steve Wright moral victories every Saturday. So let me ask you. You've been a fan for how long? Well half half full fan? Four years? How many? Sixty four years? Young? Okay, okay, So the culture's never really changed, has it? No? No, it has not. Well, good luck with that as you as you know, you know Spanish just as well as me. But that's why
you hired hired Jed. I mean, you know, we we had said earlier in the season, hey the size, and Brian Jeffery said, oh, they're they're bigger, they're stronger, they're faster. But nothing's changed. If we go for in eight victor Eurosports dude, and we tell you and I fight more than anybody. You're not even related to me. And I don't know why I do this, But other teams get better too, I
mean sometimes that just happens. Well and exactly, and you asked me my expectations a few weeks back, and I said, to be just like Washington State or Oregon State. That's not too much to ask, is it. No, No, it's not. No, it's not This year might be too much to ask. But but they're capable of being that. They've been that, They've been that for a while. Not all the time, but they've been that. We have to also understand who they are. Who they
are. You know, you may think you're something, but you're not. They're not. They're not in the top half of this division or this little conference. They're just not. You can wish it, you can want it, but but Victor, there's no way you know that. Yeah, I just like I said, I just want them to turn that corner and beat an FC and beat one of Washington State and U c l A and and I guess get that six seven wins. I need to get you off that ledge, man, to get your I have no idea how to do it.
Well, I'm telling you, man, I just I go to bed and say my prayers every night for how many fifty four years? Yeah? Well, well, let's remember they did get the U c l A win last year, so there's something there recent that that there's you can. They can hang their hat on for now. But you're right, they again, they need to win one of those games this year. Who knows it's gonna be. It's gonna be USC. Is u c l A good enough to beat them? Is it good enough to beat UCLA again? You know,
oregu State's gonna come in probably favored. Does beating them get you that feel good win? Or does it you go up to Colorado and win? You know, there's a bunch of games left for for us to figure out, you know what it's gonna be. But I I I don't know. I don't know how on the fans will react if they lose the rest of their
game. Well, victor, victor realistically, and I don't think they're gonna lose the rest of the games, Victor, even from you or from you mister, or what do you think they're gonna What do you think they're gonna go the rest of the way? I I have one upset and then I think they're gonna beat you. Well, they're not going to be favored in any games. Shoot, they'll be favorite against you. Yeah, I mean that take. I took that one out of the right. But it depends
on what Colorado does, they're going to be favored. I agree with him. Yeah, you might be right. It depends on what Colorado does, right if there if their death really becomes an issue. They started losing games. You know, they're only favored by four against A s U this week, which seems like a gimme. But uh, yeah, you're right. They might not be favorite in any games. They might be favorite against U c l A here because U c l A we don't know what they are
yet. So there's a couple. So I'm I'm I'm with Jay. I'm praying that they pull off some kind of miracle this weekend and then they beat U c l A Colorado and and maybe flip a coin with Washington State or or state. Yeah. Well, Victor go to Ldiberger, get a little nice vanilla shake and relax a little Wowburger with kalapaniels Man go get its. Victor is one of the more sensible guys I know, except when it comes to the cat. We're all sensible. No we're not. We are You're
right, we are not. I've dealt with you for thirty five years, maybe not as long as Victor fifty four, but oh my gosh. All right, okay, so you know, I don't see them moving the rest of the game. I think I think there's definitely two wins in there, and maybe it's probably a third somewhere. He has a point, he has a point that they may not be favored in every game anymore, game separationation. You're so that's not that's it's a daunte next stretch here, it really
is. No, I I hear it is a. It is a It is a tough stretch, and it's hard. It's hard to realize this team is better better. But what did it get you? Right? Well, it gets it gets you into the stadium thinking you have a chance to win. That's what you could never live without, hope. So that's what it gets you. To play this song because don't stop believing, because you've lost
your beliefs. And I'm all right, we'll be back tomorrow. We have some more special guests and greats and great and our fab five Friday picks. Oh god, we'll see you tomorrow.
